Reviews for Oscar Lodge
Review 1:No car parking facilities (other than on public highway). Public parking restrictions limited opportunity for team meeting
Review 2:Decent and clean room, plenty of space. Great reception by staff.
Review 3:We had an issue with warm water; the shower only kept warm water for about a minute... then, it was very cold (to be fair, the hostess mentioned that it was getting looked at the day we were leaving). Parking is a bit tricky (BEWARE of the Loading Zone area).
Review 4:Friendly hostess that made you feel welcome - very helpful and pleasant! Although the room itself is small, it was clean and comfy. I loved the shared spaces that invited guests to mingle.
Review 5:The towels had stains on it , and thry changed them after telling them
Review 6:Friendly enviroment and good customer service. I would not regret staying there again.
Review 7:WiFi does not extend to the rooms and 4G is poor in Northampton
Review 8:It is a new place, nicely renovated, clean, comfortable, friendly, ideal location. No frills, exactly what it says. In an historic building so rooms are correspondingly small. I would certainly go back.
Review 9:I had top floor room, no lifts and no assistance by staff to help with bags. room was cold and no heating on although breakfast was available only continental so no cooked breakfast. I arrived a little early and not allowed to check in and not offered to wait in their day lounge. room not cleaned properly
Review 10:The en suite nice
Review 11:Couldn't fault this place lovely and clean will definitely be returning. The staff were so lovely and polite and provided us with everything which we needed! I don't normally leave reviews but the staff were absolute stars! Thank you very much!! I had a birthday to remember :)
Review 12:The hot water in the shower was stopping every 30 seconds, which wasn't very pleasant.
Review 13:The room was spacious, clean and modern looking. The Wi-Fi was great! The distance from the town center is 15 min walking.
Review 14:Cheap as me and my sun were stuck in northampton with car problems. Wondered about it from outside but once went in the man at reception was cheerful and friendly and we were shown to a basic twin room which was comfortable and good value for the price we paid. It was clean and the tea making facilities as in most hotels. No issues with shower. We didn't have breakfast as we were leaving 7:30 which was when breakfast started.
Review 15:Poor service from receptionist. He didn't even know where parking facility is although the website stated that there is free parking nearby. I booked a place here because I am travelling by car and not from Northampton. The receptionist also disturbed my sleep when he had buzzed by intercom informing me that there is a visitor looking for me when I had not been expecting anyone which is most annoying! The toilet seat was broken. Poor service - no rubbish emptying from my room at all despite my prolonged stay in the place.
Review 16:Wooden floor
Review 17:Continental Breakfast is the only thing that lets Oscar lodge down, but plenty of places to have a Full English Breakfast within a 2 min walk from the Hotel .
Review 18:Oscar Lodge is very clean and up to date. Friendly staff and comfy bed. Clean decor throughout the building and bedding smelt lovely and clean. Room spotless and everything lovely and ready for my stay.
Review 19:Towel rail not heated. Stayed 3 nights, toiletries and teabags not refilled. Cup not cleaned or changed. Breakfast only £5 so not expecting much but it was v poor. Thursday and Friday nights fine but Saturday night demonstrated that they need much better sound proofing.
Review 20:New or newly refurbished this was spotless b&b. Garden and veranda access a lovely touch. Liked secure key fob entry into the b&b from the street. Staff v nice and friendly
Review 21:Wouldn't of booked breakfast for £5 if I'd know it was just continental , the room had loads of coffee for free so £5 for cereal and jam n bread bit steep. No other complaints
Review 22:Very impressed with how the place had been done up, everything looked new, good bed tv and bathroom. Got parked outside no problem. Young Man on reception very good
Review 23:The area is a bit rough - makes you nervous about leaving a nice car outside. However, some cracking restaurants nearby.
Review 24:Very well appointed and decorated room, especially the bathroom. A good bed, nice telly, and tea and coffee-making facilities. For the money, excellent accommodation.
Review 25:Although the room was generally clean there was rubbish left in the cupboard. The staff were really apologetic when I pointed it out, they just need to check rooms thoroughly before new guests.
Review 26:The hotel was a good cheap stop with reasonable taxi ride to Sixfield for the park and ride for Grand Prix. Pleasant enough room and nice man on reception desk.
Review 27:The staff were not very poliet. Parking close to the b&b is quite tricky, just have to find a space up a side street. I couldn't access the Wifi.
Review 28:The b&b is modern and nicely decorated. I liked the en suite bathroom, the shower was really nice. The communal balcony and garden was nice too, I was able to sit in the sunshine and we had our dinner out there too.
Review 29:Even if the hotel has been totaly refurbished, the quality of the material is very low. (shower for example) Only one towels, very small room, not easy to get water at the proper temperature. So to my point of view, I will an another hotel
Review 30:No hairdryer. Location was ideal for me working at the cricket ground but it was a bit out of the town centre and far from the train station - hence I only described value for money (I paid £55) as average.
Review 31:Very pleasant modern room, comfy bed, very nice bathroom, excellent shower
Review 32:Breakfast wasn't a cooked breakfast not worth the five pounds you pay and our room smelt of smoke and it was a strong smell too! parking is restricted time as is on a street
Review 33:Bed was comfy. Wasn't far from where I need to be
Review 34:The street is so noisy and there is no parking in the main street, you have to park at the side road, but it's not far away.
Review 35:Location is perfect, being near shops and restaurants.,
Review 36:No customer service at all,bed sheets never changed, had too ask for towels,no tea or coffee in room so had too ask for that all so,but they never refilled it after that so had too buy our own ,everything seemed too much trouble for them,my advise stay here as a last resort or if it's really cheap but dnt expect too much.
Review 37:Good location
Review 38:pity about the continental breakfast which we didn't book as we are working lads who would prefer a cooked one
Review 39:very comfortable and ideal location for our work
Review 40:There was a stain on the chair (paint or toothpaste? eeugh). Bathroom light over mirror didn't work and the plug stuck in the sink. No curtains - just blinds, and no lamp shades. The worst was the breakfast which for £5 meant get your own cereal (mini boxes of frosties or cornflakes) and make own (crummy) toast and cheap jam. My room was off the main lounge which felt weird but no traffic noise, at least. No character
Review 41:Shower was hot and apart from the chair things were quite clean.
Review 42:luggage cannot be stored, bin is not emptied, no towel provided, fingernail like object is found on the bed, pillow is moist, hot water suddenly stop while having a shower, staff is straight, unfriendly and impolite. Breakfast is for 5 pounds but no cooked items, cold items are very limited.
Review 43:Nothing really to report
Review 44:The skywindow! Staff are so friendly and got us the same room as the year before. Very near to town centre and a walk away from staion
Review 45:Welcomed on arrival, happy, smiling staff member. Close to several eateries and a couple of pubs and a convenience store, parked right outside. Clean and tidy.
Review 46:The bed-bugs. This is a real problem with all budget hotels, especially like this place where I think they are housing council emergency lodgings people, maybe from Somalia? There's no solution to this, so in a quick stay-over situation, better stay elsewhere, or just drive home. It's better to drive home 2 hours or crash in your car than stay in a place with bed-bugs.
Review 47:The rooms are well appointed and clean, pity about the bed-bugs. Oh, the wifi would have been useful if they had told me the key, which they didn't.
Review 48:The room was a little cold and there was only a small electric fan heater available. The sheets although very clean, had a slight smell of some type of curry.
Review 49:Clean & modern
Review 50:The wifi was bad. The parking on the street and is not available 24h, you can only park from 6pm to 8am.
Review 51:Good location and overall quality. Good restaurants nearby and the park is great for a walk. The hotel has a fresh and new look.
Review 52:Small things: would have liked light over bathroom mirror to be functional. Could not find radio option on TV/player. I did not mention these to staff at the time - I imagine they would have sorted if I had.
Review 53:Clean and comfortable hotel with well presented rooms and communal areas. Helpful staff. Convenient location. Did not have the breakfast but was offered fruit to take away.
Review 54:A BIT OF A LOTTERY, it would appear, if any staff are there. The Cleaner was probably the rudest i've ever had the misfortune to meet !
Review 55:Very Clean. The person , Saim, on reception was good.
Review 56:Parking and WIFI
Review 57:The check in and check out were easy and courteously handled. There was no issue with my friends in the town that we were visiting joining us to get ready.
Review 58:it is a wooden floor so it is quite noisy. i can hear if there are people outside the room and people coming up and down the stairs. the good thing tho is at night, there's not alot of activities outside so i had a nice quite sleep all night. the location is quite far from where I meant to go. I had to take a taxi to get to and from the hotel and my destination.
Review 59:the room is big enough and bright. it has good size television and the room and toilet is clean and tidy. had a good night.
Review 60:Hotel left locked and unattended during my arrival time - no message left on my voicemail or note on the door. Tel no. did not roll to a mobile. Waited in doorway for 25 mins. Accosted by beggars whilst waiting. Staff apologetic but a simple message would have saved worry. I was accordingly late for my appointment. Would not recommend. Lampshades dated and stained, bathmat looked grubby, complementary toiletries half used.
Review 61:Shower facilities
Review 62:No one at reception when i arrived to check in at 2:15 had to wait till after 4:30 for someone to arrive. Again no one around at breakfast, or check out time, I had to go looking for staff.
Review 63:Bed area was cramped, and not pleasant there was a skylight, to allow light in but no windows so stuffy with no clean air,,
Review 64:Was clean, Communial areas were very well kept, Bathroom was clean and funtional
Review 65:No towels on arrival, a TV had previously been ripped off the wall so a new one was sitting on a table but obstructed by the tea/coffe making facilities. Whilst the room and bathroom were clean, the bathroom smelt strongly of damp/drains
Review 66:The bed was comfortable and the en-suite bathroom was a good size, with an excellent, huge shower!
Review 67:The Staff was really unfriendly and even unavailable to explain any basin information about the city and transports. Quality/ Price really to high considering.
Review 68:I couldn't get the wifi in my room, it kept cutting out. Particularly when in bed.
Review 69:Staff were nice, breakfast was ok. Room and bathroom were nice and clean. Good for the kind of stay I was looking for.
Review 70:Nothing, everything was fine, service was good, the room was much better quality than I expected as the price was reasonable. The breakfast was continental and I enjoy a full english, but the breakfast room was nice and the food plentiful.
Review 71:Staff were polite, room was immaculate, breakfast was fine. We arrived early and were allowed to use the room as it was ready for us. As it wasn't busy we were given the opportunity to change rooms to the back of the house, but being from the city I didn't mind the noise of the traffic, it wasn't bad at all.
Review 72:Couldn't watch the footy, but then again it's rare for hotels to offer live sports
Review 73:Modern, and simple could look at the stars from my bed amazing.
Review 74:Noisy due to traffic. States there is parking but its limited to 1 hr except at night. Receptionist argued this point, ggggrrrrrrrr. No toilet roll 1 towel for 2 people and no hand towel
Review 75:Reasonably clean and comfy
Review 76:New Years eve,the one thing I needed was a hot relaxing shower, what did I get, a lukewarm dribble, not impressed but will make do, until the trip switch on the fuse board went and turned the water freezing cold, this happened twice. Before booking phone to make sure the problem has been sorted (I was in room 10)
Review 77:Very close proximity to the hospital where my husband was staying. Only 10 or so minutes walk. Everything was so clean and smelt fresh whatever time of day you entered the building. The staff were very friendly and amiable.
Review 78:Breakfast needs to state that it is continental only. Parking is on road but there is plenty, dependant of course on your time of arrival.
Review 79:Contemporary clean décor, lots of white and chrome, loved the auto corridor lights, so nice to see a private small hotel with up to date electrics and bathrooms into the town centre which was pleasent
Review 80:On street parking felt a bit insecure. Neighborhood lacks charm.
Review 81:Staff very friendly and actively striving to please. Much care and money has been invested to renovate this older property turning it into a nice three star experience. My room in the back was quiet, with a lovely sunrise view over school playgrounds and roof tops. On street parking was convenient enough. Pricing shows that desire to charge less but deliver more.
Review 82:Shower was Luke warm, room was pokey, bed was uncomfortable, guests in hotel was very noise all thru the nite, room as dusty, bedding was dirty, towel stank of B.O, I could go on but I've got limited words
Review 83:Getting out of there!!
Review 84:No control of heating. Room on the cold side. Room at front of building (room 7) on Wellingborough Road - road was noisy and blinds let in too much light when trying to sleep. Previous stay in room 4 which was an internal room - quiet with skylight so no streetlight etc to block out.
Review 85:Large modern room with separate shower/toilet. Tea & Coffee making facilities. Designated smoking area. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Free wifi which worked well.
Review 86:The water in the shower was not hot enough it was just lukewarm which to me is cold and the room was cold most of the time. One of the staff was rude and their service was just poor in all.
Review 87:The room was very clean. Good location, quite surrounding.
Review 88:The breakfast was poor for the price. Due to us working cooked breakfast would have helped out a lot
Review 89:Bed room and showering facilities were spot on. Staff were nice and helpful.
Review 90:The free public parking is on the busy main road if you can find a space. Breakfast is minimal. No hot water for the shower on the final morning. Not a lot of soundproofing between rooms. Strong cigarette smell in the room.
Review 91:Very newly refurbished. The one and only person on duty was very helpful.
Review 92:Room storage isn't adequate - no wardrobe as example Parking is restricted (street parking between times)
Review 93:New refurb, room comfortable, warm and clean (though shower smelt a bit) Secure entrance
Review 94:Attic ceiling of my room could take unwary forehead unawares. Google Maps misplaced postcode ref. Hotel is a mile up the road, and sign not immediately obvious till you know it.
Review 95:Friendly reception, very clean throughout, adequate room, good ensuite, free parking some way down local streets (when you can find a space). One hour park free outside hotel in daytime.
Review 96:Could have some more Clothes hanger which will help a bit.
Review 97:Very clean and look like new. Very comfortable. Very close to town center so easy access to any restaurant.
Review 98:No hot water. When fuse reset it came out scalding and tripped fuse again. Must have been known problem judging by other reviews. Room didn't smell fresh on 1st entry. Only one pillow, one towel. No decaf tea or coffee.
Review 99:Wi-fi worked in room.
Review 100:No tv in room - told was being fixed. Bathroom smelt stale and uncleaned. Only 2 flat pillows on bed for two people. Everyone needs two pillows that thin! Parking an issue. None on-site had to park down a back street. But for the price what do you expect - not gonna get the Ritz for this price.
Review 101:Location very good. Very modern inside. Nicely finished. Very cheap.
Review 102:NO HOT WATER. (probably because we did not think to ask for it!) But, was not asked when we intended to leave, so at 07.30 there was no one around to ask re the hot water!
Review 103:room size. cleanliness. accessibility. .
Review 104:The towel radiator was too near the shower door & I burnt myself as I came out the shower , plus the shower tray was slippery when wet . As I was using the shower hot water stopped , I had to ring reception & staff came .the fuse tripped so they sorted the problem , but happened again .
Review 105:The bed was comfy
Review 106:there wasn't a bath or fridge breakfast wasn't a lot for the cost
Review 107:location free parking close by large room nicely furnished lovely garden
Review 108:My room was facing the main road (room 7) and was a little noisy until about midnight. I stayed on a week night so may be louder at weekends.
Review 109:Security. Good fob access to main front door and excellent camera surveillance on all floors. Great for a single traveller.
Review 110:Very noisy from other residents banging doors, and also from traffic. Also on arrival, I was asked to go outside and get cash to pay rather than credit card because the machine wasn't working. I held my ground.... and suddenly the machine was working after all. Not impressed with that approach.
Review 111:Clean modern room
Review 112:I would not book the front rooms again, too much traffic noise, the rooms above should be carpeted and sound proofed we did not enjoy the arrival of a army troop at 3.0 am who obviously had had a good night out which went on till 4.0 am.
Review 113:general design of room and services, the lounge overlooking the garden was a nice idea.
Review 114:Was difficult to find, not even a taxi knew where it was. Lack of signs at the property
Review 115:the only male staff i met at the property was very helpful. The place was clean and comfortable. Good value for money
Review 116:I think a larger sign outside advertising the name would be beneficial. Present sign could easily be missed.
Review 117:Interior very modern, white, airy rooms with beautiful on-suite. No negatives at all. Adequate breakfast to start the day.
Review 118:The receptionist failed to offer instructions regarding keys, breakfast availability, facilities...or even a smile.
Review 119:The room was very modern and clean, excellent value.
Review 120:Trying to find the place was hard as it's not very visible. Needs a bigger sign, or I needed to look at google maps before my arrival.
Review 121:Location, easy parking, clean room, good free wifi, powerful shower, good value
Review 122:Breakfast was a little late for us and couldn't have a refund, so paid for this and it was a waste of money. Staff seem to disappear late on
Review 123:Very clean, there was a great pizza place opposite that would recommend. Friendly receptionist, 30 minutes from Silverstone
Review 124:We didn't appreciate the staffs rude demeanour. Having night staff skyping ladies late at night, right outside our room was more than inconvenient. He did move when i complained to him,but the "common" area seemed to be the staff,or family area with Arabic tv channel playing loudly at all hours . It was a strange experience. The free WiFi was in this common area only, and not in the room. Our ground floor room was poorly soundproofed, and the guests directly above were noisy. The free parking was only on street, where the staff struggled to direct me to. The road outside has a one hour maximum stay, with regular traffic wardens
Review 125:The room was very clean and comfortable, and the garden was lovely and accessible.
Review 126:A minor point but a shelf in the shower would have been useful for shower gel/ shampoo etc.
Review 127:Quality of finish in the room was excellent. Location for our requirements was perfect. Staff very helpful and polite.
Review 128:No wardrobe or hanging space in the otherwise excellent single room on the top floor.
Review 129:Recently refurbished: clean, smart and comfortable, with a good telly in the room. Convenient for Northants County Cricket Ground. Lots of good restaurants nearby, saving the need to wander into the centre of town after a day at the cricket.
Review 130:If you want a simple, clean place to stay its good. Did not eat there, had to leave early. The area wasn't very nice but easy access to centre of town. Had to park on main road which meant you had to move your car by 08.30 am.
Review 131:The fact that I have been charged twice for the price of a room, on the request of the staff I was asked to cancel a booking on booking .com and paid for the room in cash , I have later found out that I have been charged for the room twice .
Review 132:Excellent hotel , friendly personable staff and a comfortable nights rest had .
Review 133:My room is south-facing so gets very bright in the morning. No where to drop keys off when checking out, have to leave them in the room - would be nice to say goodbye!
Review 134:Very clean room and building. Its been recently refurbished, so everywhere is spotless. Host is very friendly. Its near a lot of places to eat, so a really good base. Will be using alot more often as I'm in Northampton for short-term work.
Review 135:The town is not great, but if you have to stay there on a budget this is the place to go.
Review 136:This isn't a great part of town, but Oscar Lodge is brand new, very clean and extremely comfortable. Incredible value for money too.
Review 137:The front desk staff were really rude to us, but the manager was excellent
Review 138:The price was fair and the location was food. It was close to all the shops
Review 139:NOTHING
Review 140:Everything. John the proprieter was very kind to collect us from the Indian Bengal restaurant we were having dinner before going to the lodge. I am 80 years age and was uncertain where the lodge was. I range him and he offered to collect us without prompting. I will stay again the next time I am in that vicinity. 10 out of ten in all areas. Thank you John.
