Reviews for Killiane Castle Country House & Farm

Review 1:- smallish TV - not being able to eat in the room - no coffee facilities in the room - price expensive for the room/venue

Review 2:- breakfast - friendly staff - comfy bed - nice shower - lovely view from the bedroom

Review 3:Loved being able to venture into the castle ruin. Our hosts Jack and Kathleen were delightful. Would definitely go back. It was very peaceful after spending the previous night in rowdy Dublin!

Review 4:No bad experiences.

Review 5:Comfort in the bedroom and lounge. Friendliness of Paul the owner. The breakfast - lots of choice and much of it home made. Delicious.

Review 6:Everything. The facilities were amazing. The staff was friendly and informative. The location and setting were phenomenal. Can't say enough about how much we loved this place and our time here.

Review 7:The lodging was built into the side of an old castle ruin. The pastoral setting was beautiful. The innkeepers were delightful and the food very enjoyable. Their recommendation for dinner sent us to a local restaurant/pub that we loved! thank you Jack and Kathleen!

Review 8:Everything was first class, the room was really lovely, the "common" area was super nice, the staff was wonderful, the golf course was a blast, there is an amazing castle you can climb, the food was super good, extra special. We loved the whole package, thank you for allowing us to visit such a beautiful place, and enjoy the gardens, chickens, farm walk, everything was perfect. I would go again in a heartbeat!! Sylvia and Thomas Efta

Review 9:Kiliane Castle Farm was one of the nicest places we stayed while touring Ireland. Our hosts were welcoming and attentive. The breakfast was delicious and don't forget to try the baked eggs! Our room in the main house was spacious and comfortable. The common areas were warm and inviting and our group of six spent time in the evenings having a nightcap in the living room which was filled with books and big overstuffed couches. There is a lovely garden, woodland walk and castle ruin to explore. The property also has a small orchard, cows, sheep and a horse. Charming in every way. Hope to go back again sometime in the future. Take your hosts advice about visiting nearby agricultural museum, lakeside castle with freely roaming peacocks and stunning gardens.

Review 10:Hot water for shower wasn't working in the morning, however we received a significant cut in the room rate and profuse apologies

Review 11:Lovely accommodation, great breakfast, nice room

Review 12:The rooms and the grounds were beautiful. There was a great view from the top of the castle tower and wonderful to have the freedom to just climb up there. The beds were comfortable with lush duvets. The breakfasts were amazing!

Review 13:We had cold showers most of our apartment stay. There were so many power switches in odd places that we had to ask for help several times. The power switch that let the shower function was in the kitchen, next to the stove. The power switch that allowed the stove to be used was on the other side of the kitchen. We got the impression that we were not welcome inside the dining room unless we reserved a table and were buying breakfast, so we stopped asking questions. Every time we went to the front door to ask questions, we were met by someone talking with us through a door that was only opened enough to converse, as if we were intruders needing to be kept from the other guests. Very cold.

Review 14:We liked the castle ruin and the apartment was quiet.

Review 15:Was inconvenienced by no coffee or tea facilities in our room Facilities down four huge flights stairs and no lift Tea facilities crammed into tiny corner on ground floor with huge beam near your head Breakfast needs to be avail at 7am as if going to ferry u will arrive just in time and will need to hurry cars go on first followed by trucks so u are required there earlier Having breakfast at 7.20 made all a rush and we got there last in car que All way along route B and Bs were advert early breakfast and this was for a reason Food great everything clean but owners could be more friendly

Review 16:I would prefer to have tea making facilities in the room but not a big problem.

Review 17:Very impressed. The room was large, clean stylish. It's main selling point is it's surroundings in the farm. A great walk. The breakfast was excellent.

Review 18:Price for staying at a quiet place is that there are no restaurants in walking distance.

Review 19:Long breakfast menue. Every thing we tried was delicious. Best were the homemeade scones and porrige (with whiskey). Nice and quiet place. Good tips from host for restaurants.

Review 20:We returned after a very enjoyable stay at the beginning of our holiday and looked forward to going back for another relaxing stay at the end of our holiday. We were not disappointed. The accommodation is excellent and the family who run it are very welcoming and hospitable. The breakfasts were the best we had during our holiday - great choice and the quality of the food is superb. We highly recommend this accommodation and would definitely return.

Review 21:Our only complaint is that there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room, we had to go downstairs for a cuppa.

Review 22:Tastefully old-fashioned, extremely comfortable and clean, fantastic location.

Review 23:It's a 4* B&B on a farm with lots of parking and some very old trees and gardens. Our room, with king size bed, was larger than most 4* hotel rooms. One of the best B&B we have ever stayed in.

Review 24:Excellent hosts, high quality accommodation, immaculate throughout, very good breakfast, beautiful and quiet location. Would highly recommend without hesitation.

Review 25:Wifi only in the guest lounge. Our room was in the courtyard and the room had a horrible dusky smell that made it hard to sleep. I would request a room in the main house next time.

Review 26:Beautiful spot, comfortable well appointed rooms.

Review 27:None!

Review 28:Perfect ambiance, clean, but above all such lovely welcoming atmosphere. The breakfast was delicious. The ability to enjoy a cup of tea in the sitting room at all hours is terrific. Highly recommended.

Review 29:The whole ambience of the property and the owners is just wonderful and feel just at ease. The castle with the house is just great to see and the gardens are lovely! For dinner we popped into town to Tesco's and bought cheeses, bread, pate, fruit and some vino and sat out on the lawn and had a wonderful meal in the afternoon sunset. Shared with an American Mother and Daughter and had a good laugh. Breakfast was great as well with their own produce. Just lovely stay and recommend it!

Review 30:Had to go downstairs to make hot drinks in the coffee room, which meant I could not make my wife an early morning cuppa

Review 31:Lovely old house. Super breakfast. Comfortable bed. Friendly welcome.

Review 32:Wifi- only available in lobby- however, it is a castle so you cannot expect it to work everywhere :)

Review 33:Loved every bit of it! Beautiful place. Very friendly staff. Cannot say enough on how fantastic it was

Review 34:The drinks in the self-service bar are more expensive than one might expect.

Review 35:Superb. Room 1 is a luxurious and peaceful nest in a splendid castle cum farmhouse. The owners and their team are delightful, the breakfast great. The self-service bar in the drawing room a joy. This is a very good find.

Review 36:Nothing

Review 37:Fab apartments. We were self catering so we did not have meals . The location was great very handy for sightseeing the facilities were brilliant the owners and employees were really friendly and helpful and my parents both really enjoyed the whole experience.

Review 38:Absolutely NOTHING

Review 39:Kathleen & Jack were just the best hosts. Our room & bed huge, comfortable & excellent bathroom. Breakfast was one of the best, especially Kathleen's scones, breakfast lasted us the whole day. Internet nice & fast. Coffee or tea & homemade biscuits available all day & open Bar with honour system. A true delight

Review 40:One of the adults had to have a double bed to himself. So the other adult had to share with the kids. Extra bedding was supplied (this was charged for!) but there was no inflatable mattress, camp bed or cushions offered. This meant that one of the kids slept on the floor. The situation was dealt with very badly by the hotel (specifically an elder lady) and we were made to feel that we were being a nuisance.

Review 41:The setting, the building and it's furniture.

Review 42:The whole ambience of the stay. The one-bedroomed apartment was first class and the bed awesome - what a good night's sleep we had, very comfortable. All facilities were there laid on in the flat down to cling film for wrapping lunches, baking foil to teatowels, coffee and tea making facilities. A home from home kitchen. Paul was an excellent host..Treated ourselves to breakfast in the house on one of the mornings - thoroughly recommended. Would have loved to stay in the house but unfortunately on this occasion for us it was fully booked. A lovely few days away.

Review 43:cramped tea/coffee area, less relaxed than anticipated regarding tea/coffee facilities and location. Would prefer tea/coffee in bedroom, there is ample space for this.

Review 44:the location and lack of traffic noise excellent breakfast local produce used, very healthy and varied menu.

Review 45:No tea making facilities in the room- you had to go downstairs. The lounge/ communal areas were a bit cramped- if you sat in there you had to join in with the general conversation. We'd had a long journey and wanted to unwind before going to our rooms, but there wasn't anywhere to go that all of us could sit together (5)

Review 46:The setting, the swallows, the bed.

Review 47:Not applicable

Review 48:Situated extremely conveniently for Rosslare, we loved the location of this B&B, the ambience and the whole relaxed and welcoming feel of the place. The ruined castle surrounding the farmhouse, filled with nesting house martins and swallows, was charming and unlike any other place we have stayed in. Our hosts were delightful, the accommodation comfortable and well appointed and the breakfast sumptuous. We cannot recommend this special place highly enough.

Review 49:Warm welcome after a long journey to a large well furbished room. The hostess Kathleen obviously loves sharing her home and every possible need is catered for. Helpful advice on eating locally and places of interest to visit. Linen and toiletries provided were of a high standard and breakfast was superb. We were sorry to be leaving after only one night and will recommend our friends choose this place to stay in Co. Wexford. A high spot of our holiday.

Review 50:The wifi was very weak reception. Didn't matter really as local venues covered our personal needs.

Review 51:Beautiful location. Excellent facilities for self catering break.would recommend this place for a quiet break.

Review 52:The beds where like floating on a fluffy cloud,my partner had been working in Amsterdam the past 4 weeks before we came to visit, living in a very basic appartment so tryin to get him out of bed was a job in its self

Review 53:The only things we didn't like was that there was no tea making facilities in the room, and there were three flights of stairs to lug two big suitcases.

Review 54:Beautiful place, loved it.

Review 55:My room was large and very well equiped with an excellent separate shower and bath. Bath robes, comfortable chair to sit in, desk and chair, excellent bed which also was very comfortable. Good hairdryer and plenty of sockets! Breakfast was delightful, homemade yoghurt, fresh scones, I suspect jam and marmalade also home made. Beautiful fresh rhubarb and ginger and muslei a lovely combination. Wide selection of hot dishes also available. Drawing Room (lounge) available for guests with an honesty bar (not used). Tea/Coffee making facilities available downstairs. Staying here was like staying with friends, relaxed, personal and well appointed for Wexford (do need a car) with everything I needed.

Review 56:We thought we were actually staying in a castle, as advertised. This B&B is actually adjacent to a castle which is beingrestored. Tiny tv.

Review 57:New room. Freshly painted but not smelly. Fairly close to town centerbut very hard to find the signs. Passed them twice before we had touse the gps.

Review 58:For 15 years, Kathleen and John have been perfecting their hospitality craft, and it shows. Beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean, Killiane nevertheless reflects the style the couple began back in the '60s and that has obviously worked so well for them since. By far, theirs was the most comfortable bed we enjoyed throughout our Irish trip and the most spectacular breakfast followed, with fantastic produce and specific local touches. Having got slightly lost on our way to Killiane, we asked a local dog walker for directions and were surprised to be told to enjoy our breakfast even then! The castle is a common feature in Ireland, as anyone who has travelled there will know. However it is unusual to have one attached to such a glorious manor house.

Review 59:This is in a lovely spot within easy driving distance of Wexford, where we had a wonderful dinner at the Yard. We had a beautiful room and a good breakfast all fresh from the farm.

Review 60:Self-catering apartment- Kitchen was well equipped (eg tea towels/ washing up liquid) Farm and castle are open to walk around and explore. Lovely and friendly staff.

Review 61:We booked a twin room and asked for no feather duvets/pillows. We were disappointed when Paul put us in a family room with one kingsize bed with a feather duvet and two single beds, particularly when we learned later that a proper twin room was available. The wi-fi was very spotty although Paul did his best to fix it.

Review 62:Hotel is lovely, staff were friendly and the breakfast was superb.

Review 63:Not an overly personal experience (there was one poor guy running all over doing everything)... most dinner suggestions were back in town but there was a good restaurant up the street (for some reason we were told to steer clear of it but it was actually really good!)

Review 64:Great scones with breakfast, amazingly comfortable bed, loved learning about the history of the castle (although you had to find the historical book yourself in the sitting room), opulent antique furniture to admire in the rooms and around the house

Review 65:The inn keepers were thoughtful and nice! There was a farm walk for the kids with farm animals, and the grounds were relaxing! The food was incredible!!

Review 66:Got a lovely reception on arrival. Freshly made scones with jam. Really enjoyed the farm walk. Excellent location. Stayed in apartment, perfect for small family. Very friendly and very helpful. Highly recommend

Review 67:Attractive property, good clean bedroom & bathroom & attentive service from the owner, who gave us a delicious early breakfast as requested. Very handy for the ferry port.

Review 68:absolutely nothing!

Review 69:The welcome was fantastic. Beautiful setting. Very convenient for Rosslare ferry. Excellent pubs near by. Lovely family. good safe parking

Review 70:Kathleen and her son Paul were extremely friendly and welcoming. They were open and trusting and not at all jaded considering all the guests they must meet. I hope Kathleen has a great time in Calgary. The food was excellent also... Just love the real serviettes and fresh linen. Well done and continued success.

Review 71:Our room was clean, bright, sunny and comfortable. The food was amazing. Everything direct from the farm - whether meat or vegetables - so a restricted evening dinner menu but absolutely delicious and the breakfast, one of the best I have ever eaten!

Review 72:Nothing at all.Everytning was great.

Review 73:The peaceful surroundings but very near to town. The castle to climb up whenever we wanted, The friendliness of the owners and their attention to detail.

Review 74:Not 1 thing!

Review 75:Built onto side of an old castle which you can have look around. Breakfast was all fresh off the farm, baked eggs with wexford cheese chorizo and mushrooms were amazing. Fresh baked scones and cookies aswel. Can't rate highly enough. Very quiet place which suited us anyway wud defs go back

Review 76:Amazing location, building and decor. Extremely welcoming and 'homely' feel, very friendly staff/owner. Local produce served for breakfast and entire estate very open for walks, visiting farm etc.

Review 77:Unfortunately we had an unfortunate experience with a smelly drain in the beautiful modern bathroom. The Lady of The Manor was horrified and did her best to rectify it with disinfectant. Improved things but...

Review 78:Breakfast and the friendliness of our host (Paul??). View outside. General style of the interior was lovely. The room and bathroom were big. Wexford was pretty terrible, we went in there quite early on a Saturday evening to find the most inhospitable and closed town. Fortunately, lack of parking change forced us to the Tides Inn in Rosslare - lovely, lovely place for a welcoming drink.

Review 79:Tennis court needs bit revamp. A swimming pool will be a cherry on the cake.

Review 80:Attention from the staff, telling you about the castle, taking time in showing you around. always smiling, & cheerful. Food, Absolute delish...,

Review 81:We had our own self catering apt. with all commodities. It is part of a very old castle. It is run by a hard working family. We watched the cows being milked. It was quiet and peaceful. Not far from Wexford and Waterford. Kathy is a great host with a wonderful family.

Review 82:Kathleen and her son were so welcoming. The room was lovely and spacious and well decorated. Wi-fi was only in the main area of the house but that was fine as I was so relaxed I nodded off as soon as my head hit the Pillow. The breakfasts were marvelous. I felt like a friend rather than just a guest. The walk about the farm was lovely in the springtime and it's location is ideal for exploring the area. Would stay again.

Review 83:That our stay was only one night. We would have liked to stay longer but we had prebooked places in other areas.

Review 84:We had a lovely stay at Killiane on October 4, 2014. The house was well appointed and beautifully decorated. Paul and his mother were so gracious and friendly. The grounds were lovely and we enjoyed seeing the animals-chickens, cows, ,sheep, and horses. Our room was on the 3rd floor and we had wonderful views of the distant water and lovely views of the farm. At night, there was a warm and cozy fire in the living room and other guests were sitting by it, relaxed and enjoying themselves. The dining room was very nice and the breakfast was superb. In our 4 trips to Ireland, my husband declared that it was the best Full Irish breakfast that he had ever had. The eggs were fresh off the place and the scones were homemade, as were the biscuits in the tea room. We would highly recommend a stay at Killiane Castle if you are in the Wexford area. Linda - Maine

Review 85:No downsides to this delightful property.

Review 86:Lovely pastoral setting-very unique property steeped in history well worth the short out of town drive. Helpful friendly owners. Went out of their way to drive us into town. Suggested a really excellent spot for dinner. I would absolutely stay there again. Excellent +++breakfast

Review 87:Our ferry to Wales was cancelled and we required accommodation at short notice. The proprietors of Killiane Castle took us in, made us feel welcome and special and calmed our frazzled nerves. The facilities are great, the coffee den and roaring fire in the lounge were most welcome and the opportunity to explore the grounds and a working farm was amazing. We will definitely stop off here again on our next trip.

Review 88:Thank you very much to the Mernagh family for our excellent stay at Killiane Castle. The family and staff are extremely welcoming and friendly. The rooms and house as a whole are extremely comfortable, relaxing and very well kept. The breakfast is fantastic. The location is secluded and beautiful, yet only a 5-10 minute drive from Wexford and 15 minutes from the beach. There is so much to do on site, you could spend a whole weekend at the Castle without leaving - pitch and putt, walking around the farm, relaxing in the grounds of the castle. All in all it is great value for money, the fact that the prices aren't extortionate also adds to the castle's charm. We definitely hope to return and would recommend anyone to stay here.

Review 89:Leaving. Could have stayed there forever.

Review 90:Everything. Location. The staff very friendly and helpful. Loved the old tower and the chance to explore it. Our room was large, clean and well decorated. Specifically cateted for our early departure to catch Ferry. There is nothing not to like

Review 91:We though we had booked a four star bed and breakfast and the apartment was in our opinion a 2 star. We went to inquire about a problem with the wifi and commented how beautiful the main building was and were told it was only for the guests staying in that area. Also did not receive a welcome basket as was advertised.

Review 92:Loved the location as it was out in the country and quiet. The remains of the old castle are very interesting

Review 93:Having to leave!

Review 94:The incredibly comfortable bed. The delicious breakfast. The farm walk - full of surprises. Playing croquet on the front lawn. Feeling like part of the family being allowed in the lounge and coffee making area. Kathleen's biscuits

Review 95:there was nothing that I didn't like about staying in this wonderful country house.

Review 96:This country house with ruin of a norman castle to the end of the main building is an excellent place to stay for families or as a couple, the staff are very friendly and helpful and the homemade breakfast is lovely with nice little touches that you wouldn't get in a hotel, the surrounding land with mature trees are stunning, I would definetly recommend this house as a great place to stay, 10/10 killinane country house, we will return for definite.

Review 97:Kathleen and the Mernagh family made us feel very welcome and it was such a pleasure to stay in their lovely castle/farmhouse accommodation full of atmosphere and glorious gardens

Review 98:I would have liked breakfast earlier than 8.30. No tea or coffee avail in room.

Review 99:Beautiful room with super furniture and fittings. Visitor's sitting room. Porrage with whiskey and cream.

Review 100:Wasn't aware of Killiane Castle until this summer, as I usually start my journey to the ferry from the midlands at 5am and have been doping so for many years. I will definitely return. Beautiful house, accommodation, and a tranquil night's sleep.

Review 101:Wifi was only availabl e downstairs but that wasn't a major issue.

Review 102:Our stay was fantastic. The property was beautiful, staff were welcoming, and food was delicious.

Review 103:Didn't like soap in bathroom

Review 104:The sophisticated style and luxury of the house, fabulous thick carpet hall and stairs, breakfast was scrumptious. The peacefulness and harmony with nature outside

Review 105:Access to the main building from the courtyard rooms - if weather was bad you'd get wet going to breakfast, also no key to get in, so had to ring the bell each time.

Review 106:Peace and quiet Comfortable beds Food - Excellent breakfast The atmospheric old building Country walks Farmyard animals Proximity to Rosslare Port Well signposted from main road

Review 107:Finding Killiane Castle was a bit difficult as our Garmin navigation device was no help and the sign on the main road is quite small. But once we called and learned to turn at the Drinagh Garden center we were fine.

Review 108:A lovely stay.... we were in the newer "Courtyard view" rooms and really were very comfortable and enjoyed walking around the historic property and also the delicious breakfast. They also have a great library with books on Irish Gardens, Castles, and local history.

Review 109:We arrived very late so it was a bit difficult to locate.

Review 110:Excellent Breakfast (pancakes and hot chocolate for children) Spent a lovely hour after breakfast around the grounds. A lovely experience for children.

Review 111:We liked the history of the place and the steady maintenance in respect of the old building and decoration. Comfortable and quit room. Location is in the country side a little outside Wexford and a working farm is still on going at building next to. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 112:Remember you are staying in a renovated castle...there are no elevators and several flights of stairs. Hot water was at times "iffy", especially when all guests are taking a shower at the same time. Leaving!

Review 113:Kathleen and her son, Paul, were very accommodating. Paul is an excellent host and very knowledgeable about the surrounding area. Breakfast was the best I have every had in a B&B. Anything you want, they will try to get. Beautiful décor. Definitely would stay there again!

Review 114:Nothing to criticise, but mind your head in the tea area!

Review 115:Loved the fabulous room - very comfortable and huge, with walk in wardrobe, large bathroom and big comfy bed. Breakfast was lovely- well cooked and very substantial; much of it made on the farm, including delicious bacon. Everyone welcoming and friendly.

Review 116:We were staying in an apartment out the back so the Wifi signal was poor but that didn't affect the quality of our stay.

Review 117:The owners are the nicest people to run a guest house. We had a great time and I would definitely return and recommend to friends

Review 118:Nothing at all. Perhaps a bit more information about local places to eat. I guess most clients stay for one night and probably arrive in the early evening, and need a recommendation or two about where to go close by for a meal.

Review 119:We stayed at Killiane for one night having arrived at Rosslare and prior to travelling to the west of Ireland. It was an ideal stopping point and I wish we could have stayed longer. The room was beautifully furnished in the old style, was comfortable and very clean. Breakfast was good, and the owner, Jack, and his wife, and Paul, who served us breakfast, made us very welcome. Bathroom facilities were perfectly adequate. The grounds were well worth exploring, especially the tower of the castle, which I guess would leave health and safety officials in London apoplectic! We had a bit of a chuckle at the "tennis court" - Wimbledon it ain't! The place had a lot of character and we would have no hesitation in returning or recommending.
