Reviews for The Convent
Review 1:Arriving from the direction of Westport, we were relieved to see a large sign indicating the guesthouse! After parking the car we were warmly welcomed by John, who asked us about our requirements for breakfast the next morning, took us to our room and invited us to come into the sitting room for a cup of tea. The sitting room was very comfy with a wonderful log fire, and with a generous supply of excellent tea on hand, we soon relaxed to the point of unintentionally dozing off! Our twin room had the promised lake view (impressive!) plus a functional shower room. The TV and Wifi worked well and there was a tea tray on a shelf in the wardrobe. In the evening we went into the village and had a wonderful seafood meal at The Blackberry Restaurant, which is owned by the same family who own The Convent. We had already had a sneak preview of the delightful home made apple pies cooling in The Convent's kitchen, and we were not disappointed. We had an excellent night's sleep, and woke ready for breakfast! The Convent closed as such in the late 1970s and whilst the internal decor has been somewhat upgraded and refreshed, it has lost none (nun?) of its charm. The floors, windows and furnishings are a delight, and besides the lounge, there is a pleasant sunroom and an amazing breakfast room where Jesus, Mary and Joseph in stained glass supervise a generous and varied breakfast sourced from local ingredients. Although you specify whether you'd like an Irish breakfast, you can still help yourself to the 'continental' .... local cheese, locally smoked salmon, yogurts, cereal, toast and fruit. Good tea and coffee accompany this and everyone was served quickly and efficiently by John. If you want good quality coupled with excellent, genuine, professional hospitality, we can throughly recommend The Convent, and we hope that John and his family go from strength to strength for many years to come.

Review 12:Nothing. Everything was satisfactory. Town is nice but a bit dead, not the fault of the owners obviously though! Shower was a bit weak and lukewarm.

Review 15:Stayed for 7 nights with a friend. The Convent is at the head of Killary Loch, surrounded by mountains, many of which we walked. Sean was an excellent host. The Blackberry Cafe, managed by Shane(Sean's son) is only a 5 min. walk away for excellent evening meals. All in all a perfect set-up, hope to visit again.

Review 17:Mary, Sean and Shane are lovely hosts and cater for your every need. Very friendly and welcoming. The view of The Killary from the room is amazing, so serene and calming. The breakfast is absolutely beautiful with homemade fresh bread. The comfiest bed we've slept in. Just a 2 minute walk away from Leenaun to Gaynors for the best pint of guiness. Stayed here twice now and we will be staying again.

Review 22:What a pleasure it was to stay here from the incredibly warm welcome from Shane and offers of cups of tea(my husband had just done the 2k killart fjord swim!) to the traditional room in a wonderful quirky building. Next morning we were treated to a fantastic full Irish with offers of fruit salad, juices and cereal. The owner Sean is an extremely likable and friendly man and we had great chats after breakfast(which incidentally is held in the old convent church, stained glass window and all). A very traditional b and b which i will definitely stay in again for next years swim!
Review 23:Sean was a very attentive host and provided a good breakfast in the Chapel. The Convent was in easy walking distance of a couple of eateries in the small township. The rooms were comfortable although a bit small.
Review 24:Some noise from the road and the spotlight outside lit up the room until it was turned off (presumably after the last traveller arrived).
Review 25:We arrived later than expected, but Sean welcomed us with tea, accompanied by smoked salmon on soda bread. Great breakfast, as well, in the former chapel with beautiful stained glass. Easy walk to center of leenane.

Review 32:Location, cost and friendliness of the owner. On the cleanliness side the room was good, as was the house, but Sean the owner needs to spruce up a wee bit. Such a busy man, he needs a clean shirt everyday.

Review 36:The Convent is in an amazing location. The views of the Kilary are so stunning. Leenane has so much to offer with so much beauty all around. The breakfast was lovely and the hospitality was warm and friendly. Thank you Sean for everything.
Review 37:As with all the b&b's we encountered in the British Isles, the tiny showers are problematic. A shower that is only 28" square means you hit the cold walls a lot when showering. Please make them larger when you renovate.
Review 38:I liked the history of the place, with it being a former convent. The upstairs view of the fjord across the street was wonderful and the owner answered all my questions about the former residents. I am familiar with Tiffanys stained glass work and the three paintings were equal. You need to see them.
