Reviews for Plough Hotel

Review 1:The room was extremely cold and took ages to warm up once the heating was on. There had been smoking in the room prior to our arrival. The staff did try to neutralise it with spray though

Review 2:The location is good for the town centre and is very easy to find

Review 3:We had a large room, with a double and two single beds for the kids. It was quiet and there was no road noise. The beds were clean and comfortable. The bathroom was fine. there were plenty of clean towels. Breakfast was fine. Not a place for a holiday but it was just right for what we needed.

Review 4:Lack of light fittings in the bedroom, bulb that was there was tiny, broken light in bathroom, no full length mirror, very dirty shower curtain, little moving around space in bedroom, hotel generally too cold, canteen feeling to breakfast in the bar, only instant coffee first morning, high sugar high fat breakfast, waiting for breakfast to be cooked.

Review 5:Central location, which we wanted. Generally friendly and helpful staff.

Review 6:The room I was in could do with updating, the curtains were old and dated and starting to fall down, the shower curtain needs replacing and to be fair the whole bathroom could do with replacing but for one night it wasn't going to kill me plus it was cheap for the location!

Review 7:The plough was close to an event we were attending on New Year's Eve this was my second year in a row staying, the staff are very very nice and the bed was comfy

Review 8:I liked the efficiency of the staff, and how helpful they were. The rooms were basic, but comfortable, and the breakfast room was clean and welcoming.

Review 9:At £67 for a room this is well over priced £20 would be more realistic paint peeling off the walls mould in shower overall need a good clean and a coat of paint

Review 10:Well placed to Northampton city centre

Review 11:Understaffed. Layout of hotel is maze like; location of room would have caused problems for elderly/less able persons due to stairs (up & down), multiple levels, and general layout. Decor tired and worn, very basic furnishing.

Review 12:Comfy bed, coffee/tea making facility, good breakfast, clean shared bathroom.

Review 13:The hotel was not clean and old. Taps didn't work properly, no bathroom in the rooms. The toilet didn't have a sink. Old dirty carpets. TV was small, my laptop screen was bigger. I was waiting at the reception for at least 10minutes before I started to look for the staff to get my room key.

Review 14:The location was good.

Review 15:filthiest hotel I have ever stayed. Complete rip off. Pathetic customer service. There were no proper heating in the room and it was so cold. So dint not slept whole night. When I asked about this issue receptionist told only certain hours heaters will be on. Appalled by his rude answer how can even sleep in the cold room.

Review 16:Nothing at all

Review 17:carpet in the hall and stairs needs replacing or cleaned.

Review 18:The only one good thing about this hotel was that it was close to the town centre. It was dirty in clean just aw full I would never stay there again. And we paid £65 pound to stay the night I would of rather stayed in my car.

Review 19:Staff on bar could be more cheerful The basic room smelt smokey/fusty Wi fi not available in your room only the bar

Review 20:Staff on reception kind and polite and very helpful Breakfast was excellent

Review 21:Booked 2 rooms, double room number 30 top floor, noisy, shower waste blocked. Twin room first floor number 4, bathroom filthy dirty also noisey.hotel in need of refurb .

Review 22:Breakfast ok,

Review 23:Did not get to stay. Tried to cancel and they would not refundpayment. Totally unhelpful. I would recommend everyone to keep clearof this hotel

Review 24:Nothing. Very unhelpful

Review 25:We arrived around 4-0pm to find the bedroom freezing. It seemed the heating didn't come on to around 6-0pm. The young lady found us a heater, but as there were no plugs at ground level, it had to be balanced on the dressing table shelf. There was only three bulbs in the room, one of which was out. Even though with it replaced the light was poor. The TV seemed to be restricted to BBC 1, but it kept going off and showing No signal. The breakfast seemed to be the cheapest bacon etc.

Review 26:no food after 8.30. no room service or comforts of a hotel. dirty/run-down looking. V noisy during night with drunk people in corridors.

Review 27:staff & location

Review 28:Not a bad experience, just being picky - no Wifi in my room. Facilities in need of a refurbishment; dirty sink unit and a broken pane of glass in the window. Old style window that probably wasn't secure when I shut it. Shared facilities, in need of investment.

Review 29:Very close to the town centre, where I wanted to be to attend a concert and visit a real ale pub I've been meaning to get to for years. The room was quiet, which I value highly for my beauty sleep (ahem!). My room was comfortably warm.

Review 30:Generally unclean and very old and tatty. Even the rooms that had been redecorated where dirty. Some rooms had black mould around the windows and the tiles in the bathrooms were cracked and mouldy. So much so we left without washing! My parents borrowed an iron from reception which had wires exposed from the base of the flex. When they plugged it in it blew a fuse and the electric in their room went off.

Review 31:Not much to like, the only positive was we were only there for one night and hardly in our room!

Review 32:With a lick of paint , a good scrub and small refurbishment this place could be ideal central hotel and make a lot more money. It's a good place to stay on a budget that's about it really.

Review 33:Value for Money due to central location, wifi in lobby/bar area was good, having breakfast included was also buffet with limited selection however still good enough to get the morning going.

Review 34:We were alllocated a downstairs room in an outside block, perfectly good accommodation, which was fine for the first night. Unfortunately, on Saturday night the hotel's function room had a Greek wedding party, scheduled to go on until 2am! This extended outside, with people chatting and laughing right near our windows (not double-glazed) with doors open and the music was extremely loud. We asked about the possibility of moving and we were located a different room away from the noise, at about 10pm, which was a relief. No-one seemed to have considered in advance that anyone not attending the wedding would find this situation very uncomfortable. We did receive a verbal apology when we finally got to see the manager.

Review 35:Very central, enabling us to visit cinema, parks etc.easily. Good self-service breakfast. Easy and free to park. Comfortable, spacious family room.

Review 36:It was an awful place to stay, I would never ever stay there again. The floor was soaking wet, it was very untidy. The shower was freezing cold an when we walked in our room it's smelt like someone has poo'd in there. I'd never stay there again. Also the tele didn't work, we told a member of Staff about the facility and he didn't even look or bother to move us room. I'm in two minds to get my money back!

Review 37:I thought the bar area could do with a brush between close and breakfast.

Review 38:The beds were very comfortable. The staff were kind and friendly. The breakfast was fine. There is wifi, pool table, tv in the bar. I liked the history that the hotel used to be the place where horses were changed over long ago. There were plenty of bathrooms.

Review 39:The owner was very welcoming and plesent.we had children with us who were excited that we had come away he didn't bother about them making noise.

Review 40:We didn't like the fact that Social Services placed people in the hotel. The noise from the room was bad and the stench from the dirty nappies was disgusting. We had to move rooms.

Review 41:Its location to our venue is excellent and the town centre.

Review 42:The shower in the shared bathroom didn't work properly, yet was able to use an alternative one down the corridor. The pillows were too thin not comfortable and the room could have done with another coat of paint.

Review 43:It's location was convenient, friendly staff and affordable price. Also the breakfast was good

Review 44:the breakfast, does not have a wide range of hot food and wifi only in the lobby, the toilet did not have an strong light, therefore every time i was going to the toilet i could not see anything, it was like no light at all.

Review 45:Is close to the centre and the bed are comfortable

Review 46:We have the pushchair, luggages and handluggages and we were going up n down often to bring things up or down cause there is no lift and we were on the 2nd floor :(

Review 47:The staff was very friendly and helpfull

Review 48:TV was very small considering the size of the room and distance from the bed

Review 49:We stayed here over night whilst attending the Silverstone Moto GP, so was ideal location - walking distance from the bus station and town, and free parking

Review 50:Not informed breakfast time had changed, continental breakfast was not a continental just cereal & toast despite slight disappointment we will be using hotel again.

Review 51:Easy to find, good parking, clean rooms , friendly staff

Review 52:Breakfast tasted disgusting- we took 1 bite and left it, shower curtain was mouldy. The room generally was a state. The shower goes hot and cold when your in there. I wish I hadn't wasted my money

Review 53:Nothing

Review 54:Wifi only in the bar area. A poorly designed building, easy to get lost trying to find the room.

Review 55:Excellent hot breakfast. Nearby "Iceland" supermarket has good prices. Allowed to checked in an hour early.

Review 56:The Hotel is very tired and could be cleaner although the beds & towels were clean. The breakfast was very oily, not cooked very well and left on hot plates to dry out and cool down, not at all appertising. The staff did not engage with us at all.

Review 57:The location was good with car parking very close to town

Review 58:Hotel requires a complete refurbishment . The outside is O.K. Inside is a different matter. Everything requires a major overhall.

Review 59:The location is good as the hotel is 5 mins from the city centre

Review 60:Check out time was ridiculous no wifi in the bedrooms Staff were poor. the breakfast was very poor and basically it was utterly depressing and over priced

Review 61:Very little

Review 62:Cleanliness- room was ok but stairs and corridors were discussing. This is the first impression you get of the hotel and it's not a good one!

Review 63:Convienience

Review 64:The hotel is shabby and very run down. While the room and bedding was very clean, the rest of the place needed a good scrub. Holes in bathroom walls and a damp smell in some hallways.

Review 65:the location of the hotel is ideal for eating out and exploring northampton and was great for driving to Sixfields for park and ride to silverstone. Staff pleasant

Review 66:The room was shabby and run down, there was a club just over the road blasting dubstep out into the small hours of the morning and the check out is 10.30am (a bit early but, as it turned out, that was fine as I didn't want to spend any longer there!)

Review 67:Not much

Review 68:The breakfast was ok freshness of it was a lot to be desired as it was not overly busy

Review 69:The evening staff were excellent nothing wad to much trouble for her

Review 70:the shower not working, the stairs to steep could do with decorating thro out the photo,s in the viewing are no were near the like my room the noise was vibrating the the room never again will i go there again

Review 71:On May 24th the guy serving as like a young Basil Fawlty !! Completely lacking in customer service, poor manners, rude, unprofessional and dirty....I almost started clearing tables as he was completely uncaring about new guests comin down to eat breakfast.....everyone was commenting on his terrible attitude....quite frankly if this was my hotel and he was my employee he would be out on his ear !!!

Review 72:Reception staff

Review 73:Shabby and dirty reception, communal hall ways/stairs and bedroom. I had booked a single room but was given a family room where there was no room to walk around…one bed up against a window with approx. 6inches in between another bed. The socket for the kettle was on the floor so when making a cup of tea the kettle had to be placed on the floor but only after some furniture was moved. The bed was bumpy – very uncomfortable. The noise from the road and car park was unbelievable – I had asked for a quiet room! I had very little sleep. The bathroom was very dirty! Breakfast was non-existent – at 7.45am my only choice was a hard fried egg and toast. No juice but there was milk to make a cup of tea. The staff were so busy chatting they neglected to look after their guests – it was only after I was leaving the staff decided to replenish the breakfast bar…5 mins before end of service! Why didn’t I walk out on my arrival? I should have done but I was tired after travelling on public transport all day plus I didn’t know where else to go! With no internet access in my room I was unable to source another hotel. This ‘hotel’ has the potential to be a better establishment but it needs time and money spent on it. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Review 74:Nothing I'm afraid.

Review 75:Low quality cooked breakfast Some condiments not replenished the following day Inconsistent availability of some breakfast items Some dining tables left un-cleared Flickering LED lights above dining tables Faulty light bulbs in room Mould in shower No bathroom clothes hooks Difficulty with washbasin plug Poor standard décor in room

Review 76:Location Parking

Review 77:There was nothing i did not like about my stay

Review 78:I had stayed at this hotel the year before and previously was upset by the noise and poor cleaniness of the room. However on my second visit i was presently surprised, even though it is above a pub i did not hear too much noise and the room was clean. Plus the hotel is in an excellent location, it is close to a large supermarket, town centre and the train station.

Review 79:The carpet was badly stained and the room exceptionally hot with no way of turning the radiator down. We couldn't open the windows as being on a main road, there was constant traffic throughout the night, with lorries turning into the factory across the road all night.

Review 80:All the staff were very friendly and helpful, very accommodating of my vegan diet which has caused problems in larger hotels.

Review 81:the room was really run down. Mould on the walls, tiles missing in bathroom, light not working in bathroom, no toilet brush, and the room was cold.

Review 82:free wifi

Review 83:Dirty rooms, Dirty old bathrooms, Squeaky floors and the place isfalling apart and worst of all I had no more than 3 consecutive hours ofsleep, I would only ever come back if couldn't sleep in the car!!!

Review 84:Free breakfast

Review 85:Bathroom was full of damp mouldy walls, everything was dirty, tv didn't work properly, the worst stay anywhere. Breakfast 6.30-8.30 only. please contact me, I have taken photo's, really this was bad!!

Review 86:NOTHING

Review 87:The room was on the top floor overlooking the Carlsburg transport depot, which would have been ok if the double glazed window had fitted correctly to the rubber seal so it was just like having the window open all night listening to the traffic and drunks going home, The main door to the room fitted verry good to the saround but unfortunatly the sloped down and left a gap of 2 inches tappering off too half a inch making the light from the corridoor light the room up all night, other than that the room was ok.

Review 88:The staff were very pleasent

Review 89:noisy water pipes that kept me awake for 3 nights. Thick dust on shelves which storing my clothes in cleaned it. I could write my name in dust around the bath. If I walked on wrong floorboard, tv stopped working. Tv cable stretched across corner of room. V noisy loud music from bar. Shower ice cold or scalding. Bath no enamel so scratched my back trying to lie down in it. Breakfast was poor, hardened eggs etc. breakfast staff in crumpled dirty looking clothes with bad attitude. Kettle cable in room too short meaning had to put cup & kettle on floor to be able to make cup of tea. Need I really go on

Review 90:reception staff helpful. On complaining they did change my room, which was more functional & clean. But still the water pipes noise went off approx every 3mins, again keeping me awake

Review 91:Nothing really. Did what it said on the tin. Good value excellent really.

Review 92:Not the place for a romantic weekend but after a Christmas do on the town was excellent place to crash. Car park available. Central location. Served it's purpose very well.

Review 93:My room directly off the car park - the door was very difficult to open & close. The room had an over powering smell of cigarettes and had not been aired.

Review 94:Location

Review 95:The shower was poor. Wasn't an electric shower. Off the taps and the shower head didn't sit right on the rail

Review 96:Bed very comfy.. Nice lady on reception upgraded us to a family room for the same price as a twin room

Review 97:Windows didn't close properly, drafty and cold. en-suite was detailed when I booked, was called shortly after to be told that the room had shared facilities Too late to find a suitable alternative. Facilities weren't clean, probably due to no visible policy about cleaning up after yourself, cobwebs with dust which must be at least two months old (booking late November) 10.30 check out. £55. Never ever again!

Review 98:Lovely receptionist, waited for me as I was a late arrival

Review 99:Strange smell in hotel Smell of cooking fat lingering in the hallways Damp in the bedroom Bedroom door been kicked in and badly repaired Shared bathrooms not very clean

Review 100:Great location to town centre

Review 101:Rain came through the ceiling, this was obviously not the first time it had happened as we had noticed the damp patch up on arrival. Headboard was not fixed to the bed so it wobbled around when turned over.

Review 102:Location was great, close to town but not right in the action. Bedding and Towel's good quality and clean, bathroom was nice looked to be fairly. Tea and coffee facilities in the room were plentiful. Plenty of draws and wardrobe space with hangers. Breakfast was the usual buffet quality and was replenished often. I would recommend this hotel if you just needed somewhere to sleep when visiting but not to expect too much

Review 103:Was disappointed with the state of the shared bathroom and the flickering lights in the breakfast room gave us a headache. Cooked breakfast didn't have hash browns.

Review 104:Really liked the location of the hotel.

Review 105:Single bed but probably my fault. Shared bathroom! different levels A bit drafty.

Review 106:Breakfast was good Staff very helpful and polite Parking good Clean

Review 107:hotel had major problems while we were there boiler packed up sunday am had no hot water for the rest of our stay our ceiling started leaking water sunday night ,were compensated a small amount but as had to pay bill on arrival we felt leaves you vunerable if there are issues

Review 108:location and parking

Review 109:No cooked breakfast available until after 8am on a Saturday, although there was toast, tea, cereal, coffee & juice available.

Review 110:Nice staff 2 minute walk from the King Billy!

Review 111:Room was on corner of building overlooking busy crossroads. Traffic noise felt like sleeping in middle of road, even though windows were double glazed. Breakfast was limited in hot food. Room had what looked like smoke damage on ceiling; Bathroom had cracked tiles all around bath.

Review 112:Location was right where we needed for the party we were attending

Review 113:Not at all worth the money you are paying. Shared bathroom. Light didn't work in toilet and door didn't lock properly in shower. Also required to leave your room key with reception before leaving the building which is completely unheard of to me. Would not stay here again.

Review 114:The staff was quite friendly and helpful. It was also only a 3 minute walk into the town centre which was very convenient.

Review 115:The whole service was bad including noise at night

Review 116:Nothing as the room was a tad dirty and stain on the white sheet and the English breakfast was hard to eat , bad quality of service :/

Review 117:My single room was horrible: main door if from outside, windows are on top of room, there is cold inside and walls are so thin, that I can hear everything, moreover there is smell of cats urine in room, humid as well, toilet is horrible. I felt myself like in basement. This is not a hotel, but motel.

Review 118:Breakfast and location is allright

Review 119:Staff service was poor .., lady on the reception were bit rood to me ..Istayed alon in this hotel ...room was horrible .., to much noice bangingthe door and all ...planty of young guys were talking and singing overthe floor .., In front my room ..back fire door was open ..so manypeaple coming through that fire door ....as per policy of so many hotelif single lady staying in hotel ..hotel should give quite room and awayfrom mens room ...but they gave me room ..planty of guys were stayednext to my room ...they were talking , singing , banging the door ... Ifell very unsafe in my room ...than I called to reception ...I told herall situation but lady doesn't want to change my room ...she nothelpful at all ..she said you need to pay more ... It was really bedexpireance for me ..

Review 120:Close to town centre

Review 121:Decore could do with an update in places Lots of long coridors , can be confusing

Review 122:Good self service full english breakfast Night porter for early hours return All the little extras in the room : coffee, soap ,shampoo etc

Review 123:I was put in a room where its was old mixed furiture and blanket on bed not duvet and not decorated to to the standard of the other room as advsied on website room was very hot could to open widows to let air come in was noisey due to main road outside by junction all this should have been mention either on websibe site or when i arrived which it wasn't room was just thrown together

Review 124:Very freindly staff, location good for the town and shops

Review 125:the drinking and noise outside my window, people from the bar was outside, a little noisey but not bad.

Review 126:polite and helpful staff, the lady moved me instantly as my roof leaked with the rain. hope you get that sorted too. but again excellent people skills.

Review 127:shabby décor. bathroom tiles cracked and loo seat yellowed. weather really hot and no fan or air-con so windows open and so traffic noise significant all night. breakfast reasonable quality. had to go elsewhere for food in evening as not serving food when we were there.

Review 128:lovely staff, nice bar area, music stopped about midnight on Friday, clean enough.

Review 129:It was a hot weekend and we had to have the windows open and the noise outside was very bad as we where at the front and on a busy junction.

Review 130:The rooms where clean and comfortable, breakfast was very good and refreshed when needed.

Review 131:lack of hooks and surfaces to put things on in bathrooms

Review 132:instant responses from friendly staff to help me with anything from directions to topping up supplies

Review 133:The fact I got told to take breakfast cutlery from used tables which were dirty. The breakfast was in short supply. Shared toilets is something I do not wish to do again. Walls lined with paper and paint is in much need of fresh decoration as they were badly marked and dirty. Stair case is in need of a good clean also.

Review 134:Not much, it did have good car parking facilities

Review 135:Room to hot, no air con but a simple electric fan would have made a whole lot of differance, we may then have got some rest, opened windows but then had lots of noise from traffic and party goers until 3am, also was a very strange smell about the place, think the whole place needs a re- furb.

Review 136:Only saw two members of staff, the gentleman that booked us in and a lady that was serving in the bar, both were polite and courteous, although the lady did seem somewhat unkempt.

Review 137:Rudeness of staff No staff manning the bar at night, had to ask receptionist. Paid extra for 'superior' room and shower didn't work, freezing cold. Staff very rude about this and said nothing could be done. £75 extremely overpriced for very average hotel

Review 138:£10 upgrade charge was refunded, Size of the room.

Review 139:With the windows open at night the nouse from the road is practically deafening! I would not recommend this hotel in summer... As there is no air con you have no choice but to open the windows to reduce the heat... which will result in a restless night slee as a result of the noise!

Review 140:The hotel is very central to town and relatively good value

Review 141:Room door squealed. Smell of smoke in room. Doors banging from c0430. Duvet inadequate. Pillows inadequate. Breakfast 0600 - 0830, not catering for tourists, with little choice of average quality. TV failed completely on second evening. Reported this, no action taken. Manager seemed disinterested when questioned. I did not stay the third night I had booked.

Review 142:It's a convenient location for my purpose, research at Npton Library, and visiting family at Duston.

Review 143:A little to exspensive for what you get. When booked in had to change rooms as it wasn't cleaned from the last person that stayed.

Review 144:The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely.
