Reviews for The Abbey Hotel

Review 1:Parking not easy, no evening meal or breakfast. I believe this was because the hotel had not expected to be open at this time. However there were places nearby to get food from

Review 2:Room was nice, lovely view, nicely decorated. Staff extremely friendly

Review 3:Pleased to find such a lovely hotel that is pet friendly. Staff very nice, excellent breakfast, good bar and atmosphere in the evening, very comfortable.

Review 4:There was s cat in the building in morning which run upstairs to bedrooms. The bar area seating could do with being renewed. No car park

Review 5:In town centre and close to all facilities.

Review 6:No concerns at all

Review 7:The staff were all extremely helpful & Nothing was ever too much trouble.. The atmosphere was warm & friendly Breakfast was excellent

Review 8:Our radiator didn't seem to work as it was slightly warm at the bottom, and cold at the top so probably just needs bleeding. There seemed to be a bit of confusion over our tab. As we were told by a barman that they would put our drinks and food on our room (which we thought meant we would pay off on departure). However the next day when we tried to add some more drinks to the tab another barman told us off in front of the rest of the bar for not paying off our tab the night before. It was then explained that only people who book over the phone and not online can have a room tab. I think they should be a bit clearer with how tabs can be set up to avoid guests being embarrassed.

Review 9:The Abbey Hotel was extremely welcoming from the moment we stepped in. The owner and his wife and daughter were very friendly and chatty and were attentive. The room was beautifully decorated and everything felt fresh and new. The bar was cosy and the open fire was perfect after a soggy walk around the Abbey. We brought our dachshund with us to stay and he was welcomed by all the staff even when he became his usual vocal self!

Review 10:The location is fantastic, and when I walked into the hotel I felt welcome and well treated from the start. Everything about the hotel was what I was hoping for from looking at it on the website in the first place.

Review 11:Having the owner's cat in the dining room scavenging off tables, and trying to jump on our table as we ate breakfast, and a dog walking through the dining room into the kitchen was not cool! Things seem to be half done. One room and bathroom was really luxurious, but had no tv. The other of our rooms was fairly basic, stifling hot, but had a tv.

Review 12:Our two bedrooms were comfortable and the bathroom in one room was lovely. Staff were very accommodating but they seemed to be working under absent-minded management. I hope the business does well in the future.

Review 13:Amazing location, lovely room, enormous bed, friendly staff, the ELF music event was on which was really good. It's a little eccentric, but for a hotel above a put it's very good.

Review 14:No tv in room, no meals available on a Monday, breakfast at 8.30 so anyone at work cannot have a breakfast. No hairdryer in room no ironing facilities.

Review 15:rooms were clean, staff friendly

Review 16:No wifi in bedroom No reception area so need to shout over patrons around the bar with private information No Communication between owner and her bar staff she would disappear off for ages and leave them without the right information for hotel guests Did i say no wifi?? Sadly the owner didn't have time to engage with the issue the wifi didn't work. In short... Lovely staff (the guy at breakfast especially) let down by the management.

Review 17:The beds, decor and bathroom and the staff tried their best with what they had...

Review 18:Rooms did not have TV. Also no meals available Sunday to Wednesday, although it's marketed as a hotel with restaurant. Had to eat out every evening. Breakfast served after 0830 hrs. Some evenings the bar wasn't even opened. We found out during visit that myself and work colleague were only persons in the hotel althrough the night, nobody from establishment on the premises. So very expensive for basically a room and no facilities. Really annoyed.

Review 19:Rooms were clean.

Review 20:Breakfast, not available til 0830, was a stark contrast to the nice room. White dry toast, had run out of butter/marg, tinned tomato, no juice, tiny cereal serving - dreadful. 1 poor hassled member of staff - he'd been caught in traffic. Owners just sat and left him to it.

Review 21:Lovely, newly renovated, clean room above pub/restaurant . Bathroom fab with bath/shower and lots of hot water. Cafetière for proper coffee in room was a nice touch.

Review 22:We were accomadated ang made to feel very welcome. Even though it had new mamagement and undergoing refurbishment the day we arrived. A very well done is deserved to Jo and Derick. And we will deffinatly be staying with you again.XX

Review 23:The Manager lied to us about a refund.

Review 24:A good breakfast.

Review 25:No parking onsite

Review 26:Room was cosy & quiet part of the hotel.

Review 27:A great improvement following the refurbishment works

Review 28:The bedroom picture was very mis-leading and there was no shower.

Review 29:One room did not have a TV.

Review 30:Friendly staff and nice rooms

Review 31:No hairdryer in room although didn't get round to asking for one. Breakfast service was a little haphazard

Review 32:Rooms were decorated beautifully

Review 33:the staff were excellent - very cosy but clean place and we plan to return.

Review 34:A very good welcoming atmosphere. A quirky bar and good food.

Review 35:Location was perfect, staff very helpful and NO television in the room!

Review 36:No TV in room

Review 37:Location was great. Staff were lovely

Review 38:Room very small and no bath. General cleanliness was not good and breakfast was quite poor. Coffee vile.

Review 39:Centre of town

Review 40:Small hotel very close other room

Review 41:Very good area and good fireplace in the pub

Review 42:The staff were great helping us early entry due to attending a wedding couldn't be more helpful

Review 43:Offered free wifi but no wifi code anywhere to be found and staff didnt know either.

Review 44:Breakfast was very good! Very helpful staff that let us drop our bags off prior to our check in time! Thank you!

Review 45:Lack of parking, but free parking was located in the gravel lot by the flower shop on the high street.

Review 46:Great location right near the Abbey in the quaint town of Battle. Simple accommodations but everything you need. DELICIOUS English Breakfast!!!!

Review 47:Parking can be a squeeze if hotel is full, but we managed to get a space ...

Review 48:Good family room with TV and coffee / tea provided, room was clean with good sized bathroom. Nice location on high street but quieter garden and river round the back. Good base for exploring local countryside and area. We enjoyed the breakfast on offer and excellent evening meal / beer. Friendly welcome and will definitely consider returning.

Review 49:The first room that we were given had a mattress on the bed which should be sent to the dump. I could feel the metal top of every spring with my hand; it was dreadful and totally unacceptable by anyone's standards. We were at first told that the hotel was fully booked when we expressed our rejection of the accommodations but then were offered a room with two single beds which we took. They were fine. I realise that this is an old building but it needs a thorough clean and upgrade.

Review 50:The location was fine but that was all.

Review 51:As we both have walking difficulties, we had hoped to have a room on one level (after climbing the initial 15 steps to the first floor) but we were given room 4, with further stairs down to the bedroom. It was the barmaids fault, as the Landlord was out, He apologized later but was fully booked.

Review 52:comfortable bed, excellent breakfast, pleasant bar

Review 53:The shower needed attention to tiling - this is mot just cometic, but affects cleanliness. I could not open the windows - rm.3 - and it was a hot day. The garden could be made more pleasant for evening use as there isn't room for everyone to sit at the front. It was very noisy - both from pub and street.

Review 54:The staff were pleasant and obliging. The location is very good.Parking is adaquate ie for as long as the parking agreement is in place

Review 55:Way over priced for the room size. Showers and bath very poor condition and morning breakfast staff very rude. Couldn't have 'friend eggs as we don't have a pan big enough' ! Would not pay any more than £40 per night here.

Review 56:Opposite the Abbey, lovely bar and restaurant area

Review 57:I had a dirty cup in the room when I checked in. There was mold and damp in the bathroom with a noisy extractor fan. Television cables were hanging loose down the wall. The kettle lid was broken. Over all the room was shabby and in my opinion not worth the price charged.

Review 58:No parking, poor soundproofing in rooms meant it was very noisy. Bed was uncomfortable, fan in bathroom didn't work, lack of tv channels and generally run down.

Review 59:Friendly staff and a good breakfast.

Review 60:No parking - though the arrangements we made ourselves were fine.

Review 61:Lovely staff, lovely atmosphere, great food, great service, great beer. Excellent location in Battle

Review 62:We really liked the welcome. The staff were really helpful and cheerful. The room was fine, though it did get very warm when we both showered, I don't think the extractor was working. The bar area was lovely as was the restaurant and the breakfast was excellent.

Review 63:There was nothing we didn't like. Inconvenience more than anything that parking was limited outside however other options exist. Decor does need facelift but DID NOT detract from comfort, good food, cleanliness of accommodation and overall positive experience.

Review 64:Warm welcome on arrival. Great food and varied menu. Brill breakfast. Clean comfy room. Nice shower. Good size quiet room. Central location. Price very reasonable. Everything worked as it should: tv, kettle, shower. Would stay again if in the locality.

Review 65:The room, although clean, was very run down and scruffy with a huge crack in the bath, which I didn't fancy using.

Review 66:The staff were friendly and the breakfast was lovely with plenty of everything.

Review 67:Bed was a bit hard and the room itself was a bit tired, but that wasn't nearly pronounced enough to either spoil my stay or cause me to complain. It was good value for money.

Review 68:Staff were brilliant, very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast in the morning was generous, filling and good quality.

Review 69:Booked four poster bedroom so small kept hitting head on sloping bedroom walls and also in the bathroom, as well as doorway between bedroom and bathroom. Central heating not working just an electric heater.

Review 70:Bed very comfortable and breakfast excellent. Staff very nice.

Review 71:Front of hotel rooms are very noisy, creaky stairs, pub below and traffic at 5am onwards. Bathroom fittings not screwed to wall. Toilet roll on the floor. Breakfast sausage and bacon was very dry. Cooked earlier and kept warmish. Only the egg and tomato was freshly cooked. Coffee warm and poor.

Review 72:The location is very good.

Review 73:At B'fast had to ask for tea and coffee and even cups and knives forks spoons. 2 tables we sat at were different heights and orange jug up ended when put on unseen ridge - waitress saiid it was always a problem!! B'fast itself had odd taste so wondered if all was fresh produce? Shower did not work well and was grubby. Some of keys struggled in locks. We stay in loys of B and B's and for £70we expect MUCH higher standards across the boards. I would say our average score would be 8 out of 10 - Abbey would barely score 3

Review 74:Front door is a bit sticky. No parking but pay&display is only a few minutes away (overnight parking is free till 9am).

Review 75:Very polite and helpful staff. Great breakfast. :)

Review 76:my room was supposed to have a shower, which was a attachment to the taps. low pressure, lukewarm water, no shower curtain and nowhere on the wall to fix the shower head meant that the shower was terrible, tried running bath but water ran out so slowly by the time there was enough water in bath it was too cold to get in.

Review 77:staff v friendly, helpful

Review 78:Room looked dated and dirty Bathroom ceiling had a lot a mould over it and tile grouting in shower was very dirty.

Review 79:Breakfast was good value Lady owner very friendly Bed sheets were clean

Review 80:Not able to book a taxi the following morning at Breakfast time... I needed to get away at 7.30 but the night staff did not offer to book the taxi the night before but informed me to organise it in the morning.

Review 81:Bar staff kindly stayed late to accommodate the late arrival of my train.

Review 82:family room was booked for 3 but the third bed was an extremely old z-bed. In the end my daughter slept on the floor. There was tea and coffee in the room but the cups were dirty. and the bathroom and bedroom could have been cleaner.

Review 83:The staff were extremely helpful.

Review 84:First room had no shower, although there was an attachment for the tap which didn't work as the water pressure was too low, second room had a shower but also had a lot of mould. Fine for a night but anything longer maybe not.

Review 85:Good if you were a tourist in the area, wifi connection was good, rooms where a decent size.

Review 86:The hotel is NOT clean. The vent in the bathroom was not working, so it was not pleasant to use the bathroom with 3 people in the room. The shower drain was clogged and the shower basin was filled with water. The food in the pub/restaurant is rather greasy (frying pan seems to be main kitchen equipment).

Review 87:The Abbey Inn (as it is written on the building) is at an ideal location if you want to visit the site of the battle of Hastings in 1066. We had room 3 for 3 people. The beds were large enough and rather comfortable.

Review 88:Of the 2 rooms we booked, one was unclean, and beyond shabby, to the point where the wardrobe was falling off the hinges. The bathroom door didnt close at all, due to what looked like blown wood. The bath was filthy, and the shower attachment off the taps was pointless! There was mould on the ceiling in both bathrooms as well. The double bed felt like it was due to fall apart anytime soon!

Review 89:The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 90:Very noisy, thin walls. My parents stayed in a room at the front of the pub and it was unbearably loud, hot and run down. Don't have the coffee at breakfast it is terrible. Would not stay again.

Review 91:I stayed in the renovated rooms at the back of the hotel which were clean and quieter, though still heard lots of banging and shouting. Location opposite Battle Abbey big plus and close to the coast. Firm bed. Breakfast was ok.

Review 92:Nothing to dislike.

Review 93:Staff all friendly and very helpfull, make you feel very welcome, evening meals and breakfast very good. Nice clean spacious and quite rooms. Nice place to stay and very non expensive.

Review 94:No parking. Looking a little tired.

Review 95:We stayed during battle festival this was fun. Location was perfect for our needs. Breakfast was good. Staff were real friendly and helpful. Pub beneath was pleasant for a drink.

Review 96:No parking. Steep stairs to take suitcases upstairs. No SkyTV. Room hada view of roofs. Very small shower and bathroom with nowhere to housetoiletries. Noisy creaking floorboards. One young waitress at breakfastwas very surly!

Review 97:Nice friendly people behind the bar. Quaint pub.

Review 98:Decor rather "tired", in need of freshening up. Heating unreliable while we were there, they were fixing it at the time.

Review 99:Location, friendly staff and very good food.

Review 100:Being asked to pay the bill when I had alreay paid when checking in.Being given the wrong room key - to a room that was occupied. Decor of bedroom and bathroom rather tired - needs updating.

Review 101:Convenient for Hastings reasonable cooked breakfast

Review 102:The en suite was very dated. Only one bedside lamp, and the kettle was broken. Although the room was clean, it felt slightly shabby.

Review 103:Position in High St. Despite being on main road, our room was quiet. The price was good for the room, so maybe I should have not expected too high a standard decor wise. The staff were friendly. Good breakfast.

Review 104:awful smell of bleach while we were eating breakfast. awful wire coat hangers in the wardrobe - & not enough dreadfully hard matress. shelf in bathroom meant not enough room to clean teeth comfortably. no parking no proper shower - only a rubber hose attachment on bath taps. the towels were small

Review 105:breakfast food the bath water was at least hot! room had tea/coffee making facilities

Review 106:The staff were very accommodating and friendly. Has a lovely family feel.

Review 107:Decor dated, very creaky bed and floor. Could do with room refurb

Review 108:Staff were friendly, breakfast was good

Review 109:Every thing, we had a great time, will come back soon.

Review 110:We booked a room with a four poster bed and got a bed with four posts !!

Review 111:Breakfast was excellent

Review 112:Street parking

Review 113:Spacious, clean room, nice food in restaurant. Friendly staff. Amazing view across the street to the Battle Abbey..

Review 114:Nice welcoming on arrival, had a lovely room would stay. There again

Review 115:car parking was a problem

Review 116:food was very good, the menu was a little limited.

Review 117:No car park Parking outside on a first come first served basis

Review 118:Friendly staff Very clean room and comfy bed

Review 119:Shower pressure was non existent

Review 120:Staff were friendly

Review 121:couldn't be closer to the lovely abbey. Helpful , friendly staff .Breakfast great .

Review 122:everything was good

Review 123:Clean Good Breakfast good location the right prive great value for money

Review 124:Shame as it could be a lovely place, shabby and needing a good refurbish.

Review 125:The bar maid! Breakfast was good too.
