Reviews for Caldera Romantica

Review 1:Three months before our stay we asked for one room with double bed and one with two single beds, but on our arrival we were told that there's no rooms with single beds for the first night. In the bathroom there's only one glass wall dividing the shower which does'n prevent water from splitting all over the place. One of us had a birthday during our stay at Caldera Romantica. I asked the girl at the reception if the hotel offered anything in that case. She told me that we could get a bottle of wine or fruit, but she didn't tell me that there's a charge for it. In the evening we received a bottle of wine and on our last evening we received a bill for it (30 euro) which was a bit of surprise. I supposed it would be a compliment from the hotel and the receptionist didn't tell me that it won't be free.

Review 2:There are different opinions about this hotel - good and bad - about the cleanness and situation (the most important points for us). Our overall impression is very good. We first choose it for the whole stay in Santorini but where afraid that it would be difficult to get anywhere on the island from there so we decided to stay in Fira for two nights and than move to Caldera Romantica. It's a long walk to the hotel from the centre of Akrotiri if you are with a luggage, but a car from the hotel picked us up. Than we rented quads and the remoteness of the place wasn't an issue anymore. If you are without a car/quad/motobike you'll have to walk about 2 km to the bus stop. We liked the calmness of this place and the view on caldera. Actually, you can see almost the whole island from there. The design of the lobby and rooms is very simple yet attractive. The rooms are clean, the beds, bed linen and towels are good and clean. It's very pleasant to have breakfast outside. The choice is quite good, the pastry is very tasty. We only didn't like coffee - watery and not strong at all. The restaurant didn't work for lunch and dinner as it was the end of the season but there's a restaurant just next to the hotel and another one further down the road to the lighthouse - both are good with tasty food and reasonable prices.

Review 3:No real bad experiences. Everything we wanted was available even though it was he end of the season on the island

Review 4:Staff were so helpful. We stayed at the end of the season as we were attending a wedding yet everyone was so nice and smiley and helpful!

Review 5:Just the water from the shower goes out but is the same in all Greece so in all the other places was almost similar.

Review 6:The restaurant you may try it in Santorini! Specially mushroom are just the best. The hotel is nice, friendly, far of the center for relax and nice sunset

Review 7:Not a bad experience, but it would be lovely to make a cup of tea or coffee in the room....can you provide the ''kit''?

Review 8:Peaceful and friendly

Review 9:We loved everything! Location was fantastic (quiet but lots of great beaches around), food was great with lots of selection of restaurants but most importantly, great room and the staff was top notch, ever so helpful and friendly. Thank you and hope to see you again next year!

Review 10:The hotel is located in a very quiet village Akrotiri. The staff where helpful & friendly. One may need a car or quadbike to travel around the village itself and even if one may need to visit other places around Santorini.

Review 11:There are no facilities at all nearby and walking on the road can be dangerous: a mean of transport is absolutely necessary. Price seems pretty high compared to other accomodations in Santorini.

Review 12:The view is nice. The restaurant is very good

Review 13:No kettle in the room.

Review 14:We arrived late at night. We found a free large bottle of water waiting for us in the room. Pool is very big. Near old town of akritori and you may easily visit the south from here but y need own car or bike. View of caldera from breakfast room is really nice. A few meters down the road there is the good heart restaurant and it is also on the way to the light house . Excellent stay after staying 2 days in fira. Room also had a good fridge and airconditioner and very clean and modern.

Review 15:Wi-Fi tends to be slow and lose connection often.

Review 16:We just visited Caldera Romantica with my girlfriend and we really liked it. The staff is super friendly and helpful - they came to pick us up from the bus stop with their own car. The location is private so you don't have to deal with overcrowding unlike much of Santorini. You have a great view on the caldera from the opposite side of Oia. All that and more for a reasonable price.

Review 17:Poor room; did not get thé renovated rooms as in pictures. Internet was always on and off. Thé bus to transport us to thé hotel never showed up. Thé fan in thé bathroom made an awful noise that despite telling them twice, it was never fixed.

Review 18:Thé receptionist (giordana) was always ready to help and tried her best to resolve any problems. The hôtel had an exceptional view of thé caldera

Review 19:Awful soundproofing: you could hear almost every noise and sound from nearby rooms.Bathroom very small (you could hardly wipe yourself dry with the towel after shower) plus the automatic ventilation (that goes off once bathroom light is on) was too noisy too.

Review 20:Breath taking view to the caldera and the sunset (from the balcony). Clean, spacious room with minimal decoration.

Review 21:Noisy minibar fridge.

Review 22:Stunning location (if you choose rooms with caldera view). Nice swimming pool and rooms. Staff very helpful, take care of car rental and got us the best price. Very nice restaurant with caldera view.

Review 23:We reserved a room with caldera view so we were expecting a balcony facing the Caldera. Nevertheless the room was in the lateral of the building so we had a small view to the Caldera and a small view to the pool. They could have been more specific in the room description so that we wouldn't have been disappointed when arriving there. Further when we arrive the tips and indications about the island given were ok but we later heard another member of the staff giving some indication to new guests that were much more precise and helpful.

Review 24:The place is renovated and clean. The staff was helpful. The location is not in one of the main cities but it is easily accessible if you have a car/ATV/ scooter and you are able to be more relaxed than if you decide to stay in one of the main cities. The pool is very good too and the staff is helpful. Also the restaurant is excellent! From far the best meal I had during my one week stay in Greece!

Review 25:My only suggestion would be to ensure you get a car/bike to travel around in as the hotel is a wee way from shops, beach etc. you can walk to a couple of other resturants from there though. Hotel staff were able to get us a car within 20mins :)

Review 26:Extremely friendly and helpful staff. The pool was brilliant and the bed was really comfortable.

Review 27:This hotel is beautiful, not only is the view great the staff are so friendly and helpful. The restaurant makes amazing food and I felt everything was great value for money. It it's located on a quieter side of the island and would recommend renting a 4wheeler or a car. The hotel wil help you organise anything

Review 28:The bed was amazingly comfortable. The wifi is a bit hit and miss but that might be a problem of the island not the hotel. The staff were friendly and treated you like family! We loved staying there and would highly recommend. We hired a car and I would also suggest this as the hotel is in quite a private location.

Review 29:Wifi was unreliable in the room

Review 30:Staff were amazing - they did everything possible to help us out from arranging our room for very early check-in to organising an ATV to drive.

Review 31:The breakfast was very disappointing and the only poor thing about our visit. The choice was very limited. No fresh orange and only tinned peaches. Bread but no toast. No menu for extras e.g. omelettes BUT if you asked you could have at extra cost. As a result, we didn't eat in the restaurant at night until the last night AND that turned out to be an exceptional meal!!!! The menu for the A la Carte restaurant was also not clearly visible or advertised. The hotel wasted opportunities here to promote itself.

Review 32:The views of the caldera were amazing. Lovely quiet spot, car essential to maximise holiday enjoyment and excursions to Fira etc… Good local restaurants in Akrotiri.

Review 33:Hotel is aged and dirty. Staff is rude ans unreliable (when you can find them!) I had booked a suite, why a chance! Considering the quality of the equipment and the bathroom, I don't even want to imagine what a double room would have looked like. Bathroom is small and dirty. Everything is falling appart. We had been awarded with a used soap and shampoo. The towels were old and dirty as well a the bed sheets. The maid "cleaned" the room although we had put the DND sign on the door. Breakfast buffet is a joke: bread is dry (from last night dinner!?), coffee is terrible. The rest of the food is looking sad and nothing is fresh. We decided to have breakfast in town for the next morning. Hotel is noisy as all the room are arranged on one big corridor. You can hear the guests coming in and out of the hotel all night, as well as your neighbours activity. I would not recommend this hotel.

Review 34:The view form the balcony is nice.

Review 35:very bad location (up to 30 minutes to walk to the closest bus station down the hill along to the highway), reception couldn't understand your needs and listen customers, trying to give false info regarding around sightseeings

Review 36:good rooms with great views

Review 37:- value for money, room was quite ordinary - Location was impossible to reach by public transport; you had to hitch hike to the bus station. - Only take this if you travel by car - owners didnt speak English that well and therefore came across pretty rude sometimes. - View was not as spectacular as I imagined

Review 38:- breakfast, extensive and delicious - pool, nice and large

Review 39:Theodosìa and her family are kind and always helpful and they really make you feel like home. The restaurant is great and the chef is a real genius, the best in Akrotiri (and probably in whole Santorini). The hotel is new and the staff take care of every detail. The location is excellent but of course you need a car or a scooter to travel around the island.

Review 40:No high chair in the Restaurant which made family dining hard work for us. The bed mattresses were hard. The en suite bathroom was small for a family.

Review 41:The location was fantastic. The Restaurant offered superb food, very high quality and exciting to eat. The pool was lovely. The family who run the hotel are so warm and welcoming. The breakfast was lovely.

Review 42:Wi-fi range is limited to the restaurant area.

Review 43:The hotel is located in the quiet part of Akrotiri, on the Caldera side, with the best views over the Caldera. The staff is very friendly. The pool is nice and has a great view for the sunset. The restaurant is absolutely amazing and has the best chef in Santorini, and fabulous views. You should try it! The best way to reach the hotel is by car. We recommend to rent one, fact being the hotel is close to all the famous beaches in Santorini.

Review 44:Just be careful to not get ripped off by the taxis/shuttles from the airport to the hotel. I think I paid 25 euro and could (should) have paid much less. I definitely recommend considering a rental car, at least for the final 24 hours before leaving the island. This way you are able to arrange drop off of the vehicle at the airport upon your flying out.

Review 45:I arrived at Caldera Romantica (CR) and was immediately greeted by the nice Greek family that owns/operates the hotel. Theollosia (Spelling?) was a great and friendly manager. She made check-in very easy. From the start, I loved the views surrounding CR and Akrotiri. There is also a lovely view across the water to Fira and Oia. I really liked the location of CR due to the fact that it was outside the noise and crowds of Fira, yet it was still very easy to get to both Fira and Oia via the transportation afforded to travelers on the island. There were also beaches and even a lighthouse within a nice walking distance. I ended up renting a car one of the days I was there and the rental company showed up at the hotel for drop off, then allowed me to return in to the airport on my final day before flying out. This worked great as I did not have to pay for shuttle back to the airport. I believe the car for 24 hours was around 30 euros. I used the car to head to Oia for the beautiful sunset, although the sunset on Akrotiri is also very beautiful. Other pluses include excellent wifi, air-conditioning, a beautiful pool, and a nice market within walking distance to grab drinks, snacks, etc. Now for the Caldera Romantica Restaurant. I absolutely loved the food there and the chefs George, Alex, and Rose were both excellent in their customer service, but better yet, they were some of the best and most creative chefs I have been able to dine from. The restaurant is new with a great atmosphere and very reasonable prices considering the quality of the food. The menu also had great variety, all using very fresh ingredients. During my trip to Santorini I can say that I ate in this restaurant about 75% of the time. While I was there, people were making the drive away from all of the restaurants Fira has to offer just to try this restaurant out. I think those guys are definitely going somewhere with this restaurant - I definitely recommend!

Review 69:The hotel has just opened a restaurant with a young chef who uses the famous local ingredients with great flair. The location is excellent for those who want to see the excavations of the Minoan era city and want a caldera view without the tourist crush of Fira and Oia.
