Reviews for The Connemara Hostel - Sleepzone
Review 1:The bunk beds quality is not good and you can feel when the person at the top is moving. The sink in the toilet didnt have cold water and got clogged and the toilet was clogged too.
Review 2:The water in the bathroom and in the kitchen is brown, it's not very comforting but there are some bottles available to drink. The wifi is not working in the room, only in the common rooms.
Review 3:Very nice view and breakfast ok for the price! There are special rooms to spend an evening watching a movie or playing pole. It's also very nice outside!
Review 4:The rain! Torrential for all our stay!
Review 5:Location. Great access to Galway and mayo. Stunning views of mountain and of Killary. Very friendly staff and such comfy beds.
Review 6:Bedrooms very damp. Even beds felt damp. Bedroom carpet stained. Water pressure very low. Couldn't have shower due to lack of water.
Review 7:Downstairs - breakfast room, lounge, kichen very clear and good facilities.
Review 8:There were two sinks in the kitchen only one worked. There were three cookers in the kitchen only two working. The hot wAter boiler for tea and coffee broke down whilst we were their also. The shower in one of the rooms that we booked didn't work. Some of the families were sleeping full length on the sofas in the TV room which meant no one else could use it. The smoking area was not covered in just outside the back door.
Review 9:Staff very friendly. Free wifi. Surroundings are lovely.
Review 10:The stairs in the room, we had toddler and were frightened he'd fall.
Review 11:We and our 4 young kids stayed in the room after 10pm both nights we stayed, and chatted in the dark on the bunk beds. That was the highlight of my week away.
Review 12:The in room bathroom was ok, but the shower wasn't functioning
Review 13:Incredible view, clean, great premises with panoramic common rooms and lunch room, staff very helpful and lovely
Review 14:We had a large, comfortable room with a great view.....not all have the nice view. There were gorgeous flowers blooming off the huge dining room. Cooking facilities were good - "toast", jam, butter were included in the cost.
Review 15:Nothing
Review 16:Everything, specially the managwr. I have sleep in mamy hostels overwhole europe and he are the first one wich have all guests a guided tourand explain everything. Th hostel are perfect if you prefer naturebefore shopping
Review 17:Room was dirty, and very smelly. Beds were damp and the walls were stained and mouldy from damp. Disgustingly overpriced, cold and was not comfortable at all. I've stayed in hostels all over the world and this was abysmal on every level.
Review 18:Location was idyllic
Review 19:Nothing to dislike.
Review 20:Staff are very friendly particularly Fergal, very well run and managed professionally. Location is great, with lovely views and clean Irish Air. Kitchen was fully equipped and what is best is that there is free milk, tea and coffee available, hard to beat.
Review 21:The room was wet and therefore little bit smelly. We could not open the windows because of bitting insects. The nets in the windows would solve the problem.
Review 22:Simple breakfast was enough. Nice and helpfull staff. Very well equiped kitchen.
Review 23:Unfortunately water encouraged lots of biting midges when we were there so couldn't go outside. Rooms felt quite cold and damp as a result, not so comfortable with bunk bed style.
Review 24:Free breakfast, very spacious common areas, good cooking facilities, nice view, friendly staff
Review 25:Would have bn nice if there was cereal provided. Other than that it was great.
Review 26:I would like to thank the staff who were so friendly throughout our visit. There was grest atmosphere in the hostel. When my friend injured her knee they were really helpful and nice providing assistance whenever possible. Merci beaucoup !
Review 27:Same price as the local hotel - barely warm showers and rooms so not ideal if you like your comfort.
Review 28:Great staff who work really hard and even loaned me a pair of hiking boots when I forgot mine!
Review 29:Cold shower ....no hot water at 6 in the evening ...was told that it was due on at 6 .....waited 20 mins and gave up ....was warm in the morning ...very easy to rectify I am sure
Review 30:This is a very nice hostel ..ample parking ...very friendly staff and one most beautiful locations in ireland ....
Review 31:Some of other travellers were a bit noisy at night and inconsiderate. Water pressure was not great and showers only luke warm, a bit of a downer after swimming in the Fjord!
Review 32:The staff were fantastic, so friendly and helpful and constantly keeping the hostel clean.
Review 33:Room was damp, bed was hard, no extra pillows or blankets. Bar was 'out of stock' when we arrived.
Review 34:Friendly staff, nice busy atmosphere, beautiful outdoors on your doorstep.
Review 35:Not enough water coming out of the shower, not always hot water available, hard to get anywhere without your own car
Review 36:Super location, great public facilities
Review 37:- breakfast with very limited choice - poor atmosphere, nobody speaks to each other, maybe too many foreign families or young couples who stay there just to cut the cost and don't really care about the hostel conviviality
Review 38:- quietness - clean - friendly staff - perfect location
Review 39:The price, E53 after a 10% discount. We had a good size room, but there were no chairs and no table so we had to put everything on the floor. The shower didn't work. It took 2 hours before we could shower. Breakfast was abysmal, cheap bread and jam, tea and coffee was all. The WiFi didn't work in our room.
Review 40:We got a room to ourselves. The staff members were pleasant.
Review 41:A big noise, coming for other toilets at night time and young people a three oclock in the morning doing a party. Higger price respect other hostel from the same company.
Review 42:spectacular location
Review 43:My dad noticed there was no hot water in the morning. It's great that they offer free breakfast, however if you're not up early, chances are the place is crowded, especially if there's a group of students around (we didn't mind at all, though... just noted) ;-)
Review 44:Amazing Location, so beautiful I dragged my dad all the way to Killary Fjord just so I could show him this hostel. To accomodate our wishes they put an extra bed into my dad's single room. Price remained, however it was so much more comfortable.
Review 45:Lovely hostel, spacious and clean rooms, friendly staff, great location if travelling with car or bike, if hiking the hostel a bit far from Leenane and the main road. Really enjoyed our stay, would recommend to anyone
Review 46:It's a bit tough to find as the GPS doesn't recognize the road. Just keep going past Leenaun, towards the ocean, and look for their road sign a couple miles out. If you get to the Sheep Farm road, you've gone too far. Also, stock up your supplies before you get there as there is no store within walking distance. Avoid The Village Grill in Leenaun unless you like frozen waffles and the likes.
Review 47:My parents, 2 kids and I went to Ireland for a month and did little side trips to different areas around the country. One of our side trips was to the Connemara Hostel Sleepzone and we were so in love with the location of this place. We got a room that was facing the Killary Harbour and walked down to the water side every day. It's neighbors with Killary Adventure Company, which looked awesome. Next time, when I'm not with little kids, I'll have to try them out.
Review 48:Some walking/cycling maps that show the smaller roads would have been handy. Not ideal when you don't have a car, perfect for one day, but getting around could become a major problem if you plan on staying more nights.
Review 49:I stayed in a private ensuite room, it was very comfortable and had views over the Killary Fjord. Small but clean bathroom. Breakfast is simple, but the kitchen is very well equiped, best kitchen I've ever seen in a hostel! Buy your food beforehand because the hostel is somewhat in the middle of nowhere, so bring your own dinner. I didn't have a car so I came prepared. Not having a car makes things a bit more difficult to get around the area. I walked a lot, and also borrowed a bike, free of charge. There are some steep slopes though, so cycling around is not exactly easy (especially if you're not sporty) but it was SO worth it. The views are absolutely stunning!! The Galway Tour Company dropped me off in the afternoon and picked me up again the next day. I will definitely return, but by car to get around more easily. Absolutely recommended though, the location is SO stunning, you'll want to keep photographing the same mountains over and over again! PS: Have some mussels from the stall on the main road (direction of Leenane), delicious! :)
Review 50:If you like nature: come! Surrounded by mountains of Connemara and at the Killary Fjord. Very calm and breathtaking scenery. Apart from the times that next door neighbour Killary Adventures has activities on the water (twice a day a 2 hour session- like kayaking or gorge climbing) it is silent at the fjord. You hear the sheep from the mountain on the other side. Tip: go take a seaweed bath at the Leenane hotel in the village after a walk in the mountains! Just one bus a day from either Galway or Westport to get here, if you don't have your own car. Once at the hostel we also hitch hiked around and that went really well. Staff is capable, very helpfull and most of all very friendly!
Review 51:Facilities were fairly basic, no blind on velux windows, no hot water in mornings for showers, window didn't close properly & whole place could do with a lick of paint.
Review 52:Location was great & scenery was stunning. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable beds.
Review 53:Stunning view, location
Review 54:Not the best value for money compared to other hostels I've stayed at.

Review 75:Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 76:The location is spectacular overlooking Killary Fjiord. It did get a bit cold during the night but that's the time of year.
Review 77:lack of comfort in the bedroom

Review 84:Nice accommodation, calm location.
Review 85:No ATM near and the restaraunts and shops only take cash.
Review 86:Amazingly beautiful location. Everything about it is breathtaking.
Review 87:friendly, very comfortable,
Review 88:The location was brillliant right beside the fjord, great scenic location.
Review 89:Far from town
Review 90:Beautiful location
Review 91:common using of fridge is not happy, someone has eaten our food
Review 92:location is very nice in heart of nature
Review 93:No public transport to the hostel Room smelled of old carpet Midges, broken toilet in main building
Review 94:The fjord, boat trip, abundance of nature, dvd collection
Review 95:Some trouble with their water, location was a little remote. Midges were out at night!
Review 96:Beautiful view of the fjord. Staff was very accommodating; let us change rooms to get one with heat working better.
Review 97:shower plug hole needed to be unblocked a bit... didn't drain very well.
Review 98:we liked the building, the beds, the pool room/bar area and the relaxed atmosphere and it was quiet at night.
Review 99:internet comment were right about dampness of the rooms. it is not that bad but can't be missed.
Review 100:sharing area (leaving, dinning, annexe) are well kept. the view is amazing from the dinning room.
Review 101:washing machine working for over the nigh and staff being really noisy in the washing room being located just by the bedroom
Review 102:Everything except washing machine working for whole the night just by our bedroom and somebody working in there really noisy...
Review 103:No issues whatsoever!
Review 104:Friendly welcome with overview of facilities, food, bar etc.. Room was very clean with fresh bedding and fresh atmosphere. Surprisingly quiet after 11.30pm which can be quite unusual for hostel type accommodation. I was very comfortable and impressed.
Review 105:Sorry, but we didn't like this place. You must put truly and full information: yellow water, dirty towels and you must be prepared to bring a lot of things with you ... But the staff is good. And surroundings are beautiful ( in good weather).
Review 106:This is good place to visit for teenagers .
Review 107:I didn't understand that this place really was in the middle of nowhere. You should bring your food with you.
Review 108:The place was beautiful and cosy. I really enjoyed my stay.
Review 109:we (mother & son) were given a bunk room, after reserving a twin room. but we were able to change. it would be good to know exactly what kind of room it was in advance!
Review 110:The location, view, facilities, plenty to do and see.
Review 111:Unfortunately due to weather damage from recent storms there was either hot water or heat but not both at same time.
Review 112:Beautiful scenery and very handy for Kilarry adventure centre.
Review 113:I would recommend taking a car. It is remote which is a positive but practially for groceries its a 4m walk each way to the village. Although the hostel has a shop..
Review 114:The staff were really freindly and eager to help. There were a few day rooms with lovely views so you could lounge and read. An open fire was prepared in the main sitting room and bar which was cozy and warm. A simple breakfast was offered which was nice and the dinning room was a social area as a result.
Review 115:It says free wifi but u have to sit in a small hallway to gain access. It was very quiet while I was there- I can't imagine what it's like when's its full-- you'd only get about 5 people in this hallway !
Review 116:Very friendly, easy atmosphere , comfortable bed.
Review 117:it's a bit far from the city if you don't have a car but hitch-hiking will work as well!
Review 118:Excellent atmosphere, marvelous location, great price and super nice staff!!
Review 119:The room smelled like cat's pee. The toilet cistern of our private bathroom didn't work and the solution they gave us was just a bucket. The shared toilet, our solution to the cistern problem, didn't have toilet paper.
Review 120:Probably the only good aspect of this hostel is the situation, in the middle of Connemara Natural Park.
Review 121:There were problems with the bathroom at the beginning (mostly pressure and lack of water, but also temperature of the shower). Difficulties to reach the hostel and to find food in a grocery store while traveling with public transport or on foot. You need car or bike to access hiking roads, villages or tourist places like Kylemore Abbey or the Connemara National Park.
Review 122:Nice location, with spectacular view Friendly & very helpful staff Quiet place Simple breakfast provided Good value for money Good facilites In a nutshell, we like the hostel despite of the negative points. We took a bedroom for 4. Our stay was 4 days and 5 nights and it was perfect for what we wanted: a place to sleep and rest, with lot of hiking, far away civilization. The comfort was at the height of our budget. I would definitely come back, but with a car this time!
Review 123:little difficult to reach while traveling with public transport. (tips: Hitchhike)
Review 124:Friendly and very helpful staff, nice location, very quiet and restful place
Review 125:Not sure what it was but maybe pipes or plumbing but bit noisy at timesthrough the night in.my dorm. Not a biggy tho.
Review 126:I liked location. Out of the way. Quiet and pretty. I had a car so.easyto reach. Bit tricky with out own transport perhaps. Staff wereoutstanding. Very friendly and helpful.
Review 127:Only improvement would be to have a sign making the entrance/reception area easier to find. We ended up walking round the wholeoutside of the building before we found the way in.
Review 128:The staff were very friendly and really helpful... Keen to give us ideasabout what to do during the day. Quiet at night. Lovely location, although we had a car which made it easy to access. Liked that a simplebreakfast was provided, with tea and coffee always available.
Review 129:If you're going to be there for a few days, best have a car (something I'll definitely look at next time) to be able to see & do more in the area :)
Review 130:The views were amazing, the sunsets over the mountains/sea are definitely something to see :) Staff couldn't have been more helpful :D
Review 131:there was some little insects in room and bathroom, that actually bite
Review 132:the fact that we can borrow bikes for free ! the landscapes were beautiful ! the breakfast was nice and complete, it's not like that in every hostel.
