Reviews for St Ives Hotel
Review 1:The room was dated in need of a refurb. The pool was OK , the changing room are also in need of a refurb. The hotel is being refurbished unfortunately we did not experience this on our visit.
Review 2:The staff are great ready to help. the position of the hotel Excellent right on the front at St Annes. The food also was excellent.
Review 3:Very spacious room, with a spotlessly clean bathroom. Friendly efficient staff and a comfortable stay. Superb choice at breakfast too! For the price, this little hotel was top quality. Highly recommended!
Review 4:1. The wind blowing through the windows. 2. The room smelled of cigarette smoke 3. The porridge at breakfast tasted more like rice pudding. 4. Smokers outside the front entrance
Review 5:The location and the Sea View
Review 6:We came to stay at this hotel as my partners mother worked there as a teenager. We were excited to stay, and the room was a good space and comfy bed. However through the course of the night my newborn daughter (who was sleeping in bed with us) started crying suddenly so I put the light on, and lifted her to up to find a finger nail clipping under her neck. I was horrified and disgusted. After finding this, I went to reception to ask for a new sheet, whilst changing the sheet I found 3 other nail clippings on the floor! Absolutely disgusting and unhygienic. We also found a tiny orange ball under the bed, the size of a m&m which a young child could choke on. Also at 9:44 a man tried to enter our room, after knocking. I was feeding my child so never had a top on - lucky I locked the door. I then stopped feeding her and opened the door - he responded with 'sorry I thought you had gone' really strange as check out was only at 11am. The staff didn't seem shocked at our findings. I even showed the night staff my nails which are acrylic and husbands which hasn't been clipped in a while to prove these weren't our nails. The guy from the evening shift promised to pass the comments on the morning staff - however he failed to mention it. Really sad about this as we know the previous owners of the hotel and were highly recommended to stay. We won't recommend it to others, as we weren't even offered a full refund. Really sad we had to pay for this - when we were far from satisfied.
Review 7:The bed was comfy and the girls working in the morning were lovely and welcoming
Review 8:The room was comfortable and spacious with plenty of storage. The bathroom was clean and spacious The staff were very pleasant especially the staff serving at breakfast
Review 9:First room was not clean. We were moved to another room also not as clean as it could be. Staff responded immediately and cleaned room for us.
Review 10:Fab pool. Staff were very friendly and helpful and keen to sort any issues.
Review 11:Husband and I constantly being addressed as 'guys' by various members of staff. Noisey neighbours at about 4.00 am.
Review 12:Generous room size. Good housekeeping and reasonable breakfast.
Review 13:No shower gel free in room, so remember to bring your own.
Review 14:Great location. Lovely friendly staff. Good value for money. Nicely cooked English breakfast.
Review 15:Not being able to book into room on arrival having stated when booking the time of arrival. Unreasonable noise from other guests. Work in adjacent room started - hammering/drilling - early in the morning without being warned
Review 16:Proximity of hotel
Review 17:Loved the position. Great access for shops, walks and bus routes. Maybe some people would like more restaurants, but for us, we were happy with the choice. Would definitely visit and check deals again.
Review 18:There was nothing to dislike, just maybe to have it a little warmer in tbe reception area
Review 19:Another fab weekend, food excellent, fab weekend for family's. Lunch with santa, kids Xmas party. Adult entertainment good. Great shopping in Blackpool, Again if your feeling lonely or are a single parent you won't feel alone. Staff amazingly helpful and friendly. Just wish it was open Xmas day, cause me and my family would definitely live to spend Xmas their. They have been enquiring if the hotel would fill over Xmas. I have not doubt it would truly brilliant hotel to be in. Please open for next xmas
Review 20:room we were allocated - in annex - like a dungeon - horrible! To be fair we were advised in advance that we would be in the annex, but wouldnt stay again in that room, even though only staying for two nights.
Review 21:been to the st ives many times, you know what you are getting, good for young children, main ballroom nicely refurbd, dining facilities good
Review 22:The pool was a tad on the cold side this time, still it blew the cobwebs away.
Review 23:Our fourth time here and each time we come away wanting more. Excellent service, food and facilities for a hotel that punches way above its weight.
Review 24:sheet and undersheet a little small for the big comfortable mattress. No net curtain on large window. ` Not a big issue though, because rooms are currently being updated.
Review 25:Great location, Facilities Brilliant too, Staff very friendly and helpful, also food good with great choice, (`really liked the poolside bar/ snackbar for the lighter bites)
Review 26:Mouldy bathroom! Because of strong wind faulty emergency door in the corridor banging all night long! Hotel in need of a revamp! At £95.00 a night, disappointed!!!
Review 27:Location by the seafront and 5 minutes away from Blackpool. Swimming pool and sauna.
Review 28:It was a little pricey fit drinks but we didn't care cause the atmosphere made up for that
Review 29:St ives has bee n remodernised and has a brilliant family atmosphere. The food is excellent and the staff are fabulous. If you are retired and in your own it's the perfect place to be as the staff ho out if there way so you enjoy your holiday experience. Its like home from home. I would not hesitate to come on my own if I had to and I would feel safe and secure and welcome
Review 30:Excellent hotel. 3rd time I've stayed this year & great every time. My kids love it. Great entertainment for all family. Staying New Year- can't wait. Great staff.
Review 31:The first evening meal had been left under the heat lamps too long and was extremely overcooked. In the main restaurant there is only a carvery and it is self service, okay for breakfast but not for an evening meal.
Review 32:The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and efficient. The Hotel was pleasantly decorated.
Review 33:Wonderful staff, courteous and helpful. Excellent value for money, breakfast included with hot milk ready for coffee and also prepared Bircher muesli, better than many 5 star hotels. Spotless and quiet room as requested. Superb
Review 34:The staff were particularly helpful - all of them, but especially Linda in the restaurant and Glenn, who were kind and considerate to my father-in-law, who is dying of cancer. They did everything they could to ensure everybody had a happy time.
Review 35:Bit disappointed with the (pool) leisure facilities seemed a little dirty and the pool was murky and cold. The hotel did seem tired and in need of repainting in areas.
Review 36:Had a problem with the room and the receptionist immediately upgraded without hesitation. All staff had time for us, all smiling.Breakfast was excellent. All staff were very happy in their job and this was nice and refreshing.
Review 37:Room was in a very poor state. Pillows felt as if they'd been eaten by rats. There was no shower curtain and the TV was in a very poor position. The hotel room was tatty and there was rust/mould in the bathroom. Would never stay there again. Far too much money paid for a night. Breakfast was ok, but the orange juice was very watered down/ orange squash. Inadequate.
Review 38:Leaving.
Review 39:When we are arrived we was given a triple(1 double & 1single bed) room instead of a family room (1 double & 2 single beds) which we had booked as party of 2 adults and 2 children, and hotel was unable to supply extra bed, so we had to share 1 adult and 1 child per bed. When we went to our room we discovered that it had not been cleaned properly, dressing/tea table was sticky and dirty, cups and saucers were unclean. Bedside tables and shelves were all dirty. Complained to front desk and reception staff and front of house staff were very good, brought clean cups and glasses and offered to get housekeeping to come back, however due to the late time both children were going to sleep and housekeeping wasn't possible. Also when we went to use the toilet discovered the toilet lid was broken and had just been placed on top of toilet.
Review 40:The shower was slow to drain, but all still worked properly.
Review 41:The staff was very helpful and friendly. The hotel breakfast was very nice and had a wide selection. The rooms were clean and had adequate linens. It was a nice place to sleep--no loud noise-- and then its location put us right at the square. Very nice.
Review 42:pool not clean, bed needed replacing, pillows needed replacing, full hotel needs decorating, fan outside bedroom window very noisy
Review 43:Breakfast was great and the staff was very helpful
Review 44:its under refurbishment so our room and bed was tired but would go back again hopefully refurbishment will be finnished
Review 45:Rooms were lovely ours was a bit tired but my daughter had family room with her 1yr old son and it was newly refurbished, cot was new and when she turned on tv it had the cbbeebies ready tuned in, which was a nice touch, breakfast was good but no teaspoons near coffee/tea area it was a fight to the death to get a spoon. Staff were brilliant we went to have breakfast and my daughter asked me to pass her a high chair and before i could move staff brought one over now thats service.
Review 46:We didn't have any supplied bathroom gels or shampoo which we expected, but that's nitpicking!
Review 47:The pool and the sauna were a lovely bonus. The breakfast food was very enjoyable too.
Review 48:Breakfast didn't cater for veggies, no cooked breakfast for them and no gluten free options.
Review 49:We had a family room, great having separate rooms. The staff were kind and patient with my three year old grandson.
Review 50:Being senior citizens there were too many children running around for our liking although we do realise this is a family hotel.
Review 51:The location of Hotel was ideal for the purpose of our stay. Room was comfortable and a good size. The overall facilities of the Hotel were very good.
Review 52:Room and corridors were very tired and require refurbishment. Bathroom was run down with bath panel stained and poorly fitted. Mattress was also worn and sagging.
Review 53:Welcome was good and staff helpful. Location was very good.
Review 54:Room was at the top of the hotel, lots and lots of very steep stairs, struggled with this as not very fit, especially when taking luggage to the room. This was the only problem but could put me off going again, unless could get a room on a lower floor.
Review 55:Loved the breakfasts. Staff extremely helpful and polite. Swimming pool not very big but very nice if you can choose your time! Bit cold though. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, hope to go again next year.
Review 56:Me and my partner are in no way picky when it comes to staying in hotels. All we expect is the basic standard of cleaning and a comfotable bed. There was niether which is really disappointing. The pillows were paper thin and we only got one spare. You can ask for more pillows at reception but we didn't bother to ask as we were only there for one night. Also there were stains on walls and cushions. But the biggest problems were hairs in the bath and on the floor. Also the noise at the back of the hotel at 7am was annoying due to a coach parked outside our room. Maybe we was just unlucky with the day we picked.
Review 57:Staff were very helpful and polite and the location could not have been better. On your doorstep you have the sea and a three minute walk just at the back of the hotel you'll find st Anne's city center which was very convenient if you need cash machines, food or drink. The breakfast was excellent, lots of choice, very nicely cooked. The indoor pool was the main reason we picked the hotel. We had to wait till later in the day to have a swim as most of the day children would fill the pool. We did book after the school holidays as to avoid this but there were alot of children, not the hotels fault.overall we proberbly would stay again for a short stay. Good price
Review 58:The only bad experience of our stay was the taxi firm Whiteside who have a free to use phone in the hotel. We booked at taxi at 7pm and were told by the operator Danny that the taxi was on its way. When we had to call Danny back 24 minutes later he told us that we had only booked 4 mins earlier. Then he called us liars. When the taxi finally arrived we were late for a show and the driver thought he was at Silverstone. Poor taxi service and the hotel would do well to find another preferred taxi provider. And Danny, well Danny is very lucky he was miles away in an unknown location or the girlfriend would have cut off his family jewels. Danny from Whiteside Taxis has no manners or customer service skills.
Review 59:The buffet breakfast was excellent
Review 60:... room bit old fashioned.. due an upgrade parking a bit tight !
Review 61:...Great friendly staff... Super location,,,near prom and pier shops / resaurants
Review 62:We asked for a sea view, but got a view of the car park around the back and a skip!! The bed reminded us of a student bed, didn't look forward to bed time! Won't be staying at that particular hotel in in the future.
Review 63:The location
Review 64:Our room was a bit shabby and could do with a good makeover. Breakfast was a self-service style which we don't enjoy. The cleaner knocked the door twice between 9am and 11am to clean our room but we were only there for one night and we're having a lie in.
Review 65:Great spot close to the pier in Lytham St Anne's.
Review 66:Not much choice for children's evening meals,
Review 67:We took our grandchildren, 3 and 7 who loved the entertainment for them in the evening! And the young lady in the craft room was especially good, have been a couple of times before but must say she has been the best, will definitely take them again.
Review 68:We stayed in the annexe, the beds were far too soft. the whole of our 3 night stay we could never get wi fi.
Review 69:Entertainment for kids was excellent! Food and breakfast was really good.
Review 70:Hotel very clean & friendly staff, lots of activities for children, all free, leisure facilities very good. Plenty of choice for breakfast which was excellent and also for evening meal. Would recommend .
Review 71:Poor wifi signal, no hot water in bathroom before 9am and breakfast was luke warm.
Review 72:Location great, room lovely and clean, location of room in annex ideal, lovely sun terrace at rear.
Review 73:room was very poor for price. walls very thin and below rooms and side rooms could be heard as if they were in the same room. I got very little sleep when we had been told the rooms were quiet. the dining room was like butlins in the 80s with a dingy feel, poorly lit and dark walls. one.
Review 74:staff were pleasant and the breakfast had a good selection even though the dining room was poor.
Review 75:Finding the bedroom was akin to being in a maze. Thankfully l am fit and healthy otherwise the number of steps would be a problem.
Review 76:Location of hotel is excellent. Food was very good.
Review 77:Paid alot of money for 2night stay in a family room! Was not worth the money was very expensive for a little room! The hotel is dated and is actually leaning to ine side.
Review 78:Rooms could do with updating but they are clean and comfortable. It was very hot when we were there and the windows did not open very much but other than that it was a fine.
Review 79:Hotel is amazing for families, great facilites including swimming pool, crafts room, playroom, tv room and childrens entertainment. This was our 4th time visiting and we will be back next year. Breakfast was amazing and plently of options available. Most of the hotel has been upgraded and is very modern. Staff were very helpfull and pleasant.
Review 80:The mattress was badly soiled and sagged in the middle we left a night early,we have written to the hotel with pictures and have not heard from them. Would not recommend to anybody without looking at the beds
Review 81:The restaurants and shops were only a short walk from the Hotel. Although the beach was right on the door step of the Hotel it wasn't noisy. Also you could sit outside on the front and enjoy a drink in pleasant surroundings.
Review 82:We received a phone call en route saying our room had been flooded and no other rooms were available. The caller said he could book us in at the Inn on the Prom, should he book? it would cost a further £15 ( a cost I thought St Ives Hotel should have paid) So we stayed next door.
Review 83:Nothing
Review 84:room didn't appear to have been cleaned properly, pair of boxer shorts left in wardrobe and bin not emptied, dust on tv.taps on sink loose and when shower on water sprayed out from around the tap.no top sheet on bed, pillows very worn and lumpy...no support left in them!
Review 85:very friendly staff, layout and facilities in hotel were fine
Review 86:Non really enjoyed it
Review 87:Stayed in room.61 newly decorated. Kids loved it pool and sauna great breakfast delicious staff lovely and helpful. Loads for kids to do on front too
Review 88:We were really disappointed that the lounge where the evening entertainment usually takes place was closed due to refurbishment. We weren't warned it was closed, it meant the kids were bored at night. This was our second visit to the hotel and we specifically came back because of how much the kids enjoyed evening entertainment last time. Also the room we stayed in wasn't as nice as on our initial visit so not sure if we would go back again.
Review 89:The kids loved how close we were to the beach. They enjoyed the swimming pool and arts and crafts room.
Review 90:Rooms are very dated, the bathroom especially which could also have been cleaner. My party was booked as 2 adults and 2 children under 2, yet no cots were waiting for us in the room. One if the minor stairways is literally falling to one side and should be closed or repaired, there is also a main stairway and a lift which are both fine so it's not really needed.
Review 91:The location was great, very close to St Annes pier and the town centre. Family room of a double and 2 twin beds was also a good size.
Review 92:Toddlers nursery a few of the sit on toys were broken. Pool area could probably do with a refurbishment.
Review 93:The excellent rooms, lounge area, dining area and the wide range of events for children.
Review 94:building work going on at time of stay car parking poor perhaps due to hotel being fully booked room we had found to be a little dated & not part of main building
Review 95:good value good friendly staff plenty to keep us occupied but for building works going on
Review 96:We had been for warned that there would be maintenance being carried out and that started at 8:30 each morning, and was noisy with drilling ballroom/bar below room. Hotel is Family orientated Hotel so expect small children.
Review 97:Comfortable, well run, good attentive staff, good location on seafront.
Review 98:1) There were too many children 2) Unsuitable hotel for mature couples 3) Room was small & tired but functional 4) It was expensive for what it was 5) The restaurant was a a self service cafeteria 6) The bed was only a small double 7) Part of the hotel (the bar and Ballroom(?) was closed for renovation; no-one had told us about that.
Review 99:Nice view to the pier and the very distant sea
Review 100:Ballroom was being renovated so no evening entertainment however saw the plans in reception and will look great when completed
Review 101:Lovely hotel in a brilliant location .. Staff very friendly and helpful and breakfast was first class
Review 102:no wifi in room and had to go outside to use your mobile phone could not get single in room
Review 103:hotel nice and clean staff very polite room and meals excelant
Review 104:Not a bad experience but being on the ground floor would have liked to be able to open the window and let air in. As it opened fully I was reluctant to leave it over night. Perhaps some kind of catch needs fitting.
Review 105:Being in the quieter annex was great and having a pool was a big asset.
Review 106:We are a retired couple with our 2 yr old Grandaughter. The staff were wonderfull, nothing was too much trouble. The pool was excellent, meals good, and room comfortable
Review 107:The bathroom was seriously freezing, we were in room 4 with one little inadequate towel rail which never took the temperature above very cold and ensured that unfortunately we didn't shower or bathe during our one night stay, but my biggest bugbear was the lack of cleaning in the restaurant, we were there Saturday evening and for nearly an hour on Sunday morning and there was spilled cereal all over the sides and floor. At the start there was only one guy on duty but shortly afterwards three more staff came on and every single one of them ignored it, tables remained uncleared and there was just mess everywhere, it would have taken seconds to wipe a cloth over the spillage or to have put a bit of a spurt on and cleared tables and the restaurant wasn't that busy.
Review 108:This would be brilliant for families with small children but unfortunately it just wasn't for us, the staff are really friendly and professional and happy to help
Review 109:only one toast machine, for amount of guests just a minor niggle
Review 110:good food ,really clean friendly helpful staff, nice rooms, warm clean pool and entertainment too what more do you need
Review 111:Restaurant food and service was poor at best, Carvery food dried up choice of only two veg, staff oblivious to guests
Review 112:Swimming pool was very peasant if a bit complicated system for obtaining towels
Review 113:lumpy pillows and beds not very comfortable
Review 114:staff were lovely, helped with plug extensions but they were not of any use to fit more than 2 plugs in as too close to the wal
Review 115:Hot water tap in bathroom was loose but worked fine. Wifi wasn't within range in our room but was fine near the public areas.
Review 116:The staff were really helpful. Really liked the pool and sauna. Room was a good size with all working facilities and hot water at all times. Breakfast was excellent and so was the evening meal in the restaurant. Good price too!! Love to come back soon.
Review 117:Abysmal in some rooms due to noise from the functions room. Some double rooms very small and cramped. Free WIFI is a joke signal strength so low almost impossible to connect.
Review 118:Generally a nice hotel, excellent location with good staff and facilities.
Review 119:We stayed one night with our grandkids in a large family room with a double bed and 2 single beds. The pool was great on the Friday night however it was a touch chaotic on the Saturday morning due to swimmino club .the entertainment was good and there was a daily plan to keep the kids occupied
Review 120:Every time we have stayed at your hotel AND in different rooms, I have noticed black spots between tiles around the bath, which JUST NEED bleaching. Everywhere else in the bathroom very clean. A friend who stays frequently in your hotel has made the same comment. This is so simple to remedy for the hotel and would make 100 percent good for us.
Review 121:I like the staff, the food, the rooms and up to 10.30am breakfast.
Review 122:we were in room 5 and it was very dusty and the carpet and not been cleaned as there was tissue and hair on the floor and generally not very clean worktops sticky and had to rewash the tea cups . I didn't like to complain as we got the room at a very good price .
Review 123:Staff very helpful the manger on duty was very polite and friendly. brilliant parking facilities and amazing location
Review 124:Hotel was vastly overpriced, the bathrooms were very dirty and we had terrible rooms over the evening entertainment which was incredibly loud and meant we couldn't go to sleep until the early hours of the morning.
Review 125:Food was well cooked and there was a fair choice.
Review 126:Decor a bit tired and bland in places.. no black pudding at breakfast .... but overall pretty good value.
Review 127:Very pleasant receptionist and restaurant staff. Nice comfortable and quiet room for a mid week stay. Hearty breakfast.
Review 128:I have a sensitive back and need a very high quality bed. To be fair the St Ives bed was no worse than most other hotels I have stayed in but not good enough for me.
Review 129:The restaurant buffet dinner cost £15 and gave a delicious range of food (even for me with a need for Gluten Free) which I considered excellent. The staff were really friendly. I thought the price we paid of £55 per (family) room (in November) was very good value. There was dancing in the bar/ballroom which was great. We got back from viewing the Illuminations and had a drink at the bar and watched the other guests dancing. I wished that I had known how to dance so I could have joined in.
Review 130:Hard mattress, pillows too soft. There was a moisty damp smell in the bathroom, really needs a refresh.
Review 131:Pool, lounge areas, friendly staff. Would stay again.
Review 132:hotel is exceptional for families but we were 2 friends wanting a relaxing break could not get a quiet swim until 9 pm and no kid free areas not aware of this when we booked
Review 133:the chef went beyond expectation for dietary requirement and staff were very welcoming
Review 134:Room in annex to rear of hotel - felt prefab, poor/delapidated construction, noisy. Heating off on arrival - room cold. Damp and musty smell. Unable to detect Wifi yet claims to be available in all areas.
Review 135:Good size room Comfortable bed
Review 136:This is the second time we have stayed here with our grandchildren and we have enjoyed it both times . My 13yr old granddaughter loved her room very grown up, room 22 we will be back.
The Fine Print
The hotel is hosting party nights during December. There may be some extra noise during these. Please note that rooms are located across the hotel, including in the annex and the area above the ballroom.
