Reviews for The Blackhorse Hotel

Review 1:hotel very clean and the waitress staff bar staff were very friendly and helpful and at breakfast told staff that I had celiac and could not eat the bread went to check and they had bread for myself which was great

Review 2:The staff were very friendly, the room was was very clean and the food was excellent. We were going to the dark skies park which was only about a 5 minute drive until we got into the park so it is an excellent base for that.

Review 3:The bed was only a standard double where there was room for a King size

Review 4:Room was nicely decorated and at the back of the hotel. Food was of a high quality and service good. Better than I was expecting

Review 5:Had a minor technical problem with flushing a toilet. Quite fixable.

Review 6:As long as basic facilities are OK, the things that make a stay at a hotel memorable are usually to do with the staff. In the case of the Blackhorse Hotel the staff were fantastic. David, Keileigh, Lyndsay, Lisa treated us like part of the family and looked after all our needs brilliantly and with good humour. The food and the service was great. For a group of Aussies staying in rural Scotland for a few days, it was perfect. I'd love to stay there again.

Review 7:Fantastic breakfast experience! She was simply lovely and wonderful, not sure if she was the boss but did seem like it. We enjoyed the breakfast very much.

Review 8:If you visit The Black Horse ask for Kayleigh she is definitely an asset to the pub, she is very friendly and nothing was to much trouble as were all the staff.

Review 9:Very friendly staff, lovely room with oh so comfortable bed. The only thing that is missing from an Australian point of view is a small bar fridge in the room - most Australian hotels/motels have these

Review 10:the room I had was right above the bar which meant lots of noise until late into the night, plus all the smokers were right underneath my window, so lots of smoke in the room. The hotel is also on the main road, so expect traffic noise from early in the morning.

Review 11:very friendly staff

Review 12:My room was a bit tired looking, with a mattress that dipped at on side, almost rolled off in middle of night.

Review 13:The staff were friendly cheerful and really helpful. The room was clean. The food was homely, comforting and served piping hot.

Review 14:The wifi did not work in our room the only time we could get wifi was when we were in the bar and even then it was not a strong one.

Review 15:The staff were all lovely and helpful especially Lisa and Lindsey they were always checking we were alright and made us feel welcome.

Review 16:It is a very popular pub with mostly youngsters so if you want a quiet pint try the tiny beer garden at the rear.

Review 17:Staff were excellent, service all round was very efficient.

Review 18:Nothing wrong. Good value stay.

Review 19:excellent breakfast, nice comfy bed, welcoming staff who looked after us very well. Great location for the hill walking we were doing

Review 20:Room was small, although bathroom was spacious. More thought could have been put into design. Given the available space, the tiny shower could so easily have been a spacious luxury one. Worst feature.....noise. Loud parties on several nights with pounding music, singing, yelling and carrying on in the street under our window and in the bar. The road is a race-track for all but the small hours of the night. All the noise greatly spoiled the experience.

Review 21:Very clean. Staff helpful and obliging. Large bathroom. Very good Wi-Fi service. Plenty of drawer and hanging space.

Review 22:Nothing

Review 23:Comfy relaxing place to stop for the night. Nice atmosphere in the bar. Marta looked after us well in the morning and gave us a lovely breakfast.

Review 24:the staff were helpful and the room was good . the breakfast was excellent and it had a good public bar . location was good on the main street and it has a car park .

Review 25:Only fault was having to vacate room at 10am on the Sunday - 11am might have been better for guests.

Review 26:Couldn't fault the staff, they were very welcoming and friendly. Our room (4) was nice sized double with ensuite and out back of property so no road noise. Parking out back of hotel with cctv.

Review 27:Niggling here - £50 b&b is definitely OK but staying at similar hotels in the area paying £35 - £40 would suggest that this is just a tad over priced!

Review 28:Friendly staff. Comfy bed. End of town but still a good location - Newton Stewart isn't huge!

Review 29:Extremely friendly staff; treated us like family. Food was the biggest surprise; highest quality, very well presented. An authentic Scottish inn and pub.

Review 30:Not the hotels fault, but very noisy outside into the early hours with hoards of the younger generation fighting and arguing, probably caused by being a bank holiday and copious amounts of all day drinking.

Review 31:Very friendly staff, good location, good value, good parking facilities

Review 32:Upon arriving we were welcomed by name, now you can't ask for better service than that! Overall the staff were so friendly and helpful. Very impressed. Thank you.

Review 33:All staff were excellent and it felt like a home away from home. We had 3 rooms and all were excellent and the evening meal and breakfast was great. We hope to return soon and would recommend to anyone

Review 34:Excellent food, staff very friendly, room comfortable and clean. Would recommend the Blackhorse for an overnight stay on the way to or from the Cairnryan ferry

Review 35:Would have prefered double bed but single was comfy and as only for one night not an issue. TV wasnt the biggest in the room, also no easy plug to use for kettle.

Review 36:Brilliant location Good Breakfast Evening meal was also very good Free WiFi Staff very frendly and helpful Would stay again

Review 37:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a cosy feel to it with a good bar and the breakfast is great. The close proximity to the Stranrear and Cairnryan ferries is also a bonus.

Review 38:Faultless

Review 39:Excellent all round hotel. Friendly staff, good food, nice clean and comfortable room. Will definitely go back again. A very enjoyable experience.

Review 40:Nothing we didnt like but the wifi was a bit slow and a radio in dining room would be good for breakfast time.

Review 41:Loved the cosy feel of the pub. Made to feel at home, like a regular of the Blackhorse. Made to feel welcome by the other locals who drank there. Complimentary toiletries were fab extra touch. Food was great. Lisa included us in the Karaoke and the landlady offered to have gone the extra mile arranging champagne if she had realised our visit was special. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Review 42:Staff were helpful and kind. My room was small but comfortable and clean. Kayleigh apologised about the stunning view of a brick wall. As this was outwith the hotel's control it didn't bother me, but perhaps someone with claustrophobia may be troubled. I'd certainly return again.

Review 43:Parking is a small car park to the rear of the pub. Its off the road but insecure. I parked a motorbike overnight with no issues but there was nothing to lock it securely to.

Review 44:Solo travellers catered for in a small but perfectly suitable single persons room with on suite. Comfortable and fairly quiet despite being part of a very busy pub. Good food with reasonable prices and a busy bar.

Review 45:I woke up in the morning, opened the curtains and there was my view of a wall. I have no complaints about it as my reasons for being in Newton Stewart were practical and I did not want an expensive place. I just did not expect to see a wall. ( room 3) however if I stayed there again, I would not object to being in room 3.

Review 46:The cost was good, the quiet room was good and I wanted to be near Wigtown for the book festival, so that was excellent.

Review 47:Booking.com failed to pass on special request regarding dietary needs so no bread at breakfast. Not blackhorse's fault, they couldn't apologise enough!

Review 48:Varied pub grub menu, could have eaten there several nights.

Review 49:Lovely greeting from Kayliegh providing a good overview of hotel facilities and tips on what to do. Hubby and I enjoyed dinner in the hotel and having some drinks with the locals who made us Aussies very welcome. Breakfast was the best I have had in my three week trip across the UK. I would love to go back if I ever get the chance.

Review 50:Only one plug in room so could not re-charge phone and I-Pad together.

Review 51:Helpfullness of the staff, lovely breakfasts and evening meals, quietness of room and comfort, ideal location for local buses etc. and walking.

Review 52:nothing

Review 53:staff - extremely polite and helpful room - cleaned to a high standard food - breakfast and meals great selection would definitely stay here again and recommend fantastic value for money

Review 54:Small friendly inn with everything a visitor might need. Good atmosphere and a lovely courtyard area out at the back of the inn - perfect for summer mornings and evenings! Very friendly and helpful staff

Review 55:This hotel has memory foam beds. They are so uncomfortable, hard and hot. We had to put the duvet under the bottom sheet to soften the bed a bit so we could get to sleep. Had these in another hotel to, they are impossible to sleep on.

Review 56:Location

Review 57:Asked if blown bulb could be replaced in bedroom. It wasn't. Otherwise no complaints.

Review 58:Very comfortable room, not big but had ensuite with good shower.

Review 59:Location makes the front rooms noisy with cars and motor bikes. Juke box noise far too loud, also it carried upstairs.

Review 60:Staff very helpful and friendly. Excellent food.

Review 61:The automatic scent dispenser in the room. I unplugged it as soon as we arrived and put it outside the room.

Review 62:The welcoming friendly staff. The room was comfortable and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The hotel is well located in Newton Stewart and is typical of a well patronised local pub. Pub meals were reasonably priced, convienent and most importantly delicious.

Review 63:I have stayed in quite a few hotels but the staff here were the best I've encountered. They were welcoming and very friendly and helpful from beginning to end. The room had lovely furniture and although it had a pub downstairs it was quiet.

Review 64:Excellent value for money, pretty unbeatable on that in the area, good food and a good breakfast.

Review 65:Nothing really a bit of noise from other residents which you expect .

Review 66:The atmosphere was great ! Staff excellent .

Review 99:very nice hotel, good food, fantastic staff and made very welcome and very clean

Review 100:Loved my stay. was on business but I felt welcomed and comfortable. Food was very good

Review 101:Room was very cramped, small low cupboard in the corner to act as a wardrobe and the window looked onto a close brick wall!
