Reviews for The Crown Hotel

Review 1:Wifi a bit hit and miss. Can get a bit noisy at weekends but didn't hear anything in my room and slept well.

Review 2:Great location and popular bar. Great for the stanes trails. Staff were very nice. Rooms were quite basic but clean and didn't need anything more. Shower was powerful with plenty of hot water!

Review 3:pity there is no lift, as I have difficulty with stairs. Sorry the diner closed at 9pm, as we arrived back from Wigtown very hungry at 9.30.

Review 4:very helpful staff as I have difficulty walking.

Review 5:My room. It was very small, cramped and with only one tiny window set high in the wall. It appeared to be a storage area or a broom closet which had been converted. Not impressed.

Review 6:The staff. Really first rate. Very friendly and helpful. And the food. Really very good. I recommend the Balmoral Chicken.

Review 7:The feel of the hotel is very dated and the room wasn't particularly nice. The town of Newton stewart didn't offer much for us as a young family

Review 8:The breakfast was nice and in general the staff were pleasant.

Review 9:There was a function going on downstairs and we seemed to be placed directly above it. There was music blaring till 1 am. We may as well have been downstairs partying. Although we'd received an email to say there would be "a noise level" I never thought it would be that loud. There was also no bath just a shower. I feel this is inadequate for a family room as our 16 month little boy screamed when he had to get in.

Review 10:Breakfast.lots of choices even the children enjoyed it.

Review 11:At 10.30pm the dining room was cleared for a "disco". At midnight the music and shouting were deafening. At 1am the music stopped and the extremely drunk, extremely aggressive and unbelievably loud clients were evicted into the carpark - directly under our window where they fought physically and screamed abuse at one another. When the Police arrived they did nothing for an hour. When I shouted out of the window to them they moved a couple from directly below our window but the noise, vile language and drunken aggression continued until 3am. It was clear from staff that this happens weekly. This hotel needs to decide whether it is a very rough nightclub or a hotel. It cannot be both.

Review 12:The staff who served us at dinner were very friendly, as were those at breakfast. The room set up was ideal for us - a double room with twin beds in an Annexe for the children.

Review 13:Car Park is too narrow and difficult to manoeuvre. There is also a bizarre strip of wood which is difficult to see when reversing. On Saturday night there was noisy and tantamount to riotous behaviour outside that lasted for several hours (Galloway Pageant).

Review 14:Food was well cooked and tasty and service was good. There was also plenty of beverage material in room.

Review 15:Wi fi wouldn't work in rooms, but would in the bar area. No reception on television. Aerial needed replacing.

Review 16:The staff were very friendly. Located on the main road, but very quiet rooms. Meals very tasty and reasonably priced. Rooms clean.

Review 17:Only fault, coffee sachets in room was undrinkable. Poor heating. Water took 10 minutes to heat up.

Review 18:Food breakfast and evening meals were excellent. Rooms quiet spacious and relaxing.

Review 19:Radiators did not work in our room or along the corridor leading to room which meant that the place was cold. Door to bathroom did not close properly.

Review 20:Staff were welcoming and tried to resolve issues.

Review 21:When I arrived, John in reception had everything ready for me and answered all my questions. So I got my work jacket and boots dried in the boiler room and a packed lunch organised for the next day. Plus details for an evening meal and for breakfast. Well sorted!

Review 22:Hotel needs updating although restaurant and food was good.

Review 23:One night stay was adequate for us as travelling with pet and he was welcome in the bar and restaurant.

Review 24:No hairdryer in room. Photos on website didn't really do the hotel justice.

Review 25:Service from the staff was great, very accommodating. Nice hotel. I was informed that there would be entertainment the night I was staying and was placed in a room at the other end of the hotel where I heard nothing.

Review 26:On the down side...although our room was quite large the en-suite was a 'plastic cabin',similar to the en-suite on a sea ferry but smaller. It was claustraphobic and difficult to keep the bathmat dry as the shower curtain did not reach the floor. Also there was no provision of a Hygiene bin in the en-suite and generally no towel rails to air/dry ones towels.

Review 27:The area around the town was lovely, beautiful scenery, nice area to drive around and see the coastline. The people were very welcoming and friendly.Newton Steward is a charming little town with some attractive shops. The food at the hotel was very good and we were given huge portions.Well worth a repeat visit!

Review 28:Wanted a quiet clean bed for the night and a good breakfast. Ticked all the boxes Good there were no late check-in restrictions as we were arriving quite late.

Review 29:There was a function on on Saturday night. The music was very loud and did not finish until 1pm. It was not possible to fall asleep until after that point. Also, partygoers were smoking and messing around in the car park directly outside the bedrooms. This did not end until the police arrived.

Review 30:Location and décor in the rooms

Review 31:Extremely poor wireless internet even though it is advertised as being available. One of the main reasons we picked the hotel. Noisy guests+creaky floors and doors.

Review 32:Friendly staff. Good food. Reasonable price. We enjoyed our stay.

Review 33:although there was supposed to be Wi-Fi available in the public areas we could not get our phones and tablets to work as the signal was poor Standard of cleaning in our room was not as good as expected

Review 34:Location is good close to main road room was comfortable food was to a good standard and the menu was reasonably priced with a good selection restaurant staff were friendly and polite

Review 35:Noise from the road, broken toilet flush and bathroom needed a really good clean

Review 36:Staff fantastic, breakfast really good and breakfast room very clean and tidy

Review 37:Staff we're very friendly. En suite in one of the rooms was extremely bad - it was like a ports cabin structure that you would find in an aircraft.

Review 38:It was a bit cold and the rooms arrangement oldish.

Review 100:Hot water took ages to run but there was a notice telling me of that so no real problem.

Review 101:The location I Newton Stewart is very handy. Proper old town Inn. Was well equipped for the price.

Review 102:Room needs upgrading, wallpaper peeling and paint chipped in many places. Bathroom basic and no soap for washing your hands.. .

Review 103:Location and very friendly staff

Review 104:Nothing, I would have to be lifting carpets to find any faults

Review 105:The hotel is lovely, clean, comfortable. The food is excellent. We had an evening meal and thankfully our plates were not overloaded as you sometimes get, but just right. Lasagna was delicious, and my poached egg at breakfast was perfectly cooked. And it's pet friendly, so even better. I would definitely stay again.

Review 106:Bathroom facilities were too small, resembled a caravan set up not a hotel. Only facilities that didn't meet expecatation

Review 107:Room was really nice & bed was comfortable. Perfect location

Review 108:Not sure about pre ordering breakfast by 8pm night before sometimes I change my mind what to have

Review 109:Enjoyed the food in restaurant very reasonable prices breakfast was excellent

Review 110:Our room was a little dirty and it was cold. Despite having requested a quiet room, we were disturbed for two nights by laughter and banging doors downstairs in the early hours.

Review 111:The food and the staff were excellent. The shower was good.

Review 112:The staff were very friendly and relaxed and there was no fuss made when it was discovered that I had booked the wrong weekend! The dates were changed without a problem. The hotel was conveniently placed at one end of the town and it was easy to walk into the centre.

Review 113:Can't think of anything to say!!!!

Review 114:The lady who did breakfast and cleaned the rooms was very friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and warm. All in all we got the attention we wanted and was made to feel welcome from the offset. We were attending a family blessing reception at the hotel and stayed for 2 nights.

Review 115:I booked the hotel for myself and my staff as we where working from home, the Service from all staff members was excellent they seen to our every need, fantastic choice at breakfast cooked fresh the way we liked it every morning, Evening meals again delicious, I would highly recomend this accommodation to everyone

Review 116:The room was quite small with very limited wardrobe space, the way the VERY small TV was mounted made decent viewing impossable and you could not tilt it to improve things. for 18 hours we had no hot water after complaining there was an apology, but that was it no complimentary offerings or even slight reduction in bill and we were not the only ones affected.

Review 117:The breakfast was excellent and we loved the fact that you chose a time to eat and food was cooked freshley and not stewing in a buffet style. a good selection of bar / restaurant meals at reasonable prices. Good parking

Review 118:Bedroom was very small, with a tv 6ft off the floor, and no bigger thana laptop!! Certain areas were a bit scruffy, and Decor style rather allover the place. Overall I would expect more for £80 a night.

Review 119:The staff were lovely and friendly ,and the food was very good.

Review 120:Even though the style of the Decor was nice. It could be done to a slightly higher standard. The crumbling paint, touched up patches, rippling Lino look a bit shoddy. However this wasn't a major problem for us, we still had a lovely time.

Review 121:It was good value for Money. The staff were very friendly considering how much work they have to do. The decor style was a nice try. The food was lovely and there was plenty of it. Considering they said it would be noisy the night we stayed our three year old slept like a log. We didn't hear a thing.

Review 122:Hotel needs updating. It needs decorating and a general tidy up.

Review 123:Central location for touring Dumfries and Galloway. Staff very good and food good value.

Review 124:This is going to sound silly but due to bad positioning of toilet roll holder, the ensuite toilet was almost impossible to navigate!! A small thing but most annoying especialy in the middle of the night!!

Review 125:Staff very friendly and hard working.Food was excellent. Parking facility good.

Review 126:Minor fault with shower head not clamping. Informed staff so they were now ware of this and they thanked me for telling them!
