Reviews for Talbot Hotel Wexford

Review 1:Had to keep our coats on in the bar and for dinner because the hotel was so cold on the first night. The heating in our room was broken but we were given a blow heater. Not the standard we were hoping for.

Review 2:Location was good. Food was nice. Staff were lovely

Review 3:Stains on the carpet, renovations taking place in the morning when your sleeping, dirty grouting, stains and cracks in the bath, not value for money

Review 4:Location, friendly reception staff

Review 5:Checked in a little early @2pm girl at reception tagged our bags and arranged for them to be put in room while we went uptown for an appointment. Had excellent meal in bar later and breakfast on Sat morning upheld the high standard.

Review 6:Some of the carpet in the lobby was shabby

Review 7:The best part of our visit were the staff. They were welcoming and well trained in customer care. Well done The sea view was also spectacular

Review 8:The room, Really loud boiling noise from the radiator all day/night. Room was cold, Another really loud noise of a boiler across the corridor making really loud rumbling noises all day/ night. corridors where under construction but we where not informed of this when booking. Breakfast was just poor in general.

Review 9:The food was good, Service was quick, (maybe a bit to quick,) about 30 mins for a full 3 course meal from start to getting the check. It have been nice to have some time between courses to digest food.

Review 10:Everything, we were put in a tiny, dirty room. We paid 120 euro and the state of the room, no bigger than my bathroom at home, paint chipped off the walls and skirting, tiny bed and bathroom, walls all condensation, carpet torn .. It was a nightmare, we requested our money back and I will never ever stay in one of there hotels again.

Review 11:There was a lot of evidence that the hotel is in a period of transition. A lot of wiring on display.

Review 12:The front of house staff were excellent. The food was terrific and my partners coeliac condition presented no problems to the kitchen.

Review 13:Once you got off the lift on the 2nd floor, the appearance was a bit of a let down in comparison to the main floor. The carpet & general decor was a bit tired and the room didn't live up to a 4 star rating.

Review 14:The foyer and overall appearance on entering was very welcoming. The staff were very friendly and the food was lovely.

Review 15:The hotel is looking a bit tired and good do with some fresh painting especially the doors to the bedrooms. We were put into a room with a disability bathroom and this was a bit disappointing also our heating was not working. We rang reception and an electric heater was put into the room but no one came to check out the heating system or to check if things were ok.

Review 16:The hotel is in a very good location, not too far from the main town. The hotel staff were very friendly and efficient. The bar food is quite good and reasonable.

Review 17:Unfortunately when we went down to the leisure centre for a swim we were asked to leave the pool as some kids who were there at the time had an accident. It was a shame but couldn't be helped.

Review 18:Staff very friendly and efficient. The girls on the front desk gave us a great welcome. Staff in the bar and leisure centre also excellent. We ate from the bar food menu and the food was of a very high standard. Breakfast good too. I have stayed in the Talbot a number of times before. It's a great location and will certainly return in the near future.

Review 19:Had to move rooms three times and still wound up with sink that did not drain and toilet that did not refill within 30 minutes !

Review 20:Staff very friendly and helpfull

Review 21:Room not good disappointed with it Exspected it to be nicer Hope when I go back in a few weeks I might have better luck . Thank you

Review 22:Staff great everything was great only 1 thing

Review 23:Just the bedroom was too hot. We could not turn the heat down.

Review 24:The location was perfect for us.The restaurant staff were very friendly plus the food was very good.

Review 25:We were celebrating our anniversary and booked a double room. When we arrived we were given a room with bunk beds and a double bed. It wasn't a suitable room for us but they said they had no other double room available. We paid 380Eur for two nights BB and felt it was way over priced for what we got in terms of room. The door handle in the bathroom was broken and none of the lamps or sockets were working when we arrived as a trip switch had gone off in the room.

Review 26:The location was excellent. When we did ring reception about some maintenance issues our complaint was dealt with promptly.

Review 27:Poor experience in the bar where we had a bar meal: 1. Phil, bar food manager, was seldom at his post. We waited a long time on arrival in the bar, when we were several times passed by the two young bartenders who made no effort to greet us or even to acknowledge us. 2. The bar room was cavernous, draughty and cold, with no comfort, style or character. 3. We were taken to a raised section where there was some low, frayed banquet seating with tables far to high to eat comfortably from. 4. The food was acceptable, but no more. 5. I ordered a large glass of Sauvignon Blanc for my wife. A 125ml glass arrived, which at the time I did not question. 6. The following morning we waited in a long queue to pay our bill. Only two receptionists appeared to be on duty. 7. When our turn came I asked to see the price of the glass of Sauvignon. I was told it was 6.5 euros, from memory, equating to 39 euros a bottle. I queried the charge and was told that it related to a 25cl bottle of Sauvignon, which, she said, was how all individual glasses of wine were sold. If this was the case, the remainder of the bottle was never served to us. I suspect that there was never any such bottle and that the 125ml glass was poured from a 75cl bottle. I was tempted to confirm this in the bar, but left feeling that nobody really cared, other than Anne Marie.

Review 28:Comfortable bedroom with beautiful view Warm, helpful reception from Anne Marie

Review 29:Love the decor, love the atmosphere and the friendly staff. Location is excellent for exploring the town. Excellent value for money and the quality of the food is very high.

Review 30:My bedroom was right alongside the lift and I didn't sleep with the lift going up and down till 4 in the morning , the room was not sound proof the room decor could be improved especially the carpet !!

Review 31:First impression was good nice and friendly receptionist beatiful reception area !

Review 32:Room appeared suitable for a single traveller ie small bed only one bedside table and lamp but unsuitable for 2 people. Lighting in room poor

Review 33:Location easy parking food

Review 34:Bedroom was in need of an update. Wi-fi was very intermittent.

Review 35:The staff were excellent, very informative and attentive. Good food with great portions!

Review 36:When we asked if there was a room at the back away from the traffic noise the receptionist was most helpful and found us one even though the hotel was busy. There was plenty of choice for breakfast which was included in the price.

Review 37:Rooms were filthy.check in was a mess. Reception incompitent. Restaurant staff were unaware that customers were there. Sat under a freezing cold air conditioning unit. Soup was horrible but other courses were great.cant go wrong with steak

Review 38:The bar was great apart from the flies. The leisure centre was brilliant too. Staff in bar and leisure centre were good and pleasant

Review 39:Food in the bar was bland and appeared to be regenerated from frozen. The helpings were huge but not worth eating. The chips were white, the veg was plain and boiled or microwaved and the quiche sloppy. Quantity not quality. Overall the worst meal we encountered in 8 days in Eire and would be bettered by a transport café.

Review 40:Good room. Good location.

Review 41:Easy to find as lone female traveller from UK. Very nice decor. Food was tops. Room service excellent and Helen, the Receptionist was really pleasant and friendly.

Review 42:This is a super hotel - the room was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and attentive - Extremely pleasant and comfortable surroundings. Great attention to detail throughout the hotel.

Review 43:the window in the roomwouldent close so the traffic was audable asked for quiet, my husband found it a prob. think it would be handier to give your room number whne going to break fast, then finding a table. other wise good, thank you.

Review 44:food was good, room comfortable, the lift was easy to access, otherwise all was good.thanks.

Review 45:Our room was located to the back of the hotel and was noisy throughout the night, possibly the lift or the heating system was located very close to this particular room.

Review 46:Location very good. First greetings on arrival from receptionist excellent,Hotel very clean breakfast top class served by another friendly staff member,

Review 47:Something very small- The room was packed with furniture, which gave little room to move around.

Review 48:The room was cosy and clean. The bathroom was spacious and clean. The location is central. I did not use facilities so I can not comment. Unfortunately we also missed breakfast, which I believe is great.

Review 49:Enjoyed my experience one thing needs wifi to work in rooms

Review 50:Went there for a wedding well looked after all round. Was handy to everything shops etc lovely Boardwalk along the water

Review 51:The carpets in the corridors were dirty and worn. The lifts also looked as if they had seen better days. The room was very basic for a 4 star hotel.

Review 52:Staff seemed friendly.

Review 53:The chef at breakfast used the same implements to put food on your plate. IE same used for eggs, bacon, sausage etc. This gives cross contamination and vegiterians food is contaminated by meat

Review 54:The friendlyness of the staff and how they went out of their way to help you

Review 55:Air con was not working rooms too hot. Toilet did not flush in room and no one came to fix even though I advised reception. Hair dryer didn't work.

Review 56:Location

Review 57:Bedroom was very basic and dated...no luxury at all for the price of the hotel, it was way overpriced. Both of is were of the opinion this was not at all like a 4 star. Thought the overall look of the hotel was unclean and unkempt, stained carpet in corridor, unclean lobby and hotel seemed very run down, lifts, corridors, curtains in bedrooms...wouldn't have minded if the coat of our nights stay was much less...

Review 58:Gym Staff at breakfast were lovely. Breakfast was nice.

Review 59:This hotel is a popular venue for weddings in the summer so it can get a little noisy at the weekend in the early hours! But....since everyone is so friendly, you have to forgive them!!

Review 60:Good location for walking into town. Love the Ballast Bar - always a good atmosphere and varied menu of tasty food. Fast service too...

Review 61:Rooms were filthy; seriously in need of a repainting... Floors didn't look vacuumed. Stains on walls. Bathroom really grubby; stains on toilet. Iron did not work. TV was covered in kids hand marks. The price was not particularly expensive (€98 b&b) but this is NOT worthy of a 4 star rating!!! I'd rather of paid a little more and of had a clean room.

Review 62:We didn't have a bad experience but i was disappointed with the lack of fresh fruit for breakfast and also in most hotels nowadays you can usually help yourself but we had to queue up

Review 63:We thought the bar food was lovely and we ate in the bar for our three night stay

Review 64:Wet room instead of regular bathroom did not work well and water pooled around toilet leaving floor soaking wet next morning. Also holes in bath towel.

Review 65:Easily found and seaview from room was lovely. Convenient free parking.

Review 66:Hotels itself is lovely, nice location just on the edge of the town. Rooms and corridors a bit dated compared to the rest of the hotel.

Review 67:The bar was lovely as were the staff. Food was also very nice.

Review 68:lounge a bit small for number of people eating and would have liked a bit of music on sunday night as it was a bit dead.

Review 69:food was excellent ie bar and breakfast

Review 70:no hot water first day, no hair dryer after asking for one, breakfast wasn't very encouraging to eat so a bit disappointing just had toast for the first time every

Review 71:food very good quick service good staff

Review 72:Breakfast was disappointing. Bacon was fatty and undercooked, fried eggs were rubbery and overall it was lukewarm. The hotel was very busy on the night and we were surprised that no entertainment was provided to keep guests in the hotel.

Review 73:The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 74:The lift had a very bad smell needed a clean could use it but everything else was brilliant

Review 75:Brilliant stay lovely hotel fabulous staff such a pity that we couldn't use the lift as it smelled so bad

Review 76:Pool was over crowded an busy and children unruly - no place to swim and no attempt to facilitate this. Fan went off on the room all night and didn't turn off disturbing sleep and when said to staff member got response: "oh yeah got a call on that a couple of weeks ago - thought it would be fixed by now." "No we've no complimentary earplugs." So despite being aware of the problem they had come up with no solution except basically tough or you can move toe room lower down on family floor with no sea view that you didn't ask for as a solution. Not good enough for star rating. Beauty clinic overpriced. Bar and restaurant were not great.

Review 77:The beauty clinic was nice with a good choice. The room itself and the staff were lovely and the car facilities very good. View from room was excellent and bed was comfortable and room was very clean and spacious. Pillows were great.

Review 78:The room was very tired looking and not very clean (mold around windows etc). Also noticed, whilst having evening meal, that the kitchen floor was covered in scraps of food. Staff run off their feet as not enough on shift.

Review 79:The food was excellent. Good view from bedroom window. The staff were very helpful but run off there feet.

Review 80:pillows on bed very flat, and there was nail clippings on the floor near the window. looks to me as if the room was not hoovered properly. no toilet brush in toilet????

Review 81:staff on desk were very nice and helpful. breakfast was really nice and the value we got the room for was so cheap.

Review 82:There is clearly something different about this Hotel now I am not quite sure what it is ..a change of management maybe? my wife slit her foot in the pool and nobody really cared about it if I am to be totally honest in my review. we booked in April for July and when we arrived we got this shabby tiny room right over the whole air conditioning system on the roof the noise was dreadful, the receptionist told us everyone who pays for an upgrade will be looked after first so really if you book early it makes no difference as to where they put you,It's all about the money. We were strongly advised to move the next day because they knew we were paying top dollar for a dog box. Dinner was included on one night but we were luck they had one Item on the menu that both of us could eat...otherwise we we out of luck, very disappointed this was our 3rd time to stay in this Hotel and our worst to date.

Review 83:The Wifi signal was weak and there was an issue with the tv signal was some stations were not viewable

Review 84:We were able to book a last minute deal and there was free parking

Review 85:internet didn't work which was very annoying. In a four star hotel I don't expect to have to make my own toast for breakfast . I paid €35 to have my nails done in the beauty bank by the end of the day the polish had chipped off three of my nails

Review 86:Location and very friendly staff

Review 87:I didn't have a bad experience but I thought the hall ways to the bedrooms were a little shabby. The bedrooms and the rest of the hotel were absolutely lovely it was just the halls upstairs.

Review 88:The staff went above and beyond. They were very friendly and helpful and very customer orientated!

Review 89:I was given a room that had no aircon or opening window, it seemed the staff knew this, but put me in there anyway. I was sweating within minutes, rang reception, and was quickly moved to another room. I appreciate that, but not sure why you'd put someone in there in the first place.

Review 90:The problem with the non-existent air-con and un-opening window was quickly resolved.

Review 91:We booked a superior double room. Room was standard and small. And the bed was two single beds pushed together. (And not done very well) not comfortable and not romantic. We asked reception if something could be changed and they responded by sending someone up while we were out. They just remade the bed. Disappointing.

Review 92:Loved the location and view from the room. Lovely bar.

Review 93:The room was very comfortable with a great view. Fabulous pool with Sauna and steam room. Fantastic food in both the restaurant and the bar. Very relaxing and friendly atmosphere.

Review 94:The room was not great, it was very small with a tiny double bed, it was more like a large single bed.

Review 95:The Hotel was very nice, the staff were friendly and the parking was easy. We stayed one night and used the hotel as a base for visiting sights close to Wexford. It was perfect for this and at night time it was perfect for exploring the town. The staff were very friendly and the hotel had a nice atmosphere to it.

Review 96:Bathroom a bit small and extractor fan didn't work.

Review 97:I loved the leisure centre. Fabulous pool and gym facilities. I loved the restaurant, excellent food, both, at breakfast and dinner.

Review 98:For the amount of money paid, the view of an enclosed fire escape and grotty rooftops isn't acceptable. Also the hot bar breakfast food is cheap.

Review 99:I liked the staff and how friendly they were. Very nice people indeed. The facilities are also nice and the location is ideal.

Review 100:The room allocation was not satisfactory. Outside extractor fans very noisy, television reception was poor, room was basic- no air-con, no reachable towel rail.

Review 101:Having complained about original room, we were allocated another which was very good.

Review 102:Our dinner experience could have been improved upon. It was quite slow, we were not asked if we would like drinks with our food.

Review 103:Front desk staff are so helpful. Love the leisure centre.

Review 104:Floor in daughters room very dirty just like blood on floor very happy with change that was made.

Review 105:Staff very friendly. Food very good. Problem with daughters room dealth with very effectively .

Review 106:Parking a bit cramped. Breakfast was a bit chaotic and there didn't seem to be enough staff to cope with the amount of people. Don't think the layout helped much as queues for hot food colliding with people trying to get to cold food island.

Review 107:Modern, well appointed hotel in a good location. Good breakfast selection.

Review 108:The hotel room was not up to much really. We were in room 224. It is not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. (less than 1 star for me).

Review 109:Hotel is in a good location. Lounge area is nice.

Review 110:The experience of breakfast was poor. First of all you have to order your toast and tea/coffee. On two of the four mornings the staff forgot I had ordered and I had to go looking for them, but every morning I was a while waiting for the tea and toast and was finished the rest of the breakfast by the time they arrived. While the staff were always pleasant, there simply wasn't enough of them for Breakfast. Furthermore the food was greasy and tasted cheap. The gym was not particularly good. In terms of weights it looked like they had collected what they found in a car boot sale. Plus the floor was not acceptable for a gym, no rubber matting, no bounce or springs in the floor, it was like a standard floor, the same that was in the rooms. This is very very dangerous for anyone who wanted to have a proper workout as it would lead to leg injuries. Also I ordered a twin room, there was one double bed and one single bed, which meant it was awkward for us as we'd have to decide who got the double bed. The room was also quite small, and the view was non-existent, for a four star hotel I would have expected two proper size beds and a more spacious room.

Review 111:The staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful.

Review 112:Overall tired look of hotel e.g. Carpets, scuff marks, a hair dryer less powerful than a puff of wind. 3 star standard. Too expensive at €85 for B&B. Was worth €60 max.

Review 113:The bed and the bar were both comfortable

Review 114:The breakfast was luke warm and i was down early for it. This was the only bad point so overall very good

Review 115:The hotel itself was great and staff were better

Review 116:The first room we were given smelt as if someone had been smoking in it. However, on complaining, we were given an alternative room without hesitation which was in fact nicer. We were told that the hotel does have a no smoking policy throughout the hotel.

Review 117:The room was spacious with a view over the river. The food was very good, both breakfast and dinner. There was plenty of car parking space. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating.

Review 118:Sorry to say had to wait for someone to come out and serve me and others standing around feeling very foolish almost like a begger. Food was cold when served not just first day but the second day also I had to ask for food to be heated up.one women looked like she hated her job like it was an ordeal to her I felt very uncomfortable and didn't hang around to long in the breakfast area pity one person has to spoil the holiday . Apart from that we were quite happy with our stay .

Review 119:Manager was very nice and made us very welcome . Girls at desk very helpful and cheerful and very polite .

Review 120:The price was very high for 2 nights, 265 for 2 people and we were staying for a wedding, understand their was an evening meal included, but the price could be in the 200-215 bracket

Review 121:Atmosphere Rooms were well maintained Staff were friendly Central location Adequate parking Beautiful leisure facilities Great service

Review 122:while the reception area looks very nice - all the walls in bedroom and in breakfast room were very dirty - overall it is very grotty. breakfast was disorganised and was difficult to find a clean bowl in breakfast buffet

Review 123:the staff were very nice

Review 124:first room which was allocated on arrival was definitely not up to 4star standard with a terrible roof view --we were moved next day on request to a better room. and the receptionist was very helpful and understanding in organising this which compensated for our initial disappointment. .

Review 125:The public areas within the hotel are lovely but the first room accommodation wasn't great, and for a 4star designation one would expect better

Review 126:We had a very short but comfortable stay at the Talbot, the staff were welcoming and helpful throughout and most of all friendly. We will no doubt stay again in the future.

Review 127:choice for breakfast not great -If eat frys its good but i don't could do with more fruit and yogurts. Room was dated and in need of a paint job Gym not very clean

Review 128:Staff

Review 129:staff did not want to engage at the front desk, we were ignored when we thanked the staff at the desk upon departure and said we enjoyed our stay very much. But got no response. a bit of nose in the air from the two women on the desk.

Review 130:decor and cleanliness

Review 131:We were in a room at rear of hotel facing roof . There was a lot of noise from air conditioning units etc.

Review 132:Staff friendly hotel perfect food excellent.

Review 133:I thought the bar was understaffed. We went to reception to speed up things so we could place our order. The staff were working flat out.No blame in them.

Review 134:We got a very nice welcome on the desk from a local Wexford girl. Ordered some bar food which was adequate

Review 135:enjoyed the tasteful ambience of the Talbot the rooms were comfortable although as a couple would prefer just one bed. Staff were friendly and helpful

Review 136:Length of time waiting for tea & toast both mornings ...20 mins 2nd morning. Not enough staff engaged. Staff engaged were working flat out.

Review 137:Location. Very close to town centre. Good atmosphere.

Review 138:Food wasn't great, small bit of mould build up around the bedroom windowsill & shower.

Review 139:Staff were extremely helpful. close to everything. Really relaxing atmosphere.
