Reviews for No 5 Bridge Street

Review 1:Room,although very nice, was above the bar so very noisy till 01.00. Lack of mirror near plug sockets for ease of hair drying. Carpet needs a clean, some very large stains evident.

Review 2:Lovely staff, excellent food. Location good.

Review 3:The room was very small with no storage whatsoever so it was a juggling act to try and keep some degree of order. We were right on top of the bar so it was fairly noisy until closing time at 1am. This didn't matter to us as we came back late but if you're after a quiet evening in this is definitely not for you.

Review 4:Great location and staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 5:I can't find anything negative to say about our stay.

Review 6:Everything about our stay was excellent. The staff and service was exceptional. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the service was excellent even though they were having to cater for two large parties as well. The atmosphere all round was excellent.

Review 7:I loved the ambience overall, the bar and restaurant have a boutique look and feel blended with tradition , which as Winchester is an old city, was perfect. The staff were all friendly, helpful and the atmosphere had a warm vibe mixed with a trendy feel. The accommodation was the same, the rooms were decorated beautifully, minimalistic and stylish. The little touches and products that I would expect in a room of this standard were all there and were of a high quality . Great entertainment, a fantastic choice of wines and the food was delicious with a wide range of options on the menu. I will without a doubt be returning to No 5 Bridge Street for another stay, a real gem.

Review 8:I wasn't impressed that I'd paid to book the best room available (Superior King) and ended up with a decent size room but a standard size double bed. The rooms with King beds that we would have had, were all being painted. Very annoying! The place has 6 rooms and they are all above the bar, band was playing until 11:30pm, not a massive issue unless you want an early night. The band aren't the only noise though, they have an office upstairs and I don't know if it was that but all we heard were constant doors opening and closing, people talking, noise from outside glass bottles emptied into bins, cars, people shouting and walking past the builiding. It's one of the noisiest places I've stayed in. To top that, the full English breakfast doesn't come with beans and aparently they don't even have beans to offer, minor issue, but pretty poor not to offer it really. They have no parking either and didn't really seem to know where was the best place, used the multi-storey that they hesitantly recommended but it's max 24hr stay and as we were there 2 nights, I had to go and move my car out of the car park, then back in, then pay another 24hrs, another annoying issue. I would not stay there again and I would not recommend it. It's not terrible, but it's definitely not somewhere you'd stay in twice! If you're a light sleeper, book somewhere else.

Review 9:Good location, nice bar/restaurant area, styling of rooms, staff were friendly, food above average, clean. But it's all over-shadowed by the issues unfortunately.

Review 10:Very courteous and helpful staff who found a safe place for my bike and helped to return all the things I managed to leave behind. Real coffee and a cafetière in the room, nice touch!

Review 11:Obviously there is noise until the bar shuts and noise from the road - fine unless you want a peaceful early night!

Review 12:Very friendly staff, great central location, stylish establishment, lovely meal in the restaurant

Review 13:Excellent central location, but 24 hour restrictions on car parks nearby required moving the car during our two-night stay to comply so something to be aware of.

Review 14:Friendly staff and very spacious room. Great breakfast, and we had a wonderful time in the bar during the evenings with some very well made cocktails. The live music in the evenings was very good. We were glad to be aware of this before we arrived, and joined in the fun. There wasn't any hint within the hotel description, and if we had expected a quieter night this might have been disappointing. The room was very quiet after the bar closed and emptied out.

Review 15:Very noisy - but that could have been due to Halloween. Thanks for the ear plugs on bedside table they helped. Location of hotel was great. Good for car park and good for town centre. Morning staff double charged for breakfast. No parking but close to multi-storey.

Review 16:Person (man) who greeted us was excellent (owner? Manager?). Great room facilities and breakfast was fab.

Review 17:No removable and washable mattress and pillow covers. The carpet on the stairs and in the corridor and room could have done with a good clean and freshen up. The inside of the electric kettle was caked with lime scale. There was a small white curtain in the room which had gone grey from exposure to traffic exhaust fumes. We twice had to ask to have the heating turned on in the evening. The grey walls and dingy coloured carpet gave our room a somewhat grim and uninviting air. No clothing storage area. No easy chairs. No clock radio. Quite a bit of traffic noise. The tariff was rather high for what was a small and fairly basic room, although to be fair accommodation prices in Winchester all seem to be quite high. .

Review 18:Exceptionally pleasant staff. Nice bar and restaurant area, we had a very good dinner there one night. Location handy for sight seeing. Bottled water supplied daily. Efficient bedside reading lamps. Good towels.

Review 19:It is on a main road/junction and the bar is noisy (as you would expect). Ear-plugs are provided. Don't stair here at the weekend if you go to bed early.

Review 20:Lovely building, generally a very nice room. The bar and restaurant area downstairs is very stylish.

Review 21:Found the bed a little uncomfortable, and that I ordered a bottle of prosecco to be in the room when we arrived which there wasn't, and I then asked for one and we weren't given an ice bucket. The noise after 1am was still loud and other guests were shouting and swearing- we were aware it was a livley environment as stated though.

Review 22:The space in the bedroom, decor, location and toiletries. The breakfast was delicious. And love the range of drinks available at the bar.

Review 23:A little overpriced. Overall no complaints.

Review 24:Lovely room (superior double), tastefully decorated, tea/coffee facilities (cafetiere) very comfortable bed.

Review 25:Noise is a problem. On a Main Street where all pubs/bars shut at same time. Not sure if there is a taxi rank nearby but it sounded like an outside party at 2am. Due to the large rooms there are plenty of windows that seem to make the noise worse.

Review 26:The room was amazing, modern with all facilities.

Review 27:No foyer - whilst no.5 have done extremely well on marketing it is still essentially some rooms above a noisy pub. We could hear the noise until 1am on Saturday night.

Review 28:Nice location and well styled hotel

Review 29:Slight disadvantage of bedroom being above a pub/restaurant having a busy evening trade and with amplified music (though to be fair, this had been flagged up when booking, and there were earplugs thoughtfully provided on the bedside tables!)

Review 30:Friendly and helpful staff; spacious room with good modern facilities and comfortable bed; delicious food in popular pub/restaurant downstairs

Review 31:Only one gripe and I'm only being picky I had the Greek yogurt with honey which was lovely but it was served with dried banana chips which I didn't expect would have preferred fresh, it would be better to describe it as dried banana on menu,my husbands breakfast was faultless x

Review 32:Excellent room ,comfortable bed, lovely thick towels ,plenty of storage, more than adequate complimentary tea, coffee etc, lovely breakfast.

Review 33:No car park (but there is a public car park two minutes away). The room looked out onto a very busy road junction but noise was not a problem with the window closed. It might be different on a hot summer evening. Staff were friendly but pretty laid back and we had to wait at the bar for some time before someone showed us to our room. Not my idea of hotel service (they say "cool" all the time), but younger guests might think differently

Review 34:Large room, spacious and well lit with a comfortable bed. Close to the town centre, cathedral and river walks. Easy to find from the motorway. Good breakfast.

Review 35:Would like to be able to get breakfast earlier than advertised as I frequently have to be on the road by 8am.

Review 36:Lovely place, not noisy as off the main town slightly. Bed comfy.

Review 37:Traffic was quite noisy from the early hours but earbuds were provided. Unable to alter the temperature gauge in the shower.

Review 38:Beautiful building, great central location. rooms were clean and comfortable. friendly staff.

Review 39:Friendly staff, very clean modernised accommodation. Location ideal for Winchester shops, bars or access to river-side walking and sightseeing around Cathedral

Review 40:No.5 was in a perfect location. The rooms, bar and restaurant were all lovely, modern and trendy. The whole place had a very nice vibe and the staff were really friendly and attentive. Perfect for young couples looking for an idyllic stay in Winchester but with a bit of nightlife.

Review 41:There was nothing I didn't like.

Review 42:Staff were very friendly, helpful, professional and kind. The decor was lovely and the room was clean and comfortable. Would recommend and stay again. Food was also really delicious and reasonably priced.

Review 43:Our room was looking over a busy street/crossroad and a noisy bar. It was only reasonably quiet between 1am and 7am.

Review 44:The proximity to the city centre and the breakfast.

Review 45:It's noisy as you are beside the main road, but they do provide ear plugs which is a nice touch!

Review 46:I love No 5 Bridge Street and this is possibly the 4th time of staying there in room 1. Had to wait a few minutes to check in and was offered a free drink, great touch. Ironing board was provided when asked straight away. Room 1 is beautiful. Always worth booking superior room, no experience of the standard rooms but not much price difference and superior rooms are great.

Review 47:very noisy in the morning with busy traffic from 7, not cool if you want a lie-in, but they do provide ear plugs

Review 48:spacious room in modern retro style, gorgeous food and great bar downstairs, great staff, bang in the middle of town

Review 49:It didn't bother me but you can hear the noise from the bar on the weekend - that said they provide you with ear plugs and as I say, it wasn't detrimental to my stay.

Review 50:Very convenient location, reasonable value for money given the time of year, lovely décor and comfortable room. Would definitely recommend to other travellers.

Review 51:A short walk to the centre of the city. A really nice bar, the restaurant was lovely, the food gorgeous. The room was fantastic. Staff were very friendly.

Review 52:It would have been lovely to have had normal tea in the room instead of herbal and Earl Grey which I don't like. Being on the main road into Winchester made it noisy during the night when we opened the window. There seemed to be a steady flow of traffic all night. We would stay again but ask for a room at the back.

Review 53:The room was lovely-very clean and super decor. The bed was very comfortable and we received a very warm welcome when we checked in. Perfect location so near to the city centre. The bistro is delightful with a vibrant and warm atmosphere.

Review 54:Stayed at number5 as we went to watch the motocross. bar and restaurant were great. Staff was an and room was nice and bed was comfy. Top banana, will deffo visit again.

Review 55:They were having problems with WiFi.Even though we anticipated some noise, our front room was a bit noisier than we thought it would be which should have been reflected in the cost of the room.

Review 56:Decor was nice and staff very welcoming.

Review 57:The only minor niggle was that the front of the pub faces a main road which you don't notice when you're in the pub, but our room was front-facing and as we had a window open for fresh air, we heard traffic first thing in the morning. Not an issue if you have to get up for a meeting or appointment, but if you want a lazy morning lie-in, ask for a back room.

Review 58:Cosy, stylish pub with rooms above. Our room was pristine and comfortable, just right for a relaxing one night stay. The location was pretty central, a few minutes from a lovely riverside walk and a stone's throw from the awe-inspiring Winchester Cathedral. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was relaxed but professional. We decided to eat at the pub and weren't disappointed. The menu is more creative than most pubs, especially for me as I'm a vegetarian. Really inventive dishes such as chargrilled tofu on a bed of baba ganoush and chickpeas in chilli tomato sauce -- excellent.

Review 59:The hotel is right on a roundabout making it incredibly noisy (the hotel provided ear plugs!) The room was very small. So small that there was no wardrobe/chest of drawers/anywhere to put clothes away apart from a coat rack.

Review 60:Good shower

Review 61:Friendly staff who quickly dealt with the check-in. Comfortable, clean, high quality room with all the facilities you would need. Very effective shower!

Review 62:The hotel was located near a busy road, which meant that it was constantly noisy. Friday was live music, which may be nice for young visitors but it was too loud and didn't stop until 1am. Plus, staff was not particularly friendly.

Review 63:The design of the rooms

Review 64:the room suffered from traffic noise when to windows were opened for ventilation

Review 65:very roomy bedroom and comfortable. The bathroom was very clean and modern

Review 66:Lots of noise from the road including very early in the morning (5-6). No air-conditioning or fan, so the windows have to stay open. No bath.

Review 67:Very centrally located, seconds from the high street. Nice bar downstairs and surrounded by good restaurants. Reasonably priced car park just over the road. Stylish decor. Fantastic shower.

Review 68:Breakfast tasty but expensive, £11 for coffee, small cooked breakfast and orange juice!!! Had 2 cappuccinos in the bar cost £5 for tiny cups. Not good value for money.

Review 69:Staff very friendly, our room was spacious with good facilities. Good location and multi storey car park close.

Review 70:the room was so nosiy due to being on a road and the music from the bar. we had to check into another hotel as it was so noisy. Do not book a room here if you want to sleep at any point.

Review 71:staff were very friendly and it was close to the centre of town.

Review 72:Nothing

Review 73:Warmth and helpfulness of excellent staff. I stayed with my wife and adult son. I was revisiting the city after studying there nearly 60 years ago to receive an honorary degree. Our stay was the icing on the cake.

Review 74:Unfortunately it's far too expensive. The room was too warm and it had a small bed, these can be overlooked but the noise from the bar was just too loud. The floors shook with the vibration of the sound system until 1am. This is explained on the website but the cost doesn't reflect the quality of sleep we got. We also had some trouble with another guest trying (repeatedly) to access our room at about 2am. This can't be helped by the hotel itself but our overall experience wasn't the best unfortunately.

Review 75:The check-in staff were really attentive and friendly. The waitress on the Sunday morning for breakfast was lovely, too. The staff made this place and the management should be impressed by them!

Review 76:The shower took time to heat up. Our room was not made up and we were not provided with fresh towels on the second day.

Review 77:Spacious room with pleasant decor.

Review 78:The volume of music was so loud, the bed may as well have been in the bar. Small room, with very small bed. Given the price of this place, we expected much better. Would not recommend it.

Review 79:Food in the restaurant was fine, but not amazing. Nice breakfast the following morning, although you have to pay extra for it.

Review 80:The room was very expensive for what was offered, we stayed on a Saturday night and it was extremely noisy you could hear the music from the bar very clearly that went on to midnight so if you want a quiet night stay somewhere else

Review 81:The staff were helpful and friendly

Review 82:The room was far too hot and so we had to sleep with the windows open. It was noisy in the street

Review 83:The room was nicely furnished and very clean The chap who showed us to our room was friendly and professional. Central location

Review 84:We did read the reviews that it was noisy but we didn't think it could be as noisy as it was. Although the music was loud this wasn't really the problem, it was all the noise on the street. The cars driving past and everyone who was out on a Saturday night.

Review 85:The room was nice and spacious and was just what we needed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good!

Review 86:Firstly, I have to say my meal was delicious with a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout the restaurant and the rooms themselves. Strong and hot showers. The room was beautifully decorated in soft greys and white. Crisp clean linen too

Review 87:Essentially they are rooms above a noisy bar/restaurant, rather than a boutique hotel, so no facilities outside room. Room came with ear plugs!

Review 88:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room lovely and great size.

Review 89:Fan in bathroom faulty, so paint peeling off the ceiling. Would have said something but only there one night. That's the only issue so not bad at all.

Review 90:Rooms very spacious and well decorated. For winchester on New Year's Eve I thought it was a good price. Staff very friendly

Review 91:The room was small however we were only there for one night so for that it was fine, the bed was comfy and the shower facilities were great.

Review 92:The staff were welcoming, kind and very helpful. They helped us with the local area and gave us all the information we need. The building itself was stunning to walk into, the bar was clean and was nice to sit at.

Review 93:Request an extra pillow.

Review 94:The friendliness of the staff was lovely throughout, the food was excellent and the location was perfect. We will most definitely be returning to Winchester in the near future & hope to stay at No.5 again, if we are not fortunate enough to get a room we will certainly visit No.5 for the amazing food :)!

Review 95:Too noisy Service poor - waitress forgot to order breakfast even though there was only one other table occupied when we ordered so not busy Cold shower and shower head needs descaling (Room 4) No parking Expensive in comparison to other venues in that area

Review 96:Food was excellent Bedroom was very clean Location

Review 97:When I arrived my room wasn't ready even though it was half an hour after the check in time given, so I had to leave my bag and go straight out to my appointment without changing. Also the door of the shower wouldn't close and a strong smell of cigarette smoke drifted up from the outside smokers even though the window was shut. There was ground coffee but no pot to make it in and no instant as a substitute. It was Halloween night and the thumping music was just below my room, I didn't realise there were earplugs available as due to late arrival after my appointment I wasn't given any information about the facilities. I had an early start the next day and had asked if breakfast was available before 8, was told this was ok but the chef didn't actually arrive until 8. The staff tried their best to sort everything out and I was given a discount but all these problems spoilt my stay in Winchester.

Review 98:The staff were friendly and helpful, the bed was luxurious and the breakfast on the second day was good.

Review 99:Room far too hot and the only way to cool it down was having the windows open ... then very very noisy so sleep constantly disturbed.... if this was sorted out it would be a great place to stay.

Review 100:Central location

Review 101:No.5 was a lovely place to stay. We spent a Saturday night there and the atmosphere & cocktails downstairs were amazing. The staff were friendly, the room was spacious, clean and comfortable & the breakfast delicious! Would definitely stay again.

Review 102:My voice mail message a few days before was not returned. The disco on Saturday evening was supposed to end at midnight but went on considerably longer - whilst ear plugs were provided they were not sufficient to allow me to sleep.

Review 103:The room was excellent but quite expensive.

Review 104:Delivery Vehicles Under The Bedroom Window Very Early In The Morning. Half of The Bathroom Lights Did Not Work and Despite Informing Staff This Was Not Put Right. Very Creaky Bed

Review 105:Good Breakfast Helpful Morning Staff Pleasant Room

Review 106:Not enough info about dropping off & where to park. Actually v convenient if you only have little luggage, 24 hr parking v useful. Showers need non slip mats & grab rails please.

Review 107:Placed v near City centre, easy going, staff friendly obliging, rather French in style, straight off the street. Enjoyed breakfast watching city waking up for work! Menu choice seemed to suit all of us.

Review 108:Tiny room #2. Unbelievable music noise from bar, though we were warned in blurb. Breakfast not included and very expensive. Took 15 mins to find staff member to check us in

Review 109:Location and elegant fittings

Review 110:- Loud traffic from the main road from 4:30 AM onwards - Superior room was in fact two single beds pushed together which was quite uncomfortable

Review 111:- Friendly staff - 24/7 night porter - Spacious rooms

Review 112:Had an excellent sleep in a room on the Main Street. Being a city everything came to life at 5am. The secondary glazing did not keep the noise out completely but ear plugs were supplied. I didn't specify a back facing room so would not complain and actually a 5am wake up was just like being home with my spaniel, he wakes me at 5 anyway, so it was nothing I was not accustomed to! In spite of this I would book again.

Review 113:Was recommended in Sainsburys mag article....Breakfast was excellent, bed delicious and room was very comfortable. Mid week bar service extremely good, staff friendly and courteous. Would go back again? Yes, tomorrow.

Review 114:We had to depart at 7:30am for a local event but were unable to have a cooked breakfast before 8 which we had paid for additionally to our room £11 per head. However a breakfast of museli and yoghurt was left out for us, just a little disappointed.

Review 115:room was very nice, spacious and with all the essentials, hair dryer, tea/coffee, temple spa toiletries. Nicely decorated and a lovely shower.

Review 116:The price appeared excessive for what is ostensibly a room in a pub albeit a fashionable, attractive and well run/managed pub!

Review 117:The location is great, the room was spacious and the bathroom nicely done. The staff were very friendly and helpful and everything was well organised and well executed.

Review 118:number 5 is as it says.. a noisy pub and has heavy traffic out side, not worth the price, or should include a full breakfast. Wouldn't stay again for that price

Review 119:Good location nice pubs in the area, number 5 is as it says a noisy pub and had heavy traffic out side, not worth the price, or should include a full breakfast

Review 120:It was roasting hot. I think some heating was on elsewhere in the building and it made the room very uncomfortable. We went prepared for noise so that was not too bad. Had hoped to enjoy the 'acoustic' set on the first night but it was very loud and not acoustic and not very musical.

Review 121:Big comfortable room, nice furnishings and good service.

Review 122:My room (no5) absolutely stank of smoke, as if someone had been smoking 40 a day in there for years. Even having the window open all day and night didn't help. The comlimentary toiletries were not replenished for the second night, even though they were virtually empty. There is a lot of noise from outside (and sometimes inside) making it hard to sleep well, despite the earplugs provided. It could be hard to find someone to serve in the bar, because the staff were overstretched and trying to run three businesses effectively (hotel, bar and restaurant).

Review 123:The staff were, largely, very friendly and helpful. The room was attractively done and the shower was fantastic. The location was also brilliant.

Review 124:- no cabinets in the room at all (!!!) - located at busy roundabout - not too close to city attractions - pricy (as is everything in Winchester)

Review 125:- friendly staff - good restaurant and English pub - nice old original building - courtyard - small (only handful of rooms)

Review 126:DJ playing till 2am, finding our room had ear-plugs in it and these did not even cover half the noise. No sleep until gone 3am once drunks had left building and stopped shouting outside window. Do not come here at the weekend if you want to sleep!

Review 127:Restaurant and bar were good

Review 128:Traffic noise - the room was very warm but we couldn't sleep with the window open as the room was directly over a roundabout. The breakfast was over-priced.

Review 129:Pleasantly decorated, large room. Comfortable bed.

Review 130:It could be quite noisy in the late evening with people drinking in the courtyard outside. The free Wi-Fi was a bit complicated!

Review 131:The size of the room, the shower room, the free toiletries etc., the tea and coffee making facilities, the friendliness of the staff, the location .....

Review 132:I booked the hotel for a couple of friends who were helping cater at my wedding. I paid in advance in order to make things easier for me as I would be very busy however upon arriving my frinds were charged AGAIN as the hotel couldn't find proof I'd paid! I have now paid almost £500 for a two night stay! I have since e-mailed TWICE in order to obtain a refund and have been ignored. Do not stay here... Poor service and The staff don't know what they are doing.

Review 133:Located on the busiest of streets and wedged between 2 pubs (one being downstairs) you will be lucky to get sleep. Had to be up early for a race and it didn't help having bass under your bed and next door until 1am

Review 134:Central location and good size rooms. Very clean and comfortable bed.

Review 135:It can not be avoided that our window was over the main roundabout into town! It was very noisy! It was very hot during our stay and windows needed to be open!

Review 136:Loved the attentive staff! Enjoyed our room, it was well equipped with luxurious towels and linen!

Review 137:Our only suggestion would be to add a mirror above the desk.

Review 138:LOVED the atmosphere upstairs and down. The staff were lovely. The design of the rooms is very appealing and we enjoyed a great meal in the pub.

Review 139:Traffic noise due to lack of secondary glazing on one window Worn furnishings, cracks and peeling wallpaper No after hours service Friends had filter coffee but no cafetiere Staff less than attentive at times Overhead shower that didn't flow properly

Review 140:Large room Comfortable bed Bar

The Fine Print

Guests are advised to book a dinner table in advance. Please note that there is live music in the bar until 01:00 on Friday evening and a DJ until 01:00 on a Saturday evening.
