Reviews for Leenane Hotel
Review 1:We loved this hotel because it was so welcoming, comfortable and not clinical in any way. Perfect location, fabulous view. Not pretentious in anyway. Just fantastic Irish hospitality.
Review 2:A one night stay was all I had here. Every year I drive from westport to clifden, but this point Leenane is Unforgettable place, simply beautiful.Location of hotel is very good.Hotel staff are welcoming and friendly.Overall, a very pleasant stay and good value for money.
Review 3:N/A
Review 4:Loved this place . Great food and lovely setting for exploring Kylemore Abbey and Westport House . Views from our balcony were breathtaking . Will be back ,meet some lovely people there . Staff very helpful Food was excellent and not expensive .
Review 5:The beauty of the view, the lovely old building, the gorgeous open fires and the peaceful, large residents' drawing-room. Management was more than helpful when I had a difficulty which was not their fault.
Review 6:The location of this hotel is amazing. We enjoyed a great stay with friends - the staff were friendly, the food was great and there was a lovely atmosphere in the hotel. We especially enjoyed sitting by the fire with a hot whiskey after a day exploring Connemara!
Review 7:Conor and his staff are fantastic! Older but classy hotel. The view of the Killary Harbour was great- amazing watching the tidal waters ebb and flow. Great location for exploring the Connemara area. Galway only an hour away. So good we extended 4 more days. By the way, great food as well as great Irish music on two nights during our stay.
Review 8:No elevator
Review 9:Beautiful view over the fjord, cosy bar with local fresh food and a very large room with bath + shower. Welcoming staff and full Irish breakfast or salmon.
Review 10:Agnes, the receptionist was so helpful, changed my room to accomodate both me and my pets. Seaweed baths are spectacular and Mary was pleasant and gave me great local info to find a beautiful beach closeby to let my dogs have their walk. Another bonus was discount for baths as a hotel guest. Food in the bar was delicious and good value, music later in the evening also. Breakfast served by Aidan was extremely good, plenty of choice and great quality. All staff were most helpful . I would highly recommend this hotel
Review 11:We felt the menu was limited and could have offered more choice. We are not fish lovers!
Review 12:Location, staff friendliness, warm temperature of hotel rooms and value for money.
Review 13:A couple of vegetarian options would be better. We ate in both nights so had little to choose from.
Review 14:Not knowing at the time of booking that our stay coincided with the festival celebrating the anniversary of the making of the film of JB Keane's 'The Field' in the village. View of Killary from bedroom - and the little balcony standing out space! Seaweed bath! Great value for money via Booking.com
Review 15:Cannot fault anything or anyone
Review 16:This hotel offered not only a superb location for Connemara, at the top of the Fjord, but splendid views and a Dinner to die for! Our tight schedule prevented our wish for more time, but will certainly revisit.
Review 17:Wonderful food. Large comfortable room on first floor as we had requested no steps. Room had full length glass door that looked over the water. Very kind and helpful staff.
Review 18:Breakfast was the only let down Plates were cold which meant that the hot buffet went cold in minutes.Brown bread to die for.
Review 19:Dinner was amazing especially any of the seafood dishes Atmosphere in the drawing room was extremely relaxing
Review 20:nothing
Review 21:The location was amazing and the hotel and food excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful. wish I could have stayed longer but will def be back.
Review 22:Lovely fires in both the lounge and the bar add to the old-fashioned but comfortable ambience of this hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. Beautiful location.
Review 23:Didn't like: the cubby-hole nature of the reception desk; the outdated feel to the place; the brusqueness of some of the overseas staff (which came across as unfriendly and unwelcoming and un-Irish); the non-availability of soya milk (despite having requested it at booking - does anyone check these requests and follow up?); the biggest practical problem for our stay was the lack of a lift (elevator) anywhere, so carrying cases up & down stairs etc. was a necessary nuisance. We wouldn't stay again.
Review 24:Liked the location, size of room and wardrobe, open fire in large guests sitting/lounging area. Stayed 1 night.
Review 25:There was nothing I didn't like about this hotel! I can highly recommend it.
Review 26:The rooms at the front of the hotel had a fabulous view and the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Review 27:Was not sure how the Boil Notice for Leenane impacted on the water in the hotel, so did not drink any. Could see no notice in hotel about it.
Review 28:The location is ideal for touring the rest of Connamara. The staff were very sociable and went out of their way to help. Prices were reasonable and the overall price for two nights with breakfast and evening meal was excellent.
Review 29:The hotel used to have an order and serve system for breakfast but have now turned to a buffet type system. Not to my liking but I am sure its there because the hotel was so busy.
Review 30:The location is excellent and the staff are friendly and helpfull and the food is excellent.
Review 31:Our room was in the old part of the hotel which we liked, however it could do with a little bit of tlc
Review 32:Hotel had character and a friendly atmosphere. Staff were professional, courteous and helpful. Reception rooms were very welcoming with fires lit in the evening. Food was very good. Views magnificent
Review 33:The breakfast was not great, especially the the self service toaster. There was a line forming to toast bread. The outside needs a bit of a face lift
Review 34:The location is great The staff lovely We had a really good room
Review 35:Would prefer if wifi was available throughout the property, rather than just in public areas.
Review 36:Great location and views. Comfortable and clean. Friendly staff.
Review 37:This is a proper old-fashioned coaching inn style hotel, but big enough to feel as though it had a lot of life in it, from live music in the bar to people gathered round the roaring fire in the drawing room.
Review 38:The hotel is in one of the most beautiful places in Ireland and the hotel itself does not disappoint. Staff were fantastic as was the food. Quite simply a great few nights and I am looking forward to returning.
Review 39:We were not offered help with bags when we were obviously struggling. Yet, the next day a family checking in was offered help. In the hotel restaurant, we discussed gluten free options, ordered a gluten free option and the plate came with breaded entree. Lots of apologies, but no attempt to make good on the missed-step.
Review 40:The view and garden across the street was spectacular! The staff were very friendly and somewhat accommodating. The second night we were there the staff lite the fireplace and lots of guests came into enjoy the comfortable chairs and couches. We met a lovely couple who advised on upcoming travels. Very nice!
Review 41:There was a hole (plugged) in the bath and the taps on the sink were loose. This was just the same as last year when we stayed in the same room.
Review 42:The location was fabulous
Review 43:Lovely place, nice atmosphere. Great view on the Killary fjord. Lovely lounge with an open fire in a friendly ambiance. I would recommend as well the sea weeds baths provided, with is a great way to relax after climbing the Croagh Patrick
Review 44:The bedroom needs some attention - windowsill was dirty. Toilet /shower room not up to scratch - big crack in wash hand basin.
Review 45:I loved the easy relaxed atmosphere. The weather wasn't good so it was nice to be able to sit by the fire in the lounge and read. The food was v good.
Review 46:If I'm being picky the bed and pillows where a bit hard! But that's personal preference really!
Review 47:Beautiful location with stunning views over the fjord. The Room was perfect for our needs. Food in the hotel was delicious and fresh and local produce too! Great time spent here.
Review 48:All staff were very friendly and welcoming and the room looked out over the fjord, stunning views. The room was spacious, with a comfortable bed and bathroom. The restaurant was very good, with excellent staff and a varied menu - really enjoyed both evening meals I had there and breakfast had an excellent choice. A useful touch was the display of the weather forecast on Reception which helped the planning of activities.
Review 49:The only downside was on our first night we had to wait an hour and a half for our evening meal, we thought our order had been misplaced.
Review 50:The location of the hotel is ideal. There are beautiful walks and cycle areas. The scenery is majestic. The staff were friendly and Pauline the receptionist is wonderful. The breakfast and evening meals were good.
Review 51:Nothing wrong with the hotel, the terrible weather was the only thing to complain about.
Review 52:Beautiful location, very comfortable, friendly staff, excellent food.
Review 53:Rooms need updating. TV from 1990s, mounted too high on wall. Needs new flat screen TVs and new built in room fittings.
Review 54:Superb location and excellent breakfast.
Review 55:We loved everything! We loved the food, the staff and of course the view! The old hotel is like putting on a pair of comfortable slippers...comfortable, no flashy plastic and chrome (fortunately) and the lounge area with all the big leather arm chairs is great! Can't remember too much about the bedrooms, a result of copious amounts of Guinness! We will be going back..
Review 56:I didn't find the staff very helpful when I called them about my jacket, which I left at the hotel. I definitely left it there, but they were unable tofu d it and I had to call them twice to elicit any response
Review 57:The location and the room were very comfy
Review 58:Would have like the room to have been on the ground floor as my dogs found it hard to manage the stairs. We had to carry one up and down the stairs. There is no lift
Review 59:Clean and comfortable room. Good food and friendly staff.
Review 60:We'd like a better menu for evening meals with more variety and better prices
Review 61:The room had a beautiful sea view best peaceful no noice staff very helpful
Review 62:Carpets in bedroom was stained. Maybe it had been cleaned but discolouration remained but the stain looks bad.and I was suspicious. A pity, really. Still one night was fine.
Review 63:Breakfast was very tasty. Bed was comfy, view beautiful . Lovely comfortable living room/seating area downstairs.
Review 64:Gateway to Connemara Loop and National park. Connor and the entire staff were warm and friendly people. Five star accomidation for 3 star price with majestic views!
Review 65:Brekkie was fine but a bit messy. Their black pudding was way too overcooked.
Review 66:Loved the big living room and the fire - the perfect place to curl up and read a book. The view from our bedroom that looked out across the fjord was also stunning. Dinner in the hotel was excellent - much better than the restaurant up the road in Leenane ( the Blackberry I think it's called - v.expensive for what it was, not worth it) Pop into Gaynors pub for an after dinner drink in a cosy atmosphere. You need a car to explore but there's so much to see and do in the area, it's great!
Review 67:Wifi was quite poor. As the mobile phone reception is very poor there, it make reliance on the Wifi more important.
Review 68:Staff we friendly and very helpful. Food in the bar was very good
Review 69:There was just the balcony door for ventilation in the bedroom- but that wasnt a big issue for us- quite nice to wake up to the curtains blowing into the room. Also we noticed that some of the rooms were very small indeed- just room for the bed ¬ much else. Quite expensive for such an old fashioned hotel. Just a note to say we had a seaweed bath- which was wonderful- was very surprised that there were no seaweed products for sale- would have definitely purchased some if I could.
Review 70:We got a family room -there was just the two of us-which was perfectly adequate- bed very comfortable. Breakfast was very good-plenty of everything & a good enough choice- cereals, usual cooked breakfast, cheese, yoghurt, croissants- couldnt fault the freshness of all. Staff all friendly & helpful. Everywhere was kept very clean-though hotel needs decorating.
Review 71:Evening meals were excellent and restaurant service was both efficient and welcoming. Restaurant staff were always so pleasant and courteous. By contrast, breakfast was mediocre in terms of food.
Review 72:We loved the location of the hotel and its relaxed and comfortable environment. The welcoming atmosphere made our stay both memorable and very enjoyable. Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel as a lovely place to stay in Connemara.
Review 73:Wifi was not good in the room. Hate the way they cook a fried egg here, it should be possible to get a soft fried egg that is cooked lightly on top.
Review 74:Receptionist was great, helpful and friendly. Pretty nice place to stay, great location.
Review 75:The location is just fantastic! The view was beautiful! The hotel is very nice and quiet. A perfect place to relax. Also the food in the restaurant was lovely.
Review 76:Not much you can do about the Irish weather, unfortunately it rained for our whole stay. Some of the local tourist attractions are very over priced, I would have loved to have gone zip wiring in the adventure centre with my son, but the price was ridiculous so I avoided it.
Review 77:The location is spectacular, surrounded by amazing scenery, no matter where you go from the hotel. The food, the bar, the staff and the room were all very of a very high standard, the treacle brown bread is beautiful, I came a away with two loaves to bring home.
Review 78:No lift to the top floor where we were located. A pool would be lovely.
Review 79:Staff so helpful-made us feel at home right away. Wonderful views over the water.Food of the usual high standard.
Review 80:The TV was poor with just 2 or 3 channels
Review 81:Our bedroom was in the newer part of the hotel. If we had one of the old rooms we would have been very disappointed. The view from our room was spectacular a la Lake Como
Review 82:We ate at the hotel one night. One of the party is a vegetarian - there was only one veg option on the menu. There had been a mix up with the menus and we were offered the wrong choice and then the meal that arrived was basically just a bowl of pasta covered in cream. When we mentioned to waiting staff they were unaffected.
Review 83:The room was spot on. Very clean and bright with lovely view over the fjord. Good sized bathroom. The communal areas were also a good size and well thought out. Gentleman on reception was very friendly and helpful. Fish was excellent in the hotel restaurant
Review 84:Breakfast was self service and despite having a good choice, the cooked breakfast and plates could have been warmer.
Review 85:Staff very pleasant and helpful. Room was comfortable and quiet, if a little dated. Competitively priced though.
Review 86:There could be a room safe facility for credit cards, cash etc.
Review 87:Overall, enjoyed it all Will definitely stay again. The staff in the dining room, particularly on our second night could not have been more helpful and efficient; well done.
Review 88:Our evening meal was poor and was the only blot on our visit to an wonderful stay
Review 89:The location is absolutely amazing Bed rooms adequate, beds comfortable, carpets a little outdated However it was great value for money as we got a special deal.. Staff were friendly and very helpful Breakfast was excellent
Review 90:Building needed up dating.
Review 91:1) The hotel was build in 1800 there is a sense of history and the staff at the hotel were extremely warmhearted, cheerful and helpful, especial MS. Agnes at the reception desk. However, the place is a little rundown. 2) the restaurant attached to the hotel is excellent and the service is good. 3) Breakfast is self-service; a little confusing since the dinning-room is so large and the food is not the best quality.
Review 92:Not enough time to enjoy the local area.
Review 93:Can not fault the Hotel..reception busy at times. Staff ware checking upcoming bookings in the back office. and had to get their attention for service. otherwise We Can not find any.faults Even Harry our 2yr old Golden retriever like it.
Review 94:The hotel has fantastic views across Killary Lough and is only about 10 minutes, easy walk, to the centre of the very small village. The staff are friendly and the place had a nice atmosphere. I'd stay again.
Review 95:Cleaness had a lot to be desired the toilet was degusting and the bathroom was not cleaned or maintained well
Review 96:Stunning location just set across from the fjord and mountains
Review 97:There was nothing to dislike about this hotel.
Review 98:The location was perfect for a relaxing break & the scenery was spectacular. Great walks in the area & the seaweed baths was just wonderful. Definitely a place to be visited often during the year. Hotel had a friendly atmosphere & staff were kind & very helpful.
Review 99:I didn't like having to leave the Leenane Hotel or the Leenaun district of Connemara.
Review 100:Everything was more than 100% - service, food, room, view, ambience, value for money. This is the one hotel out of my month long trip to Republic of Ireland that I recommend to any one who wants to enjoy the luxury of a top class hotel for the cost of a three star hotel. Amazing value. The position of the hotel is the best - beautiful walks, drives, stunning scenery ...
Review 101:Not enough vegetarian options in restaurant and bar. Only one vegetarian meal on menu all week and it was the same dish.
Review 102:View from window was amazing, peaceful and beautiful mountains and lough. Lovely staff.
Review 103:Nothing
Review 104:Trad music in the bar very entertaining The food was lovely and very reasonable The view was outstanding and it was really tranquil. The locals were so friendly and stopped for a chat. We had a lovely stay.
Review 105:No pool or fitness suite. Although you could swim in the fjord and the roads and scenery are perfect for cycling, walking or running.
Review 106:Great value and service. Room was lovely with a great view over the fjord. Service was relaxed but attentive. On Saturday night we had a snack of sea food chowder, sandwiches and chips. There seemed to be no difficulty getting whatever we wanted even though the Bar menu had ended.
Review 107:The hotel takes on a large number of groups/ people and the service Is not 100% up to that. We were told it was not necessary to book a place in the dining room for supper, only to be given the last small table in the furthest and noisiest dining room....
Review 108:The beautiful landscape surrounding the place
Review 109:The bathrooms were a disappointment. We had two rooms and I think it's safe to say that this one area lets the rest of the hotel down. Fix this one aspect and you have a gem if a hotel experience.
Review 110:The old world feel is very authentic . . The dining room and day room are beautiful . . The bedrooms beautifully updated with fabulous views of the fjord . Dinner was superb !!! and The setting spectacular
Review 111:Everything was too our satisfaction except the weather!
Review 112:Old style Hotel that is an ideal bolt-hole from the stresses of modern life. Nice peaceful place in an idyllic location with helpful staff and excellent food. It is the second time we have stayed at this Hotel and we will return. The brown bread is great!
Review 113:staff unavalible after 8 pm and doors dont unlock till 8 am so ifyou want to take luggage to your car you get locked out
Review 114:the spa next door with hotel discount was wonderful breakfast the next day was awsome aswell shopping was good and location was very convient
Review 115:Scrambled egg not great (overdone)
Review 116:Room good and big Bathroom clean and big shower with plenty of hot water. Nice meals and bar facilities. Very friendly and helpful staff
Review 117:Dinner was great, my husband and myself did not expect good quality of dinner. However the steak was excellent, it grilled well. I really wanted to be relexed and the hotel and environment was the best place to do nothing.
Review 118:ease of coming and going, proper breakfast and good evening menu/food. good sitting/reading room with comfortable choice of seats. ease of accounting, checking out.
Review 119:Although the buffet breakfast was tasty, when we were in there it was organised chaos. They kept running out of things - we heard people having to stop staff and point out that the bread had run out, there were no bowls for the fruit, there were no eggs left, no condiments etc. we also had to seek out the waitress to request coffee. Fair enough, they were produced when asked for but I think there should be somebody making sure these scenarios don't arise. I had a fry up and it was delicious but a full Irish breakfast it was not. An Irish breakfast without soda bread and potato bread is like bangers and mash without the mash! We didn't get up for breakfast the second morning. We were a bit put off by the service plus the bed was too comfortable
Review 120:The view from our bedroom window was stunning looking up the fjord. The bed was really comfortable and the room had everything I needed including tea/coffee making facilities. We had free wifi in our room - we were in the new part of the hotel so I'm not sure if it's available throughout. The breakfast was really tasty. All of the staff I encountered were perfectly friendly and we were made to feel at home in this old country hotel that has real character. It's not a boutique hotel. You doesn't have the crisp, brand new feel that you get in some hotels. If you want that, stay elsewhere. If you want to feel comfortable, at home, in a place soaked in history then you couldn't do much better than here.
Review 121:Not a "bad" experience but the room lacked comfy chairs, space for clothes and space in the bathroom for the host of female accessories
Review 122:Bar and restaurant service
Review 123:Floodlight shining on room throughout the night
Review 124:Within easy reach of spectacular scenery. Reception staff excellent but some others could do with some extra training.
Review 125:Beautiful location, very warm and helpful welcome from Conor, lovely rooms and views, clean, gorgeous old sitting room to relax in, great breakfast, couldn't ask for more! thank you
Review 126:A pleasant hotel in a lovely location by the shores of a Lough. The room was perfectly adequate, comfortable and clean, but maybe an update would have added a bit more character. The staff were helpful and friendly, and there was a cosy bar and nice restaurant.
Review 127:Wifi was poor and it was breaking a lot.
Review 128:It is a clean, well run place that does not pretend to be anything that it is not. Would def. stay there again if I find myself back in Connemara.
Review 129:Staff need to cheer up a bit, felt like the hotel was in mourning for something!
Review 130:Location, location, location, and the room and food was great as well! Fantastic value for money and will try to get there again!
The Fine Print
