Reviews for Hotel Mathios

Review 1:Bed was upstairs which was challenge to climb up/down (but I think there might be rooms with bed not on extra floor) and shower could be bit bigger. Other things were good. We missed parties at night e.g. 1-2x per week but on the other side you can sleep without music playing all night so it's pro&con at the same time. :) Hotel was overally good value for money and I will recommend it for sure to friends/family as a good choice.

Review 2:Nice quiet location, we got free upgrade to better room with sea view, clean, we loved the swimming pool and pool area to relax or eat. Few steps from hotel on the other side of a road is amazing caldera sunset view. Multiple nice beaches are very close to the hotel. As well Akrotiri port when we got easily to popular white/red...beaches. Hotel staff is nice, they advise, provide maps etc or book the trip for you. We took a trip with small speed boat and it was lovely. Supermarket is right next to hotel and except hotel restaurant by pool there are some other with caldera view around the hotel. We had car since we landed which I recommend and parking was good infront of the hotel or few steps on the other side we found free spot every day.

Review 3:nothing!

Review 4:Fantastic place! First week of August my girlfriend and I stayed in the Mathios Village for our holiday, the place is wonderful and welcoming. The position of the Village in Akrotiri is perfect to go to the beautiful beaches and to visit the characteristics villages of Santorini. Thanks for all to Kostas and Popi!!!

Review 5:Me and my girlfriend had 2 great weeks at Hotel Mathios. The staff were absolutely fantastic! Vassili, Kostas and Popi are all extremely helpful, kind and fun! The hotel and its rooms were really nice and clean. Really close to the pool and its nice pool-bar, with the best waiter Vasilli! We had a great vacation and can really recommend this hotel for others who will visit Santorini. We'll come back someday :)

Review 6:No water in the room and when we to buy some from the hotel bar they had one small bottle we arrived late and we're very thirsty. As we were thirsty at breakfast we wanted water and when we went to poor it there was some sort of algae that came out. Breakfast was very poor and there weren't enough tables and chairs. To top it off there was a sign saying if you are around the pool bring back your plates and there's a few to eat in your room I thought that was quite rude. Provide enough space. The owner runs a travel agency as well. He's a bit over the top controlling everything to do with prices so when it's busy it's a long wait. He also pressures you into making a decision very fast probably has something to do with his prices being higher than every where else ie on transfers and car hire. He actually gave me anxiety. We went for this and paid 60euro more due to the reviews we should have gone to the others and saved our sanity and $$$

Review 7:Beautiful building and good location to akrotiri ancient archelogical site

Review 8:Small room for the price...

Review 9:The hotel is like a small club, around a beautiful swimming pool. The boss takes care of his custumors. He's a very good saleman... but he's very nice and reliable too.

Review 10:My boyfriend and I have just returned home from a wonderful stay with Kostas and his family. I already want to go back. From the minute we arrived he offered us a warm welcome. He helped us with car hire and booked us on a fantastic trip for our last day. The perfect way to end our stay in paradise. He also offered tips on other amazing places to visit. For example the lighthouse to watch sunset a truly magical experience and Eros beach. We only ate in the restaurant twice as my boyfriend and I like to get out and about but both times the food was exceptional. And the daiquiris out of this world. Our room was clean and comfortable and we had a lovely view over the pool. I had a wonderful time and couldn't recommend the hotel highly enough.

Review 11:They forced me have breakfast in the mid-night, and entered the door unpolitely by hotel key. Because i will check out tomorrow earlier than their breakfast time. And they refused my proposal, either to refund the breakfast cost or prepare a breakfast box for me. So terrible experience.

Review 12:none

Review 13:The wifi-connection was quite poor during all day long. The location is a bit off, but no problem if you rent a car or other transportation.

Review 14:The food at the restaurant was excellent - loved the tzatziki and fetacheese! Nice, clean room. Great pool!

Review 15:Can't relax with kids as there are a lot of rules Can't eat breakfast on verandah only by pool Pool bar isn't open all day. Half board you can't choose from a menu which isn't any good when you have fussy eaters but the food is good and plentiful.

Review 16:Good location for fantastic views and near to caldera romantica restaurant which is amazing. Value for money. Very clean. Would recommend for couples but not for families with children as it is a quiet location so you feel you can't relax if they have fun like kids do.

Review 17:But don't judge a book by its cover. The staff lied to us multiple times, the internet did not work and when it did you had to be by the pool or reception area. I rented a car from the hotel, paid cash and provided a carbon copy of my credit card and they charged my card for another day. This is after the staff told me they called and said the car was returned. The restaurant even charged us for bread!

Review 18:The hotel looks nice

Review 19:The internet was quite slow. The breakfast is good but no fruit.

Review 20:The pool is fantastic, the staff and the manager very good people. Extremely clean place. The manager always at your service. Vasilis is excellent.

Review 21:The owner of the hotel tried many Times to sell us services at very high prices (transfer to airport, car rentals). He was not honest and we didnt like it because we felt like it was always à pain to ask him about anything. He was not in a mind to help us but to make money out of us. The breakfast was extremely bad (not a lot of choice and the food was not Fresh but frozen) Overall, i dont recommend this hotel due to high prices and bad services

Review 22:The room description is false, in booking said that we had views to the garden or to the pool but my room had views to the road with a lot of traffic in the ground floor. I said to the owner and he told me that we had a flower in the balcony and he didn't change our room. He told me that he searched a better room, but for a "friendly" extra-price! And then he did nothing. In the room we neither had wifi that booking said. The owner told us it was breakdown.. The last day we had a cockroach in the bathroom and owner told me that it was because We opened the window and the cockroach came to the garden! (We hadn't got a garden...) The worst was the last chat with the owner, he was prepotent and he told me that he had a lot of clients and he don't need me, that he had people in the door pleading a room.. The restaurant is poor and we ate the first frozen potatoes in Grace. Also, The owner is like a merchant wich want to organice your holodays with the only target to win money without quality.

Review 23:The pool

Review 24:1. They will email you to ask you to cancel the reservation from booking.com, and ask you to pay by cash to get a discount, but if you say no, they will not reply you again when you ask some other things. 2. They are running a travel agency at the same time, and will try to convince you to purchase tours and rent cars from them. I rented a automatic Smart from them with a higher price than other companies, which they PROMISED to be a NEW one. When I received the car, it is 76,000km already, and I need try 2 or 3 time whenever I want to start it. Also the level shifting is not smooth at all. What I can do is just drive very very careful to make sure I will not die during my holiday. When I try to argue it, the guy from the hotel told me the car is new, because it can move. Also, the bus stop is only 20 meters away from the reception, they will try to prevent you from taking a bus and convince you to call for a taxi from them.

Review 25:Far from town so it is quiet. The pool is good and food is not bad. The bus stop is only 20 meters from the reception

Review 26:A very friendly and extremely helpful team of staff headed by the owner Kostas who not only immediately sorts any problem has a fountain of knowledge to make your stay memorable on this beautiful island.

Review 27:Kostas Papalexis "The Man" and his wonderful staff. Day dreaming at the beautiful, clean pool & relaxing enjoyable dinners under a starry sky, we could not have asked for more. The quiet village of Akrotiri proved to be a much appreciated haven after our daily scooter rides around the Island´s busy towns. We pretty much left our brain at the entrance, happily letting Kostas take care of everything, as he knew exactly what we needed for a perfect 9 day holiday!! Cant wait to go back.

Review 28:Avoid road side rooms. If you wanted set meal, advised to be at table at 7pm. Breakfast selection sufficient but unchanging, no fruit. Fitness room needs newer equipment.

Review 29:Away from towns in quiet location, needed hire car, good pool. Value for money set meals. Sunset viewing from across road, beach (with SCUBA companies) very close. Owner very friendly. Very clean.

Review 30:Very friendly and helpful staff and a jolly owner/manager.

Review 31:Outdated hotel, next to the road. Even as you pay 100€ per night, they make you pay for swimming pool towels. Globally overpriced.

Review 32:The owner was a little over bearing

Review 33:Beautiful small family run hotel

Review 34:IT was amazing stay here.Costa is very helpful and friendly guy.

Review 35:The owner was rude and irrational.

Review 36:Not in a busy area but a short drive to Fira & Oie. Peaceful & Wonderful place with amazing staff & service. Will definitely go back.

Review 37:The smoke coming from other guests outside came into my bedrooms

Review 38:Hard work everybody did

Review 39:The breakfast is very simple for the price paid and the furnitures are very old. The swimming pool was dirty.

Review 40:The situation.

Review 41:Many rooms have terraces facing rather noisy street (many cars and quads passing by during the day). And we got exactly one of these rooms. In general, we are travelling a lot (business and private) and are rather relaxed about different conditions at the hotels. So the location was not so much of a problem. This was actually unimportant aspect compared to the quality of services offered at the hotel and attitude of the hotel manager Mr. Kostas towards his quests The hotel welcomes its guests with very long lists of “don’ts” for the swimming pool area. Mr. Kostas will be your friend as long as you order additional services from the hotel and eat low quality food at the hotel restaurant (no selection). As soon as he realises that you prefer service providers outside the hotel you will become a public enemy. The hotel manager has also very annoying habit of keeping guests identity cards/passport for the duration of the whole stay. When we asked to get our documents back he told us to move out of the hotel (which we did not do as we felt entitled to stay in accordance with our contract made via booking.com). The stuff at the hotel is visibly scared of the manager. The hotel is not customer oriented at all. We met a nice couple from Germany that needed to send two page fax to their country and had to pay 12 euro for that. We also had bad luck as during our stay on the island there were constant shortages in energy supply what further resulted in lack of water. Things like this happen and the hotel could not of course prevent it. However, we would expect at least clear information for the guests what can be done in such a situation, what the cause is and how long it will last etc. Last but not least, we would consider selection at breakfast absolutely sufficient but the problem was that many products were constantly missing. The official breakfast hours were from 8 to 10.

Review 42:The hotel is located in a very nice place on the island and the pool area looks exactly like it is presented in the pictures.

Review 43:Everything was beyond expectations, I liked this place, it has personality and I had a great stay (it was so nice that it was difficult to convince myself to get out of the hotel and see the island)

Review 44:It is a very stylish and elegant place, kept very clean by the people who work there. It has a very relaxing and friendly atmosphere, unlike the chain-hotels out there. It pays off to have a room with a view, the place is simply beautiful. Loved spending time in the pool in the morning, the water was clean and it did not smell of chlorine, which was great. The hotel is near the bus station so it was very easy to move arround the island. The manager, Costas, takes good care of his guests and makes sure they have a good stay. (shared with us some great Greek music, too). I only wished to have stayed more, it was the best hotel I have ever been to.

Review 45:Medium Breakfast, the "superior room" was a very normal double room, not big at all. We was asking for a double bed and we had 2 single beds.

Review 46:Very nice complex, with 2 clean pools. The common area is very confortable and a nice place where relax. Good restaurant. Staff helpfull.

Review 47:It was the first time ever I had a problem with the booking made through booking.com. I booked the room with sea/pool view and they offered me the room at the ground floor looking to the road (actually 5 meters from the road). When I complained manager Kostas screamed and told that he does not sell veiws, he sell rooms. and the price I booked the room for is the minimum for the hotel and I can have only this type of room. He offered me add 200 euro and have better option or leave the hotel in nearest 10 minutes. It is absolutely impossible to find any vacant room at the 15th of August in Santorini, so we added the money and got better room. Another problem was the breakfast. It is actually very poor, they even do not have a toaster to warm the bread. Only vegetable was tomatoes and only one type of ham.

Review 48:Our room had a nice balcony and view to the pool and church. The overall atmosphere is very calm. Garden and hotel design is very pleasant.

Review 49:I enjoyed my stay here and would like to thank Mr Costas, Mina, Vaslis and all the staff who are very friendly, hospitable, hardworking and professional. The food was tasty! The location was perfect too. Its not in a crowded area, so you can enjoy the peace and quiet, but its close enough to reach all the happening places by bus, or you can get your own vehicle and drive around on your own. Would love to visit again!!

Review 50:No fresh fruit at breakfast! No fruit juices or fruit drinks at that cafe/ bar. could provide pool towels.

Review 51:Nice pools. Nice court yard. Nice view from balcony in suite rooms and private. Nice cafe.

Review 52:Did not enjoy food. Breakfast was always the same - bread cheese tomatoes, biscuits and hardboiled eggs. Dinner was a set meal -very average and with no choice. We went to Perissa to eat most nights even though we had paid for meals. No entertainment in Akrotiri in the evening.

Review 53:Clean airy room with lovely views. Always clean towels and sheets. Staff always pleasant and helpful.

Review 54:A beautiful family run hotel, friendly, clean, with lovely views over the garden to the sea from the superior rooms. Good local bus service to Thia from in front of the hotel, about 15/20 mins to town,or 5 mins to the red beach. Easy to hire a car/quad bike for a couple of days through the hotel. We had half board, breakfast was adequate but would have liked a choice of some fresh fruit, enjoyed the set evening meals especially Mama's cheese pie-I should have got the recipe! Try the 'restaurant in the sea' last one on the way to the red beach- the water melon salad is exceptional! All in all , a excellent holiday- I will go there again.

Review 55:It is very nice hotel people are friendly, good price, clean, the owner Mr. Kastas very help full, he arranged the trip to the volcano irland and arranged renting a car I would like to recommended his hotel

Review 56:I have arrived at Hotel Mathios early in the morning and I was absolutely exhausted but the warm and accomplice care of Mama made me feel as if I had come to a friendly haven. When you are travelling all alone, those moments are priceless. During the stay, Mr. Kostas always did its best to make my stay not only in the hotel but also in Santorini, remarkable! Always care and helpful! I spent not only 3 nights but 5! The hotel has many facilities and the room was very confortable, spacious and with a balcony. It is well located in a quiet place but it is easy to reach the Akrotiri center in 2 minutes walking. There is also a bus stop to Thira and the pharos is also close (amazing spot for sunset). I really enjoyed!! THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!

Review 57:I definetely think a better shower and better towels would make a difference. Also we went of season but the breakfast was poor among a few things it included spam and canned fruit, no pastries, cake or fresh juice.

Review 58:The staff and owner are very welcoming and great hosts. Kostas, is a knowledgable business owner that will make sure you get the best service possible. We had a rental car delivered to the door and great pointers of what to do during our stay. The place is clean and has character.

Review 59:breakfast thin walls "the so-called" rules

Review 60:the owner the willingness of help the clean pools and the food the owners advices

Review 61:The owner of the hotel mr Kostas is a great manager Great hospitality Nice place Good stuff Perfect ideas

Review 62:Breakfast selections, parking facilities

Review 63:Quit and peaceful, pool area
