Reviews for The King's Head

Review 1:Staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. Stayed in the Spitfire suite which was extremely comfortable and clean. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious and the overall atmosphere was amazing!

Review 2:Breakfast ends at 0930... So I never got to taste it! I am not a fan of carpets but other than that all was great!

Review 3:I stayed in a lovely room with roll top bath and massive shower. I invited my family to meet me there for dinner one evening and everyone raved about the food.

Review 4:Very well kept establishment, excellent facilities and owners are lovely! Staff are welcoming and accommodating too. The games and skittles in the basement are a brilliant idea. We will be coming again for certain :)

Review 5:For New Years eve & a black tie event the music wasnt good & maybe a bit over priced as no complimentary glass off bubbles was inc in the £65 pp & then when we checked out £16 was added as a service charge!!! also where we sat i got candle wax down my back & my partner all over his suit ( which wasnt spotted til we got home) & wasnt warned about the stairs in the suite for bathroom access & having to go outside to access bar/restaurant & after paying nearly £350 for an evening/night when checking out a did you have a nice time or any problems would have been nice

Review 6:got a late deal for new years eve, so got a good price but wouldnt have paid the full going rate Food you couldnt fault for the evening or breakfast

Review 7:I was a little upset that if I had not removed the hair etc. from the shower drain, it would have overflowed. We did report it to the staff who apologised but said that they were sure the cleaner had cleaned the shower, but the proof that she had not was in the carrier bag that we had placed in the bin.

Review 8:The location was fabulous and the staff were helpful and courteous

Review 9:HOBY Room The shower plate glass needs to be carrying a form of transfer to catch the eye of a bathroom user to avoid walking into it...I have an almost identical design at home and found a German producer of birds in flight for about £15.00 apiece and have some left over ! Interested ?

Review 10:Professionally presented staff with friendly attitude

Review 11:The bathroom door didn't shut properly so the door kept opening.neither did the door to the shower, the floor of the shower was extremely slippy could do with a matt.

Review 12:The rooms were lovely very spacious, the bed was extremely comfortable. The dressing gowns are a lovely extra. The food was delicious.

Review 13:No shower, just hand held over a bath type. Also TV offered very limited channels, not even ITV or channel 4!

Review 14:Wonderful self contained flatlet - cosy and warm. Lovely breakfast freshly cooked.

Review 15:Good but quite expensive wines. Saturday night bar closes promptly at 11.00 even for residents.

Review 16:Tastefully decorated rooms n a village setting. Friendly staff and good restaurant. 10 minutes drive to Winchester

Review 17:We had phantom drinks added to our bill which we hadn't had! We were told there was a fridge in our room - no! Promised a jug of milk outside our room at 7am - didn't arrive! Alarm clock in room still on summertime and no hairdryer either! Staff were forgetful.

Review 18:Comfortable bed, tasty food, clean

Review 19:Nothing to dislike

Review 20:A lovely place to stay and if you take the evening meal you don't need to worry about driving. Very friendly staff, really nice room and excellent breakfast. Thank you

Review 21:Room above kitchen, very warm. no milk supplied with tea making facilities, no shower gel supplied

Review 22:Friendly staff with good service, excellent food and good wine choice comfortable bed

Review 23:The only negative was that our room was terribly warm, perhaps from the kitchen or fireplace below and there was no AC (we did not think to ask for a fan so perhaps can't complain!)

Review 24:Lovely cosy restaurant/pub downstairs. Rooms furnished to a high standard and the building is just magnificent.

Review 25:We loved the warm welcome. We didn't have time for breakfast the following day, so the lovely young lady provided us with marmite sandwiches for the morning, (which were delicious - thank you!) We spent the evening in the pubs lounge, and enjoyed a delicious meal. The staff were excellent. The locals were friendly too. Both the pub and the rooms are beautifully decorated. Well done everyone - we had a fab stay. Thank you !!!

Review 26:The room was hot and the bathroom radiator was on all the time. Extractor in the bathroom was intermittent. Had to sleep with the window open which was a bit noisy as the hotel is on a main road.

Review 27:The hotel is lovely, spacious and clean. The food was very good and staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 28:Great room, staff, food & drink. Was a stopover on the way to Portsmouth for a morning ferry, would now use it as a destination venue. These people know how to run a proper place! Loved it & a perfect way to start our holiday!

Review 29:Helpful staff. Very comfortable and spacious room.Good food at reasonable prices. Good quality towels and lots of hot water. Conveniently situated for our onward journey.

Review 30:No Veggie option on breakfast menu. No green tea or fruit teas offered in room. No disposable shower cap, tissues or body lotion in room. disappointing for 4 star accommodation.

Review 31:Staff customer service excellent

Review 32:nothing really but the wine list I felt was a little expensive, with the cheapest standard red wine for £21 a bottle, and a decent Chilean wine was £10 a glass!

Review 33:All the staff were very efficient and friendly, the bed was very comfortable and my room was very clean. Also the food I had was excellent.

Review 34:Not a bad criticism, but there were so many areas with steps in the Spitfire Room; this could be a problem for some guests. However it was a very comfortable room.

Review 35:Excellent staff, especially the lovely young lady who was on check-in, & she also served us breakfast. Delicious evening meal & breakfast.

Review 36:First niggle, food was well presented, however we arrived at 21.00 and ordered a main, before we booked in, the pork was nice, only potatoes was an extra, the rump steak was just that, a few salad leaves and a bowl of fries, the quality of the steak, was not the highest quality, but edible when you are hungary, not good value. We had sweet which was nice just very small potions. No milk for coffee in room, no water, would not have liked to have stayed for more than one night no cupboard space. Traffic noise not good , double glazing required. Breakfast, object to micro waved bacon. Wifi hopeless, however 4G was available. Service charge added without being mentioned prior to booking out.

Review 37:Warm welcoming staff, room was pleasant, location nice, food was well presented.

Review 38:Fabulous room, very clean and comfortable. Lovely touch to be provided with a jug of fresh milk for tea/coffee. Great restaurant; good food and service both at breakfast, and an evening meal.

Review 39:The bathroom light didn't seem to work (but then, I never reported this)

Review 40:I was extemely impressed with the assistance which I received from the staff who were, at all times, friendl, attentive and helpful. The location of the venue is very pleasant and well served by localbuses.

Review 41:Lack of choice for vegetarians for main meals. It was either fish and chips or sea bass. Both excellent, but?

Review 42:The staff were very friendly. Location, for us, was excellent. Bus stops virtually outside the hotel.

Review 43:Attitude of staff in restaurant was not what it should have been. Food was overpriced and basic. Many items on menu not available. Bar closed to residents at 10.30pm.

Review 44:Very comfortable bed

Review 45:on arrival we were given the room that we particularly did not want (5) but very nice lady upgraded us. Unfortunately that good room was at the front of the hotel so traffic noise was bad.

Review 46:Very pleasant and helpful staff. Upgraded room was good. Dinner was good

Review 47:Lots of steps to and from (and some in) the room. But that's to be expected in a very old building!

Review 48:Very friendly & helpful staff. Nice 'homey' atmosphere. Included cooked breakfast a welcome bonus when we stayed. Well appointed rooms and bathroom.

Review 49:No bad experiences at all but the loo roll needs an upgrade to bring it in line with everything else in this delightful Inn..

Review 50:More than adequate parking space and the building itself is very well presented and picturesque. You were made to feel very welcome from the minute you arrived and the staff were very sociable which can be a rarity these days. The little touches in and around the property were a joy to behold - even a blanket is available to wrap around you should our 'lovely' summer evenings turn a little chilly! Food was scrummy and highly recommend the cheese soufflé starter. You had the feeling that even if you were a very demanding guest nothing would have been too much trouble for the staff to sort for you.

Review 51:Room was very small considering the cost; lady who served breakfast was not welcoming and very matter-of-fact.

Review 52:Warm welcome on arrival; excellent (evening) meal served by competent good natured staff

Review 53:Cromwell room - Double room for 110 pounds ($165) was not a good value. Windows single paned and on main road plus bar/restaurant below wirh patrons until late. It sounded like windows open even though closed. the shower head leaked so had to put head on floor to avoid drip drip drip. Worse yet the drain was plugged so the minute we started to shower the pan filled up. Manager said working on it that day but clearly needs drain snaked by plumber. Wifi didnt eork so manager had to log each phone/device in with her private password. Fine but another inconvenience. Check in was disjointed as close to dinner time at the restaurant and that took priority. If you don't eat there (looked good but expensive- $20 for a hamburger) you pretty much have to go to Winchester to eat. Many more choices there.

Review 54:Lady and gent running the place very nice. Only 4.5 miles from Winchester. Nice looking pub and restaurant with nice garden area right there on property.

Review 55:Room much too hot and no way to cool it except via small window.road noise annoying but not as bad as people directly outside talking until late, bass from kitchen music going on until very late, people knocking at front door late, etc etc. almost no sleep

Review 56:Nice friendly staff, attractive place all through, great food

Review 57:One of my guests asked for baked beans for breakfast and was told that she daren't ask the chef for that. Twin bedded rooms were an extra £25 to double rooms.

Review 58:Beds were very comfortable, staff were very friendly and helpful

Review 59:Can't fault it really, sorry, if there was a negative I would say!

Review 60:Single room was small but adequate. Good location for my business trip and the breakfast of fresh juice and choice of hot meals - I went for smoked salmon & scrambled eggs, freshly cooked and very tasty! Love it, will stay here again and possibly dine here too!

Review 61:Orginally put in room 5 above the kitchen and backing onto a courtyard with VERY noisey extracter fans which did not turn off at night, keeping us awake. That and the sweltering heat/food smells in the room. Staff ignored our four attempts of complaining about these issues, insisting that we were wrong and that they could do nothing about the issues we were having, but eventually changed our room after much badgering on my part. Room 2 was beautiful, much cooler and very quiet and the only other room available at the time as ther guests had complained about water leaking through their ceiling and a forever leaking showerhead which even the manager refused to subject guests to. Staff seemed to take this all very personally and we were dealt with in a frosty manner for the remainder of our stay by most of them, bar a young lady who moved us into our new room who sympathised with us and said that our bill would be adjusted to take into account the horrendous first night's stay. To our suprise, when checking out, we were told to pay the full bill by the surley receptionist who refused to contact management to speak with them about it. Very dissapointing and way to much stress for what should have been a relaxing short break.

Review 62:The decor was up to date and tasteful and the location of the property was practical for day trips into Winchester.

Review 63:I booked a single on a business trip for £80. The room was the smallest I've stayed in. No table/desk to work on, no mobile signal, poor wifi. No wardrobe and no drawers. Window above the late night beer garden. Over priced and not a great experience, I've stayed in much better B & B in the area.

Review 64:Not much.

Review 65:Everything was fine.

Review 66:Nice friendly place with very pleasant, helpful staff. Very good food served in the evening and very nice breakfast - hot food cooked to order which is always better. Had a good room with excellent bathroom which included a lovely slipper bath.

Review 67:A little close to the road, which wasn't a big issue, just feel it prevents a 10/10 grade.

Review 68:Room was excellent, shower and bathroom clean and good facilities, food is very very good, breakfast excellent.

Review 69:pub food was very good but dessert menu was weak and not interesting. one small change here and it would be overall fantastic

Review 70:nicely done rooms. great location.

Review 71:Being woken up at 4 in the morning with the fire alarm going only tofind there was no staff on site and not getting comparative compensationfor being late to my appointment. No management there overnight at allworries me, one person refused to pay that nights stay and themanagement excepted that ,me I get 10% off my evening meal,REALLY Ispent £400 in three days and get £2.95 off ,not happy to what wasotherwise a really nice place.

Review 72:Good Staff ,especially Mohammed and the girls, food good.

Review 73:No phone signal at all in area for us.

Review 74:Stayed in spitfire room as last minute booking - lovely. Wish we had not eaten before arriving As pub was lovely. Highly recommend.

Review 75:We could not switch off the light in the bathroom and rooms are badly isolated, which means energy is wasted and comfort can be affected.

Review 76:A very nice ambiance!

Review 77:Beautiful property. Room was large, well appointed, quality linens and wonderful bathroom. Meals were excellent. Staff was welcoming, helpful and very nice to socialize with.

Review 78:On first glance all looked perfect but some minor details - wall socket next to bed coming away from wall and leaking shower door disappointed. Breakfast was overcooked and cold.

Review 79:We were upgraded on arrival to a beautifully presented room. Wonderful atmosphere both downstairs and upstairs in rooms. A lovely country pub.

Review 80:I was travelling for business to a campus within walking distance of the hotel, and therefore the location was perfect for me. The staff were really friendly and helpful, the room comfortable and clean, the WiFi was fast and the breakfast was great. Overall a fantastic stay !

Review 81:The restaurant menu was VERY over-priced and disappointing. The services available in the room, by way of tea (3 bags), coffee, milk (3 jiggers) etc., were meagre. In the morning, we had no milk to make tea. After much discussion, I dressed to go down and request more. On opening the room door, I discovered a small bottle of Fresh milk outside the door. What a lovely touch - what a shame we never knew! The WiFi did not work - apparently it had been like it 'since Tuesday'. At a rate of £130 for one night, I would have expected better. The bathroom door failed to latch closed (it didn't last year either) and the loo brush was in pieces on the floor when we arrived. Attention to detail is lacking. PT

Review 82:Excellent room (Kind Edward VI suite). Recent refurbishment is very good. The hotel location is exceptional. Greeting on arrival - warm and friendly.

Review 83:Shower was tired and shower head dripped all the time shower did need a good clean and tiles. And no matteess or pillow protesters. On the whole a comfortable room.

Review 84:Very friendly staff asked if wanted to take an evening meal. Excellent breakfast, room comfortable and warm as cold evening. Would stay again when in the area. Good deal on room but "what I didn't like" needs to be fixed, even at excellent value

Review 85:The WiFi did not work. The bath did not work. The TV's did not work. Did not have a mirror in the bathroom or in the bedroom.

Review 86:Staff were friendly

Review 87:Wifi kept cutting out (but I am a novice so maybe that is just me).

Review 88:Lovely decor, great ambience, nice food. Only real issue was the very newly redecorated room still smelled of paint but since they gave me a hefty discount when I went to pay the next morning I came away happy.

Review 89:The room we had was above where the disco was situated and was incredibly noisy, it was well after 1 am by the time things quietened down. We asked for a move next morning and were given the suit at the side of the KH which was again adequate for us, but again, noisy, being close to the kitchen door and a back entrance. All in all we had a nice stay with lots of good things to recommend about the KH, but the noise issue really does need looking into.

Review 90:The situation was really nice, countryside, village, good bus service etc. The KH was a nice mix of pub, guest house and restaurant. Staff friendly and helpful. The restaurant food was good, but a bit pricey! The breakfast was especially nice. Bedroom was adequate for us, clean and tidy with good tea making facilities! But.......

Review 91:Not a negative as such but hotel prices when in fact it is only a pub. Our choice however so not complaining.

Review 92:Our one night stay was excellent, very nice room with great view over the church opposite. We ate in the pub and the food was terrific, staff friendly and the bonus of live music.

Review 93:Nothing

Review 94:The room was lovely with a shower and a separate bath tub, really comfy bed. The staff were really friendly, slotted us in for dinner that evening which was delicious and good value. The location is in between Winchester and Southampton in a little village which was great for us but I think a car is pretty essential.

Review 95:* WiFi was unstable, sometimes was impossible to connect, but the problem used to last no more than a few minutes.

Review 96:* Location is excellent in the purpose of your trip is business, because is within a 10-minute walk from IBM Hursley. * Lovely rooms with big and comfortable beds. * Really good breakfasts * Restaurant service and food was also really good * Helpful, attentive and friendly staff.

Review 97:Room- not cheap- rather small and no door between toilet and sleeping area; my daughters were not impressed! Food did not quite live up to the menu.

Review 98:Idyllic surroundings in chocolate box Hampshire village; vibrant atmosphere in pub and plenty of local produce on a high class looking menu.

Review 99:The room was extremely hot even with a fan on all night.

Review 100:The hotel was quaint the staff were very friendly you could not fault the food and restaurant service.

Review 101:Room 5 was noisy because of a fan motor running on and off all night, interrupting sleep.

Review 102:The character of the property. The friendliness of the staff, nothing was too much trouble.

Review 103:WiFi was not very good. Especially in my room.

Review 104:A really nice Hotel. My room was nice and comfy. The Restaurant was good and the breakfast absolutely spot on.

Review 105:Very warm room: needed the supplied fan all night and an open window.

Review 106:The superb breakfast and cosy bedroom The staff were very friendly and helpful personally taking us to our room and recommending real ales to try.

Review 107:1]There were wheels on the main bed which meant the bed kept moving! Not very practical! 2]Steps in the suite were a little bit dangerous for our toddler!

Review 108:1]The breakfast was delicious! 2]Evening meal was delicious served in a spacious, nicely-decorated dining room. 3]We stayed in a suite which was very nice[although the steps were not brilliant for our toddler] 4]The staff were polite and pleasant5]Nice little village near Winchester with a small playground useful for toddler.6]Well-equipped suite.]

Review 109:no air con so had to keep window open all night so was disturbed at closing time.

Review 110:staff very friendly, room was lovely and big, great to have a roll top bath, dinner was great.

Review 111:Not really a negative but worth shopping around as internet prices varied - managed to get two rooms for £45 less than generally available using booking.com

Review 112:Staff very helpful Nice breakfast

Review 113:Overpriced but understand it is peak season in this area - food somewhat disappointing ..

Review 114:The location and ambience of the Kings head - beautiful village just outside Winchester .

Review 115:It was warm weather admittedly but the room was airless, needed at least a fan. With the window open the traffic noise was, to quote my wife, 'torture'. The promised WiFi was hopeless unless, for some odd reason, you were sitting on the loo!

Review 116:Good room, lovely bathroom, clean. Food very good. Staff occasionally difficult to find away from busy times but polite and friendly when found. Room staff very friendly. Geographically well positioned for Winchester and South Coast. Overall a good stay.

Review 117:Building work with tradies working below outside our room - We not prudes but constant use of F word in conversation a bit shabby. Good idea to get tradies on board with ambiance of pub. Next morning had to move car (when just served brekkie) to help tradies. Apologies from owner for this but hey !!!

Review 118:Lovely Hotel Room with History. Nice bar and eating spaces. Excellent service from girl from Zimbabwe. We preferred to have dinner in downstairs bar rather than the restaurant. We would come back as good place easy parking and view to old church very pleasant.

Review 119:Bed not changed/made when taken to room and in the rush to amend the problem only left one towel in the bathroom. Room and bathroom on different floors albeit in the same "suite"

Review 120:Good location Breakfast was ok

Review 121:The staff were friendly and very helpful

Review 122:I couldn't fault a thing.

Review 123:The staff and rooms are wonderful - a cosy well local with plenty of style!

Review 124:Stayed for one night for my partners birthday. Lovely room, lovely food, couldn't fault it. Would definitely go back

Review 125:The Kings head was beautiful and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Also the food was first class and was a reasonable price.

Review 126:Room very hot and noisy from kitchen fan. Service charge for food . Over priced for what we had.

Review 127:Location, friendly staff.

Review 128:genuine warm welcome, comfortable spacious room and a lovely evening meal

Review 129:Lovely stay, excellent food, warm friendly welcome.

Review 130:Beautiful décor, very friendly and helpful staff, great food.

Review 131:Friendly staff

Review 132:Made to feel completely welcome, super friendly efficient owners and staff. Will definitely return if just for the fabulous gins.

Review 133:Road noise
