Reviews for The Bunk Inn
Review 1:Clean and comfortable all you need for a few nights. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Lovely evening meal and breakfast next morning. We stayed at the back which was quiet away from the pub.
Review 2:The staff were absoloutly amazing, couldn't do enough for us. The room was of a very high standard, spacious and very clean. Loads of very hot water and all the plumbing worked really well. The view from our room was wonderful - fields and horses and it was really peaceful especially as it is an inn, you wouldn't know once you are in your room. The food was of the highest standard and nothing too difficult (we are gluten intoloerent). Breakfast was perfect!
Review 3:Shower room was a bit mouldy and there was a hole in the floor covered up by a board. We also had a meal on the Sunday evening which was very poor - the roast potatoes were the worst we have ever had. However, on leaving, we did mention this again to management and we were given a reduction form our main meal bill.
Review 4:Very helpful, friendly staff
Review 5:Would have liked an easy chair in the room, which could have been put in if the table wasn't so large. Breakfast wasn't great. Very small portions, no yoghurt, toast not browned at all.
Review 6:Food provided at the event during the day was very good.
Review 7:Booked a double room but given a twin. Room was a bit dark and not overly clean (cobweb in bathroom door way, heavy layer of dust along top of plug sockets, grout in bathroom shower discoloured). Breakfast (bacon and black pudding) was overcooked, not sure if it had been pre-cooked and kept warm.
Review 8:Service in the restaurant was excellent with very pleasant and helpful staff. Food was reasonably priced.
Review 9:Absolutely nothing
Review 10:What an amazing place, the setting, the setting was beautiful. Staff were friendly, funny but above all very professional and attendant when needed to be. We travelled over from Menorca and staying here had to be our best choice of hotel in a long time. We feel we must also mention the dining experience.....simply couldn't fault it. OMG the beds, sooooo comfortable
Review 11:I think for a B & B, it was very expensive.
Review 12:i loved the character of the room and the view from the window, of the horses in the fields, was lovely. The breakfast was excellent, and the staff were friendly.
Review 13:Nothing particular to dislike. We had lunch on arrival and although the food was of a good standard it was a bit on the expensive side.
Review 14:Overall a very good place to stay with a good welcome and helpful staff. The rooms were nice and big and the bed very comfortable. There was a good choice for breakfast and the food was of a good standard.
Review 15:I didn't dislike anything, but I did feel the bedroom could have been enhanced if there had been mats next to the bed. The floor was a little cold underfoot.
Review 16:We stopped here for one night en route to our honeymoon destination in Cornwall from our wedding venue in Suffolk. It was perfect for us; in a quiet rural situation, with a restaurant attached to the pub. We stayed in the Oregano room which was large, and had a lovely bathroom with good toiletries. The room was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The staff we met were courteous, friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the restaurant food, and the overall peaceful setting. The breakfast was great.
Review 17:The last time we stayed we had an excellent room , however this time we were given the Tarragon room , which really is suitable as a single , as the shower cubicle was facing the top of the bed and close to it , which meant that my wife was facing the glass when trying to go to sleep , plus the doors are very low and having hit my head quite hard it was a painful way to find out as there was no sign to say low doors. To be honest If we had to pay £120. again for this room I would cancel and demand a refund. Also although the bar menu is good there was no change in the 4 months since our last visit , so we would tend to look elsewhere next time.
Review 18:The location and ambiance of the Bunk Inn is very good
Review 19:It wasn't really clean though and breakfast was okay; had better breakfasts in other places.
Review 20:Staff is really helpful and friendly; food of the inn itself is delicious. We liked the tranquil setting in the countryside.
Review 21:Lovely, relaxing pub with great rooms and lovely food. The lady that dealt with us on our arrival, for coffee and biscuits, dinner and breakfast was very helpful. The food was great, from the rosemary shortbread with our coffee to the superb dinner menu and excellent breakfast. Definitely not your regular pub grub!
Review 22:The wifi was practically not working in our room (left one on the GF).
Review 23:Location is quite remote, but that is the point. The building is a nicely renovated old one, bit dark as the heights of the hall is around 2m (6'7''). The neighborhood is a nice garden suburb, while a forest a few footpaths are also available.
Review 24:Very quiet in a country location, but a little remote from anywhere else if that is a problem for you. Ideal for us.
Review 25:The room was very well equipped and the bed was extremely comfortable with great pillows, which is not always the case. Restaurant equally good for the food and service. Breakfast was all that you could require.. Decor is original and very smart. A very fine address!
Review 26:Lovely place to stay - the staff are so friendly and every request was met with a smile. The bedrooms are stylish with comfortable beds and because the Inn is in a quiet road the nights are peaceful. All this with good food too made for a very happy family gathering.
Review 27:Staff and management excellent. I called ahead of arrival to ask for an early check in and was greeted with s very positive reply. Also returned late at night without a key and was assisted with a smile. Friendly, engaging manager made being there a pleasure.
Review 28:Had trouble flushing loo, maybe needed a new syphon fitted, but reported to girl in reception who couldnt apologise enough and said would get repaired asap.
Review 29:The bed was so comfy, linen and pillows excellent quality.............overall a very nice room.
Review 30:They put us in a room that apparently was not the one intended and suggested I had given the wrong room on check in. They then presented a bill that was £20 more than the agreed price! Breakfast on the second day was not delivered as ordered.
Review 31:The food was good and the staff were friendly
Review 32:Booked well in advance via booking.com but when we arrived there was no booking for us. We were fortunate that there was a cancellation the first night. We had to stay with friends ( sleeping on an airbed) the second night then move back for the third night.
Review 33:Clean, comfy rooms and the staff were polite and helpful. Excellent service. Will definitely stay again.
Review 34:Bathroom dirty. Toilet handle loose. No fridge in room. Food and drink very expensive. Poorly decorated. Headboard made from old doors with peeling paint. No mobile phone signal. Had to keep re entering wifi password.
Review 35:Not a lot. Staff were pleasant.
Review 36:Nothing, this is a fabulous place.
Review 37:Everyone who worked there was friendly & helpful, food was excellent, location was beautiful. A well run pub with a relaxing atmosphere.
Review 38:This is a stunning place to stay and eat. The meals were outstanding and the staff have excellent customer service as well as product knowledge. The two together made our stay perfect.
Review 39:Ground floor room was noisy due to creaking floor boards and poor sound proofing between ground floor and first floor bedroom. Décor was OK but a little tired with some mould in the bathroom.
Review 40:Helpful staff, very comfortable bed, quiet location, flexibility with breakfast time
Review 41:The staff were wonderful and very friendly and helpful, we arrived later than anticipated but it was no problem for them. The room was clean and the bed really comfortable. The stand out point for us though was the food. It was absolutely fantastic. We will be back.
Review 42:We had a ground floor room next to a gravel car park so a bit noisy but not a huge problem.
Review 43:Spacious well appointed room, attention to detail. Nice setting. Very good restaurant, including breakfast. Useful location for motorway junction. Welcoming staff.
Review 44:there was nothing I didn't like but if I had to be picky there was dust in the bedroom and the bathroom had limescale on the glass of the shower cubicle. Minor points but something we did notice.
Review 45:Loved the rural location. The whole place had a lovely feel, really stylish and the three course meal we had on the restaurant was excellent. The twin room we stayed in was great, good size and really comfy beds. We had a fan which was great but maybe if in the summer the beds had sheets then you could roll back the lovely feather duvet when it's too hot. I would certainly not hesitate to stay here again.
Review 46:Excellent room, really well appointed. Very comfortable bed. Water provided in the room. Good atmosphere in the pub. Restaurant service good, fish and chips excellent.
Review 47:Great room shame about the noise from people walking in the room above. The creaking floor and the sound of footsteps were a huge distraction...almost painful. Could not read or watch TV or work in peace.Thank goodness the people above went to bed fairly early. But it was a stressful night until they did. Not sure I'll go back to stay.
Review 48:Quiet location yet very close to city center and an easy commute. Great meal, and very friendly Andy attentive staff. Stayed in the Oregano room, big room. Wonderful old fashion tub... Huge towels.
Review 49:Room was warm on a very warm evening
Review 50:The Bunk was a sea of tranquillity even on a busy Saturday evening. Staff were fantastic and knowledgeable. Rooms were really well appoint and the whole place was decorated brilliantly. Food was excellent. Can do nothing but to thoroughly recommend the Bunk Inn for a stay. Thank You
Review 51:Would have liked a hairdryer in the room and a few more tea bags/milk (only enough for one cup each) Crunchy gravel car park means excessive noise when vehicles arrive or leave
Review 52:Location Room excellent size and good design Good quality linen and nice fluffy towels good countryside views
Review 53:Doors were noisy in bedroom area and could be resolved with a cushion seal or similar
Review 54:Great welcome from Amanda and her team. Quite rural location and great outdoor seating for a drink or bite to eat
Review 55:Wifi didn't quite make it all the way to our room (Dill).
Review 56:Staff exceptional (one offered to go to her apartment to get some pasta for my kid in case the chef had none in the kitchen!), food really really good and high quality. Well located if you want to visit Highclere!
Review 57:Book in advance if you plan to eat in the restaurant as it gets very busy.
Review 58:Beautiful room, with a lovely comfy bed, stunning roll-top bath and private outdoor area.
Review 59:Moved room as very noisy ( creaky floorboards) from guests above us. Fine once in upstairs room.
Review 60:Very good friendly service from young woman in charge who seemed to do all the work herself!
Review 61:If I am really picky the fire doors could have soft closure as they do bang shut behind the other guests
Review 62:Food and service is great, rooms are well appointed and free WiFi
Review 63:Sadly we had to leave before breakfast started - an option of room only rate or credit towards dinner would have been good.
Review 64:We were en route to Southampton and this took us a few miles out of our way but it was definitely worth it. No traffic noise to keep you awake just the sound of birds in the morning and horses in the field when we opened the curtains.
Review 65:Shower room was tiny and food was ok - I had fish n chips ut I'm sure if I had ordered something else it would have been nicer.
Review 66:Bedrooms are nice and comfortable and the bar/restaurant is set up nicely too. Lovely setting too.
Review 67:Would have liked better blinds on the window. We were on the ground floor so people could see into the room.
Review 68:Nice sized room, good location, excellent food, good value for money. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 69:The rooms were very pleasant, & well decorated, the bathroom was nice & large. The beds were very comfortable. I found the owner very helpful.
Review 70:Cleanliness of bathroom in a tiny room not up to standard for £130 room. Weird stains on floor and grime on sealant. No bath. Shower tiny in a shoebox bathroom. Breakfast is a disorganised pretentious mess. Waitress hovered about doing very little to notice lack of supplies such as juice running out and basics like coffee over stewed in a coffee maker. Would expect fresh coffee prepared. Very limited cereal and very bad burnt toast. Not a good breakfast. Bedroom impossibly dark with a lack of good lighting to get ready to go out at night. Sadly these observations do not qualify the property as Boutique of Luxury.
Review 71:Really enjoyed the decor Bedrooms very pretty Evening food very nice with excellent service
Review 72:Once again although breakfast itself was delicious. The service and attention to detail were just off. Not a spoiler but just takes the edge off a bit.
Review 73:Lovely atmosphere, great hosts and amazing food.
Review 74:had to wait a long time for food/evening meal, cobwebs in shower and bedroom smelt"old" opened the window to freshen it up
Review 75:Staff very helpful and friendly
Review 76:Our en suite bathroom had clearly not been cleaned. It was horrible. But when it came to settling our bill the lady gave a substantial discount on the room free and apologised. It was also a bit noisy in a remote location.
Review 77:The staff were friendly, the room comfy and they served a good breakfast.
Review 78:Creaky floors and noisy pipes but part of character? Breakfast quality a little variable.
Review 79:Very friendly and attentive owners and staff. Comfortable stylish rooms with rustic feel but very comfy bed. Quiet location in the Berkshire countryside. Good evening menu, well presented.
Review 80:The staff were so friendly and helpful! The beds we so comfortable And the food!! It was absolutely amazing! We ate there both nights we stayed and we were never dissapointed!! Would definitely recommend this place and stay there again if we went back to the same part!
Review 81:As this is a B & B as well as a bar /restaurant it was quite noisey, especially if you wanted an early night, doors banging, creaky floorboards, music from bar.
Review 82:Lovely clean sheets and towels. Bed was extremely comfortable Food was delicious
Review 83:didn't get a great welcome, made to feel we were interrupting as we were slightly early although we would of been happy waiting in the bar. Wine glass in the room had lipstick on it and needed a bit more of a clean as dusty over the bed, room was nice but dark as couldn't open the blind, asked what time check out was and was told "12 but sooner the better"
Review 84:food was wonderful, had meal in the resturant and also had breakfast, serving staff were nice and friendly
Review 85:As soon as we arrived we knew we were in for a great stay. We stayed in the Oregano room which was incredibly comfortable with the amazing roll top bath. Food and staff were brilliant too. Came away and booked for another visit.
Review 86:The room was next to the stairs, and above three banging doors! Very noisy!!!!!! The pub also smelled terrible! The smell of the loos stank out the bar!
Review 87:Lovely stylish room and very comfortable bed. The staff were friendly too.
Review 88:The whole experience was delightful. The staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. Couple this with the fantastic dinner and breakfast it was worth every penny.
Review 89:Lots of noise from the room above gave for a disturbed nights sleep.
Review 90:Stayed in oregano very comfortable room. Food was good. Staff really friendly.
Review 91:As an older building, there isn't much noise insulation. So you can hear doors opening/closing, cars driving in and out all the time.
Review 92:Good food, comfy place, nice cosy decor.
Review 93:The shower was broken when I arrived. The wifi and phone reception only worked in certain places in the room. The lighting is a little dim for working
Review 94:All the staff were very friendly and helpful, sorting out the broken shower and remembering little details about my preferences. The food is excellent
Review 95:The room I stayed in (Oregano) was absolutely outstanding, the people are so caring and friendly, the food is nice as well as the selection of wines. I hope to return.
Review 96:Lack of hair dryer and the bread on the Sunday morning - think something had a gone a little wrong and anything was being toasted that the team could get their hands on.
Review 97:The food was some of the best I have had in a long time. The bed was really comfortable and the chance to have bottled water in the room made a really nice change. The log fire in the bar and a really village pub atmosphere.
Review 98:Could hear guests walking around next door and above, but no real issue if you've sampled enough local ale :)
Review 99:The room was beautifully decorated, and the bed was extremely comfortable.
Review 100:A few more easy chairs in the bar. Rooms on the dark side. The pub was shut on New Years Day evening with no advance warning.
Review 101:Food was very good especially the NYE Grazing menu and breakfast was consistently of a high standard. Warm friendly pub and helpful staff. Bathroom/shower excellent. I would stay here again.
Review 102:Getting an early breakfast seemed to cause too much trouble Would advise business customers this isn't really the place for you
Review 103:Pleasant environment Good food Easy to find Quiet location
Review 104:- Bathroom size (space between toilet and wall). But adequate. - Old house, so you hear the people walking down the hallway.
Review 105:+ Breakfast + Bed + Tea making facilities + Friendly service + Newspapers everyday + Open fire + Great location (with car) + Cozy + Very clean
Review 106:Bit dusty in the room but on the whole good!
Review 107:Hotel was lovely although the room was a bit dusty in places however the food was outstanding and the staff very friendly and attentive. Worth checking out!
Review 108:The room was very nicely decorated, bed was large and very comfy and although it was cold outside the bedroom was cosy and warm. Staff were very helpful and polite, we couldn't eat in restaurant as there was a private function on but we could choose from the menu and it was brought to the room.
Review 109:Food was too expensive, wi-fi was virtually non existent
Review 110:Location, very convenient just off the M4 / A34. Staff very welcoming, good beer and friendly atmosphere in the pub.
Review 111:It's always the little things that detract: the shower had nowhere to put soap or shampoo; the sink was almost too small to wash your hands in and needed some extra cleaning effort around the taps and plughole and the loo brush was disgusting.
Review 112:The food was outstanding and matched by the service of the friendly, helpful and efficient staff. The Inn has been refurbished delightfully in an Old England style that is enchanting and effective. The huge bed was very comfortable.
Review 113:Bath - would have preferred shower. Noise from people walking across the room all hours of the night in the room above ours!
Review 114:Staff excellent, great atmosphere, food was excellent, bed was very comfortable, liked the decor and also the fact there was parking.
Review 115:very noisy from the room above due to floorboards! Needs lamp on dressing table (oregano room) Bathroom floor gets soaked when showering, didnt bother us but may bother others.
Review 116:Room decor, comfy bed, lovely bath outstanding food! lovely staff particularly at lunch time.
Review 117:Can't think of a negative.
Review 118:Room was very clean, in good decorative order. Great room top bath in the ensuite!! Wifi free. Pub food in the restaurant was excellent and breakfast was faultless. Plenty of parking.
Review 119:Dining arrangements and standard of seating and cutlery had tried to book table in the week prior to arrival which wasn't very successful
Review 120:The welcome and helpfulness of Amanda and her staff Will definitely re visit A wonderful ambiance Thank you
Review 121:Floor noise level, from guests above our room in the annex. Maybe top floor rooms should have carpet to act as a barrier?
Review 122:Beautiful location, Beautiful comfortable room Wonderful food Friendly, helpful Staff.
Review 123:Staff were good with some being excellent. Building has a lovely contemporary style. Food was lovely. Tried orchard pig cider which was a surprise and delight.
Review 124:Stayed for 2 nights whilst going to the races at Newbury. Close to race course so very convenient. Lovely rooms and bathrooms and the food in the restaurant was very good. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 125:Excellent service with friendly, accommodating staff. High level of cleanliness and comfort. Very good food. Loving style and feel to the place. Will definitely come again.
Review 126:A little big hard to get to but made for a relatively quiet night.
Review 127:Nicely decorated and thoughtfully accessorized room with a quirky style and really comfortable bed. Desk had easily accessible outlets for chargers, etc. with great lighting. A real high def. TV with adequate choices of programing.
Review 128:Staff attitude Poor food selection Room decor, very dark.(Room 1) Roomneeds a good dusting.
Review 129:Will try and give an honest review of The Bunk Inn. Arrived at about3.30pm and told room was not ready,so had to sit in the bar while thiswas being done. The next day after being out for most of the day cameback at 4pm and found room not made up!!. Our fault apparently as we hadtaken our room key with us and they did not have a spare?.Had to sit inthe bar and have a drink again(which they charged us for!!!) while thiswas being done. We later had a evening meal and after was asked if wewanted a desert menu by a waitress who disappeared and never cameback.20 Minutes later was asked again by someone else, but by this timewe decided not to bother, shame really but thats good old britishhospitality for you! Staff attitude poor.Maybe we caught them on a badday I don't know.we know everything is never perfect, and things gowrong from time to time but getting the basics right is paramount. Weare an easy going middle aged couple who have in the past been criticalof people who moan and groan on their reviews about trivial matters.butfelt peeved enough to have a grumble about The bunk Inn and feel in ouropinion that this is an honest review.Right Rant over!! now the pluses Nice clean and spacious bathroom, and breakfasts very good, Excellent wi-fi, good parking and very good Beer.
Review 130:I can find nothing bad to say about the Bunk Inn.
Review 131:There was nothing I could find not to like here. The staff were very friendly and efficient. There was a very warm welcome. Checking in was effortless and the room was wonderful. The bed was just so comfy I wish I could have brought it home with me. The food was excellent and they were happy to tweak it to our personal preference. We only had a two night stay but it was such a peaceful setting went away totally refreshed. Definitely try this place, its a little gem.
Review 132:Shower slightly cooler than I would have preferred but just an observation, wouldn't stop me staying there again.
Review 133:Lovely room with everything we could want for our 1 night stay, staff very welcoming and friendly, nothing too much trouble. Evening meal was excellent, had to leave early next morning so unable to have the full English breakfast but a nice basket of breakfast items left outside our room so we could eat before leaving. Would definitely stay there again.
