Reviews for The Running Horse

Review 1:The bathroom had no window and no expelair so the mirror and room steamed up when taking a shower. The bed was far too soft for me and I didn't sleep well. A much firmer mattress would be far better.

Review 2:Very nice bar and restaurant. Open fire in the bar and was dog friendly which is always good. Good choice of options for breakfast. Very quiet location in a nice little village so no noise at night. Good powerful shower.

Review 3:not a lot of choice on the dinner menu and the breakfast varied in standard [maybe different cook on some days]. also no bottled beers/lagers only premium draft.

Review 4:the rooms were clean/tidy and comfortable

Review 5:TV remote did not work properly - think batteries need replacing. Early evening could hear people walking on decking walkway which leads to rooms - perhaps laying Astro turf on top of it would soften the noise. Overnight no noise at all.

Review 6:Good comfortable bed and excellent shower room. Welcome tea tray was very good with lovely biscuits provided as well. Breakfast - excellent quality.

Review 7:Not bad but a couple of staff do not have good 'greeting' and warm smiles ... or any smile.

Review 8:The way the breakfast chef helped when the waitress disappeared and him giving me his recipe for potato pancakes.

Review 9:made to feel very welcome on arrival. Room was modern fresh and comfortable. Facility to make good coffee/tea. Meal in pub Sunday night very filling and value for money, nice wine good company very relaxing after hectic day in Winchester. It was Sunday night so not to busy, beats shopping on line anyday.

Review 10:Bit grubby round shower and bathroom floor and hot room so window needed to be open and noisey wooden decking when others pass by

Review 11:Lovely bed and friendly staff and great bar environment soft fluffy towels Will be back

Review 12:The staff were very helpful, we asked for a cab number to travel into Winchester and they kindly booked the cab for us. The food in the restaurant was excellent and very good cake for money.

Review 13:Nothing

Review 14:Best shower ever. Great restaurant with good food which continued through to breakfast. Lovely room in the new section. Very quiet location but only minutes from Winchester.

Review 15:Too far out from the centre. Not a lot of choice on the evening menu. Huge dogs in the bar area making a hell of a lot of noise

Review 16:Lovely clean room with ample hot water to shower. Good breakfast menu with a very pleasant lady on duty

Review 17:Very peaceful surroundings in lovely countryside. Great room, comfortable beds, always piping hot water. Good choice at breakfast with very efficient service.

Review 18:Don't think their website shows how nice a location it is.

Review 19:Loved the location overlooking fields but close to the city centre. The food in the restaurant was fantastic. All very tastefully done with a relaxed ambience.

Review 20:Nithing

Review 21:Modern, stylish and at the same time cosy room facilities. The restaurant and pub, served gourmet gastro style, beautifully presented. The staff were impeccable.

Review 22:Main door to room was sticking at the top and there was an eighth to quarter inch gap at bottom where you could see daylight. Bathroom door had NO handle, any one with arthritis or who was infirm could have trouble. The price of the food was beyond a joke, £4.00 for a bowl of cornflakes and milk. £9.00 for an English breakfast with streaky bacon!!!! My first and last visit

Review 23:Good location, facilities good

Review 24:Very good breakfast and enjoyed the evening meal in the restaurant. A good stop over on the way to Poole ferry harbour. Rooms basic but clean and served the purpose of our visit.

Review 25:Very good breakfast, good choice of cask beer, comfortable rooms and very friendly staff. Convenient car parking on site. Convenient location for access to Winchester and Goodwood

Review 26:Bathroom could have done with being updated. Shower screen is mouldy and there is mould around the bath. The coffee at breakfast is too weak!

Review 27:Lovely hotel and very cosy room. Excellent food in the restaurant.

Review 28:A little bit out of the way but just as well for google maps!

Review 29:Lovely staff greated us with smiles when we arrived late from Heathrow. The room was very clean with a very comfortable bed.

Review 30:We were in room 1 adjacent to the larder and kitchens. Could occasionally hear the fridge in the night.

Review 31:Made to feel very welcome on arrival. Efficient check in and quickly settled. Evening meal excellent and atmosphere in the bar good as it was England v Wales. Good banter.

Review 32:Felt as if we were rush to take food order at 8pm and yet we were the last table in, we were late due to traffic no understanding of issue, did the chef want to see the Rugby

Review 33:Everything about the place from the moment we arrived was excellent, the staff were very helpful, they even made us food after the restaurant had closed, bedroom lovely, breakfast the next morning was delicious,I would thoroughly recommend this place

Review 34:The bed was devinely comfortable, the room was warm and generally finished to very high specification, the choice within the menu was not huge but again presentation was superb. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return

Review 35:I would have liked to be able to open the window further to get some fresh air to counteract the smell of fresh paint. Dinner service wasn't quick but the result was delicious.

Review 36:The newly refurbished room was attractive and comfortable and my shower was very effective. Dinner was delicious.

Review 37:Was asked to drink up in bar at 10.30 before last orders were made. Made our guests feel rather awkward and so left.

Review 38:Brand new rooms due to an extention. We stayed in 12 and 13 and it was very quiet even though a wedding party was staying.

Review 39:I particularly liked the personal touch and the fact that the staff were extremely helpful. They ordered us taxis to our venue, made sure that we had a late meal even though they were hosting a function and were happy to go the extra mile.

Review 40:Room basic although bed comfortable. Metal bits showing rust and cob webs at cring level. Door lock faulty and no offer to fix. Workmen started work at 8:30 on sat morning.

Review 41:Location and bar nice

Review 42:It was pretty cold outside (even though it was August) & no indoor heating available. Shower could have been better, when you turned up the heat you lost quite a bit of pressure.

Review 43:Nicely decorated rooms, good quality towels & sheets. Great food & excellent bread.

Review 44:Had to leave

Review 45:What is there NOT to like. Peaceful location, great service, spacious room with good wifi, extremely comfortable bed, spacious bathroom. Annex attached the local pub/restaurant. Attentive staff and great food.

Review 46:A wonderful renovated pub with accommodation at rear and plenty of parking. We stayed in 14 different places, all were very good but this little place outside Winchester was terrific. good country air.

Review 47:We were exploring Winchester and needed a taxi- buses to the village run infrequently & not on Sunday! Small quibble- its just a quick hop if you're driving.

Review 48:Lovely room in chalet-style accommodation outside of the pub building. Warm, friendly staff and delicious breakfast with plenty of choice. We had dinner at the pub and food was great!

Review 49:We waited an hour to be seved our evening meal although we had made a reservation. It was a sudden warm and nice evening with more guests than expected and the restaurant was clearly understaffed. When we pointed this out the next morning the administrator was very sorry and gave us a significant prize compensation. Some distance to Winchester city.

Review 50:Wonderfull large and nicely decorated rooms. A very quiet, green and beautiful area, Out door restaurant with a lovely scenery.

Review 51:only one veggie 'option' on main course. We didn't fancy it so had bread and cheese, not a great meal for a treat.Breakfast tasty but big empty space on the plate where they would have put the meat if we ate it! I suggest you start doing a veggie breakfast, loads of places do, or at least fill the spaces in with another mushroom or another tomato.!

Review 52:lovely staff, lovely set up altogether.

Review 53:Limited choice on dinner menu. Some items not available occasionally even on such a limited menu.

Review 54:Food at dinner was very good. Very tasty and well cooked.

Review 55:Breakfast room was lovely but self service cereals etc very limited. Hot breakfast was all there but average quality.

Review 56:The separate chalet style rooms were actually a pleasant surprise. Characterful and quirky finishes in room.

Review 57:As a Hotel, Pub, Restaurant it attempts to be a Jack of all trades and is unquestionably a master of none. Noisy fans into the wee small hours. Large but curiously stuffy rooms, the temperature of which it is hard to control. Faux 'Old Tymes' décor, indifferent Beer, (all part of the same chain) limited choice of indifferent Lagers. Unhappy juxtaposition of the beer garden with the Chalets leading to idiotic locals laughing like Hyenas late into the night.

Review 58:The staff were friendly and helpful. The meals were quite good and reasonably priced.

Review 59:Lack of attention to detail, rooms not cleaned each day, poor experience of dining of first evening!!! Meal over cooked should not have come out of kitchen!!

Review 60:Rooms ok, nice pub, nice people

Review 61:On arrival they hadn't read comments from booking.com. So our room had feathers which my husband is allergic to. The lady did go and change bedding etc. the bar offered us a drink whilst we waited and charged us for the privilege !! Poor variety of drinks, wine expensive and served us a more expensive one. When our friend mentioned it, they did offer to change or deduct money off which they did. Breakfast menu given to us then we were told no porridge when I asked for it. Surely you would tell guests before they go to order!! One friend breakfast was cold, when she mentioned it to waitress was told it's only just come out of the pan. Staff had attitude.

Review 62:The area. Would not sty here again.

Review 63:Friendliness of the staff; spaciousness and luxury of the restaurant; the excellent food; rural location; excellent access to Winchester; free broadsheet newspapers.

Review 64:The hot water in washbasin was barely tepid, but hot water in the bath was scalding! Lavatory had a dodgy flush. Wardrobe in initial room was inadequate but was moved into family room on request.

Review 65:Privacy and space. Room heating was efficient and wifi signal was good.

Review 66:A mini fridge would be fab. But that's just a minor thing!

Review 67:Such a deal for the price, lovely interior of rooms and comfy bed. The food in the pub is great! Highly recommend the included breakfast. Staff are friendly and the pub is very inviting and cute. I'd definitely come back again.

Review 68:Room was a little cold on arrival as it the radiator had been turned off, probably the previous people who stayed in the room but it was quick to warm up. Really minor point and did not affect the overall pleasure of staying there

Review 69:Staff were excellent and really friendly to the kids, treated them as little people and spoke to them not over them. Breakfast was great and the room had ample space

Review 70:Very warm welcome great food lovely real ale nice room what more do you need would stay again and already recommended to friends keep up the good work guys many thanks Steve potter

Review 71:Shower pressure really low Breakfast not good at all, which was a surprise as the evening meals are good.

Review 72:Room was good clean and we'll furnished. Nice rural location Staff nice.

Review 73:The shower water could have been hotter, It was only warm There was only one chair in the room, 2would have been better

Review 74:The pub and restaurant were very warm cosy and welcoming. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Situated in a very quiet area. Tasty breakfast and comfortable bed. We would stay there again

Review 75:Off season price just a bit too high. Loo in our room did not flush.

Review 76:Warm and friendly log fires. Staff excellent. Food good accommodation comfortable in a pub away from shops in a nice village

Review 77:The room was really nice. The place was well presented and friendly staff. Great place to chill and unwind. The menu was different but thoroughly enjoyable

Review 78:The friendly greeting. The obliging acceptance of our request delivered without fuss. The excellent food and drink. Refreshing simplicity of place and care. The genuine smiles.

Review 79:The water in the bathroom was not very warm, our last morning there was no hot water, we had a freezing cold shower, not what you expect when paying top room rates. I did mention it to the staff but all we were told was everyone must have been showering at the same time.

Review 80:Warm welcome, stylish accommodation, good food. My partner liked the good selection of beer.

Review 81:limited non-cooked breakfast options

Review 82:style and space in room in-room refreshments good shower comfy bed quiet cooked breakfast options nice countryside location pub is very nice inside

Review 83:Booked in for £80 but, got a twin and cant stand single beds. Couldnt get a double. Accom is like wooden sheds with decking outside which meant all traffic outside was reall noisy. Shower was almost unusable and xomplaint was juat a sincere apology. Found a sock under bed. Staff were really welcoming and extremely friendly. Linen nice and mattress good. Pub is lovely and food excellent but, this couldnt make up for negatives... sorry.

Review 84:Had booked a room for 4 people and paid for it. Then we had dinner for about 80,- pounds and paid for it. In the morning we have been 10 minutes late for breakfast and they told us they keep to the rules so we did not receive breakfast from them. Only10 minutes. This is why I do not recommend the place.

Review 85:heater took an hour to get warm (in october you're cold for an hour!) the little bin in the bathroom wasn't cleaned when we came, also not the second day (so still stuff there from earlier guests)

Review 86:room looked nice, dinner and breakfast are great. good choice also for wine. quiet place.

Review 87:We cannot think of anything wrong!!

Review 88:My husband and I with our son and his wife and young daughter had a lovely time attending our sons graduation the running horse was an ideal place to stay in every way. The food was delicious, the staff attentive and our granddaughters needs more than met. Thank you all. Cordie and Ken Tett

Review 89:The breakfast was poor. Portions were tight. Scrambled egg was vile - it was puree.

Review 90:Rooms was very clean but very family oriented. Not suitable for a young couple.

Review 91:No complaints at all

Review 92:A little gem tucked away in the countryside but not far from A34. Beautiful location and tastefully decorated with wonderful ambiance. Great food from friendly and efficient staff, would definitely stay again

Review 93:Breakfast Bacon was streaky expected back! Black pudding was crispy burnt Disappointing

Review 94:Convenient for touring and visiting Winchester Lunch was excellant

Review 95:Lovely old country pub, but with brand new and up to date rooms in an annex at the rear of the pub. A delightful place to stay and not far from Winchester. Excellent food in the pub too.

Review 96:We had to rush breakfast - as we had an early moving in slot at the University (8.30am) and breakfast is served from 8am on Sundays - whereas in the week it is 7.30am, which would've been more convenient.

Review 97:Beautiful decor inside - someone has great style. Delicious (if rushed) breakfast. Nice, quiet location and only a short drive into Winchester.

Review 98:The bedrooms were a little bit basic but nonetheless clean and comfortable.

Review 99:All the staff could not have been genuinely kinder or more helpful than this incredible team of colleagues. The evening meal was excellent and so was the breakfast. The atmosphere in the bar and restaurant warm and really welcoming to humans and canine's!

Review 100:Breakfast was slightly uncomfortable due to the chefs constant loud chatwith the waitress!

Review 101:The rooms were spotlessly clean. Bar & restaurant staff werevery friendly

Review 102:Couldn't spend longer.

Review 103:Peaceful location.Clean and comfortable. Restaurant is great as is bar. Breakfast was first rate. The staff while friendly were very professional, Tom could solve any problems that arose and Becky was the best.

Review 104:Small gripes - I prefer back bacon to streaky at breakfast, maybe would have liked the choice. Not a lot of hanging space for clothes.

Review 105:All of the staff were amazing - really friendly, helpful and efficient. Room small but everything was good, even a cafetiere and proper coffee!! Great food at breakfast and dinner.

Review 106:Minor issue, single beds were high and quite narrow, I felt vulnerable! Next time I'll have a double bed!

Review 107:Excellent décor excellent staff great food what more can one ask for!

Review 108:Can't think of anything. The restaurant was good but not outstanding

Review 109:The chalet style rooms were delightfully decorated. High quality beds and linen. Nice touches with fresh coffee in the room and good biscuits. Excellent breakfast.

Review 110:Early check out times and the noise of children playing in the pubs beer garden early in the morning.

Review 111:Individual rooms with direct access from the carpark. No need to go through the main building if return late. The staff were pleasant and everything worked well.

Review 112:Cant think of anything

Review 113:The lay out of the pub/restaurant was very comfortable and the beer garden was excellent. The cabins were well equipt and very comfortable. we would certainly hope to return

Review 114:Early check out

Review 115:Lovely room, spacious, lovely decor, good bathroom, nice own entrance (no need to go through the pub), lovely breakfast (best salmon and eggs breakfast I have ever had!)

Review 116:I had asked for a cot and it wasn't in room but within half an hour one was provided.

Review 117:Fantastic room, food and atmosphere. We were made to feel very welcome and everyone was very accommodating.

Review 118:I found the food to be a little bit pricey and maybe a few cheaper options would be helpful. However our breakfast was very tasty.

Review 119:The staff and facilities we found to be excellent, the room was very clean and comfortable. It was a lovely friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I would recommend it and will definitely stay again.

Review 120:Lack of clean towels - they literally rehung your towels each day and one day Didn't even bother to clean the room at all There is no air con and you only get complimentary water for one night of a five night stay ? Wonder why ?!

Review 121:Location and pub were great

Review 122:This is not a criticism but more a suggestion- the fried Camembert would have been that much nicer if served with quince paste.

Review 123:Staff were very accommodating. There was no remote in the room. As they did not have a spare they offered their laptop which was unnecessary. They were more than generous in adjusting our bill for our inconvenience. Other staff were also helpful and attentive with drinks and dinner

Review 124:Could have had a little more selection on the cold buffet table, eg fruit juice/water and fruit, but we still enjoyed the breakfast

Review 125:Good location, but also very quiet. The rooms are tastefully modern and new. Individually cooked breakfast. Would look forward to staying again.

Review 126:Homely rooms Lovely friendly pub Yummy breakfast

Review 127:Room cleanliness less than adequate. Previous guest's nail clippings on carpet beside bed had not been vacuumed.

Review 128:Lovely meal in restaurant.

Review 129:Very friendly, relaxed and comfortable atmosphere great base to visit Winchester. Will definitely stay again.

Review 130:Price

Review 131:Lovely place lovely food excellent staff maybe a little over priced
