Reviews for Fairlawns Guest House
Review 1:The hotel was spotlessly clean. Our room was very comfortable and although the hotel was full we were not disturbed at all by noise from other residents(even closing of doors). The location was perfect with just a short walk into town.
Review 2:Felt genuinely welcome and consistenty treated well over 3 days stay. Very clean but not in a uncomfortable way. Good car parking and excellent breakfasts. Provided with local map on arrival and "where to eat" guides plus front door key if out until after 23.00.
Review 3:Excellent from start to finish. Easy parking. Big, warm, clean room. Comfortable bed. Modern, clean bathroom... All the facilities you'd expect in a room. First class breakfast with good service.....
Review 4:We were totally surprised by Banbury. What was going to be a brief stopover on our way back to the South turned in to a fabulous night in this small town with a great atmosphere and interesting history. The B&B was comfortable, clean and affordable and the proprietors gave us some useful information leading us to a fabulous old pub for dinner. We would definitely stay here again.
Review 5:We were met with a very warm and friendly welcome. The room was spacious, warm and clean. Ample Parking for all the cars. A lovely breakfast (full english), in a breakfast room with ample space between the tables. Nothing was to much trouble. Everyone was very friendly.
Review 6:We stayed in a chalet, No.16 and the bathroom door was SO noisy! A squirt of WD40 wouldn't go amiss
Review 7:Extremely helpful, knowledgeable staff, making us feel very welcome. They booked taxis for us and printed off maps of the local area, recommended the best places to eat. Very clean well appointed room. The best Full English in town!!
Review 8:The owners were extremely friendly and helpful. The service at breakfast was excellent and the choice of food was excellent and well cooked. Our room was clean and tidy, what more could you want?
Review 9:I had breky on the run... asked for a bacon sandwich. Was nice, but not sliced! So struggled to eat whilst driving. It's just me being picky!
Review 10:Location excellent. Staff very friendly.
Review 11:Would have liked a bath but that's just me
Review 12:Friendly, helpful staff . Lovely fresh cooked breakfast. Made to feel very welcome nothing too much trouble
Review 13:Lovely place - great location, really friendly people there, good recommendations for restaurants and places to have a drink. A really enjoyable stay!
Review 14:Cheerful &very helpful staff , made my wife and I feel very welcome . The room and the rest of the premises gave an overall view of being well looked after
Review 15:Room was perfect size for us travelling as a family ... Breakfast is excellent staff really friendly!!! Definitely stay again when we visit friends again
Review 16:Room was clean, with all the facilities I required. TV, Good Free Wifi connection, Clean ensuite, and good bed. I was at the back of the building with a separate access which was good as I returned late. Quality for the price.
Review 17:what a great guesthouse, we were made to feel very welcome by Alan, the location is great within 10 minutes you are in the town centre, he gave us a restaurant to visit , it didn't disappoint . we will definitely stay here again ,ask for room 18 , you get your own garden .
Review 18:very stuffy room, couldn't have window open as ground floor room and road noise extremely bad. Bathroom had unpleasant drain smell and toilet seat moved when you sat on it!
Review 19:Within walking distance of the town. Staff very pleasant. Good breakfast.
Review 20:A great one night stop over for us but would be happy to stay longer. It seemed as if we were the first people to stay in a completely renovated room. Very clean and smartly decorated everywhere.
Review 21:Breakfast wasn't a bad experience, but the cooked breakfast was disappointing and poor by comparison to the previous bed and breakfast I'd had for a few days before in Oxford for the same price (their B&B was just as clean and the staff, just as helpful). I didn't like the tinned tomato, rather than fresh, that there were no mushrooms, and that the egg/beans was served on soggy toast too rubbery to chew (much better to serve without the toast and the guest use the dry toast offered separately).
Review 22:Did like the fact that my car was close to my room. The staff were very personable and ready to help. There was a general air of competence around, and evidence of intelligent understanding of what is needed when one is away from home.
Review 23:The shower in our room was either boiling hot or cold, I couldn't seem to make it work.
Review 24:Wonderful friendly welcome. Good breakfast. Comfortable bed. Clean room.
Review 25:Road into Banbury is rather steep.
Review 26:An impressive property with comfortable accommodation and pleasant staff. Close to center of Banbury with main road location. Adequate car parking.
Review 27:Staff friendly & helpful - nothing too much trouble. Nice location, good parking facilities, good breakfast choice & room had everything we needed.
Review 28:The shower was not much more than a dribble of water, and took a long time to warm up. Bathroom door very squeaky-not ideal when adults are moving around using the bathroom and children are asleep!
Review 29:Breakfast was excellent-so much choice,and very prompt,too.
Review 30:tiny bathroom and toilet, at opposite ends of the room... was a little strange! and no air/fan in the toilet.
Review 31:large, light, airy room at the front of the building. amazing breakfast.
Review 32:Lovely people, lovely rooms and the breakfast is freshly cooked. Cant ask for more. Definitely recommend it if in the area. We are going again in July.
Review 33:WiFi a bit sporadic
Review 34:The chalet arrangement was very good. Comfortable room, good parking facilities. Helpful staff, short walk into the centre. Good breakfast
Review 35:It was a bit noisy, could hear other guests taking during the night
Review 36:Greeted straight away by very friendly owners We were given a map of the town and a number of places suggested to us for dinner Very comfortable room with modern features and facilities. Would definitely stay again ;)
Review 37:The bed was softish and one rolled into the middle. Breakfast was OK - orange juice from concentrate, and tinned tomatoes not in my opinion acceptable - when asked if these could be swapped for fresh it seemed to cause a problem However, did get fresh in the end but these were hardly cooked. Sausage was of a cheap variety but overall was well cooked (apart from tomatoes!)
Review 38:It was convenient, clean and although basic did come up to my expectations
Review 39:The floor above was very creaky and we were woken by the person getting up early. The breakfast room is very packed with tables and the plastic table cloths are a turn off.
Review 40:it was clean and the bed was comfortable.
Review 41:Can't fault it to be honest - it was great
Review 42:Friendly welcome, Matt and Helen couldn't do enough for their guests! The room was clean, comfortable and the breakfasts were outstanding. Excellent.
Review 43:Could hear the plumming from above. But now i know its normal in the UK
Review 44:I loved a very present and friendly staff- i stayed in a double bed eventhough i checked in a single - cozy Family oriented place which i would definetily not hestitate to come back too Thank you
Review 45:Clean and spacious room , very comfortable. Owner couldn't do enough to help even rearranging the car park to accommodate our vehicle. Breakfast freshly cooked and tasty.
Review 46:We were on our way to Heathrow from Windermere and this is a convenient place for a night's stopover and break the long drive. We like that our cars can park right next to the rooms on the ground floor, at the back of the building. Nice friendly staff and excellent breakfast is served every morning.
Review 47:Minor issue was floor in upstairs room creaking but it is a lovely old house and the guest upstairs wasn't up late, so not a major problem.
Review 48:Friendly, helpful staff, clean comfy beds and room, and tasty breakfast. A very nice stay thank you!
Review 49:The room was spacious , clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly, welcoming and very knowledge of the area they live in . The breakfast was really delicious and sets you up for the day.
Review 50:Room at front of house so had road noise. In the morning investigated double glazing window and found seal not working, i.e. gap between window and seal, told staff who simply ignored advice, won't be staying again. Shame really as such a small job to fix.
Review 51:Comfy bed and clean room. Standard breakfast but a bit old fashioned. Still served fried bread, yerk!
Review 52:Cannot comment on breakfast I had to leave before 0700 but dining room looked smart clean and tidy
Review 53:Very friendly efficient staff room warm shower excellent , great room
Review 54:Having to find a socket to plug in the kettle - couldnt see a handy one so used a socket just above floor level. Not a problem for me as long as concentrating not to kick it over.
Review 55:Being able to arrive as late as 11pm, (actually it was more like 9pm). Easy enough walk from railway station even with suitcase. For the price paid a very good single room. Milk was soon provided on request - oversight here. Sufficient choice of continental breakfast such as juice, cereals, yogurt, fruit and pastries to go with the toast and tea, (fruity if you ask) - full breakfast was inclusive but not prudent before a long distance run. Handy that it was served at 7:30 even on Sunday.
Review 56:Could do with extending the breakfast end time, but then that's just my lazy opinion.
Review 57:Great Staff, No frills, Excellent quality. Lovely outside spaces & plenty of parking.
Review 58:Being a mature couple we would have preferred a walk in shower to a bath. The bath could have had safety grab rails.
Review 59:Location. General comfort. Breakfast was nice.
Review 60:From the time we arrived we were greeted warmly by Helen, who wasted no time providing us with a local map and highlighted local places of interest. The accommodation was a chalet, that was immaculate, with a very comfortable bed, freeview tv, tea/coffee making facilities, etc. The breakfast was fresh, hot and tasty. With lots of selection for cereal, yoghurts, fruit, toast etc. I would highly recommend Fairlawns. And shall definately stay here again.
Review 61:The shower was cold on the Sunday morning taking ages to heat up. But it didn't spoil our stay.
Review 62:Location was great, staff very helpful, breakfast lovely and comfortable room.
Review 63:Only a minor comment in our chalet a plug was needed close to a mirror for the hairdryer.
Review 64:Our ferry was delayed arriving in Portsmouth which meant we weren't due in Bambury until midnight. I telephoned the owners and they left the lights on in one of their chalets and the keynin the door, plus car parking directly outside. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. Staff very pleasant.
Review 65:Having to come home!
Review 66:my friend and I repeated our spa day & stay after having a lovely time last year. Friendly, great breakfast & a £10 off voucher for the Indian down the road.
Review 67:The car parking was a little tight.
Review 68:The Fairlawns is full of character. The attention to details such as the Arts and Crafts plates on the doors lifted the experience from the ordinary. The proprietors were friendly and obliging.
Review 69:Liked everything
Review 70:Very comfortable room with free wifi. Really good cooked breakfast available from 7 so I could get away for an early start. Helpful freindly staff. And really easy to find with good parking and easy access to mototway.
Review 71:Excellent accommodation which was good value for money. Would recommend to anyone wishing to stay in Banbury. Very helpful and knowledgeable managers.
Review 72:All good.
Review 73:The staff were excellent and even when I thought I was right about the time for breakfast they still did a little something for me. Good sound knowledge of the area around too.
Review 74:Nothing - well worth the money
Review 75:Really warm welcome and my room was spacious yet cosy. Bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was lovely and clean. Large TV and plentiful supply of tea/coffee facilities. Breakfast was great and there were plenty of options available. Plenty of parking.
Review 76:The guest house was spotlessly clean and had all the room facilities you would expect of a good hotel. Very comfortable bed, tea, coffee etc (all fair trade!), good breakfast and friendly staff. As a solo traveller I felt very safe and looked after and would recommend to other colleagues. Would definitely stay again.
Review 77:Ceiling creek from the room above, you could hear the other Guests walking around.
Review 78:Very friendly welcome, extremely clean, great breakfast. Good value for money
Review 79:There was nothing to complain about.
Review 80:My 8 year old granddaughter loved having our very own chalet. We felt safe and warm and will definitely stay there again.
Review 81:Extremely small space and bathroom very poky, practically part of bedroom! Plenty of continental breakfast but cooked breakfast could gave been better!
Review 82:Very clean bathroom and a very comfortable bed. Only short walk into town. Perfectly quiet, no outside noise could be heard in the room.
Review 83:There was nothing to dislike.
Review 84:The room was a good size and the compact en-suite was very clean with lovely soft towels. The separate toilet was a little small. Breakfast was excellent in the morning and the staff were very courteous and helpful. Good value. The owner was very helpful and recommended an excellent Indian restaurant just a short walk away.
Review 85:Traffic noise. Not too bad but continuous throughout the night.
Review 86:Excellent Hosts. Great Breakfast and very comfortable and informal facilities. Decent parking.
Review 87:dog are not allowed to enter in the main building and you need to leave him in the room or in the car if you are inside.
Review 88:it is really a dog welcome B&B, and our room was with the garden access, so our dog could have a little run playing with the ball. the room was very comfortable and they provide also the dog welcome list of restaurant and parks.
Review 89:The twin room had a nice double bed and a very small camp like bed. A bit unfair when sharing with another person.
Review 90:Great Breakfast. Very friendly and accomadating staff.
Review 91:As we were only there for a very short time, arriving in the evening and leaving the next morning, we didn't have time to be critical but from what I saw I'm sure there would be no problems.
Review 92:When we arrived the owner greeted us and immediately told us that our personal request for a lower floor room had been fulfulled and we were guided to a chalet room attached to the main house. The room was clean and tidy and nicely decorated. The bathroom was clean and aired, with soap, shampoo and shower gel. The bedroom had a wide screen tv on the wall and tea and coffee making facilities. We were able to park right outside our room which was extremely convenient when it poured with rain the next morning! Breakfast was good and tasty and the waitress friendly. Checking out was a very simple and friendly procedure. All in all we enjoyed our stay.
Review 93:Despite large room, toilet very small and in a cupboard as was wash basin and shower in other cupboard ! Bit of a squeeze but clean.
Review 94:Warm welcome. Only stayed the one night but host very hospitable and easily accessible. Room massive, with one double and two single beds for just the two of us! All tastefully decorated. Clean and tidy.
Review 95:Nothing.
Review 96:Everything. This is a guest house rather than a luxury hotel but exceedingly well kept and with most obliging and kind staff. The breakfast was very good, too. Very good value.
Review 97:Nothing not to like.
Review 98:Hosts very helpful and accommodating. Beautiful room and great food. Cater to individual needs. Definitely a lovely place to stay.
Review 99:The only thing was the smallish en suite but it wouldn't stop us staying there again
Review 100:We liked the breakfast, perfectly cooked and had the gluten free bread we asked for. Staff very helpful
Review 101:Climbing stairs with cases as I am elderly and bad knees.
Review 102:Just what we looking for after a long drive. Pleasant greeting, a comfortable bed after a long drive as we didn't arrive there till late. Nice breakfast in the morning.
Review 103:Matt and Helen, and staff, were friendly and helpful, we and our friends stayed in the comfortable chalets / family rooms and garden area, plus they set up the rooms in advance to meet the needs of many of us, so couldn't be faulted. It is a short walk to the Town centre but there is a Bus stop a few yards from the front if needed. Breakfast was very good and all requests met. A positive stay that we hope to return to.
Review 104:Can be chaotic when very busy if leaving early as car parking is tricky-but this isn't a fault with the owners, more bad parking by guests as there is in fact plenty of room!
Review 105:Everything about this Guest House is lovely. From he owners and staff, all who were extremely professional to the accommodation, which was very comfortable, especially the chalets at the rear( so quieter)
Review 106:Staff very welcoming and accommodating in every way. Excellent breakfast. Lovely rooms which looked out into the garden so we had sat around table with friends. Only a short walk from town centre, Will definitely come again next year.
Review 107:I was woken at 6am by a host of activity: people manoeuvring their car (directing each other loudly) outside my window and people above me walking about on creaky floorboards and going to the toilet and flushing the chain and I could also hear them talking. I wasn't able to get back to sleep because it was all really noisy!
Review 108:Professional, friendly, helpful staff. Lovely breakfast. Clean and comfortable.
Review 109:Attic room a little hot and stuff even with the window open, and having the window open meant it was noisy during the night, although not from guests at the Fairlawns. Wi-Fi signal fairly weak upstairs.
Review 110:Spotlessly clean, friendly staff, excellent breakfast, comfortable beds, excellent location
Review 111:bathroom was cold and small. a bit far from the town center for us - we walked and had a kid to walk too.
Review 112:the staff is very friendly and professional. breakfast is good. we were given motel-like rooms, it was convenient for us and our mini-van
Review 113:The warm welcome from the owner and the high standard of decorative order in the house and adjoining rooms. A good breakfast in pleasant surroundings. Convenient for Banbury.
Review 114:Friendly, helpful staff, great breakfast, clean and comfortable room, ideal location, plenty of room to park at a good price. Will definitely stay here again.
Review 115:I would prefer the breakfast menu to be on paper at the table, not fixed on the wall. Had to be read to me as forgot my glasses!
Review 116:All good, will return.
Review 117:Early morning traffic (6.30) very noisy and couldn't close one of the windows.
Review 118:Very spacious and comfortable room. Great breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good location, easy walking distance from town centre.
Review 119:The room and bathroom were both very small and although we were able to open a large window, it couldn't be left open overnight as we were on the ground floor; the temperature was stifling.
Review 120:Liked the location, that breakfast was included and value for money
Review 121:Good staff, unusually there were plenty of staff at breakfast time. Adequate room, clean and comfy. Short walk into Banbury for a range of eateries.
Review 122:The guesthoust was a bit oversold in the ad. Our "king size bed" turned out to be barely a double bed... But very nice and very friendly staff. Most rooms were facing very busy and loud (!) street. However, upon asking the next day, we were able to move to a more quiet room in the back. Good location and proximity to Oxford which was Our reason for choosing Banbury.
Review 123:We stayed in the attic room (8) and it was extremely hot although we were provided with a good fan. We opened the window to make it cooler during the night as the fan was too noisy to run but found the traffic on Oxford Road very noisy.
Review 124:Cleanliness, good breakfast, décor and set up of bedrooms and bathroom. Convenient for Banbury and the game fair which we attended at Woodstock.
