Reviews for Days Inn Winchester

Review 1:Poorly marked Location Unknowledgeable staff

Review 2:I called several times over my evening attempting to get to the hotel which did not have a proper postal code so my satnav kept leading me astray. I ended up much further away at another Days Inn where they never offered me a room only that I go back. Of course A dark and rainy night with no signage I didn't find it that time either as the exit was difficult to navigate ( I'm not from the Uk and don't know these service centers have grouping with hotels even that info would have been helpful. Rather I was looking for a proper stand alone location). I ended up somewhere else's or the night. Now if there had been a sign even the sunshine logo on the edge of the motorway before the exit, it would've been helpful.

Review 3:Can be accessed from M3 only from one direction.

Review 4:The location on the M3 is very handy for travellers, but still had a surprisingly quiet room. Friendly hotel personnel.

Review 5:I didn't like that the room was not vacuumed or that the duvet was just dragged over the beds, I also find your website very deceiving, it was my first time there, and I wanted to visit Winchester shops, we had to pay a total of 75 pounds to get to and from your facilities. It ruined my whole weekend, there aren't enough shop and nothing to do that far out.

Review 6:The staff was very friendly, and accommodating,

Review 7:The shower and bath water didn't get very hot. Kept on going warm then cold. Had it running for a while to see if that was the problem but was the same. However the hot water at the sink was very hot.

Review 8:Excellent value for money. Room was spacious, and very comfortable. Staff were friendly and welcoming.

Review 9:Nothing to dislike

Review 10:We used this as a stop over whilst on our way to the Isle of Wight. The location was good for this purpose. The cost was acceptable. Friendly staff and clean & comfortable rooms.

Review 11:The lack of access coming back from Winchester on motorway. Mouldy chocolate on the floors and was cleaned very poorly, definitely something that needs some improvement!!

Review 12:The beds were comfy and ample teas facilities. Staff were helpful and pleasant.

Review 13:1. Needed to make it clear on line could only access from southbound. A Ipad maps shows access that isn't there. 2. Something in stairwell - large crates of possible laundry - made the stairwell smell mouldy.

Review 14:Friendly welcome. V. Quiet. Simple but comfortable room. Pet welcome.

Review 15:The fact you have to go up to next junction of m3 after services and come back down m3 to get there. Area Around taps need to be sorted, as does the stitching on duvet covers had come undone on both sides. Also fact that couple of rats ran in front of play area in front of accommodation, did inform reception of this one

Review 16:friendly,reception n cleaning staff. Room was spacious n accomdating.

Review 17:Smell and location. Certainly wasn't central Winchester and appealing that it could only be accessed on the southbound carriageway. Smelt of veg soup!

Review 18:Price

Review 19:It may only be 6 miles into Wincester but due to its southbound location on the M3 it is more like 30 miles to return as you have to drive passed it to the Basingstoke exit to turn around and come back!!??

Review 20:Clean and a basic place to sleep which is what we wanted

Review 21:I was woken up quite early sunday morning by cleaners banging on the wall/doors outside my room with the cleaning cart.

Review 22:Staff were very helpful and friendly, the place was very clean. Thank you!

Review 23:black mildew marks on net curtains and around windows. A very large puddle on bathroom floor which meant I could not get close to the basin. It had begun to dry up when I got up in the morning.

Review 24:convenient situation for me to stop overnight on my journey

Review 25:See above

Review 26:The room was awful we were given a disabled room which felt like a hospital room. The shower leaked everywhere and the tap was broken. The location is extremely misleading and it cost an absolute fortune for a taxi to and from winchester. I would never stay here again and certainly would not recommend it to anyone.

Review 27:On the web the say they are 8 miles from Winchester which is correct , what the don't say is that if you want to get there from Winchester it's a 21 mile drive up the m3 to Basingstoke and back

Review 28:Staff friendly and rooms clean and quiet

Review 29:Lack of facilities to obtain breakfast - got a little lost as in wrong lane so had to go up motorway and turn around

Review 30:Room was very cosy and bathroom good

Review 31:The Bookings.com website said 4.4 miles to Alresford. In fact it is more like 12 and to get to he hotel, with access from the southbound M3 it is more like 23 miles. Bath chipped and rusty and black mold on bathroom tiles that could have been cleaned off, ring marks on tables in room poor housekeeping!

Review 32:Friendly staff

Review 33:Access to northbound lanes requires a diversion of maybe 8-10 miles. Shower was not hot...tepid at best.

Review 34:Good sized room; easy access for travelling south on the M3

Review 35:Motorway service stations are never the most exciting locations but they provide what you need. Except that the on site provision for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. were extremely poor though not the fault of Days Inn.

Review 36:Clean, comfortable and what was needed for an overnight stop whilst travelling.

Review 37:Stayed overnight with a towing caravan after a 9 hr crossing from St Malo. Travelling to Cardiff but did not want 3+ hr drive home in the dark that evening. The Inn was comfortable but big disadvantage was its location on Southbound side of M3. Not very obvious in the dark where to safely park the caravan and car overnight. Manager on site (M&S food) very helpful. Other disadvantage was that apart from unappetising fast food there were no eating options available for evening dinner or breakfast. Next time I will consider travelling to M4 and staying at Membury where facilities are better.

Review 38:The receptionist at the Inn was very helpful. Room comfortable and very adequate for overnight stay

Review 39:We could not find the Inn. We found two other Days Inn including Southampton up to 9pm not one could help the three (2rooms) of us so we had to sleep in the carall night until we got on the P&O Oriana at 130 pm. all three ages 84 87 & 88 years old..We though one of your staff of the three Days in could helped in some way after charging Sixty pounds for the two rooms ? Mr J.Jamieson.!?

Review 40:If anyone is considering using this for Tough Mudder Winchester, don'T. You'll rack up over a hundred quid in Taxi fares alone. Not a pleasant surprise.WiFi was practically non-existent. I ended up paying £12 in data top up fees.

Review 41:No fuss check in, comfortable room, good shower.

Review 42:We didn't have a car so got the train to Winchester then a taxi from the town, which cost us almost £50 as the Motorway had no turning points until we were almost in Basingstoke! The Days Inn advertisers itself as 8 miles from Winchester town centre, but if you are travelling from the town to Days Inn be prepared for a 35 minute, £50 journey. Luckily our taxi driver was very nice and gave us some of our money back as we had been misinformed of the proximity of the town. He didn't have to do that, good on him. We also tried to call the reception at Days Inn several times during the day and they didn't pick up the phone once.

Review 43:The bed was really comfortable, I had a lovely night's sleep. The room was a good size too, plenty of space for two people with luggage.

Review 44:The room was poor and needed several repairs The location was very poor we had to drive to Basingstoke and back to get back to the hotel from Winchester

Review 45:The outside looked modern

Review 46:Having to drive up and down the motorway way past the location as only access on one side of motorway. No breakfast available, Burger King closed in mornings

Review 47:Room became very hot, despite the weather being cool outside. Very basic and therefore rather expensive in relation to similar or more upgrade hotels for the same cost.

Review 48:Location good for onward travel to Southampton Docks.

Review 49:The wash basin in the bathroom was cracked and had obviously been so for quite a while. Not very hygienic and a replacement could have easily been carried out.

Review 50:Generally the hotel was acceptable

Review 51:Just the bed, I didn't find it comfortable. Neither did my partner. My parents stayed in a different room on the same evening and also had this complaint.

Review 52:The warmest welcome I have ever had from any hotel staff member, I believe she was the cluster manager. Very helpful, attentive and comedic she put us at ease from the off. I would probably return just got her charm.

Review 53:the hotel need a good refurb. Rusty bathtub, cracked basin, dirty walls and the bed well not comfy at all and pillows are like 2 pancakes.

Review 54:The staff is nice

Review 55:The only drawback was how you got to the hotel. It was a long way round if you had to go up the northbound carriageway and then back to go to it on the southbound carriageway.

Review 56:Better than expected.

Review 57:Location is terrible, I booked to travel to and from Winchester, this requires a 16 mile round trip to get to the hotel via the motorway. The taxi cost for this lowered the value for money of the hotel as I could have stayed in central Winchester in a better hotel for less money.

Review 58:Bed was comfortable

Review 59:Location on the motorway makes it tricky to get to/from unless you are continuing on a journey - couldn't use as a base, but perfect for overnight stop.

Review 60:Clean. Comfortable. Functional.

Review 61:All good

Review 62:It is a stop over at a motorway service area, but it had all one needed for a short stay, spacious room, tea and coffee making, clean and comfortable. But most of all the reception was quick, efficient and polite with always a smile of recognition each time we came and went, something I do not get at 5 star establishments.

Review 63:Bathroom was not clean. Shower curtain appears to not been changed in a while. Dirty marks and stains could be seen on inspection. Had the unfortunate of the curtain touching my skin which caused an irritation. Stain marks were in the face sink and toilet. Shower tap parts were missing. It would appear that there was button which was built in, was missing on the side that regulate the temperature. This leaves a hole in the tap which can be sharp if your hand goes over it. There was a constant mouldy damp smell in the air.

Review 64:The reception staff was pleasant. When mention the state of the shower curtain it was changed.

Review 65:This is not the fault of the hotel but if you're staying for boomtown festival, beware! All the local taxi services were charging between £45 and £70 for each 8 mile journey. Also, the area around the service station next door is home to some of the biggest rats I've ever seen....

Review 66:Lovely helpful staff, clean rooms and great value for money

Review 67:No service road so had to travel miles out of our way to get back to the hotel from Winchester. Hot tap wouldn't turn off and water would scald small child. Dogs barking outside window long before 7am on a Sunday morning. Service facilities closed so nowhere to get food when arriving late and very expensive W H Smiths.

Review 68:Girl on reception worked long hours but was always smiling and helpful.

Review 69:Bed was very uncomfortable seemed very old could feel the springs!! Also Could do with a little more attention when been cleaned!!!

Review 70:The only good thing was 11 o'clock check out the next day

Review 71:Very costly for what it is. If a Travelodge was available I would have booked there to get the same facilities for much less

Review 72:Very comfortable bed and nice late check out

Review 73:Days Inn advertise £25 rooms so when it actually cost £74 with no breakfast cooked or continental it begs the question also toilet seat was full of cigarette burns, soap dispenser was dirty carpet needs shampooing the shower head requires descaling and the bath tap needs the thermostat fixing I stay in 5 hotels a week as a nationwide courier pretty poor for the money !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review 74:plenty of towels

Review 75:Difficult to find the information needs to state it is on the services as our sat nav sent us further on

Review 76:Great size room we had our granddaughter and her friend with us . Helpful lady on reception.

Review 77:When we went to our room, we had been given a double and not a family room. The man on reception blamed booking.com and said there were no family rooms available- we had 2 4year olds with us! After a call to booking.com, a family room appeared!

Review 78:Close to service station which has a good selection of food available.

Review 79:The post code on the booking forms take you to another location at least 20mins away to a private estate !!! Our trip from Herne bay took 4.5 hrs instead of 2.0hrs because of the postcode . There was no signage for "days inn" on the m3 until you actually drive into Winchester services where it's under the larger moto sign !!! Why is there no mention that this hotel is located in a motorway.service area ?? The sliding door in the disabled room was very very difficult to slide closed .

Review 80:My special request was that my room was next to that of my disabled husband. This was ignored and I was much further along the corridor . Too far from Wnchester

Review 81:Nothing

Review 82:The location meant that from Winchester it took 40 minutes to get to but only 10 minutes back. It's a shame you have to travel so far north to get on the M3.

Review 83:The young lady on the desk in reception was delightful. I left my Kindle in my room and was delighted to get it back. Really helpful and pleasant.

Review 84:Although website states 8 miles from Winchester town centre it is actually 24 miles, because you have to drive past the hotel on the other side of the road, up to next junction on M3 and turnaround. Taxi cost £59 late evening from Winchester to hotel. I consider this false advertising as you cannot get to the site in 8 miles unless by helicopter!

Review 85:Price wasn't too bad. Comfortable bed.

Review 86:The shower was too hot and the cold water in the shower did not work i did not complain as we were on a deadline for a wedding

Review 87:Friendly staff good location clean sheets

Review 88:A shame it's not accessible to non vehicle users. Good location for cyclists but difficult for them to access

Review 89:Flexibility in letting us keep our bikes in our room was very helpful.

Review 90:If you've come from Winchester before going to the Days Inn, don't bother booking this facility. You have to travel 24 miles from Winchester travelling up the M3 getting off at junction 7 then travel back down the M3 to get off at the service station where Days Inn is. I had a 1 day event in Winchester and needed to be close to Winchester for my wife to pick me up later. A complete waste of time and fuel. I won't be staying here again.

Review 91:Journey there from Cheshire. Satnav lost itself trying to get on downside of M3. I endsd up on a rough lane in woodland somewhere West of M3. You need accommodation on both sides of M3.

Review 92:12 miles to chandlers ford to job I was working on. Return journey 36 miles! Services area in evening was amok with rats on the benches and tables where you are supposed to sit in outside areas. TV didn't work. Guy on desk got it working but the remote battery's had gone dead so was stuck with BBC1 until next evening. If you like burgers your fine as that is all on offer ref food or M&S shop but mega dear and not a lot of proper food choice.

Review 93:Poor access. Only access is from the southbound M3. No phone service in the room. Limited and incorrect information from the staff.

Review 94:A place to sleep for one night.

Review 95:Nothing.

Review 96:Only ever stayed at a Days Inn in Florida, which was very basic. This hotel on the outskirts of Winchester, was nothing like the one in Florida. The staff were all very friendly on our arrival to the hotel. The bedroom was very clean, with a comfortable bed and adequate storage for an overnight stay. The wi fi was free, unlike some of the other budget hotels that we have stayed in. As this hotel was in a motorway service area, there was enough choice for eating there and for breakfast the next morning. However, if you wanted the hotel staff would deliver a continental breakfast to you in a small box. We would certainly stay at a Days Inn again.

Review 97:Trying to find the hotel, it was horendous. The staff didn't seem bothered that it was very difficult for us to find.

Review 98:Costa coffee breakfast next door

Review 99:In Room 36: Tile grouting above bath is black and mouldy looking - just needs cleaning with bleach. No bed heads for twin beds - had to have heads against the wall as the bedhead was designed for a double bed Heater did not work Access to hotel from Winchester is inconvenient.

Review 100:We liked most things except those that we didn't like and which could have been easily rectified. Nice clean linen Plenty of towels Easy accessible cupboard space Free wifi

Review 101:Everything was up to standard, but was a huge crack in the bathroom sink, didn't affect use though

Review 102:Perfect for what we needed it for. Room well equipped, free wifi and beds really comfortable. Wasn't expecting it to be as nice as it was. But remember it's a service station hotel after all, so don't be expecting the ritz, but I had zero complaints. We also checked it very late almost 10pm and it was a problem

Review 103:N/A - wasn't there long enough, a little bit cheaper would have been good - especially as there's no breakfast included.

Review 104:Easy for very late check-in (11.30pm), easy early check out (7.30am). Comfortable and clean.

Review 105:Blue badge parking abusers. Reception staff "single person" very nice but tied to desk.

Review 106:A good services stop. All fuels for vehicles and people.

Review 107:No common areas such as lounge, bar or breakfast room. As the property details make clear, the hotel is only accessible from the M3 Southbound, so would be inconvenient for anyone looking to use it as a base to explore the local area.

Review 108:Decent sized room, clean and comfortable

Review 109:Quite a 'seedy' room. Brown rust-like material exuding from base of sink tap. Smelly on arrival. Chair arms worn and shabby. Unable to access coming back from Winchester as no Mway junction so almost at Basingstoke to reach. Should have flagged that up.

Review 110:Stated four miles from Winchester, but as I was already in Winchester had to drive 22 miles to get to south bound. It did state this on site, but wasn't spotted on booking as is at bottom of page. I went by the 4 miles away distance

Review 111:Friendly staff and comfy bed

Review 112:Sight of rat outside no breakfast expensive compared to premier Inn deals we usually get difficult to get to going north from wincheste

Review 113:Quiet comfortable beds convenient parking

Review 114:Bit of a long-winded way to get to the Days Inn from Winchester as you have to go back on yourself on the motorway.

Review 115:The welcome was warm and friendly, sufficient tea, coffee and milk in the room, the room was very clean and comfortable with no traffic noise at all.

Review 116:No breakfast available, no where to warm up food, a microwave centrally would be helpful.. Apart from the services there is nothing there and is a bit out of the way.

Review 117:Dirty carpet and dusty shelves in the room and in the bathroom; shower was fixed too high and we barely had any hot water - it was sometimes working only if you left the sink's cold water tap on. Nothing healthy to eat around, it is next to a petrol station. Long way back from the city. Rats were spotted outside and we even heard them quarreling outside our window.

Review 118:If you need emergency accommodation then you could spend one night here. More than this is too much.

Review 119:The taps in the wash-hand basin were smooth domes with no grip. I literally couldn't turn them at all, very stiff. My partner just managed.if you're strong,no probs, we both have arthritic hands and had to leave one tap slightly running, couldn't turn it off!

Review 120:Excellent room heater, electric so on and off when you want rather than the usual rad that's off at night. Very comfortable beds, spacious room, brilliant accommodation for,the price. Rather ancient plumbing!

Review 121:Only the one night so not long enough to stress over anything.

Review 122:The warm room was welcoming coming in from the cold, the bed was clean and sleep inducing the bathroom was small but functional with pleasant got shower, yes it was good value for the rate.

Review 123:Drive from winchester to hotel. Might just have been our sat nav, but had to drive approx 6 miles up motorway to exit and turn round and double back on ourselves to get on the right side on the motorway. It may be close to Winchester, but doesn't feel like it. It's part of motorway services so only fast food outlets if you wanted an evening meal, or breakfast without having to drive anywhere

Review 124:Staff very pleasant and friendly on both occasions we have stayed. Rooms clean and warm, although a bit dated. Not disturbed by motorway next door though were by neighbouring guests, returning late at night.

Review 125:Had not realised when booking that to return after a party in Kingsworthy that we would have to travel 15 miles back up the M3 thought there was a cut through a road hence taxi fares of £60 return. (Suggest you mention this to customers when booking) No soap in dispenser Remote control did not work Mould in my sons room and room not aired or warmed up prior to arrival

Review 126:Price, Richard was very friendly, informative with a great welcoming smile

Review 127:We were going to my sister's 50th birthday celebrations in Winchester and booked Days Inn for the convenience. We hadn't realized we'd have to travel so far up the motorway to come back down again! I'm glad I'd phoned a taxi firm beforehand to ascertain costs (we decided to drive as the cost would have been in the region of £80.00-£100.00)

Review 128:Very clean and comfortable and considering it was so close to the motorway we weren't disturbed by noise at all. Having a 24 hour reception was also a bonus.

Review 129:1 bed in our room squeaked so much it kept both of us awake for much of the night. The beds are also pretty uncomfortable - I have stayed in a LOT of hotels and am very easy to please but these were the worst beds I've ever slept in, except a caravan! The location is great if you are going to Winchester from north, but the facilities in the services are very very limited - M&S food or Costa. No where to have a meal or breakfast.

Review 130:Price Staff Location

Review 131:The cleaner came in when we were out of the room and fixed the bedclothes and emptied the bin but never cleaned the room or gave us clean cups! If you're afraid of rats don't go here as the hotel is near a woods so rats everywhere (outside only though).

Review 132:The bed was comfy and the night porter was nice. Pets are allowed.

Review 133:Checking in at 1am I was hoping it would be straight forward because I had been travelling all day and was so tired but the gentleman struggled and everything took so long.

Review 134:The size of the room, easy parking, bath in the bathroom

Review 135:The how to get there should state that it is located at SERVICE STATION NUMBER X. The address given was all but useless.

Review 136:I had to go to Winchester City every day. The return to the Hotel is about 3 times longer then the trip to the City.

Review 137:The location of the hotel was realy bad if you're travelling to Winchester or anywhere else south. About £30-40 for a cab ride to or from Winchester because of the M3. Definitely not a budget hotel when not travelling by car.

Review 138:Despite the location, the hotel itself was quite nice. The administration was friendly and helpful and the rooms were comfy and clean

Review 139:Very long journey to get back from winchester, mattress very soft you basically sink in the middle, ridiculously expensive taxi few to go 6.8 miles, (£30 each way), lots of traffic noise.

Review 140:Cheap hotel for winchester area

Review 141:The hotel is fine but unfortunately I arrived later than expected and was given the disabled room. I'm tall and found I had to stoop to see myself in the mirror and the sink was not much above my knees!

Review 142:The staff were awake when I arrived around 03:00 so I could check in without having to ring or bang on doors until someone woke up which is what usually happens elsewhere. Typical Days Inn so pretty good value.
