Reviews for Regency Park Hotel

Review 1:The heating in the bathroom did not work, and here was nothing within walking distance of the hotel. Also the bed is hard.

Review 2:I liked that the hotel was nice and that you can use the spa facilities as a hotel guest. I also liked how attentive most of the staff are at the hotel.

Review 3:I didn't like the fact that I paid for a executive sweet any yet the television didn't work and we had no wi fi for the duration of the stay. Evening explaining this problem to the reception on day one did not resolve the issue, we were just forgotten about. On booking out ( 1130-30 Dec 2015), I explained this to the receptionist, I received the following phrase and his intended actions to resolve the issue " oh.. We will take a look"...... Brilliant... Give that lad a gold star.... Very very bad

Review 4:Nothing not to like

Review 5:I like where it is situated staff very friendly and helpful nice and clean surrounds food very good over all good value for money

Review 6:Restaurant was a little inflexible if you don't book in advance. Menu was ok but limited, but it was over the Xmas w/e.

Review 7:Handy for Newbury without being in the town. Good spa facilities. Room was well equipped, and our ground floor room had seating outside.

Review 8:Service at breakfast slow and quite poor with the extra coffee tea and toast over and above the buffet breakfast. Finished eating before I received my coffee - not the first time this has happened when I've stayed here

Review 9:Would like dressing gowns provided as standard, most of the room in my travel bag is usually taken up by mine.

Review 10:Always a friendly welcome and staff efficient and polite. Rooms with balconies or patio area are great.

Review 11:Room quality was excellent could not fault it! Very large room with 2 tv's Excellent polite staff food quality was superb great location, just a little too hot in the room & no heat controls in room

Review 12:Wonky lift that requires servicing. Rather awkward parking and challenging exit onto busy road.

Review 13:Good value breakfast. Friendly helpful reception. Some of the art work.

Review 14:Breakfast was awful!! Maitre d was not pleasant, she had a 'couldn't care less attitude'. The hot buffet was atrocious, burnt bacon 'bit's' floating in fat, a spoonful of rock hard scrambled egg on offer, the 'fresh' tomatoes were just a pile of mush, the baked beans had a crust on top and the sausages were deep fried! Not a pleasant experience, a far cry from the evening before! Having complained they knocked off just 20%!!!

Review 15:Dinner was superb and all staff involved were extremely helpful, attentive and polite as was the young barman on duty.

Review 16:Very poor breakfast experience with untrained staff and very poor restocking of breakfast items. Woken early on Saturday by 2 men blowing leaves in the car park with very loud equipment. A room service tray left outside a room in excess of 17 hours indicating poor housekeeping.

Review 17:Good rooms. Good swimming pool. Good location for Newbury racecourse.

Review 18:Just a little remote but maybe because I didn' know the area at all.

Review 19:Lovely hotel, fabulous room and excellent spa facilities. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 20:The hotel had block let to the electricity company, consequently the main parking areas were full with vans and trucks.the bar area was full of rowdy workmen in their soiled working clothes complete with bad language

Review 21:Brilliantly stylish yet relaxing room at the end of a busy day; superb meal with opportunity to chat through the events of the day, and to relax. And a really comfy bed. We rate Premier Inn beds v.highly and sometimes really smart hotels don't go the extra-mile with comfy beds ....but we were really impressed. Thank you all.

Review 22:The heating in the room was way too hot. No rads on, yet still hot. The water temp in the shower and bath were also too hot. No cold water... so either a hot shower or a very hot shower! But I'd stay here again... in fact I am.. tomorrow night!

Review 23:Facilities very very good.

Review 24:Not sure what rooms not refurbished would be like as the corridors were getting long in the tooth.

Review 25:I was in a refurbished room which was well equipped and spacious.

Review 26:Very noisy during the night and did not get a good sleep. Someone was banging on Door Windows for over an hour during the night.

Review 27:Excellent hotel in general

Review 28:I have just said but one good point staff very helpful and polite very clean hotel

Review 29:Room was very cosy plenty of heating bed a bit uncomfortable bar in room empty apart from that hotel was nice when I booked breakfast should of been included in price of stay

Review 30:Staff not friendly in the bar, not to mention I had invited a family member who lives in the area for a drink in the hotel bar and the 'barman' tried to give him a warm flat pint which had been wrongly poured earlier, to add to this we over heard one member of staff tell the other to make sure you give him the wrongly poured pint from earlier, this was tuesday evening, not good enough, regular visitor to newbury,

Review 31:Good location,had everything i required.

Review 32:Overall pleasant stay. We had treatments booked in the spa, we asked staff at the reception for robes and were informed we would have to hire them for £15 each.

Review 33:Friendly staff.

Review 34:The sub standard room! Not worth the money that was paid even with a discount that was given due to things not being of an acceptable standard! A big stain on the bathroom ceiling, a cracked and dirty tile in the bathroom, stained carpet and curtain. Shocking service in the restaurant for Sunday breakfast coupled with a dirty table cloth! Gutted this was a weekend treat for my husband and I!

Review 35:The majority of the staff were cheery, polite and helpful. The Deputy Manager was very understanding and took the time to listen to my complaints! Fantastic pool but does get rather busy even when getting up early!

Review 36:Pre-authorisation on credit cards. Excessive an unwarranted 2% fee for Amex users. Even cafes don't pass on this charge.

Review 37:Spa facilities, Ceaser salad, decent Wifi. Quiet. Sancerre.

Review 38:Nothing was too much trouble . The receptionist organised taxis, booked a table for dinner at the restaurant in town and was very friendly and helpful.

Review 39:Telephone contact options/choice not clear. Couldn't leave message without a "code". Suggest Option 1 should be reception/switchboard. Final billing was wrong as it did not match reservation pricing. We could have been considerably overcharged if not noticed immediately.

Review 40:Spacious, attractive and well appointed room

Review 41:Faultless

Review 42:We stayed on the second floor, our room was very spacious and comfortable. Very quiet, away from any possible noises previously mentioned on others comments. Breakfast staff very helpful, gong the extra mile to bring fried eggs to our table instead of us having to go back to the breakfast counter for them.

Review 43:The service in the restaurant was awful. I'm presuming there was staffing issues and hopefully this is something that has been or can be resolved easily.

Review 44:Accommodation was lovely, spacious and clean. Nice food in restaurant.

Review 45:There is work needing doing on the breakfast. There seemed to be insufficient staff and those there did not seem to understand the need to keep food topped up or have intuitive antennae for what people were needing. This is a pity, as the food was good. Staff training would sort this and make it excellent as the dining room is in a pleasant location.

Review 46:Our room had a balcony with a door which didn't lock. It needed a new lock fitting as as it was the weekend, no one was available to do the work. When we pointed this out to reception, the manager came, apologised and upgraded our room. Very pleasant and excellent service.

Review 47:The slow dining experience. The outdoor seating area was very small.

Review 48:Hotel was great - evening meal tasted lovely however it was a very slow process to receive it. The poor dining room service was however rectified on check out.

Review 49:Aspects slightly dated in the rooms.

Review 50:Size of the room, cleanliness of the room. Food via room service was good. Location was nice, however the best aspect was the health and fitness (gym, spa, swimming pool) facilities.

Review 51:Shower curtain ! and bit pricey for food etc.

Review 52:The Gym and spa facilities were excellent. Room was extremely comfortable with seperate seating area for TV etc. Good spacious room. Friendy staff. Great - powerful shower.

Review 53:Unknown to us, our room turned out to be above their concert venue. When I phoned the night desk to complain about the loud music after 11pm, I was told it was continuing until 1am. There was no apology. We were told we should have asked for a quiet room, as indicated on their website. As I'm sure most people do, we expected respect for guests' need to sleep from 11pm. There was no mention of this issue on their web booking pages, or on the Bookings.com page; no mention of it when we checked in. The check-out receptionist was polite and apologetic, but too late for us. This coupled with a 50 minute wait for our evening meal to be served means we won't be making an early return there.

Review 54:The room was reasonably comfortable.

Review 55:Long wait for the hot buffet at breakfast though we thought it was to be seated. Manager was under pressure as was very short staffed. Need more trained staff, as we had to find someone to re order coffee and toast. Service was good once we found someone !

Review 56:Had requested an early check in but arrived earlier than anticipated, room not ready but receptionist allocated another without fuss. Very helpful.

Review 57:Staff at bar Sat night and Sunday breakfast were inexperienced we had to sit outside restaurant for breakfast which was most uncomfortable, but the food was excellent.

Review 58:We loved the closeness to Oxford and the location

Review 59:Staff needed training, particularly the waiting staff in the restaurant, did not receive a warm welcome on arrival and bar staff had issues with providing full pint measures of beer despite 2 requests to top up!

Review 60:Facilities and location

Review 61:Maybe bar prices to high.

Review 62:I came with a friend for a civil partnership celebration. all the staff in all areas were great, the food for the evening was good, and the rooms very comfortable.

Review 63:A wedding event meant that some of the hotel facilities were closed to other visitors including the conservatory. The night we were there, a number of football teams were staying and fully occupied the bar area. They were friendly but noisy.

Review 64:Good but expensive restaurant

Review 65:Breakfast on Saturday was hot, well served and we were offered a menu- the standard I would expect for the price. Sunday was awful. The restaurant had been full the night before and the tables were not ready. There was no menu. The staff could not cope with the numbers and the buffet food was cold. The manager said they were aware of the issues.

Review 66:We had an executive room which was spacious and well furnished, although the decor was a little tired. Pool and leisure facilities were lovely.

Review 67:Receptionist did not explain the outline of the hotel e.g. the facilities the restaurant. The waitress dd not explain that it was a buffet breakfast. No toast was offered. The breakfast was luke warm

Review 68:Food in the evening

Review 69:Terrible service in the restaurant. Table booked for 8pm and by 11pm we left only having had 2 courses!! No apology from staff. Busy restaurant but at one point not one person was eating and there must of been 50 plus people. Wouldn't return.

Review 70:Nice room but tired looking bathroom

Review 71:Rooms booked under wrong name, and doubles instead of twins even though we emailed the hotel in advance to check, and rang the morning of arrival. Dinner reservation not booked despite requesting 3 times (in advance by phone and email and on checkin) and again not on breakfast list despite being DBB. Dreadful service in restaurant as short staffed, 4 hours to get meal with all diners complaining. Alan was a saviour bless him, and manager did promise refund of dinner costs at check out which will hopefully be received shortly! Shame as otherwise a great hotel and lovely spa and gym.

Review 72:Nice hotel, good clean rooms.

Review 73:Dinner was chaotic as four members of Staff failed to turn up. Some diners waited over an hour and a half for their starters. Some gave up . Staff inefficient. Breakfast also was not as one would expect.

Review 74:Room very nice, and large pool. Food good if you do not mind the wait!

Review 75:The evening meal on Friday was lovely, on Saturday it was a disaster. Whilst the food was still very nice it took 3.5 hrs to complete our meal. They were short staffed and supporting a nearly full restaurant, wedding and conference. Nobody took the time to explain what was happening. Some diners were cross but most were resigned to the situation. We were compensated but they have an issue with organisation, training and communication. Similarly breakfast on sunday was cramped with overflow to the bar eating off low coffee tables.

Review 76:Nice hotel and good facilities. There were weddings on both days of our stay but wedding guests and hotel guests are quite separate. Our room was away from the function area so we had no noise but I believe others did.

Review 77:The hotel is pretty dated. The bar was very dreary and the food was bland and over-priced. We ate out for dinner after a disappointing lunch at the hotel, breakfast didn't live up to much either.

Review 78:The spa facilities are good, and the stay was great value for money. The room was spacious and had all the facilities we were looking for.

Review 79:Had to move rooms half way through the night because of fan noises outside he room or possibly in the hotel, can't be sure. Either way we could not sleep, so they moved us to the room above which was a bit better. Moving rooms in the middle of the night is never good!

Review 80:Nothing to do with hotel but as my daughter was so ill we couldnt enjoy our stay and had to leave after breakfast to take her home, (and then to hospital) rather than continue our holiday. On another note, we personally didnt think the evening meal was anything like as wonderful as last year, has the chef changed?

Review 81:My daughter, who is type 1 diabetic became very ill during the night. The gentleman on reception instantly came to help getting her a sweet drink from the kitchen and brought more up to the room. Very grateful to him.

Review 82:Please be aware the pool is not open to children at all times. The main reason we booked the hotel. Duty manager said he would speak to Booking.com, he didn't get back to us. wouldn't recommend unless you are there for an event, a lot of very drunk people wandering around.

Review 83:Breakfast was hard to dish up as the hot food lids got in the way. The bar staff were under pressure in the evening so waiting time was a bit excessive.

Review 84:The room we were allocated was spacious and clean. The pillows were really comfy, in fact the best hotel pillows I've ever had. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 85:very very slow staff at the bar . Breakfast containers need up dating . And not being topped up quickly. Breakfast staff very good.

Review 86:Nice clean room .

Review 87:Your pre-authorisation system. Would not expect this from a 4 star AA hotel and have never experienced this anywhere in the world. Would not use you again. Not very easy to find way round Newbury road system.

Review 88:Staff very helpful. Pool and jacuzzi excellent. Restaurant v good

Review 89:The shower head didn't come off the wall. Breakfast wasn't refilled enough for the price. They reused cutlery that you didn't use on table when setting up new tables!!

Review 90:The room was great. Loved the pool, jacuzzi ect.

Review 91:Had to wait to be served at the bar as it seemed that the hotel were short of staff. Some of the staff have difficulty in understanding and speaking English.

Review 92:The leisure facilities are excellent. The room was spacious and comfortable.

Review 93:We were in room 149 which had a persistent hum from fans outside the room. First night I informed reception who said they should be switched off at night however they weren't during our stay.

Review 94:Liked the executive room and the generous space provided. The gym and pool facilities are very good as was the evening meal in the restaurant.

Review 95:The fact that we booked an executive suite which actually was adapted for disabled use which made the sink in the bathroom very low ,also the door didn't shut properly . Also we had to wait for the room to be cleaned!!!!!!! But I think cleaning should involve dusting and hoovering which didn't appear to have been done .

Review 96:Room was a good size

Review 97:Guests who do not consider other guests, at night was kept awake with people shouting under our window until 3.30..we paid for another night to get some sleep..

Review 98:Love the hotel..everything was great..staff and food

Review 99:Being woke up at 1am and kept awake by guests who were shouting under our window until gone 3.30..booked another night to get some rest..it cost a lot of money but we needed some sleep..

Review 100:The friendliness of the staff and they will do anything for you

Review 101:Main issues is no air conditioning. It wasn't even that hot when we stayed around 22 degrees but the bedrooms were so hot you couldn't sleep. A tiny fan provided which of little benefit and windows open 2 inches. Would be fine in winter months.

Review 102:Rooms well decorated Lots of parking

Review 103:Nothing

Review 104:We had a really good deal. The room was very spacious and clean and it was very quiet. We were tucked away at the back of the hotel and the double aspect room had no view from either window. However, it was ideal as we didn't hear any other guests at all. The bed was very comfortable; I have had a hip replacement and don't usually sleep well unless I'm in my own bed, but I slept really well.

Review 105:On check-in the first thing mentioned was that our room was directly above a planned evening function and when asked til what time, this was not answered. This did not cause us an issue as we were out for the evening. The hotel prides itself on the spa facilities but on check-in we weren't shown how to get to them! The pool had parents and children in it from local gym membership, which stopped the offering of relaxation in a booked Spa hotel, which this clearly isn't! Very disappointed. Clearly not worth the money overall for a spa hotel. The pictures are deceiving!

Review 106:Breakfast had a good choice of options. Service was quite attentive.

Review 107:The bed was very uncomfortable on one side of the bed, shower was a lovely temperature then go fcold for a few minutes

Review 108:Hotel room was lovely and spacious and a lovely balcony. Great amenities.

Review 109:Breakfast not included in room price

Review 110:Reception staff kept the bar going as late as we wanted. Spa and gym. comfortable and clean rooms. Powerful shower. Way better than your standard travel lodge/premier inn etc for only slightly more £

Review 111:Checking out was complicated and time consuming. I had booked two rooms separately with a special offer as our adult daughter was unexpectedly able to join us. At check out rooms were both being charged at a higher rate and their systems did not show the offer rate. Staff were lovely but I had to wait quite a while for a more senior member of staff as the lady on the desk had no authority and it was Sunday morning. It was only possible to sort as I had the confirmation e mails from the booking. Com. A lady in front of me with a similar problem was very angry and there was a very long queue. Check out took at least 30 minutes and could have been embarrassing. This spoiled a lovely stay and we would be reluctant to stay again in case a similar thing occurred. In every other hotel where we have booked with this website payment was taken on arrival and was then very simple at checkout. Disappointing.

Review 112:Lovely hotel good rooms good breakfast.

Review 113:DEPRESSED room with NO view - airco noices under window - broken douche fixed but nothing cleaned - room was never cleaned - no communication within the personel - swimmingpool for the hool village - acces for the hotel gast from 15:00 untill 18:00. Lies: we only have one big room for 3 persons ?!? in the entire hotel ?!? - tea time: waited 45 minutes for sandwitches! Was order in advance !!! NEVER SEE US AGAIN - CAME HOME EARLIER

Review 114:food in restaurant is excellent

Review 115:The staff went out of their way to store safely our tandem (which we were allowed to bring into the hotel!) The dinner options were good. A problem with the balcony door was resolved quickly and to our total satifsaction.

Review 116:Bathroom and hallway looking tired.

Review 117:Good rate for overnight stay. Comfortable room. Powerful over-bath shower. Attractive reception area. Literally just slept at the hotel so didn't explore or use any facilities.

Review 118:The television didn't work even after a member of staff re programmed it..milk provided in room doesn't taste like milk ..could do better I think ..

Review 119:Lovely room...excellent black out curtains..so slept well..very clean.excellent shower too...overall very impressed..

Review 120:Bathroom had stained ceiling tiles and hole in door where hook was ripped off, but when told, the staff fixed all very quickly.

Review 121:Convenient location and great upgraded room in size and comfort.

Review 122:We ordered room service as a treat and the food was pretty poor. I had the goats cheese salad and it was crammed into a breakfast bowl and certainly not worth £7. My daughter ordered chips and sticky toffee pudding (as a treat) and the pudding was enormous and very dry (in a breakfast bowl again) and a number of the chips were inedible. The girl that dropped it off was very pleasant but her pinny looked as though she had done a double shift in the pot wash! And when we left the room to get breakfast the tray was still left outside on the floor. Breakfast didn't offer any high protein meals.. I'd omelettes or poached eggs

Review 123:The staff we lovely both at reception and the retreat, my daughter and I came alone for a "girls night away" and has a lovely time

Review 124:Lack of air conditioning, room was stuffy and hot. That said, we would definitely choose to stay again. A/C should be a future project and this hotel would then be a 10

Review 125:Cleanliness of the hotel, welcoming ambience, friendly, helpful and professional staff, general layout and comfort of public areas. Restaurant was very good. The management are definitely doing something right here.

Review 126:Lift didn't work . Signs to gym non existent internally .

Review 127:The absolutely excellent restaurant . I scored 9-9.5 for my dinner both nights Executive room very adequate . Excellent gym and pool

Review 128:it was very silly that my children could not go in the pool with an adult when we arrived at the hotel - they were very disappointed

Review 129:rooms & room set up for us as a family

Review 130:Despite email requesting availability of treatments beforehand , I did not get a reply so presumed we could book when we got there , not the case, they were fully booked. On check out the operations managed argued the rate I had booked via booking.com, very embarrassing , would not stay at this hotel again due to the absolute rudeness of this man

Review 131:Layout of hotel was good , easy to find, staff very nice and food was good

Review 132:Restaurant was a disappointment, service was extremely slow. The hotel was full and they had a function in addition, it was quite obvious that they were unable to cope with the numbers of guests requiring food over the weekend.

Review 133:the 'little extra's' in the rooms, like bottled water, full compliment of beverages, biscuits, free wifi in rooms, very thoughtful. Hotel reception very friendly and efficient.

Review 134:Room very warm no air con. Do not like the pre registration fees, too complicated make it simpler either pay or not pay my bank account is all messed up as took out 2 payments and waiting for one to be returned, I have never come across this before. Need to speed up checking out process as well

Review 135:Good size room

Review 136:we were not told that the hotel had 2 wedding parties in that weekend, so the restaurant was very busy. had to eat in the bar on our last night, and found breakfasts disorganised. we were not advised that fried eggs had to be ordered prior to standing in queue at the servery.

Review 137:Walls were paper thin even though we had upgraded to executive. Even heard the hair dryer next door after their showers at 7 am on a Sunday morning

Review 138:Hotel well situated and facillities were good

Review 139:I found the hotel to be very relaxing for our overnight stay. Our room was comfortable, although the bed could have been a bit better quality. The restaurant was fine, although on the night the service was slow. However, the staff were pleasant

The Fine Print

Restaurant reservations should be made before arrival, especially during busy times (e.g. Valentine's Day, Christmas, etc).
