Reviews for Elsinore Hotel

Review 1:Only negative was the mattress

Review 2:Brilliant location right on the promenade. Room was newly redecorated. Walk out of the door and straight away you are on the sea front.

Review 3:Duvet was slightly too small for bed. Otherwise excellent.

Review 4:Nice modern room. Clean. Great cooked breakfast included. Excellent value for money. Parking outside free from 4pm in winter. Dinner avaliable if you prebook it.

Review 5:Towel rail in bathroom far too high to be practical and no shelf to put toiletries and things on.

Review 6:Location great and staff helpful and very pleasant. Breakfast well cooked and plentiful. We understand that the hotel is being refurbished as it is obviously very run down but our room was large and clean and modern. It was good value for money.

Review 7:decor in hallway and stairs cleaniless however do fully understand having catering background myself that it is going under refurbishment our room had already been done goid value in the end rome wasnt biult in a day so happy

Review 8:good value for the price the room we had had recently been refurbished found the receptionist kerry to be very friendly and helpful

Review 9:It was a bit cold on new years eve but the heating was on there was only a summer quilt on the bed but in all fairness I had opened the window for a while in the afternoon on arrival!

Review 10:The staff are terrific,it was new years eve and my evening meal was at the iris a sister hotel, the staff were so friendly and helpful the breakfast was amazing, evening meal top class..

Review 11:I have stayed here several times for a night as I work in Llandudno & rather than the trouble of sorting transportation on a staff evening it is easier, safer and a cheaper option to stay here. The last time I stayed I had a beautiful double room, whereas previously I had stayed in a family room, which was so much more basic.

Review 12:It's pretty scruffy inside, tatty carpet (including a pattern of iron burns), marked walls, wonky flooring on my corridor, poor decoration in the room, broken bed frame underneath, terrible TV/freeview box (old style "portable" that buzzed all the time) the shabbiest and oldest curtains/rail I have ever seen, a shower from the 70s, a grubby pull cord for the bathroom light. It needs a major refurb, scaffolding is up and it doesn't look to bad from the outside but it is very worn inside. It served it's purpose - I had a bed, a lockable door, the bedding was clean and it was warm but it wasn't worth the price paid.

Review 13:The location is great The staff were pleasant Breakfast was fine The heating was good, both the water and radiator Parking outside is free between 4pm and 10am and £3.00 for the daytime (winter rates) Wifi was good downstairs in the front room

Review 14:No lifts.

Review 15:Beatifull room freshly decorated ,sea view ,good breakfast ,staff very friendly, bet the prices will go up when all the renovations are finished,

Review 16:Having booked an evening meal before travelling when we arrived we were informed that we had to go to its sister hotel which was a bout 100+ yards from our hotel not when it is raining.

Review 17:The hotel was very clean and tidy and all the staff were very friendly and polite.

Review 18:Booked two rooms. The newly refurbished room was modern and very comfortable but in the second room, the carpet was dirty, curtains nearly falling off the rail and the bed was very uncomfortable

Review 19:Excellent helpful staff. Great sea view from the front bedroom. Very good cooked breakfast

Review 20:A little dated - shower holder not functioning

Review 21:The location was great - the building is very nice and the breakfast was good. was a great base for New Years Eve festivities-

Review 22:Breakfast time could be a little longer than 8.30am to 9.30am as having 2 young children and a baby it was a bit of a rush to make breakfast

Review 23:The bedroom itself was fantastic

Review 24:Room had a window which would not close properly, allowing rain in. When reported to staff we were told they knew about it! Why wasn't it repaired prior to our arrival? Hotel was dated, carpets well worn, stairs were dirty and in a poor state of decor. Breakfast of a low quality.

Review 25:Location, close to town centre. Staff member serving breakfast was helpful.

Review 26:The cleanliness of the room left a lot to be desired. The heater was broken, and when I first arrived the door to my room wouldn't lock. To their credit they did fix the lock within an hour.

Review 27:Great location. Staff were very polite and friendly.

Review 28:Wires in the halls, needed painting.. King size was two singles. Shower needed a shower curtain.Reception, hall and stair areas need a lot of work and cleaning. Couldn't pick up wifi.

Review 29:Room was nice with views of the sea front. Price was cheap.. Ideal for one night.

Review 30:Breakfast was nice cooked but always cold. A microwave would solve problem The music in breakfast room was disco and far too loud

Review 31:Quiet, when in room with great view

Review 32:1) No Lift 2) Breakfast served time is very less (they close by 9.30am!!!! 3) Property is very old and rooms shows shaginess 4) Heaters were not working in the room 5)

Review 33:Hotel was in excellent location. with door opens, you have the view on atlantic.

Review 34:The stairs to deep as my wife nearly lost a balance when going up and the same when going down stairs. Maybe needs a life. ! They didnt tell us where the Fire Exit if happen of fire trap !

Review 35:Relaxing and clean hotel

Review 36:The furniture in the room was a little tired, but it didn't bother him too much.

Review 37:I booked this for my brother as he loves the area. The location of the hotel was excellent, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The price was very good. The breakfast was small but very nice with unlimited toast. The bed was comfy and the room was clean. Overall very good and he would stay again.

Review 38:For gbp32,I shouldn't complain that it's high time for refurbishment and get the lift going again because dragging a heavy suitcase up the narrow stairs is a killer

Review 39:The full English breakfast was great as the location

Review 40:Our room had been fully refurbished sea veiw really comfy beds bathroom excellent with lots of toiletries clean towels everyday (was not expecting this) staff were really friendly, the Elsinore is going through a lot of refurbishment at present, but to be honest you would not be aware of it. We will not have any hesitatation about staying at this hotel again. Very good value for money.

Review 41:Place needed major refurbishment. Security light from neighbouring hotel was too bright - kept us awake all night. Bad smell coming from our extremely small bathroom.

Review 42:The price and location.

Review 43:We stayed for four nights, on the second night when emptying the bath the bathroom flooded. When we asked for someone to look at this the maintenance guy could barely understand what we were saying to him as his English was very poor and then tried telling us this was normal an was OK. We had to put up with this the duration of our stay.

Review 44:Rooms appeared nice enough. Receptionist was lovely and waiting staff were very pleasant.

Review 45:I had to go up two flights of stairs and walk a distance to my room , no lift and have a painful hip... Not shown where room was... Key wouldn't lock my door, breakfast burnt, offered no toast .. No wardrobe in room,

Review 46:Some of the staff don't speak a lot of English, but they're so helpful that I can't really complain! The only problem with our room was that the curtains were very thin and not quite wide enough, so quite a lot of light came in. I'm used to complete black-out when sleeping, so that was more tricky. If you're used to sleeping in low-light, it should be fine.

Review 47:Our twin room was obviously recently refurbished, with new furniture (bedside tables and wardrobe) as well as soft furnishings. We particularly loved the throws on the beds - fleecy one side and faux-fur on the other - very soft and snuggly! There were matching cushions too and the rest of the bedlinen was pure white, crisp and clean. The room was larger than we had expected, as we had read that the rooms were basic and functional. The twin beds were at least 4', if not 4'6", each and there was plenty of room to walk around comfortably. There were 2 bay windows (rear of hotel, so no view), with a small table in each. One of the tables had a kettle and tray with the basics needed for tea/coffee (hint: always take a pint of milk if you don't like UHT!). The wall-mounted TV was generous too, at about 30", with plenty of channels to choose from, but I'm not an expert, as I don't watch that much. I'm not sure why so many reviewers are fussy about wifi, as I usually go on holiday to get away from such things, but maybe they're business folk. The wifi was fine in the communal rooms but sparse in the bedrooms. Then again, they don't advertise wifi in the rooms anyway. The en-suite was immaculately clean with the usual towels and shower gel/soap provided. I was impressed with the size of the shower, which was twice that of a usual shower cubicle. Breakfast was cooked to order and my egg was just as I had requested!

Review 48:Corridors shabby, refurbishment ongoing.

Review 49:Very friendly staff. location, free parking outside front of Hotel from 4.00pm to 10.00am. breakfast good, waiters great..

Review 50:The shower was useless wouldn't stay up had to hold it over myself! Room was cold radiator wasn't on and there was no where to put your cuppa had to make a cup of tea in front of tv

Review 51:Paid for room at front of hotel. Reception sent us to 108 at back of hotel through corridors that looked like a building site. The room was very cramped and hadn't been cleaned thoroughly. My partner needed to sleep as is ill so lay down on very uncomfortable bed to rest. He was woken up rudely an hour or so later saying he was in wrong room. We were not allowed to go to room we had paid for. When I asked the receptionist if there was any difference in rooms she said no. The next day I inspected the other room and it was twice the size and in considerable better repair. The room we were given was dirty, neither of us wanted to shower or use the bathroom generally. The bed was so uncomfortable my partner left in a worse state than when he arrived. The tv only had one channel and gave off an electric shock. We did have breakfast planned for the next day but the smell of dirty used oil made our stomachs turn.

Review 52:Fantastic location

Review 53:We had three rooms as a family one my daughter walked in and there was a man laying on the bed, the one my son and daughter in law were in had a leek through the ceiling and the one my husband and I were in was cold, no heating on with a quilt that did not even touch the sides of the bed we ended sleeping with our coats over us. When we left there was no manager available to complain to

Review 54:Location was great

Review 55:Hotel bar had no stock, hotel tired looking and in need of re vamp. Heating in room not working, which was a lroblem as it was winter.

Review 56:Hotel on beach front and close to amenities. Staff friendly. Hotel clean

Review 57:Room was a little cold, and during heavy rain the windows leaked. Also room adjacent to neighbouring hotel and the room was very noisy from 06.00 hours due to their ventilation system.

Review 58:Location, helpful staff.

Review 59:Where do we start? Firstly, our room was cold. The heating wasn't turned on until late afternoon, which the receptionist said was hotel policy, even on a very cold December day. Secondly, the room was clean but very shoddy with a bed that was more like a camp bed. The bathroom and shower were dirty. The TV didn't work and was more like something found in a skip from the 1970's. Sorry, but the list goes on and on. Never again!

Review 60:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good. The view was excellent from the front of the hotel.

Review 61:Shame some people have to leave bad comments. We paid £17.50 each for bed & breakfast in an ensuite room For the money spent it was excellent value. I could list things that weren't amazing but why? It's probably the cheapest place in the whole town. You get what you pay for but in this case I'd say you get more! 10 minute walk to the big venue and 5 minutes to the pier. Would return for sure

Review 62:Wouldn't stop me staying there again but facilities were basic. Undergoing renovation when we were there but clearly on the budget end. No lift would be an issue for some . Not me . Not a problem for me and I would use again for price.

Review 63:Very good value . Helpful staff. Great location .

Review 64:Very good low budget hotel, great location, had a lovely sea-view room, really nice and warm, breakfast was also excellent, great value for money friendly staff would go back again

Review 65:Is in need of decorating but at the price I paid, well worth the money!

Review 66:Wasn't sure what to expect after reading other reviews, but it was clean and the rooms were heated. One of the lightbulbs didn't work but they sorted it out straight away. Wifi worked in our room (sometimes) which was a bonus, as it was only supposed to work in the lounge. Breakfast was ok (son enjoyed it), but they could do with putting less vinegar in the water when making a poached egg, and also providing more butter on the tables.

Review 67:It was dated, filthy floors and walls seats just everything was dirty smelly and stained as soon as I walked in I started dry heaving it stunk that bad! The waiting room was the same and had a settee that looked about 40 years old and the springs were sticking out we had to carry luggage up 4 flights of stairs with a pram and the baby as there was no elevator the room was absolutely freezing cold and the door had about a 5 inch gap under it and the breeze that came under was a joke! It was that cold we had to sleep with our 1 year old for the whole trip and I did ask for a double bed but it was 2 singles pushed together and it was very uncomfortable.... the kettle was on the floor so that was a safety issue especially with the baby the bath was made for a child it was that small we could barley fit in it and we actually had a new refurbished room so I dread to think what the other guests rooms were like!!! We were left with no toilet roll or clean towels also ..... breakfast was tbh vile the mushrooms were pickled and you could just tell it was all old or cooked a day before and reheated we wasn't given extra for the baby do I had no breakfast as I had to give him mine and they would rashion everything you was only allowed to have 1 of everything and only 2 small butters so portions were miniature he seats were wood so again it was extremely uncomfortable staff were rude they left us to eat in the dark 1 morning as they didn't switch the lights on they only had 1 baby seat so if you were to late there was no were for your child to sit to eat! To be honest I could just go on and on about how bad it was we were 100% ripped off

Review 68:Nothing!!!!!!

Review 69:No internet in the rooms which is annoying. I've stayed there twice and never seen the bar open yet. Public areas are scruffy but the room I stayed in was fine.

Review 70:Location is good. The room was clean and warm enough. Bathroom and shower good too. I'd happily stay again if they sorted out the internet.

Review 71:Amazing value @ £29-75p (B&B) in a nicely refurbished room (no.202) on the 2nd floor with a splendid sea view. We enjoyed supper @ 'sister' establishment along the Prom. again amazing value at £36 incl. a bottle of Rioja @ £15. Where else can you get a very acceptable 'Dinner B&B' ( incl. Vino ) for £66 today.?!! Lovely, friendly, helpful Staff.

Review 72:Lots of stairs, no lift. Dangerous heater in the room - with only one leg and bald wires.

Review 73:Good sized room, recently refurbished bathroom, clean. Good location.

Review 74:A new mattress would be good, it was also a little cool in the room and please put stoppers on the ends of the curtain rails as they keep falling off !

Review 75:Great value for the price I paid.

Review 76:The most disgusting, dirty, damp and rotten place I have ever stayed in. Mold growing on the walls and shower curtain, pillows are 1cm thich, the bed was broken, windows wouldn't close and staff couldn't even speak English so had no idea what we were saying. Don't even get me started on the food (take a look at the pictures for the tea and coffee 'facilities'). Absolutely disgusting hotel which should be closed down by the health board immediately.

Review 77:The location was very good.

Review 78:The decor is awful, needs painting from top to bottom. The 1st room I was offered 114, I could not believe that the hotel would put any guest in there, decor, curtains so shabby, mattress wants throwing away just full of lumpy springs. The poor fish in the awful green tank water. The noisey drunk guests coming in at 1am and then continuing shouting and banging around till gone 3am and no one to stop them.

Review 79:The receptionist Erin very helpful and polite. The waiters were the same very polite, service was so quick. The bedding was lovely and clean and fresh towels

Review 80:It needs a lot of work, very very outdated

Review 81:Our room was fine as it'd recently been refurbished but others in our group hadn't been & we're very old & bartered

Review 82:Some areas could do with upgrading but perhaps it is work in progress?

Review 83:Having read some horror reviews I was unsure what to expect. Sure it's not the Ritz but certainly not as bad as some previous reviews. Carpets on stairs could do with updating but room 207 was clean and kitted out nicely. Could have been a bit warmer but that was a minor. Breakfast was good so happy all round for the money.

Review 84:No toilet paper or brush in downstairs loo. Shower in room didn`t work ie for hot water. No blankets just a coverlet

Review 85:Position on promenade. Friendly staff The price was modest through booking.com

Review 86:this hotel needs a manager who has worked in an hotel the closed bar and lack of furniture,we felt like going to a charity shop to buy them some,we tried to buy a shower curtain as it was filthy and too short.

Review 87:a good location on sea front

Review 88:Alteration to hotel going on .tired looking in need of a good makeover My room was noisey fan somewhere all day and night Room with a view try a dirty mattress on top of the roof

Review 89:Fab location Breakfast good

Review 90:Just a pity there isn't a lift as I found 3 flights of stairs hard going but I would still return will request seaview next time

Review 91:Lovely clean spacious room excellent breakfast and service

Review 92:Toilet water tank was making funny noise after use time to time. Would prefer to have breakfast little bit earlier (8:30am on Sunday)

Review 93:Good location, face to sea, easy to find, near to everything in Llundudno. Nice and cosy, thinking about the price.

Review 94:The noise from the room we were staying.it was very windy outside and it seemed the slates on the roof were flapping on roof window in the hall by our room.

Review 95:Location. Good breakfast.

Review 96:Shower curtain mouldy, no hot water in sink tap, small bedside and bathroom light not working, old shabby tired furniture.

Review 97:brilliant view, very good breakfast all staff brilliant and friendly.

Review 98:Disappointed that the bar was closed all night......Why? Sure......use economics in staffing.....but don't let-down the paying customer who expected better.

Review 99:A perfect location and great value.I'd guess that the owners already know of where some improvements need making.....they cannot be fools.Considering all things, you get what you pay for and if we wanted the 'Ritz'.......we would have paid for that.

Review 100:Room number 104 was a sham the curtain was hanging off the the tv wasold and had no reception asked to be moved then got room 204 the roomwas great but the bed spring had gone in the matress not very comfy onour backs but was ok for 1 night away but do not think I will book thishotel again the other hotels in the area were lovely and lit up at nightthis one was dark they had a bar and that was padlocked up so ended upgoing round the bars instead overall was not impressed with the hotel asno lift and needs a lot of money spent on it new decor throughout newbeds in every room a bar to be open and decent dining area tables andchairs we have had cheap deals off booking.com and they have been realgood but this hotel sorry it was dreadful would not even give 35.00again to stay here can not explain the sham we were in

Review 101:The staff at reception were helpful and the guy at breakfast wasfriendly

Review 102:Staff, unfreindly, refusing to change or refund without exorbitant charge. Filthy unrenovated rooms. Needs new owners and needs companies like booking.com to do something about outdated protocol when a customer has a major justified issue with a hotel particularly regarding refunding or exchange of room based on hygiene and health matters.

Review 103:Nothing

Review 104:Staff really friendly & helpful. This was our first visit since refurb began and we had the same room. New bed, furniture and decor. This is one of llandudnos least expensive hotels, great value for money, lovely, plentiful breakfast and, if as we did, you want to relax on the terrace with a drink, a view to die for on a nice evening. Doesn't have the facilities of the big, seafront hotels, but if thats what you want, PAY THEIR PRICES, if you want a nice, budget break with friendly, helpful staff then this is the place. We are returning in Feb for probably the best value Valentines weekend in Wales.

Review 105:Was a little disappointed with how light the curtains were in the room, with having two big windows they did let in light early in the morning.

Review 106:Good location, walking distance to all Llandudno attractions. We were pleased with the size of the room and bathroom. Room was clean and comfortable. Staff were lovely. We really enjoyed our stay.

Review 107:the smell as you walk in the front door was very unpleasent with wires hanging and plaster falling off the walls.

Review 108:the room was comfy and modern for the price! no faults atall!receptionist was polite and helpfull.

Review 109:The place is in serious need of decorating and a refit, the bed was lumpy and uncomfortable

Review 110:The location is perfect for the sea front/town centre/theatre

Review 111:Staff at the hotel were very friendly especially at breakfast. The hotel was very basic but really good value for money! It was right on the promenade and so close to town. We were able to park right outside too.

Review 112:Our room (207) overlooked the rear carparks, quite enough, but a lining to the curtains would of helped with the light pollution the carpark generates.

Review 113:Hotel is right on seafront, everything within a short walk. We had one of the refurbished rooms, room was very big and comfortable. Bathroom shower was excellent, rain fall / through ceiling type. Lots of clean towels and bedding. Room nice and warm. Breakfast was very comprehensive, fresh and friendly prompt service. I still cant believe how cheap it was. (remember that when you read some of the negative reviews!)

Review 114:No safe luggage storage...went to drop of luggage before check in time it wasn't secure. Waited 30 minutes at reception no staff around. Staff member came from outside to reception after having a fag and chatting to friends who clearly seen us go into the hotel. The room was NOT CLEAN found a plaster on my pillow... room 112.. the single bed was really uncomfortable and the mattress had clearly seen better days could feel the springs. The double in the room was ok but found used tubs under the bed. The shower... The shower curtain was vile... only had shower due to going to a gig night before otherwise wouldn't of used it. The curtains diddnt even fit the window! So alot if light came into the room so diddnt sleep well at all. Breakfast... got my friends order wrong after going over the order twice. Would not go back there exstreamly dissapointed.

Review 115:Was next to the sea and close to the centre and shops.

Review 116:Room was awful. Shower didn't really work. Door didn't feel secure. Bed was broken and squeaky-terrible nights sleep. Breakfast at 8 and had to pay more for earlier-not suitable when staying for work purposes! Although the room was cheap I had paid a similar amount at a different hotel in the area a few days before and got much better value for my money.

Review 117:Good location

Review 118:The shower curtain was not clean/old and they are not expensive, some places on the carpet was a little dusty and there was no place to put our shower bottles and scrubbers.

Review 119:The staff were very pleasant and the breakfast was good.

Review 120:The shower was poor and the water cold but the water in the sink was hot.

Review 121:Great location, warm and comfortable rooms, good food and very good value for money.

Review 122:No draught beer in the bar !!

Review 123:Room was clean, tidy & comfortable. Had recently been refurbished. Full facilities in the room. Excellent breakfast. Staff friendly & helpful.

Review 124:The location is perfect for town, a walk along the front or going to the pier. The hotel looks tired when you first walk in and as others have said its undergoing refurbishment. We got a newly finished room with a sea view and its was fantastic. Beds were comfy and room was spacious. Bathroom was beautiful but it was a wet room so make sure you dont leave anything on the floor as there is no screen or curtain so water gets eveywhere. DO NOT be put of by public areas. Breakfast was great and staff were brilliant.

Review 125:Parking was very limited and room was cold couldn't turn heating up on radiator

Review 126:Location was perfect staff were really helpful and friendly lovely breakfast excellent value for money

Review 127:The room was tatty, with broken furniture & the bathroom was dire. It had a cracked window, peeling walls & the shower was full of mould and had part broken screen & part shower curtain. The hotel also seems to have become some sort of half way house

Review 128:The breakfast & the friendliness of the staff. Clean bedding & towels.

Review 129:it was not clean (all landings were filthy),uncomfortable 3 quarter bed (not double as stated) + duvet cover did not fit duvet, cold room, no hand towels, paid extra for bath but had to ask after being given a room with shower, asked for more butter at breakfast but did not get it, booked for 2 nights but only stayed one ! and would not return

Review 130:location

Review 131:Stayed earlier in the year and its started to have a facelift. Breakfast great. Fantastic value for money.. Parking only £3. Room 204 newly refurbished. For £32 for 2 of us can't complain at all.

Review 132:Staff attitude was unacceptable. He was rude, unpolite and disrespectful. They offer a `special' deal for dinner at the Iris hotel, stayting that you get 3 courses for 13,50. We asked for full details and he quickly booked us for the night. Only after everything was booked, he said that the price might have increased a pound, and that he hopes we are OK with that. We were suspicious about this, something didn't smell right. We then went to the Iris hotel, to find out that it was actually 15,50. It seemed like a fraud to us and we didn't like the owner's attitude afterwards when we tried to cancel the dinner. Ridiculously small duvet and uncomfortable bed.

Review 133:Good location, nice views of the bay and close to amenities. Parking nearby is possible, and free after 4pm. We stayed in a good sized double room with ensuite. Very cheap and decent breakfast.

Review 134:step to bathroom; no shower curtain; shelf needed in bathroom; the bed needs an extra large duvet.

Review 135:Sea View + room was recently refurbished; Good lighting in room.

Review 136:Hotel needs a good cleaning. Did put us in a room which had been updated. but bed mattress was broken. No heating on. Will book somewhere else next time.

Review 137:Breakfast was ok. Location good. That was about it with this hotel.

Review 138:Room at back of hotel over looking kitchens generators for a few hotels - generators working most hours reducing sleep time - no bulb in light fitting so not light in the room at night - you get what you pay for

Review 139:Great location and cheap - you get what you pay for
