Reviews for Lainston House, an Exclusive Hotel
Review 1:Pricing of food and restaurant added 12.5% service charge plus charity donation without telling us, £5 for small bottle of water. Breakfasts expensive at £19 for poor buffet cold dry croissants etc
Review 2:Lovely location very comfortable good friendly stafff
Review 3:Unfortunately the cups in our room were dirty. It looked as though the dirty spoons had just been briefly rinsed under the tap and then placed in the clean cups, which resulted in a small pool of coffee in the bottom of both cups. Also the kettle would not stay on. We had to hold the switch until it reached boiling point. As we were already in our night clothes we did not mention this to a member of staff at the time, but meant to on our departure. Unfortunately we forgot to do this.
Review 4:The location and buildings are stunning. We very much enjoyed a stroll around them before continuing on our journey.
Review 5:Directions to the hotel could have been better. Don't use the postcode in your sat nav or you will end up half a mile away.
Review 6:Fantastic hotel, friendly staff, tastefully decorated. Restaurant first class.
Review 7:The heating didn't work. I couldn't bath my toddler because of that. We were promised extra blankets and electric heating but nothing was bought to us. Not much vegetarian options for dinner.
Review 8:The room and facilities.
Review 9:There was a Wedding when we arrived which took over large parts of the residents space, but the manager did arrange a reserved table in the bar. Dinner did not fit the high expectations . Valet parking availability, but check that your lights are off !
Review 10:Lovely bedroom and dining room.
Review 11:No handles for bath safety. Food well presented but minute amounts indining room and more expensive than necessary. Staff slow and unhelpfulin dining room . Need staff at reception who all speak good English.
Review 12:Beautiful old mansion. Lovely grounds. Good facilities. Good access toWinchester.
Review 13:We loved everything about our stay at the Lainston House. The groundswere spectacular, the room was spacious and wonderfully decorated, thefood was exceptional and the service was top notch. We will definitelybe returning on our next European vacation!
Review 14:My main course at dinner was disappointing (lamb could have been better and hotter, didn't particularly like chickpeas as main veg). Wine was not served when this course arrived and reminder necessary. Wine waiter a bit intrusive and irritating pre-dinner. Non- inclusive breakfast ( although excellent)
Review 15:Good atmosphere, friendly helpful staff, very comfortable hotel. Convenient for Winchester sightseeing.
Review 16:An incredibly welcome break from life in London, location is perfect and the house is beautiful. Staff were also great, we felt really looked after. Also worth visiting just for the restaurant and bar!
Review 17:The plumbing was not great in our room but they fixed it during our stay. But we also saw little things here and there that requires modernising, or repairing. Breakfast was fairly expensive at around £40 for two so make sure you get it included in the rate.
Review 18:excellent location with a great history. The staff are friendly, attentive and remember the little details as they learn what you like. The food was top notch and wine list as you would expect for a 5-star property.
Review 19:The three flights to our room were difficult, and I wish we'd been warned in advance to request first floor.
Review 20:Everything. While a pain to get to, our room was over-the-top nice. And the staff all stood out for their attentiveness.
Review 21:Being on the third floor - there was no lift.
Review 22:The Staff were very helpful and accomodating. Valet parked my car for me when I arrived and carried luggage up to my suite - thank you! Suite was beautiful with all amenities - I especially enjoyed the whirlpool bath. Wifi was the best I have had in any hotel. Food is exceptional.
Review 23:Nothing
Review 24:The staff( especially Bell the cat!), the place, the food, the location, the ambience, the falcons( especially Kevin)...and Judith the falconer!, the gardens, the rooms, the service........I could go on and on! A very special place
Review 25:Not overly impressed with their fitness room - very basic. Hotel lacked for other facilities eg Pool, spa, games room if you expect those.
Review 26:The bed! (TV 'in' bath was novel though not essential). Also the staff: very courteous and helpful. We were also lucky to have great weather to walk around grounds and local village.
Review 27:The seats in the family room for afternoon to were best suited to slim ladies not 14 stone blokes. The lay out of the breakfast buffet which was in a corridor
Review 28:Ambiance Décor Log fire En suite Bed Afternoon tea
Review 29:Check out at 12 would have been better - although I didn't request so it may have been possible
Review 30:Friendly staff & highly recommend juniper room, underfloor heating in the bathroom was a very nice surprise. Bed was very comfortable
Review 31:We arrived having booked a junior suite for me and my wife and a standard room for our two kids. Our suite was a real disappointment and we genuinely preferred our kids' considerably cheaper room! We asked if we could change rooms but were left waiting for an hour before we were eventually shown new rooms. We couldn't unpack and were generally underwhelmed by the service at that point. However, the alternative rooms - and subsequent service - were so good that it more than made up for the initial disappointment.
Review 32:The rooms we stayed in were superb. Huge and luxurious. Possibly the best room I've ever stayed in (though no view to speak of). The hotel's atmosphere was good and the staff very friendly. Nice grounds and an excellent location.
Review 33:Can't complain as we had a very short stay, alas less than one day.
Review 34:The location of the hotel is superb, bet it is very colorful in the summer, the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is very homely.
Review 35:Didn't want to leave!
Review 36:I was running a gift wrapping course at the hotel and the staff couldn't do enough. The room was fantastic and meeting room spacious. Loved every minute thank you
Review 37:1 Seriously overheated bedroom AND the window catch could not be opened without potential damage 2 Room, 'Hazel', was described as an 'Elegant room with individual features such as original wooden beams'. The room was in fact modern and the comment 'individual features' oversold an iron bedstead. 3 Booking confirmation words 'There is no meal option with this room' is not clear that breakfast is not in the room price. 4 Very slow service at dinner, and the dining room was not full. But the food was excellent.
Review 38:Excellent dinner and breakfast menus, food preparation and presentation. Comfortable drawing room and enjoyable teatime menu with leaf tea Helpful service at front desk and by sommelier and waiters.
Review 39:Breakfast was very ordinary for the price, toast was laid flat in basket so was like rubber, great shame!
Review 40:Staff were very helpful,lovely room,comfortable.
Review 41:I opted for the dining room and regretted it, to be honest. The choices were limited and expensive or really expensive, £45 for a 2 course meal is fairly steep, and 2 halves of a chicken breast and a smattering of vegetables left me still hungry, the food was of great quality though. My fault, I guess, I didn't think to eat in the bar instead.
Review 42:Really nice old building, beautifully kept, the staff were extremely nice and friendly and couldn't do enough to help. Room facilities were terrific - loved the coffee!
Review 43:Trying to find the place.......driving around in the lanes, I either missed any local signage or its not there!
Review 44:Comfort, style, attention to detail, friendliness of the staff....wish I could have stayed more than one night.
Review 45:the bathroom lights yellowish in colour as i suspect they had not been cleaned for a long time.the bedroom chair was worn out and in general the room needed a considerable upgrade to be regarded as a 5 star establishment, at present only a 3star rating would apply. The window sill had completely lost its covering of paint and was well on its way to rotting away. manager failed to address these problems and did not want to look at the room when requested to do so by myself.not good enough.
Review 46:lovely bathroom if the jacuzzi had worked.with the exception of the hotel operation manager the staff were pleasant and helpful.
Review 47:The dining room is far too small. It is cosy at best for evening dinner, but is completely useless for buffet-style breakfast. People keep bumping into one another or each other's chairs. We asked to sit on the terrace, but that was clearly inconvenient for the staff. This almost ruined the stay for us.
Review 48:The room was first-class (we booked one of the suites) and the house and gardens were a delight.
Review 49:Mix up on bill at checkout but that said the staff quickly resolved the problem. We couldn't make use of the swimming pool
Review 50:The location, staff, food, bedroom, bathroom
Review 51:Drawing room unavailable during our visit. Apparently it was being used by a furniture company to display their sofas. The lack of this facility in a country house style hotel is not acceptable. if the weather has been poor I'm not sure where guests were supposed to sit during the day or take afternoon tea etc. The hotel has to decide on its proirities and if facilities are not available then clients should be told when making a booking. A shame because everything else was first rate.
Review 52:Staff very attentive especially barman after we had waited sometime for dinner. Food excellent but not inexpensive. Try to include breakfast with booking. Room very comfortable and spacious. Very pleasant grounds.
Review 53:I wonder whether there is a sufficient number of staff in the kitchen and restaurant. On one occasion after being summoned to our table we waited for half an hour before getting even our mise en bouche. Admittedly other diners were served far more promptly. Lainston house is very expensive, and I judge this by the standard of first-class hotel restaurants in France. It was worth it for the stunning setting, but I must confess to a moment of surprise when I found that the breakfast was not included in the room rate.
Review 54:The house and grounds are really beautiful, making for a memorable stay. Our bedroom/sitting room and bathroom were of the highest standard of comfort. The staff are welcoming and the restaurant is pretty close to Michelin star quality.
Review 55:Nothing, would revisit.
Review 56:The food was up to the standards I have experienced from Michelin star chefs. Delightful amuse bouche thoughtfully included. The room had amazing views, the bathroom modernised and tasteful. Wonderful grounds to walk in before dinner, bar and restaurant retained delightful old character.
Review 57:Nothing !
Review 58:A beautiful building set on its own in the countryside with lovely grounds. Very private. We had a suite which was enormous, very comfortable and luxurious. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 59:Going down to breakfast and being offered two tables that had not been cleared and relaid. During our stay dishes were left on tables outside after the guests had long left.
Review 60:Wonderful views of the countryside. Drinks were exorbitant. GBP15.00 for a glass of wine. Doesn't correlate with prices at more luxurious hotels in the area.
Review 61:Great night spent here, excellent food, staff really polite and attentive will go back to stay again. Fantastic rate for the room through booking.com and got also got both rooms upgraded when we arrived
Review 62:The house and gardens are stunning, as is the elegant, contemporary interior design. The staff were wonderful, especially the very gracious, mature lady, who greeted us. Special mention must be made of the space age shower room, complete with lights and jets... We will return.
Review 63:Disliked energy saving bulbs in the wonderful chandeliers! So at odds with the stylishness of the whole hotel.
Review 64:The friendliness and service orientated staff. I loved the design and stylishness of the whole hotel and its grounds with one exception. See dislike.
Review 65:Not having a swimming pool
Review 66:Stunning location and stature of hotel
Review 67:The location was excellent being near enough to Southampton. The food was excellent and a good selection.
Review 68:The 7 course tasting menu was very good indeed
Review 69:The location, the atmosphere, the decidance, the food. Staff were very friendly.
Review 70:Beautiful walkin showers. Big room and bathroom
Review 71:Just a wonderful place to stay and we will be going back
Review 72:Beautiful property with character of old English country house it used to be and boasting fantastic grounds. Very modern bathrooms. TV in bathroom.
Review 73:No much really.
Review 74:Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had the tasting menu at the Avenue which was exquisite.
Review 75:The views and ambience of the property.
Review 76:Not being able to sleep due to other loud inconsiderate guests and slamming doors all night!
Review 77:The beautiful house and surrounding scenery
Review 78:Tired feel. Sense of more focus on the conference market. Unnecessarily elaborate food.
Review 79:Location
Review 80:Beautiful house hotel. Stunning grounds and very well decorated. Perfect romantic location or wedding venue!
