Reviews for The Vineyard
Review 1:Everything else was average. Spa especially was not relaxing and pool far far too cold to be of any use or enjoyment. Breakfast was a 45 minute wait.
Review 2:Dinner was excellent 1 member of staff on reception made all the difference
Review 3:The fridge in the room was at 20 degrees! The robes were both threadbare, short, scratchy and not at all luxurious for the price!
Review 4:The bed was amazing. The spa pool was lovely but it could have had a few more lotions and potions to try.
Review 5:Had a problem with the TV in the room which we forgot to mention, its a network based system that constantly crashed. It obviously didn't bother us too much as we even forgot to mention at checkout.
Review 6:Beautiful setting, great facilities and if you like Wine then this is the place. Amazing cellar, and great chef. Very fast inclusive wi-fi if you need to connect to the world while you are there.
Review 7:Luxurious and comfortable surroundings, beautiful room with a huge bathroom, lots of little extras such as nespresso machine, bottled water etc. Very warm and friendly staff
Review 8:Very over priced. Swimming pool-cold, jacuzzi not working, taps in the bathroom and shower sticky; breakfast menu was poor with dry and burned croissants, very dry rolls, almost all meats were eaten, fruits were dry, the cooked breakfast arrived at my table after 25 minutes. No toast was offered at all.
Review 9:Easy reach from M4
Review 10:I thought the room was very ordinary , and I wasn't very happy when my partner who suffers from a bad back found herself sleeping in a dip between the bed , it was a double bed but just 2 single beds put together !! I wouldn't expect this in a 3 star hotel let alone a 5 star I don't mind paying money for nice hotels and as I do a lot of travelling I prefer to spend the extra but This was not acceptable after paying £260 for the night
Review 11:The hotel it's self is lovely with brilliant facilities , from the bar with a open fire and the beautiful open cellar , the food was also beautiful and well presented
Review 12:It really is lovely, the jacuzzi was closed due to a leak which was the only minor issue but the rest of the spa facilities were excellent
Review 13:Excellent venue, staff, suite and atmosphere. The food and drink are also excellent
Review 14:Breakfast staff were not as good as you would expect when paying this amount of money. The room was very good but the TV was strangely positioned in the lounge area so could not be viewed properly from the bed. Gym was OK but nothing special.
Review 15:Lovely setting, in the main friendly and helpful staff. Reasonable pool and spa. LIked the idea of buying wine by the glass to try rather than a whole bottle. Brought out a cake for husband's birthday.
Review 16:The fact that there was not enough lighting in the Bathroom.
Review 17:We very much enjoyed the setting, the fine dining at the restaurant, the gorgeous cellar, the gardens and the smiley and efficient staff.
Review 18:Menu over complicated with 5 options, 5 options, 10 options etc. Totally unnecessary in my view. Food though was excellent!
Review 19:tranquillity and wine selection
Review 20:The drinks are very expensive, service in the bar was slow. The room we were assigned was old and tired looking we moved to another room which was far better.
Review 21:The food was excellent the staff in the restaurant were very good.
Review 22:Room/ furniture/ carpet/ bathroom was a bit shabby and in need of updating. Restaurant very expensive. Nothing directly near the hotel-not in a town.
Review 23:Restaurant food delicious. Public spaces are very lovely. Close to Highclere Castle.
Review 24:-Mixed emails regarding booking, due to automated service and directcontact with the hotel, very confusing. No turn down on room despite firstnight with sister, then second night with husband on our weddingnight.Breakfast the first morning -cereal and a yoghurt took 45minutes,so I had to miss it.IRD And internal phone didn't work.Staffseemed disinterested, not all,but the majority. No anticipation ofneeds.Had higher expectations, based on recommendations and price.
Review 25:Hollie in the spa was fantastic.Beautiful hotel, great setting.
Review 26:Nothing
Review 27:I had the pleasure of staying at the vineyard hotel for one night. My hotel room and the hotel itself was luxury I have never experienced before with fantastic, attentive staff that left you wanting for nothing. The room was spotless, the food absolutely delicious and the afternoon tea the best I have ever had. This hotel is a must stay if you are in the area as you are treated like loyalty from the moment you arrive till the day you leave.
Review 28:The toiletries were average- the wifi was poor- everything else was excellent
Review 29:The staff were all very helpful - the food and wines were wonderful - the smiles all around us told the story. Second time there and will be back
Review 30:This was a motel in 4 star ish clothing. You can hear the m4 whenever you have the windows open, the staff are rude and fairly incompetent, the spa was dated with a cold jacuzzi and windows that look like they have never been cleaned - can't believe booking.com only allows a minimum score of 2.5 because reality was the place deserved a zero for the price.
Review 31:Evening meal was really poor (taste and length of time for each course) and incredibly expensive. When I fed this back I was thanked for my feedback and that was it.
Review 32:poor food selection for vegetarians, very expensive. the facilities are not safe, the shower ceramic handle was chipped so I cut my arm. I have got no sympathy when I made complain to reception.
Review 33:Value for the room - although very good I felt the price was a little high compared to other similar price accommodation I have stayed at
Review 34:Food / Ambience / Staff / Comfort - very relaxing and enjoyable experience
Review 35:The rooms do not warrant a 5* rating. They are relatively basic with no more than what you would expect in a 4*. The rooms are also quite dated and there was no view from the room. Based on the room rate which does not include breakfast, they are not great value for money.
Review 36:Lovely hotel with an excellent restaurant and facilities. Staff were attentive and the welcome was managed very well.
Review 37:I felt the spa facilities were quite basic for such a lovely hotel and staff. Definitely an area with scope for improvement.
Review 38:The staff were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Very relaxing from check in to check out!
Review 39:Wi-Fi was very poor the day I visited , staff did try to help but frustrating that I would not work when I need too.
Review 40:great room , food and staff were helpful
Review 41:The heating didn't work in the room, the decor and bathroom were tatty and the pool was cold and old. The whole place has seen better days. Not a proper five star hotel as far as I'm concerned.
Review 42:Good food and wine.
Review 43:Wine, food, staff, room, bed ... there was nothing I did not thoroughly enjoyed. The food was amongst some of the best I have sampled and the wine, a 2003 rioja (not many bottles left) was the perfect recommendation at the right price, can't wait to coma back for another visit :-)
Review 44:Some rooms are a very long walk from reception and restaurant areas. Over 'obsession' with high priced wine!
Review 45:Location, Staff, Great Food. Really lovely for a special occasion. Nice large rooms, excellent facilities including Spa.
Review 46:The lunch and dinner bills were wrong. The newspaper was wrong, the TV stopped working properly, the step in the room was slippery, the clock was put two hours ahead instead of one hour back, the lighting in the room meant all lights went on in the middle of the night and the coffee machine had decaf and only one non decaf pod, weird!
Review 47:The room and facilities and the staff were receptive to feedback and very helpful.
Review 48:No tea facilities as standard as it is an American style hotel.
Review 49:Lovely stay in September 2014, for a birthday treat. Ate in the restaurant on one night and the staff were so helpful and even described the food to us. When the bottle of wine we chose was not available they recommended a similar one but gave it to us for the same price as the one we chose, which was a good deal. Lovely spa which we took full advantage of, and the hot stone massage was fabulous. Really nice lunch in the spa too. The bar was lovely and the room was also supberb.
Review 50:Our luggage was taken and lost for about 40 mins. Had to ring reception3 times. Tv did not work and we were asked if we wanted to move rooms at10pm, but we were settled.
Review 51:Ambience. Food. Upgraded to a suite.Spa. Theatre costume design art workin public areas.
Review 52:Paying - it was painful. However, well with it for the occasion.
Review 53:The staff, rooms, food and of course the wines are superb at the Vineyard. Every effort is taken to ensure your stay is excellent and I can't speak highly enough about the staff - from the front of house to the cleaners - all engage with a smile and are pleasant and knowledgeable. The 5 matched wines we had with our meal were a perfect compliment to beautifully prepared and served dishes and everything from the moment we stepped over the threshold was perfectly managed.
Review 54:The room price was a bit expensive although a lovely room.
Review 55:Having the sommelier choose the wine to accompany each course then explain the wine and the choice. Really interesting.
Review 56:The air conditioning was barely working in the room. This was during the month of july so it was unbearable. Also, it was extremely loud. You had to choose between heat and/or noise while you were sleeping.
Review 57:The food was amazing, as was the wine, not to mention the friendliness of the staff, and their dedication to excellence. You can really tell that they are paying attention to the smallest details. I really appreciated the effort they put in to make us feel comfortable during dinner. The somelier was amazing. I know a lot more about wine now :) The setting is beautiful. If you are looking to relax, have a great meal, and drink great wine, this place is meant for you.
Review 58:Asked if we could eat bar food instead of 4 course tasting menu. Were ushered out of main restaurant into bright unpleasant 'California bar' which had 3 tables of suited men arguing over MacBooks. We ate out in Hungerford and the staff were indifferent to our needs.
Review 59:Got a nice and large room in the old building on a booking.com rate. Very nice room with sofa and enormous bathroom and extremely powerful shower. Would not have been happy to pay standard rate, high end but not 5* luxury, more, nice business hotel
Review 60:John the conceige was excellent
Review 61:Expensive
Review 62:Staff
Review 63:Not a lot
Review 64:THe FOOD
Review 65:Room needs modernising. We were in thebokdbwing. But price wascheaper so ok.
Review 66:Comfortable bed and good facilities.
Review 67:The check-in staff was awkward, disorganized, and slow.
Review 68:The food & wine.
Review 69:Slow service in lounge area
Review 70:Restaurant, room, wine , reception staff
Review 71:Staff were exceptional, food and wine were excellent and loved the comfort of the room.
Review 72:Woken at 2.00am by slamming of doors in passage outside.
Review 73:Perfect room Also possible to walk out of the hotel into lovely countryside
Review 74:Nothing!
Review 75:Comfy bed; lovely staff; great food
Review 76:The professional staff. They were clearly well trained .
Review 77:The door key card was tempremental.
Review 78:The food was superbly cooked.
Review 79:Small TV Staff a little over keen at times but it was a quiet Sunday evening
Review 80:Spacious Junior Suite
Review 81:nothing it was perfect
Review 82:food polite staff in fact very polite
Review 83:The price of the gourmet dinner
Review 84:Breakfast
Review 85:The long walk from reception. It happens but worth the walk
Review 86:The Suite was fabulous everything a suite should be. Very comfy bed.....
Review 87:As above
Review 88:Poor supervision of breakfast by him personally. A disaster! Service poor and worst Black Pudding and Bacon ever!
Review 89:Do not care for the food at all.
Review 90:The wine was excellent but the venison was the chewy and it shouldn't have been
Review 91:Leaving.....
Review 92:Staff were brilliant, friendly and funny. Just the break away we were both looking for. Will definitely return...
Review 93:Location is far from anywhere Slow service at restaurant
Review 94:Room is spacious, clean, comfortable, well equipped. Good wifi.
Review 95:The food was superb but the wine tasting addition to the menu was disappointing considering the Vineyard's reputation for their fine wines. Of the the five a couple were cheaper & lacked quality. We weren't impressed with a red Valpolicella paired with a lovely Sea Bass dish! Left feeling we would have been better having a single bottle of something nice. Doesn't take away from the very high standard of food which was presented beautifully - but the service fell short. We were left sitting for quite a while - the table next door had two courses before we had our first. Too long for this standard and price of restaurant.
Review 96:I have to compliment the Vineyard staff. They are exceptional. Every single person has time to stop and share a few words. The service is again excellent. You will be assured a lovely stay. The Restaurant at the Vineyard is gourmet but they do now have the California Bar which allows you to eat something simpler. During my four days I alternated where I ate in the evening. Again, lovely attention to detail.
Review 97:Overall stay good, but pricey for what it was. As the hotel doesn't have grounds/ gardens, I believe it would be reasonable to charge maximum £190 per night B&B. If you want to stay in the hotel only, drive around the area or have a romantic one night stay it is perfect. But if you intend to do some possible "walks"/ outdoor stuff, then you'd need to either drive to your destination or walk on the side of the road as there is no pedestrian path to the villages nearby. Mini bar doesn't have much in it, only a few soft drinks. The Spa is nice but pretty small, there were about 8 in the spa when we were there and it felt very cramped. Food is nice, nothing spectacular. We were expecting a great meal given the price charged on the menu (£99 for 7 small, tapas style portions). Plates were very well presented, but lacked taste/ were very bland. We had been to a one Michelin Star restaurant in London a week before that charged the same price as The Vineyard gourmet restaurant, but the difference in the level of cooking was very much evident.
Review 98:The hotel is lovely, the room we stayed in was big and very nice/ comfortable. The hotel itself is very nice and luxurious. The Spa is nice, although pretty small for the hotel capacity. Nice for a weekend/ one night romantic break. Food is nice (not excellent)- the plates are presented very nicely, but lacked in flavour. Great for trying different wines as they have 30k varieties in the cellar. Overall a good stay, but pricey for what it was.
Review 99:Room was disappointing, and not as shown ion the website, ired and datedthe tv stopped work and the plug in the wash bowl would not open toallow water to drain.
Review 100:Staff were excellent and attentive, evening meal was spectacular
Review 101:British weather!! But not the hotels fault!!
Review 102:Very good staff attentive and friendly, very good restaurant and roomswere fresh and clean with great bathrooms and showers. Would highlyrecommend and stay again.
Review 103:Being awoken at 7 am by a loud vacuum cleaner.
Review 104:Friendly, attentive staff. Warm welcome and farewell. The staff greeted us as we parked and carried our luggage to and from the car. Superb food and wine. Great fun comparing New World and Old World wines matched with the tasting menu.
Review 105:Would have liked tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Thought the buffet breakfast was meagre for the price - not good value.
Review 106:The staff were very friendly and helpful, the public areas comfortable, light and a lovely mixture of traditional and contemporary, the decor in the bedroom was good and the bed extremely comfortable. Dinner was excellent. In all a very enjoyable stay.
Review 107:Fantastic all round. The rooms are beautiful and dinner amazing all delivered with friendly professional staff, couldn't have asked for a nicer night away.
Review 108:We know the hotel well and nothing stands out as being unpleasant.
Review 109:We are always very comfortable and staying on business trips makes the work element more relaxing. We will be back!
Review 110:Wifi did not work
Review 111:Room too hot, temperature impossible to control
Review 112:Everything - it was amazing
Review 113:Rooms looking a bit tired.
Review 114:Reception on arrival very good, on departure a bit slow.
Review 115:Lovely friendly staff, couldn't do enough for us and really made our stay feel special.
Review 116:Paid a lot of money for two singles beds put together could go on ... Wouldn't recommend !!!!
Review 117:Loved the patio we had outside our room. Size of room. Swimming pool and hot tub.
Review 118:Everything especially the food ans service.
Review 119:Rooms felt a bit dated and lacked individual touch. Breakfast was chaotic but staff great about it.
Review 120:Service, food and cocktails
Review 121:Junior staff not so. Very slow bar service on all occasions
Review 122:Senior staff are v professional
