Reviews for No1 Hotel & Wine Lounge
Review 1:A little bit of confusion over our room booking when we arrived meant we originally went into a different room - it was still nice but not the one we'd booked. The hotel staff resolved this very quickly & we moved into our preferred room - they were very accommodating and friendly and we had a lovely stay.
Review 2:Warm & cosy ambiance - loved the fairy lit twigs in our room & the roll top bath
Review 3:Made us feel so at home. Provided a twin room for the kids right next to our double. (Rooms 6 and 7). Kids room had twinkly lights! Were happy for our dog to join us in our room and the restaurant. We ate tapas in the restaurant and it was divine, beautiful food. We slept very well. Room was comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was a great choice, but we had the full english and it was the best weve ever had, delicious. Wholeheartedly enjoyed our stay. Would highly recommend.
Review 4:Cobwebs on the ceiling. Door was hard to shut
Review 5:Very friendly and attentive staff. Great value for money. Excellent choice of breakfast which was freshly made to order. Would definitely visit again
Review 6:We had to go outside to get to our room in an adjoining building and the back entrance was locked so we had to walk in the rain and wind to the front entrance. The pull out bed was extremely uncomfortable, we had two towels between three people and a bag of laundry was left in our room.
Review 7:The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was lovely.
Review 8:The cleanliness could be improved. It wasnt dirty but down the backs of draws hadn't seen a hover in a long time. We had thick dust on the bed head and a discarded biscuit wrapper behind the draws (found plugging in the mobile) The breakfast could do with a little improvement as well. It took 3 days before we got everything we ordered.
Review 9:Staff very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable. We liked the sister Italian restaurant over the road. All in all it is a really nice place to stay
Review 10:The only down side was that we were charged an extra £15 for the room as we weren't down as having kids but I booked it for 3 with booking.com. The hotel was that good though that it wasn't an issue.
Review 11:The room was fantastic. We hadn't eaten so decided to try something from the tapas bar, the food was stunning. Would love to go back again but as a couple as our daughters was a bit bored. The staff are really friendly and helpful.
Review 12:Not a case of didn't like like, but bathroom was quite small. This is a very old building and only so much you can do with space. Not many electrical outlets. An extension cord or two would help with that.
Review 13:Loved this place. Lots of character, clean and fresh rooms and beds. Great cooked to order breakfast. BUt honestly the highlight for me were the staff. They were the friendliest, and happiest bunch, I have seen in a hotel. Great place to stay.
Review 14:Staff were excellent, room fantastic food in the Tapas bar was great and the Italian restaurant was the best we've eaten in a long time.Would definitely recommend and we'll certainly stay again.
Review 15:We booked to have a meal at the Tapas bar within No1, which was not good, waited over an hour for any food, then they forgot to bring the starters and unfortunately not like any tapas we've ever seen before.
Review 16:The room was lovely, nicely decorated and well maintained. Breakfast was very good plenty of choice and nice spaced out tables. quite a warren of seating areas and levels. The area is stunning.
Review 17:My wife has poor vision she found it hard to see the steps having tartan carpets.
Review 18:Nice and warm. Excellent breakfast. Good parking at the rear of the hotel.
Review 19:Dirty cups in room, and open bubble bath left on side of bath and hairs in bath
Review 20:Loved food and drinks staff friendly just a few little changed from last time
Review 21:I was doubtful that the hotel could match the reviews I read on the internet and present such good value for money all those fears were gone as soon as we arrived everything was excellent, staff, breakfasts, facilities, we are planning our next visit! Absolutely brilliant!
Review 22:To make it even better, the initial welcome could have been slightly warmer - say "hello" before you start explaining all about the breakfast! and some local info about walks would have been good. But really it was very good, and great value.
Review 23:Bedrooms were great - quite quirky, but in a good way. Spacious and warm. The breakfast was excellent too - full English among all the choices, and even fresh raspberries and strawberries featured. Fantastic value! The picture is of Linhope Spout - a local beauty spot (a short drive then a nice walk- great afternoon out in fine autumn weather)
Review 24:In a room at the rear and was woken at 4.50 by somebody getting ready in the room above. Floors creaked and groaned. Not a good nights sleep
Review 25:Helpfull staff and great breakfast.
Review 26:Great location in order to explore the Northumberland coast and Borders. Friendly staff were always kind and helpful. Room was spaceous and decorated with many unique features. Memorable stay.
Review 27:The staff were extremely helpful-they went to some trouble to accommodate my requirements and facilitate my having an early breakfast before departure. They clearly evidenced their desire that customers should have a good stay.
Review 28:We only stayed for 4 days, next time it will be for at least a week.
Review 29:The location together with a comfortable hotel and friendly staff are a good mix for a very enjoyable stay. The breakfasts are to die for. and the tapas is excellent. What more do you want.
Review 30:The only minor negative was there was no outside window to get fresh air in our room but it wasn't really a problem. Room was great otherwise.
Review 31:We liked everything especially the lovely tapas served on Sunday evening.
Review 32:I booked online to have a room with a bath. After a 6 hr drive I arrived to find they had moved me to a room with a shower as they had double booked. I left, stayed at the hotel down the road. They should have let me know. Very poor to presume it would be ok. It wasn't.
Review 33:Staff were apologetic and helped find another hotel that had a bath
Review 34:Nothing. It was a great experience all round.
Review 35:The cosy and unusual decor, a bit "Babes in the Wood"!! Really comfy bed, and an enormous bath which was fantastic to soak in, after a day spent on wild and windy Northumberland beaches. Excellent breakfasts, huge portions - but just make sure you arrive at the time you have stated the night before, or your cooked breakfast might be a little cool. But all very well presented.
Review 36:Breakfast choice had to be made the night before and the eggs benedict I selected was dreadful. I would have sent it back, but as there was clearly only one member of waiting staff and one member of kitchen staff, decided I was unlikely to get anything better. Checkout was also done by the only member of staff on duty.
Review 37:Very comfortable bedroom with good facilities.
Review 38:The in-house restaurant served Tapas which isn't my favourite but that's just personal taste. There a plenty of alternatives within a few yards of the front door,
Review 39:I liked the room and being able to park so close to the room.
Review 40:Nothing
Review 41:Very stylish small hotel with unusual but pleasant décor and a Spanish theme in the restaurant. Very comfortable rooms and excellent breakfast, including a range of lovely fresh raspberries and strawberries and huge cooked breakfast. Excellent value for money
Review 42:Beautiful interiors, young staff but more than happy to meet guests requests. No sign of any senior staff or management but that did not stop us receiving excellent service. Rooms clean and extremely well presented decor quirky and original. Rooms small but every comfort, crisp clean white bed linen always a good sign. One criticism shower needed new seal around edges which had black mildew present but some regular use of bleach would sort.
Review 43:Exceptional hotel, great value for money. We had a room with a roll top bath in the bedroom along with an ensuite shower room, it was a real touch of luxury. Dined in the bar in the evening which is a tapas restaurant, serving some of the best tapas I have ever had. A truly exceptional hotel and restaurant
Review 44:The only thing that was difficult was the combination of the bar and tapas restaurant - we arrived from a long walk needing a drink but aware that our boots and appearance were rather different to those eating a meal.
Review 45:- bedroom design, roll top bath and trees with fairy lights! - help with phone no for taxi -great choice of breakfast - loved the salmon and scrambled egg and freedom to make own toast etc. - we were walking St Cuthbert's Way and the position and price were perfect
Review 46:This hotel was fantastic from start to finish and the staff were a delight and couldn't do more for you, tapas were delicious. We can't wait to go back very soon
Review 47:Imaginative decor combined with excellent facilities and helpful staff. Food and drink were good and reasonably priced>Booked a full week in 2016 for ourselves and a night for my inlaws
Review 48:Nothing came to mind
Review 49:A charming hotel, a spacious room with reasonable sized bathroom with a toilet brush supplied, the first one I've seen in the UK. Free parking at the rear of tHe hotel
Review 50:There were no meals available in the evening for the two nights that we stayed however the sister restaurant across the road (Milan) was a great alternative.
Review 51:Room was beautifully furnished, loved the large bathroom with roll top bath. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 52:We loved everything about this b+b the staff were really friendly and helpful breakfast was lovely it's well worth the money and we'd stay there again.
Review 53:Room was great, very light and airey. Especially liked private parking bay outside door made getting unloaded and loaded up again so much easier with having 2 young boys with us.
Review 54:Excellent place to stay from the comfortable, clean and lovely decor of the rooms, the welcoming and helpful staff, the high quality and choice of breakfast and the excellent Tapas served each nigh make No 1 Hotel & Wine Bar the Numero Uno place to stay if you are touring Northumberland. We will be staying here again without doubt.
Review 55:Main staircase to rooms not vacuumed regularly enough. A tiny point but it made me unneccesarily wary of room cleanliness. The room and room facilities were very clean as were all the other public areas.
Review 56:Fantastic breakfast choices. Lovely, friendly and helpful staff
Review 57:Nothing!
Review 58:The atmosphere of the Highlands throughout the Hotel. The Kingsize bed!! Being able to have dinner there at night. Reasonable access to Lindesfarne.
Review 59:The cooked Breakfast wasn't great.bed was a slightly uncomfortable.
Review 60:Beautiful hotel, staff are friendly and polite, room was stunning and great location.
Review 61:Our particular room (in annex) was hot as it had no opening windows.
Review 62:Pleasant staff, attractively decorated room, great tapas menu available for evening meal. Centrally located in a charming small town.
Review 63:The darkness of the decor in the hotel was a little depressing. The narrow stairway lighting not very good.
Review 64:Ideal central location for touring the area.
Review 65:The hotel must be one of the unique comfortable I have ever stayed in. The Room itself has unique fairy lighting wrapped around dried decorative branches which surrounding the resest windows which give a a very delightful glow and soothing ambiance to the room. A free stand ing old fasioned style bath is also in the main bedroom area giving it a decadent feel.A separate excellent en suit with shower completes a superb room. Very suitable for a romantic week end away..
Review 66:We were in room 9. Small twin bedroom and narrow shower room. Had asked for a double and it was our 30th wedding anniversary. Had to move a bed to get into one of the bedside cabinets then push it back. Wardrobe is a rail in front of the window which makes the room dark when used. Very hot stuffy room no windows to the outside which you could open for fresh air. Room in the middle of 2 corridors. Could smell smoke from people smoking outside. Cob webs above one of the beds hairs in the shower. They were serving coffes etc outside the hotel as it was the festival when I asked for a free refil I was told you didn't get one I drew the girls attention to the board which said free refill she then went to ask someone who said they weren't giving free refills today as it was the festival. I found this strange then someone said they're obviously being greedy and trying to make as much as they can. Next time I looked the sign had been removed. Wifi was very temperamental
Review 67:Lovely breakfast. Tapas was good not to badly priced and portion size was good. Very handy for the high street. Wooler festival was on when we were there really enjoyed the music etc,
Review 68:The staff were all very pleasant. We liked being on the High Street and able to walk about and brouse. It helped that we arrived in the middle of the Glendale Festival and the High Street was closed to traffic and full of fun activities.
Review 69:From the outside the hotel looks shabby, do not judge this book by it's cover!
Review 70:Snazzy room with roll top bath, friendly staff, breakfast was superb, superfast wifi we dined in and had the very best Tapas ever
Review 71:The staff were brilliant Stephanie gave up her table at Milan for us Nothing was too much trouble, the room we were in was small but comfortable and clean adequate parking at the back of the hotel Both the hotel restaurant and Milan had excellent food
Review 72:The staff were all friendly and the tapas served in the bar was excellent value for money. The breakfast was freshly cooked when you arrived in the dining room. Overall a great time was had.
Review 73:I did not like that there was un- usable shampoo, was NOT clear that it was a continental breakfast which was horrible. Parking was horrible and far away. The shade on the one window in our basement suite fell off the window. I could go on and on. Would Not recommend this place other than location. Also when we arrived the person was talking on the phone while checking us in and was rude...awful.
Review 74:Liked the location
Review 75:We stayed here on a Sunday night for my birthday. What a lovely hotel. We were upgraded to a room with a roll tap bath in the bedroom. The twinkly lights and wood featured a lot around the hotel in the which gave the hotel a nice relaxing atmosphere. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Sarah the manager was particularly good and super efficient. She seems to do just about everything in the hotel, from reception, bar staff, waitress and kitchen. This girl is a real credit to the hotel. We will definitely be back.
Review 76:The friendliness of the staff, the choice at breakfast with good variety and choice and the Tapas in the evening. Excellent value for money and good location to visit northern Northumberland.
Review 77:We chose eggs florentine for breakfast (included in the price so, again, wonderful value for money). However, on both plates, one of the eggs was overcooked and the other undercooked (there was no-none around in the dining room after we had been served so I couldn't send mine back). It's a small detail but an important one. However, it didn't detract from our generally positive experience.
Review 78:The hotel is perfectly located amidst wonderful countryside just 13 miles inland from Bamburgh. We were warmly welcomed by the owner and ALL staff went out of their way to please us, especially throughout a busy dinner service. Our room/bathroom were generously proportioned and well decorated with a lovely choice of colours. All in all No. 1 represents fantastic value for money. We will DEFINITELY return.
Review 79:Nothing really except room a bit hot, and the walls very thin so get neighbour noise from above. (room 9)
Review 80:Friendliness of staff / lovely breakfast, excellent tapas at night. Plus excellent food in Milan restaurant opposite.
Review 81:Room was slightly too hot and didn't have openable windows or air con. Breakfast was good and had lots of options, however the eggs florentine and benedict wasn't that enjoyable.
Review 82:Good location Good food options Well presented room Good value for money
Review 83:There wasn't much I didn't like about this place and we would definitely go back again. Our door was a bit stiff to open and close and the sausage at breakfast could've done with cooking a bit longer (in fairness I didn't mention this at the time as I was in a hurry but I'm sure it was a one off oversight as the rest was lovely. I'm sure if I had mentioned it, it would have been sorted out for me). That's literally all I can say, the rest was great.
Review 84:Very riendly staff who were most helpful, great complimentary selection of drinks/snacks in room, mostly quality breakfast with a huge choice, lovely bathroom, tasteful decor in the main building, great choice for evening meals (pub food, tapas or Italian all owned by the same company - we had the tapas, it was yummy and came in very decent sized portions. More restaurant choices in the village). Overall, great value for money.
Review 85:The bedroom had no window that opened, and it made the room quite stuffy overnight. The upstairs rooms may be different.
Review 86:The food is excellent....we had the best breakfast of our two month holiday. Huge selection of fresh fruit, cereal varieties and tea varieties. The cooked options are varied and freshly cooked to order. The tapas served in their wine bar the night before were superb, what a great evening we had. The staff are friendly and helpful. The bedroom, on the ground floor, was small, but it is an old building. Overall this is a great place to stay in a nice quiet town.
Review 87:Large spacious room and bathroom. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Hotel has a tapas restaurant but we ate in the Milan restaurant directly across the road - same owners - and the food was excellent and a reasonable price.
Review 88:Excellent room with free standing roll top bath in bathroom. At £55 for the room including breakfast this was fantastic value. Hotel in central location with sister restaurant just over the road. Free onsite car park. Only 10 miles from the beautiful Northumberland coast.
Review 89:The rear entrance wasn't a good show case for the hotel, it needs a make over. A very picky comment, but bath robes would have been nice.
Review 90:The individual decor, extremely friendly staff, super tapas restaurant and a wide choice of well cooked / cold breakfasts. The bath in our room was an indulgent treat.
Review 91:Breakfast, well presented burn unfortunately too greasy for my liking and the sausage looked undercooked
Review 92:Secure parking and unique decor, plus the toon to choose items for breakfast
Review 93:The only problem was a heating issue but this was handled quickly and effectively.
Review 94:As previously the greeting was warm and friendly. There have been a lot of changes since my last visit with the opening up of attached cottages as guest rooms. Had some trouble with the heating in one our rooms but this was dealt with immediately by the staff and remedied. Didn't have dinner here during this visit so cannot comment on this aspect. However, the breakfast was excellent and set us up for the day. Overall, this hotel is excellent value for money and recommended.
Review 95:Would have liked more choice to eat on the evening. I loved the tapas but I have fussy friends and the Italian opposite was fully booked.
Review 96:Sarah the manager was excellent, couldn't do enough for us. Breakfast was fantastic, great choice and delicious. Tapas very tasty
Review 97:The church bells ringing every hour.
Review 98:Very friendly and accommodating staff. A great choice for breakfast. Plenty parking spaces and central for all amenities. Lovely and warm on a cold day. Lovely bar area, cosy and friendly.
Review 99:helpful,wecoming staff, great service. Most comfortable bed and wonderful shower.Food was brought to the room, and a table closest to the room reserved for breakfast(injured hip hurt walk)Good bedside lights, ideal for reading without keeping partner awake.
Review 100:Location was perfect. The rooms were really old with loads of character. There was a huge fireplace in our room. The breakfast was extremely good with buffet style and a full English brought to the table.
Review 101:WiFi a little temperamental.
Review 102:Friendly helpful staff. Sumptuous room with a huge roll top bath in it. Well situated for many sights to visit in the northumberland area.
Review 103:We are a family of four and we stayed for two nights in a family room with our dog. We were really impressed with the size of the room and the quirky décor. Breakfast was ordered the night before which was a great plus as we didn't have to sit for ages with our fussy eater children deciding on what they wanted!. The buffet breakfast was faultless with so much to choose from. We were impressed with our stay and would definitely return for its great service, quirky décor and its pet friendly management.
Review 104:The decoration in room number 4 at the front of the hotel is very tasteful. I especially liked the tiny white lights that were used to decorate the dried vine over the window. Staff are very friendly, polite and helpful. It was lovely to hear the church clock, positioned further up the High Street, softly chime on the hour. A pleasant and relaxing stay.
Review 105:Friendly staff, comfy bed, superb breakfast and great value for money. We made an overnight stopover whilst exploring the region. Not much in Wooler itself but the hotel tapas restaurant is a fine way to spend the evening.
Review 106:Beds could be more comfy: sofa bed mattress very thin, nighttime noises and the lack of blinds on the skylight windows made it difficult to sleep once the sun came up.
Review 107:The size of the room, the breakfast and the self catering facilities.
Review 108:we were in the annex which with the dog would have been ideal, but the room above had a young family in and the noise was too much, our stay was planned for two nights but we checked out following the first however the owner, having been informed of our decision, rang to appologise and as a gesture refunded the full cost of the trip, she could not do more.
Review 109:the hotel in general was good
Review 110:Perhaps a blind in the bathroom for privacy.
Review 111:Staff were attentive and totally customer focused. Amazingly styled unique room with all of the home comforts built in,
Review 112:Location was central upgraded rooms when we checked in with a choice of three rooms room 1 is very nice and has a big freestanding bathh other rooms had showers
Review 113:room no1 was huge with beautiful roll top bath but is probably over the bar as it was noisy the night we stayed.
Review 114:from the minute we arrived we were made to feel very welcome, sarah especially was delightful throughout our stay. it was also great to find somewhere that has lovely character with a touch of luxury and also great value for money. breakfast was fab and gluten free requirements thoughtfully catered for. thank you.
Review 115:Family staying upstairs and noise was terrible from 6.30am onwards. The heating was too hot and the control on the radiator did not turn it down.As there was no window in the room it was unbearable.A member off staff turned the main control down but it took a couple of hours to go down then was back on very early in the morning. The manager at check out was not really sympathetic, pity as a nice weekend was ruined.
Review 116:Clean room and nicely decorated
Review 117:Good size family room with a kitchen/dining area. Restaurant was good (Tapas) and everyone at the hotel were friendly and welcoming. We would stay again if in area.
Review 118:This is 1 of the nicest most pleasant places weve stayed at, the staff are all excellent and polite, so freindly, cant recomend this place highly enough
Review 119:The rooms (1 & 2) are lovely, (although I think they would look a lot better if the twigs were removed and just left the wood features, but that is personal taste) the only drawback is that there does not seem to be much in the way of noise insulation from the bar directly downstairs and I could hear every word. Not much point in trying to sleep until everyone had gone home. I guess the solution is to be one of the revellers! All in all though I would still recommend.
Review 120:Good sized rooms. Good facilities in the room. Helpful staff - in fact I had booked one single room and one double and my partner could not make it so I stayed in the double on my own. After getting home the next day I got a phone call from Stephanie who said she would e-mail me a voucher for the difference (which was £20). Not sure when I will use it but I guess that's not the point.
Review 121:Not much happening in wooler, but ideal to relax and great countryside walks
Review 122:Lovely quirky hotel, with a great tapas bar. Loved everything about the place
The Fine Print
Please note that early check-in or late check-out can be arranged prior to arrival. The Red Lion is situated on the main street along with other public bars & shops; therefore, there is an element of noise that is beyond the control of the property.
