Reviews for The Grand Hotel
Review 1:We didn't like that you couldn't drink the tap water,we had to buy bottled water for us to take daily medication.we were shocked at this being a hotel, and was a let down they should provide water in the rooms if you can,t drink tap water.why can you not drink tap water in this hotel is it contaminated we would like an answer.
Review 2:Son paid £130 for 1 night and daughter paid the same. Hotel only had a few occupants and some only paid £35 per night for their bed so my son felt he was overcharged.
Review 3:Booked three rooms for the family; very good breakfast and evening meal; entertainment brilliant for all ages; comfortable seating and staff so happy to please,
Review 4:Location above all .i had alot of negative room not very clean, evening meal disguising for the price.i asked for extra pillow twice i was Ignored.no free parking.not one member of staff ask or help with my luggage. no mattress protect on the bed.staff don't seem happy in there job.
Review 5:the room was very poor. Clean but old and felt like a hostel. Bathroom was cold and wires hanging off the wall. Bed was just two old beds pushed together. Balcony door was broken and was drafty. Massive blind in the bathroom to cover a broken door. Shower was like something I had in university. Such a shame. Wish they would have put us in a nice room.
Review 6:The entertainment and building was amazing ...lovely atmosphere
Review 7:Charged for drinks taken out of my card account which belonged to another room. The whole place needs refurbishing. I went out for the evening as the menu was not very inviting and the bar area was cold and lacking atmosphere.
Review 8:Location
Review 9:Poor quality bedroom & bathroom. Good do with an update very soon
Review 10:The staff has improved a lot since last stayed but the entertainment was very dated and seemed the same as ten years or so ago
Review 11:We visit The Grand every year, we find the staff on reception particularly helpful and pleasant. The location is brilliant, near to the main attractions and close to the sea. It's a friendly hotel and the entertainment was excellent. We feel the price is very reasonable, some of the rooms need updating and this is reflected in the price.
Review 12:No bad experience
Review 13:We liked the comfort of the lounge and the breakfast was first class ,the view from the bedroom was lovely although the room was a bit small, but the bed was very comfortable ,could do with another chair somebody has to sit on bed! .
Review 14:Due to the poor weather which kept people in, it wasn't easy to get a seat in the lounge so perhaps in winter months the daytime entertainment should be in the ballroom
Review 15:The warmth of the rooms in all areas, the entertainment was good and easy to listen too
Review 16:Everything creaks loudly: floorboards (corridors, own room floor, floor above), beds. Can hear ground floor entertainment on 2nd floor. So noisy, couldn't sleep. Too expensive for aged furnishings and decor.
Review 17:Views and location good. Staff fine.
Review 18:The building needs investment. It was once grand, but sadly no more. Low quality breakfast - food swimming in grease.
Review 19:Staff very friendly and helpful. We were given a sea view which was amazing.
Review 20:this is not a hotel for young people as the caberet & entertainment is acomadated for elderly people x
Review 21:Nice friendly hotel not a far walk in to llandudno town x
Review 22:Not the first Britannia hotel I've stayed in. Both had issues with upkeep, broken decor, lack of toiletries, "internet rooms" with no internet!
Review 23:Excellent view of the beach.
Review 24:It was way to hot in hotel, paid £100 per night for a box room with plaster falling off the walls and wallpaper hanging off the ceiling,The room was terrible and over priced
Review 25:location and reasonably priced drinks
Review 26:This place is a beautiful old building in perfect location but needs quite a bit of tlc. Our biggest moan along with lots of other guests was the over powering heat. People were leaving the concert room before the cabaret because the heat was ridiculous. Could save a fortune by turning heat down/ off. We had to open balcony door in our room because there was no window just to get some sleep. Which proved to be fun with a gale force wind blowing off the sea.
Review 27:Spot on location with sea view which was a bonus. The staff were all friendly and eager to please , especially young man on reception who offered to move his car so we could park a little closer. Breakfast was ok but just the one man couldn't fill buffet up fast enough so always waiting for eggs. Beds were lovely and comfy and pillows too. In 3 days didn't get any clean towels, all the cleaner did was empty bins. Couldn't leave towels in bath as is normal practice as it took 4 hours for shower water to drain n didn't want to leave them on floor in case they didn't change them. Overall we enjoyed our stay even with lots of little niggles. It's a lovely place just needs some money spending on bedrooms.
Review 28:The hotel was extremely hot in the room and in the grand ball room staff and customers remarked about The extreme heat
Review 29:Lots of towels and pillows and hot water En joyed quiz, and showtime
Review 30:Very poor hotel, everything we touched fell apart and had to complain and change rooms. Very old and dated, such a shame because the location is fantastic
Review 31:Only good thing is the location
Review 32:Breakfast, no bed side table, curtains didn't shut, hole in ceiling, bathroom basic ( but functional, and plenty of hot water)
Review 33:Location, sea views, Llandudno, it was warm, staff
Review 34:It was really cold in the room, the radiator wasn't working, we complained, they said they gonna send up someone in 10min, they didn't arrive so next day I complained again, then we got an electric one at least! The bathroom was awful and disgusting!
Review 35:Area
Review 36:Cleanliness of room Not having been informed that my request notes ie-Room with view of beach had been approved.,Only told on arrival..Poor service when booking online..Had to make do with room on other side of hotel, showing partial view of pier..It was a surprise for my daughter which was stated when booked online.. Not informed that there was a country western weekend and all rooms with view fully booked,so couldn't upgrade.. Woken at 2am -8am by noisy disgusting neighbours having sex, which my 12 yr old daughter had to listen too and was extremely traumatic,Even when I knocked on their door.. Informed receptionist of complaint following day in case another residents would have to put up with it with the experience.. We come to the Hotel at Xmas time every year as a tradition.. This year ruined by the experience we all had, although most staff very friendly..
Review 37:View
Review 38:Everything! The location of the hotel, the room was nice and clean, we paid only 35 pounds per night and we got breakfast included as well ... it was a great choice!
Review 39:only thing was the heating dident work very well found the room a bit chilly.
Review 40:enjoyed the stay plenty of hot water, really thought it was good value for money, and lovely sea view.
Review 41:It would be better if they have more power sockets in the room. They should provide free wifi in the rooms as well.
Review 42:The hotel is just beside the sea but unfortunately we were not given a room with sea view. Overall I would consider the hotel rooms clean and value for money. The staffs are really courteous and polite. Thumbs up!
Review 43:2 blokes playing organ and guitar ... and bloke at end of the night trying to sing is terrible
Review 44:fantastic location ..great views .cabaret show really good ..main singers very good ..but first 2 blokes on are really bad and bloke at end of night is worse ..but middle section is great....food is ok ..breakfast is very good
Review 45:I didn't like it that breakfast was 8 till 9 on a Sunday morning. I was told that the time had been altered because there were not many guests staying. No good to me after a Saturday night out. If the hotel was that empty I would have thought we would have been given a room with a view, not one that faced a wall on the inside of the hotel !
Review 46:Good location and value for money
Review 47:Are room on the top floor was quite small for a twin and it's carpet had seen better days . Plenty of dust around the room too .
Review 48:I like the location of the hotel and the inside of the hotel and how quite are room was on the top floor .Also the atmosphere of the hotel is nice with plenty of places to sit down and relax .
Review 49:Needs a serious cash injection and a massive refurb. Has the potential to be so much more! Stayed in a twin room with a work colleague and was ideal and cheap following a night out. However I would not take the family there or the wife for a weeknd getaway.
Review 50:Breakfast ok, staff were pleasant and accomodating.
Review 51:We up graded to a sea view room thought it was bit expensive not best view room small TV was waste of time no channels not very good coffe
Review 52:It was a nice break for me and wife food was very good great location staff were good
Review 53:The bathroom need to be updated, dirty cups and glasses on the balcony and the room was cold, the radiator did not work but the porter did bring us a plug in heater ,the building could be stunning with some tlc ,the breakfast was ok but wetherspoon us much better
Review 54:The bed was very comfy and I loved the chandeliers in the main hall and lounge
Review 55:No car park Check out at 10 Rooms very very dated Tiny room with bed pushed up against the wall Boiling room
Review 56:Staff friendly and that's the only good part
Review 57:The staff allowed us to pay from a breakfast at 9.50am, we sat down with our cereal, and they started to take everything away. When we went to reception to complain they said breakfast finished at 9.45am!! They did refund our money.
Review 58:A uk hotel where the water isn't safe to drink! Scafolding outsidethe windows with gushing water all night. The room was too hot and youcouldn't turn the radiator down.
Review 59:The bar and dining area.
Review 60:Came with my 42 year old daughter to see the country and western weekend. My late husband her Dad came every year to the country and western weekend, wanted to show her how good the entertainment was we wasn't disappointed, we enjoyed every minute of it.
Review 61:No soya milk available.
Review 62:very clean and friendly, extra pillows blankets and towels in wardrobe were welcome thoughtful touch. We will be staying here again. Excellent value for money.
Review 63:Noisy creaking floor boards above and below our room
Review 64:Location ,ease of parking, value for money,no-fuss online booking.Have stayed here previously would do again.
Review 65:The WI-FI coverage isn't good. Expensive restaurant.
Review 66:Staff are great ! Undercover private car park was handy. Beds are comfy and the rooms are spacious
Review 67:Car parking is a very serious issue for this hotel, the hotel has no parking facilities and to have to pay £3.00 a day for a parking ticket is a major disadvantage.
Review 68:The hotel was always very warm and staff very nice and helpful. Entertainment was also excellent.
Review 69:The room was smelling as hospital the bathroom was dirty and was a bit noise from music in the bar but was cheap and we only stayed one night so not too bad
Review 70:The location and view around is really good. The live band was nice
Review 71:Fantastic location with view over the bay. Must have been absolutely wonderful back in the day.Today it's still very grand in an old fashioned way. Facilities were fine, room was really good, tea, coffee, hair-dryer, great clean shower, flats screen TV with free view channels, all the essentials for my stay.
Review 72:hotel looks tired, food was very poor quality waiters were eating food from buffet, tables not cleaned properly. Food on buffet had been spill t over other foods and just left. Plates were always wet. Attention given in restaurant not consistent.
Review 73:view from bedroom reception staff very friendly and helpful
Review 74:Cleanliness of bathroom .tiles. Taps mirror etc and would of loved a cup of pg tips or Tetley tea bags instead of what was provided in the room. didn't taste very nice .but these issues didn't spoil our stay
Review 75:Location very good except for parking. Entertainment not expected and enjoyed on second night very good!
Review 76:unfortunately there were no wi fi inside a room ,also there were no wi fi downstarirs in the hotel, maybe because of great storm, which was in the evening Thursday
Review 77:elegant,comfortable hotel at happy Valley Avenue at the Irish Sea with view on Irish Sea, near the centre of the town Llandudno where was the ceremony of beginnig yhe World Rally Cars Champions wrc 2015;
Review 78:the floors creaked every time you walked in your room. The beds were hard Requires attention structurally I feel to bring this to a more luxury hotel. The best years are behind this hotel now. No car parking so had to pay on the road
Review 79:The breakfast in the morning was good with plenty to choose from. The sitting though could have been better but overall was ok. The beach & pier areas were within yards of the hotel.
Review 80:The room was very basic. There was nothing to make the room feel welcoming. The decor was very dated. The beds were uncomfortable. The bathroom looked shabby and uncared for.
Review 81:Lowest point: At breakfast - which has a feel of a school canteen as its packed busy and waitresses are rushing clearing plates and sorting them in the same room there is a lot of noisy clanging of plates and cutlery. The tables were practically all stuck together. No chance of quiet romantic breakfast! The room was packed up when we arrived around 830am. We didn't like the two spaces left for us (it meant sharing a table with another couple), so I found another corner table for two but it needed clearing, I politely asked waitress if we could go there. She replies that we should use another one that was already 'done', it was next to where all the waitresses threw plates and cutlery. Ok, so we help ourselves to the ok cooked breakfast (plenty of choice - one toaster machine taking 2 toasts at a time and requiring 2 cycles with the toaster- so queues). As my partner was about to start taking his fresh orange juice I stopped him as loads of lipstick marks on the glass. :-( As we were next to the waitress slop station I showed it to one of them immediately " oh thank you " she said a little abruptly, and she put it in with the other dirty stuff! No apology no offering to get another! Basic bedroom without view was dingy and needed a coat of paint. Bath didn't seem sparkly clean at all. stange old smell in coridors and seccond floor really really noisy floor boards!
Review 82:The price. The reception and downstairs bar is lovely and spacious. Excellent location right on the sea front. Short walk from shops and bars and resturants. ALso ideal for short walks along coast in either direction.
Review 83:Food at dinner was appalling, very poor quality. Room was next to generators and could hear them all night.
Review 84:Great location and sea view.Helpful staff. Liked the Jacuzzi bath.
Review 85:our room required a post maintenance tidy up when we arrived at the room however this situation was rectified very quickly
Review 86:all in all everything the grand hotel stands for
Review 87:room, chipped wallpaper, near tv area, cobwebs, no main light but a switch near door, small stain on carpet under radiator. .piece of wood with 2 coat hangers could have been painted it would look better
Review 88:sea view
Review 89:The room had a bug squashed on the window, it has not been cleaned. I felt the decor is very dated. The outside door leading on to the balcony had rotten bird droppings on it. just the simple things that needs touching up.
Review 90:The room had a lovely view across the bay. Also the staff were very helpful at all times and ensure the stay was an enjoyable one.
Review 91:The breakfast waiter and manager where very rude to us and lacked basic customer service skills. It ruined our morning and the holiday
Review 92:The location and facilities where lovely. The night receptionist was very helpful and the night porters where to.
Review 93:TV in bedroom was held on a maximum sound level, which I could barely hear (poor hearing in one ear)
Review 94:Wonderfully friendly staff. CLEAN BRIGHT AND INVITING PLACE. Good food
Review 95:But I was disturbed three or more times with staff poping in unexspectidley while I was settleing in also in the morning it seemed that people did not know I had payed for this extra service and privercy
Review 96:We paid for early room and late room stay that was great
Review 97:The room was too basic. Tv that didn't really work and a view that was directly onto a brick wall. Not impressive. Think the room was old staff quarters as it was very low quality
Review 98:The hotel room was very warm and no heating on.(.Not always a bad thing) I realise...
Review 99:Only had 1night but can't fault the hotel...location great, staff friendly, room a little tired but adequate for our stay, buffet breakfast really good..
Review 100:Women on reception sarcastic and staff just going through the motions. You couldn't drink tap water so we stocked up on bottled just to clean our teeth!
Review 101:Location was a prime spot and bed was clean and comfortable.
Review 102:The room was always dark as almost internal. The paintwork was peeling on all doors. Our bathroom light wasn't working and wasn't repaired although reported. Breakfast was odd
Review 103:Bath was good and water hot
Review 104:Room.to hot on this trip.could not open windows to let in fresh air.nailed shut.?.won't come again.needs a good refurb all round.no parking facility .
Review 105:Nice venue.friendly staff.
Review 106:Rude staff and extremely poor hygiene! The room was dirty; had not been hoovered, bath was still dirty and globs of toothpaste were still on the bathroom floor (I'm guessing from previous guests).
Review 107:Great location, Llandudno is lovely! We also had a great sea view!
Review 108:We had a lovely warm and efficient welcome by the staff, the room and the whole hotel was clean and spacious with entertainment every evening. Food and drink prices were very competitive and available most of the day. For the price we paid at Halfterm, it was wonderful value for money, and so close to Snowdonia.
Review 109:i payed £35.00 just for the room ,when i booked it i thought breakfast was inclueded it was at other grand hotels and they were cheaper. i would not make the same mistake again
Review 110:my room had a loverly view
Review 111:Bedroom it was to dark with window facing the corridor shower head would not stay up and extractor fan not working and only one chair to sit on in room.
Review 112:The food was nice.the parking for the disabled was good as close by.staff where nice and friendly.
Review 113:Room a bit small would suggest upgrading if staying for longer then 1 day. Not a great choice of fruit at breakfast
Review 114:Breakfast but throw those horrible boiled sausages away. Great views of the area.
Review 115:Extremely hot water in bathroom , considered this very dangerous as we had a 6 yr old with us. Waited too long for a drink in the restaurant
Review 116:Reception staff friendly and helpful
Review 117:Rm 128 no shower so we were moved to Rm335. Chair holding the Frenchdoors closed. Bathroom smelled like a very bad old peoples home.Threatened to leave and was moved to Premier Room 109b. If it waspremier I would hate to see a low quality Room. The wall mirror was anold wardrobe door fixed to the wall but they had left the door knob onit. I'm covered in bed bug bites. I should really be asking for afull refund
Review 118:Nothing good to say about this old smelly hotel. Big regret booking it.
Review 119:Hotel looking tired but maintenance team in situ.
Review 120:Facilities at night good did not need to go out of the hotel. A pleasant stay and staff very friendly.
Review 121:Had been given a dining table number but curt staff said, "Sit anywhere over there." There was no explanation of where various items were situated. Having mobility problems this was less than helpful.
Review 122:Very helpful staff on arrival. Comfortable sea view room. Large bathroom with walk in shower as requested.
Review 123:Excellent location with lovely views over the bay. Staff very friendly and efficient. Hotel a little 'tired' in places, but excellent value for money
Review 124:Only ONE double electric socket... and TV uses one... so where do we plug two mobile phones & laptops in?
Review 125:Room decor 'tired' (room 124) smell of cigerate smoke in bathroom (suspect from ventilation system and someone smoking with their fan running.
Review 126:nothing it was a good holiday
Review 127:good reception when arriving room ready early, breakfast very good no one should complain if they do go to grand in scarborough, tou would soon come back.
Review 128:Small room, very dark and gloomy without any sort of view. Dirty carpet, lack of hanging space in tatty bathroom. very poor in general plus breakfast was cold.
Review 129:Served pleasant wine at bar
Review 130:Overall standard/appearance e.g. dining room tables were "sticky" - badly needs refurbishing.
Review 131:Location of hotel. Excellent view from balcony, warm room and hot water.
Review 132:Parking is an Issue as its on street. The rooms are starting to show their age and a refurb sometime in the near future wouldnt go a miss.
Review 133:Polite and helpful staff, reasonable food and drink prices. Location is great for the sea front and Town Centre. Entertainment looked good too.
Review 134:Everything else ...dirty..run down...breakfast (not available until 8 am ! :-() was dreadful...had I known this hotel was owned by Britannia Hotels I would not have booked it...they are a disgusting company who are running beautiful old hotels into the ground ...if they don't like this perhaps they will reply ..they didn't do customer care when I was denied a booked room - AFTER a STROKE ...2 years ago...
Review 135:Staff tried hard
Review 136:Dining room and self serve resembled roadside diner Bathroom only had a small shower cubicle, impossible to get a decent wash.
Review 137:Great location for shops/orme/prom, Clean spacious bedroom Entertaiment Food was acceptable
Review 138:The poor doorman service which was nil. The noise during the night from -we think was - a compressor. Also some other customers which was not the hotels fault. The water quality in the room was such that, although boiled, my wife and I both suffered from tummy upsets.
Review 139:The view from the room. The room was a reasonable one.
