Reviews for South Beach Hotel

Review 1:At 9:30 the breakfast service appeared to stop completely, this us when breakfast ends (as in most of Scottish hotels/b&bs) but we saw nobody, no coffee refreshed and pots empty.

Review 2:Easy to get to town centre, rooms very warm

Review 3:The room was to small the beds were stained window was closed with a towel broken taps broken phone dirty mirrors lights didn't work. Wasn't happy was supposed to be a happy surprise for my wives anniversary. But left.

Review 4:Lovely food. & staff.

Review 5:Very pleasant homely atmosphere. Staff first class. Felt very relaxed and at ease. In particular the residents lounge was tastefully and elegantly furbished and the atmosphere it created enveloped you.

Review 6:I thought the breakfast was disappointing had to ask for coffee tea and toast when our breakfast was almost finished

Review 7:The reception staff were really nice the rooms were lovely

Review 8:Room at the top up 2 flights of stairs then even though a big room not very comfortable and very, very old fashioned decor well used and tatty. Reception wasn't staffed and no bell or means to notify anyone that we were waiting so had to wait to give or get key when going out and coming in.

Review 9:The breakfast was one of the best I can remember, service with a smile and the bacon and black pudding were first rate. The view from our room was great

Review 10:Breakfast very large. Always 2 eggs served so if you are a small eater ask for 1 egg.

Review 11:Lovely spot, fresh decor, lovely bathroom. Short walk into town. Bus stop across road if you do not wish to drive.

Review 12:Natural Scotish friendliness within an effective traditional hospitable atmosphere. The hotel is a genuine Scottish deal and it is not an artificial themed hotel. The near by famous and historic Royal Troon golf course adds a sense of added grandness to the hotel. I really liked my one night stay and the excellent food topped it off. The hotel was a very nice pleasant place for my overnight stay on my trip up the west coast.

Review 13:WiFi only available in the public area

Review 14:Great room with a sea view, friendly staff, clean and comfortable, and no need to go out for dinner as the food in the hotel is excellent with good variety. Wonderfully relaxing!

Review 15:We had a water leak in the room...the manager was 'beyond angry' his words, and was very challenging in his behaviour. Did offer a reduction in the end though. Staff ranged from good to terrible. Massive dissapointment as it could be fantastic

Review 16:The location is perfect for the beach and marina

Review 17:Very friendly and welcoming. We were a mixed group of grandparents, parents, toddler and dog. All were spoken to by all staff. Very comfortable and near the amazing beach.

Review 18:Having to move from the residence bar to the public bar to eat a plate of sandwiches. Wi-Fi only worked in the public bar.

Review 19:Location is great, our room was large and the beds very comfortable.

Review 20:The seal in the windows of our room were in need of repair. All night long we listened to the wind as if we were outside in it. I had to wedge chairs against the curtains to stop them blowing. The bed had a thin mattress and was not comfortable at all.

Review 21:The staff were really nice and our dinner was very tasty especially the berry cheesecake. The bar surroundings were nice with no loud music so we were able to talk without having to shout, very relaxing

Review 22:The wifi was only available in public areas. Troon itself was disappointing as a destination,

Review 23:The restaurant was excellent quality and value. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was lovely.

Review 24:Not a bad experience but couldn't get Internet signal unless in reception wifi in rooms would have been nice

Review 25:Staff all friendly and helpful beautiful room

Review 26:Only downside was the rain!

Review 27:My boyfriend had a wonderful stay, the staff were so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious and the hotel was spotless.

Review 28:None to report.

Review 29:Good comfortable room and toilet facilities; made welcome on signing in and shown to room. Staff were warm and friendly. Excellent location for going out and about through Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway.

Review 30:Nothing

Review 31:Great location just a couple of minutes walk from the station and across the road from the lovely Troon beach. Food was superb, I chose to eat in the bar where the locals and staff were very friendly, having Landlord Ale on was a great extra bonus. Room had a wall of windows, sea facing with great views of Ailsa Craig, Kintyre and Arran. Very clean, and very comfortable night with a first class breakfast to follow.

Review 32:No vegetarian main course option on dinner menu. "the chef will make you something" is not a professional alternative. Veggies second class citizens re cooked breakfast too Bathroom tired and slightly grubby, nowhere to hang towels No electrical sockets near mirrors Full scale decorating work started at peak checking-out time

Review 33:Friendly helpful staff throughout Great location Very nice room apart from 'didn't likes'

Review 34:lovely staff, nice rooms and food was excellent. We often dine in some top restaurant's in Glasgow and the food here matched the standard which was a pleasant surprise. We had our dog with us and were given a room at back opening out to garden which was ideal. Will definitely be returning for a longer stay when the weather is better.

Review 35:Bedroom windows very draughty, note: the weather was very windy during our stay. No WiFi in the bedrooms.

Review 36:Good food, very freindly staff, great room with first class seating area. Very reasonable price for the room we had.

Review 37:There is nothing not to like.

Review 38:Good atmosphere, staff very friendly, food excellent a good variety on menu, bar has just been refurbished and has been beautifully furnished, no shortcuts on style, could go on.

Review 39:The only problem we had was the cold water tap didn't work

Review 40:We upgraded to superior room when booking through booking.com and well worth the money beautiful view and excellent large room, good breakfast too so well worth a visit

Review 41:our room was large and only had 2 radiators when it could have done with 3. Lack of a lift although we were offered a room on lower floor but opted to stay in first room because we loved view.

Review 42:friendly staff, hotel clean, decent toilet paper, size of and view from room

Review 43:Very warm welcome and allowed to check in early after a long journey. We bring our dog on holiday and hotel owners changed our room to one that had patio doors that led right on to the huge rear garden. This let us access the garden within a few seconds. Full Scottish breakfast was excellent and constant supply of toast, tea and coffee left us full for the day ahead. The bar stocked West Brewery beer which is my favourite. Very relaxing hotel with plenty of rooms to chill out and enjoy a beer or tea/coffee. perfect location for sea front. Only a minutes walk to beach.

Review 44:Wind whistled through the windows in my bedroom, and wi fi only in the bar lounge. Bit awkward carrying case down the stairs to my room, and also up stairs to the hotels front door.

Review 45:Hotel furnished in a typically Scottish fashion, great breakfast menu. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Not much choice of evening meals, but excellently cooked. Loved the location just over the road from the beach.

Review 46:Attitude observed of manager towards his other staff. Grapefruit fizzing in bowl at breakfast. Breakfast uninspiring and dated. No wifi in rooms. TV reception poor

Review 47:Clean comfortable room.

Review 48:Staff very helpful and friendly. Food at dinner and breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Our bedroom was large and very cosy. Definitely a place to return to.

Review 49:We ate in the hotel in the evening and the food was very good but we were disappointed that we were not told earlier that we would have to eat in the bar as the dining room was shut, the tables had been set up for New Years Eve. Had we realised this we would have made other arrangements.

Review 50:Friendly, helpful staff and a good atmosphere. Sea view from our room was lovely and the hospitality tray was well stocked.

Review 51:Friendly & very helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble! Very clean, bright room. My first time staying in Troon, but I won't bother looking up any other hotels when I return... South Beach ticked all the right boxes for me!

Review 52:bar staff made error with drink but I had to purchase additional drink she would not rectify poor customer service but I didn't complain as I was having a family weekend and didn't want to spoil the group mood shame though

Review 53:Breakfast was fantastic excellent quality and traditional Scottish just what I wanted

Review 54:The Booking.com website said there was a sea view with our room but there wasn't. It didn't matter to us as we simply walked down to the beach but it might to others. I would hate other guests to be disappointed with this wonderful hotel for this reason.

Review 55:The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. We felt truly valued as guests. Our room was clean and comfortable as were the Public Rooms. Dinner and our 2 nights' stay were excellent value, We would totally recommend this hotel.

Review 56:I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Troon, I will be booking it again.

Review 57:The room was a great size with seating area which I was not expecting, room very tidy and comfort the view was great looking out to the sea. The food was brilliant and plenty to eat. The staff were very friendly and appreciated the gift we took with us.

Review 58:This is a lovely hotel facing the beach with beautiful views down the south Ayrshire coast. The staff were very friendly and efficient and carried out there duties very professionally. The hotel was nicely decorated and the bedroom was very clean and comfortable. The food was good and very reasonably priced. All in all we had a very pleasurable stay and would recommend it.

Review 59:no faults whatsoever

Review 60:staff very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. our evening meal was very enjoyable and we also had nice breakfast. will definately be back in the new year

Review 61:Had dinner in the conservertary , the food was nice but as it was November it was chilly, could have benefited from more heating and lightning.

Review 62:The staff were great, very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very tasty.

Review 63:It seemed like all the staff on the Saturday evening were either school kids, or near! - Forgot our steak sauce at dinner, and had a few problems with the technology in the bedroom ie the kettle, tv and phone - otherwise was ok for a night's stay!

Review 64:no disabled access to upstairs rooms; restaurant was cold on the evening we were there; has to wait almost 1 hour for our order to be taken for dinner;

Review 65:good breakfast, comfortable clean room.

Review 66:Welcoming friendliness of staff - nothing was too much for them. Breakfast and evening meal were good. Single room brilliant - normally the single room looks out over the bins, but this time I had a sea view!

Review 67:The electric shower was frustratingly inadequate. Very poor flow rate and running hot and cold. One of the two locks on bedroom door was broken.

Review 68:Staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast excellent. Room clean.

Review 69:The toilet was very very noisey when flushed. even having a shower or running the taps was extremley loud. A bit of a put of as I got woke up a few times by it.

Review 70:The location is good. The staff are very good at there jobs and pleasant. Lovely selection at breakfast.

Review 71:Would benefit from some entertainment or more background music at night.

Review 72:Large, clean rooms, friendly staff, great location minutes from the beach. Excellent food at reasonable prices.

Review 73:Breakfast was not good.I was not given opportunity to ask for bacon to be crispy or how i liked my eggs or what i would have liked to have had.

Review 74:Location

Review 75:Nothing. Some may prefer a more modern environment but we liked the old fashioned charm.

Review 76:We had no previous experience of the hotel but were taken aback by how friendly and helpful the staff were. Would recommend.

Review 77:Room nice, large and what is unusual for a hotel, good lighting if you want to read in bed. The breakfast was more than adequate, the cooked was plate served and freshly cooked - no post breakfast heartburn!

Review 78:I stayed at the South Beach Hotel in Troon during the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. It was very convenient for the train. The hotel were very accommodating. There was no problem checking in after 11 pm and no problem with early breakfasts. A very enjoyable stay and very reasonably priced.

Review 79:not being able to use internet in my room. The cooked breakfast was not my favourite would have preferred helping myself

Review 80:view of sea friendly staff and fast service

Review 81:The whole place is a bit threadbare like so many seaside hotels. The bedspread needs a good clean...room 301...

Review 82:Handy for Troon town centre, walkable in 8>10 mins, good parking around the hotel or out in the main road. Our room was very clean but on the top floor, bit of a hike up the stairs, not so clean was the bed spread, the underside of that looked like it had seen a bit of "human action" in the past, we pulled that off the bed and dumped it in the corner. The night porter is a great guy, he was still serving up the drinks at 2am and had a surprising knowledge of the drinks...we had a nightcap with an American chap over here for golf who was asking for stuff I'd not heard of before...but the night porter had! Breakfast was first class if a little early on a Sunday morning...finishes at 09:30hrs according to the bumf in the room.

Review 83:Windows at the front let a cold breeze in not bad in summer but not sure if it would be a little cold in the winter. Otherwise all good.

Review 84:traditional hotel nice cosy feel with friendly staff. Very clean and accommodating, with great Scottish breakfast, or a choice of cereals etc.. bar nice and food look good although we didn't eat there.

Review 85:The breakfast display was poor. Very small selection plus serving the cereals out of a tupperware box was not a great impression. Décor of the rooms was awful and so dated which is the main reason I say I would not recommend this hotel.

Review 86:Staff were all friendly. I ate in the restaurant and food was good. Beds were perfectly comfortable and the whole place was generally very clean.

Review 87:room key access after Reception closed - via the Bar with usually a queue for drinks

Review 88:location, room, breakfast and overall cleanliness and level of service

Review 89:We were travelling to and fro Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games. The hotel were very flexible even to the point of making some toast for our 5am breakfasts. Evenings were convivial and a welcome relief from the bustle of the city.

Review 90:Can't think of anything.

Review 91:Great location, lovely sea view from our hotel. Very friendly staff, beautiful "old world" room. Location far enough away from high streets to be extremely quiet, but everything within short walking distance.

Review 92:Nothing.

Review 93:Lovely traditional Scottish hotel, not drawn into the need for the modern uniform look. We had a lovely room, comfortable, large and so quiet. Perfect location by the beach and five minute walk to the train station where trains take you straight to Glasgow. We can't comment on evening meals but breakfast was good. Can recommend Scott's of Troon in the harbour for eating.

Review 94:decor a bit tired. scruffy doors, loose locks, bathroom furniture veneer peeling dining room had a locked sun room in full view with a scrappy cane sofa and bits of timber planks just laid there. wheelchair access up to a locked door

Review 95:our stay. friendly efficient staff. comfortable room and a good sleep

Review 96:First night very little sleep in 3rd floor room as so hot!!!! A fan was quickly provided when asked but temperature dropped that night so not required

Review 97:good position close to beach, ten minute walk to railway station for trips to Glasgow great food in the restaurant and bar, polite efficient staff problems sorted quickly really enjoyed our stay

Review 98:Well it's very but wifi in your room as well as the public areas. Not a deal breaker, but a nice to have.

Review 99:Warm and attentive welcome, excellent service from all. Very comfortable room and a pleasant atmosphere. Only there for a night, wished it had been longer.

Review 100:The television reception. I normally like to watch ITV3 when I stay in a hotel but it was hopeless, and other channels were poor too.

Review 101:The staff were so friendly and helpful and I was given an excellent good-sized room, thank you.

Review 102:There was nothing we didn't like.

Review 103:Arrived to a warm welcome from staff who were very pleasant and helpful , the room we were allocated was clean and comfortable . We had a lovely meal in the restaurant in the evening and we also enjoyed the breakfast the next morning . The location of the hotel suited us as it was near to the railway station on arrival and also the ferry terminal from which we were traveling from the next day . We will be booking this hotel again .

Review 104:The owner (male) was exceedingly unprofessional in commenting adversely about another race of people. I had to publicly speak up. When we arrived at reception there was no one there. I had to go and look for someone and found a young girl in the bar.

Review 105:Room was very big and spotlessly clean

Review 106:My room no. 236. Wall paper was peeling off the wall. Bathroom door could not be closed without moving the towel rail, also it was situated at the top of stairs where if there was a fire on the stairs there was no means of escape!

Review 107:Public rooms, food and staff were very good.

Review 108:None

Review 109:Beautiful hotel! Staff was very welcoming and the food was excellent.

Review 110:The room was clean and tidy. The staff helpful and the food was really good. The sea bass was excellent.

Review 111:Hotel was clean, staff were friendly and food was good. That is all i ask for in a hotel so would return again no problem!

Review 112:The location with the sea view and the comfort of the room although it was a little tired in places

Review 113:Friendly and professional staff made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived

Review 114:Consider thicker toast. The breakfast let down by thin white.

Review 115:Comfortable, friendly. Made to feel welcome

Review 116:The staff went out of their way to be helpful. Breakfast was fantastic

Review 117:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean with a comfortable bed and we had a good nights sleep.

Review 118:The breakfast was fantastic rooms really good size..

Review 119:Helpful staff. "Insisted" we took full advantage of the security of their Golf Club store and very helpful with process. Beer was great!

Review 120:Food fairly good, but have had better. I should add breakfast and service excellent.

Review 121:Staff friendly and helpful.

Review 122:The location was ideal & hotel very welcoming & friendly

Review 123:The comfortable, family environment; the fantastic attention from staff; the quality of the food and the cleanliness of the whole establishment.

Review 124:Small tv

Review 125:Friendly staff.

Review 126:Service at breakfast not so good.

Review 127:Reception staff very helpful. Hotel spotless. Location great. Breakfast excellent.
