Reviews for The Lismore Hotel
Review 1:Room freezing cold but man at reception put radiators on with mole wrench right away. No bedside light just one on wall which shone into eyes making impossible to read, No telephone and no orange juice as advertised. Could do with a makeover!
Review 2:500yds from family party, sheets and towels very clean
Review 3:Upon arival at 2200 hrs after a hard day i eas given a key to my room where i found the bed unmade. Still left from previous stay. No bins empty. Cold and bed was lumpy. Plenty of tea. Milk and sugar. Shower brilliant and brekky very good. I managed to sleep under the top cover as the bed had hairs left in. : (
Review 4:The accommodation was arranged for an overseas traveller. His comments were - "In the 25 years I have been travelling with work, I have never ever stayed somewhere so bad. It was the most uncomfortable experience and one night was more than enough". With this I had to find alternative accommodation for our working guest.
Review 5:Nothing - It was really poor accommodation!
Review 6:Rooms were damp, in need of decorating, staff unhelpful and rude. When we reported the state of the rooms and the fact that one of our party had bugs in his room, we were meet with hostility. Told it was up to us if we stayed, on mention of still charging if we did not. We did not and were charged £505 for the privilege. Worst hotel I've stayed in, in over 30 years.
Review 7:Nothing
Review 8:The room was very small and old fashioned. The single bed was barely adequate
Review 9:Fair location within walking distance of the town. Fair breakfast. Free WiFi in the rooms
Review 10:The orange juice in the breakfast room was off, seriously off, rancid. The hotel was like stepping back to the seventies and had a really bad smell like Windows hadn't been open for years.
Review 11:Bedroom smelt like wet carpet. Fridge pump was very noisy and rattled all night, which together with a very hard cheap mattress (could feel every spring!) resulted in really poor sleep. Despite being the only 2 guests in breakfast room, they still got the order for the cooked breakfast wrong (even though they wrote it down as we placed it!) and didn't offer to correct it.
Review 12:Bathroom was very clean but paper bath mat and lack of grab rail let it down.
Review 13:Freshly made bed came with pubic hairs and long brown female hair too. Thermal insulation properly ineffective, staff are unfriendly and the owner of the place is outright rude.
Review 14:Not much
Review 15:The bathroom should be a little bit cleaner...but still OK!
Review 16:Accommodation in single small apartments around parking. Reception in nice old style pub, good beer!:)
Review 17:could not park in the car park, and had to park in a house four doors down. best we could call it was scruffy. bedding at least was clean
Review 18:we booked the only room available in the area. had we been able to book elsewhere we would
Review 19:The mattress on the four poster bed was literally lumpy with loud springs and when I sat on the bed it broke under my weight. The curtains were hanging off the railings. The landing smelt strongly of moth balls. I was so disgusted by the mattress and bed I walked out of the hotel and went to another.
Review 20:Nice old building. The manager did offer to fix the 'broken' dilapidated four poster bed.
Review 21:Everything ,the place is a joke, staff that can't speak a word of English and a landlord that was paraletic and couldn't even stand up. Disgusting.
Review 22:Small room with double bed against a wall. Stiff tap with no hot water. Curtain half hanging off rail. Breakfast - rancid butter and half opened packs in bowl. No brown bread. Poor quality bacon, etc. etc.
Review 23:the room was small , cramped and we had no room at all .we had to squeeze past the bed in order to get to the bathroom and the tv was so small you could hardly see it from the bed.v poor room
Review 24:the location was ok
Review 25:Hotel tired , needs upgrading , a branch was used to wedge the window open ! Staff could not speak English very well
Review 26:I would not recommend this hotel .
Review 27:Both mattresses had seen better days, you could feel the springs, also very little hanging space for clothes.
Review 28:Good location, free parking, free wi-fi, staff were very pleasant, clean towels every day
Review 29:Hotel reception staff spoke little engish and did not understand any of my requests which the hotel failed to deliver to our needs. i.e we wanted to order a meal at 6pm from the bar menu. Reception struggled to relay that the Manager/Chef had not turned up yet! Tried to order breakfast to take with us in morning again language problem and went withiut another meal whilst staying at the Lismore hotel. Im sorry this needs reporting to the Banbury council and trading standards in order for this hotel to have a major shake up in all areas.
Review 30:Shower was nice and hot with lots of power. Room was clean and tidy, Tea & Coffee was supplied in room
Review 31:Lovely location in walking distance of Banbury. The hotel staff were lovely and our breakfasts were excellent and plenty of it. We were a reasonable distance from Silverstone where we saw the Moto GP. All-in-all a great visit.
Review 32:Very small room - no bedside tables - strong smell of paint in room and window difficult to open - useless paper bathmat only one bath towel each - no hand towels.
Review 33:Kettle not automatic and set off smoke alarms twice, causing upset to other guests. No hair dryer (had said there was). Gave numbers for phone but no phone. No glasses only plastic beakers. Only 2 hangers. No towel rails/hooks. Notice said breakfast til 10am but told only 9.30am. Glass shelf in bathroom on floor not attached to fittings. Only 1 pkt of hot chocolate and not replaced. Only sugar and no sweeteners. Only 1 mug and spoon and nowhere to put used spoon. No clean mug and spoon one day. I expect a lot more than this for the £100 per night that they were charging. Breakfast was good but was charged separately making it £107.95 per night.
Review 34:The location for my purpose
Review 35:the owner was not very personable. It would have made such a difference had he been more cheery. We did stay at peak rate time and felt £140 a night for the room for 2 people was expensive as it was only a 2 star hotel
Review 36:The location was very handy
Review 37:The room was small the whole place look grim, looked dirty very old deco which made it look dirty . If i hadn't been on my own , and with my family there is no way I would have stayed there.Overall absolutely terrible.Staff polite but gave you a uneasy feeling.
Review 38:Nothing terrible
Review 39:The room was cold and noise from passing traffic kept me up so I slept poorly. The bedspread was a little torn with someone else's foundation make up stain on it.
Review 40:It was a short walk from the station which was handy and near enough to shops and restaurants. The bathroom was very clean. The TV worked well.
Review 41:the tiny bathroom was dirty only windows in the bedroom were at least 10 foot from the floor iron just left on the floor ironing board not fit for use
Review 42:handy for our purpose in visiting the area
Review 43:I thought it a tad unfair on the young ladies who wwere working reception on Sunday morning that neither of them spoke English. The same young ladies took our breakfast order and did not appear to be able to understand that either. Not their fault that they don't speak the language of course.
Review 44:Beds were so comfortable! Nice homely atmosphere. And proper locks on the doors.
Review 45:Don't go near this place if you need wifi. No bulb in the ceiling light. A tiny room with little to recommend it over sleeping in the boot of your car. The guy at the desk was full of excuses. Not normal for me to bad mouth a place but I wouldn't go here again.
Review 46:I don't know where to start, the rude attitude of the owner. The dirty room with mildew, damp and mould, the fridge wasn't working, no signage to find the car park which was always full when you arrived back late at night, the sight of all the clutter and rubbish outside the kitchen plus the smell of old dirty cooking oil was enough for me to not even contemplate having food here, one window was being held up by a coat hanger, a sign inside the room had all the glass cracked with pieces missing. Very poor indeed I would save your money and book else where
Review 47:There is plenty tea/coffee/hot chocolate sachets in the room
Review 48:Cooking smells in the main area could be avoided using some sort of subtle fragrances. Bed was saggy and not very comfortable. Shower pressure was poor.
Review 49:The room was clean
Review 50:Breakfast - Powdered eggs? who uses that stuff nowadays, bacon akin to cardboard awful. The room was weird, 4 poster bed great, modern leather sofa and mis-mash of furniture coupled with curtains that 1 did not fit the windows and 2 did not have enough curtain rings to hold them up - more like a student bedsit!
Review 51:The room stank of gloss paint but it was a bad paint job. The owner was very u.welcoming know he had issues but still. It was pokey basic and more hostel than hotel
Review 52:It was not good
Review 53:There was a strong smell of damp in the room when we walked in. The window was left wide open. The cushion on the bed was dirty. The tea making facilities were ok, a tray to put the cups on would have saved marking the shelf and there was no spoon to stir your drink with... impossible to have the hot chocolate that was there. Only bath towels were provided, no hand towels. The bathroom needed a proper clean, it wasn't 10/10. There was no bed side light, the room so cramp the bed was rammed against the wall, not at all what the photograph of a typical room looked like. Off road parking was full when we returned late, so had to park in the middle of the access road.
Review 54:Thick cotton sheets that were ironed and clean, as were the table cloths on the breakfast table. The room was away from the road, so very quiet.
Review 55:The hotel looks disgusting. Rundown in all aspects. Outside the rooms ( 45 & 51) were like garbage piled up rusty devices, mattress, sofas etc. The rooms are so smelly and filthy that you feel like vomiting just as you open the door. Filthy bathrooms, beds, cupboards. I/we are shocked that the hotel has a licence to run !!! Should be inspected by H&S inspectors as well as wires and devices are dangerous in all rooms. On top of all this, the owner put the most sour face and very unhelpful.
Review 56:Furniture and decor old, tired and didn't match. Appeared to be 1 person serving breakfast and waited for 10 minutes for her to appear in the room whilst she was seeing to a table of 4
Review 57:It was close to the centre of Banbury so we could walk in
Review 58:Room had a slight smell of sewerage coming from the toilet. Bed was very small and uncomfortable. Shower was just a dribble. Overall a largely overpriced hotel. £40 a night should be top price for this hotel.
Review 59:Sheets an room were cleaned everyday.
Review 60:Bed should have been thrown away years ago, and the place was dirty - I wish you could attach photos. I certainly agree with comments on parking - it is well hidden at the back. Considering the same cost as other hotels I have stayed at in the town, not good.
Review 61:I survived the bed. On the bright side, the cooked breakfast was very good, and the breakfast staff very helpful.
Review 62:Could not find the carpark, not signed, staff member sarcastic when asked for directions, informed me that the car park at the rear was at the back! the room was smelly, the bathmat made form paper, the shower sprayed in all directions. there were ants in the room, and the carpet had not been hoovered under the bed. Very very nasty experince.
Review 63:Bed was rather dated and seemed to slope backwards. Duvet was the wrong size leaving an option of feet or shoulders to get cold.
Review 64:Room was reasonably clean although the waste bin hadn't been emptied. Shower very good and plenty of towels, soap and hot water. Landlord very friendly.
Review 65:Dirty bathroom, hairs and mould. Needed a good lick of paint and a good clean. Room carpet needed a good clean and de cob web.
Review 66:The location to town for restaurants, short walk down the hill.
Review 67:Hotel was dirty staff not to be seen very tired building . Breakfast was appalling old food reheated fresh fruit in bowl had dried out so tried the brioche but sadly was 2 months out of date. Not recommended at all except to the council inspector. AVOID this hotel
Review 68:Plenty of parking
Review 69:Very poor WiFi!!
Review 70:Good brekfast. The room and bathroom very tired looking, dated and shabby. Basic facilities in bathroom and could do with a good clean. Hard mattress. Outside areas also shabby with lots of rubbish around.
Review 71:No heating and didn't do anything about it until we complained twice, first time we were informed there was a leak, second time was informed they had just forgot to switch it on!
Review 72:Comfortable and quiet
Review 73:The first room had not been cleaned the aecond room was discusting the towles where smelly the pipes in the bathroom was smelly the sgower was grimy the shower door feel on me when in the shower the television had one chanel the morning staff where rude and you had to pay extra for breakfast i would like a refund as this was ment for valentines and we had a very awfal experience i have never stayed in a hotel like this and i will not be returning
Review 74:Would not want another chalet room. Room inside hotel please. Noise from cars starting from 6am is not my choice of alarm call.
Review 75:Easy to walk in to central Banbury. To see the cross.
Review 76:Omg reception staff not friendly, room was very dirty, small and cold.Bathroom very small and just cold water. I wonder if double bed is s-osmall, how looks like single bed. Very dissappointed.
Review 77:Space is very limited in the chalet room but i coped ok. I think more attention to detail in cleaning could go some way to improving things, windows & frames for example. A bucket of cigarette butts outside my door was not emptied during my 5 night stay.....We don't all smoke.
Review 78:I like the chalet arrangemement, my primary incentive for staying here because of the convenience of a private door & easy access. My vehicle being right nearby is a plus. The staff addressed the room daily unless asked not to. Daily clean towels, bed changed or remade & a general clean up. Nobody bothered me during my stay. A useable TV & good free WI-FI.
Review 79:The bed was squeaky and the tv DVD player that was included didn't work at all, the room smelt quilt mouldy and there was a big pot of fags outside our door which made it smell horrible, also on arrival we got charged an extra £12 for my partner even though the booking was "per room" not "per person" then the manager had a go at me for it. Really un acceptable
Review 80:The wifi was good and the shower/toilet was really nice and clean etc. you got a lot of appliances such as an ironing board, fan, extra heater, kettle etc
Review 81:No wardrobe; freezing cold room when arrived; uncomfortable bed (four poster) mould on windows in bathroom; cigarette end and ash in top drawer of unit alongside bed
Review 82:very little. Room got warmer when heater came on but was supplemented by a portable electric radiator with wonky wheels.
Review 83:Could hear some lorries on the road early in the morning (can't be helped), and I have to admit that the paper bath mat seemed unnecessary.
Review 84:The room had character with beams showing, the shower was nice and hot, the bed was harder than I usually go for but comfortable nonetheless and plenty of hot drinks to choose from! Good options for breakfast and the full English was cooked well. Overall it was good for a one-night stay, however I'd probably go for more stars if staying somewhere for longer.
Review 85:The 'chalet' was nothing like the photo on their website - it was small, dark, cramped and not very clean. As soon as you walked into the room you were virtually in bed! There was a paper bathmat in the bathroom - a thing that I've never seen before & totally unfit for purpose. There was also something amiss with the proportions of the sink in the bathroom, too low I think, I kept hitting my head against the glass shelf. Parking is impossible & the location of the parking lot is hard to find and difficult to navigate. I didn't find the staff friendly or helpful and the breakfast was terrible. I asked for brown bread and got bacon! I would say avoid at all costs!
Review 86:The bed was very comfortable.
Review 87:Breafast was swimming in grease... really not worth paying the extra for it.
Review 88:Hotel owner was very polite and friendly. Great location 10 min walk to town centre. Room was clean and tidy
Review 89:2 of the electricity sockets in the room did not work. Mattress will need replacing very soon as it was a bit "roll to the middle".
Review 90:10 minute walk to town centre, so no parking costs. Despite being near a main road our room was quiet. Breakfast was good. Pleasant bar.
Review 91:We were in a chalet room, which was tiny, about 2 feet around the side of a small double bed. The bathroom was also tiny, had to 'side saddle' the toilet and the shower was either scalding or freezing.
Review 92:The bed was pretty comfortable
Review 93:It was dirty in the room ,restaurant . There was someone shouting for an hour and a half in the middle of the night. The breakfast was inedible. The room was so dirty there was things left in bedside cupboard. Disgusting
Review 94:Room could do with updating. Kettle was on dresser but no plug nearby so had to unplug bedside lamp and put it there. And there was no coffee, only tea and hot chocolate
Review 95:Sat. nav. does not deliver you to front door, and will struggle to find vehicle access. Take a look at aerial photographs to work it out - pretty easy really.
Review 96:Main building has some grand features. Annex rooms crisp and modern. Hard working staff. Solid breakfasts.
Review 97:The room was small but it was adequate for one night.
Review 98:We booked a chalet room and liked the fact that we could walk straight from the car park to our room without going into the hotel.
Review 99:Room was damp and smelt of mildew Room 51. Very small and uncomfortabledouble bed. Shower Luke warm. Breakfast was badly organised and understaffed and waitress did not speak a word of English. We had to ask veryyoung waiter to be served. Faulty Towers comes to mind!
Review 100:A long hike up the stairs to the 3rd floor. The last stairway is very narrow and has two turns in it, making it difficult to get luggage up.
Review 101:The bed was comfortable and the place was clean.
Review 102:Cigarette butts everywhere. Smell of smoke in room even though sign said No Smoking. Mattress lumpy. Pillows very thin. Bacon overcooked at breakfast.
Review 103:Staff very friendly.
Review 104:The fact that it was so expensive for a particularly unpleasant hotel. The rooms were small, the hotel was very old and run down. The cost did not even include breakfast.
Review 105:Nothing about it.
Review 106:poor value for money. breakfast extra, room dingy and dirty. No hand towels or glasses. No food that evening chef off sick. Lager couldn't be changed because the member of staff didn't know how to change the barrel, in any case she was the only one there covering the bar and reception and handling complaints. She had been ther 12 hours on her own. Noisy guests until 6am. Would never go back.
Review 107:The staff
Review 108:There was nobody to check us in. A key was left on the desk with our details on. Nobody to check us out. Our card for booking was used without us chip and pin. The paperwork was left on the desk with all others, so any other guest could see. Data Protection??? When my wife checked her bank statement we had a debit for £80, another for £160 and a credit for £80, which meant that we had been overcharged £80!! After speaking to the manager, who blamed barclaycard we eventually had a refund a couple of days later. We would not stay again!
Review 109:The room was comfortable.
Review 110:Feels like a general lack of care from the owner/staff, from the "QUIET, we have other guests" sign that greets you as you enter to the "bath mat" that is labelled a bath mat buy is actually just a sheet of paper. Need I say more.
Review 111:too expencive, not good value for money. the breakfast was ok, but to expencive. the room was not clean, found dirt and garbage, and lots of hair in the bathroom. the waterpressure in the shower was poor. had to wait a long time for hot water in the shower, and it was very difficult to adjust the hot/cold water in the shower, it was either to hot or to cold, took me almost 30 minutes to get it right. Very poor wifi at the room, but right outside the roomdoor it was ok.
Review 112:A good bed Good location for my purpose, the fairport cropredy convention
Review 113:The room was not clean, dust all around the skirting boards. Mould around the window and door. Previous guests contents still in the tiny fridge which had been switched off. Stayed for two nights but no one came in to clean the room after the first night. Tried to change hotels but because of the Cropredy Festival all places were fully booked. The outside chalet rooms did not appear as advertised. Plus this place was expensive. Would not consider staying here very again.
Review 114:To be honest NOTHING
Review 115:The room obviously had not been cleaned. The dresser with tea making facilities was tea stained and covered in biscuit crumbs. Biscuit packet left on the floor and the carpet not Hoovered. The back boards over the beds were filthy and grease stained. The carpet leading to the en suite was frayed and loose. The tops of the taps indicating hot/cold were missing and tap tops green. The bedroom and en suite needed decorating and generally cleaning. Very poor standard for the price charged. Cutlery at the breakfast table was dirty. Breakfast was greasy, and Lukewarm. The mushrooms were like dried cardboard with a long hair found within the food. The manager was not around Sunday morning with two young females running the restaurant and reception. A full refund should be made! Weekend spoilt.
Review 116:The manager did act on my complaint and gave the room a quick clean. The sheets were crisp white and the towels white and fluffy. Checking out.
Review 117:Breakfast took a lot to be desired. Mushrooms like crisps. Cutlery needed a bit of attention, needs checking before laying the table.
Review 118:Very comfortable bed. Bathroom clean. Evening meal very nice.
Review 119:Dirty room Overpriced - £140 for one night, breakfast extra, didn't have it as hotel dirty No facilities like a hair dryer Old furniture Wiring dodgy Why was there an old iron and ironing board in the room? Enough said I think
Review 120:The wait for breakfast one morning, but this was a one-off and did not recur.
Review 121:The flexibility in dealing with our requirements. I would use this hotel again.
Review 122:everything.The price for the room was mouth-wateringly high and yet they didn't clean it in the morning; a lamp had no light bulb, the toilet seat was broken, the curtains 'hanging off' the tracks, no water glasses, no toiletries - 2 x other beds in the room which was not explained prior to booking. If I had wanted to sleep in a dormitory I would have asked to do so. Breakfast was swimming in grease and the butter packets melting in the heat. It was a depressing weekend.
Review 123:nothing really!
Review 124:Everything apart from the linen was filthy. It took an hour after we ordered for the breakfast to be brought to the table. The owner was abrupt and the waitress was ignorant and unhelpful.
Review 125:The sheets and towels were clean. Free parking.
Review 126:The hotel advertised having things they did not have for example I brought a dvd to watch before having a busy the next day. The room advertised having a dvd player. The tv did not have a dvd player what so ever. The bathroom did not have toiletries for example either.
Review 127:A member of staff went out of his way for us.
Review 128:Breakfast not included in price
Review 129:Close to town, warm external chalet rooms.
Review 130:Our dogs were welcome in the chalet rooms which although fairly small in size had everything you may want for a one night stop over
Review 131:There was no heating . The bed broke. The room stank of fried food. When we complained all we got in return was I'll let the manager know.
The Fine Print
