Reviews for Piersland House Hotel

Review 1:I loved everything during our stay. The only thing that would have made it better for me is if there had been a fridge in our room. Although there were tea/coffee making facilities, I don't take hot drinks and like my cold drinks as cold as possible, so a fridge in all rooms please and it would be perfect!

Review 2:Absolutely nothing.

Review 3:Got upgraded to best room in Hotel. Food was first class and staff were friendly and attentive. The whole atmosphere of the Hotel was excellent, everything we expected and then some!

Review 4:Good, well run and quiet traditional hotel. Excellent disabled access to lodge room, access to main building more complicated, but overall enjoyed the stay

Review 5:There was no trouser press although the room did have an iron and ironing board.

Review 6:Friendly and helpful staff. Room was spacious, spotless, very comfortable and newly decorated. The food in the bar was well cooked, well presented and enjoyable. Breakfast was very good.

Review 7:No lift.

Review 8:Friendly, helpful staff. Clean. Plenty of choice at breakfast. Good food in restaurant and reasonably priced. Atmospheric Bar and Dining areas. Good car park.

Review 9:super location, extensive menu of high standard food. Friendly staff, very accommodating. Decorated very tastefully with cosy log fires in the cold weather.

Review 10:The only problem was a reception downstairs which although a distance away the noise carried and it finished late.

Review 11:The room was large and the facilities were very good. Excellent breakfast

Review 12:Room not as good as the one we had on a previous visit.

Review 13:Location and food was very good. Hotel has a bit of character and staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 14:Our room number 7, was incredibly dated. The furniture was old and worn. The bathroom was very small and the shower had hardly any pressure at all.

Review 15:Location and area were excellent and the hotel looked nice from the outside

Review 16:I've stayed at the Piersland many, many times. The grounds AND facility are outstanding. The staff is friendly, helpful, and efficient...always willing to assist. The food is excellent.

Review 17:I enquired about bringing my two dogs and was told that this would cost £15 per dog because of the additional cleaning. Unless they clean the room twice because there are two dogs, this is unreasonable.

Review 18:Lovely, spacious accommodation, excellent food and courteous staff.

Review 19:I wanted to stay in the main hotel, as a female travelling alone, however was told that was not possible and I had been 'upgraded' to a chalet... This room as a dark walk from my car as all parking spaces at the out houses were taken, the room was old, the shower was over the bath, toiletries were decidedly minimal... It did not feel like an upgrade, and I was annoyed I was given no choice and the booking did not state I would be staying out of the main hotel.

Review 20:Main hotel looked lovely, grounds were pleasant and location near Troon and the sea, great

Review 21:The only very small complaint was that the milk in the room was off so we were unable to get a cup of tea but the reception staff were very apologetic about it.

Review 22:All good there was nothing we didn't like

Review 23:Welcoming excellent service traditional style hotel with beautiful gardens and outlook I can thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Review 24:Only bad point no fridge in the room

Review 25:Very friendly accommodating staff, loved the cottage style rooms, beautiful gardens, all in all a great stay will certainly go back

Review 26:Shower over the bath (not really useful for elderly folks) - in fact my husband was unable to use the facility as there were no grab rails on the walls to help him out of the bath. There were handles on the bath which were no use when using the shower.

Review 27:Very interesting old mansion house hotel - great location, easy access, lovely food and great atmosphere in the eating area.

Review 28:Nice location and surroundings. Beautiful garden and outlook. Bedroom and toilet recently refurbished to a high standard, and Excellent food and friendly staff.

Review 29:Newly refurbished rooms are lovely and very clean. We were attending a wedding in the hotel. Nothing was too much trouble and we were well looked after.

Review 30:Found the decor of the room, situated at the front of the hotel in a separate block, very depressing. Breakfast was very average

Review 31:Staff at dinner were very friendly and went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed the experience, especially the whisky-tasting. Lovely hotel in beautiful gardens, shame the weather was not better for us to take advantage of the well-kept grounds

Review 32:A very stylish Victorian house with original features. We were given one cottage suite so I couldn't really appreciate the antique rooms of the main house.

Review 33:A little bit worn and our first bed was very uncomfortable. It should have been upgraded before our arrival.

Review 34:The staff and the location are the best! I also liked the pub area.

Review 35:On our 2nd night the neighbours in a near by cottage (who were also a wedding party) were a bit noisy and had unruly children who were breaking glass bottles and throwing rubbish on the road outside of the cottages.

Review 36:We were attending a wedding on our first night. The hotel planning, organising and coordination of the whole event was first class. The meal was excellent as was the full Scottish breakfast the following morning.

Review 37:We were treated to an upgrade and the room was beautifully styled. Lovely spacious garden and outdoor eating options. The restaurant offerings were of a great standard. Conveniently located to Royal Troon Golf Course.

Review 38:After seeing other rooms in the hotel ours must have been the smallest, the en suite was no more than a cupboard the toilet may as well have been in the middle of the room

Review 39:hotel was clean

Review 40:WIFI is good in the public area but a bit hit or a miss in the bedrooms

Review 41:Nice clean comfortable hotel. Excellent food, serving not only guests but also the general public. Very central for many fabulous golf courses

Review 42:Our room (204) overlooked the kitchen and the air conditioning/extractor fans made the room quite noisy, particularly at 5.30am when they were switched on.

Review 43:Excellent golfing location. Comfortable hotel, good food

Review 44:A little disorganised in Rest on Sat night.Took a little while to get our reserved table but it was very busy but worth the delay.

Review 45:Location was ideal and very pretty.Comfortable.Lovely food/wine.

Review 46:Asked for first floor room near stairs got second top floor. Could have complained but didn't managed access wasn't great but staff helped girl in chair with ramps old building no lifts

Review 47:Food very good room fitting beautiful huge bed lovely building nice Breakfast nice waiting staff and bar staff excellent

Review 48:Our friend had an unresolved issue with a room and the staff at reception made no effort to keep the complaint quiet as we could hear them openly discussing this at reception as we were leaving. its disappointing that they couldn't have been more professional and shown more respect for one of their guests - especially as she was the bride.

Review 49:Great venue for a wedding

Review 50:Only thing I regretted was there wasn,t a grab bar in our shower, and as I have had a hip injury this would have been so helpful.that is the only thing that was in the least a bit of a bother

Review 51:We thought that the staff were ready to assist and help us

Review 52:Everything

Review 53:Arrived to be told that we had been goven saga free upgrade to saga lodge room. Check in was quick and simple. Room was very clean and met all our needs. The flat screen tv could have been a little bit larger. Great sleep. Breakfast had to pay extra, but it was really good. A pity only one person takes your breakfast order. This slowed everything down, but worth the wait.

Review 54:Recently had a stay at the Piersland for a wedding. I have to say it was absolutely fantastic, the service, the staff and the bed !!! It was massive and so comfy, only bad thing I would say, is that I needed another hour or 2 in bed haha through no fault of my own for being so hungover. Great stay and would definitely come back, no questions asked.

Review 55:Disappointing that a pet friendly hotel does not allow pets into the bar. Had to find other pet friendly place to accommodate. You're either pet friendly or you're not!!

Review 56:Cottage room was excellent - very spacious and good for dog. Hotel is in an excellent location.

Review 57:The bar on the left entering the front door is disappointing - beautiful fire place and decor is awful in comparison . Can't complain about and of staff or food - all excellent.

Review 58:Some staff were grumpy and unfriendly. Others indifferent. Housekeeping staff were nice however.

Review 59:Room was large and clean. Breakfast was very nice. Lovely location near beach.

Review 60:The memorable experience of coming back to Piersland again after 17 years ago for our Silver Wedding Anniversary and also 45 years ago when it was Christian Endeavour Scotland where I propsed to my wife.

Review 61:Nothing

Review 62:One night stay for anniversary. On arrival upgraded to one off lodge rooms then found a bottle of prosecco and chocolate,s in room fantastic touch from hotel. Room, staff, food all excellent Will return.

Review 63:One of the 8 rooms we booked had a terrible smell, we were moved room however to a smaller room with no compensation offered for inconvenience. When spending so much money a small gesture would have been more likely to encourage us to use hotel again.

Review 64:Lovely food, good service, great location.

Review 65:Staff not very welcoming, did not enquire about our stay when checking out or thank us for our business. Breakfast was unorganised with the wrong orders to wrong tables throughout morning.

Review 66:Breakfast coffee was stewed/poor. No alternative option, such as esspresso available. No comfortable seating lounge to sit in during the day (in evening bar is good). Thick dust fluff around picture frame in bedroom above the radiator (not cleaned), but otherwise the room was very clean.

Review 67:Character and qualkity of the building. Helpful and polite staff.

Review 68:arrived a 3.45, dinner was booked for 8 couldn't even get a sandwich so we had to leave hotel and go to Prestwick for some food not ideal as it was supposed to be a relaxing break very disappointed, lovely hotel but wont be back for that reason

Review 69:location

Review 70:Nothing !!

Review 71:Weekend from start to finish was great Staff couldn't have been more helpful Room was beautiful and well decorated with stylish fabric Food and wine choices excellent

Review 72:Although not fine dining I would have preferred a napkin not a paper tissue for the evening.

Review 73:The refurb room was very comfortable and tastefully decorated (6 ). Breakfast and staff there excellent.

Review 74:Arrived with 3 friends for an overnight for my 50th birthday ,the staff are amazing and helpful and down to earth which I like, not to in your face. Our rooms were 15 & 16 right at the top of the hotel and they were massive, the bathrooms were huge. You have your kettle and plenty of tea, coffee and hot chocolate sachets. We ate in the bar restaurant and the meal was fantastic, big portions and very reasonably priced. Breakfast you are spoilt for choice. I would go back here in a flash.

Review 75:On arrival we were given a lovely room on the ground floor. Sadly it was next to the kitchen fan.... They moved us with no problem. Room not so good but okay.

Review 76:Cold room. WiFi useless. No residents area where you can sit and enjoy a drink - the whole place is dedicated to local dining and you have to fit in with that. The food was very mediocre. The choice of drinks was poor - the wine list doesn't even have the hotel name on it so I guess the bar has been outsourced or something. As a resident, you feel like an alien.

Review 77:Nice building.

Review 78:Bar staff had to be advised how to make a bloody mary.....

Review 79:Haven't been to this hotel since the mid 1970s, great to see its historic features preserved but also its facilities modernised. Friendly staff, stayed in a very comfortable and spacious cottage and most importantly it was warm (it was below freezing outside). Good wheelchair facilities too

Review 80:Everything about this hotel was excellent. Lovely clean spacious room, delicious breakfast with plenty of choice, staff were very pleasant and helpful. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable

Review 81:Nothing, the stay was brilliant and worth every penny.

Review 82:Friendly, approachable staff and comfortable rooms. The restaurant was also fantastic with food that was presented beautifully and tasted great too.

Review 83:Personally felt the welcome was somewhat impersonal and our stay clashed with a function in the main restaurant. also the cottages mean a little walk to the hotel which is ok if it is not raining

Review 84:location is good for golfers just opposite the Royal Troon GC. The attached cottages do provide some privacy.

Review 85:they stopped service hot food at 9 and we got there after 9 after a very long journey

Review 86:this is a beautiful hotel we were there for a wedding. food was amazing. staff were very friendly

Review 87:the staff went above and beyond, when we returned from our bike ride, soaked to skin, we had already booked out but they very kindly gave us a room to shower in, very much appreciated.

Review 88:Had to leave and come home again

Review 89:I attended Piersland House Hotel on 14th November for a family wedding myself my young son Rory who is two and my mum and dad. From the minute we arrived the surrounding were stunning, on arrival the staff could'nt have been nicer and vey efficient we got keys to our cottage rooms very quickly and precise instructions on how to get to them. The wedding meal was 1st class and presented very quick and very warm and very efficient staff and very good with the wee one getting his chicken nuggets and special request. Later on after the meal we had gone to our rooms to freshen up mum and dad were sitting quite the thing when their room door opened and to guys walked in, there had been a mix up with the rooms, the guys left with no problem, reception then called to explain the mix up we should have been given room now 23 and 24 instead of 22 and 23. Reception apologised for the mix up and gave my parents a complimentary bottle of champagne which was a very pleasant gift. This was an especially nice touch and very good Customer Service and dealt with very professionally. Rooms were very nice and very comfortable and very good value for money and breakfast excellent. I would definitely recommend to anyone. I also loved the playground for the kids also Rory had a great time. Thanks again for a wonderful day and night.

Review 90:Shower was too high pressure and shower curtains are so irritating. Get a screen! Sofa in living area very uncomfortable.

Review 91:Nice cottage with good bed and facilities. Most staff were friendly, nice breakfast with lovely room with real fires. Little park and lawn area is good for kids. Only 5 mins from beach. Each cottage has parking spaces adjacent.

Review 92:Nothing negative to say

Review 93:Staff were welcoming, friendly and ran the day smoothly. Food was excellent and rave revues from all our guests. Would highly recommend for all occasions.

Review 94:There is no residents' lounge for bad weather comfort. This is not a deal breaker because the rooms are adequately furnished and the lounge/bar is sumptuously decorated and has a proportion of armchair type seats. However, its reputation and popularity for meals makes it a busy venue.

Review 95:The hotel is adjacent to the golf courses, making it easy to beach walk etc. The building and grounds are beautiful. The food offering is absolutely brilliant and reasonably priced. I would thoroughly recommend it as an Ayrshire base.

Review 96:I really could not find fault with hotel.

Review 97:Comfortable surroundings. Spacious bedroom and fantastic bathroom. Very homely. Staff were helpful and friendly. Food was delicious.

Review 98:Cleanliness of room 10 poor standard, very disappointed in that as we were looking at this as a potential wedding venue, having to reconsider if this would be a standard throughout or a one off !!!

Review 99:Great staff Great location and setting Hospitality overall Bar facilities excellent Menu a little fussy but food exceptional Well presented breakfast

Review 100:The disabled access could be more designed because the ramp has a hill which can be a struggle for wheelchair pushers, plus you have to go through a bar that's never lite up so very dark and dreary to get from the cottages to the main restaurant and lounge area

Review 101:Loved the idea of having apples and the best of all is the little fridge in the rooms now with complimentry bottled water.

Review 102:I thought the overall friendliness of the staff was truly exceptional. In particular, I would commend the gentlemen that looked after the seating and service at the ;larger bar area in the evening and those who supervised the breakfast arrangements.

Review 103:rooms really warm

Review 104:being located in the lodges rooms really good breakfast good and plenty of it Easy arrival and departure even though wedding party there

Review 105:Breakfast wasn't included in our room rate and I felt that £12 a head was a bit steep, but we paid it anyway to kickstart our day

Review 106:I loved the spaciousness of the courtyard rooms and the facilities within the room. I could happily have spent a couple of hours wandering around Troon and the rest of the time in the room. It really was a home from home. The Red Bowl restaurant was really good value for money.

Review 107:We were in room 3. The springs on one side of the bed had gone resulting in a very uncomfortable and sleepless night. We had been at a wedding in a neighbouring hotel so it was late when we got back and we just tried to get some sleep rather than start complaining very late on. Room 3 is above the flat roof area presumably the kitchens as, very early in the morning, the extractor fans kicked in and were so noisy we had to close the window. On advising staff in the morning, there was no apology, we were just advised that our comment would be passed on to housekeeping....very poor in a 4 star hotel. I would say to anyone considering this hotel, it is a nice hotel, but don't accept room 3 (or any other room in that wing if you sleep with windows open)

Review 108:The Hotel was well placed in Troon. The public areas were very nice, the room was very clean and the breakfast was very good

Review 109:When we arrived at checkin for 2pm we were told that the lunches stoppedat 2.30 so by the time we got into the room we missed lunch which Ithought was a bid dissapointing that we could only get a sandwichbecause the chef was away and it was a waitress that was making them upherself which I thought was a little unprofessional for the hotel.

Review 110:We have stayed before and loved it so went back, the first time westayed in the cottages which had a separate bedroom from the sittingroom which was great, the second time we stayed in the lodge whichwas far nicer decorated but I thought was a big more comfy, overallwe loved it

Review 111:The room we stayed in, bed was a bit firm, and the major gripe was the shower. You got wet turning it on, and soaked the bathroom floor. Minor faults though. 2 days was not enough!

Review 112:Service with a smile, remembered from working visits some time ago. Clean comfortable room in the main house, Good choice of evening meal menus, and an excellent breakfast service. Well kept gardens to walk in, and the weather was brilliant.

Review 113:We didn't like leaving!

Review 114:We had a most enjoyable stay in Piersland House, unfortunately only for one night. We wish we could have stayed longer. The staff were very helpful, the room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 115:Nothing. .. It is a really nice hotel

Review 116:Nice hotel... friendly and attentive staff... nothing to much trouble. Room was very good... large... clean and bed comfy. breakfast also excellent. SO MUCH BETTER AND NICER than the Marine Hotel across the road.... which was dreadful and I will never stay at again.

Review 117:Not happy that we couldn't order a glass of Shiraz to go with our lunch but hey, we survived.

Review 118:Receptionist immediately chased up room availability to allow us time to change for our family wedding. Grabbed a quick sandwich in the lounge which was very tasty. Whole wedding went without a hitch and nothing was too much trouble for the staff including preparing a bottle of milk for our little grandson. Everything was great.

Review 119:Difficult stairs to climb. Lack of decent light in the bathroom for make-up, etc. Food was average, nothing special. We had the grilled fish but there was no crispy skin and all the textures were the same.

Review 120:Liked the location, the bed and the ensuite bathroom.

Review 121:Bedrooms at back of hotel - especially room no 1 - are affected by kitchen noise/fans/industrial refridgerator switching on and off. Really off-putting. Room was poorly serviced after first night (stayed 2 nights) with bed superficially made and dirty dishes/glasses still left in room after maid had finished.

Review 122:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was lovely.

Review 123:Twin beds, one uncomfortable and creaky one good. Wet room floor kept flooding even several hours after use, used too many towels to keep it at bay- cottage 28

Review 124:Great cottages good quality food good service great location

Review 125:The tables we had diner at could have been awee bit more stylish to match the seating. Some cutlerly a little old looking and breakfast teapots abit old but not Victorian.

Review 126:Bathroom size room comfort oldy worldly meets modern chic. Food was good although the Bacon at breakfast should have been smoked bacon more tender.

Review 127:Noise from ventilation fans woke me up 5.30am both mornings. Staff were not friendly. Breakfast was £12 per person.

Review 128:The hotel building and public areas were lovely.

Review 129:Heating must have been centrally controlled. Although it was July the rooms felt chilly at night and I would have appreciated being able to turn on the radiators to take the hill off the room

Review 130:Chalet type rooms around a courtyard. These were spacious with separate living room and bedroom. Beautifully decorated and well equipped.

Review 131:I do think, when you have paid over £100 a night for a room, they could throw in a bit of breakfast, even if its just toast. I always think its a bit much when you end up spending another £10 for something to eat.

Review 132:Beautiful, interesting building. Very spacious, comfortable rooms with king size beds. Nice position by golf course and not far from the beach. Good access to trains to get into Glasgow and to either airport. Lovely food from a very varied evening menu.

The Fine Print

The hotel accept dogs in the cottage bedrooms only at an additional cost of GBP 15. They are not allowed in any of the other bedrooms or public areas.
