Reviews for Old Loans Inn

Review 1:the king bed was two mattresses joined together and we did feel they were well past their best. very uncomfortable.

Review 2:nice clean hotel, easy check in, plenty parking. food was of a good standard with a good range of dishes to suit all budgets.

Review 3:We ended up with a disabled room that was very nice and spacious but the sink was to low for none wheel chair users. It would of been better if there was two sinks one at normal height.

Review 4:We had a meal the night of our arrival and it was delicious would recommend to family and friends to eat here in there restaurant.

Review 5:Second Christmas Eve stay with family at this lovely, contemporary village hotel. Quiet location near to Troon, Prestwick, Irvine. Quick & easy check in/out. Spotless, good sized rooms. New dinner menu was good, varied selection. Excellent breakfast. Staff superb, particularly Hannah who served us at dinner.

Review 6:Whole hotel was very warm, and for a lady of a certain age, not a good idea! I'd rather be too cold than too warm!

Review 7:Staff were all very helpful, beautiful room, excellent food!

Review 8:we were there to celebrate my friends 60 th birthday. Rooms were first class apart from an incident when the birthday girl slipped and fell coming out of the shower. This could perhaps have been avoided had there been something she could have grabbed hold of to save herself. She gave herself a nasty crack on her hip. An accident was recorded by reception staff.

Review 9:This place is just perfect from the time we arrived till we left could not find fault the staff are lovely and everything ran like clockwork ,can't praise it highly enough.

Review 10:Bed was extremely uncomfortable and no wifi

Review 11:Staff were wonderful. Food amazing!!!! Value for money excellent. For these reasons alone we would love to visit again.

Review 12:Not much, Restaurant and bar lack character, given the age of the building. Would have liked to see an open fire given the time if year. Food and drink a bit expensive.

Review 13:Friendly staff, very clean and modern facilities. Great food, if a little overpriced. Spa bath was a nice touch.

Review 14:I bumped my head on a low ceiling , dorma window , however ia am 6"4' tall so its not the 1st time

Review 15:Comfy bed , warm clean room , manager was very helpful nothing was too much trouble , food is very good

Review 16:well am pleased to say, we had zero negative experiences everything was ace with our stay!

Review 17:standard of finish in the rooms (very high specification). deluxe room was really swish. friendly staff, chatty and helpful but not in your face. spotlessly clean. there is a lift if you are infirm. attention to detail in room little extras ie fruit bowl and water. quiet location off the beaten track. gas central heating in room. air con in room. spa bath/rainfall overbath shower. fully tiled amazing bathroom. spacious , ample room. coffee table. dressing table. superking bed. two tub chairs. sofa bed in room. phone in room. good tv channel choices. double sliding mirrored robes. built-in HDMI/aux in slots for music/media .etc(bring your own cables!). double glazing. peaceful room. blackout blind. free parking. lovely restaurant PLEASE!! YOU MUST dine there! we had a lovely meal and breakfast and cannot express enough how tasty and delicious it was, would not normally mention it but do not miss the dining here!

Review 18:Reception is seriously bad. It should be closed and relocated downstairs, and customers asked to enter via back door. Some seating in dining room is full of holes!!! We have stayed here on a few other occasions. The first time was just after it was built, things are beginning to look very tired. We will not be back. ☹️

Review 19:Spa bath....but this too had a problem! It obviously isn't used much as when I ran it, the water had a goodly amount of "black bits" which I presume came from the jets.?

Review 20:We had a roadside room so it was rather noisy, on a fairly busy road but not close to the city center.

Review 21:Staff were great. Handy parking at the side. Had all the facilities one could ask for. Nice meals.

Review 22:Aux connections for the TV did not work. Lack of a grab rail over the bath made getting out a bit difficult.

Review 23:Attention to the finer detail made my stay here worthwhile. I will be back that is for sure.

Review 24:we saw a definite decline in the standard, breakfast used to be to die for and it was very average, not having things that were on the menu, we also ate in the restaurant on our first night and both had steak at £21 a head.. Worst steak I've ever had, I aired my complaint and no one seem bothered, had a deluxe room and the bed was very uncomfortable and room too hot

Review 25:This is our 4th visit to the old loans and we did like the location for a quiet weekend

Review 26:I checked in at room 102 and the air con fan sounded like a Chinook so I asked to move rooms which they did without hesitation. I was then given room 111 which was excellent. I then came back to my room the following evening and the bed was not made still had wet towels obviously nothing had been touched. I suppose it was just poor communication that I had moved rooms but when you are paying £100.00 per night you expect better. Reception was never manned just running it on a shoestring so poor really.

Review 27:The Hotel rooms are nice and tidy

Review 28:When we checked in our room had a used towel hanging in the bathroom. We were having a quick turn around as we were going to a wedding nearby. When we arrived back in the evening we realised that our bedroom had a really strong smell of cigarette smoke, but we were too tired to complain about it.Also the room was at the front of the hotel and on a very busy road so noisy.

Review 29:The staff were very friendly. The decor and facilities were good.

Review 30:The duty managers jokes could be better!!!

Review 31:The rooms, the staff and the food were all first class. The staff were extremely helpful, very polite and very cheerful. I would have no trouble recommending The Old Loans Inn.

Review 32:None whatsover.

Review 33:The place was spotlessly clean and very well decorated. Staff were extremely friendly and the atmosphere was very relaxed. The breakfast was excellent.

Review 34:Room looked onto carpark level not very private

Review 35:Breakfast was excellent and staff friendly and helpfull. Good size bedroom but very warm. Outside garden areas very good

Review 36:Our bedrom window was large but looked straight onto the street which made changing clothes a bit tricky unless you closed the blackout blind, which makes the experience a bit gloomy. Ready buttered toast at breakfast with no jam offered...a strange approach!

Review 37:Nice bedroom and bathroom.

Review 38:Service in the restaurant was poor. Very slow and disorganised. Dirty cutlery, dirty cup, no juice, no butter, no bread at breakfast.

Review 39:Rooms lovely. Clean and comfortable.

Review 40:Lovely rooms, excellent service and great breakfast! The rooms were spacious, clean and very comfortable. The staff also managed to allow us to check in early which really helped. We would definitely stay again.

Review 41:The muzak in the hotel corridors. Fortunately, this is turned off about 9 p.m. I can also never understand why hotels love to have lots of cushions on their beds !!

Review 42:The hotel staff were very friendly and efficient. The restaurant was patronised with locals as well as hotel guests-always a good sign. My room was very comfortable. I did not use the WiFi. The hotel is about two miles from Troon railway station, where I did not see much taxi activity. If you like walking, the hotel is ideal. Allow about 35 minutes.

Review 43:In the bedroom there are a lot of old power sockets (3 round pin if you can remember them) and this makes it frustrating to plug in and power the gadgets of modern life. Probably borderline regarding legality too as whilst I haven't checked I'm not sure today's wiring regulations allow these archaic sockets.

Review 44:Wifi is poor, if it works at all. TV only shows free view/poor selection

Review 45:Location and friendliness of the staff. The rooms were clean and the place well kept

Review 46:gentleman serving breakfast wasn't particularly welcoming.

Review 47:Room furnishings and cleanliness combined with convenient location. Very pleasant contemporary outside space and balcony for meals/drinks.

Review 48:one bottle of water between 2 seems a bit mean in a double room!

Review 49:staff were friendly & helpful, hotel was quiet at night, rooms good size, bed comfortable

Review 50:The staff were very polite and welcoming excellent dining room and bar very nice décor.Menu in dining room could be not so repetitive but was very nice. overall we enjoyed our stay very much.

Review 51:no AC, but it really isn't needed. my room was over the kitchen, so I had some ventilation hum to listen too.

Review 52:staff was accomdating, hotel was recently renovated in 2009, excellent condition, nice facilities, very modern room and bath.

Review 53:Nothing

Review 54:Great Hotel, extremely comfortable, lovely Big Bedroom, friendly staff and made even better as we happened to be staying the same night as the RED ARROWS Display team.

Review 55:There was quite a lot of traffic noise as our room was at the front of the hotel which is situated on a busy main road. As we only booked for one night we kept the room.

Review 56:A nice large comfortable room.

Review 57:slight hiccup at booking as we had booked luxury room for 3 nights but hotel ha us booked for standard room...fortunately we were moved to luxury room next day

Review 58:location/staff/food /rooms

Review 59:Breakfast was OK but didn't match the quality of all other aspects.

Review 60:Very convenient for the Troon ferry port to Larne. Hotel was recently refurbished and provided excellent standard of accommodation. Staff were very welcoming. We ate in the restaurant which was surprisingly busy for a Sunday night which in itself is a recommendation. If we ever need to use the ferry again, I would certainly stay here again.

Review 61:The rooms were very warm, even with window open all night.

Review 62:Food was great, location also great! Rooms modern & clean. & staff were lovely! Very relaxed atmosphere.

Review 63:Cigarette smoke from patio below filtered up directly through our bedroom window, yuck. Had to close windows and would have loved the beautiful fresh air of the area.

Review 64:Modern accommodations. The washroom was especially well fitted

Review 65:Wasn't a bad experience but thought the dinner portions could have been a little bigger for the price that was asked.

Review 66:Very handy for travelling by car as just next to the main bypass. Atmosphere was nice and relaxing. Staff were friendly. Rooms were great.

Review 67:We didn't have long enough there just a flying visit, would probably have rated higher if had time to get to know it better. Food was superb and the staff were very friendly

Review 68:great and friendly, staff happy to help, clean, excellent food, room excellent and very comfy sleep. Breakfasts served with a smile first thing in the morning, staff 1st class.

Review 69:The f Ilene's parents were Elizabeth and William Brown. She was their first child. Perhaps her love of travelling and fine things stemmed from her father having his wife and baby brought home from the nursing home to their flat in Darnell Road in a Rolls Royce . She was a precocious child. Outspoken! Her mothers sister Kate, lived with them and Ilene said Kakie was like a second mother. Brother Billy was born when Ilene was four. They had a comfortable childhood. Not many people had either a car or a telephone in the thirties, they had both. She went to school at the new Wardie primary and holidayed at the then new Butlins Holiday camps.War broke out when Ilene was ten. With Billy she was evacuated to the Woods at Sunnyside farm in Berwickshire. Betty Wood the farmers daughter was the same age. They became like sisters and have remained friends ever since. Together they went to Auchencrow then Reston primary school and on passing their 11plus to Duns High School. As the war progressed and the danger lessened a return to Edinburgh was made and Ilenes final year at school was at Queens Street.Ilene had no interest in academic studies and left school at 14 to become a hairdresser, first at Stewart's in Princes Street where she got the sack after six months for continually turning up in her school uniform! She then went to Patrick Thomsons and had her own cubicle which was 'just great'. Her father then bought her her own shop at Meadowbank where she had an assistant. At St Serfs tennis club she met an other lifelong friend Freda and first boyfriend Alastair.Post war austerities and freedoms. Dancing at the Palais - a bit racy - the Plaza and the Cavendish Club where she first meant Duncan in the winter of 46' 47'. He never stood a chance. Handsome and smart in his demob suit she set her cap at him.

Review 70:Very helpful, obliging friendly staff.

Review 71:Our bedroom was far too warm woke up and took us ages to get back to sleep. Was away for my husbands birthday we have two very young children and was looking forward to a full night sleep. Had to put aircon on.

Review 72:Rooms where beautiful and comfortable and good was wonderful.

Review 73:Breakfast buffet was not topped up leaving very little choice. Plates were not available without asking.....a little more staff training would enhance experience for guests.

Review 74:Good standard of decor. Lovely in good weather.

Review 75:Everything was A1

Review 76:Extremely well appointed hotel that we felt was excellent value for money. Pleasant staff and good ambience. Good food at reasonable prices.

Review 77:The double bed was uncomfortable and a bit on small side. All the staff were friendly apart from the grumpy breakfast guy - obviously stressed! Coffee could have been better.

Review 78:Really nice bar area to sit on sofas and by fire and good food choice. CCTV for car park and could keep eye on car from bedroom window. Clean comfortable rooms.

Review 79:Breakfast could be improved. Very little juice left also no fresh fruit and this was breakfast at 9.30a.m.

Review 80:Convenient for what we wished for and always clean and tidy.

Review 81:The rooms were spotless, well presented and comfortable. Food was delicious and within a perfect setting. Staff were always courteous and professional and pleased to help. I shall be returning soon.

Review 82:Nothing, cracking good little hotel

Review 83:spotlessly clean room, good comfy bed, private secure parking, I travel on a motorbike so secure parking is a must. Cant really fault this hotel, excellent value as well. I stayed in 6 hotels this trip and this is one of only two I am recommending,

Review 84:This time breakfAst was not up to usual standard - in particular fresh fruit - melon hard and tasteless and poor quality strawberries - still had a lovely overnight stay

Review 85:Lovely room - efficient staff

Review 86:Squeaky floor boards in the hall way made for lots of noise when others passed your room. Also there are speakers playing music in the halls that makes it difficult to sleep ...The music was turned off at 10.30pm

Review 87:Recently upgraded so nice and new feel to the hotel. Over all its quite pleasant

Review 88:The only downside if you could call it that was the pillows just prefer feather but apart from that excellent.

Review 89:This was a well presented hotel and we were surprisingly upgrade to an executive suite with no extra cost. We were very surprised at the extensive menu and enjoyed our evening meal before heading to our event and enjoyed a lovely breakfast again a great choice and plenty of it. The lay out of the hotel was great with the outside seating area on the second floor ideal if the weather was a bit better and great with the music piping through, ideal.

Review 90:Marked down slightly as our room was far too warm, even with the windows wide open and the fan provided switched on. We had to borrow a fan from family across the hall.

Review 91:Stayed at this hotel before and returned as it has nice spacious rooms which are cleaned to a high standard. The restaurant is good for either a light bite or evening meal.

Review 92:Unsecured WiFi which was on the spotty side, also having separated networks instead of a single one isn't great. Breakfast was overcooked and didn't have the best quality ingredients, which was surprising as the restaurant food was great.

Review 93:Nice large room, extra points for having easy access tv input

Review 94:Well run Hotel/Restaurant with friendly staff and spacious, comfortable rooms. Excellent breakfast provided making room rate wonderful value for money. Restaurant staff lovely and very friendly.

Review 95:The weather lol, not a lot you can do about that, we would need to be very picky to find any faults here

Review 96:What's not to like, spotless and very friendly staff, we had a meal there to and really enjoyed that also.

Review 97:The only thing that didn't suit was as advertised was that the mp3 option of playing your own music through the audio unit didn't work unless you supplied your own connection cable. This wasn't stated on their web page.

Review 98:The room was excellent and perfectly clean and comfortable. Hotel staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was cooked to a high standard, perfectly presented with plenty of options.

Review 99:Nothing negative to speak of.

Review 100:Fantastic overnight stay. Hotel made arrangements for us to check in early, as we were attending a wedding in Troon. Very comfortable room and great breakfast. Would highly reccommend the Old Loans Inn.

Review 101:Rooms could do with Air Conditioning in summer but in Scotland that is only about 10 days

Review 102:Well maintained, friendly staff & excellent menu for both breakfast and dinner

Review 103:The staff were really friendly, rooms were spacious and well equipped. Food was excellent, and location well placed for Troon, and only 35mins from Glasgow. Would definitely recommend.

Review 104:Wonderful golf photos everywhere in the hotel. Super comfortable bed and powerful shower facilities. Draught beer, full dinner and breakfast menu. Car parking included.

Review 105:My only grumble (and this is a teeny one), was the unmanned reception desk on arrival. We stood around whilst waiting for someone to answer the bell, then ended up having to go down into the restaurant area to find someone; To which, we were then dealt with straight away.

Review 106:For dinner we both opted for the light menu 2course £11.95 of Braised Scotch Beef in Arran Ale Gravy with cubed veg and creamy mash potato (though I asked for french fries instead) with a pastry quartet. The meat was melt in the mouth tender and tasty even my husband gave it the thumbs up, no mean feat I can tell you as being a chef himself he is very particular. For breakfast as well as the familiar buffet you had the hot breakfast menu on offer of which we both had poached fillet haddock accompanied by poached egg (2 of) this again was done to perfection in-fact over all it was one of the best hotel breakfasts I have ever had. A gold star to all of the staff who were both attentive and courteous to everyone.

Review 107:The room was spacious, spotless modern and very comfortable. Fab shower and nicely scented toiletries. Reception area clean and tidy. Easy parking. Delicious breakfast, plenty of choice, relaxed atmosphere.

Review 108:Ordered the pork n leek sausages which were very overcooked!!! But was not charged for my coffee to compensate and the cooked breakfast was lovely,no burnt sausages in sight!!! So all good

Review 109:Room was lovely and spotless like home from home

Review 110:Stayed here many times and once again was not disappointed. Requested an upstairs room overlooking patio area and request was met. Thank you Old Loans.

Review 111:the bed matters was poor, as if it was on it's last legs, and creaky floor boards along the corridor and in the entrance of our room was awful to say the least.

Review 112:The food as always brilliant, restaurant and bar area still nice, and garden seating area still nice.

Review 113:Booked room for partners birthday and detailed this on the booking. Unfortunately we were given two beds pushed together which made for a very uncomfortable stay. Extremely disappointed.

Review 114:This hotel is very well kept, is luxurious but has an informal ambience. Staff are very friendly, food excellent and rooms stylish and comfortable. Absolutely no complaints.

Review 115:Hotel was modern and room smartly decorated. Bathroom clean and warm (clever mirror) with tea, coffee , water and fruit available. I ate in the dining room each evening and enjoyed the food (fajitas and fish respectively). Would be a good venue for golf trips to excellent west coast courses.

Review 116:The smell of drains in the reception area was off putting. Reception staff require some training in customer service skills.

Review 117:Breakfast was good. Bar was w

Review 118:Would have prevented a room overlooking garden as we like the window open at night and it was quite noisy with traffic

Review 119:Lovely staff, excellent food, really cosy feel

Review 120:Bedroom overheated on arrival , and didn't cool down sufficiently despite turning down the radiator .

Review 121:Excellent food at very reasonable prices .Efficient service , with pleasant relaxed ambiance .

Review 122:Never did manage to get wifi in the room but not that important to us at the time.

Review 123:Excellent freshly cooked breakfasts, even on Christmas Day at 8 a.m. Room temperature easily adjusted, always comfortable. Staff very pleasant and helpful.

Review 124:Minor disappointment that my dish wasn't as described. Otherwise, all was excellent.

Review 125:Five of us were here on Christmas Eve for a nice, relaxing break. We had got a fantastic rate for B&B and were delighted to find all our rooms were spacious, stylishly decorated, and had huge beds. The complimentary water and fruit was a nice touch. We had dinner in the restaurant. A good, varied and reasonably priced menu. Most of our food was delicious, but my pasta dish wasn't as described on the menu. I'd already returned it once, and as everything else was good I just left it. The staff were generally friendly and helpful. Awakening on a beautiful Christmas morning, the breakfast was excellent. Decent selection of continental options, along with good quality cooked breakfast. There is a roof terrace, child's play area and outdoor seating area, which we hope to make use of when we visit in warmer weather. And the housekeeping team deserve a special mention for being so bright and cheery despite working Christmas morning and for the excellent job they do. The rooms were spotlessly clean. Would happily recommend, and hope to stay here again.

Review 126:Excellent overnight stay on the 11th of November enjoyed shopping in Troon and returned to the Hotel for evening meal. The food was wonderful and I had the best Rhubard and orange crumble I have ever tasted thanks Karen Wilson

Review 127:Slight noise issue from the main road at the front but we did have the window open. Nothing at all to complain about.

Review 128:Room big and bed comfortable. Bathroom big and great shower. Nice toiletries. Everything you need in a hotel room. All the staff extremely friendly and helpful.

Review 129:A little on the short staffed. Waited at reception with several others for several minutes on arrival. Suggest that at likely peak arrival times, particularly on Friday afternoons, reception desk is manned. First impressions are very important and a small detail like this should be carefully attended to.

Review 130:Excellent standards of fit out in the rooms and facilities. Value added items ( fruit, guest supplies, wi-fi, Quality of breakfast - excellent. Staff well trained, informative and helpful. All in all a very nice experience.

Review 131:although there was no heating in the room it was so hot for us so we opened the windows but the traffic was noisy. a minor detail though.

Review 132:a warm welcome, staff very friendly. about 7pm we had a leak through the bathroom ceiling but we were immediately moved to a deluxe room and served complimentary drinks at dinner. food excellent and great value for money. we'll be back.
