Reviews for Citybest Hotel
Review 1:could not get the heating working, and also where the door to the shower and toilet kept getting stuck on the carpet ,so we could not open it far enough.
Review 2:the comfort of the beds and the staff were very welcoming as well. the breakfast was excellent and i would recommend the hotel to my family and friends.
Review 3:Radiator was far too hot in the night ! Couldn't turn it down !! Hard pillows and only 1 ! Towels very small and no shower gel
Review 4:Lovely breakfast . Lady cooked our breakfast lovely .
Review 5:Toilet/bathroom had a damp smell, there was a used soap bar on top of the shower. Very loud, you can hear next doors tv, doors always closing. Only 2 plug sockets in the room. The kettle didnt reach the plug socket. Only soap was provided, no shower gel/shampoo/shower caps. Towels were very small
Review 6:Noise at 4am and the lack of WiFi signal is appalling as our room was right beside a router this really hampers the experience if you love watching dead TV In the evening and the weather is too lame to venture out in
Review 7:Staff are friendly although no buffet available had to request selected breakfast Which was made promptly and to a good standard
Review 8:We stayed in the twin family room, one of the bed was not comfortable as the mattress was hard. Also the shower cover was not really good, it was removing from it's stand.
Review 9:The breakfast is superb!!
Review 10:it was extremely bad experience no heating, room was too cold blankets were literally wet when people passing by door outside, it was keep making noise. definitely not recommend to anyone.
Review 11:Had a room next door and not in the main hotel. The rooms are awful, nothing remotely like the photos on the website. The front door doesn't lock, The kettle was leakingl onto the base making it dangerous. Cardboard over the Windows, rooms was cold even when the heating was on
Review 12:The breakfast
Review 13:the floorboards creaked and we could hear conversations from next door rooms. Room was crammed. Started drilling right outside our window while we were asleep the next morning.
Review 14:Staff were friendly and helpful. Free parking.
Review 15:the room was tiny and it had the slanted roof. shower had barely any power and the bathroom mirror was a mess. for the price , i was expecting much more.
Review 16:the hotel had nice staff and there was parking in front which made it very easy.
Review 17:From the stairs to my room up was a disaster and the woman in kitchen who doubles as a room cleaner was not mannered and lack customer relationship
Review 18:Just a regreat
Review 19:Overpriced hotel compared to the facilities and room provided. Food, facilities, furnitures and interior
Review 20:Lady (Stanka) at the reception was very helpful and proactive.
Review 21:The bathroom was very dated and the shower was cold. There was a boiler in our room and it was very noisy throughout the night.
Review 22:The room was a good size and the beds were comfy. The breakfast was great and we didn't have to wait at all.
Review 23:Only one pillow each and no others in room, only one towel each, no hand towel or floor mat, no bedside lamp/light. Unable to turn off heater, too hot. Poorly renovated. Only stayed one night instead of two as planned. Would not recommend to anyone to stay there.
Review 24:Nothing
Review 25:The room was in a separate building, essentially a converted house. The air was damp, the walls thin, and our room was barely big enough for a single bed, let alone the double that had been shoehorned in there. Internal windows were covered with cardboard and the door had to be locked to stay closed. We could hear children crying, what sounded like an argument, and loud snoring coming from nearby rooms. The bathroom was shared and while it had been cleaned, it was in bad condition and had no waste bin for feminine hygiene products, a bath with no plug but a shower head that had no clip on the wall so you had to hold it above your head, and the pull-cord light switch was not attached to the ceiling, so you were actually pulling the installation wiring every time you operated the switch. In the bedroom there was a single socket outlet and the wardrobe doors didn't fit and banged loudly when closed. My wife refused to take a shower and when I asked for a refund of the second night we were offered a better room that still wasn't very good, and when we declined we were told we would not be refunded. As I went to look at the other room in the morning I encountered many service staff who did not speak English and it looked like some lights were being replaced, with power tools, product boxes, light fittings, etc. left in corridors across a large area, which I had to step over to get where I was going.
Review 26:The man at reception was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was of an acceptable standard.
Review 27:The walls had holes in them. The bathroom was rusty. The wardrobe was falling apart. The room smelled of marijuana.
Review 28:The receptionist was very friendly
Review 29:The bathroom, the mattress was hard and uncomfortable and our bedside table was broken so more good condition furniture. And the bedding wasn't the appropriate fit for the bed so it kept coming off
Review 30:The breakfast was nice, the free wifi
Review 31:Everything! This place was disgraceful. Window above the door had been removed and replace with a piece of taped on cardboard....same above the bed.
Review 32:Not one thing
Review 33:Lack of electric sockets. The socket for the kettle was too high on the wall. No lights close to the bed at night. Dining room inadequate for number of guests.
Review 34:Location. Clean.
Review 35:Shower was good except hot and cold taps labeled wrong way round. A bath mat would of been good as as floor slippy when wet. Only soap provided - no other toiletries.
Review 36:Clean and friendly. Ideal for train into London. Free wifi, fresh towels daily.quiet. Plenty of free parking
Review 37:Breakfast was between 7-9 which we missed! Needs to be till 12.
Review 38:Great location, just around the corner from train station. Could not have asked for a better room to stay in, was definitely worthwhile! Staff were friendly and the rooms were clean.
Review 39:Showers in both rooms were faulty. In our room there was poo all around the toilet brush. Breakfast was limited and finished too early. Was also given a faulty remote control.
Review 40:Arrived to collect key from reception on first night was met at car park by a very rude member of staff. As a result of his very poor customer service skills and argumentative approach we shortened our stay at this hotel. Also the room had an unpleasant odour on in a poor state of repair. The photos of this hotels rooms were misleading.
Review 41:The only thing was the helpful staff members (Irfan) who tried to make amends for his colleagues (Raul Modi) very rude and insulting behaviour.
Review 42:There were some very squeaky pipes that made noises throughout most of the night.
Review 43:Very friendly and helpful staff. Good sized rooms and ensuite shower rooms. Nice cooked breakfast.
Review 44:The rooms were hot, no fans or air conditioning, the bathrooms were miniature, ameneties were horrible. Too expensive for what was offered.
Review 45:Breakfast and staff were excellent.
Review 46:Lack of bath mats - high risks of skidding on wet bathroom Small dinning area; too hot for summer Noisy taps in the night Squeeky floors
Review 47:Good value for money Parking
Review 48:Some minor maintenance is needed. Shower doesn't completely shut off wasting water, subsequently shower hose has to be left in the shower foot tray to avoid dripping noises. No plug for the sink in the en-suite. Hand towel is never provided only bath towel. Room 15. Just minor points in the scheme of things but little things matter if you have to live away from home for a week as I did. But, would still happily stay again if the need arises.
Review 49:I liked the fact, that just one female member of staff at least was very friendly, welcoming and happy to chat with guests. Others found it hard to pull even a smile. Well done to her, unfortunately don't know her name. Hotel was clean, room spacious and comfortable which was all I really needed. Liked and main reason for booking this hotel is just 10 mins walk to Ilford train station and Ilford high street almost on your doorstep. One last thing shower pressure really good and liked free car parking for guests. Breakfasts looked really good, but couldn't have as I had to leave much earlier than when breakfasts start.
Review 50:It was very hot when we arrived and the windows opened in a way where hardly any air entered the room. They were broken and were being kept open by the curtain netting. The room wasn't extremely clean but it wasn't horrific.
Review 51:The breakfast was really good, although I think hash browns should be added (because I love them)
Review 52:Couldn't open the door , it was so hot in the room
Review 53:Place was double booked so they put us in a luxury room with s massive bathroom and bed. And the receptionist at the banks hotel was lovely .
Review 54:Room allocation for myself travelling with two small children was inappropriate.... In annex up stairs with no lift. Also room was in a poor state and needed repair, with a hole in the roof and a window that didn't close properly coupled with the mother of all thunderstorms happening the night we stayed!!!! Not a good night at all. Fair play to the management though for sorting the issue out.
Review 55:The breakfast & pleasant staff
Review 56:we were given the box room in the attic /loft it was so small. My head was just above the sloping roof and i could not breadth. At 9 am in the morning , i had to call my friend to collects as i was suffocating. The TV never worked . Will not be returning .
Review 57:nothing
Review 58:all of it. the room and getting up to the room, we didn't have breakfast there, ( Saturday we have a cut of tea the milk was off ) so we what to town
Review 59:there was no think we like about it
Review 60:The room was disgusting blood on the pillow cobwebs and a boiler in the room, TV did not work no plug in the bath and shower faulty, it's horrendous
Review 61:Free wifi
Review 62:Staff were rude, especially the guy working at night, the hotel have noissue in going into room and going through your bags without permission. Was lied to by staff. Buildings and rooms were dirty.
Review 63:Not a lot
Review 64:One lady staff member at reception told that we were not entitled for breakfast complimentary but in the bill it was mentioned finally for bed and breakfast included in the package. My 3yr kid had to stay on empty stomach as there is no other options outside at that time.
Review 65:Everything was bad the room was stinking and the toilet was horrible the shower was broken and the receptionist was even worse not cooperating and very rude.It was completely not as advertised,it is so annoying and I would appreciate if booking.com will take this issue seriously with the hotel management as I don't want anyone else to pay £65/- and experience such a nightmare.
Review 66:Nothing,not worth to pay £65/-
Review 67:The hotel was super good value for money with free car parking, and breakfast included. Also staff were extremely helpful, booking us taxis and giving us any info we needed. Breakfast was delicious!
Review 68:ants nest in bathroom was not happy with the man on reception when we arrived who tried to tell us we could not check in early and if we did we would have to pay a £10 charge. Stated that we have made this a special request when we booked and no one had mentioned a charge
Review 69:breakfast most of the staff
Review 70:The room was not very clean the was ants crawling around the table and quite a lot in the bathroom marks on the walls marks on the pillows but they were turn over so couldn't see them. We also didn't really get a good nights sleep bed was uncomfortable
Review 71:Insects in the room, ants; smell in shower room coming from ventilation; broken furniture; no reading lights (in spite of the 2 star hotel requirements!) the light was very poor and bulbs missing.
Review 72:I request them for a good room but I got a bed with yellow big mark on it. And toilet sit is broken . Last but not least dust all over the place . Need fixing the bathroom which cause flood during shower.
Review 73:I like the 24 hours reception service .
Review 74:all of it, the staff are rude and don't care, the facilities are the worst I've ever seen, the place is infested with rats, mice and mosquitos
Review 75:nothing, absolute;ly hoffific with terrible customer focus
Review 76:There were pest control everywhere which also put me off massively, making me feel uncomfortable. I was moved into a seperate part of the 'hotel' which turned out to be an apartment which they rent out, it was terrible.
Review 77:The bed was comfy, despite the stains on them which were very off putting...
Review 78:i walked in and was asked to show some ID so i did then whilst my card was being billed i heard the printer going and i found out without asking they were copying my drivers licence. I said you should have asked they said its hotel policy but it was not said or shown to anyone. The Beds were uncomfortable and you couldn't swing a cat in the room then there was the shower which overflowed when used and the lock on the door fell off. The doors on the wardrobe were almost off and it was lop sided
Review 79:looked great from outside, the rooms looked ok location was good for us as we were not far from the town centre for a bite to eat on an evening.
Review 80:It was the worst hotel I have been to. The customer service was appalling, the creaminess of the room was disgusting a used condom wrapper was left on floor, no complementarys
Review 81:The area
Review 82:had to leave for work and still half the breakfast stuff wasnt out half an hour after starting. bedroom furniture falling apart.
Review 83:price, very friendly reception staff
Review 84:Everything else including room which was small and very basic including a very smelly toilet. Breakfast was terrible. Overpriced.
Review 85:Very Friendly Staff and parking facilities.
Review 86:It's not what I didn't like it's what I thought was missing or something you can add, your breakfast only caters for people who eats pork what about the rest of us who doesn't?
Review 87:Friendly staff and cleanliness of the hotel.
Review 88:Everything was horrible shower was ridiculous the water was either boiling hot or freezing. There was mice in my room!!!!! Also asked for a big room as my partner hAs a back injury but nothing. What a waste of 45 pounds.
Review 89:The kettle lead would not reach the socket and there were two large jars of pickles left in the wardrobe.
Review 90:Location was very convenient and the price which included a full English breakfast. The Wi-Fi wasn't at all bad either and the parking was good.
Review 91:I booked for room but I was very dissappionted when I went to upstairs and that was loft I was bit upset why they gave us loft kind of half room I was not feeling confortable and got insulted coz my partner was asking me how u can booked this kind of hotel well I m not gonna return in future simple loosing customer
Review 92:Silent and good place
Review 93:no shampoo or shower gel no haidryer facilities. the cleaner walked into our room while we were in bed !! no communications . would not use again.
Review 94:bed was comfortable
Review 95:Bath rooms are not clean. Also dont have a electric power point nearby bed so that laptop/mobile can be connected while working
Review 96:Value for money and situated at a very good location
Review 97:Some of the rooms are quite small for a double, also some of the rooms shower facilities go hot to cold! No happy medium. But i have let the staff know
Review 98:The value for money most nights, the breakfast included in the price and the staff
Review 99:mice in room, not the best thing to see running across the floor
Review 100:Location was good for the train station, close to main high street for pubs & eating places.
Review 101:Heating off in morning and night Had to wait two hours for heating to come on Room 13 window was broken so you can feel a draft Hot water tap on wrong way round No lights in morning when I woke up had to get dressed in the dark Receptionist had to keep ringing the maintenance guy I'm not a happy chappy
Review 102:There was nothing we did not like for the cost of our stay.
Review 103:Value for money. Location. Staff were friendly and very helpful I would stay there again.
Review 104:the room was cramped and. It good value for money. The radiator was on full so the room was very warm. The sheets had blood on them. The bathroom smelt like dirty drains and there was mould by the toilet. Overall not a very pleasant stay.
Review 105:Too much noise went to complain about about the Noise nothing was done so for the service was very bad could've done something about it. I wouldn't be going there again
Review 106:very old and basic facilities. Radiator did not work. It was 0 degrees outside with n heater in the room. I had to sleep with my jacket on.
Review 107:location is ok 10 min walk from station
Review 108:Decor / furnishings were a bit old.
Review 109:Stay was good. Excellent location with everything nearby. They allowed me to vacate one day earlier without charging me which I appreciate.
Review 110:Too noisy No hairdryer or mirror Doors and windows didn't fit - added to noise and draughts Kettle lead too short for plug Drawers were broken so couldn't close them The MOUSE in our first room which nearly sent my daughters into orbit! SHower temperature was temperamental - scalding hot one moment then freezing the next - this meant I was anxious when my young children were using it... Beds not very comfy Felt like a backpackers' hotel - very few home comforts!
Review 111:Polite and hard-working staff Off-road parking Front desk operated 24 hours a day Towels changed daily Beds made daily They changed our room when we complained about the mouse! Breakfast was OK - but not enough tables for people. Reasonably priced and it was the only one which had room at short notice for a family of 5 ( hence the reason we had to stay after the animal incident!!!)
Review 112:My brother is not eating everything and very selective and he wished there was Nutella :) The meat is not halal. But you were made aware of that during check in. That's not a big issue in Ilford as sorounding shops are all halal so it's easy available.
Review 113:I booked this hotel for my brothers and his friends and I went there in advance and wanted to see the hotel.Paul the receptionist was extraordinary friendly and very helpful and caring! I didn't want my brothers card to be charged during check in so I was also able to pay in advance thanks to the advice by Paul. based on the comments of my brother he was very surprised that we found a room in good condition and clean for that price.its a basic room with coffee making facility but more than enough for a few days stay. And I also saw other guests borrowing iron and hai dryer from the reception as this is not provided in the room. Checking out happened also without any trouble , lana was also friendly. Thanks for your help guys and I would recommend the hotel.
Review 114:Bed Sheets and covers heavily stained. Towels heavily stained. No hair dryer unlike many other Hotels. Lack of cleaning materials like soap.
Review 115:Fast check out
Review 116:I paid for a double room but was put in the attic, which had a very low slanted roof and the plumbing work was terrible. The toilet would continue flushing until I had to come back and try and stop by pushing the button several times, and the shower basin waste did not drain out fast enough and I had to shower standing in the dirty water while the shower basin overflowed with the dirty water.
Review 117:Breakfast was good.
Review 118:The perceived racial discrimination by the kitchen staff The outright unhospitable attitude by the front desk staff The poor hygiene condition displayed in the dining area with the milk and juice dispensers The fact that the hotel could not provide intercoms in the rooms to speak with staff in the reception Drinking water was a luxury
Review 119:It's location and proximity to the bus and train stations as well as the town center
Review 120:Room dreadful, maybe be cheap but no excuse for filthy curtains, broken toilet, bed and stained bedsheets. This is cheap do not mistake it for a travelodge etc, they have never asked me for a £10 key deposit.
Review 121:How staying here made me appreciate budget multinational hotel groups. How I saved myself 1500 calories by turning away from 'breakfast'
Review 122:We stayed 3 night there and room was very cold, we informed the reception staff but nothing happens. After 9 o'clock in the morning, there was no warm water. The hotel staff were very rude and unfriendly.....
Review 123:internet is unusable. Very slow and constantly disconnecting. Toilet fans are so noisy. Impossible to sleep if your next door neighbour forgot to switch off the light. It will run for about 30 after the light was switched off. Horrible! Walls are so thin that they talk...
Review 124:staff was nice. location is good. Bed
Review 125:Toilets needed an updates Cleaners will come disturb u every morning u hear them make noise outside your room like 7 to 8 in in morning. Tv was nt working apart from bbc 2
Review 126:It was ok just to lay your head for the night. Free breakfast
Review 127:The room was really noisy and the bathroom door was broken and didn't open easily when I closed it. I reported this problem, but anything was done. The breakfast was really poor. No choice to whom eats a heathy and vegetarian diet. Staff was not so friendly as well.
Review 128:The hotel and room was very organized and clean.
Review 129:The room we stayed in was at the top of the building with a sharp sloped roof that I bashed my head on three times during the stay. I asked to be moved but this was not possible, We were staying there as we were going to a 50th birthday party. having arrived back n the early hours it was most disappointing that breakfast only went until 0900 on a Sunday! The staff were unhelpful and abrupt i would not stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone!
Review 130:Nothing!.
Review 131:Nothing to dislike...
Review 132:Great location, only minutes from the centre of Ilford, Staff were very courteous and friendly, the breakfast was excellent. Highly recommended
Review 133:The smell of the room The furniture was so old The fact that in the pictures the bathroom is so big and nice but when you go there the room is so small even the bedroom you can't really move around
Review 134:Very poor customer service and facilities are even worst..very small room..my hot water shower was not working and when I was complaining about the delay of 40minutes in fixing from the receptionist, the cleaner jumped into the conversation which she was not suppose to. I felt very uncomfortable and disappointed. And also when I asked about Manager contact details the receptionist lied and pretended as she is the Manager. Not recommended at all.
Review 135:Water in shower goes cold for a while. Shower drainage was poor the water wouldnt drain it seemed as though if i did not stop the shower it would flood. Broken springs in mattress. Mould on windows nets of windows looked like never been washed. overall furniture and carpets were too old.
Review 136:Breakfast was ok. Staff was lovely. Rooms were spacious. 24 hour open to guests
