Reviews for Asterion Hotel
Review 1:I loved the private swimming on the rooftop of our suite, it was a luxury treat. If we will get back to Crete we will definitely pick the same room again. We had dinner and break fast, food was of good quality and we felt spoiled for choice. I saw many other reviews complaining for the location, too far away from the centre, it' not true, we had a car because quite frankly who goes to Greece without renting a transport should plan their holiday better. There is plenty to see in Crete and the Asterion was the pringboard of all our excursions. Highly recommended.
Review 2:Lack of light for reading in bed and poor light in bath room. no Bacardi when first requested but available on another day. Food was dreadful and certainly not 4*. eg POACHED SALMON was salty and floating in OIL Why? No variety at breakfast and no nice fresh fruit. Tinned fruit served every day was the same. Cereals were tasteless.
Review 3:See above. Excellent coffees.
Review 4:The mattress was a little hard for me but not my husband so this might just be a matter of habit. Prepared coffees and freshly squeezed orange juice at breakfast was wonderful but there was a bit of a wait.
Review 5:We enjoyed our stay at that Asterion. Friendly staff, Nice, quiet hotel yet 5 minutes car ride to Platanias. We were given a family suite with a pool which was a wonderful surprise. The à la carte restaurant served quality meals and the pool bar made some tasty cocktails. Our teens were able to play pool and air hockey, and had an ok wifi connection...more was not necessary. We thought the location was perfect for visiting western Crete; beaches and towns. The guests are a nice mixture of all nationalities and no big tour groups. Everything happens at the guests' pace and efforts were always made to make us comfortable and meet our needs.
Review 6:They asked to charge from the beginning. The room, although with sea view, far away from the sea. The beach equipment not in order and dirty.Generally expensive for what offers
Review 7:The showers are really hard to use, needs maintencance. The hotel's food is not tasty at all, and we have to get out to the city to have our meals
Review 8:The staff are friendly andhelpfull even they are overwhelmed with work due to the limited number of them.
Review 9:Very nice hotel. Great location in the city and close to the old town. Friendly staff especially receptionist Mr. Giannis Livadiotakis willing to help, clean and modern. The rooms were spacious clean. Definitely recommend it. It was quiet and ideal for couples.
Review 10:Location it is near by fields Desing - it is a long corridor like prison. WiFi very poor Staff on the reception are not polite It is not as it is advertised on the web page. Not value for the money Always missing things on the breakfast like plates, eggs, tomatos or yogurt etc Very slow reception facilities Tried to charge extras which is not used by us
Review 11:Very kind and polite person on restarurant
Review 12:The wi-fi is terrible! Frustrating at best. The room need a coffee/tea making facility as I do not always want to go to breakfast.
Review 13:The staff are very helpful and polite. Plenty of room around the hotel to have your own space.
Review 14:The signpost to the hotel was difficult to see and car park dreary when arriving at night
Review 15:Location, peacefulness, staff, cleanliness, nothing to dislike.
Review 16:The food on the buffet was always warm at best but mostly cold. Needs attention. Need better signage to reception we had no clue where to go
Review 17:The view was great, right on the beach, the restaurant was very good and the bartenders made a mean mojito ;-)
Review 18:Couldn't fault the hotel for anything, however nearest shops and restaurants are a 20 minute walk away.
Review 19:Staff really helpful, friendly and knowledgable. Luxury hotel, accommodation spotless and surrounding grounds beautiful. All 3 restaurants had a great selection of traditional Greek and international cuisine, delicious and reasonably priced.
Review 20:Only the main (buffet) restaurant was open for the duration of our stay which was annoying given that it was advertised as having 3 restaurants on it's website. Seems it was not finished or was just completing refurbishment before high season starts. Annoying given that the hotel is in the middle of nowhere with nothing else within walking distance. The gym was locked on several occasions or the lights not working. (And it's in a very dingy basement with no windows) Beds not very comfortable. And there was little or no hot water. They also charge an outrageous 2 euro per day for the privilege of obtaining a key to the safe deposit box in the room. There was a fridge/mini bar but it was never restocked during our stay (we bought our own water & beers elsewhere as a result). There is a convenience store on site but it was unfinished and therefore closed during our stay. I guess the price we paid of under £500 for the week reflected all this and it was very good value at that rate but I think it's unfair to mislead people with what facilities are actually available. I would have rather paid more and had all the facilities.
Review 21:Spacious tasteful & clean room with nice bathroom and large balcony. Comfortable loungers, nice pool. Nice pool bar menu and good service
Review 22:Small area of pool. The water in the shower unpredictable. One minute it is normal, next minute very hot. Should be careful.
Review 23:Staff was very kind and helpful. Good cocktails in the bar. Spacious rooms. Very quiet place. The hotel is far away from bigger towns. You will need to take a taxi (6-10 EUR), bus or rent a car.
Review 24:-in the room were many objects with minor damage. - toiletries were not replenished every day - it felt more like a 3 star hotel instead of a 5 star hotel.
Review 25:+ very large room + nice swimming pool and restaurant location + two days/mornings we had fresh orange juice + very quiet neighbourhood + garden
Review 26:My 22 year old daughter and I spent 5 days at the Asterion Hotel. It was a wonderful break because not only was the location fantastic (it was 25 mins from the airport) but it was on the sea and with easy access to the busy port of Chania. The service was second to none, the staff were always there to help without being too effusive. The restaurant was extremely good quality and the pool and other facilities perfect. We shall definitely return with the rest of the family.
Review 27:Exceptional 42 degrees! Not the fault of the hotel though!!
Review 28:Fab location on a beautiful peaceful beach, lovely pool bar staff, brilliant and much needed air con, and a lovely thoughtful parting gift from the owner! Top notch experience.. Not to mention fabulous choice of breakfast every day
Review 29:Being charged daily rate for safe key and beverage facilities would much prefer this to be included in overall price
Review 30:Lovely appointed room one of a few with sea view it was light, airy and well equipped and spotlessly clean. Fantastic position with clean and well kept sandy beach. Staff were helpful and friendly especially welcoming was the hotel owner/manager who walked the patch Breakfast was excellent great variety for all tastes Fish night was very good and a great start to the holiday Lovely gardens and large swimming pool. Quiet and tranquil and ideal hotel for R&R. Located near to several excellent local tavernas
Review 31:we spent 6 days at the hotel and loved every minute! the hotel is located on a beautiful beach, a bit away from the crowds but close enough to turism centers like platanias where you can find restaurants shops et c. we were upgraded to a suite with private pool. the suite was very specious and comfortable, with a lovely varanda outside. we were greeted with fruits and wine and had another wine at our aniversary. the stuff were all very warm and nice and the owner gave us the warmest feeling. it really has all the comforts of a 5 stars hotel but with the intimacy and warmth of a familly pension. the pool and the beach were wonderfull and the beautifull city of chania is a short drive from there. we hope to come back there in ther near future and highly recomend this hotel
Review 32:Enjoyed stay, staff were very friendly and helpful. Lots of choice from breakfast buffet, food very good. Location quiet, don't have to worry about beach or pool spaces, not for party people. If you like to walk, local towns are about 20 minutes away or 5/10 minutes bus ride which is very cheap.
Review 33:The staff could be a bit more experienced for a 5 stars hotel, but they are all very kind though
Review 34:The hotel is very quiet and perfect for relaxing. The swimming pool and beach Large and tidy room
Review 35:The resturant of the hotel (Koralia) is not very good, the meat was not very fresh and was not a good quality, the prices are quite high and the service not so good.
Review 36:Really nice and helpfull stuff. Bianca was great and helped us a lot with anything! From changing to a better room to reccomend us on places to go. Every advice was amazing. The hotel is small, quite and beautiful, the beach is just nearby and really nice. The breakfest was good.
Review 37:It was very nice but a bit of a walk to get to other restaurants or activities.
Review 38:Located on a very nice beach. Lovely large pool, pool-side bar, very large breakfast, comfortable beds.
Review 39:Lack of anything in the kitchen, except glasses
Review 40:Friendly staff, breakfast, free upgrade of a room due to low season
Review 41:Food was Luke warm, a le carte was very oily
Review 42:Very clean and very friendly staff. Beautiful hotel
Review 43:Staff were not welcoming
Review 44:Very hard bed, like a stone.
Review 45:Buffet service
Review 46:No hot water after 7ocklock afternoon not happy for five star hotel.
Review 47:Location , new, clean.
Review 48:It was very difficult to find your location. Even the main entrance to the hotel .We arrived late at night.
Review 49:fantastic vacation, nice room and good temperature even late in the season.
Review 50:breakfast of extremely low quality; would be better to have less stuff but of higher quality
Review 51:staff very friendly and helpful
Review 52:€2 per day to use the safe in the room
Review 53:Nice and helpful staff proximity to the sea cleanliness of the room not busy swimming pool
Review 54:Food quality
Review 55:Everything
Review 56:The location is good, right in front of the beach and close to chania. The staff is very helpful and the rooms are beautiful.
Review 57:The gym is rather poor, don't rely on it. Breakfast selection- OK, but nothing too special.
Review 58:The staff, and most importantly, Bianca from the reception, were just outstanding. We have booked a regular double room the first night, and were upgraded to a lovely sea front room the first night. Then, as we wanted to extend our stay and that room was already reserved, she made an effort and offered us a suite with a pool at a greatly discounted rate, which made us stay 2 nights more than we initially planned to! also, it was very quite, very close to a lovely, though not sandy, beach, and a short driving distance from the vibrant town of Platanis. We greatly enjoyed our stay and would love to return there on our next visit to Crete!
Review 59:people encouraging stray cats by the pool pebbly beach
Review 60:Beautiful swimming pool Luxury accommodation pool side bar tasteful decor well cared for flowers inside and out friendly staff good food
Review 61:They charge for the umbrella and the chairs on the beach even if you are a costumer of the hotel, no free esspreso machine in breakfast, the sun umbrellas are not giving you full shade
Review 62:We stayed at the superior premium suite, the room was very nice and comfortable and the private pool is not big but really nice, we had a very good time there, the stuff were the best helped us with everything, the beach is beutiful , it is pretty secluded and we liked it, it was a full R&R which was execly what we wanted, the food was ok, but the fish they make is amazing!
Review 63:Food poor, it for 3 stars only. They must tidy up the territory around, it looks poor. Bathroom - very small, pool in the room - half water contrary to the written;Small pool outside.
Review 64:Staff, good wifi, near to visit Hania, Balos, Falassarna and etc.
Review 65:I ended up staying at The Asterion by accident- I was attending a conference in Crete but the conference hotel made an error with my booking. This was the closest hotel I could find to the conference hotel. It ended up being the best error ever! The Asterion is located right on the beach a bit further away from central Plantanias so is quieter which makes it a lovely and relaxing area to stay (such a pity I wasn't on holiday to really enjoy this wonderful place!). What really sets this hotel apart are the staff- they are simply wonderful and so genuinely helpful and lovely. I had my birthday there and being a solo traveler they really made a fuss of me (definitely check out the Greek dancing when you're there!). The room was also gorgeous, with my own roof-terrace pool- sublime! I hope to return there again very soon!
Review 66:- location (totally remote), not in Platanias at all - pebbly beach, not nice, there are many much better sandy beaches in Platanias - hotel charge for almost every 'extras' (sunbeds on hotel beach, deposit box, in-room coffee maker, orange juice for breakfast
Review 67:- quite place - no loud music and no animation activities - clean
Review 68:Pool is a tad too small. Not enough shade around the pool. Initially asked for extra $ for a kettle in the room. later gave us one for free.
Review 69:Nice BIG room with great views Very clean! Hotel not so big so you never get a crowded feeling. wealthy breakfast. Very nice staff friendly and good service.
Review 70:No place for the shower head - you have to hold it when showering Breakfast is not 5 stars quality - not so many options and not even a fresh squeezed juice was available There is no need for the kitchen in the room - no glasses, cups, pots or dishes were available in the room
Review 71:Spacious room Location
Review 72:Nice and tranquil environment, nice view of the sea in the superior double room. There is a service personnel, whose name was Ivan, that is extremely helpful and friendly. Professional service, and the hotel owner was lovely, too.
Review 73:Nothing.
Review 74:Beautifully decorated. Excellent tranquil beachside location. Helpful staff. Good breakfast. Good wifi. Just few minutes away from platanias by car or bike. 30 mins to Chania airport by cab.
Review 75:Maybe slightly disorganised at the restaurant area as they would ask us multiple times in the same sitting how we would pay for our food and beverage
Review 76:Beautiful grounds, clean spacious room and balcony, staff were very welcoming . Excellent value for money, would definitely stay here again.
Review 77:Location is extremely isolated but not in a good comforting way. Area is creepy and
