Reviews for The Rest

Review 1:The Rest is in an excellent location, both for shopping and nightlife. Tastefully decorated rooms, although not all rooms have a proper window so can feel a little claustrophobic. An excellent breakfast. On the expensive side. Overall, however, a lovely stay.

Review 2:Nothing.

Review 3:I received two telephone calls prior to our stay, one to see if we needed directions and the second to enquire how we wanted our beds configured, which was a very nice touch. We received a very warm welcome and were extremely impressed by the decor. It was once of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at and I would definitely stay there again. Lovely breakfast and great service all round. Fantastic location too.

Review 4:Being able to choose the heating was a good feature also the bathroom and colour schema was pretty. I also liked the complimentary coffee, tea and water. The fact that there was a safe was good however did not need to use this.

Review 5:The rooms were gorgeous, really comfortable! Staff were friendly and helpful and the cafe and bar were lovely! The hotel itself is in a great position on the hill

Review 6:The only thing which could be an issue, was that our room was at the top of an open outside staircase which is not so good for getting to breakfast if it is raining or snowing.

Review 7:The location was excellent; near the top of Steep Hill in the old town just below the cathedral. The rooms were beautifully decorated and breakfast was cooked to order.

Review 8:Nothing

Review 9:Lovely people very kind and helpful beautiful apartment great restaurant and location everything surpassed expectations. We'll certainly go back.

Review 10:The lack of onsite parking in the historic area is the only slight negative in staying at The Rest.

Review 11:Our stay was faultless. Greeted as we arrived and given a map to show where to park. The Garden Suite room was beautifully decorated and very clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is delicious and freshly prepared to order. We'll definitely stay here next time we visit Lincoln.

Review 12:Comfortable beds. Good quality bed and bathroom linen. Beautiful decorated room. Modern bathroom with powerful shower. Excellent breakfast with extra coffee and newspapers. Smiley, helpful staff. Super location right in the heart of the old town, near to interesting places to eat out and drink.

Review 13:Great location close to the castle, cathedral and the shops and atmosphere of the city. Friendly and helpful staff and a comfortable bed. Quiet at night.

Review 14:Only downside is parking we managed to get in the nearest car park but still a uphill walk to the hotel I may need to pack in smoking

Review 15:Good overall visit great location for castle and cathedral good service friendly staff only had to ask and they would oblige and help no question would use again

Review 16:I struggled to find it with all the one way and restricted zones. We had a lot of baggage and the stairs were a bit much but for an overnighter with a small case no issues.

Review 17:The room was lovely, the breakfast was the best we had in a 3 week journey around the uk, superb.

Review 18:Not a major issue but at the price we paid we would have expected better quality breakfast ingredient, a wider choice and more than just grapes in the fresh fruit selection. This would not stop us staying again

Review 19:Service, location, room comfort, cleanliness and room style were great.

Review 20:This was perfectly located for the purpose of my visit, and the staff were pleasant and helpful and cared that I enjoyed my stay. Breakfast was lovely, and the room, as elsewhere in the Hotel was spotlessly clean.

Review 21:The only downside is no on-site parking so you have to park some distance away, although it was only a few minutes walk. On balance it's worth it.

Review 22:Situated in the best part of Lincoln, right in the middle. Very friendly and helpful staff, and lovely décor.

Review 23:The restaurant\cafe is closed on weekdays in winter. Reception closes after 20.00 h. When travelling with children this is less than ideal.

Review 24:The Garden Suite was charming and perfect for a family of 4 (2 small children). Location is hard to beat and staff extremely welcoming and kind. Lovely breakfast room for express made breakfast. Parking 100 m away not a problem for me.

Review 25:Finding a parking space.

Review 26:Location ideal for cathedral quarter but Lincoln has very , very steep hills and this hotel is located on Steep hill. Not really a good choice if you have any mobility, knee issues.

Review 27:Because of rain unable to open roof window - only one other small window - fresh air circulation limited - you need the fan. When booking ask for the car park address/post code.

Review 28:Friendly helpful staff. Bedroom/bathroom recently decorated/furnished.Freshly cooked breakfast.

Review 29:Such a great location in lincoln. The rooms feel less like your conventional hotel rooms and are more personable (if that makes sense). They are clean, cosy and very well kept. The staff were great as well with one staff member staying behind after final check in time to check us in because we couldn't get in any earlier. If you have a little extra cash to spare then definitely choose this place to stay !

Review 30:Staying in the beautiful Garden Suite, a mirror in the top floor bedroom would have been useful.

Review 31:Excellent location, shops, tourist attractions and variety of eating establishments within walking distance. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 32:There wasn't anything I didn't like!

Review 33:The facillities were excellent, very clean and fresh. All of the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make us feel at home and welcome, I would certainly reccomend 'The Rest' to all my family and friends.

Review 34:Couldn't fault it. The rooms aren't the largest but they are so gorgeous and have everything you need.

Review 35:Just my kind of place. Modern, beautiful, convenient, user friendly, welcoming.

Review 36:Poor sound insulation from room above.Only one bedside table so glass of water etc on one side had to be placed on the floor. The description of the Garden Room having a four poster bed was a bit of a stretch, just four posts, two appearing to disappear through the ceiling.

Review 37:Very clean, excellent bathroom.Cheerful staff.Good breakfast freshly prepared. A very pleasant private seated area outside, lovely on a sunny day.

Review 38:The whole ambience was super. Obviously there is no parking by the premises but we were issued with a pass so that we could use the local car parks which was Really helpful.

Review 39:We were in room 7 which got far too hot at night, when mentioned the manager said she would get a fan for the room, should solve the problem.

Review 40:We were with friends, it was good we had connecting rooms. Staff we very helpful & friendly nothing was too much trouble

Review 41:We loved EVERYTHING !!!!!

Review 42:The staff were all smiley and nothing was too much trouble. The location was the best in Lincoln and the room was superb. Breakfast was truly the best, fresh cooked breakfast that we've ever had. Absolute perfection sums up The Rest x

Review 43:Two small things. The only opening windows were two skylights which meant the room got very hot at night (Aug). Air con would have been great. Also the chairs in the dining room all wobbled about. They felt very unsafe!!

Review 44:Excellent hotel in a great location for the castle/cathedral. Room very nice, clean, great shower and big fluffy towels! Breakfast excellent and the staff all very friendly

Review 45:Would be great if the coffee shop area would stay open a bit later than 5pm as its not always practical to keep hill climbing. Saying that, it is called the rest and we certainly had that here. Would highly recommend.

Review 46:Beautiful hotel, exceptionally clean. Staff were really friendly and always helpful. Despite being in town it was lovely and quiet as the rooms are behind the coffee shop/restaurant. Breakfast was yummy.

Review 47:Velux window definitely needs darker blacking out !! Not given the room i thought i had booked (the room certainly didn't match the one indicated on the booking website or the hotels website and was the same as details/image for less ££ room) and staff argued it was on questioning. Small window and no view from room we were given (but not from one booked)

Review 48:Excellent location very close to castle, cathedral Quiet and peacefull

Review 49:Breakfast was average and we had to ask for cutlery and cockery. There was also a Tv on throughout breakfast which is ok in a cheep motel but not a nice 'get away' hotel. The reccomendations for evening meal were also in line with a motel rather than the rooms which were lovely although smaller than expected

Review 50:the room was spotless and very chic. Really comfy and the bathroom was great.

Review 51:little warm in the room, but they did apologise and do provide a fan. Didn't need the fan though the roof vent did the trick!

Review 52:Really lovely place great location, cooked breakfast fab, staff lovely.

Review 53:Not exactly suitable for old people, they don't call it 'Steep Hill' for nothing!

Review 54:Great location for the old part of town, modern , clean and comfortable with friendly staff.

Review 55:everything was excellent - aprt from the poor selection of marmalade at breakfast. We thought that thequaity of the hotle was badly let down by pre-package Golden Shred- should try harder - there were plenty of local shops selling good marmalades !!

Review 56:ll was great

Review 57:The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was wonderful. Even though it was a city location the night was peaceful. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel to my friends

Review 58:Terrible location ! No parking - use city parking which is quite close . However the staff absolutely no use when giving directions on how to return after parking . They really should have a simple handout

Review 59:Great location ! Just 100 yards from Cathedral area

Review 60:The hotel was on a steep hill and may cause a problem for the elderly, how ever this is fine by us as we felt that it was well worth the money and assisted us on not feeling too bad about indulging with meals during our Lincoln stay.

Review 61:Friendly Staff, the breakfast was excellent. Very modern and clean.

Review 62:A better on-line map to get to the parking spots shown. A convoluted one way system with road works didn't help. Also in our bedroom as a wt shave the basin was against one wall & the mirror on another. The lighting was unhelpful. Finally no long mirror for the ladies.

Review 63:Most everything other than 2 small issues with the room, Staff young very helpful cheery just the right thing at breakfast

Review 64:We liked everything about it. The location was fabulous right on Steep Hill. Parking was available down the hill for a very small charge of £5 per day. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Breakfast was great. Room was very clean and comfortable. Good shower too.

Review 65:Need blackout blind on velux window in bedroom. Early wake up because of daylight streaming in above bed. Had to wait 40 mins for breakfast, with no explanation why.

Review 66:Central location. Comfortable rooms.

Review 67:There was nothing I can find fault with.

Review 68:Modern decor, very clean. Comfortable bed and pillows. Good location and friendly staff. Good food and great tea and coffee. The hotel was well situated and very quiet. A good nights sleep.

Review 69:We had a wonderful stay at the rest and couldn't believe how central it was. Parking is an issue and we were led to believe the parking was inclusive of the price. It was not, and also is up a very steep hill, not ideal for lots of luggage. We were told of this additional charge on our last day the manager wasn't there and I felt the younger staff didn't care. Burn breakfast and an alarm that went off for at least an hour and a half.

Review 70:The room decor was beautiful with amazing comfy beds.

Review 71:There is nothing bad about this hotel!

Review 72:Beautiful decor & furniture. Comfy beds! Spacious rooms. Fantastic breakfast - the best we've had in any hotel!

Review 73:Nearest parking is short walk away at bottom of steep street. It is tricky for the elderly to walk back up the hill.

Review 74:Location: and helpful staff

Review 75:We chose The Rest because we wanted to be in a central location close to the cathedral, a requirement it met admirably. We knew before we came that it is on a steep cobbled hill and the nearest car parking is some distance away (we used Westgate, a few hundred yards away). If you want ready access to your car, it may not be the ideal place for you. That said, the staff provide discounted parking vouchers at £5 per day and given the location, you don't need the car!

Review 76:Our overall experience was excellent as were the staff, who were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The building was renovated and converted to its present use comparatively recently and the room (garden room) was very well appointed, spotlessly clean and with the best sliding sash windows I've ever encountered! The room was also very well equipped, with an ironing board/iron, safe, fridge and hairdryer. The cooked breakfast was also excellent with plenty of other choices. As an all-round bed & breakfast destination it would be hard to beat.

Review 77:Only recommendation would be to have a sheet as well as a duvet as room was rather warm even with heating off. Or a summer duvet which would meet those needs who like a cooler nights rest.

Review 78:Loved the decor of the room and liked how the twin room had a bath and shower. Staff very helpful with lots of information and able to meet individual needs. Bed very comfortable, good room beverages plus option of fresh milk if preferred. Fridge in room for a bottle of wine.

Review 79:Only criticism is that breakfast took about 45 minutes to arrive after ordering. Faultless apart from that.

Review 80:Fabulous location, lovely accommodation, helpful staff.

Review 81:Beautiful room, perfect location and lovely environment. Perfect for a girly night away in the twin rooms or very romantic stay upstairs with the views - amazing, would go again for sure !!!

Review 82:Only prob toothbrush did not fit into electric razor plug - it kept jumping out!!

Review 83:Uniqueness of the building and the quiteness and everyone making us feel special. thank you all.

Review 84:Veggie breakfast could be more 'veggie' e.g. a veggie sausage? But this is a very minor point on what was a smashing few days away. Thanks

Review 85:Clean & comfortable rooms.

Review 86:Breakfast let it down a bit. Some fresh fruit & oat based cereal would have upped the score!

Review 87:Fantastic location in old part of town but no parking (£5.00 voucher for 24 hours - car parks approx. 5 mins walk). Comfortable room with fridge & kettle & bottled water.

Review 88:Located on the VERY steep hill. Steps down to our room, and no rails by bath, so not for those with mobility difficulties.

Review 89:Attentive cheerful welcome from staff. Lovely garden room, very comfortable. Modern and stylish. Good breakfast next day. Would stay here again.

Review 90:No parking on site, but only a short walk away in public car park.

Review 91:Extremely Clean, nicely decorated rooms in and good location for shopping & site seeing. Given a complementary bottle of wine, as trip was part of my friends 50th celebrations, nice touch. Made very welcome.

Review 92:I can't think of anything

Review 93:Very comfortable room, private entrance, key fob secure gate to gain entrance to the rooms. Great shower and fabulous king size bed. Lovely coffee house for breakfast, staff were excellent, friendly and very helpful - nothing was too much trouble.

Review 94:Wouldn't suit someone who had difficulty walking up or down steep hills to access the hotel. The off site car park could be a problem for the infirm.

Review 95:Location, comfort, amenities, staff and breakfast were perfect for a very enjoyable stay.

Review 96:I booked this stay to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. On arrival, we loved the decor and overall location of the property! The breakfast provided was lovely (especially the coffee!) and the room and the rest bar was clean and newly renovated.

Review 97:Parking was not free for booking.com customers which was disappointing to find out after a 3-hour journey, and stingy. The twin beds, whilst being marvellously comfortable re mattress and duvet, were very narrow even for my skinny-ma-link niece.

Review 98:The room was really beautifully decorated and clean. Spa-like bathroom. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was leisurely and delicious, once again in lovely contemporary surroundings.

Review 99:For some the location might be a challenge although not for us.

Review 100:Excellent ,service ,nicest breakfast tasted for a while .Lots of little extra bits , bottled water opening roof window.

Review 101:The vegetarian breakfast could be improved. Compared to the non-veg breakfast that had bacon and sausage to it, the veg breakfast was frankly quite poor with added mushrooms to substitute the lack of meat. Maybe add grilled halloumi and veg sausage? But the quality of the breakfast was decent.

Review 102:The room was excellent - clean with moderate space to walk around with good Wifi signal. There was also a little fridge where we could also keep our evening snacks. The access storage room was a nice addition to the room as well. Location was very central - alot closer to the cathedral than town (10 mins walk downhill)

Review 103:There wasn't anything we didn't like but to improve the stay it would have been a plus to have had a choice of grapefruit and other fruit (melon, orange, prunes etc,) at breakfast.

Review 104:The room was nice and spacious. Good to have own entrance.

Review 105:Only shame was television didn't offer all the channels.

Review 106:The staff were friendly and couldn't do enough. The room was clean and very comfortable. Loved the idea of fresh milk from the coffee shop below

Review 107:The staff were really friendly and courteous, keen to ensure we got the most from our stay. The room was lovely, so clean and like staying in a boutique. The breakfast was also very good, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Review 108:Would have liked more of a range of options at breakfast. We had the superior room with the four poster bed -while perfectly acceptable as a room I'm not sure it was worth the addition cost.

Review 109:Comfortable room. Friendly staff

Review 110:There was no soap in the bathroom and the proprietor had gone home before I found out.

Review 111:Decor, friendliness. This is a well thought out place right in the centre of Lincoln. It takes some self-belief to drive up,to the front door but the welcome was good.

Review 112:A beautiful room with a wow factor. You could not ask for more, perfect room, staff, breakfast, facilities, price and location. We can't wait to come back. Highly recommended.

Review 113:No complaints to be found anywhere

Review 114:I have stopped at many places in Leeds and London and I would put this hotel up with the best it may only be a small hotel but the room was modern and spotless the food was lovely the location was good and the staff were the most helpful and friendly people you could wish to meet ! If you want to stay the night in Lincoln you will not get much better no matter how much you pay ! Well done 'The Rest'

Review 115:The staff - very welcoming and couldn't have been more helpful. The place - just perfect. Couldn't have been more convenient for our requirements. Very clean, comfortable and warm. To top it off the breakfast was outstanding.

Review 116:The heating was set at 18 degrees and it was 2 degrees outside. For the first day, we were unable to change the setting to a warmer temperature.

Review 117:It was very comfortable, clean, modern with very helpful and friendly staff.

Review 118:We loved ever part of our stay. The room was perfect for the romantic night away. The staff couldn't do enough for us. They went that extra mile. I would without a doubt use this hotel time and time again!

Review 119:Service was pleasant but just a bit sloppy - breakfast was cold & served on cold plates; that no newspapers were delivered on Mondays was a mystery to staff; no-one answered phone on arrival so nipped in to ask about car parking. Just a bit 'shruggy'. Little easy-to-fix things that stop this place being brilliant.

Review 120:Lovely rooms, well thought out & high quality.

Review 121:Everything about the boutique bed and breakfast. Felt really classy, felt homely, food excellent and the staff were very friendly. Would highly recommend "The Rest" for a pleasant break.

Review 122:Very comfy and well presented, oasis in the centre. great location, free parking, breakfast excellent in the coffee shop. all in all a very very good place.

Review 123:The only thing that would have improved our stay was if the bed had been firmer. However this is a matter of individual preference, and the bed was comfortable.

Review 124:The helpfulness and friendliness of the staff were outstanding. They managed to strike the right balance without being over-familiar. The location couldn't have been better and it was lovely to have a warm and friendly retreat after the hustle and bustle of the Christmas Market. The breakfasts were excellent with any requests catered for. Our room was lovely.

Review 125:People above us walking about

Review 126:Room was lovely, clean and tidy. Staff welcoming and very helpful. breakfast was exceptional - well recommended to anyone who likes full english

Review 127:Can't think of anything bad about the B&B, the only thing that was a surprise was how steep, Steep Hill (that the B&B is located half way up) is.

Review 128:The boutique style B&B was just lovely, a real relaxing treat. The food was great and the stay over all was good value for money.

Review 129:Management know how to run this small hotel. Staff excellent friendly young. No-one looking down the back of your neck or under anyone's nose which can the case with smaller hotels/b+b. Furnished to high luxurious standard. Bed comfortable and slept excellently-probably one of the nicest I've stayed in-would I stay again? absolutely! Atmosphere, charm had it all.

Review 130:Bar/cafe.closing at 9 pm and having very little stock of good lager.mini bars in room at a fair cost would help.

Review 131:Attention to detail in all fittings The style of the room and cleanliness.superb

The Fine Print

Steep Hill may cause difficulties for people with mobility problems. There are also steps to access most rooms. If you have any concerns with this, please contact the hotel.
