Reviews for Paddington House Hotel
Review 1:Bar area was not very cosy - not conducive to having more than one drink on a wet cold evening outside! Bed could have been a bit more comfortable.
Review 2:Room was quiet, location easy to find, staff accommodating. Good value to include breakfast.
Review 3:The hotel looked old and was untidy. The staff were friendly but we won't be staying a second time. The car park was badly lit and the hotel communal areas were a mixture of too hot or freezing cold. The room was reasonable but as we use a lot of hotels it wasn't the best.
Review 4:The price.
Review 5:Maybe a little understaffed, some parts of the room a little too dusty
Review 6:Paddington House has a really nice friendly feel, is very reasonably priced, staff are very friendly.
Review 7:There was nothing I did not like about the place
Review 8:The place was warm and comfortable, the staff was friendly, and the breakfast was very good . I will use the place again .
Review 9:The room did not have a shower & the carpet was full of stains & the door in the bedroom did not close properly.
Review 10:The staff were very helpful & friendly, it was a beautiful old building the public areas were very nicely decorated but some of the chairs in the bar were very tatty.
Review 11:The room was damp badly decorated and cold. The hotel is in desperate need of a revamp. They say you get what you pay for.... It didn't cost a great deal and that's what we got
Review 12:The hotel as a whole needs a complete refurbishment. My bedroom showed its age, there had been a leak at some time and the wall paper was discoloured and loose on the wall. I also did not like the fact that there was only one member of staff on duty and that was the receptionist. She was more than competent but the fact that not only did she have to cover reception she also manned the bar and if anything had happened to her there was no help for her. That was the biggest negative for me.
Review 13:Reception lady was excellent and very helpful. Location was good, excellent breakfast. Bed was very comfortable
Review 14:The outside of the hotel looks very dated so it was a pleasant surprise when we walked in
Review 15:The staff were fantastic especially the guy on the bar and the manager, really made us feel welcome and made our stay!! plus only £2.50 a pint what a bonus The breakfast was lovely and well cooked all our group enjoyed it,
Review 16:The dust, springs in the bed, mould in the bathroom, cold draft coming through the old single glazed windows. General run down state of the place.
Review 17:Good location for where I was going, parking ok if you avoid the pot holes
Review 18:Concerned as to safety of my car in car park as area a bit dodgy but reassured they had security cameras. Gentleman on reception wasn't welcoming but went through the motions of check in. Poor selection of bar food. Man's bar with sport on TV.
Review 19:Once inside room it was clean and adequate for an overnight stay.
Review 20:The plumbing in the bathroom woke me up on both nights. It sounded like someone was smashing through the floor!
Review 21:Staff were friendly and the facilities were fine for the price paid.
Review 22:Dangerously hot, hot water - shower taps faulty - unable to have a shower without scalding myself. Due to heat in hot water pipes, had to run cold water tap for 1 minute before got cold water. Very grubby flooring, but bedding clean,
Review 23:The Bathroom door handle fell off There was 1 mug for a double room Tired, shabby room All furniture dated and needing paint job The breakfast was inedible - rubber eggs, watery mushrooms(tinned) Bread was displayed in its wrappers - Asda smartprice - not ideal-very low quality bread-at least remove wrapper ! Very noisy at night-disturbed throughout both nights from internal and external noises. Mattress had springs that were uncomfortable.
Review 24:The lady who was hosting breakfast was very helpful. Glasses, cups, butter were all missing but she willingly fetched them. Asked to have freshly cooked eggs and she offered poached eggs as chef had wandered off. She did her best but they were hard!
Review 25:My car got damaged whilst I stayed. Nothing was done about that, I also had no sleep as there was a wedding that night. Staff were non existent.
Review 26:The room was average
Review 27:The hotel is looking extremely tired with wallpaper peeling off walls, single glazed windows and signs of damp!
Review 28:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Minor issues encountered by visitors were enthusiasticly solved!
Review 29:The staff were very helpful, excellent value for money as the price included a good self service breakfast. Room was comfortable. Hotel well signposted and easy to find.
Review 30:Welcome by staff at breakfast poor and after asking a couple of times about not tea and coffee was eventually rectified.
Review 31:Reception welcoming helpful and cheerful. suffice to tea and coffee making facilities. More than adequate breakfast
Review 32:The hotel is in a disgraceful state of repair. In room 18 the lavatory did not flush. I was moved to room 24, the window of which would not close as the handle had broken off. There was no soap, and one of the ceiling lightbulbs was missing. The yale doorlock was very loose and about to fall off. The central heating never came on in either room 18 or 24, in spite of assurances that it would "shortly".
Review 33:The staff tried to be as helpful as they could, dealing with a hotel in a disgraceful state of repair
Review 34:No bad experience. The hotel is very ´tired´ and in desperate need of a refurbishment, but I imagine prices would increase significantly if that were done.
Review 35:perfect location for my visit. Rooms were clean. Staff were friendly. breakfast was good. A good value hotel.
Review 36:The bed was so uncomfortable barely slept all night, shower needs a refurb and someone had been smoking either in a room or in corridor
Review 37:The staff were very friendly couldn't do enough for us location very easy to find, nice big car park and gardens we were early but was allowed in room straight away
Review 38:could do with a make over, carpets have seen better days giving the impression of not clean even though the whole hotel appeared clean
Review 39:Staff more than helpful and friendly
Review 40:As other reviewers have said, the hotel could do with some investment to bring it up to scratch.
Review 41:Met expectations for budget hotel and price paid for room.
Review 42:A couple of bits of floor were uneven, so you had to watch your step.
Review 43:The bed was comfy and the breakfast was amazing. It did feel a bit like you were in somone else's house, which was slightly odd.
Review 44:Great value for money, staff made us very welcome, excellent breakfast. Had some drinks in the bar & a few games of pool ion the conservatory, barman/porter was excellent really friendly & helpful, nice to chat too. Nice pub a short walk away if you want to get out, overall a really good stay breaking our journey home.
Review 45:Mouldy bread for breakfast and a mouldy apple. Very off putting and I did eat it as it was turned the other way up. Felt Very ill after. I asked for a refund of my breakfast in person and by e-mail and heard nothing. I will take this further.
Review 46:Comfy bed.
Review 47:Bedroom window was jammed open, the shower didn't work, the bath was rusty, the shower curtain was held up by what appeared to be a shoelace, the carpets were filthy, car park was unlit, other guests were exceptionally noisy
Review 48:The young man at reception was very pleasant and helpful, and the towels/bedding were clean and nicely made up
Review 49:As a lone female I half slept with chair against door as I did not feel safe. The lock was very loose looked like door had been kicked in. Room 30.
Review 50:Friendly receptionist. Male lots of enthusiasm and ambitious young man
Review 51:The place is in need of a good renovation. It's a shame as it wouldn't take much (carpets cleaned, some fresh wallpaper and paint) to bring it back to it's former glory (we remember it from many years ago). We stayed 8 nights and were happy that we were actually going to be out for complete days. Twice the room was not cleaned in that time.
Review 52:Other than the bed was comfortable, the linen clean and fresh and the shower hot - nothing!
Review 53:Reading the reviews before we came. Don't believe what you read.
Review 54:Staff were brilliant. Even working 16 hour shifts. Breakfast great and the food served at the wedding we attended very tasty and well presented. The staff worked as a team and were totally dedicated to their guests. Bed was comfortable and the room was clean and a roomy shower. We will be back.
Review 55:the rooms are very poor and run down e.g. broken light fitting, broken shower rail - there is a big difference between budget and shabby
Review 56:staff were polite and helpful
Review 57:The place could do with a revamp but I didn't expect much being a budget hotel.
Review 58:The staff were so friendly, they went out the way to make sure we had everything we needed.
Review 59:The bathroom was very dirty: like has not been cleaned for a very long time. I saw many pubic hair on the floor, shower. The worst thing was the shower head- it had grown a mold cup over it, so in the evening I skipped the shower. In the morning I scrubbed it with my toothbrush and shower gel- so much stuff came off :( only then I had a shower.
Review 60:Had crisp clean bedsheets.
Review 61:The room looked out at a brick wall and therefore the room was very dark and only one ceiling light worked and there were no bedside lights
Review 62:It was very close to the M6
Review 63:The whole place is just grotty. Corridors are dingy and run down. Used soap in bathroom, no shower gel in dispenser. Few hairs in bathroom.
Review 64:Friendly staff at reception and breakfast. Room was quiet. Slept well. Good basic cooked breakfast. Bed was clean.
Review 65:room not clean bed worst I every slept in toilet flush very loud noise for a long time which could be heard throughout the hotel. The staff found this funny we did not. Hotel in dire need of decoration.Worst experience every we have had.
Review 66:nothing
Review 67:Value for money. Although it was a bit run down the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We thought we would only get continental breakfast but got a cooked breakfast.
Review 68:I was given a room that smelled of stale sweat, had heavily stainedcarpets and a window that had no handle since that was on the floor.I asked the gentleman on reception for another room, he gave me a key to a room around 3 doors down. The corridor smelled the same as the first room and this room wasn't much better. The handle was missing from the window and the room smelled quite stale. I was about to stay but I couldn't pull the window closed as it had no handle. I complained and asked for a refund. The gentleman on reception agreed and explained it would take up to 3 days before it appeared on my account. Over 2 and a half weeks later and I have recieved no refund even after contacting the hotel and it's head office several times. I am about to take it further. I would recommend never staying in this hotel.
Review 69:Bathroom in great need of refurbishment. Bath/Shower controls unclear leading to possible scalding. Warning for very hot water needed.
Review 70:Very good value for short stay when needing to be in this area. Breakfast good and included in the price.
Review 71:The hotel was grubby from the outside and not like the brochure at all. It smelt musty and was not in the least welcoming although the lady on the reception who was also cleaning was helpful. The first room was small and had wallpaper hanging off, the second was cold and bathroom in need of refurbishment. The third was being cleaned, so I came back. The main window had black grim all around it, plaster hanging of the window recess, and it marks on the walls and a bad stain on the carpet to the bathroom, whilst there the toilet upstairs was used and sent a rumbling through the room for 10 minutes. At this point I was not happy at paying £47.50 for a third world hotel, I would appreciate a refund please.
Review 72:The fact I was offered 3 rooms before I left.
Review 73:The leak from upstairs room wetting suitcase and clothing
Review 74:Everything was fine. Liked the idea of a buffet breakfast. Spotlessly clean (though fixtures and fitting are tired and dated. ) staff were pleasant and polite.
Review 75:The room was dirty, there was a big hole next to the light fitting which looked dangerous. The light was just a bulb hanging from the ceiling. The carpet was filthy. The bath had no shower curtain so the floor got flooded and the shower was disgusting with hairs stuck on the shower gel dispenser. Wouldn't buy breakfast, it was cold and there was no butter for toast. If you wanted sauce you had to spoon it out of a small dish and it had gone all dry and horrible
Review 76:Good TV
Review 77:I ordered an early breakfast for Sunday morning but when I went to have it I had to wait until just 5 minutes before it was due to start, making me late in leaving.
Review 78:Very poor shower just a trickle of water and no shower gell. The hotel was clean enough but very tired and needing a luck of paint and new carpets.
Review 79:Thr price very cheap.
Review 80:breakfast was a disappointment, rubbery eggs and very salty bacon.
Review 81:Great location, friendly staff comfortable beds and very clean and tidy room. Great value for money.
Review 82:1st room had a leak in the roof and bed soaking wet. Second room was dirty, smelly, light bulbs missing. Stains on carpet and not even hovered Disgusting
Review 83:~the breakfast was ok, towels and bedding spotless
Review 84:The hotel needed a lot of decorating to be done, the bar had run out of red wine and Guinness, there was no soya milk or decaf tea or coffee, lady at breakfast wasn't very helpful, shower not very hot or powerful no tea and coffee in bedroom
Review 85:Spacious bedroom and pleasant staff
Review 86:Got disturbed by fire alarm going off. Caused by people smoking in room. Seemed to be a regular occurrence as staff seemed unperturbed & no apology offered.
Review 87:It's convenient for the event we were attending and represents good value for money.
Review 88:Went to make a cup of tea in bedroom as I was working. I looked inside kettle and it was very dirty bith inside and out. Shower had no soap in dispenser although a tablet was provided. Beakfast was awful with fried eggs, bacon and the rest looking as though they had been sitting for ages --and they were. Staff disinteretsed and not attentive.Room was very hot at night and I did not like to sleep with window open as it was onto a flat roof. Whole hotel needed upgrade/makeover in everything--furniture, beds, carpets, decor, staff attitudes etc
Review 89:It was not expensive. However, cheap should not mean that services should be poor as it does not help the hotel in the longer term.Towels were good.
Review 90:Awful cheap and dirty. It reminded me of a haunted house with dust and cobwebs everywhere. The breakfast was of poor quality. Value brands from Asda were clearly on display and one morning the milk was off. Paint peeling off the walls the carpet hasn't been cleaned in years. Why not replace it's disgusting? Spend a little more and go to the Premier Inn down the road it's with it.
Review 91:Nothing it was horrible
Review 92:The bar was very poorly supplied. I wanted scotch or bourbon, and they were out of both. The wine was pretty bad.
Review 93:The staff was very helpful, knew the area, and gave good directions.
Review 94:Our room was above the function room there was loud music for 2 nights until 12 midnight. We were not informed when booking.
Review 95:Good value for your money
Review 96:Shabbiness of paintwork and stain inflicted carpets throughout, especially bedrooms, although as a 2 star hotel I guess it would be nothing to be surprised about. Although breakfast`s were fine, I felt that the cereals tasted a bit "best by sell date " . I would guess this was due to being left in plastic containers all day and night and not being refreshed.
Review 97:Polite, attentive staff. Clean ,tidy rooms. Nice breakfasts.
Review 98:The fact that neither the stairwell or ramp to the hotel were not supported by hand rails gave cause for concern, particularly in wet weather.
Review 99:A delightful setting and the homely atmosphere, created by the friendly staff.
Review 100:The bin wasn't emptied or the bed made on the 2nd day of my stay and the eggs on the Tuesday morning were very hard
Review 101:Staff were friendly, overall the breakfast and location were good.
Review 102:the carpet was dirty and dusty. The hinge on the window was broken and while the room was hot because the radiator was on, we had to use a coat hanger to keep the window open. Otherwise we would have roasted! The radiator heat regulator knob could not be turned down! The mattress on the bed was not comfortable, it felt old and worn out. The quilt was dirty and old, and this showed through the duvet cover! The view from the small window was appalling : in between building, so all one could see was the brick wall, so poor ventilation. The decors in the hotel was dusty and the whole place looked tired and needs total refreshing! the pictures on the wall are "dead", plastic flowers all over and dirty. The juice offered for breakfast did not taste like orange and we did not even know what the other juice was. The presentation at breakfast was appalling! The brown sauce and ketchup was poured on a bowl beside the bacon. All looking horrible! the parking spaces in the garden looked unkempt, with open garage or what looked like one with dumped furniture. The whole place looked dilapidated. I will not pay £15.00 to stay there!
Review 103:we were given an extra hour to check out as we did not sleep well. We had to wet 2 bath towels, then placed on the radiator, so we could rest with less heat in the room! we tried using the plier given by the hotel to close the radiator, but it did not work!
Review 104:My room window had cardboard taped over the window to hide the gap as the window was damaged, the room wasnt very clean, the lock on the room door was hanging by 2 screws
Review 105:Good wifi connection
Review 106:Very dated hotel which was extremely dirty, everywhere needed a deep clean. The shower head was held together by gaffa tape, ceiling had been leaking and not repainted. Buffet Breakfast was very poor with the food not available together, it took 15 mins for the bacon to arrive after the other good. Overall it has to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.
Review 107:Convenient location
Review 108:Having to ask for toilet paper for a newly service room. Staff were very matter of fact, they seemed to lack identity & Team spirit. They're providing a service for the customer & should make them feel comfortable.
Review 109:It did the job. Good value for money, so can't complain. The place as seen much better days & is getting tired. With a bit of investment & some staff training, it has great potential.
Review 110:Everything a death trap room ten had the light fitting removed obviously been burnt same as the kettle lead
Review 111:Not one thing asked to be moved rooms have pics it was disgusting asked for a room move or my money back was told no
Review 112:Coffee in a morning wasn't up to much and no shower gel in bathroom , however I wouldn't be put off and will stay again in future .
Review 113:Really tasty breakfast , comfortable bed & room , nice & clean room overall a nice place to stay and will go again .
Review 114:I stayed for work and the Paddington was the cheapest option so I took a chance on it. It is good value for money with clean bathroom and clean bed with tea/coffee making facilities. Ideal for work related stays on a budget.
Review 115:No thermostat control for radiator that was on full making the room uncomfortably hot. Managed to open 2 windows and cover the radiator with a towel to help.
Review 116:Nice size room with bathroom and complimentary breakfast
Review 117:everything is so out of date inside and out needs a really good makeover even the car park was in a mess
Review 118:the staff were very helpful and friendly nothing was to much trouble would go again just because of the staff
Review 119:Would be nice to have evening meals available Room could have done with more cleaning, particularly around windows
Review 120:Comfort Ease of parking Breakfast Friendly staff
Review 121:We had to change rooms after the first night as the mattress was in a very poor state. Generally the hotel needs a lot of redecorating and tidying up
Review 122:Value for money. Cooked breakfast was ok
Review 123:Our first room was like sitting in the middle of a heatwave as both radiators were stuck on high and had been probably all day/week. We tried to turn them off but no luck (and a blistered finger!) and to top it off the TV had no remote and was stuck on one channel with the subtitles on! We went down to ask to be moved, and eventually we were. Our second room was normal temperature with a working TV so we were happier, but the floor was in need of a serious hoover, the toilet didn't flush very well, and I think my towel was dirty, and the body wash had run out in the shower.
Review 124:Cooked breakfast in the morning was alright. Staff were as helpful as they could be.
Review 125:The hotel's website promised a well stocked bar with several cask ales and we had looked forward to a nice relax in the bar after work and stressful a drive. Unfortunately, during our stay none of the ales were on and the local off-licence was closed :(
Review 126:Breakfast was superb, location was excellent, staff were very friendly, room was very comfortable and clean. Bed was roomy, comfortable and smelled fresh & clean. The en-suite bathroom had a bath as well as a shower. We couldn't have asked for anything better from a budget hotel :D
Review 127:No hot water in shower, bathroom filthy, very dated room overall. We had a room onto a balcony if you can call it that, overgrown patio with broken chairs and tables.
Review 128:Housekeeping very poor standard, photos on website are 20 years out of date and should be removed ! Very noisy plumbing. Dirty rooms.
Review 129:Breakfast, Staff
Review 130:Too noisy, very dirty, food not nice, could improve on a lot of things
Review 131:We were put next to a very noisy couple who were in and out of room every 2 mins banging doors and shouting very loud
Review 132:End of the day....name a bit of a give away, budget hotel. Rooms in need of major revamp. Our window was so rotten, it's a wonder it didn't fall out.
Review 133:Staff were lovely. Breakfast really good, exceeding our expectations.
Review 134:The smell in the corridor towards the room. Room ok until boiled water in kettle. Over hot kettle emits unpleasant smell. Dangerous?
Review 135:Sorry not a lot to like here. Sheets appeared clean. Place had been cleaned but some things are just hard to polish. Best thing listening to the owl in the trees close by. Bit H potter but devoid of magic here.
Review 136:Rusty element in kettle, previous guest's dirty towels left in room, rubbish left in the drawers, broken shower, ran out of milk cartons and offered fresh milk instead but no fridge to keep it in, breakfast cooked in advance and left under heat lamp, cobwebs in room, could smell smoke in hotel despite it being advertised as a non smoking establishment.
Review 137:Free wifi, reasonably comfortable bed and friendly staff
Review 138:Bedroom carpet hadn't seen a vacuum in weeks, it seemed to me. Last occupants' toilet paper still in the lavatory bowl. Some peoples hairs in the corners of the bathroom - again suggested very poor attention to hygiene. So glad we never ate there. Only saw one member of staff per shift. Seemed to be doing everything - reception, kitchen and bar. The sign outside says 'Warm Welcome'. My daughter had to go all around the hotel to find somebody just to check us in and give us some keys. 30 minutes or so of time and patience wasted.
Review 139:Nothing really
Review 140:There was a black hair in my coffee cup in my room - yuck! The taps made a lot of noise when turned on.
Review 141:Conveniently located off motorway 20mins from Manchester & easy to find. Nice pub within short walking distance with home cooked food. Price. Lovely helpful and friendly staff. Super powerful hot shower.
The Fine Print
