Reviews for Easington Guest House

Review 1:Place was ok but overpriced and room was dingy. Worst thing was booking . Com that moved us to there then failed to make it simple or reply to email regarding the promised refund of extra fees

Review 2:Lady that served breakfast

Review 3:Not a big problem, but 4pm check in is a bit late in the day. We forgot to set the alarm so missed breakfast on Saturday morning, it's only on until 9am.

Review 4:Free parking and less than 10 mins walk into town. Nice room and very comfy bed! We would stay there again.

Review 5:The room was cosy and clean, the staff were a delight. the Kitchen staff and dining room staff (particularly the mature ladies) were very good - helpful & friendly.

Review 6:room we were in smelt badly of paint and was not very clean the mattress was terrible all in all gave me a bad headache and a sleepless night

Review 7:when I was moved to a different room it was so much better than the one we were in at the start

Review 8:The scolding hot water in the shower!!! Half way through my shower, which started of OK - a good shower actually - the temperature got to scolding pitch so had to back out of it! I tried the cold tap on the bath and the basin but there was no cold water coming out of either! I guess the lack of cold water was why the shower was so hot. So it seems that when the premises is full and everyone uses the shower at the same time, the cold water runs out! This needs urgent attention!!

Review 9:Bed and breakfast was good, couldn't fault it, I did not have and evening meal there so can't comment on that. Car parking was OK too. Shame I had to wait to get access as they don't open until 4pm I arrived at 2.30pm and was not prepared to pay the extra to get let in early - that is rediculous!

Review 10:Owner and staff very welcoming and the room and en-suite where excellent ,breakfast certainly set us up for the day, will love to stay again. Thankyou

Review 11:I booked 2 nights stay in this place - Friday to Sunday. Reservation was for my business partner. Unfortunately when we arrived the staff informed us that they didn't get any information about this reservation from Booking.com and offered 1 night only. So I contacted with Booking.com and they said that everything was fine. The hotel has been informed and knew about my reservation. It was very unprofessional as I had to find a different hotel for the second night at a very short notice.

Review 12:We booked months in advance in order to secure a good room. The room wasso small, literally one small double bed, a tiny dressing table and anarm chair. The bed was ridiculously squeeky-no joke! We were on the topfloor. I can not explain how basic and poor the bedroom was, really. 170pounds for 2 nights, expecting a double bedroom with ample space. Wedidnt even have a decent mirror. We went up for a wedding so gettingready for it was important, mirror was so small, just fitted your facein it. My partner is tall and couldn't stand staright withoutbanging his head on to the wooden bars on both sides of the room. I havetravlled the worl dfor work and leisure plenty of times and have neverhad a room so poor before. Was furthe rupset as we went past a couple ofbedrooms that had their doors open and the rooms looked lovely, brightand spacious. Ours was sooooo small, dark, with a creaky/squeakybouncy bed and heavy traffic noise as we literally off the main road! :(Didn't complain upon arival as the staff were so lovely and Ididn't want to be a pain. Such a shame as staff are delightful andso accommodating

Review 13:Staff were lovely and that's why it is hard to give a bad review onthe rest. Very accommodating and pleasant. Good location in to town.

Review 14:Cramped accommodation with difficult access as the room was in the roof space which was un-expected. Road noise and creaky bed.

Review 15:Convenient location for Banbury

Review 16:Noise from room above, not least the very creaky floor, affected sleep. Toilet & water made some stange & loud noises when used. En suite/shower for slim people only!

Review 17:Overall was a friendly & welcoming B&B with some very nice rooms (some not quite as nice) but all well equippped. Restaurant food was good & priced reasonably.

Review 18:My last night I did not sleep well at all. the noise was too much from up stairs the flooring was causing too much noise, at any time the person up stairs move the creaking flooring will wake me up. I told one of the staff and she said they cant do anything about that but she apologized. My bed sheet was not changed at all, my shaving foam was on the sheet but it was not noticed.

Review 19:I had a comfortable to sleep on.

Review 20:Right at the top of an hill, but okay if you are semi-fit, and nearly sixty like us! Main gripe can't book in till 4 in the afternoon. Day nearly over.

Review 21:Nice breakfast. Clean room. Friendly staff. Roomy breakfast area.

Review 22:Allowing for the fact that the weather was cold for May, the guest house & our room was too cold for comfort.

Review 23:The breakfast was good, Dinner was also good but rather expensive

Review 24:Lovely to have a cast iron free standing bath but did miss a stand in shower.

Review 25:Location into Banbury is such a small stroll. Room 14 so big and accommodating for our needs.

Review 26:Large radiator in room but only on once over three nights. Saw hair grip on floor when we arrived, still there when we left. Ever changing staff, difficult to establish who was in charge.

Review 27:Location good, with adequate car parking, homely atmosphere with lots of regulars. Very comfortable bed.

Review 28:We booked this guest house because of the open fires which were not lit, the lounge fire could not be lit for unknown reasons, a minor point but one of our requirements when looking at accommodation.

Review 29:Looking from the outside of the front of the house lovely with pretty plants at the entrance

Review 30:Bath towels could be bigger Tea making facilities could be more generous although were available upon asking Lack of toiletries

Review 31:Well appointed quiet bedroom Breakfast excellent choice Friendly staff Warm and quaint well looked after building

Review 32:The top cover on the mattress wasn't very comfortable

Review 33:Fantastic breakfast Welcoming friendly staff where nothing was too much trouble. Big room with deep bath all beautifully clean.

Review 34:Bathroom fitment were dated and the cleanliness was not quite spot on. Breakfast was meanly defined between cooked English and continental.

Review 35:Good location, warm welcome, reasonable value for money

Review 36:Cobwebs in the room, and an open water bottle that someone had drank out of along with half a roll of toilet paper and an almost empty box of tissues. Also uncomfortable bed. Supposed at the 4star rating

Review 37:Breakfast was nice.

Review 38:Fee for booking was taken from my credit card before arrival. I did the booking but my partner wanted to pay - bit embarrassing! Always with other hotels payment has been taken during the stay (unless it is payment on booking - which is always highlighted). I don't know whether they are supposed to do this but best to be aware.

Review 39:There was a lot of black fungus in the bathroom, both on the walls & the ceiling, the taps also had green verdigris on them. The bed also had BLANKETS not a duvet & the quilt on the bed felt greesy. We went to breakfast at 0830 (breakfast was until 08:45) there were table cloths on the floor & we were told that they would see if anything was left to eat, so what was supposed to be a full English breakfast was about half of what was available.

Review 40:Within walking distance to Banbury.

Review 41:Room 6 top cover on bed very heavy and felt too restricted so removed it. No problem though.

Review 42:Excellent hot tasty breakfast. Pleasant lounge area to relax.

Review 43:Booking in not till 4 pm At breakfast the room was very cramped when everyone was eating. We felt like we were on top of each other

Review 44:Pleasant place to stay. We liked the fact that we could leave the car in the car park and walk into town.

Review 45:Poor night sleep due to staff noise, and room a both. Could hear the other guest talking. Breakfast was a hour slot so far to busy as all guess came at same time , ended up with no toast and no tea , so gave up the following morning.

Review 46:Close to town

Review 47:Not terribly welcoming. Room was small and very cold - the 1st night I didn't sleep a wink despite using the small lightweight blanket provided, having had to go to bed in my clothes. The 2nd night I had purchased a hot water bottle but had to re-fill it during the night as it had gone cold and the room was freezing. The tea tray and cups were dirty and hadn't been washed since the previous occupant. Thin walls - I was disturbed by snoring guests in other rooms. Breakfasts were rather disorganised - no one was there to welcome you to the dining room or tell you where to sit. The waiting staff took ages to take your order and menus had to be shared between tables. I simply didn't feel like a valued guest.

Review 48:Location wasn't bad and town centre was within a 10 minute walk. The room, although very small, was reasonably decorated. There were sufficient towels and shampoo was provided.

Review 49:Having to come home.

Review 50:The staff were very friendly and welcoming on our arrival. The building is very old but it was spotless in all the rooms that we went in. The house situated on the main road between Banbury and Oxford and to be honest we heard no traffic noise once we entered the house. Our bedroom was comfortable and again clean to a high standard. We shall be returning in the future.

Review 51:Our bedroom (no 2 ) on the ground floor needed a bit of spucing up. It was clean and had all the usual facilities and ameniteis. it just looked and felt a bit tired.

Review 52:The friendly welcome and the excellent breakfasts. It is an old building close to the centre of the town.

Review 53:Never really meet the staff until checking out, but we're very friendly as we were leaving.

Review 54:Allowed for a very late check in but didn't give information on the code for the door.

Review 55:Sat down for breakfast and no one acknowledged me for over 20mins so I then left.

Review 56:Good welcome, dated rooms but clean and comfortable. Does the job.

Review 57:We thought it sought to be a higher level quaint English hotel, but didn't quite make it.

Review 58:We had only planned an overnight stay and it was fine for that. Room was comfortable, dinner and breakfast were fine, surroundings were pleasant.

Review 59:The facility operates on ground/well water, like most B&B's. There was heavy water usage one morning because of all the rooms had been booked. Unfortunately my wife was stuck in the shower when the water turned off. That was NOT good.

Review 60:The rooms were very comfortable and cleaned immediately when the room was available. The breakfasts were excellent and so filling we never ate a lunch during our one week stay. The staff was second to none and were always accommodating especially, Debbie, the manager, Carol, who did everything, and the cleaning staff left the rooms impeccably clean.

Review 61:Smell of cooking grease throughout the building

Review 62:99% was very good Staff friendly and helpful Bed comfortable Quiet Good parking and free Lashings of hot water

Review 63:Management did not appear to be interested in accommodating a gluten free diet. Seemed more take it or leave it than warm and welcoming

Review 64:Could walk into Banbury. Waitresses friendly

Review 65:Nothing!!!

Review 66:Old world charm of building with modern facilities. I was poorly for most of my stay and i was looked after as if in my own home. Bathroom was excellent and easy to keep clean when i had made it dirty through my illness. Would go again without a thought. Quiet area even though on main road with town just down the road.

Review 67:We were recommended to eat at the pickled ploughman pub by the managerDebbie, menu was in the hotel info book. It looked fantastic. Foodturned out to be horrible, not the same menu as we saw, just cheap pubgrub. Cost us £17 for taxi there and back for food we couldn't,eat!Don,t go to this pub, it's overpriced rubbish.

Review 81:Staff friendly.

Review 82:Staff were rather noisy very early morning plus not a very generous window for breakfast

Review 83:Nice quiet location at night

Review 84:The guest house was scruffy dirty & uncomfortable. The food was very poor, reheated muck.

Review 123:excellent place to stay friendly staff good service excellent food and good breakfast excellent value for money thanks again

Review 124:Easington Guest House was set in lovely gardens. It is clean and comfortable and has everything you need for an overnights stay.

Review 125:A bit too far from the train station if you want to walk, especially with suitcases. Taxi drivers always overcharged me.

Review 126:I liked breakfast in the morning and the lounge with the TV!

Review 127:Stayed on main floor and room was average and very cold. It was June and had to ask for heat to be put on.

Review 128:Nice dining room and breakfast was good. Good Service

Review 129:NEVER STAY HERE.After paying 360 pounds for 6 nights here, I was literally KICKED OUT OF MY BED on the day of checkout. I had for some reason, thought check out was 11am on a saturday. It isn't. it is listed as 1030am but the manager or her staff will PHYSICALLY COME IN TO YOUR ROOM. If they find you there (asleep in bed, as I was) they will BANG ON YOUR DOOR LOUDLY AND REPEATEDLY until you re-open it, so that they can tell you to get out. When I explained I mistook the check out time and asked if I could have a quick shower before leaving (I had a 4 hour drive ahead of me, had a long week of work, and had a very late night the night before) I was told if I did I would be charged for an entire extra night!I left at 10:06 and never looked back. Shocking treatment of a paying customer. You are charged an exorbitant amount of money for the equivalent of a dorm room. Your sheets won't be changed. Your room will at best get a tidy. The TV may or may not have reception. It won't have any reception if you use the kettle while watching tv. The kettle is full of limescale. The shower cubicle has mould in the ceiling. They did not turn on the heating and I used a hot water bottle to warm myself at night. There is no closet. I came back one day to find the window of my ground floor room wide open. And on my second to last day I was not even given a replacement towel but had to ask for it.This is not a four star guest house. However, I would have taken all of that on the chin had it not been for the absolutely despicable treatment I received on being quite literally evicted from my bed after spending so much money staying for a week. Following which they had the gall to call me and tell me they wanted to charge me 20 pounds for taking their room key! (I had no desire to take their room key as I would never ever go back there). The key was in fact, left on the door, which, had they ever done a decent clean, they would have easily seen.Don't stay here.

The Fine Print

Easington House is non-smoking throughout. The hotel does not accept night workers. The restaurant is open daily from 18:30 to 20:30.
