Reviews for Monachty

Review 1:There was nothing that we didn't like.

Review 2:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Felt thoroughly relaxed and welcomed. Bedroom comfy and food was good value and tasty. Breakfast very good too.

Review 3:Bedroom was a bit gloomy, single glazed window with mildew/condensation. Bathroom needed upgrading. Overall good value for money. Very good breakfast.

Review 4:Helpful,smiley staff. Plenty of hot water.

Review 5:Some of our group had issues with hot water. It took a while to figure out in our room...but adequate. Decor OK. Carpets could do with changing.

Review 6:Staff very helpful during a busy new year. Did best to accomdate requests. Location perfect. Get a room with a view. It is part of the Brains group. Enjoyed fresh bottled water every day. Rooms clean.

Review 7:Room must have been above bar as it was very noisy. Heating was on all night and noise from boiler disturbed us. Breakfast wasn't great too much grease.

Review 8:View over harbour was very nice despite weather

Review 9:The beds are in serious need of replacing. There was no hot water in the morning for my shower. Breakfast was a disappointment. According to the menu you are able to help yourself to fresh fruit and cereal. No fruit out to choose from. I ordered a simple breakfast scrambled egg on white toast. Only to be told 15 minutes later that they had no white bread. Unfortunately I cannot eat other types of bread so had to do without breakfast. There was a shop literally across the road. Why they didn't go and buy a loaf I dont know. Really poor service.

Review 10:radio or tv sound played all through the night coming from downstairs may have been the night porter

Review 11:enjoyed the location good food friendly staff comfortable room

Review 12:Noisy toilets going through the night need something done. Arriving to find our room not available causing a bit of concern staff gave us a family room at no cost. Don't know what would have happened if nothing else available ??

Review 13:Having been here before we found the menu a bit restricted. But still OK.

Review 14:We really like this hotel. We were on a good deal. Had a problem with our room so and were moved to an upgrade without a quibble.

Review 15:Nothing that bothered me that much to say...... A nice relaxing weekend..

Review 16:Very good staff. Clean and tidy. It was a pleasant stay. Hotel shift manager a real assett to the hotel she had great local knowledge..

Review 17:Bathroom door couldn't be shut from outside so when it rained at night we couldn't shut out a dripping noise from outside the bathroom window.

Review 18:friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Very comfy beds. Free parking close by. Ideal place from which to explore west wales. Lovely local restaurants.

Review 19:The online photograph depicted a room with a bath but we were allotted a bath with a shower and the room was above the kitchen with the noise of the extractor fan

Review 20:Good location,friendly staff

Review 21:The location was perfect - great views of harbour and right on edge of quaint town. Flat easy access to beach area and town (both only a 2 minute walk away).

Review 22:Apparently the Manager was away and the relief Manager seemed to be doing everything while the rest of the staff had dinner in the dining area. The disabled facilities were very poor. Breakfast was poor. Price was way above what it was worth. Will not return.

Review 23:Some of the staff were helpful.

Review 24:Minor repairs needed in bathroom which detracted from it's use.Single glazed window in bedroom meant it was a bit more noisy than it needed to be on times.

Review 25:Friendly,helpful staff.Excellent value for money.Great location.

Review 26:Did not like room 4 for following reasons; Window in bedroom was frosted so could not look outside Bathroom door was not able to be shut from bedroom side

Review 27:Lovely breakfast Nice staff

Review 28:All water supply to rooms seemed to activate a pump which was quite loud - and was in regular, intermittent use all night.

Review 29:The 1st floor terrace with view. The beer garden terrace with view.

Review 30:At 12 pm was closed up and had to go to the back of the property to access. No lights and was difficult to see. No drawers in the room to store clothes. Said excellent view of harbour wasn't

Review 31:Clean room good breakfast and friendly sraff

Review 32:Of all the places we have stayed in the last 4 weeks we were made to feel the least welcome by the check in process. WiFi was non-existent. Not able to get even emails.

Review 33:Located near the harbour and seafront. Good for walking.

Review 34:Public car park adjacent but no offer of help with luggage up stairs(recovering from heart surgery) Small room.small uncomfortabe double.smell of drains in room(broken seal on toilet waste pipe!) English breakfast was not good!(deep fried sausages and hash browns, Bacon slice appeared to have been microwaved(pink and flavoreless) Only two halves of toast, not served until later! But very good coffee! Asking for payment on arrival is not the norm in my experience!

Review 35:Hotel prices in Aberaeron are a bit high, yet the Monachty is one of the most affordable down in the harbor.

Review 36:Simple but wonderful Aberaeron! Nice room, good food, rich breakfast, friendly prices at the bar.

Review 37:The breakfast start time was a little late

Review 38:The facilities were very clean and fresh with nice additions like the tissues and the bathroom handwash etc.Towels White and fluffy. Unfortunately I had to leave too early for breakfast which didn't start until 8.30. Maybe an earlier option by request would be a bonus

Review 39:Nothing.

Review 40:Family suite perfect for me (mother) & adult son. Quiet and peaceful. Lovely view from main room. Good all-round service. Great central location. 2nd visit - will definitely stay here again.

Review 41:The restaurant next door started cleaning its extractor fans at 10.00pm on two nights. Room 2 is not recommended. Shower hot or cold no in-between. Parking was a nightmare!

Review 42:Friendly & helpful staff. Could have been a better review in a different room!

Review 43:shower hit and miss with heat control could hear the TV in next room Poor meal on night of arrival ate elsewhere rest of week.

Review 44:Superb breakfast lovely bed linen and towels view of the harbour

Review 45:Only 1 thing why I give 4 star and not 5: if you want to eat in the restaurant section you need to stand up from your table and go to all the way till the bar section and you must order there(!?) Even the drink what I order I need to take it. Please change this system.

Review 46:Lovely place, excellent location with beautiful view and big free car park. The workers is nice and friendly. The room is clean. Great price. I will back...

Review 47:Noise from pub below when trying to sleep early evening but in all fairness it is a pub.

Review 48:Everything in close proximity. Beautiful area and view. Very convenient.

Review 49:rooms very dated, could be cleaned better, breakfast wasn't that nice either, hair on my plate yuk.

Review 50:Location really good, lovely views over harbour

Review 51:A little noisy when all the bottles were being emptied into the bin at night.

Review 52:The staff were friendly and helpful, we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. The view from our room was excellent.

Review 53:The mattress was extremely uncomfortable. You could see a hollow on both sides from plenty of use - clearly time for a replacement! Will ask for another room next time.

Review 54:The location was excellent. The room was clean and had everything we required.

Review 55:Avoid bedroom no 2 as the window was frosted as it opened onto the back of the kitchens where the extractor fans were. So there was no view and the room was very stuffy as you couldn't open the window because of the cooking smells!

Review 56:Good location in centre of Aberaeron. Room no 7 had double aspect windows with a view over the harbour.

Review 57:Poor room location, window was frosted as it over looked the roof, kitchen extractor was just outside so you couldn't sleep with the window open and room was too hot. Bed very uncomfortable. Lots of steps would not suit a disabled person especially as the back access for out of ours was uneven stairs.

Review 58:Location was close to harbour.

Review 59:Furniture in dining area very sticky to the touch. Breakfast, bacon was undercooked looked like it had been microwaved.

Review 60:Rooms were very comfortable and staff friendly and helpful

Review 61:Car parking. We were in Room 4 and were disturbed by the noise from the air conditioning unit which was not silent until 11.30. As I have mobility problems the staircase was a challenge

Review 62:The proximity to the harbour and front. Good value for money in height of season.

Review 63:Bed a little uncomfy The reception area is at the bar so it took a while before anyone attended to us to be able to check in

Review 64:Breakfast was simply the best.... beautiful views of harbour.... friendly & polite staff

Review 65:This was our first stay in Aberaeron and the Monachty. The hotel was very clean, quiet and comfortable. The staff couldn't do enough for us and we hope to return soon.

Review 66:WIFI did not work at all! Had an exhaust vent from the kitchen outside our window. Shower was somewhat awkward to use.

Review 67:Room was large enough and comfortable. Good restaurant next to it Staff was helpful. Parking was ok. Free cookies and bottled water in the room.

Review 68:the hotel bar and lounge really busy and everyone so friendly making us feel welcome the rooms clean and comfy and very good choice of food whatever time of day and situated in the centre of the town definitely stay there again

Review 69:Drinks were very expensive, nearly the same price as London. Service was quite slow. Parking is terrible very hard to find somewhere free to park despite free parking being advertised.

Review 70:View from river view room was very nice. Good location. Good Gluten free food options.

Review 71:The cooked breakfast choices weren't always what turned up on your plate i.e. When my husband said no tomato he got one but no hash brown. But they always put things right.

Review 72:The happy helpful staff getting anything you wanted. Also the tea coffee plenty of milk and biscuits and water left in the room. The view was picture postcard.

Review 73:Despite staff searching there was no hairdryer in the hotel. It should have been standard. This is a well known company in Wales.

Review 74:Location good outside area overlooking harbour.

Review 75:Very poor breakfast , poached eggs tasted more of vinegar than egg and they were hard not runny. Poor selection of cereals. Bedroom was above kitchen extraction so I got the smell of fat till gone 10 pm.

Review 76:Staff friendly

Review 77:Only drawback, don't book room 1 it is directly above the bar. The first night was music night and after 11 they kept strumming away. Second night we had to wait until everyone went to bed for us to settle down.

Review 78:Location, fair price and bus stop round the corner.

Review 79:The check-in was haphazard as it is at the side of the bar. One bar patron didn't think he should move to allow us to check-in.

Review 80:The price is right and the staff are pleasant. The place is conveniently located for strolling around the harbour.

Review 81:Our stay was part of a short tour of North and West Wales. We booked into 4 Brains Inns/Hotels at Aberdovey(best room view ever) Llangefni, Bala and Aberaeron. My only criticism is lack of an opportunity for a late drink. But this is not a major problem and possibly give us a better start to the next day.

Review 82:Spent 5 days here 2 years ago and it was a nightmare created by one member of staff. I checked locally to find out if the problem individual was still at The Monachty. She wasn't so nervously booked for 2 nights. What a change! Staff were all friendly and helpful. Rooms were cleaned to a high standard. Congratulations to all the staff.

Review 83:Never have room 4, it was noisy from extracter fan and the beds were very uncomfortable. Would stay at hotel again in another room and hope for a more comfortable bed.

Review 84:The location, the staff and the breakfast was first class.

Review 85:Our table in the restaurant on the top level was very sticky. The meal was good but not brilliant and the breakfast was ample but had been left under the hot lights a little too long.

Review 86:Great location with the restaurant balcony and the beer garden below overlooking the harbour. Nice bedrooms and comfy beds. At £65 for a twin room, it was very good value for money.

Review 87:The exterior deck was a good vantage point to enjoy the evening sun and watch the world go by. Not fazed by the fact that I arrived in full motorcycling gear and looked like a zombie!!

Review 88:When I arrived the receptionist said that breakfast was served at 8:00. I left my room at 8:10 only to find the door to downstairs still locked. A member of staff told me that breakfast didn't start until 8:30. They actually didn't start serving until about 8:40.

Review 89:Nice enough place with a comfortable room

Review 90:Room had not been checked beforehand, the shower would not work, and a bulb had failed in a wall light. Neither were a problem, but as the hotel was not busy, these could have been attended to.

Review 91:Good location, ease of use, helpful staff. Had my own back door key which was useful.

Review 92:We paid an extra £10 for a room with a view over the harbour, which was fine, but it also came with continual music from 8.15am til 11pm coming from the bar bellow.

Review 93:The hotel/pub was well situated in the middle of the town with a large balcony overlooking the harbour. Rooms were basic but clean.

Review 94:Our only complaint is that our towels were unnecessarily changed after just one day - despite having hung them up as requested!!

Review 95:The location, friendliness of staff and overall congenial atmosphere were excellent. Although it is a 'pub' there was no intrusive noise. The food was good quality - especially the evening meal. We would definitely stay there again.

Review 96:Bed not very comfy, no view but not a real problem , shower definately a problem cold 1 minute , boiling hot the next

Review 97:Perfect location , friendly and helpful staff , lovely gesture of a anniversary note and bottle sparkling in our room on arrival .

Review 98:Did not like having to register in a packed bar on a bank holiday Sunday evening. Might be better to have a separate desk to sign in. Also the insistence on having to pay before being shown to our room. Room was small and shower was temperamental.

Review 99:Breakfast was excellent and the staff were very friendly and accommodating during our stay. The outside balcony was a bonus to sit out and enjoy a drink .Reverend James was an excellent beer.

Review 100:Too many steps to bedroom The lady who booked us in didn't know our son in law had left his card details and tried to charge us again

Review 101:The breakfast

Review 102:Poor wifi but it didn't really matter on this occasion.

Review 103:Friendly, comfortable, great location (a short stroll to restaurants & pubs). We stayed on a Thu so whether the bar below our room would be noisy on a weekend, we can't say.

Review 104:Comfortable room, friendly staff and lovely food in the pub. The Monachty is in a beautiful location overlooking the harbour and within easy walking distance of everywhere in Aberaeron.

Review 105:Nothing to dislike. The shower room was basic/no frills but perfectly adequate for an overnight stay in a lovely town.

Review 106:The views from our room and the bar terrace were fantastic. We had beautiful weather and beautiful sunset to enjoy too! Really good value for a perfectly comfortable room and good breakfast with helpful polite staff.

Review 107:the only thing we would like to complain about are the breakfasts are not very hot when they get to the table.Sometimes you do think if the tomatoes or the black pudding has even seen any heat at all. otherwise its fine.

Review 108:Our room is clean,, comfortable, the view is brilliant the staff are all very good.

Review 109:We stayed in Room 1 bit dark as window looked into side alley and a bit noisey as near stairs to bar. Shower was temptemental, burning hot most of the time, but powerful. Bathroom could do of a bit of an update but ok.

Review 110:Located in a great position - in the centre of the town. Bedroom was small but clean, had kettle which was a nice added extra. For the price you pay it's reasonable, we were using it as a place to sleep whilst we visited family, so didn't spend much time in the room.

Review 111:Evening meal consisted of a chewy sirloin steak, a stale bit of lettuce, mediocre mushrooms and an eyeful of chips. Breakfast was very bland.

Review 112:The room.

Review 113:Lack of toilet paper. Hand marks left on the mirror in the room

Review 114:Excellent facilities, cracking view, staff very friendly. Room was clean . Breakfast was lovely. Very central lovely atmosphere in the pub. Staff very pleasant and willing

Review 115:The bed could do with a new mattress and a choice of softer pillows! 3rd day i had to make our own bed!

Review 116:From start to finish the staff are friendly and helpful. Female chef is a fabulous cook. Free nearby parking. Fabulous location.

Review 117:The bed wasn't made the second night we stayed but it's in a good location in town, wouldn't stay there again to basic it was a last minute booking

Review 118:Being locked in in the morning, because staff were late and no cleaning of the room when the housekeeper was off for two days.

Review 119:The breakfast. big room and efficient service when heating not working. Brought two heaters up to the room for us.

Review 120:noisy plumbing- dirty toilet-dirty shower gel-poor heating in room-noisy music-no dressing table-no bath foam-nowhere to put wash bags- nowhere to sit -breakfast 8-30 am-far too late for us so we left hungry-difficulty in exiting the building-no lights in corridors. restaurant food- the half chicken looked like pigeon-was stringy and coud not be separated from the bone-appeared to have been cooked twice-there was no choice of vegetables.

Review 121:the bed - the tv

Review 122:Thank goodness the extractor fan outside the bedroom window stopped eventually, ear plugs would be useful if you want an early night. Found the shower temperature difficult to adjust.

Review 123:Friendly staff, good food. Town centre position and will probably use again.

Review 124:I cannot find a way to contact S.A.Brain & Co. so I have to explain my situation here... My stay was fine until the morning we were leaving. The Wi-Fi connection was very good, the room was comfortable and clean, and it was quiet throughout the night. When we arrived we were told by the chap at reception (the bar) that breakfast didn't start 'til 8:30! As I was working in the area with a colleague, we explained that we had to leave at 8:00. The receptionist then asked us if we would like a sandwich prepared for us to take when we left in the morning, and we both said yes thanks, as long as we could leave just after 8:00. At 8:00 the following morning there was no-one to be seen. Not only that, but the fire door leading down to the bar and main exit from the bedrooms WAS LOCKED ON THE OUTSIDE!! We thought we were locked in, and would have to wait until someone arrived. Despite constant phonecalls to the hotel office number, there was no reply. We finally found another exit on the opposite side of the bedrooms which led down two flights of stairs, and exited at the rear of the hotel alongside the harbour. I shudder to think what would have happened if an elderly person had been in difficulties; they would have had to call the emergency services! S.A. Brain do something about this!!!

Review 125:location, Wi-Fi, and the room and bed were comfortable

Review 126:Basically the worst part of the weekend was having to drive the 138 miles to get there. We wish it was closer as we could stay more often

Review 127:What a fantastic location and town. The Monachty was far in excess of our expectations, as we paid such a reasonable price, for such a friendly and comfortable hotel. The staff were very polite and attentive and the food was great. We had a look around Aberearon for places to eat but after a great breakfast in the Monachty we had all our meals there. The room was very comfortable with a fantastic view over the harbour. We would highly recommend the hotel and will definitely book again in the future

Review 128:The toilet system was the digester/compactor type and as such was quite noisy.

Review 129:The breakfast was excellent. The restaurant had a very good range for lunch and evening meals. The hot drinks tray in the room had a good selection including bisquits. The staff were very friendly and welcoming which helped to make our stay in Aberaeron very enjoyable.

Review 130:When arriving, having to give details in the bar, with drinkers listening to every word. Had I been a female on my own I would have felt quite vulnerable. Breakfast table could have been spread out. We were all herded into one corner, so very much on top of each other.

Review 131:Lovely room with superb view over harbour. Staff very helpful and thoughtful.

Review 132:Booking dot com didn't book the reservation. They were useless. sent me three confirmations of booking and when I arrived the hotel knew nothing about it. Booking dot com are useless. Surely they should wait for the confirmation from the hotel, before sending me a confirmation. Do not use booking dot com EVER

Review 133:The central location

Review 134:TV was in a fixed position and can only be watched from one of the beds in the twin room, and the extractor fan from the kitchens was outside the window, which didn't go quiet until 10.30pm, wouldn't be a problem if you didn't want an early night,

Review 135:cleanliness and a great breakfast, staff friendly.

Review 136:GENERATOR ON OUTSIDE OUR ROOM UNTIL 8.30pm and started again at 8am. BREAKFAST COULD HAVE BEEN MORE APPETISING Other food was average.

Review 137:Central location for visiting Ceredigion. Aberaeron is a lovely place.

Review 138:The noise of the kitchen fan until after 10 pm

Review 139:The food was good, the staff were very friendly and helpful, lots of hot water and comfortable beds to relax in.Also it is very easy to pop out for papers etc and very central for exploring Mid Wales. We would stay again!!

Review 140:Toilet seat badly stained and needs urgent replacement. Room 4 has kitchen vent outside which created small and noise. Lack of car park makes parking a lottery.

Review 141:All the staff were excellent, great location, Food good both the breakfast and the one evening meal we had. Value for money
