Reviews for Marine House
Review 1:The staff were so friendly and helpful. It was also in a perfect location as across the road was a lovely park to walk my dog and it was only a 10 minute drive to the ferry terminal.
Review 2:Really nice room very modern and bed really really comfy! Breakfast excellent. The lady who took care of us and made breakfast was very nice and friendly. Thanks for a lovely stay x
Review 3:It was lovely and clean, internet connection superb and our room was quiet, exactly what we wanted. Our breakfast was delicious and prepared exactly how we wanted it
Review 4:Fiona was very welcoming on our arrival at Thornbank House (associated with Marine House). The 2 large rooms were immaculately presented with great views, many extras including robes, slippers & toiletries etc. Had to leave early for a ferry so missed breakfast but a packed breakfast was given to each of us. Fantastic.
Review 5:Nothing the matter. All good
Review 6:Friendly welcome and positive attitude by staff throughout stay. Nice location. Lovely breakfast. No hassle and fuss free stay
Review 7:Bed a bit uncomfortable at the edge, hard wire beading on mattress, but not too bad. Unfortunately there was a person in the next room who snored and it wasn't difficult to hear. Restaurant was closed and this wasn't made clear on Booking.com.
Review 8:Friendliness of staff, breakfast was good, good value. Location, close to Stranraer centre. WiFi worked well.
Review 9:There wasn't really anything we 'didnt' like except maybe....The ginger biscuits!
Review 10:It was easy to book and we received a warm welcome. The breakfast was excellent!
Review 11:You are requested to inform upfront your arrival time but this is useless. When the Marine House can't make the agreed time there is no call back.
Review 12:Professional welcome Bicycles stored inside in the (unused) bar Fruit with the breakfast
Review 13:Plugs are in awkward places in room, had to move bed to plug in phone charger and had to put kettle on floor to use. An extension cord would have been helpful.
Review 14:Great location for town and ferry from cairnryan. Generous breakfast and a packed lunch for when I was out too early for breakfast. Friendly and helpful. Good facilities.
Review 15:Upgraded to Thornbank House, part of Marine House Hotel, which couldn't have been better. Great facilities, lovely hostess, can't praise this accommodation enough. Will definitely return.
Review 16:Could get my wi fi on but decided to do without
Review 17:Easy to book over the net ,easy to find good location across from park and water ,friendly owner ,clean room ,good telly
Review 18:The stairs, but was worth is to see the view from the room.
Review 19:Staff were excellent, location is great for kids as park across the road, lovely views of the sea, best breakfast in Stranraer.
Review 20:Room was on the front of property - some traffic noise but the comfortable bed soon solved that issue!!
Review 21:Good room, at a great price and a great breakfast. Always made to feel welcome which, after a long drive, feels great!
Review 22:Everything!! Couldn't have asked for anything more. King size room with seperate bathroom & spa bath....private access to pool, sauna, hot tub & gym equipment. Gorgeous location & perfect hostess Fiona.
Review 23:The friendliness, the standard of room and the pool. Breakfast was excellent, wine and strawberries provided on arrival. We arrived completely stressed and left completely relaxed.
Review 24:High levels of welcome and cleanliness, and warmth. The position is absolutely perfect, for travelling by car or public transport, with a magnificent view over the bay.
Review 25:Small room, barely bigger than the bed. While breakfast was good, there was no menu, so we didn't really know what we were getting until it arrived!
Review 26:Free wi-fi, comfortable bed. Cosy retreat from the rain!
Review 27:The quality of the suit I stayed was excellent- big spatious room tastefully decorated. Fiona was very friendly and made me feel very welcomed. I travelled with a dog and accommodation is just few minutes walk from the sea promenade that was very convenient. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to have breakfast there as was heading to the ferry very early, but Fiona even suggested to make some sandwich for the morning - was very nice touch. Overall would highly recommend this beautiful place with very caring owner:)
Review 28:Only slight disappointment was the absence of reception area and lounge seating; also during the night the room was rather too warm.
Review 29:Convenient location and choice of room offered on arrival to give specific consideration to our dog (shetland sheepdog who sleeps in a travel crate). Lovely outlook over the sea and park opposite. Good quality all-Inclusive breakfast with good choice of self-service cereals, fresh fruit and fruit juices and table service of full cooked breakfast, tea/coffee and toast. Would be happy to stay there again in the future.

Review 33:We had an overnight stay at Thornbank House. What can I say, the house is beautiful the facilities for a B&B are amazing and the host Fiona was very warm and welcoming (and she cooks a superb breakfast!). We've booked again!
Review 34:We had to leave very early in the morning to catch our Ferry and therefore unable to get breakfast. What a lovely surprise to find two bags packed with rolls, drinks, fruit, yoghurt etc.
Review 35:We arrived very late but had no problem gaining access. Breakfast was adequate with good choices Very comfortable and clean throughout Free Parking Roadside Outside Hotel
Review 36:The stairs! Especially when you are carrying wedding and bridesmaids dresses up and down them. But that doesn't take away how good this hotel is
Review 37:We chose this hotel as the situation for the ferry to Belfast was excellent and the breakfast was really good x
Review 38:Absolutely nothing!
Review 39:Top spec decor and furniture Indoor pool that's over 6ft 8 deep Fab hot tub w lots of various jets Wee sauna Jacuzzi bath an suite Stunning views Hospitality tray w wine n choc n fruit n shortbread Superb breakfast Kindness of host Xmas lights!!
Review 40:We booked through Marine House but stayed at Thornbank House which was excellent. It was the best b&b we have ever stayed at.Nothing was too much trouble for Fiona and her attention to detail was second to none.We will be back.
Review 41:Everything was perfect could not have asked for any more. Fiona and her husband were brilliant . Already booked to go back. I usually stay in large 4or 5 star hotels but would swap for this any day
Review 42:nothing
Review 43:The room was clean and comfortable, it has a great en suite and shower. The staff were very welcoming upon arrival and were very helpful and friendly as i wasn't familiar on the stranraer area. The parking was ample and was just outside the building or you could use the carpark across the road. The view from my room was wonderful, the view overlooked the park across the road and the loch. The breakfast the next morning was delicious. Overall the nights stay in marine guest house was great value for money and will certainly use again when coming back to the area.
Review 44:Nothing
Review 45:We stayed in the guest house separate from the hotel and I simply can't recommend it highly enough. Everything was perfect. Beautiful house with lots of extra little touches. Beautiful breakfast too. The owner (Fiona) was wonderful and when we had a problem with our car she went out of her way to help us. Just superb!
Review 46:No remote control for TV (took us a while to work out how to change manually. Due to work issues, had to cut short our overnight staff, so sadly missed the well reviewed breakfast.
Review 47:Location was very good with car parking directly outside hotel. Room was meant to be garden view, but on arrival we were given a sea view which was very small but clean and comfortable. Will definitely return but would ask for a larger room next time.
Review 48:There is nothing not to like
Review 49:Lovely relaxing place to stay with first classfacilities . Fiona was an excellent host, and nothing was a bother . nice personal touches, and a lovely breakfast . Cant wait to go back
Review 50:No reception Internal signs pointing to restaurants and bars long closed down.
Review 51:Easy walk from station Breakfast Room view over Loch Ryan Bathroom and shower Comfortable bed
Review 52:It was just a little out of town - though the walk in was pleasant and not too far for a short stay
Review 53:Size of room. Attention to detail including home made shortbread and strawberries. Views of Stranraer from window(s). Leisure facilities. Friendliness of Fiona, the owner
Review 54:Fiona and Jim couldn't do enough for us. The most kind people you could ask for. Amazing comfy rooms with stunning views. The pool and sauna are a must when you come here - also the hot tub. My girlfiend, myself and our friends all stayed here before a wedding and were totally blown away by this place. Brilliant!!
Review 55:The hotel bedroom was a little too hot for my liking, but I usually sleep with the window open.
Review 56:My boyfriend and I visited marine house hotel 2 as part of a wedding party. From the start Fiona and Jim, our hosts, made us feel very welcome and spoiled. We were shown around the beautifully spacious and modern rooms, complete with complimentary refreshments, and then the leisure suite. The leisure suite was great, nice and hot with a pool, hot tub, sauna, gym equipment and a beautiful garden view. We took full advantage of it during our stay and Fiona even provided us with an ice bucket and glasses to enjoy some bubbly by the pool. And the luxury continued in our bathrooms, my boyfriend and I had a jacuzzi bath in ours; and our friends had a Steam room sauna in theirs, all complete with toiletries. It was just what we needed to get ready for the wedding, and the cooked breakfast the next day was just what we needed to get over the hangovers! Then, when our car broke down the next day, Fiona and Jim was kind enough to let us wait in the hotel while the recover truck was on its way. Even with a broken down car we had a brilliant weekend and all agreed it we would return.
Review 57:We stayed at thornbank house for 2 nights for a friends wedding, Fiona was very welcoming and the wee tour before taking us to our rooms was very helpful. The rooms were extremely clean, very modern & a great size. The pool, hot tub & sauna were absolutely brilliant to chill out in. Breakfast again was superb kept us full until late afternoon! Overall we were made very welcome and this didnt feel like you were staying in someone elses house, We are very thankful to Jim & Fiona for all their help & hospitality & as we have friends in stranraer we will be definitely staying here everytime we visit (if its not fully booked)
Review 58:Absolutely Nothing, except that we could not have stayed for longer!!!
Review 59:We stayed at Thornbank House, Great location just on the edge of Stranrear with fab views across Loch Ryan. The facilities rival any good boutique hotel in a smaller and more personal way plus the indulgent pleasure of the indoor pool, hot tub and sauna. The rooms are very comfortable and fitted to an exceptional standard for the price. The whole property is immaculate and Fiona will make you feel so welcome. Will definitely go back when in the area and recommend it to all of our friends..
Review 60:There is nothing to dislike.
Review 61:Great location for ferry to Ireland. Friendly welcome, spotless rooms and great breakfast, what more do you want! Book now..
Review 62:There was nothing we'd disliked
Review 63:It was a beautiful house we had a fabulous room which overlooked the loch . It was spacious and spotlessly clean as was the lovely bathroom. The swimming pool area was great with a suana and a wonderful hottub which was most welcoming after a day out Fiona and Jim were wonderful hosts nothing was too much trouble. Fiona cooked a wonderful breakfast whilst Jim was a dab hand with the Dyson.. I will not be staying anywhere else when I visit Stranraer. I have passed their details on to the rest of my family
Review 64:Maybe justput of town a little having said that We were given a lift by Fiona's husband & that was really nice so not really a complaint
Review 65:The whole package. The swimming pool our room was excellent & Fiona was the perfect host will definitely recommend
Review 66:Manageress very friendly. I arrived fairly late after a long drive. Needing food and a well deserved pint! She directed me to a nice pub/restaurant...thanks! Rooms clean and nice biscuits with refreshments provided. Wi-Fi free. A full breakfast included in rate. Overall great value for money.
Review 67:wee bit disappointed that the bar and restaurant was closed. (not worth their while)...which is maybe a sign of the times... but its one of the reasons we stay in a hotel rather than a B & B...anyway..we got a taxi to Port Patrick and were delighted with a beautiful meal the Royal Stewart which I would highly recommend and would definitely go back to .
Review 68:The lady at the property was very welcoming and friendly also had a lovely breakfast in the morning... Had a nice comfortable room but had to shut the window early morning because of some noisy seagulls which you have to expect given the location. We got a taxi to Port Patrick to eat out at night and I would highly recommend the Royal Stewart...
Review 69:booked this accommodation as it says in advert 'room with view down the loch' which i thought would be good for our first night of a travelling holiday (i was with my elderly mum) and actually you cant even see the loch from the room! minor point maybe but not what i thought i was booking!
Review 70:easy to find - adequate parking on side of road - central heating put on when we arrived soon got warm
Review 71:Room was very comfortable and clean . Breakfast each day was delicious . Location with view - Awesome . Owner was very pleasant and helpful . I would definitely recommend this B&B .

Review 74:The View was excellent from the room, the room was very clean and comfortable, the Breakfast was delicious and the Manageress was very professional and helpful, We will be back.
Review 75:the restaurant was closed as was the bar. the room was very small we paid hotel rates for what is a bed and breakfast establishment
Review 76:it was close to the ferry
Review 77:Loved everything about this accommodation, due to booking Deluxe King Size Room we were located at Thornbank House, just 2 mins along road from Marine House, it had stunning view, pool, hot tub and spa bath. Fiona was brilliant could not do anymore for you , all extras were brill down to strawberries and shortbread, nice big comfy bath robes cant fault this whatsoever, will be going back for definate.
Review 78:The room was quite small, although it was on suite with a view of the loch. They are building a new pier so it was a little noisy too.
Review 79:The location was good and the room was clean.
Review 80:Extension lead on floor to boil kettle, and plug in hairdryer etc. The lead not long enough to put on dresser., poor off white towels, cramped bathroom, oversized bed for the room,(ie.two three quarter beds put together) in general the room needed to be reorganized.
Review 81:Excellent breakfast, good location parking easily available. Hospitality good.
Review 82:The only downside for us was the family room being on the top floor and having a disabled child that cannot walk so had to carry him up the flights if stairs but this would not be a problem for other families.
Review 83:The breakfast was excellent. Great view from the bedroom and it was a good sized room. Was able to set up the travel cot without having to move anything around .
Review 84:room was outstanding with sea view, wine, chocolates, shortbread and strawberries in room on arrival. pool, sauna and hot tub fantastic. fionas breakfast was great nothing was too much trouble had a wonderful weekend cant wait to go back
Review 85:Facilities not used to full extent due to lack of staff, bar only open when required. One person can only do so much!
Review 86:Manageress was very welcoming and helpful. She's a miracle worker! Place was very clean. Room was lovely. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 87:The town itself doesn't have anything to recommend it other than being a good stopping off point for Galloway and for the ferries to Ireland.
Review 88:The comfort and style of the house where we had a lovely room overlooking the garden and the sea. We enjoyed the treats left in the room: fresh strawberries and shortbread for example.
Review 89:Fiona couldn't do more to make us feel welcome in her beautiful home. Super comfy bed. Bathroom ultra modern. Swimming pool, Jacuzzi and sauna are just fantastic. Breakfast was excellent with top quality produce. All in all we had such a lovely stay at Thornbank house. Will defo be back for some more pampering. Thanks Fiona!!!!
Review 90:It was stiflingly hot, but it was the hottest day of the year so not the B&Bs fault. Stranraer has very little to offer as a town.
Review 91:Nice room, friendly and helpful staff, and good breakfast.
Review 92:we originally booked an en-suite but didnt get one. Although we did have a private bathroom along the corridor, its not the same. Also the whole house is suffocatingly hot. the heating was on full blast which will be lovely in winter but not JULY!
Review 93:we were actually up-graded to another of their b&bs up the road but it was pretty fabulous! clean spacious and comfy food was lovely. they even had a swimming pool but we didnt partake
Review 94:The owner and the facilities were excellent. My only gripe is that the water pressure of the shower was not great, it was enough for washing but I like to feel more pressure.
Review 95:We stayed at Thornbank House for one night and would thoroughly recommend this b&b the owner Fiona was very attentive. Swimming pool and hot tub were a great addition to the property. The rooms were absolutely gorgeous every small detail was thought of down to the pool robes, and chocolates. We left the property very early to catch the ferry to belfast and was provided a packed lunch. Would highly recommend this property
Review 96:Had to ask for a pot of tea after sitting in the restaurant for 15 minutes waiting for breakfast, nobody noticed us :-(
Review 97:I could take my dog.susan was lovely and we chatted for ages on sunday morning.she made us feel really welcome and she works very hard.x
Review 98:We stayed at Thornbank House over the last weekend. The rooms are huge and tastefully decorated with high attention to details. On arrival there was a bottle of wine and some sweeties/fruits waiting for us in a room. We had room with great sea views. Bathroom had jacuzzi, owner thought about everything and there was supply of everything you could need even small deodorants and toothpaste! You can use indoor pool, hot tub and sauna as well as some gym equipment-overall very relaxing. The place was spotless and owner very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was plentiful full english with large choice of typical continental breakfast-that kept as going for many hours :) Place is classified as Bed and Breakfast but it exceeds that in every aspect. Highly recommended and we will be back again!
Review 99:nothing and we really mean that thx Fiona, and Jim
Review 100:Thornbank,house is a beautiful house with stunning views from rooms that are more than a home from home ,Fiona and Jim can,t do enough for you, great breakfast that will keep you going till dinner time.10 out of 10 for all aspects we will be back.
