Reviews for Ark House Inn
Review 1:the weather non stop rain.
Review 2:the friendliness of the staff especially scott well done sir keep up the good work.a safe friendly warm atmosphere throughout outstanding highly recommended will be up again for sure.well done excellent.
Review 3:Incredibly thin curtains and a streetlight outside the room meant it was like sleeping in daylight.
Review 4:Good location for the ferry, cheap compared to other places in the area.
Review 5:In all fairness I only used the Ark as a place to get my head down for one night. However the guy that showed me around wa polite. Room was clean and comfortable.
Review 6:Needs to be upgraded, carpets stained, only one bulb in light fitting, tap dripped in room, shower and toilet very old, none of us used shower as it looked unhygienic. Cutlery in dining room "sticky", we washed them before use. As they say you get what you pay for.We were looking for a bargain as it was only a one night stay but came away feeling "dirty".
Review 7:Centre of Stranraer. Cooked breakfast good and plenty of, bed sheets were clean. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 8:The bathroom (that a few rooms share) was very poor.
Review 9:The staff was very friendly and the pub downstairs has good food. Even though the Inn is on a busy street and has a pub downstairs, it wasn't noisy at night, it was quite quiet.
Review 10:Poor property maintenance and cleanliness but we know the owner was in the process of updating and refurbishing the property,Having not long purchasing it.
Review 11:Friendly staff and very helpful. Easy parking and convenient. Cheap and easy to find.
Review 12:No em-suite but really not a big deal for us as we weren't staying for very long
Review 13:We booked in as we were travelling early the next morning. We arrived very late at night which was no problem to the owner! Room was exactly what we needed for the night!
Review 14:Nothing
Review 15:Husband stayed here with his brother and friend said hotel staff were very helpful and friendly rooms were clean would definatly go back for an over night stay.
Review 16:On a Saturday night it is close to impossible to sleep. See the description, the whole town is a party and the pub downstairs goes boom boom boom. One could have concluded that from the description, but one should really do that. We did not, somehow our fault. There was no real cleaning of the bathrooms or the carpets in the rooms, it was extremely dirty. We did not dare to use the bathrooms for a shower. That it is old, no problem, but when letting out rooms, cleaning to a certain minimum standard is compulsory.
Review 17:The price before we have seen the accomodation. The breakfast is cheap.
Review 18:I am one of those boring "old" people who like it quiet, so I am not thrilled to live above a bar. However it wasn't as bad as I had feared.
Review 19:Friendly staff, nice room, good price.
Review 20:You could hear noise from the bar at night which we were warned about which was fair enough.
Review 21:It was basic but ok. Staff very nice. Food in pub below good. It was just a stopping off place so we did not explore the area but it was centrally located in the town and easy to find.
Review 22:Bit dated but good for what we wanted. Limited menu for food. If you want premier inn value and style dont go but it did what it said on the tin.
Review 23:Good value for money. Clean rooms.pleasantly surprised after the reviews.
Review 24:Everything except the location, the Communual Shower room looked vile ie: old damp stained at toilet area lino, old shabby toilet and basin, mouldy shower area, so much so, we did not use it at all, the flooring within the building was squeaky and the stairs slanted to one side, part of the handrail was missing, the carpets were sticky and well worn, the furniture and decor in the entire building is in dire need of replacing, No light in the Carpark, pitch black could not see a thing,
Review 25:Location is the only good thing about this place.
Review 26:Rooms are situated above an old pub, where a very loud and drunken going away party was being held. The rooms looked like something you might see in an unkempt hostel. The shard bathroom was in fact filthy.
Review 27:It was available at the last minute, after staying there we know why. Host was congenial and appeared almost apologetic. Catching an early morning ferrying Cairnryan the location was good as it was only 10 minutes away in a most direct route.
Review 28:Never too crazy about noisy late-arriving guests, but not the hotel's fault. Never enjoy bath or toilet-sharing, but that is to be expected in an old inn and at this price.
Review 29:The barman/host was so pleasant, and our dinner from the kitchen was delicious and so unexpected, quesadillas from a British kitchen?! We were very tired of fried food, so this was so nice. Also artfully presented. Large parking area. Best TV of anywhere we had stayed in the past 6 months. Wifi was also good.
Review 30:On arrival feared the worst as the exterior of the pub had seen it's best days but we pleasantly suprised at the cleanliness and good standard of food and was happy with the stay. Friendly helpful staff.
Review 31:never seen a House like that, toilette and Shower unusable, private parking offered, must park Motorbikes on the mainroad in front of the Pub / Hotel, touched and damaged by Teenager Guests. sleep not possible, People playing football 3 in the night, Stranraer Ghostcity deleted from my Map
Review 32:nothing
Review 33:Everything, this is the worst place I have ever stayed. The bathroom is dirty, moldy and falling apart. The carpet through out the hotel is filthy. The room I stayed in had a hole in the floor and cigarette smoke was billowing in. I complained and nothing was done. It was a nightmare
Review 34:Toilets are shared which we knew before we booked, however they are in very poor condition, one had a very dodgy seat, another was also a storage place for various items including a fold up bed and boxes of UHT milk. Walls in particular in the room were not clean, and under the sink was awful! The bar below where you check in and pay felt very uncomfortable when we walked in, however we got our room safely - despite the lack of lock on the door from the bar to the rooms. We settled down for the night and shortly after began the procession of boy racers which went on for SIX HOURS. Did not sleep well at all. The room had no kettle so had to use the breakfast room where the milk and bread were out of date. Will not stay again
Review 35:The room was reasonably priced compared to others, but what you get for your money is not much...
Review 36:everything .. even if you try you can't like anything ..
Review 37:This is the total junk place, the staff don't have any respect for gusts, they don't bother to talk to them or do any service, its like go thr sleep and get out next day morning by keeping the keys on thr reception and no dog will be thr in the reception. cheap but third grade place i must say.. no cleanliness at all floors are all sticky and smelly..
Review 38:- no clear place to check in - extremely poor security - front door of inn apparently left wide open, unlocked all night (we checked out early before staff arrived as agreed to meet our ferry, leaving our key in the room, and walked straight out without opening or unlocking a single door) - very dilapidated condition of bedroom and bathroom - uncomfortable bed - bathroom facilities (combined toilet and shower) shared between 5+ rooms - bed bug bites discovered the next day - extremely noisy with people and music in the bar until late - only on street parking out the front; when asked if it was ok to park there we were told it would be better to move it away from the door in case a drink person fell into it
Review 39:- we needed a night's stay near the ferry port; this served the purpose at a low price - guy who checked us in tried to be as helpful as possible
Review 40:Theres no ensuites the toilet and shower were at the end of the corridor note the Toilet was in the shower room. Theres no lounge downstairs just the bar, kids have to be out at 9 the place is a wreck. Sorry.
Review 41:The staff were friendly
Review 42:there's nothing I didn't really like, it can be a bit noisy if your at the back, but we expected that, we closed the window and it helped,
Review 43:the location is great, and staff are very friendly, it was clean and comfortable, and even though we didn't pay for breakfast we were told to helpourselves to tea, coffee and toast in the morning
Review 44:Shared bathroom was in need of an upgrade and would be nice to have separate wc when sharing with 4 other rooms.
Review 45:Staff were friendly and location good
Review 46:Nothing.
Review 47:Staff friendly, helpful, and the place was clean. Being a pub it was noisy at night but I didn't mind because i am a heavy sleeper. They warn you about this on the website.
Review 48:So outdated I didn't think a place like this existed anymore. One shower and toilet for the whole floor and that was also the storeroom for the milk for the rooms. Is this legal? Needs a complete overhaul, just dirty, dark and dindgy. And a lumpy bed to boot.
Review 49:Shared bathroom.
Review 50:Clean room and bed. Breakfast supplied was really enjoyable. Enjoyed our overnight stay. Staff were really helpful and informative of directions we asked about.
Review 51:Looks a bit tired could do with a make over
Review 52:My room was £10 a night ! Excellent value for money. Staff very helpful. Room and bathroom clean. Lovely food in the bar area.
Review 53:In need of a complete upgrade but at the price paid quite acceptable.
Review 54:Location was good, Staff and breakfast excellent. Price for a good nights sleep was great.
Review 55:Stains in the sheets. The staff was apologetic and changed us to other room, wich was better, however TV didn't work. Drawer needed cleaning. Bathroom was shared and not very nice.
Review 56:It was the cheapest place in the area, but I regret not have expended 20 pound more.
Review 57:I have no complaints at all.
Review 58:The man on duty did everything we could expect or ask for with willingness and a smile. This is a small basic town centre hotel which is value for money. I would recommend it.
Review 59:Shared bathroom poor decor Stores and decorating materials all over the stairway Permanent alarm on all night Closed in morning. No breakfast available
Review 60:Central location Food good Room clean and tidy
Review 61:Far too basic. It may be apparently cheap but even so it still not worth the price Has a bad name in Stranraer
Review 62:Good food at good prices
Review 63:Very wellcome,clean,cheap.
Review 64:Was not within 15 min walk to ferry port like it says on the site it was 20 mins by car Bathroom was shared and not clean
Review 65:The bed was very comfy and the dogs were welcomed.
Review 66:Comfort and cleanliness linked to price of room
Review 67:Lively bar, friendly staff
Review 68:Needs some major refurbishment. Also, be warned about the very noisy pub.
Review 69:Fantastic cooked breakfast.
Review 70:No en-suite. Rags and carpet off-cuts were stored in wardrobe. Leaking sink. Missing light-bulbs.
Review 71:The noise from the juke box at 2 in the morning
Review 72:The chippy round the corner
Review 73:location price
Review 74:Great location, staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 75:Rough, and uncleaned
Review 76:the staff was very nice, and everyone we met in stranraer were very nice people
Review 77:The whole atmosphere. It was like staying in a private home. Nothing was any trouble.
Review 78:Good food
Review 79:Everything
Review 80:Shower unusable,,,,,,, carpets dirty,,,,, breakfast horrible,,,,, other guests felt the same,,,, wouldnt even give it one *
Review 81:Clean bedding
Review 82:Price.
Review 83:dirty
Review 84:No meals,
Review 85:Price
Review 86:Shower room/toilet in desperate need of upgrade/redecoration
Review 87:Room was lovely
Review 88:Helpful and relaxing staff, also having the privacy of going straight to my room or going to the bar downstairs.
Review 89:No unsuite
Review 90:The food in the bar was excellent
Review 91:everything
Review 92:Needed bit of work done
Review 93:Staff , place was clean
Review 94:No lift The whole place could do with painting And renovating.
Review 95:In the town center
Review 96:Too noisy, music from bar was very loud
Review 97:Breakfast
Review 98:Holes in walls upon entering, dirty room and bathroom discusting, not worth the money
Review 99:the shared bathroom facilities, shower was disgustingly grimey, with hair and soap scum it states that all keys are to be handed in to reception/bar, but on morning of departure the door leading to this area was locked and I couldn't find any staff
Review 100:the one man bar staff was friendly,
Review 101:There are certain minimum standards one expects these days. The ArkhouseInn fails on every single count. We've slept at more salubrious truck-stops and paid less. The owners appear to have given up, probablysometime around the mid 70'S. The entire place is in desperate needof renovation. The security is non existent (the lock to the residentialarea doesn't actually do anything). The shared facilities are, frankly, appalling, and not fit for the gentler sex (guys aren'timmune, as the unwary are likely to face exposure charges: the toiletbacks on to an untinted window!) We expected the music till 1am, buthadn't counted on the drunken arguments continuing till 3:30,outside. Do not go for the breakfast, which appears to consist of aheavily priced (£7.50) bowl of cereal, self served from an an open box, with luke warm milk taken from a rather dilapidated fridge. We assumedthis was the breakfast offering: as the room marked "DiningRoom" appeared to be a junk room, in desperate need of deepcleaning, and the only giveaway that the one in which the cereals werefound might be intended for dining was the half eaten remains of a maccheese and chips festering on a side table, along with an unidentifiablebeverage of a rather suspect consistency. The only other table was piledhigh with laundry, we didn't check to confirm at what stage of theprocess they may have been in... So we may have accidentally stumbledinto the laundry room... Check out is self service... Either that or themorning staff just failed to show up that day. All in all, "ratherdisappointing" would be an incredibly positive review...&Quot;should be condemned" would be more honest...
Review 102:Fine central location. Great welcome from the helpful, friendly barman.
Review 103:Slightly tatty, the whole building could do with a little bit of fixing up. Noise from the bar and neighbouring rooms meant that a good night's sleep was difficult to obtain (not ideal when you have a 12 hour drive home, the following day). The T.V. wasn't tuned to the full range of freeview channels, which made veiwing options a bit limited.
Review 104:It is conveniently stuated in the town centre. It was cheap and represented excellent value for money. There was a friendly bar downstairs which served very nice, inexpensive meals and there was, free, off street parking available
Review 105:Room was well presented and very clean when I arrived. Lively bar which showed all the football games too which was great! Close proximity to local sops and local swimming pool / gym. Will be back to stay again!
Review 106:If you don't like a shared bathroom, that might be an issue, but I honestly had no complaints.
Review 107:Nice set of rooms set right above a pub downstairs. The people who work the place were very helpful, and he's up late serving drinks at the pub anyways so it helps with late arrivals. The great price makes it ideal for those who need to stay over a night to catch a morning ferry to Belfast or Larne. The bus stop for the bus that leaves early in the morning to Cairnryan is only a few minutes walk from the place.
Review 108:the smell, no hot water, loud disco, plaster coming off dingy toilet ceiling. Dirty shower. I had to clean the shower before I got in it and had to shower in freezing water.
Review 109:how close to cairnryan it was for ferry access. we were going to belfast and stayed here for a night.
Review 110:Great town centre location !! Nice friendly staff & great value for money !! Could hear noise from bar and street slightly but it is above a bar !! Will definatly stay again !!
Review 111:The carpeted areas could have been cleaner and the toilet on visiting itwas not flushed and smelly. Although clean, the towels smelled stale.
Review 112:It was a most comfortable bed and I eventually got a quality sleep butthe noise from the Bar and street below prevented me from opening thewindow for some air on such a warm night.
Review 113:Shared bathroom is in definite need of a full revamp. Would suggest junk and tools etc were hidden from sight and not left on show in communal areas.
Review 114:The owner was lovely, made us feel extremely welcome. Breakfast was great. Room was clean and comfortable although fixtures and fittings were a little tired.
Review 115:the communal bathroom for showering needs upgraded and bit of money spent on it.
Review 116:The room was clean, hospitality tray provided in the room. Small TV to watch some TV. I had a good night's sleep and it was a good price for these days. I have paid more and slept in some grubby places, particularly in London and the last place I booked in London, the breakfast tray was awful, full of cheap Lidl crap. I did not take breakfast as I had an early rise, breakfast is an extra charge at Ark House Inn and I was leaving pretty early.
Review 117:Great location, very very nice People in Stranraer! A relaxing feeling, but with beer downstairs!
Review 118:Just some where to rest our heads for the night.
Review 119:WORDS FAIL ME IN HOW TO DESCRIBE THIS PLACE.
Review 120:the first floor was somewhat scary when it's dark.
Review 121:the linen are great! love the smell.
