Reviews for Castle Hotel

Review 1:Although very clean the room was on the small side. This was ok for one evening but if staying a little longer I would have preferred a larger room.

Review 2:The A La Carte meal served in the evening was beautiful.

Review 3:10.00 a.m. Checkout is a tad early.

Review 4:Excellent location, very comfortable, welcoming staff and a good breakfast. Lovely view of the cathedral especially when floodlit.

Review 5:Windows needed a blind or better fitting curtains to block out street lighting outside. Room was a little small.

Review 6:The food at breakfast and dinner was first class as was the service at all times. The room was nicely decorated and cozy.

Review 7:Thought the 10am checkout was a little early as we didn't go to breakfast until 9.20. 10.30 would be a lot better.

Review 8:Love the way the hotel is decorated, great location and nice comfy bed. Good breakfast too.

Review 9:Occasional noise from outside pub goers. Would have liked more choice on A La Carte menu

Review 10:Décor of rooms and public areas. Quality of food - dinner and breakfast. Close location to Cathedral and Castle. Friendly and efficient staff on arrival and departure.

Review 11:Excellent location. Comfortable beds. Modern clean bathrooms. Good breakfast. Free parking. Close to Cathedral, Castle and ancient quarter of the City. Good selection of pubs and restaurants. Easy walk into modern part of city if you wish. VFM.

Review 12:I really enjoyed my stay, and my breakfast, but I did notice that each item on the breakfast menu was individually priced. I always think breakfast should be included in the price of the hotel room – or charged at a flat rate so that you can eat what you want without thinking about the bill. But I should point out that breakfast is my favourite meal of the day, so I'm probably biased...Other than that, I can't think of anything I'd change. I'll be back...

Review 13:The location - lovely to see the castle walls and hear the cathedral bells from my room. Also handy to have free on-site parking. I was in a single room, which had a luxurious double bed and a lovely big bathroom. The room was well-equipped (I particularly liked having a teapot.) and the hotel let me have a free breakfast because it was my birthday, which was a lovely touch. Thank you!

Review 14:Parking was a little tight. Walls were either very thin or our neighbours were talking at very high volume as we could hear every word. No lift, but this was not a problem for us.

Review 15:Good hotel for under £80. Located uphill. Staff were friendly. Good water pressure.

Review 16:If being picky, in the courtyard room we had to run gallons of water to get hot water and WiFi could be stronger.

Review 17:Food excellent, staff very helpful. Stayed in courtyard in a really nice cute, comfortable room. Castle just across the road.

Review 18:Unmanageable angled shower bar with far too high pressure of water: loose and chipped toilet seat: single glaze windows in room with rotting frames: room not cleaned/made up after first night despite hanging the appropiate card on the door morning and afternoon (e.g. twice)

Review 19:Friendly welcoming staff. Excellent restaurant

Review 20:Unwelcoming staff at reception. Kept waiting at reception on arrival. Size of room for price. Miserable bar staff (GLUM!). Tables in bar not cleared (few customers so no excuse). Bedroom far too hot & unable/not told how to alter.

Review 21:Great location. Decent breakfast. Excellent shower.

Review 22:Restaurant excellent but had to wait until 8.30pm to get a table - possibly too late as we were booked in for the night and had no warning we had to pre-book. Food excellent tho.

Review 23:Location and friendly staff

Review 24:Small rooms with thin walls and so too easy to hear neighbours. Stayed with my wife for her birthday. Despite contacting the hotel this has been the only hotel who has not provided flowers/wine/chocolate or an upgrade and so found this poor customer service.

Review 25:Breakfast was lovely and the situation ideal for shopping and eating out. Staff were friendly.

Review 26:Our only criticism was the lighting. In the bedroom it was not suitable for reading in bed and in the dining room it was too low and subdued.

Review 27:Small hotel privately owned with helpful, pleasant staff. Comfortable beds in a quiet room. We enjoyed our stay verymich

Review 28:Hotel was situated in great position - close to castle and cathedral (we had view of cathedral from our window). The staff were excellent - way above the "norm". Food good (although a bit expensive in the restaurant). Would certainly recommend.

Review 29:parking limited staff multi tasking meant no one on bar or reception on occasion mattress too soft

Review 30:dinner in restaurant excellent(waiter first rate) location great,(cathedral/castle/shops and pubs on doorstep)

Review 31:It wasn't a bad experience but it would have been nice if there was a sitting area downstairs with some comfortable chairs.

Review 32:The location, the staff, the food, the parking, in fact most things!

Review 33:Fabulbous view of the cathedral in an excellent location right in the heart of things at the top of the hill. Lovely one night stay to get away from it all. Very enjoyable cooked breakfast.

Review 34:The mattress on the bed was either worn out or so thin that you could feel the baseboard of the bed through it. The room had a stale spell coming from the bathroom - had to keep bathroom door shut and open window to relieve this as much as possible.

Review 35:Great position for access to the city especially the cathedral quarter and the upcoming Christmas markets. Good facilities in the room. I was in the annex across the car park. You have three independent rooms with own front door on the ground floor and an apartment above all three. Room was relatively quiet and not really affected by the cathedral bells as others have said in their reviews. There are many reviews saying the car park spaces are tight and it is awkward to park so I have added a photo of the small car park for you to see. I reversed in an parked fine - in fact right outside the door to my room.

Review 36:We were put in the Franklin room on the top floor. The room had solid outside walls on three sides and single glazed windows with a radiator situated under one window adjacent to the double bed and covered by heavy lined curtains. With the bathroom only having a small heated towel rail, and the heating coming on intermittingly,it was a cold room.

Review 37:Its location was close to cathedral, castle, shops and restaurants.

Review 38:Everything was perfect. 4 of us booked the apartment for a 2 night stay. Easy to find, perfect for visiting the sights of Lincoln and the apartment we fabulous. Will definitely book again.

Review 39:The walls are paper thin. I actually thought somebody had come into our room and used our bathroom in the night ! Towel rails are blistering hot I burnt my arm exiting the shower There was no bulb in the bedside lamp and could have easily put my fingers in the holder and got electrocuted Breakfast service very slow

Review 40:Good service by all staff very clean and tastefully decorated great location

Review 41:We were disappointed the dishwasher was out of order!

Review 42:The Castle Hotel is a perfect place to stay if exploring Lincoln by foot. The cottage was well equipped, comfortable and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 43:Breakfast OK had better choice in other hotels we have stayed in.

Review 44:Great location a few minutes walk from Castle and Cathedral. Very comfortable, nice and quiet at night. Staff very friendly and helpful. Free car parking.

Review 45:Not quite sure that an attic room with 2 velum windows should be a deluxe...I could only see the promised view of I stuck my head out of the roof

Review 46:Modern and well decorated with friendly staff

Review 47:Parking a bit tight. Bit overpriced.

Review 48:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The décor very modern and the restaurant food was lovely. Excellent location for cathedral, castle and shops.

Review 49:The bathroom. Designed and built to accommodate a wheelchair user, the hand basin was ridiculously small and the tap difficult to adjust. The large mirror had no shelf near it, was not accessible to a wheelchair and was not anti steam.

Review 50:Location and car parking in the heart of Lincoln. Clean, modern and comfortable bedroom. Helpful staff

Review 51:Could have a better bar and better selection of beers. Not a very comfortable lounge to relax in a bit un-personable

Review 52:Access and location were good service was excellent and staff very friendly. Easy parking at the hotel Access to the City was good and local services were excellent

Review 53:No tissue box in room and no still water in room. Handle missing off window.

Review 54:Excellent staff very helpful, food very good. Room good size well equipped.

Review 55:Excellent service from the staff who were extremely helpful without being intrusive. Great location and we will definitely return to this hotel, thank you!

Review 56:Excellent location, friendly staff, comfy beds and amazing breakfast. Couldn't have asked for anything more. I also left two silver rings in the room thought I'd lost them forever the hotel contacted me and posted them back next day delivery with no charge to myself. Amazing! Thanks :)

Review 57:Evening meal ,bit of a disaster.starter was nice, main meal came as soon as we had eaten our starter. My main meal that was 3 types of fish, the monkfish was not cooked and cold. The staff were very apologetic and fetched me another meal, which was red hot, but it spoilt the night as my husband had eaten his and my side order had gone cold!!!!

Review 58:Excellent location, lovely comfortable room. Easy parking.

Review 59:Fantastic staff....very helpful and welcoming. The hotel appears to be new and is very clean. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Amazingly powerful showers. Definitely use this hotel again....soon!

Review 60:The hotel's restaurant provides absolutely fabulous food, both dinner and breakfast were excellent. The hotel's location is also great, right by the castle and very close by the cathedral.

Review 61:No lift, some hooks on door would have been nice for heavier coats, but no real problems to moan about.

Review 62:Well run hotel, warm & cosy room, great location to visit Lincoln, clean and modern.

Review 63:Bathroom a little small for the size of the apartment and no vanity area to place own toiletries.

Review 64:The apartment was spacious and modern with good kitchen appliances.

Review 65:We stayed in the room with wheelchair access (although we didn't need it) and although the bathroom is very large and very well equipped, the wash basin was very small but that is probably for accessibility for wheelchair users.

Review 66:The hotel is next to the castle and nearby the cathedral and lots of small independent retail shops and cafes. The food in the Reform restaurant is excellent. The rooms in the courtyard are modern and comfortable. Lovely shower.

Review 67:Poor service at breakfast. Our order given to another table so we had a long wait. When our order did arrive it was incorrect.

Review 68:City centre location with on-site parking, not a common feature in Lincoln! Pleasant well furnished rooms.

Review 69:Decor needed a splash of colour here and there! Whilst the grey tones throughout the hotel were very calming, the Restaurant lacked any warmth or character as everything felt like a grey wash! Needed at least some pictures or bright soft furnishings.

Review 70:Friendly helpful staff.

Review 71:Very overpriced for room amenities. Shower fixture so bizarre that an entire instruction card is place over toilet to provide clues though likely to avoid liability when someone inevitably pot roasts themselves in the shower container No AC/ no facecloths/ no sight of castle or cathedral/ no lift/ no fridge/double mattress on plywood platform/ no room decoration/ one armchair though called a "suite" Two plastic wrapped cups in bathroom for glasses, etc. Hotel 6 room makeover to an historic location

Review 72:Location for Castle and Cathedral access excellent though very awkward to find by car due to narrow street patterns. Breakfast well-served in modernized lounge

Review 73:Reported bedside light not working on arrival. "No problem". Nothing was done about it.

Review 74:Excellent location near cathedral and castle, but quiet. Pleasing dinner on first night, reasonably priced.

Review 75:Small room .Tiny bathroom. Rude breakfast service. There was just not enough staff to cover the tasks that a hotel demands and to meet the needs of the customer.

Review 76:Position. Free car park. Quality breakfast.

Review 77:I was in room 106, which has a ridiculously hot bathroom! Think this is just for this one room. The room wasn't huge.

Review 78:The hotel has just been renovated to a very high standard - everything is clean and modern. Excellent restaurant (the service was a bit sycophantic, but many people like this). The location couldn't be better (in the interesting centre of Lincoln), and the fact that there's free parking - even if it's a bit restricted - is amazing.

Review 79:The room was large, but the decoration was quite tatty., particularly around the wardrobe area where paint was flaking off and the hardboard panels were coming away. This was at odds with the general tone of the hotel.

Review 80:Location of the hotel was excellent for our purposes, and staff were well trained. The bathroom fitments were of a good quality, and the shower was powerful.

Review 81:Only downside is the small bar which joins the reception area. It would be nice to screen the area off somehow so it feels more intimate.

Review 82:Great location, fabulous five-star accommodation in the two-bed apartment, staff great, food wonderful. Loved it. Will return.

Review 83:The food was very good but no plain dishes offered. This was a nuisance for me due to digestive problems.

Review 84:The comfort of the room and the walk-in shower

Review 85:One of our rooms (106) had hot air blowing into the bathroom throughout the night, even though it was midsummer, and the staff were unable to do anything about it at the time. With luck this problem will now have been fixed

Review 86:Excellent location and good breakfasts

Review 87:For the price I would expect a little bit more. The hotel showed general signs of wear and tear but I am picking holes

Review 88:Great location and friendly staff

Review 89:The hotel was right next to the castle which is what we had gone to Lincoln to visit so that was brilliant. It is surrounded by history and we enjoyed a drink in the quirky bars nearby.

Review 90:The chairs in the bar/lounge are not for those who wish to tarry awhile. Oh for an armchair to sink into and relax!

Review 91:The location. The comfortable bed. The breakfasts.

Review 92:Room was a little on small size but we knew that when we booked, so no problem. Sounds odd, but the design of the bath with overhead shower was slightly odd. There was a dip in the bath around the plug hole with a diameter of about14" . Thought this a bit dangerous when you were taking a shower, not seen this before.

Review 93:The best location, staff friendly, small but free car park. Any problems were addressed immediately.

Review 94:The bathroom is small for a two-bedroomed flat, the sink being particularly tiny.

Review 95:The location - in the Cathedral Quarter and close to all the sights - is superb. The self-contained flat we stayed in was just like home (but cleaner!). Having a designated parking spot was great in a city with traffic problems.

Review 96:Room 107.Bed alittle hard. Little touches needed, curtains did not close fully, cracked window and slight ripped wallpaper. Attention to detail is key, when paying £110 per night. Room was clean and shower was excellent. Would stay again.

Review 97:Car park is quite small and when I arrived two workmen had blocked off three of the only available bays to repair a window. They refused to let me park on safety grounds and I had to squeeze into a tight space further along. I couldn't get out in the morning and I had to wait until another guest moved their car. This made me late for an appointment.

Review 98:Located close to the cathedral and castle. Comfortable bed, good breakfast. Pleasant stay overall.

Review 99:Nothing !

Review 100:Location was excellent - plus made to feel welcome in a very comfortable hotel. We also had an evening meal in the restaurant which was also excellent!

Review 101:Room was perhaps not as big as we would have expected.

Review 102:Our de luxe room was beautifully fitted and everything was of a higher quality than the average hotel in England. All the hotel staff were pleasant and welcoming and breakfast was quite outstanding with a wider choice than we would usually expect.

Review 103:bar staff not trained, vodka & tonic with no lime or coasters, champagne cocktail £10 for 1/2 glass, his 1st week @ the hotel. soundproofing in room poor , could hear people in next room clearly.

Review 104:location good, very convenient for the town. receptionist very friendly.

Review 105:Only minor quibble was that on the booking description it did advertise a double bed however in actuality there were two single beds with a chest of drawers in between preventing you from joining them together even if you wanted to. It wasn't a major issue for me as I stayed on my own but a couple may have problems with that. Not confident that it represents great value for money either however as I haven't stayed in other hotels in the Lincoln area I probably can't expertly comment on this.

Review 106:Very friendly and pleasant staff, Nice clean and well maintained room, Bathroom very large and spacious, good range of facilities and services provided and WIFI excellent for me. Generally a very enjoyable experience and would highly recommend to anyone wanting to enjoy a comfortable stay in Lincoln.

Review 107:A modern hotel were the staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good . We had an evening meal there which was lovely. We were on a three Hotel holiday and this was the smallest of the three we stayed in. The décor in the room was dark therefore making the room feel a bit claustrophobic. Be prepared , there is no lift. Parking was free so top marks. We would stay again, no problem

Review 108:The hotel's location was excellent, both the castle and cathedral were within a few minutes walk. The room and breakfast were good and there was ample parking. All the staff were very pleasant.

Review 109:Bed was rather uncomfortable. Wi-Fi was very slow, even though the hotel has just had the system upgraded.

Review 110:Staff were polite and cheerful. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order. Super location for visiting castle, cathedral and old part of the city.

Review 111:Pillows far too soft for a good sleep. Hotel now getting shabby. Inexperienced dining room staff

Review 112:Location perfect for our purposes, food good and staff friendly

Review 113:Ihave arthritis & there were quite a few stairs. A lift would have been beneficial.

Review 114:The hotel's standard of cleanliness was excellent as were the breakfasts. Staff were friendly & professional & the location was perfect for exploring the old town.

Review 115:No lift creates some problems and bedside reading lights not really suitable for use when in bed. Requirement to vacate rooms by (I think) 10.00am is unusually early

Review 116:Location, on-site parking, quiet decor throughout hotel, and lack of outside noise at night - also friendly service (although one of the waiters at breakfast would do well not to refer to guests as "folks" !)

Review 117:Rooms are pretty small and avoid the rooms in the eaves of the building due to low ceilings & beams. Lots of stairs with no lift and the 10am check out on week days is earlier than most hotels. The free wifi is very slow & hit and miss in some areas of the building.

Review 118:Great location, nicely decorated rooms and good service.

Review 119:Service at breakfast was shambolic, 15 minutes to get a cup of coffee and an hour to get breakfast served.

Review 120:Fantastic location, helpful staff. Extremely comfortable, clean rooms.

Review 121:Room a bit small. Couldn't have windows open due to cooking smells so was quite hot, in spite of fan. I found the bed uncomfortable, but was ok for my husband.

Review 122:Excellent location, good breakfast, parking on site. Smart decor.

Review 123:Bathroom equipment places style over practicality - complicated shower and taps.

Review 124:Excellent location, friendly helpful staff. Well decorated and presented.

Review 125:It didn't concern us but some people might expect a larger bar/lounge area.

Review 126:Perfect location for visiting Lincoln's main attractions, being situated opposite the castle and a couple of minutes walk from the cathedral. Friendly and efficient young staff. Food good both at breakfast and dinner.

Review 127:Can't think of any

Review 128:The apartment was amazing ! Very high graded furnishings. Cleanliness and facilities are important to me and the apartment had it all . We would definitely be going back . Location was great for tea rooms , fab Thai restaurant and lively /friendly pubs .

Review 129:Walls are a little thin, we were able to hear people talking and the TV in the next room.

Review 130:Excellent location for castle and cathedral. It is at the top of the hill! Basic hotel room. Comfortable beds, modern clean bathroom.

Review 131:Car park very small.

Review 132:The Hotel was in an excellent location. Everything within walking distance, in particular the Cathedral and Castle. Walk down and back up from the shopping centre a challenge, but plenty of places to stop off for refreshments.

Review 133:Like most hotels, breakfast bacon like leather being too long on kitchen hot plate.

Review 134:Visit to castle and cathedral. Hotel quiet, particularly in evening, good lunch.

Review 135:This hotel is ideally located to explore the cathedral and castle area of Lincoln. It is tastefully furnished and the staff are polite and helpful. We look forward to our next visit.

Review 136:We have just stayed for 4 nights and can not fault this hotel. All the staff were so friendly and helpful, hotel was lovely, breakfast was gorgeous and hotel very central. Could not fault anything.
