Reviews for The Watermill
Review 1:Nothing good sadly.
Review 2:Sadly, absolutely nothing. Andy, Proprietor friendly enough. Entrance toHotel, dire. No Bar. Room, beyond belief sadly. SInk in Bathroomcracked. Bath cover panel hanging off. Sealant almost non existent.Electrical supplies in room, via cable extension. Wife went to usemirror on wall, but fell off. Really sad, as we once lived ~ 100 mtrsfrom Hotel. Was once brilliant. We checked back out within 15 minutes.Andy understood our rationale. To be fair has since refunded our money. Not what we hoped for at all.
Review 3:all the building was sticking and bad smell, the room wasn't look good and representative the toilet was broke. from my own opinion If they want to get bussien going they need to redone whole building and make area look better and health
Review 4:I would like, room and all toilet must to be clean and fresh, smell good and nice , rooms has to be in good condition for healthily and safety issue, hall and reception must be in good standard like others bed &breakfast or hotels, staff or manager have to be we'll organise before the guest arrive.
Review 5:The inside was disgusting - the bed sheets were damp, there was mould on the walls, the sink was cracked & broken, it was disgusting how dirty the room was.
Review 6:The location was beautiful & the waterfall was beautiful - the outside of the hotel was really nice
Review 7:Bathroom could do with a deep clean, radiator leaked. I specified I would pay cash but my card was debited immediately on receipt of the booking. I asked for an invoice for my company but only received a copy of the booking form with the credit card receipt. The booking form had my FULL card No. with the card CVC code plainly visible on it which could have left me open to credit card fraud.
Review 8:It's run down unsafe damp and detrimental to your health. Should be removed from your site or at least you should pay a visit.
Review 9:It's in Scotland Andy.
Review 10:The accommodation is very poor.Being a native of Motherwell and we were there for a special occasion we were so disgusted we booked out not staying there for the duration of the booking.
Review 11:could have dusted the cobwebs off, curtain rail broken, the window sill in the restaurant had dead wasps on it and cobwebs,
Review 12:the room was warm, bed comfortable, breakfast good,
Review 13:i did not like the fact that it took 2 hours to get in touch with a member of staff to tell me whether the place was open or shut because it looked derelict i had to pay for a booking which i never got and no apoligy
Review 14:The hotel was poorly maintained, litter next to the bed on arrival and there throughout my stay , radiator in bathroom did not work, basin broken, bath panel broken, no hot water to basin
Review 15:Nothing, the hotel was truly awful
Review 16:Serious safety issues wires left bare where a telephone had been removed and a crack in one of the plug sockets. Serious safety risk to young children.
Review 17:This place is in serious need of a deep clean! The room was filthy and clearly some areas had not been cleaned for some time. Build up of cobwebs, dust and HAIR piled round skirting boards!
Review 18:Greasy old carpet - pillows like rocks - dirty ancient duvet - elderly furniture - sticky floor and touch surfaces
Review 19:Andy - clean linen, towels and bathroom
Review 20:The Hotel was in disrepair. It was filthy. The back of the remote came of and went under the bed. There was no way my husband would put his hand under the bed to retrieve it. I looks like it has never been cleaned. There were holes in the wall where the toilet roll is. The pillows were so old and dirty we went and bought some to use for our stay. The bedding ie sheets and pillow cases were clean but I am seriously thinking about reporting this hotel to health and safety. It is disgusting. There is no other word for it. The sugar bowl was a cup with sugar in it, and the sugar was stuck to the sides of the cup.
Review 21:Absolutely Nothing
Review 22:Place could benefit from a make over No restaurant or bar open Breakfast was very basic Shower not fit for someone talk Smoking in reception area.
Review 23:It was basic but clean
Review 24:the room was freezing on arrival , the room was dirty , the taps on the wash basin were loose and the headbord was not attatched to the bed it was sitting against the wall the breakfast was not up to standard
Review 25:we did not enjoy anything about our stay at this hotel we spent our wedding night there 25 years ago and wanted to return for our own scentement but had a bad time
Review 26:The owner needs to take care of the mold that is on window sills and in the shower grout - probably due to the fact that it is an old mill with lots of moisture everywhere.
Review 27:The owner was quite jovial and accommodating and prepared a hearty breakfast.
Review 28:Room door opens without key.no cold water from sink cold tap.toilet cistern would not fill up had to climb in bath to fill kettle to fill toilet cistern.toilet flush button missing.
Review 29:The staff were incredibly welcoming and we felt right at home from the moment we walked in the door. Set in a beautiful period mill house, the room was comfy and breakfast delicious. You really couldn't do better for this price. Thankyou so much for our stay!
Review 30:The hotel appeared, from the outside, quite derelict. Inside it was filthy and unkempt. The room had no hot running water and when I pointed this out they removed the hot water tapa and said that they couldn't fix it. I didn't stay one night there and wouldn't have let an animal sleep in such conditions.
Review 31:Absolutely nothing!
Review 32:I hate give a bad review but it really was awful. For the price I wasn't expecting 5* luxury but clean isn't too much to expect. The bedroom was basic which isn't a bad thing. The bathroom was a whole other story. It was quite simply filthy. I like to use a bathroom to clean myself, I didn't even trust it to brush my teeth so had to wait till we went to the motorway services. I understand over time things get worn and grimy but it was covered in mould and a horrible brown slime on the base of the showers screen. Nothing a bottle of bleach and a good scrub wouldn't fix but that's not how I wanted to spend my stay, lol The waterfall is very loud too so if you're a light sleeper it might be worth noting.
Review 33:The staff were very friendly and welcoming
Review 34:The place was filthy, run down and had some horrendous patch jobs. There is no shower, only a bath with a hose attachment and for a 6'1 man that is no good. The whole place smelled of damp and hadn't been vacuumed since the 70's!
Review 35:The mattress was comfortable and the view from the window was lovely.
Review 36:Very difficult to find. Only saw a lady on arrival and a gentlemen who served us breakfast - nobody else. We were even asked to lock the outside door both mornings when we left and the last day asked to push the key under the door! The hotel obviously needs a tremendous amount of money and tlc spending on it - a shame because it has such potential. However for what we paid we can't really complain. The room was very basic but the bed and bathroom were clean although the sink was badly cracked.
Review 37:There was a lot of work needed there was a smell of damp and very dated decor the bar wasn't up and running so had to meet friends elsewhere
Review 38:Location was close to my friends and family
Review 39:Rooms and surrounding area required some tidying up. First room I was in the door lock was loose and it had a damp smell, second room was just Ok.
Review 40:The host was very pleasant
Review 41:No D/glazing to quieten the river water fall. Disgusting dirtybedroom. Dirty bathroom. Bedroom doors that dont fit the door frame. Bar- forget it. Unlit potholed driveway. Broken bed. No toilet paper.Consent running cistern. Paper thin bedroom walls
Review 42:Nothing
Review 43:Horrible location, right by the sewage works, dirty damp building which stunk of grease and damp and full of huge cobwebs and bigger spiders. Hot water tap didn't work, mould in shower, and generally dirty, unhoovered, dusty and unclean. Windows single glazed so very noisy with waterfall outside. Breakfast inedible, orange juice was yellow water(no taste of orange) and cooked breakfast dripping in yellow grease. We are not fussy travellers but this was a truly horrible place to stay, If we'd arrived early enough to find somewhere else we would've left. The stench stuck to our clothes all day, disgusting.
Review 44:Not many positives, it had a bed and an ensuite, which is what you need but not much else positive I can say.
Review 45:place was full of damp, everything was falling apart, sewage plant at the bottom of garden, hygiene was none existent, awful smell of damp & rot, if we hadn't got there so late we would have gone elsewhere, breakfast was very basic, staff that checked us in at night was also the breakfast chef & wore the same apron to cook breakfast as he was wearing the night before, fancy restaurant that is advertised does not exist & was told it is closed due to renovation (it was a pile of rubble), one of the cups in the room had mould growing in it & when I went to try to change it could not find anyone at all, reception area was a dumping ground for work tools, car parking for only three or four cars with no room to turn vehicles around, road way has major pot-holes & the place is situated at the back- end of a rough housing estate with no security, even if we locked the room door the lock was dodgy & the door just pushed open, the room was very damp & when we arrived there was an ELECTRIC convector heater on to warm it which was an health & safety hazard. My partner would not eat or drink anything for fear of food poisoning.
Review 46:The hotel could improve in many factors, accessories, toiletries, and facilities in tune with decent technological aspects.
Review 47:The gentleman at the breakfast was very kind to help us cater with the food as per our expectations, due to us being vegetarians. Liked the waterfall view from room. That would make me go back and experience it again, but if improvised that even better.
Review 48:Toilet in room had a water leak that was managed by using a plastic bowl from the kitchen with the remains of scrambled egg still in it, along with the bathroom floor tiles being cracked and a ceiling light hanging out, not to mention an electric heater sat on the carpet with a leg missing, potentially causing a fire hazard, which was worrying enough but to find the designated fire escape door next to the room being locked fast and had towels / hoovers in the path! Windows that didn't open, curtains that were hanging off and a general look of tiredness were all things we didn't like.....
Review 49:Struggling to be honest.....
Review 50:Very basic and lots of bits needing attention - and minor repairs
Review 51:the gardens and water fall were lovely - the room was clean and the staff were helpful and friendly
Review 52:The whole room felt damp, even our clothes after leaving them for the night.
Review 53:It is a lovely old building and you can see that the owner is improving things. The owner was nice and pleasant, food was cooked fresh, would like to go back in a few years to see how he has improved the place.
Review 54:Dirty, you stick to the floor in the bar / dining area. Skirting boards hanging off in the rooms. Wifi did not work despite sat at the site of the router Half the menu was unavailable
Review 55:Overall run down nature. Great investment needed in every area which probably could not be justified.
Review 56:When our stay concluded. Staff probably doing their best. We're helpful.
Review 57:A smell of damp and foul dirtiness everywhere. Our room had several appliances broken and potentially dangerous. The overall impression was that they had ceased caring about doing a decent job. The grounds were unkempt and overgrown. Such a shame as the location was lovely. In the bar there was only one lager available and nothing else! There seemed to be a complete lack of any stock, no snacks at all, which was a shame as we were starving. We got the impression that the owners have completely given up on the place. So sad as the property has so much potential. I have to say we were relieved to go, and I was concerned about hygiene every time we touched anything.
Review 58:The whole building was unloved, unkempt and unclean. Bedroom was smelly and musty. Outside gutters had grass growing in them hence signs of water ingress. Carpets hadn't seen a hoover especially the stairs where they were shiny. Fire escape stairs had furniture placed there and the ceiling had come down. Windows filthy, etc etc. This should be closed down or taken off the website.
Review 59:Approach is daunting in the dark - badly lit. Bar was shut when I arrived (10pm close). Place looks in need of some uplift.
Review 60:Setting by the river is picturesque.
Review 61:It was situated out of the way from any other public buildings.
Review 62:The building still had it's original features from when it was a mill. We saw & heard the water rushing from our bedroom.
Review 63:The place is just old fashioned which makes it look grubby. With a makeover it could be a gorgeous place, but it really would cost a fortune to do that.
Review 64:Location was perfect and the food was great.
Review 65:Not much, for the price the conditions where average, a little bit of new paint wouldn't go astray
Review 66:Great location, very quite, waterfall makes very nice ambient white noise, very fast wifi
Review 67:The toilet flusher button was broken and had been like it some time. The drawer to put your things in was missing half Its bottom. When asked if there was à room with a table where I could do some work No he was locking up at 10am.I thought I had the room for two nightsnot to have to be turned out by 10 on day 2 A most unpleasant stay the room 2 needs urgent Attention. So does the presentation of breakfast.
Review 68:The waterfall from bedroom filthy window A guy did say he would refund day 2 after I complained but said the quality of the place reflected in the priceVeryFaulty Towers
Review 69:Overall cleanliness of the hotel was really bad. ie, mould in bathroom and dust and dirt everywhere, didnt feel comfortable at all in bed. Due to thinking of what else was in the bed.
Review 70:Beautiful location, everything else lets the hotel down. Although has loads of potential to be a lovely place.
Review 71:Took ages to find someone to check in and check out was 10 am went down stairs at half 9 and found a note to say we had missed breakfast at that the owner was away out to leave keys in door not a nice experience
Review 72:Set in the middle of a housing estate. The hotel was in need of some investment and it could be lovely however it looks like it's run down with no reception mattress in the hall way and fire exit with clutter all around mold in the bathroom I had no Tea/coffee and had to go and get some.
Review 73:they have a weir which in the summer would be very nice to sit out but this was run down also.
Review 74:Really dated and tired In need of refurbishment badly
Review 75:The look of the outside of the property The price of the room was very cheap and breakfast was ok
Review 76:No staff to check out, lose tiles in bathroom, no mini shampoos and used bar of soap. No heating and the free breakfast should have been great but when I got up at 8.30 there was no one to be found let alone breakfast
Review 77:The cost
Review 78:The service, quality of the room, breakfast.....everything competed to be worst than the other!!! I would not suggest anyone to visit there !! The most horrible feeling..
Review 79:Checking out of the hotel was something that I liked the most !! Bed quality was good.
Review 80:Facilities are only adequate but maybe due to retaining the character.
Review 81:A tiny waterfall gives the atmosphere of the building in use. Original features evident everywhere. I only met the barman but he was very friendly and really helpful. A pleasant stay.
Review 82:Check in times are quite late.
Review 83:The Hotel is clean but is very dated. It could benefit from modernisation and some attention to detail. Overall I would describe it as functional, ideal for an overnight but wouldn't stay much longer.
Review 84:some of the socket in the room where broken, floor under bed not cleaned. could do with some minor maintenance.
Review 85:love the sound of the river, large room, breakfast was filling
Review 86:The whole place was extremely run down, smelly, damp and smelling strongly of smoke, I got locked in in the morning and tried to exit by the fire escape but could not do so because it was completely blocked by building rubbish, I did eventually manage to get out by the front door but had to leave it unlocked.
Review 87:The river running by, helpful owner.
Review 88:Poor parking for hotel location and the place is way too basic for the majority of people
Review 89:The owner is nice enough but the place has got away on him and he needs to do considerable work to get it back to suitable accommodation Finding the place late at night very difficult.
Review 90:as stated there is nothing to like about the place. Its a disgrace to call it a hotel.I have several photos to prove my points
Review 91:Nothing to like about it. Looks neglected.Taxi driver refused to drive down the lane so i had to walk from main road
Review 92:The toilet was broken and it was cold but we managed to work the small radiator and the room heated up fairly quick. Also we were told breakfast was served until 10.30 we went down at 10.10 and were told we missed the breakfast?? No idea why this was.
Review 93:View from window.
Review 94:Informed breakfast was at 9am but as my son was competing at 9am we arranged to breakfast at 8am. No one turned up to serve us however and there were no contact details for staff in the bedroom. Eventually we had to leave at 8.30 leaving payment in the still empty dining room and were almost late for the gala as a result.
Review 95:The road to the hotel was full of holes. The bathroom was needing a lot of work. The main part of the hotel was cold.
Review 96:Not far from home enjoyed the overnight stay. Breakfast was good the staff were friendly
Review 97:The long driveway down a bank & the walk from the car park which when we were there - in the snow - was dangerous.
Review 98:The water going over the weir. The friendliness of the landlord and his willingness to go out of the way for us.The great breakfast.
Review 99:That I couldn't stay longer! ☺
Review 100:Andy the owner/chef and his wife are excellent hosts, that work their socks off to ensue you have a great stay, excellent value for money for accommodation and excellent food ☺
Review 101:See above
Review 102:Nothing. The approach had lots of fly tipping. A sewage plant is close by. The whole place looked ill kempt. We did not get out the car. We telephoned and cancelled the booking.
Review 103:No Bulb in main Ceiling light in Bedroom. Only one side light, so NO night reading.Only three small Bathroom ceiling lights, none of which was over Bathroom mirror. Hot water tap not working. Springs coming through mattress. All small, easily remedied things, AND ALL IN BEDROOM.
Review 104:Location, Food, Friendliness & Helpfulness of Staff, Price.
Review 105:Room was very cramped only enough coffee left out for 2 drinks radiatormade stupid noises all night as it was full of air. Shower did not workproperly kept going cold. The tv did not work. If you paid £ 20.00 pernight for this hotel it would be too much.
Review 106:Room was very dated and dusty, bathroom grouting was black extractor fan hanging from ceiling and flusher on the toilet was broken. Could do with double glazing as running water from the water right outside the room was constant and very loud. Had a old musty damp smokey smell even though our room was apparently none smoking.
Review 107:It was in a central location for what we wanted
Review 108:It was filthy! Hundreds of dead flies in main lightfitting, stains all over walls, head board stained with dirt, broken furniture, dirty cups and glasses in room. Poor quality bacon sausages etc the toast was bearable!
Review 109:Nothing!!!
Review 110:Cracking bar, comfortable sleep, and an owner who couldn't do enough for you!! He seemed to be a jack of all trades, handled the check in, served behind the bar, cooked breakfast, cleaned the rooms. Superb service and would certainly not hesitate in staying here again, or at the very least, recommending the hotel to others.
Review 111:Outside appearance Difficult shower, poor water pressure Television buzzed loudly. Radiator didn't work properly do room was cold.
Review 112:Friendly staff. Size of room good Quiet. Parking
Review 113:Stayed for two nights, room was not cleaned after first night, beds were not made and towels not replaced, just left on the floor. Yes, the hotel was cheap so expectations were not that high, but basic cleanliness should be a given!
Review 114:Location is next to a run down estate the sign leading in looked like it had bullet holes in it, it smelled damp, bathroom was falling apart beds were too small, you can get the same room in the centre for cheaper
Review 115:It's a lovely old building
Review 116:Room could have done with a bit of a spring clean. The carpets could be doing with shampoo as there is a bit of a musty smell coming from them ok for 1 night but if stayed longer may have been a bit of a problem. The toilet didnt have a button on top of the flusher which is an easy fix.
Review 117:The price and location were just right for our 1 night stay. The venue was very accomidating for our baby boy. The breakfast was good and there were option's for a cold or hot breakfast.
Review 118:We didn't like the smell of damp that greeted us in the reception area. The breakfast could have been better with items such as the tea & beans served lukewarm at best. The rooms, 3 & 7 were in real need of upgrading. Not a place I would be expecting to return to anytime soon.
Review 119:We liked the comfartable beds & clean bathrooms/showers.
Review 120:Could do with a PIR light on the overflow car park as we couldnt really see where we were walking.
Review 121:The owner/manager was friendly and helpful and couldnt do enough to provide excellent customer service. This guy is trying his best to upgrade the facilities on offer and the ongoing renovations will make a difference. I am sure given a little time and moral support from customers this could be a great little hotel........ I have stayed in worse places
Review 122:Sat Nav sends you to the wrong destination.Building is going through refurbishment and this is not mentioned on Booking.com very run down, so no bar although they can provide alcohol, menu limited. Food warm.Could not be bothered to complain as nowhere else to find food close by.
Review 123:People friendly.
Review 124:Limited parking; stained carpeting; dark hall ways; no sound barriers between rooms; general appearance of neglect.
Review 125:Location next to a mill stream and country park like setting.
Review 126:Andy the in keeper was awesome. The room was tiny but comfortable. The food was always good. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel this is not going to work for you but if you want a quiet clean friendly place to stay for a night or 2 I would recommend. The scenery is lovely and one can hear the water rolling from the river.
Review 127:The business needs closing for a period of time and completely refurbished. New ideas need to be incorporated. A large capex spend is required. I would also suggest planning permision be applied for to clear some of the unkempt garfen area to add a parking facilities. As it is the business is a disgrace, but..... there is huge potential if there was real investment to bring it back to its former glory.
Review 128:The location.
Review 129:Room smelt musty, tv did not work. only cold water when tying to have a shower. Only one pillow per person and bed very hard. not an enjoyable experience.
Review 130:Just a couple of things. The cold tap on the sink only gave a trickle of water. Also a few more breakfast starters would have been good, especially fruit.
Review 131:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean. Excellent cooked breakfast.
Review 132:Smells from ladies toilet on first floor level. Water pressure for bath etc. low.
Review 133:Friendly staff. Waterfall outside of room. Breakfast Room. Breakfast.
The Fine Print
The bar and restaurant are open Monday to Thursday and food is served from 18:00.
