Reviews for The Lincoln Hotel
Review 1:Would have preferred wider meal choice in the evenings.
Review 2:For us a very good location (ideal for cathedral, castle and museum) good car parking. Nice warm room. good choice of breakfast. helpful staff.
Review 3:One large curtain at the window rather than split curtains which covered the radiator. Cold evening and you couldn't regulate the room temp. Small thing but seemed relevant at the time.
Review 4:Relaxed bar area. Nice welcome at breakfast good selection of drinks, hot and cold buffet.
Review 5:Unable to order a snack late evening on premises – we had to go out to a bar in the same building (using the same kitchen!)
Review 6:Helpful and efficient staff. Rooms clean. A very nice stay meeting other family members and attending a superb Lincoln Cathedral Carol Concert.
Review 7:All the staff we meet need to brighten up and do more to make guests feel more welcome. Everything is quiet robotic. Not impolite but needs to be more friendly somehow: At breakfast nobody says Goodmorning - The ladies just ask for your room number. This is an example of the way you are treated all the way through. We have been many times in this hotel and enjoy our room etc. but always feel a bit not welcome. If we write in advance if we could please have our room ready for 1.30 instead of 14.00 we always get the reply "We check people in from 14.00..." No flexibility at all. We are in hotels around Europe 200 days a year and in every other hotel things can be flexible and more customer-service focused, if you ask in advance and less rule bound.
Review 8:Location and our room was fine and up to standard for the price.
Review 9:We were guests at a wedding. The hotel was aware beforehand that one of our young children has allergies and had agreed a suitable menu for her. When we got to our table it was set up with rolls and butter within her reach which she cannot have (not major but caused hassle as she loves bread and didn't understand why she couldn't have it). We had been told the soup would be fine for her, but when it came out we thought we would double check. They obviously had no idea what we were talking about. They went to check if she could have it; no she couldn't, even though they had previously agreed that she could. Added stress as she was now starving and just wanted the food which she could see! They did give her some melon and raspberries instead, and then managed to sort out her main and dessert accordingly, but I would not recommend this hotel if you have dietary requirements such as allergies. The staff were pleasant enough, but did not seem to be managed and organised that well. My husband also caught one of the bar staff short measuring drinks...
Review 10:Lovely location, bedroom was nice but in need of tlc.
Review 11:Weather but hey we live in England
Review 12:Excellent stay at the Lincoln and got a proper bargain .Staff was amazing view was amazing of the cathedral out the bedroom window .Gym was excellent overall 10/10 Breakfast was amazing really clean hotel great location
Review 13:Lovely to be so close to the cathedral and the older area of the city and very useful to have been able to leave the car in the car park for the morning.
Review 14:Breakfast. The bacon was very good but the rest of the cooked food wasn't warm, there was no hot water to make tea although this was brought when asked and no milk jugs only a large jug on the boiler table.
Review 15:Ideal location
Review 16:Breakfast was appalling no space to sit had to sit in lobby to eat. Food was cold, no choice of eggs -scrambled or none excuses given that everyone came down together..
Review 17:Evening meal in Green Room Restaurant was excellent. View of Cathedral floodlit was very good.
Review 18:Staff a little bit unorganised. A small dispute between them at 23.00 hrs. Felt sorry for the young man on reception as he was unfamiliar with serving drinks.
Review 19:Easy to drive too. Near bars and restaurants. Decore was good, drinks not to expensive and breakfast was great. Room very comfortable and quiet. Hotel was busy with a Christmas party and ther were lots of guests for a wedding on the Bank holiday Monday. Would go back.
Review 20:Travelled as part of a group for a family event, staff couldn't have been more helpful, were attentive without being overbearing would definitely recommend
Review 21:Look of hotel bit sixties and most internal fairly bland
Review 22:Fantastically close to old town, cathedral and castle, comfortable accommodation, nice breakfast, parking
Review 23:Noise from lift as room directly next to it. After first night we asked if could move to different room and this was accommodated.
Review 24:Great location with car park. Staff were very pleasant.
Review 25:the bathroom floor was covered with paint spots and the bath rather old and soiled. Also, the soft furnishings grubby and a lot of dust missed by housekeeping. Having just got back from USA I found the twin room on the small size for the money. Constant humming of dishwashers interrupted sleep. Stay disrupted by party reveller throwing up outside door - housekeeping very good clearing up the corridor.
Review 26:We liked the location of the hotel - near to old Lincoln. The staff were friendly and the breakfast good with plenty of variety.
Review 27:It was disappointing that, between our two visits, the previously excellent breakfast had become entirely self service. The urn of coffee was almost cold; an urn of water was provided to make tea but no tea bags; on request, some anonymous bags were provided and when my wife asked for peppermint tea, ONE bag was produced.
Review 28:This was our second stay in four weeks at The Lincoln Hotel. Last time we had a standard room with no view; this time we paid extra for a Cathedral view - much better!
Review 29:Really unimpressed with the room I was allocated, I looked on the web site and the photos of the room showed a new clean re-furbed type room with plenty of space, double room with a view. What I received was a very tired, small, badly designed room, I spoke to the duty manager at the time but she could not help and did not seem that interested as a function was happening to take her attention!
Review 30:Car parking was good if you got in early, Wifi good and location was great
Review 31:Car park was convenient, and the options at Breakfast were fantastic. As well as the usual buffet table with cereals, fruit, yoghurts etc, there was salmon & mackerel. If you wanted an alternative to the full English breakfast buffet, they also offered specific requests.
Review 32:was booked in for dinner on a Sunday arrived just few minutes early no one about reported back to reception twice before someone was found and allowed us to start our dinner a definite bad point n spoiled the evening was looking forward to a quiet but good dinner with excellent service
Review 33:location parking and ease of use staff in general helpful n friendly
Review 34:Hotel decor a little tired in places. No problems
Review 35:Great location. Came for Christmas market and could leave car in car park at hotel to enjoy the city on foot. Lovely view of hotel from room. Good half board deal.
Review 36:We cut our stay short by one day. No refund was offered at a cost of £86 to us. This was due to a death in the family, but the staff seemed unsympathetic to this.
Review 37:Comfortable room with everything needed for a nice stay.
Review 38:There was no room service available and on the Saturday night no meals available at 10pm as the chefs had left at 9pm. Lack of toilet rolls and teabags in the rooms.
Review 39:The reception and breakfast staff are efficient with a friendly, courteous manner. The hotel is opposite the Cathedral in a nice part of town with good restaurants, cafes and shops.
Review 40:We stayed 3 days with no change of towels or bed linen. We had to ask for toilet rolls and teabags as not enough were in the rooms. The shower area wasn't cleaned on one day. We wanted a meal at 10pm but were told the chefs had left at 9pm.
Review 41:The location was perfect, opposite the Cathedral and in a good part of town; the staff we encountered were efficient and charming.
Review 42:The room was cold and the decor was drab. The food at breakfast was okay however it was brought to the table before we had finished our first course
Review 43:Excellent location for cathedral and castle.
Review 44:Noise from the Wedding disco Location of the breakfast buffet it has changed and not user friendly now Will NOT stay here again after coming for several years Rooms expensive
Review 45:Friendly staff
Review 46:1. The architecture of the hotel is very disappointing, contrasting fiercely with the magnificent cathedral opposite. 2. After a two hour car journey, it was frustrating to have to wait 28 minutes to check-in, as "check-in is from 2 pm" and we arrived at 1.32. 3. The otherwise very good restaurant was very cold (in November). Two potential diners left without ordering, for this reason. I went to our room for a sweater - not a garment that I would choose when dining out.
Review 47:1. The location is excellent, directly opposite the historic cathedral. 2. The bedroom was not spacious but the bed - and pillows (often uncomfortable even in expensive hotels) were very comfortable. 3. On site parking was a key factor in choosing this hotel, as it is not available at several hotels in Lincoln.
Review 48:There had been a problem with my booking as they initially sent me a confirmation of a double room when I had actually booked a twin, but I emailed them to amend this and they said it had been sorted. Upon arrival this wasn't the case, as they still had us down for a double. They sent us to a twin room which was spare, but when we got there we found that the toilet seat was unscrewed and waiting for repair. We rang the desk and within 10 minutes the duty manager arrived. She then moved us again, this time to a family room, and fortunately this was fine. All in all it was a bit of a hassle, but they did respond quickly and I suppose we ended up in a bigger room, so it worked out okay. The front of the hotel is also quite dated.
Review 49:The location was very convenient for Lincoln's historic town centre, the staff were all lovely, and the breakfast was great.
Review 50:The lift was a health and safety risk i.e. the doors closed three times when I was leaving it banging my arm even though I left immediately it stopped. I reported the fault and it was obvious they knew about the problem. Also, I appreciate they were doing some renovations, but having to order fried eggs and then having to go to the buffet for the rest of the hot breakfast was unacceptable. Also at breakfast the cold meats, cheese were not kept in a chilled area. The tables and chairs in the Long Room were badly chipped and the carpet frayed - I could go on and on!
Review 51:The location
Review 52:Wedding taking place at arrival time and reception taken up with guests. We had to sit amongst the wedding party waiting to book in.Surely they could have had a private area.Reception area not particularly clean.Balcony wall covered in green lichen.
Review 53:Room cleaned to a good standard.
Review 54:Had crumbs on the hotel room carpet and the room smelt abit musty
Review 55:Great where the hotel is situated, near by the cathedral, near to the town.. Easy access front and rear, very private and great wifi, husband was very pleased and commented about the comfy bed...
Review 56:Not really bad,but coming down to breakfast to an almost empty room with window tables available and being told that they were laid for 4 so as 2 we couldn't sit there
Review 57:All public rooms had a Cathedral view and it was minutes to the vibrant Uphill area with its shops and restaurants.Breakfast was a good varied buffet
Review 58:The overall feel of the place was a bit shabby and a touch run down and maybe slightly understaffed. When I went to checkout, I waited for ten minutes and no one ever showed up.
Review 59:Loved the location--beautiful spot. I ate at the hotel restaurant and the food was wonderful as was the breakfast the next morning.
Review 60:sharing the dining room at breakfast time with rowdy wedding guests - noisy and food having to be replenished rapidly!!
Review 61:friendly staff and comfortable room for a standard room
Review 62:The only thing that let this hotel down was one older lady employee who was grumpy with a face like thunder at breakfast on both mornings! - I would let her go if I was the hotel.
Review 63:The location was great for exploring Lincoln especially the magnificent Cathedral. The staff on reception were welcoming and helpful. We had a quiet twin room at the back of the hotel and the bed was very comfortable indeed. Breakfast was good and my friend and I really enjoyed our stay.
Review 64:No soap, shower gel etc. left one day but quickly sorted when mentioned to reception
Review 65:Onsite Parking Good breakfast selection, food kept hot and replaced regularly
Review 66:Due to the glass wall, the view of the crumpled curtains trapped against a window as you arrive from the car park is off putting, and certainly doesn't reflect the high standards evident once inside. Easily put right I'm sure.
Review 67:The food and service in the Green Room was exceptional, though this could easily be extended to the entire team we met on our stay. It was plain to see that polite, approachable customer service is high on the agenda in this cracking gem of a hotel. Every effort was made to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.
Review 68:Room colour scheme & a need for refurbishment. Noise from kitchen air duct. However we noticed that this was being altered the day we left with new pipes/ducting that will hopefully rectify this.
Review 69:The location and good car parking facility
Review 70:Poor housekeeping in the bathroom. Tap broke off in my hand! Could have been cleaner. But as said, the staff couldn't have dealt with the problems better.
Review 71:Excellent staff. Friendly and quick to react to a couple of issues.
Review 72:Staff not very helpful reception staff directed us to wrong part of hotel on check in asked another member of staff who shrugged they didn't know so had to find 3rd member of staff who finally showed us to our room at the other end of hotel. On checkout delayed whilst 2 members of staff dealt with one customer. Breakfast waited to be seated then staff member disappeared so made own way to table. Car park full due to wedding fair no room for residents to park.
Review 73:Location excellent - room clean and comfortable.
Review 74:Shower door badly designed so ended up with a lake on bathroom floor!! To get down to main high street shops requires steep hill - may not be suitable for some.
Review 75:Location good, close enough to town but far enough not noisy. Good breakfast
Review 76:No dinner dining facilities for residents - there was a wedding party in on both nights we stayed. Suggest when the one dining room is used for a private party the 67 Bar be made more inviting (e.g. tables and chairs) with an acceptable menu rather than remaining as a drinking bar with a poor variety of snacks. (The only 'meal' served was fish and chips costing over !3.00) So, if staying at the Lincoln Hotel make sure you have booked somewhere in the Bail area - if you want to eat in the evening.
Review 77:The staff from reception to dining (breakfast) have changed from a year ago and 'what an improvement!'. All pleasant and could not have been more helpful in every way.
Review 78:There was a Bridal Fayre on when we arrived and reception staff were more interested in that than dealing with guests wanting to check in. Also, I'd requested a room with a view of the Cathedral but we were given a room at the back with a view of a brick wall - very disappointing for visitors from Australia. Disappointing breakfast
Review 79:Proximity to Cathedral
Review 80:n/a
Review 81:I enjoyed everything about this hotel from the minute I arrived. The young lady on reception, Lauren, was both helpful and informative. I noted that with every arrival, including myself, she handled with a welcoming smile, even though it was virtually the same information each time. Lauren also ably attended the adjoining bar/lounge area. The restaurant staff were equally welcoming at breakfast also, nothing was to much trouble.
Review 82:Fantastic location and room on first floor very quiet and comfortable. Breakfast included in price was very tasty and plenty of choice. All staff were very friendly and helpful !! Some building work/improvements were ongoing adjacent to reception although this did not spoil or impinge on our stay in any way. We had a very enjoyable stay and can only commend everyone involved.
Review 83:Had requested early booking in time between 11am - 12. Earliest booking in time was 2pm. They didn't take any notice of booking.com site for early book in's. No booking in till 2pm at the earliest. Also when we did finally get to the room there was no wardrobe. What was there instead? 3 hooks with a total of 3 coat hangers on them. Pretty dismal for a hotel of that size. Just as well we weren't staying longer than a couple of nights.
Review 84:Central Location opposite the Cathedral. Ideal for wake-up at 7am when bells/chimes began again. Not far from Castle and top of Steep Hill.
Review 85:The entrance lounge / bar area was rather impersonal.
Review 86:Very central and convenient location with parking. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Breakfast excellent. Overall good value
Review 87:Nothing.
Review 88:The hotel was in an excellent location. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good with a wide selection available. We would stay here again.
Review 89:Not sure the bed had been made properly after our first night, the bathroom floor had not been swept.
Review 90:Staff very helpful. Excellent breakfast. Very good location.
Review 91:The noise from weddings and children running around un supervised playing with the lift so we couldn't get in it for some time. Also the only accessible door to the rear of the hotel is locked early and staff do not respond to ringing the bell I had to go round the front and tell them.
Review 92:Perfect location, I was with my friend who is a wheelchair user and we loved the adjoining rooms as we could relax together and the breakfast staff were lovely.
Review 93:Breakfast could do with being a bit hotter, the food was a little on the cool side and we were down pretty handy as well.
Review 94:it was excellent, we have booked again for next year.
Review 95:Service slipped slightly at breakfast when it was very busy
Review 96:Feels safe as a lone traveller Staff generally friendly and helpful Soundproofing good - no noise from wedding party despite room being relatively near
Review 97:Not a bad experience exactly, but using the lifts was made slower by children attending a wedding riding up and down them for fun. A lift door also closed early on my arm, so the sensor did not seem to work properly all the time.
Review 98:Location and car parking.
Review 99:Wedding after wedding smoking 'outside' the main entrance under the roof. Not only did the reception area stink of cigarettes, for 3 days we had to push past rude, loud, drunk, sweary smokers who were blocking the main entrance. Wedding guests screaming at their kids outside our window.
Review 100:Location. Balcony - hate hotel rooms where you cantopen the windows. Parking. Friendly staff.
Review 101:The noisy Air Con (again) which broke out into full blast heat at 3am. No facilities other than the Gents toilet, to get changed for an 11am function at the Cathedral.
Review 102:Location
Review 103:Insufficient information in the room regarding both the hotel facilities and the local area. Both dinner menus need a serious re-think.
Review 104:Located just where we wanted to be. Pleasant and helpful staff. Breakfast good, tasty, varied and hot.
Review 105:Bar meals after 5pm, only available in 60's retro bar. Which is like a black dungeon, painted black and purple, badly lit. Not where we would like to eat. Went elsewhere.
Review 106:location of hotel
Review 107:Corridors were a bit dark and dismal with a strange smell, carpets could do with replacing.
Review 108:The staff were fabulous, always smiling and very helpful.well stocked ,tasty breakfast.
Review 109:Weekend wedding parties can be rowdy when many guests stay overnight after a whole day of celebrating! It does have the feel somwhat of a 1970s property.
Review 110:Excellent location for Cathedral, Castle, local hopper bus, and local pubs, restaurants.
Review 111:The elevator had a funny smell to it. The bathroom was very basic and rather run down.
Review 112:Location was lovely - opposite the cathedral. Very easy to find. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 113:there really isn't anything to dislike
Review 114:The hotel is in a perfect location right across from the cathedral and there's plenty of bars and restaurants in the area without having to go down to the waterfront area. The staff are incredible being both attentive and friendly and the breakfasts are superb.
Review 115:I travelled with my daughter for her Graduation from the University, the location was therefore excellent. Room was comfortable and the Staff all seemed genuinely happy to help and happy in their work. Enjoyed the food too.
Review 116:we waited 25 minutes for an iron to be told it had been delivered. It had not been delivered went downstairs and said must have delivered to another room which we knew it had not either as was our other room. It was a very important day and this but a damper on it as the person had to go with creased clothes as couldn't wait any longer.
Review 117:There wasn't anything to dislike.
Review 118:Location was excellent, staff helpful, room comfortable, breakfast a bonus and parking included. Overall perfect.
Review 119:The hotel felt a little run down in parts. The lift isn't in the best condition and we didn't think that overall it warranted over £100 a night but then I suppose we were probably paying for location.
Review 120:Great location and views. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was nice too. Good that there was free parking for guests too.
Review 121:Outdoor wedding venue moved to indoor venue due to poor weather. We felt desperately sad for both wedding parties on two consecutive days but the reception area is not big enough for both hotel guests and wedding parties.
Review 122:The staff could not have been more helpful during a very busy weekend.
Review 123:Inter- connecting doors in bedroom meant that conversations & other noise in the adjoining room were easily heard. Also on checking out the receptionist omitted to ask if we had enjoyed our stay, a little thing, but always nice!
Review 124:Location was perfect for our trip, and for the price, it was an excellent choice. Breakfast very good. Comfort and cleanliness of the rooms was first class. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 125:The room we were allocated was rather noisy throughout the night. Mentioned it to staff and was told it was an extractor fan. Had to keep window closed to dull noise.
Review 126:This place was well positioned for the event we were attending. Easy waking distance to castle and shops. No hills
Review 127:we asked for quiet rooms, however the rooms allocated were on an upper floor at the back, when we opened our windows for fresh air as there is no air conditioning the smell of the food being prepared in the kitchens wafted into our rooms and I don't like to smell of cooking fat to be honest so we had to keep all the windows closed ,which made the room very stuffy. There was a wedding booked on the Sunday when we arrived , hence the hotel was very busy in the evening with extremely drunk guests , children unsupervised running up and down corridors till very late, lots of swearing and not the sort of behaviour we as family like to be around , therefore when we got home after our evening meal at 10pm we couldn't sit in the lovely lounge area for a drink and a chat , we had to go to our stuffy room, thank god we could purchase a glass of wine from the bar and take it to our rooms .Not really the stay we had in mind when we booked for a quiet break and not worth the money we paid, if you exclude the lovely staff this hotel and the restaurant is not much better than a premier inn to be honest. probarbly would not book here again.
Review 128:location of the hotel was good with a free car park, we had 2 double bedrooms which were compact but adequate and had what we needed, I also asked for extra pillows which were given , staff were friendly and helpful and the bar at reception was open till late which was good for an evening tipple after a long day walking round the city and sight seeing.
Review 129:Showers need upgrading (2 settings - off and torrential, if you've ever water jetted your driveway - you get the picture) Stairs to upper floors need a lot more lighting TVs need retuning.
Review 130:Very convenient for Castle and Cathedral Car park well lit and secure (can't get car out without PIN issued at Reception)
Review 131:Cathedral bells lol. But hey if you stay next to it then you should expect chiming.
Review 132:Really close to the cathedral and lovely Places to eat. We were at a wedding and it was really convenient for the ceremony at the Castle.
Review 133:There wer stains on the walls in the room as well as on the towels. There were tags on the floor from others that stayed before as well as my boyfriend finding another woman's make up under the bed which was not mine.
Review 134:The entrance was well maintained and looked neat and tidy. The staff were nice and helpful too.
Review 135:Outside needs attention. Tall people could easily hit head on projection on righthand corner or building on way to car park. Also children playing in front area could easily fall through metal bars down into deep rocky area. Also we would have eaten in the hotel on one of our nights but as there were wedding parties on both nights which we didn't know about until arrival, we ate out in the town both nights.
Review 136:Excellent location. Comfortable room.
Review 137:The pillows were uncomfortable and hard. The bathroom had not been cleaned properly, there were hairs in the bath, sink and toilet seat! The hotel was badly in need of decorating and smelled dirty. I had one glass of white wine at the bar. I wouldn't drink another one as the choice and quality of wines was poor. The price was extortionate compared to the quality and service provided.
Review 138:The bed was comfortable.
Review 139:Great location opposite Lincoln Cathedral. Ideal location to catch "RIDE & WALK" mini bus which for £3 pp for a day ticket is easily the best way to see Lincoln
Review 140:This is a very pleasant hotel at the top of the hill next to the Cathedral. Don't miss out on the breakfast - best I've enjoyed in a long time.
The Fine Print
Wheelchair access can be found to the rear of the hotel, with an elevator to the main reception floor.During the Christmas and New Year period, some noise from the function rooms may be audible in some rooms.
