Reviews for The Copley Arms

Review 1:Nothing!

Review 2:Staff very friendly, and helpful. Kirsty top barmaid. Tenant's Mike & Di any probs they will sort it for you, just ask. Food was excellent, outstanding breakfast :-)

Review 3:The whole place had a tired, unkempt look, with rubbish in the fireplace, instead of a welcoming fire. The bar food was below average. Our bathroom was across a landing and through another very noisy door, far from ideal as it could be accessed by other guests. We booked it as an en-suite!

Review 4:The breakfast was very good.

Review 5:Wht does the address on Bookings show as East Looe when it is at Hessenford? Bedroom and bath needs updating.

Review 6:Good selection and quality of food. Make sure you have a good appetite !

Review 7:The owners were apparently away on holiday during our stay, leaving the Copley in the excellent care of their Son and Daughter [in law] This young couple were not only a credit to their parents but the hospitality industry; going out of their way to make us feel welcome!

Review 8:Friendly & helpful staff. Other customers, including locals, also very friendly. Location suited us for visiting friends & other family members living in Devon/Cornwall.

Review 9:too many dogs in the bar

Review 10:The staff from owner to bar person was really friendly you could have your breakfast at a time that suited you plenty of parking customers were friendly as well just a very pleasant time very good value

Review 11:The address advertised on the booking.com web site was Fore Street East Looe. but the actual location is Hessenford (4 miles away). I raised the question of location within 24hours of booking the accommodation and had to wait the best part of 4 months for the hotel to confirm the actual location was not in Looe. This was then too late to arrange an alternative booking.

Review 12:The staff were very good, and the breakfast with Cornish bacon was ever better.

Review 13:Driving a new & larger car round some of the satnav roads......

Review 14:Very friendly, very helpful...good food and drink. Worth the driving (see opp)

Review 15:My husband is 6.5 so the bed was a little small for him, however it did not spoil our holiday.

Review 16:The Copley Arms was comfortable set in a beautiful village. Very clean, welcoming staff and fantastic home cooked food - overall this was extremely good value for money and I would highly recommend this place to stay.

Review 17:The bathroom for our room was on the landing described as having its own private bathroom and not great if you needed it during the night (although they provided a dressing gown!)

Review 18:Food was good, room was nice. Nice setting in a quiet village, would be a good place to stay in the summer due to it having a lovely little stream running through it with a decking seating area next to it.

Review 19:Bella was welcoming and helpful as the receptionist and happy and attentive later behind the bar. She was very cheerful with all the customers. Bella would be an asset to any business. We were greeted in the morning by the landlord who was most helpful and produced the best and tastiest full English breakfast that we have ever had.

Review 20:Room a little on the small side but still very good value for money.

Review 21:Good location, easy parking, friendly staff, good food morning and evening, short drive to nearby towns and beaches.

Review 22:No phone signal but that's not too bad if your there for a break

Review 23:The staff were friendly and the pub was comfortable. Only there one night during heavy rain when the river was in flood. The pub beer and food was good. Clean and comfortable room WiFi wasn't great and no phone signal due to area very hilly. I would go there again.

Review 24:Lovely location, food was excellent (both evening meal and breakfast). The room was very spacious and comfortable. All the staff were very friendly and helpful at all times.excellent value for money.

Review 25:The room was very hot - the fan did not work. The shower was linked to the taps only so no decent water pressure. The bed was uncomfortable after the first night.

Review 26:Breakfast choices were really good and freshly made.

Review 27:Set on a small river in quiet village. Olde world type premise run by very kind caring people. The staff most happy and helpful. Breakfast lovely as was evening meal.

Review 28:Need a curtain in the bathroom not a complaint just an advisory bathroom lovely and everything clean just privacy issue potentially

Review 29:Very friendly excellent food

Review 30:Bathroom out of bedroom across public hallway. Bath robe behind door obviously not washed after previous guest.

Review 31:Being able to stay in the vicinity we were travelling in. Friendly

Review 32:Anybody who experienced any difficulty here would be really trying in every sense of the word and deserve to inhabit the far corners of the world - and I would assist them in their endeavours.

Review 33:Owner/staff availability - informality - instant 'can-do'

Review 34:The en-suite was in a separate building, across a stair well, and for me with disabled hands and having to open 2 heavy fire doors, was a problem, especially during the night.

Review 35:private bathroom across public landing into main hallway would not have stayed there if I had known. pub too far off the beaten track

Review 36:beautiful setting when you finally get to the Copley arms

Review 37:The place is a mess, especially the manager's office which is very off-putting. The hallway to the bedrooms is cluttered with junk. The pub smells of smoke, the carpets are tatty and the furniture is old and grubby. They are wildly over staffed yet still the service is pretty poor. They use local produce but burned the food. They could easily have a lovely pub with rooms but they desperately need new management.

Review 38:The bedding and towels were very crisp and fresh. The location was good. The outside is pretty. The breakfast was generous.

Review 39:Found the bed too small for two. Let down by the details of maintenance and tidiness in public areas that could easily be corrected.

Review 40:Beautiful location and good breakfast.

Review 41:We were disappointed that the "private bathroom" of our twin room was across the landing through two doors and couldn't be locked from the outside, so was actually open to all (luckily we were the only guests). Our room (5) was at the top of the stairs leading up from the pub and was quite noisy as family and staff came up and down.

Review 42:The breakfast was brilliant and the staff were very friendly. Our evening meal was also excellent and the beer was kept perfectly.

Review 43:The staff didn't want to take us to our room, wasn't felt welcome. Breakfast wasn't open at the time we were told and were left outside in the cold for almost an hour. We were given a refund and instead charged twice £110 in total was taken out of our bank

Review 44:Food was excellent, couldn't of made it nicer myself

Review 45:Hard to locate. Not in Looe as advertised No reception, had to wait in bar until someone was free. Had to walk through bar with our luggage, found out later there was private entrance and park. Some muddle over private bathroom We had private facilites and someone else was using them. Waited a long time for dinner ( an hour) and then My daughter food was great and mine was pretty poorly cooked and presented.

Review 46:Bed, room, staff all good. TWIN bed which was great for my adult daughter and myself Not expensive Very very good breakfast

Review 47:Access to rooms via pub needs tidying up. Bathroom looking tired. Wifi somewhat intermittent.

Review 48:Good location for visiting other parts of Cornwall. Good breakfast included. Reasonably priced restaurant with choice of pub food. Friendly staff in pub.

Review 49:The only downside of our stay was the work going on outside in the carpark to prevent flood damage. It would have been nice to sit by the river and have a drink outside. We will definitely visit again when the work is completed so we can do just that!

Review 50:A Secret Escape Tucked away in a small valley in Hessenford near Liskeard in Cornwall lies The Copley Arms, an ideal place for travellers to rest their weary heads. The pub is situated beside a river and is perfectly located to visit the nearby fishing villages of Looe and Polperro. We stayed only one night but would definitely stay again. The room was spacious and clean with a large en-suite bathroom. We enjoyed a perfect evening meal in the restaurant and an amazing full English breakfast the following morning (sorry, full Cornish breakfast) :-)

Review 51:Mobile signal weak Wifi not a success ,host is working to improve this.

Review 52:Excellent food , breakfast served at a time to suit the guest , willing and pleasant staff ample parking space . The bed was clean and comfortable.

Review 53:Room ok.but not up to ST Austell Inn usual standard.Steep stairs to room. Packets of soap powder and toilet rolls stored on stairs.

Review 54:Good food,friendly staff,good location

Review 55:Cleaning leaves something to be desired and the crop of spider webs around the rooms and abundance of flies in the dining room were annoying. No WIFI except in certain key locations in the dining room - and no mobile phone reception at all in or around the hotel.

Review 56:A charming old fashioned Inn with bags of character and good food that made it difficult for residents to get a table in the dining room at times when people appear to come from miles around to eat.

Review 57:Just a little lacking in customer service. Not a very good first impression for customers to access the accommodation. Birds muck from birds nesting outside the window +++ very off putting.wi fi useless!.Needs more attention to detail.

Review 58:Lovely country pub in a good location .Room was clean with a comfy bed.Good breakfast

Review 59:on arrival had to wait to check in .. lots of boxes and bags under stairs as you walk your room.. trouble with telly but landlord did sort this out .. Hoovering while having breakfast not very relaxing ..

Review 60:Young girl behind bar very friendly.. breakfast was very good .. ok for one night

Review 61:Everything was good.

Review 62:Room 3 is comfortable and clean with a large bathroom. The water was piping hot with great pressure. We had a wonderful nights sleep and sumptuous breakfast the next morning. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 63:Location, quality of food and friendly staff. Excellent value for money. Would definitely stay again when in this area of Cornwall. So handy for trips to Looe, Polperro, Fowey etc. Many thanks to Mike and his staff. Peter & Sheila (Solihull, West Midlands)

Review 67:Friendly staff, Good food. Accommodation was excellent value for money. Nice location.

Review 68:the stairs to our room very narrow and tiny there were three boxes of washing powder at bottom. Our bathroom was across a landing and though two doors you had to remember the door key or locked yourself out this was not good in the middle of the night but we got though it.

Review 69:staff were very nice

Review 70:Too hot in the room, I mentioned to the owner that an electric fan would be a good addition, ( there is a heat wave at the moment).

Review 71:The Inn has charachter and a nice big car park. room was comfortable. Good WiFi signal :)

Review 72:Difficult getting bags upstairs Had own bathroom but it was not accessible directly from our room Lock on door needed fixing so you could get back in without the key after using the bathroom

Review 73:Setting - lovely village setting. Lovely gardens, planting around the hotel Plenty of parking available Good size comfortable room Pleasant staff Great breakfast included

Review 74:Our booking was a late one unfortunately we had the last available room the only one without an en-suite but a private bathroom .when we go again we will book earlier

Review 75:The copley was very homely were made to feel welcome.breakfasts were very good .also ate there in the evening meal was really good ,choices great, from everyday budget to meals for special occasions.traditional ale was a bonus would definitely visit again

Review 76:Bathroom was not en-suite. Bedroom décor was 80's pine of cheap quality. Place was untidy, junk stored in view of guests etc. Restaurant was ok but really 'Chips with everything' level. Needs decorating.

Review 77:Room was clean, plenty of parking, breakfast ok. Staff friendly.
