Reviews for The Pyewipe
Review 1:Location - long dark lane needs to be lite better, breakfast was average and the breakfast room was very cold
Review 2:Bed was comfy and room was clean, plenty of tea and coffe facilities and staff were very polite and friendly
Review 3:It's worth booking a table for dinner in advance as the restaurant was fully booked when we checked in (good bar meals though!)
Review 4:We enjoyed our stay at the Pyewipe - the room was comfortable, food was very good, and it was a lovely canal-side location about 20 mins walk from Lincoln centre
Review 5:Our bed squeaked and creaked, luckily not on my side! The shower was useless. We were in the lodge and had the room nearest the main road. Although we couldn't see it we certainly heard it.
Review 6:The location is second to none. The staff are lovely. The rooms are clean if a little dated. The breakfast was good.
Review 7:Parking outside the lodge - spaces too small!
Review 8:Very helpful and attentive staff. Room was a good size & well appointed. Bed comfortable, bathroom clean. Lovely setting.
Review 9:Didn't stay long enough lol!
Review 10:Rooms for fantastic, staff very happy & polite, the view in day & night was gorgous:) definitely coming again!
Review 11:Shame it's not about half a mile closer to town but that's only because I have slight mobility problems. The 1 mile walk is fine for able bodied guests.
Review 12:Nice location next to canal with plenty of parking. Good selection of ale and very good food. Rooms in block nice and quiet.
Review 13:They really should illuminate the sign for the hotel at the entry on the roadside. It is a very busy road and it is easy to miss the sign and go right past it. A better make up light in the bedroom for the ladies.
Review 14:Efficient & friendly staff. Good Food at a good price. Comfortable room.
Review 15:Good location by the canal, a pleasant 30 - 45 minute stroll to the city. Lodge was set back away from the bar/restaurant so very quiet. Food was good.
Review 16:Nothing to dislike.
Review 17:Loved the surroundings it was lovely and quiet very relaxing. The food was very nice and the staff very friendly and helpful. We definately be back and recommend to friends.
Review 18:Mirrors in disabled friendly bathroom set at wheelchair height and not very practical for someone over 6'
Review 19:Nice spacious room with views over open fields to city. Good powerful shower with plenty of hot water.
Review 20:Warm and friendly, lovely food in a handy location. Our spacious room was at the rear of the building with an open view towards Lincoln Cathedral. Great location for visiting Bransby Horses and Doddington Hall.
Review 21:Beds unmade Bathroom floor unswept Due to traffic we rang to say Our predicament & would arrive after mealtime no offer of any sandwich etc Arrived 11pm. -- 7 1/2 hrs on Road
Review 22:Food excellent Really nice location Helpful breakfast staff
Review 23:unfortunately we were kept awake during a wet night by the very noisy overflow from faulty guttering hitting the window
Review 24:Enjoyed our meals and ambience of the bar?restaurant
Review 25:I've stayed a few times now and the menu for vegetarians stays the same. As there's only three options, this is a bit limiting. Can you add some new items? And there's never vegetarian sausages for breakfast - even travelodge has these!
Review 26:location is nice and convenient for us, and the rooms are comfortable.
Review 27:Lovely location, friendly staff, good value rooms - we always stay at the Pyewipe and wouldn't consider stopping anywhere else when we visit Lincoln.
Review 28:The Pyewipe is situated right on the canal and is a pleasant half hour walk into Lincoln. The room was not luxurious but had everything you would want, the shower worked well and the bed was comfortable. The pub sells pretty good pub grub.
Review 29:Very poor signage off the Main A46 and roundabouts.. Also could do with a better access road so you don't feel your driving down a farm track!!
Review 30:Once you arrive from under the Bypass all looks great good location next to canal.
Review 31:The ground floor rooms overlooking the car park need more privacy at the windows. Signposting needs to be better or clearer instructions on line for entry to hotel from the A46.
Review 32:The friendly atmosphere. Helpful staff, Excellent restaurant in the evening. Excellent restaurant. Ease with which to walk into the town centre along the canl side. Quiet, comfortable rooms.
Review 33:the lane leading to the hotel, would be better if either wider or one way in and another out other than that no complaints
Review 34:location very good lovely setting, staff very helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble
Review 35:Location, 30 min walk into Lincoln along canal side. Room was functional at best, The bathroom was barrack-style basic; not in any way could I call it homely.
Review 36:Excellent food in the bar. Compliments to the chef.
Review 37:driving to Pyewipe in the dark down a very narrow country lane with passing places a bit scary as not lit.
Review 38:Friendly staff, enjoyed fantastic breakfast overlooking canal
Review 39:The entrance lane can be a little challenging at a busy time. The food can become boring if you are there multiple days.
Review 40:Wonderful staff, comfortable lodge, location near Lincoln and Newark, fun pub.
Review 41:The pyewipe is a old charactor pub. We never ate there, the board looked good quite expensive..£25.00for a steak. Don't think your accomodation is in the pub, it is across the way, looks like a old peoples home. You get your own key through the front door and your room. Lots of parking. Take your own pillows, as I did, as there pillows are very very flat and old. They do need replacing. Wouldn't stay here again unless I was desperate. They guy behing the pub when you check in could do with a smile lift..
Review 42:Convenient location, short taxi drive into the city. Taxi range from £5.30 to £7.80. Clean rooms .
Review 43:No water in the morning no ones fault just one of those unfortunate things.
Review 44:Staff very accommodating and tried their hardest to sort out the problem with the water providing bottled and giving money back on our stay without even being asked too.
Review 45:As always the staff are very friendly, the Pyewipe is always excellent value, location is picturesque. We have stopped here many times and when visiting Lincoln wouldn't consider stopping anywhere else.
Review 46:No mention of location - the fact that access to the pyewipe was via a half mile long single lane track with several speed humps. Very difficult to negotiate in the dark!
Review 47:evening meals were excellent, staff very friendly, setting by the river lovely although would not be so good in bad weather!
Review 48:Would have been nice if the bar had a TV showing the Rugby World Cup.
Review 49:Rooms were clean and tidy. Bar had good food. Nice location by the river. Would stay again
Review 50:Disappointing breakfast; no cooked option for vegetarians despite having made a request at time of booking. The breakfast menu did seem a little limited.
Review 51:Fantastic location, peaceful and the wildlife was excellent to observe. A real bonus to observe the Red Arrows practicing in the area too!!
Review 52:Thin white bread for toast.
Review 53:Fantastic location - lovely 25 min walk along navigation canal path into Lincoln (no traffic or parking worries). Good breakfast - perfect scrambled eggs - would have liked granary or wholemeal toast though. Enjoyed a delicious evening meal on the pub's restaurant.
Review 54:Somewhat difficult to find as we were not able to access the directions sent to us via email. A phone call solved this.
Review 55:Very helpful staff. Good breakfast
Review 56:Nothing to not like. It's a lovely pub with delicious food.
Review 57:We had a large room with pleasant furnishings. The bed was very high! There were 2 comfy chairs, and everything looked fresh and clean. The stairs could have used a good hoovering as we noticed a few bits of litter and a hairgrip when we arrived and they were there when we left 2 days later,
Review 58:Not a criticism of the hotel - TomTom GPS takes you to a turning 300 yds away from the correct one - judging by the notice left by these poor neighbours this happens quite a lot.
Review 59:Nice situation in fields and on canal towpath, yet only 2+ miles from Lincoln centre. Large room & en-suite. Good food and helpful staff.
Review 60:The staff were brilliant. There had been a problem with the water supply so they tried to contact us. We had left home so on our arrival we were offered 50% discount as rooms had no running water. Food in the evening was delicious.
Review 61:the drive from the main road to the hotel is a bit hit and miss , with a single track most of the way with few passing points, could be awkward on busy days.
Review 62:excellent location on the canal, staff very good, food excellent , rooms adaquate for the price.
Review 63:No fruit or tomato juice on offer at breakfast. Wifi was not accessible.
Review 64:Value for money in a pleasant spot outside Lincoln by the canal/river. Tea/ coffee with biscuits in a comfortable clean ensure room. Breakfast was fine and staff were very pleasant - good pub restaurant for lunch or dinner.
Review 65:Satnav did not take us to the location from the postcode and was therfore slightly awkward to find.
Review 66:The room looked better than expected, as I thought the website rooms we saw looked dated , however this was not the case. The food was good. Overall experience from our stay was good and would be hard to beat, even if you paid more. The staff were friendly, professional and very helpful.
Review 67:No local brewey beers on sale. Some of the furnishings are a little tired.Early morning road noise at the back of the lodge could disturb some people. No yougurt at breakfast
Review 68:Great location for 1 night stopover or touring center for Lincolnshire in general.Evening meal was good value for money real country sized meals well cooked.Beds were big and very comfortable.Enjoyable evening drink watching the sunset and the boats on the canal.
Review 69:No water on first day. (electrical fault) The narrow road leading up to the hotel.
Review 70:First Class Menu, cooked to perfection. Attentive staff at all times. The beautiful surroundings.
Review 71:The staff were friendly and welcoming, the rooms were comfortable and even though, through no fault of their own, there was a burst water main in the morning which meant the showers were not working etc, the staff could not have been more helpful. I would certainly visit again. Lovely location by the canal!
Review 72:There was no water do couldn't shower which was disappointing as was my dons graduation day. Don't totally blame hotel was just bad timing.
Review 73:Area room and good food. Offered 50 per cent of our money back for inconvenience.
Review 74:Not really a complaint as my SatNav took me straight there but signage to the site appeared to just at the top of the lane. Easy to overrun if you are going too quick! Perhaps, local land owners permitting, an extra warning sign of the turning could help.
Review 75:Everything. The smiling welcome at check-in, the cleanliness of the room (I am a frequent traveler and even the bathroom smelled of perfume/cleaner!), the comfy bed, the ambiance of the restaurant, the helpfulness of waiting staff, the food was great and at a very realistic price. The landlady spent time with me after breakfast to give me helpful guidance on local villages as I was house-hunting. Highly recommended and I will definitely go back!
Review 76:We stayed at the lodge which is separated to the Hotel, this part of the property did not have wifi
Review 77:The hotel and location was excellent, staff and service unquestionable
Review 78:We have been going for 5 years in a row and we find it perfect to relax and unwind. Nice walk along the tow path takes you the centre of Lincoln. We love it.
Review 79:Location not great for anyone walking from the station/town centre - the inn is a 45-minute walk from cultural centre (and we walk quickly!) down a path which was totally unlit at night. Nearest shop probably 35 minutes down same unlit path. Vending machine on premesis would have been nice for this reason...
Review 80:Nice room, generous breakfast, friendly staff. Liked the kettle and tea in room.
Review 81:Our room was situated above the main entrance door and it was quite noisy as you had to slam the door to shut it. We told a member of staff who said they were aware of it and are fixing it.
Review 82:Lovely building located next to the river. Easy to get to and 5 mins from Lincoln City Centre.
Review 83:Wifi did not work in lodge, no bath just a shower.
Review 84:The food was excellent and table service was very prompt. Vegetarian menu adapted at request no problem at all.
Review 85:Address should be more specific. It is not in Saxilby but several miles further down road toward Lincoln at Fossdyke. Not everybody has GPS.
Review 86:Lovely location by canal, quiet country area. Walk to Lincoln along canal path would be great but we didn't have time. Would be good for a 2 night stay.
Review 87:Although a WIFI connection was established it was so poor and frustrating we could not use it for checking emails or skype conversations.
Review 88:Location and quality of staff attention
Review 89:Pyewipe's publicity suggested the city centre was a 20 min walk. As we wished to have dinner in town, we thought this was OK. However, it was a 40 min walk -- their estimate must be to the very fringe of the urban area.
Review 90:Pleasant site, good staff, good menu, nice breakfast.
Review 91:Would have appreciated a shower cap in the bathroom (minor point) and other milk rahter than whole. It was sad to see empty flower boxes along the front and a colourful display would have enhanced the property by 100%
Review 92:Loved the location and the rooms were excellent. The staff were good as it was extremely busy. The food was first class and four of us had superb meals.
Review 93:The Pywipe is in a lovely setting. The staff are very friendly and the room was large with a good view of the countryside and also Lincoln Cathedral could be seen peeping over the hill at night lit up.I thought the bed was really comfortable and the linen exceptional. We will definitely be back.
Review 94:Rather longer walk into town than we had been led to believe.
Review 95:Friendly and efficient staff. Good food. Well planned location lodge block, away from public garden and main building.
Review 96:The bathrooms need updating as there is mould beginning to form in them and they are not as sparking as our first visit!
Review 97:Spacious room with tea and coffee and biscuits ! Friendly staff and lovely location! Our fourth visit!
Review 98:Access road a little hairy in a big car....very narrow and passing places good but other drivers a little aggressive(chiefly a taxi who should have known better!)
Review 99:Location by canal, lovely staff, excellent menu, ample car parking, superb comfy bed, very clean room.
Review 100:The breakfast was very basic. Had the full english breakfast but not the choice of any cereal or fresh fruit or yogurts no offer of toast and jams
Review 101:The food in the resturant was brillant the position of the hotel great too not a 20 min walk into Lincoln as stated more like 40 mins
Review 102:Breakfast was in a dark room, that smelt strongly of beer on the first two mornings. We moved into a much better bar area that fronted on to the canal for the second two mornings. A great improvement!
Review 103:There were a few things wrong in the room. We told the lady serving breakfast, and they were fixed very promptly. Overall a spacious and comfortable room. Reasonably quiet, accommodation block separate from the pub.
Review 104:Lack of wi-fi in room, slippy shower in bath, nearly fell .
Review 105:Friendly helpful staff, nice room and in a nice location ,also to be able to relax with a drink by the waterside watching the boats go by .
Review 106:Evening staff could take a lesson in hospitality from the breakfast staff! Bothered by road noise because of having to keep windows open to get some air.
Review 107:Excellent dinner and breakfast. Great ales.
Review 108:Although the bar is a good location by the river, the menu and drinks are expensive and due to the location you can't really go anywhere else
Review 109:Very comfortable room with lots of space and very quiet
Review 110:Just the weather really, rained all day on our first day, but it didn't dampen our spirit. And nobody can change the weather.
Review 111:It was our first wedding anniversary and we were thrilled that the hotel + lodge was so nice + welcoming.
Review 112:Between 2 main roads, small windows in rooms, no Air Con. Accommodation block situated 100 yards across the car park from the pub. No WiFi in accommodation block. Not very clean, tables dusty and carpet not vacuumed.
Review 113:It was on the way home.
Review 114:For the price we couldn't fault it. We would highly recommend it to friends & family.
Review 115:We found all the staff friendly & helpful. We enjoyed a lovely lunch before walking along the canal into Lincoln. A very pleasant 40 minute walk to the cathederal. We were glad that we chose accommodation out of the city centre. No worries about finding parking,& apart from a bit of noise from the road, a peaceful spot for a relaxing break.
Review 116:No help yourself cereal, fruit etc. at breakfast. Cooked breakfast was fine just lacked the extra finesse.
Review 117:Room nicely furnished and quiet Staff friendly
Review 118:The breakfast and the fact that there was no mention when I booked that the sleeping accommodation was in a separate lodge to the rest of the hotel
Review 119:The location
Review 120:We expected to be staying in the Inn itself however when we arrived we were directed to an out building which they call the lodge, the rooms were basic and some three hundred yards from the Inn. We had been out for the day and returned at around 9pm and asked if we could buy a snack, all we wanted was a bowl of chips but were told no "you must order a meal" and so we ordered one between us and were asked by the manager if we would like an extra bowl of chips. This place is a pub with B&B facilities we went to book a table for dinner on the first night and were told that they were all gone and we could sit in the bar but this was based upon a first come first served basis, as residents we were treated like Pariahs.
Review 121:The setting is beautiful on a river
Review 122:THE NOISE FROM THE NEARBY ROAD WAS RELENTLESS, NO FAULT OF HOTEL OF COURSE BUT SPOILS THE WONDERFUL PEACE OF THE AREA. FOOD WAS OK BUT NOT BRILL, COULD DO WITH BUFFET BREAKFASTS.
Review 123:THE HOTEL WAS IN A LOVELY POSITION ON THE CANAL, LOVELY GROUNDS AND WALKS . LODGE WAS SEPARATE FROM MAIN BUILDING, WHICH WAS SO PLEASANT.
Review 124:We would have given a higher score had we not had to wait 30 mins for our breakfast and this could have been longer had I not asked for someone to lay our table and take our order.
Review 125:The Pyewipe is set in a nice location and the accommodation is on the whole very comfortable. The breakfast is good with a choice of food on offer. I would certainly consider going back.
Review 126:Ground floor rooms in detached lodge have no privacy. Have to close heavy curtains during day to stop people looking in. Needs something like net curtains.
Review 127:Location beside canal. 25 min pleasant walk to Lincoln center. Good reasonably priced food.
Review 128:lovely setting, cosy friendly pub with lovely freshly cooked food, really nice to relax after our day in Lincoln. The room was spacious with a comfy bed. Good stay
Review 129:Breakfast was very poor. I had paid for a double room so should have had two. Door to accommodation stuck, and when I pulled it it banged my head leaving a bruise. Lane to the hotel has a very poor surface and is narrow.
Review 130:Location by the waterway
Review 131:No problems at all.
Review 132:Rural situation, but only a few minutes out of town. Excellent accommodation detached from the Inn. Wonderful dinner & cooked to order breakfast served at the table. Staff friendly & efficient. Competitive prices for drinks.
Review 133:The whole place is a bit tired and the Walls betweenthe rooms are quite thin and Don't keep out the noise
Review 134:Excellent value for money. Does what it says on the tin. Pleasantly surprised about the restaurant. Not top cuisine, but, very well cooked and presented and for a realistic price. Well done chef.
Review 135:The room was clean and comfortable and shower was great. The only problem we had was a man ( I think it was a man ) was SNORING so loud in the room above it felt like he was in our room. Which makes me think the walls must be a bit thin.
Review 136:The food was excellent and a good choice. A lovely 35 min walk into town was great too. Location was perfect.
Review 137:no hot water in the pub toilets, only real towels for drying in toillets and looked grubby. very large menu leaving doubts that all food was fresh.
Review 138:the rooms are lovely and large and very clean
Review 139:We were under the impression that there was no capacity for cots but either of our two rooms could quite easily have accommodated a travelling cot which would have made sleeping with a 7 month old easier. Would advise taking a shower cap as the shower head is not adjustable.
Review 140:Large room, a little dated but comfortable and clean. Walking distance to Lincoln along the canal path (I'm not generally a walker but this was fine even for me!) Friendly staff.
The Fine Print
Please note, the hotel's restaurant will be running a reduced menu from 4 January 2016 until 14 January 2016 due to a kitchen refurbishment. Breakfast will not be affected.
