Reviews for Newbiggin Hall

Review 1:We arrived at Newbiggin Hall at about 5pm on the day of booking. We hadbooked because of good reviews talking of a homely atmosphere. We wereactually guided to the location by a friend who is a highly respectedjournalist on the local Ulverston newspaper and who we were dining withlater. He can confirm the sequence of events exactly. The property isone of a conglomerate of houses and the three of us (ourselves and ourlocal friend) knocked, shouted and rang bells. Our friend also calledthe Newbiggin number (I had left messages there previously without anyreply) with no success. We had a table booked at a local restaurant for7. 30 and had to get ready so we gave up and found alternativeaccommodation at great inconvenience. So on the ball were Newbiggin Hallthat we heard nothing until 10pm when we had a call while at the tableeating. Where were we asked the owner. I said it's ten o clockwe're eating and had to find somewhere else to stay. Actuallyit's five to ten she replied. ( the number she called from was notthe number on the Newbiggin website) Very precise about the five minutesbut not very precise about being available at the time guests generallyarrive. Now she wants a cancellation fee of £75 (the price of theaccommodation) and I feel I must ask does she make her money fromaccommodating people or from cancellation fees. I am appalled.

Review 2:On suite a little cramped but manageable

Review 3:An old farm house filled with antiques and family heir looms and home made tapestries. You could feel the history of the place. Avril our host was attentive, warm and chatty. Four poster bed very comfortable and the views to die for!

Review 4:A lovely B&B perched on the outskirts of Ulverston amidst the rolling hills and pastures of the Southern Lakes. The hostess Avril is an absolute delight providing a spotlessly clean house that you can call your own, top notch amenities, the occasional home baked goodie as well as a resplendent made to order cooked breakfast accompanied by preserved, freshly brewed coffee and seasonal fruits. All served in the conservatory overlooking the local farmland, sheep and cows. Bedrooms a nice size with comfy beds and quality linen. Shared bathroom is huge and fluffy towels and bathrobe are provided. Wi-fi is fast and reliable but the mobile reception a bit dodgy but just go into the garden stand on one leg and hold your phone aloft as I was instructed to do...it seemed to work :)

Review 5:A little bit difficult to find.

Review 6:We loved the breakfast and the staff were extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. Everything can be tailored around you. It was such a beautiful place and we would definitely visit again.

Review 7:Difficult to get a wifi signal

Review 8:A very homely and comfortable stay .Superb panoramic view from breakfast room and garden Owner Avril gave special homemade extras on arrival. Tea scones and strawberries and linen was luxurious. Bit of a taxi ride from town but worth to get away from noisy weekend and experience the peace and calm and enjoy the views and birdsong Would stay again. Thankyou Avril
