Reviews for Bail House

Review 1:This is a fantastic place to stay. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The breakfast was next door at a small bar and was well cooked with great service. The location is ideal for the castle and Cathedral. The rooms are tastefully furnished and the bed was really comfortable. Again many thanks to the excellent staff.

Review 2:The shower room, the step up with damaged Lino was dangerous. The poor fitting showe tray complete with untouched mould which was also on the wall and floor. Lamps over the sink were not working and the shower tap was dangerous. There was a bar area with a selection of drinks for sale but no cosey bar. Break was in the Tapas bar next door and was of poor quality.

Review 3:The bed, towels, location, car park , dressing gowns, tea making equipment, and the TV.

Review 4:Excellent location, lovely warm, comfortable room with loads of character. Wonderful white fluffy towels and bath robes. Liked the downstairs honesty bar also enjoyed the breakfast experience at the adjacent Tapas bar.

Review 5:Awful stay. Very poor.

Review 6:There was no good side. Room not as described. Four poster bed was just a bog standard divan. Had to hang curtain as fitting all over floor. Wires and strip lights all over floor in morning. No rest due to excessive noise. Turned bedroom light on and blew electrics for entire hotel then had to trip switch ourselves as no staff present. Room not made up. Was promised refund, still waiting. No email no phone call, terrible service, disappointed.

Review 7:Not a bad experience but not all rooms have en-suite facilities so important to check this when booking.

Review 8:Great location in the historic part of the city. We have stayed here before so it was our immediate choice of hotel for this visit to the city. Staff are always friendly and helpful. This is a hotel in a historic house that is full of character.

Review 9:Bathrooms are in desperate need of a refurb' they are very old fashioned and getting a bit tatty especially the flooring, Come on Bailhouse!! your hotel is lovely please spend a bit of money and sort out the bathrooms. I love this place but have never seen any redecoration in the years I have been coming.

Review 10:Love the Bailhouse have been about 12 times over the last 5 years, Love the lounge and the whole feel of the place. Bedrooms are lovely and full of character

Review 11:Lovely, quirky boutique hotel. Very friendly staff, great location. Traditional in its furnishings, even dated, but this is part of the relaxed nature of the hotel. I very much enjoyed my stay and will certainly be back.

Review 12:Bailgate is right at the top of the town and its a steep walk back up. It is also a bit dark if at night on your own.

Review 13:Very comfortable bed and lovely hot shower. The guest lounge with tea and coffee is great. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. The breakfast next door was really nicely cooked and the chef was very attentive. parking available.

Review 14:Hard to find the way in at first Go round the back to carpark yard entrance there is a door in bail gate and a gate which is entered by a code After check in

Review 15:Great location near castle and cathedral some nice pubs and restaurants near by

Review 16:Four poster bed was awesome. The location was perfect for the cathedral and the castle. The complementary coffee, honesty bar and lounge facilities were very good. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 17:The shared bathroom was a bit inconvenient but we did know about that when we booked.

Review 18:Great location, friendly staff. A Warm and welcoming place to stay over the Xmas break.

Review 19:Having to pay for parking in the hotel car park.

Review 20:Beautiful, charming and full of character. Very cheap and comfortable. Was very hard to find but the young man on the reception was very helpful.

Review 21:The hotel had a rear courtyard which was used as a car you had to pay £5 to use it. Also breakfast prices were shown before VAT I thought prices should be shown with VAT added. This is not the USA.

Review 22:Location and rooms were large.

Review 23:Primitive 'bathroom' not particularly clean and one of cleaning staff using it ( not cleaning) when my friend wished to use it in the morning for her personal use. ~ it was intended for our Private use.

Review 24:The decor / furniture in the bedroom The overall ambience of the hotel the honesty bar and the comfort of the sitting rooms. Friendliness and helpfulness of Staff.

Review 25:We stayed in room 5 which is a feature room and has low exposed roof beams. Unfortunately I banged my head on an exposed metal spike protruding from one of the beams while attempting to close the curtain next to the shower. It was equivalent to being hit with a medieval pole axe. This needs to be removed before someone else receives a serious injury.

Review 26:Location near the Cathedral and top of Steep Hill. Staff very friendly. Breakfast in tapas restaurant next door was very good and owner was very welcoming. Beautiful old building.

Review 27:I booked a room without an en-suite.

Review 28:location is great, and you must have the Full English Breakfast which was top. the Guest house has a very welcoming atmosphere, almost boutique type hotel with a sense of warmth as you step in. Staff were very helpful and big smiles. Very genuine I would say.

Review 29:Lovely spacious room with a big comfy bed. Bail House is right on the doorstep of all the main attractions, such as the Castle and the Cathedral. Then on the evening there is a wide range of eating houses and pubs without walking far

Review 30:Fire alarm woke us at 11.45pm. There was no member of staff to take a headcount which would be a safety issue if there had been a real fire. Décor needs refreshing.

Review 31:Location and historic character of place. Lounge had a homely feel and great place to chill.

Review 32:Pillow hard (room 10) but two and one was enough !suggest its replaced though !

Review 33:Fabulous historic property, lovely room ground floor front - not disturbed by street, toasty warm (winter) shared bathroom no problem - two toilets two rooms so no stress ! Quiet which is,important to me. Few yards to cathedral and castle and loads of inde shops with Lincoln city centre just down hill ..... Breakfast OUTSTANDING local sauseages and bacon ?

Review 34:No heating in the bedroom. The decoration of the room was worn and tired. Lack of toiletries in the bathroom.

Review 35:The location, good for places of interest and bars & restaurants. Handy shuttle bus into town. The room was interesting with a four poster bed.

Review 36:Finding the car park Locating the hotel

Review 37:The help of the stafff when they got the call for 'help' The environment of the place was warm, welcoming and easy going. Central location to everything required Lovely home cooked breakfast

Review 38:Having to use a code on both gate and outside door, which didn't always work. Having to go next door for breakfast

Review 39:The location, near the cathedral and castle and in the ols part of the city.

Review 40:The hotel was impossible to find when driving past (no obvious sign) - we had to park the car and search for the hotel on foot, then drive all round the one-way system again to get back to it.

Review 41:Location in the historic town centre with side view of cathedral; large lounge with internet PC, drinks and snacks available, free tea and coffee. Breakfast was in the next-door tapas bar but very good.

Review 42:was very difficult to find the hotel. we passed the antrance 3-4 times because there was no sign on it at all. the phone rings in a call center, not et the reception.

Review 43:very good location, lovely neighnourhood, lincoln centre is only a couple minutes with exciting nightlife.

Review 44:It was really noisy. £120 for one night plus parking plus breakfast,it was worth half of that.

Review 45:The location was good.Tito's restaurant was excellent.

Review 46:We had the King Room for a few days on our honeymoon, and I would highly recommend it if you want a healthy dose of luxury on your trip! The ceiling beams are particularly lovely (just mind your head by the bathroom door). The location is brilliant and all the staff as polite as they come. Not a single bad thing I can think of.

Review 47:Shower didn't work but staff very apologetic & quickly sorted.

Review 48:Lovely olde worlde room. Comfortable four poster bed. Large lounge & kitchen area for all guests with complimentary tea & coffee . Very close to Cathedral, castle & quaint shops.

Review 49:My recent stay at the Bail House and Mews was very enjoyable. First off, the location was excellent, being only a short walk from the Cathedral and the Castle and near the Tourist Information Centre. From the room I stayed in, I could even see the towers of the Cathedral. There were plenty of good places to eat nearby as well. Breakfast was available on the premises, and was very good as well. The customer service at the Bail House was excellent from start to finish. They provided prompt and courteous confirmation of my booking within hours of having made it. On arrival, I was made very welcome, feeling that my hosts were sincere in their appreciation of my business. The room I was provided was clean, quiet and comfortable and had all the expected amenities. I appreciated the fact that the premises were quite secure and clean. There was an honour snack stand and bar as well and access to a computer in a charming common room. Everything about the property was admirable and I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Review 50:REALLY hard to find - the address says it's on Bailgate, and it can be accessed from Bailgate once you have the code for the gate, but when you first arrive you have to go down the next street along from the hotel (Westgate) and right along a little dead end cobbled street to the carpark. There is only a very tiny sign on Bailgate itself and no way of accessing the hotel this way when arriving for the first time. We were stuck in the one way road system for quite a while before eventually phoning the hotel for better directions - and we had already contacted them by email to ask how to get into the car park so it would have been useful to be given proper directions then rather than just being given a postcode which covered quite a large area! The hotel is quite nice, but the decor and furnishings were rather tatty and in need of updating. The mirror in the bathroom was at chest height which would make it very difficult to shave or do your hair/make up - a minor thing really, but it would be inconvenient if you were staying for a while.

Review 51:Very friendly and helpful staff, fantastic location a few minutes from the cathedral/castle but on a quiet street, good breakfast (in restaurant next door), comfortable lounge with drinks/snacks available on an honesty box system.

Review 52:Room was very tired and needs a update?? Things like hoover lying on landing??

Review 53:The location was very good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. 10/10 for them. Room was clean

Review 54:Ability to book a "family" room - two bedrooms sharing one bathroom. Much cheaper than two separate rooms. Location spot on - and parking too.

Review 55:Attention to detail missing. Room service failed 2 mornings out of 3. Bath towel stained. Venetian blind in bathroom not working. Poor breakfast facilities, cramped café, poor food selection for hotel of this standard. Front line staff good but no management backup

Review 56:Location of Hotel good.

Review 57:Could be difficult climbing stairs for folks with mobility problems - no lift from what I could see. Didn't impact us at all though.

Review 58:Lovely house, great decor and a spacious room. 2 mins from the Assembly Rooms where we were at for a wedding. No breakfast onsite but can be got next door at Ole Ole with separate back entrance for guests. Great food. We'll be back!

Review 59:odd smell in the stairwell; rooms at the front of the house a bit noisy at night - no double glazing so could still hear with windows closed

Review 60:great location for the old part of town; nice guest lounge with "Honesty Bar"

Review 61:Not being able to stay longer!

Review 62:The staff were all very pleasant and welcoming, the location was ideal, the surrounding restaurants and ale houses were terrific, and the price was extremely good value for money

Review 63:NOTHING

Review 64:Perfect!!! The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are traditionally designed and so comfy I didn't want to leave. The lounge area is very relaxing and a lovely extra you often don't get in this type of property. Location is perfect to explore Lincoln. All the staff were wonderfully helpful and polite. Convenient access to and from the property. I would 100% recommend this property.

Review 65:Location, location, location...wonderful. lighting over sink was hopeless. The maid one day carelessly left my room door slightly ajar after I spent the day out. The key to this door was a continual difficulty, most aggravating. I had to hang my raincoat in the bathroom because the armoire was too short to hold a regular full length coat. AB Homer.

Review 66:Extremely comfortable, good atmosphere, close to the Cathedral and Castle - as we were there for our daughter's graduation - also a good selection of eating places and independent shops. With many more down the hill! Tasty breakfast.

Review 67:Just personal to us we found the bed a little soft, but we have an extra hard mattress at home. Still got a reasonable sleep and others would find it comfortable.

Review 68:Furniture and decor in keeping with the building. Great location for walking into town and good restaurants close by.

Review 69:Very hard to find the hotel. No clear signage for car park or hotel. Central heating radiators were on full blast completely unnecessary.

Review 70:Central location. Friendly staff.

Review 71:No ensuite Shared bathroom basic and uncomfortable Code access via two available entrances, difficult to read small print on piece of paper given with codes on, especially at night and after a few glasses of wine!

Review 72:Beautiful four poster bed! Lovely traditional room

Review 73:The location could not be better and is situated extremely close to both the cathedral and castle grounds. There are also excellent restaurants nearby and I would particularly rate Gino's Italian Restaurant.

Review 74:Excellent location, lovely guest lounge and courtyard. Generally is a lovely, well restored historic building, couldn't fault it in any way other than nit-picking! Rachel was an excellent host. We will certainly go back but for longer next time!

Review 75:housekeeping was short staffed so slow at cleaning rooms and missed bins and basins.Cafe tried its best but some things not quite up to standard.scrambled eggs very strange!! and rather stingey with portions ran out of somethings.Been better to of had breakfast in lounge area of hotel,if had kitchen.

Review 76:staff were excellent, comfortable room, nice location.

Review 77:Prefer stronger tea: like Yorkshire tea best. Also prefer two teabags in a teapot, not one!

Review 78:Staff - people matter, not places. You are a friendly bunch, and helpful. Old building was beautiful.

Review 79:Very hot in the room we had on second floor. No air in from the window and only a fan to try and cool it down.

Review 80:Fab location. Perfect for Asylum! Lovely lounge, and breakfast. Tapas next door is wonderful. All staff are fantastic and helpful.

Review 81:Loved everything about Bailhouse

Review 82:Fabulous welcome , nothing too much trouble _ felt totally at home could not recommend this.beautiful hotel highly enough

Review 83:It was a very hot night, so we kept the windows wide open and there was some noise from the street below but that is to be expected near a city centre.

Review 84:We were attending a wedding at The Assembly rooms which are just across the road. Bail house is perfectly situated for visiting the fabulous Cathedral and castle. It was our first trip to Lincoln and we loved the city. The availability of snacks and drinks at night through an honesty box system was great although we didn't partake of this facility on this occasion. I also loved the antique furniture in the rooms and the residents lounge was very comfortable - you could happily meet up with friends for a coffee or drink there.

Review 85:No toilet paper present en suite

Review 86:The proximity to the Castle and Cathedral. The hotels lounge. The no-smoking policy even though I am a smoker. The staff's good natured and effective service.

Review 87:The only thing is breakfast is not included.

Review 88:Fabulous location and the family room had a separate sleeping area for the kids, the whole place is full of character and charm.

Review 89:The Wi-Fi wasn't very strong in our bedroom but that may be due to the thick walls in our room. Other areas of the hotel was fine.

Review 90:The style of the room was perfect for our romantic weekend away, and the staff were friendly and informative.

Review 91:not too bad, i don't think you can find much better options in Lincoln, but i disliked: noise from the cathedral and the street, bad but free wifi, dirty shower curtain.

Review 92:The location is in the exact city centre, close to the Castle and cathedral (which also means very noisy).

Review 93:The only slight concern would be that the family room we were allocated could benefit from some refurbishment and greater attention to detail ie some of the curtain hooks were missing.

Review 94:Central location in the cathedral quarter.Large resident's lounge and character of the building.

Review 95:Nothing to dislike. Although Steep Hill is brutal, no need for gym equipment.

Review 96:The hotel was so beautiful and full of character, the staff helpful and friendly. Just had a lovely time.

Review 97:Disappointed with room, door handle missing into toilet black shed bolt fitted to inside of door to lock ,both beds broken, fan, kettle, hairdryerand tv not pat tested, window sill rotten and paint lifting,I'm a retired hotel maintaince manager (Grand Hotel Leicester).

Review 98:Location

Review 99:We had asked for a ground floor room if possible as we are elderly. We were put two flights up steep stairs!

Review 100:Location was good for visiting the Old Quarter.

Review 101:This is classes as a 5 star hotel, unfortunately in my opinion it did not have the edge I would expect of a 5 star. The bed was not particularly comfortable and we had to ask for more pillows as there were only two very thin pillows in the bed. The carpet had not been vaccines very well. The room did not have that luxurious feel you would expect of 5 stars. Other things like the cups in the room were cheap and small and the iron we borrowed from reception had a broken lead which was wrapped with duct tape! Dissapointig as this was a trip for our anniversary.

Review 102:The staff were lovely and very helpful. The building is really nice and in a great location for the castle and cathedral.

Review 103:Breakfast was a little cramped in the next door tapas bar, and the cleaning of the room could be more thorough.

Review 104:Very quirky hotel and well located in centre of City. Friendly helpful staff. Lovely room and big bathroom and the whole hotel had some lovely old features.

Review 105:Only point would be how hot the rooms were! Perhaps having sheets as well as duvet would be good?!

Review 106:Perfect one night trip away. Room was beautiful and comfortable, loved style. Lovely decor and friendly staff. Brilliant location. Thank you!

Review 107:You offered us an upgrade for £40 we thought we would be getting the same as what we had booked with more space and of course the 4 poster bed. I booked the original room as it had a bath. The upgrade only had a shower so was disappointed. Also we could not get onto wifi in room 7.

Review 108:The Location

Review 109:The shower room on the ground floor needs some updating and the water pressure was low. There are plenty of locations serving breakfast locally and we didn't feel the breakfast was very tasty or good value (it's an additional cost).

Review 110:Wonderfully friendly staff and great location.

Review 111:Rooms to the front road suffer from the street noise

Review 112:Very central location Very friendly staff Nice rooms, more like you find in a B&B, not the standardised rooms found in hotel chains

Review 113:The bedroom a little hot on warm nights. Breakfast not great. Waiter sprayed bleach on next table while we were eating - not necessary - unpleasant smell - also some of the bleach landed on our breakfast.

Review 114:The location was great. Staff really welcoming and helpful. Beautiful rooms. Very homely and friendly.

Review 115:It just needs a bit of tlc really. There is a split on the wooden toilet seat which I'm sure must ooze bacteria. It was a very warm night we needed the window open...big mistake. The bin lorries collected all the glass bottles from 5.30 and the traffic never stops. That's not the hotels fault though so I can't blame them.

Review 116:My third time at this hotel because I love the location. It is in a fantastic historic part of Lincoln close to cathedral castle and lovely places to eat. It is a clean hotel and does have character.

Review 117:Bedroom was a bit cramped with large pieces of furniture. Bathroom mirror was way too low. Suggest some smaller furniture and smaller adjustable mirror above sink in bathroom and maybe a larger one on the empty wall in there.

Review 118:Lovely location and building. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 119:The ensuite was small and in need of some attention decoratively.

Review 120:The features of the room- mediaeval roof beams. The staff were very friendly & the guest lounge was lovely, with its 'Honesty Bar' and comfy sofas.

Review 121:The hotel was easy to locate, a relatively short walk from the main centre and train station, up 'steep hill' surrounded by local shops, pubs and restaurants. The room itself was a decent size, very clean and provided free wifi, along with complimentary drinks including hot chocolate (which impressed me!) and cookies.

Review 122:Had a hangover in the morning so could have done with out the bell ringing from the cathedral. But the hotel is very close to it which gives a really nice feel. I will go back to take I the sights.

Review 123:Character of the hotel. Clean tidy and staff were great

Review 124:Not applicable

Review 125:The location of this hotel is fabulous. The room was comfortable & clean & the staff were friendly & welcoming. The decoration & furnishings complimented the building which I found charming. Thank you so much!

Review 126:Having to pay for parking

Review 127:Views of Cathedral were stunning, close to Castle and Cathedral, friendly helpful staff, enjoyed breakfast in the tapas bar next door

Review 128:Room was very warm over night, made it hard to get a good nights sleep. But then i could have opened a window i suppose, minor gripe really.

Review 129:Friendly staff, great room, close to the castle and cathedral, good secure parking at the back, 10 min walk from great shopping. Fantastic tapas resturant next door.

Review 130:Lovely place furnished with real antiques. The location is very convenient and we were able to park on the street outside. The WIFI worked fine and we had a delightful stay. I didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that.

Review 131:Hotel does no food at all- only snacks and the reviews of the breakfast available from the Tapas bar next door put us off having one do we had to go out for breakfast each morning. Wifi signal was very weak.

Review 132:Staff were amazing- so chatty and friendly. Location of the hotel was fab- yes, it's at the top of the hill but we had a view of the cathedral from our window so it's worth the walk. Room was cute and comfy. We will be staying there again.

Review 133:Shower was only luke warm, cleaning staff were not very flexible about the time of cleaning the room, towels were not changed when placed in the bath and we were not told there was parking available at the hotel.

Review 134:Location was great and having a room that could accommodate two adults and two kids in was a bonus.

Review 135:The staff were helpful and cheerful. The historic parts of the property are wonderful. The tapas restaurant next door, where the breakfasts are served, is also great for an evening meal.
