Reviews for Balos Beach
Review 1:All good
Review 2:Sea view, cleanliness, lift. Furniture was new and king size bed very comfortable. Excellent base to explore 3 wonderful beaches (Elafonissi, Falassarna & Balos) and the ruins of old Falassarna & Polyrrinia.
Review 3:The bathroom as the shower head would not remain attached...but very tiny detail
Review 4:Great location, just minutes away from the entrance to Balos island and amazing view and swimming pool. Great value for money and would recommend room upstairs
Review 5:the way to come in the hotel is complicated , but it is worth if you want to visit balos beach .
Review 6:we liked much the location , the view and the room (renovated sea view)
Review 7:You need preferably a car to access this place and to visit the nicest beaches nearby, although taxis are available.
Review 8:Well located in a quiet beach, isolated from the noise of nearby Kissamos. Very helpful and friendly staff, comfortable and enjoyable. Close to the nicest beaches in Crete.
Review 9:The Wi-fi connection was very poor. The facilities in the room were average. Furtniture old-fashioned and not comfortable (also chairs in the balcony were broken). Almost no light in the bathroom.
Review 10:The view from the balcony was very nice. The hotel staff was very kind and helpful.
Review 11:It is a bit far from shops and Kissamos. It was hard to find it when we arrived late in night, so in that case ask for detail instructions. Everyone coming here should be aware that car are necessery. Balos beach is 7km by car and than walk 2km, so you cant go evary day. It is too hot at balcony, no shade, so it is too hot in room too, and airconditioner is directly over bed, so it could be hard to sleep at night with as well as without airconditioner. There is no partition between balconies so you see neighbours, which we didnt like.
Review 12:Studio is nice and comfortable, looks the same as on picture. Nice view from balcony. Hotel is new and looks nice. Enough equipment in kitchen to cook if you want. Pool is not too crowded. There is beach near, but it is not organised. Nice beach Falasarna is near by car as well as Chania. Overall it was very nice, and I would come again!
Review 13:If you are going for long stay (we stayed there 12days) and you take breakfast for sure you'll get bored to eat same breakfast for 12days and variety is very poor. You'll need to pay if you want a decent coffee(not only instant coffee from machine). Also the parking place is having no light during night and for sure if you are leaving or arriving between 12am and 5am you can broke your neck on stares as no light working.
Review 14:Location and room are quite fine. Room is big enough, but bathroom looks like is not finished. Good kitchen facilities in the room. Close location to good beaches. Room was cleaned every day.
Review 15:The room was missing blankets when we checked in late, and when we called, we were told it was late and no one would get them for us until the next day... Worthless since we were checking out the next day. It would also have been nice if they had included the breakfast buffet instead of asking another $10 pp for it
Review 16:The hotel was beautiful. Some of the staff were super nice.
Review 17:nothing to mention here
Review 18:This is the closest facility to Balos beach. So a strategic location :) also not far from here you have a very good restaurant in the village of Kaliviani (Gramboussa restaurant) and mama's Dinner, which is a higher-end restaurant. Wi-Fi is lightning fast at this hotel.
Review 19:not really a beach as all rocks. food was very poor by Cretan standards and not good value
Review 20:nearby tavernas, lovely pool, snorkelling, great suite, staff so helpful and friendly
Review 21:Bathroom are a bit small compared to the apartment and could be better furnished...
Review 22:The best place to start your trip to Balos! Very good hotel and staff is very friendly! All the rooms have sea view and you can watch the dawn from the sea...
Review 23:No beach. You need a car there is nothing close by. Small village close by with 2 restaurants. Kissamos town is about 8kms away.
Review 24:Good view. Large rooms with big comfortable balcony. Open restaurant with beautiful view of the ocean. Buffet available for dinner. Good food but not much variety especially if you don't eat porc. Can drive to Elafonissi narrow mountain road takes about 1.5hrs but worth it once you see the clear waters and beautiful beach.
Review 25:Air conditioning did not work in the room and there was no drinking water in the fridge. I had a hot, sleepless night. Location is the only good thing about this outdated poorly maintained hotel
Review 26:It´s pity that there is no beach suitable for swimming right front of the hotel. There is a small beach you can walk or sit and relax. But if know that - and it´s obvious from the hotel description - you have no problem with that. You are on Falassarna beach in 20 minutes by car.
Review 27:I can recommend this hotel very much - for those who are looking for quiet place, have a car and want to travel in western Chania. Facilities are simple but in fact you have really everything you need: spacious rooms, great food, nice pool that is never crowded, nice staff !, Wi-Fi (really good connection), stunning views, everything is clean, towels changed daily and it is the best location to go to Balos Beach. We enjoyed the stay very much!
Review 28:There was an odd smell in the breezeway out side our room. I had to hold my breath to walk by... But the hotel may not have control of this.
Review 29:Staff was very nice! Beautiful picturesque views! I would recommend this hotel.
Review 30:Some serious wind a few days but it cleared. Who can help that?
Review 31:Friendly folks! Great sea and mountain view... with the moon! Sea was warmer this time of year. Not far from the ancient Falasarna site on the west side of the peninsula.
Review 32:Family running - breakfast shared with staff and owners family. No decent beach in surrounding. No place to hang towels in bathroom.
Review 33:Good breakfast and new renovated room on second floor with great view over sea. Wi-Fi worked good.
Review 34:Hotel room is newly refurbished in a modern style. The view was breathtaking, even from the bed! Staff and Management, very friendly and accommodating. They informed me they are planning to build a sand beach later this year! Fantastic base for exploring the west coast.
Review 35:Extremely hospitable family run hotel where nothing was too much trouble Chef provided a Delicious spread for breakfast and dinner every day with many Grecian dishes. With Costas and Kaliopios waiting the table and the stunning views of the sunsets and sea every meal was a pleasure. Cocktails provided by Katerina were just lovely too. Infact all the staff went out of their way to makes us feel welcome. Location of this hotel is so peaceful and the views just stunning Cannot wait to go back We feel we have made true friends from our stay and cannot wait to go back
Review 36:nothing would stay again for longer
Review 37:large family apartment kitchen fridge table terrace 5 good beds all full size clean staff excellent we had a problem finding petrol due to rush for full and banks closed hotel found us fuel and helped in everyway possible
Review 38:Shower is Greek "type" like in other cities is not stuck in the wall. It is the nearest hotel close to Balos beach but even though it is necessary a car.
Review 39:Hotel is simple but super charming and cute with a wonderful swimming pool and staff is very friendly! Wifi is excellent! Also breakfast is great!!!
Review 40:WiFi connection is not very strong in the room, the public dining room (restaurant) looks and feels a little cold - no pictures or paintings on walls, no music, no atmosphere. the next reasonable supermarket is a ten minutes drive away.
Review 41:I liked the fact that they have an ok-sized pool, plus a small one for kids, also the friendliness of staff and the good food. they offer apartments with cooking niche, which is great. size of 2-bedroom apartment is ideal for a family of 4
Review 42:- water in the bathroom is salt water - shower didn't have hot water only warm, but it was ok since the weather was warm enough :)
Review 43:- closest hotel to Balos Beach - clean and new facilities - great sea view - very quiet
Review 44:It is far from any village or places to go for a drink or dinner.
Review 45:It was quiet and very near from Balos. It is good to stay there if you want to visit this beach because to get there its half an hour driving in a bad road and later 2km walking.
Review 46:Shower never really warm, kitchen utensils minimal
Review 47:Hotel is located very quietly and beautiful directly by the sea. The room is very spacious, big balcony and with a great view. Nice furniture
Review 48:We didn't mind but what you can't really see in the photos is that the hotel dates from the late nineties so it's not brand new. Beds are allittle bit hard and tiles in the bathroom a bit kitch. It has its style though and very good price to qualility ratio.
Review 49:Its location is perfect if you're looking for a quiet place at the seaside, great views, swimming pool, but also access to a small beach. Its far from the city so access by car mainly. Close to the balos beach but the beach itself is quite difficult to access, not for a stroll with a child for sure. Good food, big rooms, nice and helpful staff. Free parking, free wifi, hotel is the Minoan palace inspired on 4levels with impressive staircase. It is quite interesting.
Review 50:uncomfortable bed decoration in room seemed unfinished needs a bit of decorate around property lots of ants around pool area no path or access to seafront
Review 51:views stunning seclusion
Review 52:Still a lot of improvements to the property in progress. The room, nice as it was was not quite finished off.
Review 53:On the road to balos beach, lovely little village just up the road
Review 54:The bar area and dining area were a bit functional, and there were areas round pool which needed planting up.
Review 55:It was exactly what we wanted and what it said on the box. We lived the peaceful setting and the nearby village and taverna. Was an excellent base got seeing the area.
Review 56:The balconies at the 2nd floor rooms are not safe for infants. We had to close the window at night to ensure that our daughter is not going out...
Review 57:Very nice hotel, nice and welcoming staff, beautiful pool, great sea view
Review 58:Nothing at all near by. Nearest village is about 1km away (this had a good and popular restaurant). Hire car essential Drinks were expensive in the hotel bar. The beach below the hotel is very rocky (no sand at all) and only suitable for experienced swimmers (Some sandy bays a short drive away). Just wish they could clear away the portacabin almost in front of the hotel and the rubbish dumped in the field opposite which spoil the otherwise nice setting.
Review 59:Great location overlooking the bay. Hotel looks much better than the classification - good value for money. The pool was excellent and had same great view. Well kept gardens. Spacious rooms and balconies. Friendly staff. Good value evening buffet. WiFi recently upgraded (late summer 2014) and now quite fast and all over hotel. We would definitely consider returning.
Review 60:If you want to get around you need a car, but that's not a problem. The hotel is brilliant all by itself.
Review 61:Woke up each morning to the sea gently lapping on the shore, pomegranate trees heavy in fruit, spacious accommodation. The hotel is situated very near to the most beautiful beach on the island - Balos. Could not fault the staff - truly lovely, welcoming people.
Review 62:Nothing except leaving.
Review 63:This place is wonderful. The lady of the house is very helpful and the receptionist particularly good. It says it all when the owner says "we treat her like a daughter" which I truly believe. I love her old Cretan father-in-law walking round the reception - reminded me of my dad! I really wish that I could have spoken to him in his language as he would have had amazing stories to tell. His father had been killed during the war and he, at 15, had had to provide for his six sisters and mother during the 4 year occupation - so you can see why I would have liked to converse. I cannot fault this place in any way. I particularly like the tea being presented in a s/s teapot with milk jug..... I had had a week of Athens tea, Aegina tea and Crete tea so this was a godsend. The breakfast choices and dinner choices were exceptional and very good value for money indeed. In fact - after checking the dinner table selection I purchased dinner there - I did not do that anywhere else which speaks for itself (i.e. I am tight fisted!). The view from the balcony was fantastic.
Review 64:No beach. Room's furniture was pretty old.
Review 65:Great location to visit Balos and Gramvoussa. You can get there early morning before all the crowd came, takes ~30 minutes by car from the hotel to the parking lot. Fantastic seaview, especially on the sunrise. Clean rooms and territory.
Review 66:Some parts of the resort need renovation. There is a big difference on the quality of the rooms. The first room offered to us was well below standard. Luckily, however, we were able to move to a better room after the first night.
Review 67:Friendly staff Excellent house-keeping
Review 68:Nothing
Review 69:The hotel has a great location. close to Balos beach, which is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever visited. the hotel itself is also excellent too, very clean room, great sea view from the room/balcony. Very freindly staff, sweet cats walking around. Like all of them!
Review 70:Skilled driver needed!! Driving a manual car through very small/narrow dirt roads to get to hotel. You must go thru a small village/resturants to get to Balos beach hotel. AND the main road is soo narrow that only one car can fit thru - we had to reverse several times because other cars were coming the opposite way.
Review 71:Close to Balos Beach entrance - hotel on the same road you have to take for Balos beach. Stuff was very friendly and helpful. Someone was always at the front desk. Beautiful surroundings - right on the beach.
Review 72:friendliness of the owners and all staff members location great beaches nearby absolutely ideal for a relaxing break Try Zacharias resstaurant in Falassarna only 7-8 min drive, has got amazing food and the owner is amazing
Review 73:quite location, far from city noises; close to the most beautiful beach in Kreta; friendly and helpful staff (especially lady who spoke with us in Polish); both room and restaurant tarrace with wonderful view; room, pretty large room; very good WI-FI
Review 74:Old British 80's music coming from the bar as we were next to it, it wasnt really loud but annoying. Fridge was noisy in room. Beds had a foot board so had to rearrange furniture a bit.
Review 75:The views were stunning Hotel clean and well run Very close to stony beach, good for snorkeling Half hour drive to Balos beach Friendly staff Cooking facilities in room Large room & balcony Nice pool
Review 76:The BED-the hardest matress I've slept on in my live, Short bedswith footboard which makes it even harder to stretch, no noiceinsulation and very accustic rooms so every single noice frome theneighbours can be heard
Review 77:Views, great sized pool, towels changeg every day, clean, peacefullplace, wi-fi connection works perfectly, hot water all the time, plentyof parking place, nice sized terrace, stuff
Review 78:There are about 4 cats that wander freely about the apartments and occasionally around the tables of the restaurant while we're having meals. We didn't mind this but resisted feeding them. The hotel is rather more remote than we had anticipated and we would recommend hiring a car/bike as the nearest town (Kissamos) is about 5 miles away. There is no supermarket within reasonable walking distance of the hotel. Airport transport from Chanos took a worrying long 1.5 hours with pick ups at various hotels and we were the last stop. Though it was reasonably priced from ResortHoppa. The cooking facilities in the room were quite small with two electric pan points which heated food/water really slowly. There was a reasonably sized fridge which chilled water so well that ice formed in the bottle. There was no oven or kettle in our room but we were not that concerned as the hotel restaurant food was delicious. There was air-conditioning in the room and it works well though you have to ensure all doors and windows are closed to turn it on! I found it noisy when sleeping in the rear room but it was very quiet in the front.
Review 79:Very friendly and helpful staff - they helped retrieve a camcorder I had left in a taxi - they worked out where we had caught the taxi, made a number of telephone calls and even retrieved the camera for us from the taxi driver in Kissamos. We couldn't thank them enough for their help with this and other queries. Hotel has a buffet style breakfast and dinner with a good range of tasty dishes and for a reasonable price. There are stunning views from the restaurant to the sea and all apartments seem to have a view of the sea. The sea water is very clear, litter free and reasonably warm. Although there is no local sandy beach - we enjoyed doing some snorkeling and virtually had the sea to ourselves during our stay. We would recommend booking a boat tour to Balos Beach - the beach has white sands and you could call it a paradise. Free Wi-Fi was available and reasonably fast - though it was best nearest the restaurant. The shower was reasonably strong and was hot when ever we needed to use it. Taxis to Kissamos cost 10 Euros and Kissamos has an ATM and a good range of shops.
Review 80:Being invaded by cats but appreciate the come up from the village. On our last night their was rain and the overflow pipes/roof water landed outside the bedrooms which kept us awake. The kitchen only had two rings and no kettle. We probably wouldn't have cooked if there was a fully equipped kitchen but I was always worried when putting a saucepan to boil, for a cup of tea, that my four year old might knock it off by mistake(even with handle turned in)
Review 81:We had the most fantastic reception by the girl with a red flower in her hair, who our four year old son was smitten with. In the evenings Costos was also fantastic making us feel very welcome. The pool and scenery were spectacular. It was central to beaches such as Elafonisi, Falasarna and Balos, which were ideal for young children, also his 16 year old sister, who turned 16 while we stayed.
Review 82:Food is just ok, go to the nearest village where there is an excellent tavern ! Rooms are ok but getting old without any charm
Review 83:Good location to go to Balos beach Nice view and swimming pool Quiet area, far from the busy areas
Review 84:low water pressure in the shower
Review 85:spacious and comfortable room with pleasant sea view perfect starting point to go to Balos beach Quiet place not far from village
Review 86:Nearest (to Balos beach) doesn't necesssrily mean. At the same time, hotel is too far away from Kissamos, if you want to go for an evening walk
Review 87:The nearest hotel to Balos beach, and if you have a car you can also go to Falassarna or Eleafonisi
Review 88:WI-FI connection is available but does not allow you to get quality bandwith. No possibility to use it correctly. Cleanup was not high quality and the balcony/terrasse door of the room couldn´t be locked.
Review 89:The place is the nearest to Balos
Review 90:size of the bed (a queen for two is quite small!), small sheets, slow WiFi (better connect late at night or early in the morning), they will refuse you a second key pretending this is the rule worldwide (!!??)
Review 91:position, the complex itself is new and well kept, size of the room, kitchen facility, food at dinner buffet, free Wi Fi. lots of beautiful cats!
Review 92:Wifi too slaw and often impossible to use. In the beach in front of the hotel is impossible to have access to the see (even if we had some swimming shoes)
Review 93:Wonderful place and hotel if you want enjoy relax and beautiful beach (elafonisi, falasarna, balos beach). Very nice swimming pool. Very good breakfast and very clean. The dinner is good if you want stay at the hotel but in Kaliviani (700 m) there are very good and cheap restaurant to eat.
Review 94:WiFi was poor. Usualy you can't connect because to many users reach capacity limits of the wifi device. Try to use internet after 2am when every sleeps. We got poor room in old wing, nothing like in pictures. They should change pricing and not to charge the same for old ugly room and the same for new room. Price is not related to what you get really.
Review 95:Location is not far from Balos beach (7 km). Pool wasn't bad but not so nice as in the pictures
Review 96:Wifi is only in the reception area but as it turned out, you learned to managed what is missing.
Review 97:Beautiful beach area of Crete and you have different choices of beach to visit nearby. The owner is very helpful and friendly staff.
Review 98:Bathroom was a bit old and worn, Wifi in guest rooms was unreliable (but if was fine in the reception), pool bar was closed
Review 99:Very nice atmosphere (relaxed and peaceful). The view. Nice saltwater pool. The not-so-crowded pool area with sea view and always a cooling wind. Location was great, a bit secluded but with 3 very good restaurants nearby and close to Balos, Falassarna and Elafonisi beach. Very friendly and nice staff
Review 100:Clean and accommodating, quiet location
Review 101:The location.....to die for!! Very friendly staff, lovely restaurant with buffet dinner and breakfast.
Review 102:Wonderful sea view and the very friendly staff. It's also very near to the nice beaches.
Review 103:Stunning views and sunrises every morning. Helpful friendly staff.Clean room and linen every day.
Review 104:Easy to find just after the small village,on the way to Balos beach.Very good breakfast and beautiful swimming pool.Everybody kind!
Review 105:Amazing views. Hospitality at its finest! Great value for money! Beautiful new renovated rooms! Surrounding area was gorgeous !
Review 106:The pool bar wasn't open at night
Review 107:the view and size of the room.
Review 108:Safety light was too bright and made it difficult to sleep. Buffet dinner poor.
Review 109:Large, comfy room with a lovely view.
Review 110:nothing
Review 111:Nearest hotel for Balos Beach. Not far from Kissamos for the supper.Nice swimming pool.Kind reception and well informed.
Review 112:Payment from credit card is usually at arrival but was taken already when i booked it
Review 113:I advise to improve the catering service with typical products
Review 114:beautiful location, staff is very friendly, I advise to rent a car to move around it
Review 115:The shower was broken and the hotel is generally a little dated. Not much else around.
Review 116:It's a good location for getting to Balos Bay.
Review 117:Disappointed with room.
Review 118:Views from pool, restaurant and bar were wonderful.
Review 119:Very spacious and nice decorately room. Lovely living room and balcony. Friendly staff. Good location!
Review 120:Nothing to say, IT was all Good
Review 121:Wonderful location near to all most beautiful beaches, Great swimming pool, very helpful/kind staff
Review 122:everything
Review 123:All
Review 124:friendly staff, nice rooms, great beaches in a short distance, relaxed athmosphere, location inside Natura Park area
Review 125:Conventional hotel with no character
Review 126:The view
Review 127:Pool bar was closed the whole time.
Review 128:The views, the breeze and the waves crashing on the rocks.
Review 129:Great view and great staff .... My wife and I will be back
Review 130:No fresh orange juice at breakfast
Review 131:The place is ideal for exploring this part of creat
Review 132:everything is excellent food location receiving attention is a paradise
