Reviews for The Bell at Stow

Review 1:We had a lovely stay at the Bell and can't really fault it. Our room was clean, comfortable and well furnished. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and they've clearly thought about the added extras - there was a complimentary carafe of port and a proper coffee machine in the room. The food at the Bell is also excellent.

Review 2:Nothing bad but please note some rooms are above the main bar and you should expect some noise in the room until after 11:00pm.

Review 3:Excellent hotel with comfortable rooms, very good restaurant and helpful staff. Wifi speed is much improved and good for business use.

Review 4:I know this is an inn but we found it incredibly noisy. Sitting in our room we could hear everyone in the bar. Then later staff were scraping wooden tables & chairs around the floor until midnight.Horrendous!!!! We were booked in for 3 nights but left after 1

Review 5:Would've been even nicer if our bathroom had a bathtub :)

Review 6:Room 3. It was very comfortable & spacious! Fresh linen, good bed & proper coffee machine! Breakfast menu lovely, parking on site, location great - close to everything! We will return!

Review 7:Only 4 coat hangers for the wardrobe, and as much as I loved the steamer trunks as bedtime tables, it did lack drawer/cupboard space.

Review 8:Friendly and helpful staff, delicious breakfast with a good variety of choice. Room was spacious (room 3), comfy bed, shower great, and a nice touch was the shortbread bites, which we took on our hike to keep us going. We also ate in the restaurant on the first night, without exception all our meals were amazing. I was concerned it was a little away from the Main Street of Stow, but I needn't have worried, it was in the perfect location with excellent parking.

Review 9:Road noise and generator across the road running all the time. Nothing the staff could do about it as it is out of their control.

Review 10:Friendly staff. Great breakfast.

Review 11:Our room had plenty of mirrors but non near natural light so applying make up was difficult, particularly in the evening. We didn't like the opaque bathroom door as we felt it compromised personal privacy.

Review 12:We received a warm welcome and this was comsistant throughout our stay. The room was clean and beautifully decorated. Lots of little extras and nice toiletries. Great food.

Review 13:Nithing i didnt like but room prices are a little expensive for a pub

Review 14:Fantastic location, staff were friendly and welcoming, they could do enough for us.

Review 15:Nothing.

Review 16:Smashing gastro pub/hotel. Very comfortable with the best cooked breakfast ever! Even though I was staying in 'The Broom Cupboard' which was tiniest room ever, it was still comfortable with some nice touches like port and chocolates at your bedside.

Review 17:Shower was just ok. Handle on toilet brush was broken. On a busy intersection. Small things really.

Review 18:The staff were very friendly and everything was beautiful. Food was top quality and location perfect. Very comfortable beds and nice selection of tea and coffee in room along with port and local treats. Good hot towel rail and room a nice temperature. Breakfast was delicious.

Review 19:The pubs is old so if you are in a room above the bar the noise travels up. Didn't bother us but may bother boring people that go to bed at about 9pm ;)

Review 20:Really nice place, staff were probably the most friendly I have come across. The food was excellent as well, couldn't fault it. We have already booked to go back for my birthday in Feb :)

Review 21:When I booked They only had their smallest room available but on arrival they put me in to what they said was one of their best rooms..A nice welcome.

Review 22:Only reason have marked down the staff is because as the pub was quietening down and we were perched at the bar finishing drinks it was as if the bar staff forgot we were there and/or were customers and subjected us to listening to their loud banter/chat which was pretty inappropriate and made me a bit uncomfortable. Felt it was unprofessional/disrespectful for the type of place it is.

Review 23:Food was lovely (dinner and breakfast); great atmosphere in the pub (stayed on a Sun when live music in bar); room spacious and gorgeous cosy decor; easy walk into town.

Review 24:we didn't have a bad experience at all - the only thing was there were no chairs in the bedroom but the room was lovely

Review 25:The location was great, The staff and food was excellent.

Review 26:Although bar shuts down at a reasonable hour ithe noise from it could disturb someone wanting to go to to bed early! Bed extremely hard!

Review 27:Great dining room and bar

Review 28:Our room was advertised as a small double but didn't have any wardrobe space and the only place to sit was the toilet. The Bell should put a single bed in the room and call it a single. There wasn't even enough floor space to pass each other.

Review 29:Stow itself was very nice

Review 30:It was a bit noisy until the pub closed but then we did know we were booking a room over a pub, so no real complaints.

Review 31:The staff were really helpful and the location was great. Our evening meal was fantastic.

Review 32:Nothing

Review 33:The broomcupbard was a unique experience and one that we will repeat. The attention to detail was superb and all staff friendly and attentive. Breakfast was lovely with a good selection. We dined on the Friday evening and again the service and food were excellent despite the Inn being busy. Thoroughly recommend.

Review 34:I didn't quite expect the room to be that small. It is called the 'broom cupboard' - and that is what it is .. a room filled with a bed. But if all you need is a bed - as you are outwalking or like me at a wedding it is perfectly fine.

Review 35:Super friendly and helpful staff. Lovely breakfast - had Eggs Royal they were grand - lots of coffee. Breakfast buffet could do with some fruit or fruit salad. Nespresso coffee machine in room and fresh short-bread was lovely. Shower and bathroom were tiny but clean and modern.

Review 36:The pub itself is on a rather busy road and can be quite noisy. The pillows weren't that comfy but not a massive issue. Also the food is a little on the pricy side

Review 37:The coffee machine in the room was a bonus my husband loved it. The rooms were a nice size. And the Town is very pleasant.

Review 38:We booked a Sunday night which was music night in the bar I had not been aware of this when booking. It was supposed to be acoustic but the bass was very loud in our room and I am partially deaf! I managed to drown it out with tv but would have preferred to read. The music was very loud in my daughters room and I had phoned to say she was bringing her 20 month toddler. My son in law one of my daughters and I would have gone and listened to the music but the bar was very crowded and there was nowhere to sit.

Review 39:Location and the fact that music stopped at 10

Review 40:Slightly grubby paintwork (especially around light sockets) and some chipped away under window in bedroom. Downstairs toilets need a repaint. Breakfast tasted nice but was a little dry (bacon was hard - not crispy hard) and there were not any beans. Only enough milk was given for one cup each even though we had one coffee and a teapot of tea. The room was lovely however the noise above the bar carried on till closing time and we heard packing up tables etc very loudly. We understand we would hear some noise being a bar downstairs but we think there's a gap in the floor by the right side of the headboard as we could hear conversations loudly and clearly wherever we were in the room - might be worth a check when you have a busy bar time.

Review 41:Staff were wonderful, the evening meal was delicious, the interior of the hotel was cosy and relaxed.

Review 42:It was the smallest room I have ever encountered.... and we travel a lot and stay in boutique hotels. Even though it states a small double it would have been a very small single room at best

Review 43:Nice place in a great location and an excellent English pub

Review 44:It did not bother us but there s inevitable noise from the bar till about 11.30pm

Review 45:Customer service - all staff were friendly & genuinely interested in us & our comfort. Meals - breakfast (included), lunch and dinner were excellent. The room - spacious, large comfortable bed & good linen. Cleanliness - impeccable.

Review 46:A little noisy from the bar below although very quiet after the patrons had gone home.

Review 47:The room was great and the shower had good pressure and lots of hot water. Enjoyed the TV before bed. Great menu, cozy bar. Great central location. Hospitable owner.

Review 48:only bad thing was fridge in room is located in the wardrobe next to the bed (not good planning) and was noisy, but soon sorted by pulling the plug!

Review 49:Lovely friendly staff, overall was a spacious room (just awkward to get in to), clean and comfortable

Review 50:Slightly overpriced. It was a little noisy in the evenings above the bar. The décor is a little tired and the carpets dirty. Shower was not very powerful.

Review 51:Cosy hotel with helpful, friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Good breakfast. Port and shortbread left in room was a lovely touch.

Review 52:A cosy and welcoming pub, with super friendly staff, serving lovely food. We stayed at their sister property Stuart House (amazing place to stay; 3mins walk from The Bell) and enjoyed a great breakfast at the Bell every day. Do not miss this pub when you visit Stow-on-the-Wold!

Review 53:Very friendly helpful staff. Great food and a nice comfy room even though it was 'THE BROOM CUPBOARD', very quirky. Great location as only a few min's walk from the town.

Review 54:Staff turned up late for breakfast shift and the personal touch seems to have gone. Not as clean and tidy as we have come expect.

Review 55:Great location Good food Comfortable rooms

Review 56:Our stay at The Bell at Stow was our favorite stop over in the UK this past May. People were warm and welcoming and the food was excellent. Our room was right over the pub and one night we heard the patrons below us enjoying the evening. We didn't find it annoying, though. It felt more like we were part of the family.

Review 57:The luggage like bedside table was a bit of a menace. Not enough flat areas.

Review 58:Room was not large but very comfortable. Excellent meal in restaurant. Staff very attentive. Would return.

Review 59:Not a bad comment but an observation, bacon and sausages at breakfast seemed to have been kept warm or overcooked as they were quite dry. But the restaurant meals in the evening were excellent.

Review 60:Location amazing, extremely comfortable and the staff were friendly and very competent.

Review 61:the room we had was a good size, only problem the bed seemed to slope, one pillow put under mattress job done, light carpet which could do with a shampoo.

Review 62:extremely friendly staff, we enjoyed the breakfast. a nice weekend stay. the room was a decent size, would stay here again.

Review 63:Variable quality of breakfast from ok to good, both service and food. Bar shuts at 11pm and on the night we were in the premises at that time no 'last orders' were called and no dispensation for being resident was made.

Review 64:In general a good experience, but some small details detract from that over all. Good cleanliness, well provisioned room, good location, though.

Review 65:Make sure you have a light of some sort if you are to return after pub hours as entry keypad is in total darkness (unless you wish to wait for several cars to pass to be sure where the required buttons are).

Review 66:Great smart and fresh room. Great arrival freebies and an excellent location.

Review 67:A little noisy in your room as it's an old property

Review 68:They had thought of everything even A carafe of port in your room along with a lovely coffee machine. Excellent staff. Fab food. all round lovely hotel x

Review 69:Nothing!

Review 70:Rosie our hostess was so helpful and friendly. The rest of the staff was great as well. The bar took pride in making me a Pimms Cup that was like an English Mai Tai ! Our dinner on Sunday night was so good: Bangers/Mash, Filet of Sole. Loved hearing the sing along from our room! Room & bath were great with room for all our stuff. The English breakfasts (incl) were also great.

Review 71:No bad experiences

Review 72:I loved this little room, but would recommend it only for singles. Very well equipped, good bathroom. Staff very helpful, food good.

Review 73:The bed wasn't very comfortable and the shower was a bit temperamental. Worst was the noisy, drunken fellow guests.

Review 74:Breakfast was great and the staff couldn't do enough.

Review 75:A bit noisy in the mornings when people are having their breakfast with the scraping of chairs!

Review 76:Great location,not far from town, lovely rooms,(we got a free upgrade,result).

Review 77:The car park is tiny so had to park on the street but no problem really

Review 78:The extra touches shortbread and port in the room! Top quality shampoo etc really nicely done everything

Review 79:Nothing of importance

Review 80:We stayed in the Broom Cupboard Room. Small very well equipped and OK for one night.. Both the dinner and breakfast were good. Cannot find fault..

Review 81:Only needing to stay one night.

Review 82:The welcome was warm and the staff always attentive. The facilities were beautifully clean and a piping hot shower (at last !). Food was top notch and the local brews very inviting. Top marks for the complimentary Port in the room !

Review 83:Small gripe with the Wifi not available in the room.

Review 84:Great location, Stow is very picturesque. Restaurant food is very good. Generous rooms with every comfort.

Review 85:Room 4 has a major issue - it stinks of deep fryer/cooking smells!!! (My coat/scarf/jumper still smell and need drycleaning). The helpful girl mentioned that they had previously had an issue in this regard and she thought there might be a fault in the ducting. I woke at 5am feeling really ill due to the cooking oil smell. Didn't set me up well for my meeting!! Other minor probs: TV on the blink, WIFI not connecting properly, shower leaked, bathroom light permanently on.

Review 86:The staff - one girl in particular (who found me some toothpaste!) - were very helpful. Breakfast was excellent, the lamb I ate for supper was really nicely done and the beer was also very good. The shower was very refreshing and the bed was comfortable.

Review 87:The staff were all really friendly. Mostly young girls who were professional and smiling and couldn't do enough for us. Beautiful bathroom and bedroom decor. Lots of choices for breakfast and lovely evening meal. Great.

Review 88:Would have liked more choice of cereals at breakfast.

Review 89:Friendly and efficient staff. Good food, reasonably priced wine. The Gin blackboard (a nice touch!), Comfortable room. Fresh milk (not that stuff in little pots!). General atmosphere.

Review 90:The corridor outside the room smelt of hospitals and made everything including our cloths smell the same. We were in the broom cupboard which was really small, but ok for a couple of nights, and we had been warned before our arrival, by the Bell just how small the room was. The view could have been better, obscured by black plastic bags and piles of roof tiles.

Review 91:Perfect location with a friendly, lively atmosphere. Great for a drink before dinner. Breakfast was good, with generous portions and good choice. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We did not find parking an issue as there always seemed to be room just outside.

Review 92:Whole building was very warm, so we had to have the window open all night. Come 6am, the busy road noise woke us up, however if we had had the window shut, I don't think we would have noticed through the glass. Just one of those things.

Review 93:Room was lovely, good size and furnished in a modern style with a traditional twist. Great finishing touches with the complimentary port and shortbread, plus hair straighteners! Food was excellent, both in the pub for dinner and the huge breakfast in the morning. Staff very friendly and efficient. Would recommend to other couples.

Review 94:Having workmen outside our window at 8am was poor. As a result we couldn't open blind in the room or bathroom which made it very warm in such a small space.

Review 95:All facilities were very good & whilst tiny doesn't do it justice, it was very comfortable

Review 96:The mattress wasn't too great but the bedding was very nice and things like the fresh milk and complimentary water were really lovely. The staff couldn't have been nicer.

Review 97:Not being able to dine one night. we did not book a table, but thought as we had dined the previous evening, it would be automatic, our fault not checking if we needed a reservation as we were residents.

Review 98:Friendly staff Good Food Small, but very good bedrooms extras, like shortbread, and port and quality coffee and teas very good shower excellent toiletries

Review 99:8 hours of loud heavy bass beat "music" so loud could not hear the tv in the room. Forced to stay only one night couldn't stand the noise. Loud speakers in the ceiling of the bar below.

Review 100:Staff and food excellent. Bedroom comfortable

Review 101:Shower temperature a bit fiddly but got there in the end

Review 102:The Bell...fantastic food, friendly yet competent and efficient staff, great atmosphere. The rooms lovely with welcome extras like port and shortbread made it a real treat. Will definitely return.

Review 103:Roof being replaced at the time of visit, no notice given. Didn't really impact on stay, but what parking there was,was reduced by workmen and equipment.

Review 104:Very welcoming, food excellent perfectly placed to go exploring around the Cotswolds

Review 105:Whiilst menu for evening meals looked promising -the food did not quite come up to expectation

Review 106:Very friendly welcome. Nice touch- home mde shortbread to have with hot drink and fresh milk/ bottled water provided in fridge - included

Review 107:The breakfast was rather tasteless - poached eggs and mushrooms. Supper bit relentless in its sameness. Risotto which wasn't risotto. Would have preferred smaller portion of risotto and some vegetables.

Review 108:Very friendly and excellent service. Music was fun. Ambience very good.

Review 109:Entirely our own fault for booking what we knew was a small room so when my boyfriend wanted to get out of bed he had to climb over me and wake me up!! The other rooms appeared much bigger though and all were very nicely decorated.

Review 110:The pub was lovely, we had a great meal listening to live music on Sunday evening. Breakfast was really nice and all the staff were very friendly- they couldn't do enough.

Review 111:Parking facilities not very good only had small car park which was also used by pub customers so parking place not guaranteed.

Review 112:Really nice welcoming pub, room very clean with good shower, nice touches with selection of shortbreads and a fridge. breakfasts fine. staff friendly and helpful. would recommend having evening meals at the pub, good quality and service.

Review 113:Lovely decor very contemporary. Welcome tray exceptional, port and shortbread very nice touch. Good nights sleep followed by a fantastic breakfast served by very friendly staff.

Review 114:It can be a little noisy in the rooms in the late evening but it is a pub and adds to the atmosphere.

Review 115:Great food and atmosphere. Rooms are well appointed. Staff extremely friendly and efficient

Review 116:Hated the broom cupboard.... we had one night in a lovely room and then the second night in the broom cupboard. I never slept all night from the noise of the kitchen fans then they went off and then they came on about three in the morning for about half an hour. It was soooo small impossible for two people would have rather paid more and got a larger room.

Review 117:It was lovely the rooms were clean with everything you need... The food amazing and the staff were so friendly and very helpful

Review 118:absolutely nothing to mention here - everything was just great in this place

Review 119:very clean and cosy place, the location, interior and the inn building itself were just fabulous, and we were absolutely happy with our stay, even though it was in the tiniest Broom Cupboard that they have - go for it if you want cosiness. And very helpful and nice staff.

Review 120:Interesting point: I think nothing in particuar niggled so we did not register anything.

Review 121:We just enjoyed our visit. Really friendly atmosphere and seriously competent management. Great!

Review 122:too hot. No fan. Couldn't open the windows because of kitchen smells. No space at all for putting even a washbag, or a shelf for suitcase . . . so entry and exit from room becomes a trip over farce in the Marx brothers style.

Review 123:good value

Review 124:Slightly noisy in our room above the bar but it is a pub. Having to leave.

Review 125:The very attentive well trained staff. The clean and well equipped bathroom The excellent breakfast. The superb evening meal The well priced wine list Everything everything everything....

Review 126:we liked everything!

Review 127:The superior rooms were really comfortable with nice touches such as port and shortbread in the room!

Review 128:Brilliant place, have been once previously and enjoyed so much we had to go back. Lovely bedrooms and v good food

Review 129:Friendly staff, good food and a great location

Review 130:Fudge in room?way to nice, staff, upgrade thank you

Review 131:the size of the room meant that it was only suitable for short stays.

Review 132:The staff were very friendly and anxious to help.

Review 133:Great rooms and location.

Review 134:Great staff, great rooms, great food and great location.

Review 135:Lovely Cotswold Inn with great food and beer for lunch and a short walk into the town square.
