Reviews for Woodland Guesthouse
Review 1:Dog barking in the garden from the early hours
Review 2:Location was wonderful. The owner was a lovely woman very helpful and the room was delightful with beautiful views
Review 3:The room was noisy at night and early morning from the guests in the room above us.
Review 4:Really lovely place to stay with friendly owners. The morning breakfast was great.
Review 5:Room 5 is not the quietest room, but the place was lovely
Review 6:Great place, Molly stole the show, the friendliest puppy I've come across! If you like intimate breakfasts and chatting to strangers then this place is for you!
Review 7:nothing
Review 8:The fact it wasn't part of a chain of hotels and it was small and relaxing. the breakfast was one of the best I have tasted and in a god location for the Cotswolds
Review 9:Good location, lovely room, very clean. Amanda was very helpful in recommending places to eat and visit. Excellent breakfast, we had a wonderful time.
Review 10:we had to wait in our vehicle when we got there as there was no-one there ,room was freezing cold ,cracked tiles on bathroom floor ,fittings dusty, shower head broken, water in shower tray not draining away properly so when showering your standing in over an inch of water
Review 11:the breakfast was very goog
Review 12:Very small room for 2 single beds. Poor plumbing. We were told we would be moved to a larger, nicer room but then told that wouldn't be possible. We had to point out things that needed to be repaired and cleaned.
Review 13:The surrounding area was beautiful.
Review 14:Being treated a little like a schoolboy for not parking perfectly after a 4 hour drive, my wife spoken to as if we had not returned a borrowed torch and abruptly told not to put the iron on a wooden surface...as if I would have done !
Review 15:Lovely helpful welcome from Rob, fantastic area, lovely food and spotless accommodation.
Review 16:Parking was tight but, with a little mutual understanding, not an insurmountable problem.
Review 17:Amanda was wonderful; nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was a revelation not to be missed! This was probably helped by the charm and friendliness of the other guests with whom we shared a table - with miserable fellow guests the experience would have been less delightful.
Review 18:The small twin bedroom wasn't so suitable for an elderly couple one of whom has difficulty moving about. No room for a bedside table and beds a bit too low to get into and out of easily. There is a walk in shower but it was all rather cramped.
Review 19:Amanda is so welcoming and helpful. We have stayed here before in a better room but I left booking this break rather late. We could have swapped and stayed long after the weekend but we had to leave.
Review 20:Awkward driveway to turn into, the walk to the village was a little scary at times as some had to be done on the road [50 mph speed limit ], but a pleasant distance.
Review 21:Friendly staff, good breakfast, comfy bed , nice bathroom.
Review 22:Rob & Amanda were so friendly & welcoming.Loved the banter at breakfast with Rob.Also really appreciated there local tips of where to dine & sites too see.
Review 23:Breakfast was very ordinary. Not keen on my fruit salad already served in individual bowls. Like to help myself. Would have liked another choice of fruit . No real alternatives if you did not want a cooked breakfast--muffins or croissants would have been nice. Yoghurt was very basic.
Review 24:I loved the setting and location of Woodlands Guesthouse. My room was comfortable and bathroom adequate. Amanda was friendly and helpful and the breakfasts were great. A very enjoyable stay.
Review 25:Woodland is as pretty as the picture. I was welcomed when I arrived and had a most comfortable room on the ground floor, looking out on the well kept garden. The only sound was the the odd bleat of a lamb. It is well positioned for touring in the Cotswolds. Very nice lady owner.
Review 26:As well-travelled international visitors we unfortunately found the Host&Hostesses attitudes and behaviour unacceptable at times& their moods erratic over a 7 night pre-booked stay. Their cancellation fee is 100%. Room was cramped&stuffy; en-suite shower totally inadequate water pressure& flow. These things are mentioned in numerous other reviews. The driveway entrance is on a blind-bend and parking crowded, at times shifting of cars needed to get in/out. The only common area was a sofa located by the front door in the entrance;the breakfast room was unable to seat all guests at once during the 1hr allocated for serving breakfast from 8-9am. Some guests had to wait until 9am, more than once, for breakfast. "Fruit salad" on several mornings was slices of watermelon & some mornings did not appear to be enough for all guests. The hostess is intolerant of travelling guests hanging hand washing to drip-dry neatly over the bath in en-suite bathroom, and gave an inappropriate lecture about this within hearing of guests in the breakfast room. She later said damage "to fittings" had been caused by the wet weight of the clothes which had not happened, because I had made absolutely sure this would not occur. I also ensured that there was not going to be any water drips on the floor to cause a hazard to her. Prior to her lecture about wet clothes, she had not let me know I could use her "private" outdoor clothes line. Amanda charges £4.50 per load of washing, but when I gave her a small amount to wash, as a trial, it was returned after 2 days flecked with washing powder and lint, which wasn't satisfactory.
Review 27:Scenic, rural location. Country views, pleasant bird song, sounds of sheep in nearby fields and fresh air. Comfortable bed with linens changed twice during our 7 night stay-a nice touch. Iron and ironing-board available on request. Great food at local pub at The Golden Ball(short drive)& nice restaurants&food at The Vine Leaf& The Old Butchers in Stowe-on-the -Wold. Handy supermarket in Stowe. Good location for driving to attractions in the beautiful Cotswolds.
Review 28:Nothing.
Review 29:Amanda and her husband are so welcoming and friendly. The house is beautifully kept. They have two puppies who are gorgeous and which Amanda clearly loves. We were advised to eat at the local pub which was great and very accommodating for my vegetarian daughter!
Review 30:We really enjoyed staying with Amanda and Rob they are fantastic hosts. And their two furry friends are simply gorgeous. Great setting, lovely home only a short distance from Stow.
Review 31:Shower pressure needs attention. A bit disappointing. Parking is a bit tight with guests competing for parking availability with owners vehicles.
Review 32:Located out of Upper Swell,so it is very quiet but well placed for touring the Cotswolds. Friendly owners make your stay in their house enjoyable
Review 33:Beautiful location, Amanda & Rob were very friendly. Room was lovely, comfy bed & good views. Breakfast was very nice and there was enough to eat. The two pubs that Amanda & Rob recommended for our evening meals were outstanding. All in all we had a wonderful two nights there and would definitely go back again.
Review 34:The toilet seat would not stand up.
Review 35:Convenient location for all of the Cotswolds - the walk (1.3 miles) to Stow was lovely and of reasonable length and safe with care. Good food to be found at the Talbot as well as other places.
Review 36:Car park with exit on to busy road. Host's welcome unfriendly. Very small room with dustbin outside window. Tasteless bacon and unripe melon. Cold towel rail.
Review 37:The nice clean bath and bedroom.
Review 38:Small-ish room & bathroom. Shower not powerful enough & dodgy temperature control. Rather "superior" attitude of owner.
Review 39:Convenient Cotswold location.
Review 40:First night was in very tiny bedredoom. Could not both watch television, and little space to put cases, but moved to much nicer room next day.
Review 41:Very friendly and helpful owners
Review 42:Your stated distance of 0.7 miles to the centre of town is wholly inaccurate. (It is 1.4 miles). We had planned to walk into Stow, but this was not feasible, given the distance and on a dangerous road with a footpath for only part of the route and a steep uphill climb to the town.
Review 43:The room was comfortable. Good breakfast.
Review 44:Nothing
Review 45:Good location for visiting gardens/ National trust properties in the area Breakfast good, room comfy We had read reviews that said husband was rude, we did NOT find him so at all so do not be put off by these reviews
Review 46:Being a mature couple could have done with a lounge area to sit in instead of bedroom. Could have sat in garden but weather not good enough.
Review 47:Good breakfasts. Enjoyed "banter" round the table with different nationalities. Amanda very welcoming and helpful.
Review 48:The shower in our room was a little weak but had a lovely large cubicle in a large bathroom.
Review 49:Breakfast was excellent. Hostess was very pleasant. Bed was very comfortable. Wifi useful.
Review 50:The water pressure in the shower (Room No. 3) was quite low. Otherwise, everything was in order!
Review 51:The location of the B&B was perfect: easily accessible from Moretin-in-Marsh by car (or bike if you're slightly more ambitious) and nearby Stow-on-the-Wold was the picture of Cotswold charm. Amanda was friendly and accommodating when we arrived early and let us leave our things at the B&B while we toured the area on our bikes. The room itself was clean, comfortable and very pleasant. I haven't slept better in years! Breakfast was hearty and enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it for a lovely weekend escape.
Review 52:Amanda was super nice and suggested a lot of great things to do in the area. It was pretty easy to find and the property is beautiful. Breakfast was really good!!! Definitely suggest staying here!
Review 53:The husband/owner was very unfriendly and miserable.
Review 54:Perfectly nice guesthouse. Clean and comfortable. Nice breakfast. The wife was sweet and accommodating.
Review 55:Windows in room either opened very wide or had to stay shut - nothing inbetween! Shower rather weak.
Review 56:Lovely room. Relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful location. Excellent breakfast.
Review 57:Loved everything about our stay. Nothing to dislike.
Review 58:Beautiful homely guest house in pictureque village. Warm & cosy room with very comfortable bed. Delicious breakfasts. Extremely friendly host, made us feel very welcome. Will definately visit again & recommend to family & Friends.
Review 59:The towels were like sandpaper and the shower was very feeble. Toilet seat was very wobbly!
Review 60:Excellent view from room. Guesthouse was lovely and big and spacious. Amanda the owner was friendly and well knowledged
Review 61:The walk to the town centre is precarious as there aren't many pavements / footpaths do be careful as its a national speed limit road in places. Takes about 20 minutes to walk as a little up hill.
Review 62:Was wonderful setting, a beautiful guest house and very accessible. The owner was very friendly and the breakfast was excellent.
Review 63:Shower. Either scalding hot with decent water pressure or decent temperature with low water pressure.
Review 64:Excellent stay. Kind and jovial owners. Great breakfast. Free parking.
Review 65:My room was rather small. It had two single beds, but no room for a table, chair or bedside table. It was really only large enough for a single room.
Review 66:Owners were very friendly and helpful. Location was convenient. Parking possible on property.
Review 67:Room was very cold. Heating came on as we were going out and was off when we got back. We could not get room warm.
Review 68:Very comfortable bed. Breakfast was first class.
Review 69:Wifi didn't work from the bedroom we stayed in.
Review 70:Hosts were lovely, gave us awesome advice on where to go. We were warmly welcomed. Property had everything we needed.
Review 71:There attention to detail and welcoming. They made us feel as if they were their only guests even though every room has taken. Nothing was too much.
Review 72:The shower was especially poor in our bedroom and our friends. The owners really need to improve on this for the price they are charging for the accommodation. However they were really helpful and very informative. We had a wonderful stay.
Review 73:Our room was on the small size but adequate and an improved shower would be a benefit.
Review 74:Our hosts made an ideal team and I feel complimented each other. The breakfast was generous and good. Amanda also helped with some laundry as our time was limited. This was very much appreciated. I would recommend to friends.
Review 75:Nothing a great stay
Review 76:We had read all the other feedback notes and found some of the negative points quite amusing. This is our view Hosts Rob and Amanda 20 out of 10 you made us so welcome we felt we were your family thanks for taking us out. Local knowledge All the places they mapped out for us were well worth a visit and the two local pubs served great food. Our Room A great view of the countryside, a bath and a shower you don't need Niagara falls when you shower the Towels were not hard at all. A nice size room with plenty of storage space. Pillow options firm and soft so you can make a perfect combination. the bed was very comfortable even for myself who is very tall. Breakfast You will not go hungry here plenty of options and if you ask nicely you can have a breakfast Taylor made. Location Perfect for all the local villages and very quiet. Parking Enough room for all guest cars. Overall a very enjoyable visit you will be crazy not to stay at Woodlands it was worth the drive just to meet the hosts. Thank you both for a great break please stay in touch PJ and Carol x
Review 77:Lack of power in the shower.
Review 78:Personal attention and freedom to come and go as one pleased.Owners very friendly and helpful.Food excellent.Situation very restful.
Review 79:I did feel that the pillows were rather hard and too high and so although the actual bed was very comfortable and snug, I did have a bit of a stiff neck in the morning. Otherwise everything was fine.
Review 80:We were warmly welcomed upon arrival and we were given very helpful information as to where we could have a meal in the evenings. The location of the property was excellent and we loved the ambience of the house. Everyone was very friendly and we felt quite at home. The choice for breakfast was very good even though we chose to just have cereal, fruit and toast. All in all we had a lovely time.
Review 81:Would have been good to have some sort of desk/table to put my computer on - it's probably not a place catering primarily for business people, but it would have helped me. Would have been good to have the choice between smoked and unsmoked bacon. (Smoked was served, which I don't really like, and wouldn't have ordered it if I'd known). Signage outside isn't brilliant at night - I was right outside, and could see the sign, but couldn't read the name on the board!! Minor points though.
Review 82:Breakfast was good. Standard of cleanliness was very high, and room was a good size. Nice breakfast. Owner was tolerant of me arriving late due to being held up at an earlier meeting.
Review 83:If I were to really nitpick, next time I would take my own pillow, but that is a very personal thing anyway.
Review 84:This place was calm, quiet, comfortable. clean, cosy and very welcoming. I would happily stay again.
Review 85:Lovely owners, Amanda and Rob went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Booked dinner at a local pub for us, provided advise on what to see and do and even washed and hung our laundry. Great breakfast with the best mushrooms. Fantastic location.
Review 86:Very friendly owners who made us feel welcome and at home. Excellent knowledge of local area. Clean, bright double room with comfortable bed. A lovely puppy called Rosie!
Review 87:Lovely house and we had a peaceful and comfortable room. Breakfast was excellent. Owners kindly chilled our wine so it was cold for us to enjoy when we got back to our room after dinner
Review 88:Our room was somewhat cramped. With 2 adults 2suitcases & 2 backpacks, 2 beds, 2 chairs,2 nightstands,a large wardrobe & a small chest of drawers there was barely enough room to turn around. Recommend they at least lose the chairs. But this is nitpicking.
Review 89:Great location just outside of Stow on the World. Amanda, the proprietress, could not have been more gracious or helpful. I would recommend to friends.
Review 90:Everything about the Woodland Guest House is great. The hosts were wonderful people very helpful and suggested great places to see and eat. Can't recommend this venue highly enough.
Review 91:Not much room to put luggage
Review 92:Warm welcome, easy to find in a good location, ground floor room, comfortable bed. Amanda and Rob invited me to go with them on a ride-out that evening to a bike meet near Tewksbury, Thankyou and even supplied some petrol when I ran out!!!
Review 93:Cramped room.
Review 94:Location is central to Cotswolds. Friendly and helpful owners, Clean functional room but very cramped. Good breakfast. Lots of suggestions for activities.
Review 95:Nothing!
Review 96:Minutes from Stowe on a quiet road. Great location for visiting the Cotswolds. Lovely home and grounds, comfy and beautiful bedroom with all the amenities including a huge spa tub. Breakfast was amazing. A choice of several entrees plus fresh cut up fruit, yogurts, cold cereal, coffee, tea, juice. The works! Would stay here again and highly recommend it. Owner Rob did a great job taking care of us and had some great suggestions. Oh, another perk is all the apples you can eat!
Review 97:There was nothing i didn't like about Woodland guesthouse.
Review 98:Amanda and Rob are very welcoming, very knowlegable, about the area for ideas where to visit and eat out.they do lovely cooked breakfasts the, rooms are of a high standard clean and fresh .I would Highly recommend a visit to Woodlands guesthouse and hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did.
Review 99:Bed too small for my 6'7" frame. No fault of the proprietor.
Review 100:Beautiful quiet setting in a beautiful part of the world & the service to go with it!
Review 101:Very low water pressure to upper room shower, toilet etc.
Review 102:Quiet location with easy access to regional attractions. Friendly, helpful hostess with excellent knowledge of local attractions. Comprehensive breakfast menu in pleasant dining room. Excellent views from room windows plus surrounding rear gardens.
Review 103:The only thing that I was frustrated with was the shower (room 1) - very poor pressure and either scalding hot or nothing. This really does need some serious improvement.
Review 104:Great breakfast, comfy bed, clean room, pleasant owners (I don't know what other guests problem is - they weren't rude at all!)
Review 105:very rough towels difficult to use without discomfort shower fixing poor hard to control direction of water
Review 106:good choice of breakfast clean and comfortable nicely furnished
Review 107:You said it was 8.6 miles from Blenheim Palace, but it was actualy18 miles at least.
Review 108:Very comfortable room in lovely house. Good breakfast and service.
Review 109:Décor was a bit tired and general appearance of the place a bit run down.
Review 110:Great setting, very peaceful yet just a few minutes drive from all the amenities in.Stow
Review 111:Location was not within walking distance to Stow on the Wold. Too noisy, could other guests TV. Doors slamming shut early in the morning. Proprietors arguing before breakfast over building work. Shower didn't work. Parking an issue.
Review 112:The breakfast was great
Review 113:No-one there to greet us, (about 5pm) a note left on the door to go in and the hostess would be back soon. Should have known something was odd as a sign in the hallway stated "here lives a grumpy old man and a lovely lady" Still no-one about at 7.pm so went out for dinner in Stow on the wold. When we returned a police car and a police van were in driveway and we were told to park on drive and hostess would move her car. she continued to sit in car for a further two hours, opposite. We eventually went to bed, still not having spoken properly to the owners. Next morning our hostess put on a superb breakfast, we paid and left.
Review 114:Wonderful breakfast
Review 115:Clutter in rooms and hallway. Bathroom - water pressure was poor, towels were unusually scratchy Not a good welcome although over the time we stayed there was noticeable improvemeht.
Review 116:The fruit salad at breakfast was very good
Review 117:The room is so small you can hardley move. The flush of the toilet did not work The shower is not good You get all the odours of the neigbors bathroom. Had to be paid in cash. Bad experience
Review 118:Not much
Review 119:Beautiful location & views - the countryside is gorgeous, quiet and peaceful. Necessary to have a car to drive to dinner options but of course everyone who visits the Cotswolds to stay would have a car anyway.
Review 120:The hostess was kind enough to give us a lift to the nearest town - she was very helpful. The place was in a lovely location and as neat as a new pin.
Review 121:The husband was a little un welcoming when we arrived, and quite blunt with us.
Review 122:The location was great and the building was beautiful, the lady running it was lovely, nice breakfast.
Review 123:The Double bed room was cramped with little wardrobe space or sitting area. Water pressure to shower and toilet was poor. This is not acceptable when away from home considering the cost of room.
Review 124:room was good but not exceptional for the price paid
Review 125:location, staff were very helpful
Review 126:Small dining room
Review 127:Friendly staff, lovely location
Review 128:The hospitality, the location in the Cotswold and away from the rush and bustle.
Review 129:Wonderful location and hospitality. Rob and Amanda are lovely people, very pleasant and helpful. They made me feel so at home that I am still here!
Review 130:Everything
