Reviews for Number Four at Stow

Review 1:As it was about 100 yards from the wedding we were attending, the location was ideal. The room was very clean if a little cramped & the staff were very helpful. As is the case with hotels in this area, the rates are not cheap (£260 for 2 nights), however, it was a lovely wee hotel.

Review 2:Restaurant relatively expensive for what you receive

Review 3:We stayed for 4 nights in November Staff were very helpful Rooms are modern clean and comfortable I would come back to this hotel when in the cotwoldd

Review 4:Shame that the room was a little small. We had a baby with us and it was a tight squeeze. Would be nice to have more vegetarian choice in the hotel restaurant

Review 5:Excellent location and staff were lovely.

Review 6:Didn't sleep well , people above us moving around all night, very creaky floor boards, the first night it started 03.40 the second night at 1.10, our friends next door had the same experience. We were in rooms 108 and110 , it did rather spoil our stay

Review 7:The hotel was spotless and the staff were very pleasant

Review 8:The staff were very friendly and always attentive to our needs. The hotel was really relaxing and a perfect country getaway. The bed was really comfortable and we both managed to catch up on deep sleep.

Review 9:Poor communication from the hotel and we felt it was a tad overpriced. We emailed the hotel and received no response. When we called I was told I would receive a call back from a manager but this never happened

Review 10:Clean rooms Freshly cooked breakfast

Review 11:Pillows are too soft and thin. Room is too small to move around. Can't even pull out the dressing table chair without hitting the bed. For £130 per night, one would except at least a decent size room. Moreover, we arrived on a rainy monday and was told we have to source our dinner out of the hotel as their Kitchen is closed for business for the day. Definitely not a good first impression especially for the amount we paid. Breakfast selection is pathetic as practically not much to choose from but the price charged is extortionate to what is being offered.

Review 12:Comfortable bed and some helpful and smiley staffs. Good parking spaces.

Review 13:Absolutely nothing!!

Review 14:Everything! Particularly the exceptionally helpful concierge that found and booked us a local restaurant whilst we were on route to the hotel. Breakfast was incredible!!

Review 15:We did not like the bedding, the duvet was in the centre of the bed , so it moved with you and sometimes you just lost it as it ended up OnThe other side of the bed. Not as comfortable as I or my friend would have liked

Review 16:Very relaxing with beatiful views. The food was superb. Staff were friendly helpful and very well trained. The hotel was central which made it easier to travel in the surrounding area.

Review 17:We requested a double bed which was two single beds pushed together which is perfectly acceptable but for the first time ever for us there were two single duvets on the bed!! I explained at reception that we required a double duvet but was told they would try to get one for us which they did, if they had failed as they indicated there were not enough for all the doubles I would have been more than annoyed. The staff were most helpful and the front door was opened each time we arrived

Review 18:Breakfast excellent probably the best we have had anywhere Room not big but acceptable very clean lovely shower everything that you would require for a nights stay

Review 19:The only piece of negative feedback was in regard to the bedding. We would have preferred a large duvet for the bed rather than 2 single ones.

Review 20:The staff were wonderful. So friendly and very attentive. The room was very clean and lovely décor. Having complimentary water in the room as well as tea and coffee facilities was a lovely touch. The restaurant attached to the hotel was 1st class and worth every penny. Would definitely return again.

Review 21:The food was too expensive. We didn't realise that the hotel was sandwiched between two roads, one busy main road into Stow with traffice lights just outside our window. We heard the traffic through the night. We didn't stay for our planned 3rd night. Booked out the second evening. Just didn't fancy another noisy night.

Review 22:The staff were lovely. The food was excellent. The restaurant was nicely decorated. Everything was lovely and clean.

Review 23:Hard bed 2 Single duvets on a king size bed doesn't make for a comfortable sleep Velux window so no views.

Review 24:Excellent staff. Amazingly clean everywhere. Small rooms and second floor rooms have velux windows so no views. Road is noisy at night and first thing in the morning. Breakfasts were 100% and we would definitely return!

Review 25:It's tiny bit out of town (25min walk) however, the hotel and staff make up for it.

Review 26:Fantastic staff and attention to detail, Chef is excellent as it the owner/ manager.

Review 27:This is a well run hotel operation. The ownership/ management is very involved resulting in an attentive staff and a hotel that is concerned about the guest overall experience, The dinner in the restaurant was very good.

Review 28:Not much atmosphere in the restaurant, although we did dine late.

Review 29:Wonderful service, great breakfast, very comfy bed and clean bathroom. Full size fridge was appreciated. Restaurant served fantastic food.

Review 30:There was noisy machinery in the roof above our room - maybe air conditioning or heating system. It continued even at 2:30 am

Review 31:We liked the pleasant staff, the all round cleanliness and the food at dinner and breakfast.

Review 32:My main criticism was the ventilation in our bedroom. The room had a distinct stuffy smell on entering and I was unable to sleep due to a lack of fresh air. In the end I opened the window in the sitting room but then had to put up with the traffic noise on the busy road

Review 33:Staff helpful and welcoming.

Review 34:Hotel was right next to a very busy road. Noisy level is considerably high so make sure you request for a room further away from the road. Twin room is really small with compact bathroom. Only one person should walk around at any time failing which you will knock into each other.

Review 35:Free parking and plenty of lots. Food is great! You must have dinner there at least on one night.

Review 36:Nothing

Review 37:The location was great Stow-on-the-Wold USA wonderful trip back to how the towns and villages used to be The room was fine The restaurant was excellent and the staff were great

Review 38:No elevator which could be a problem.

Review 39:The friendly international staff and the owner welcomed us. The food was delicious and the room very comfortable.

Review 40:Our only criticism is due to experiencing some difficulty in getting in bath/shower but our joints are to blame I guess..

Review 41:Food, furniture and staff excellent. Could not fault the service and attention to detail.

Review 42:Probably a bit too expensive at £160 for one night. The pillows on the bed felt a bit empty and were more like sacks where the filling moved around rather than supported you.

Review 43:Very friendly staff who went out of their way to help us. Good location, half a mile from Stow, a few miles from Bourton-on-the-water and less than half hour to two large cities. Excellent breakfast.

Review 44:There is nothing to say negative about the place.

Review 45:The staff were wonderful. The room was well decorated and comfortable. Pretty views from the windows.

Review 46:Food quality was worthy of a Masterchef reward. The range of food avoided the monotony of same food same meals so there was every opportunity to vary our selections. All in all a superb experience.

Review 47:Intermittent wifi connection Greater importance and fuss made with restaurant customers than resident guests

Review 48:Quality breakfast but attention to detail missing Good location

Review 49:Non-slip bathmat in bath unattractive Would like a disposable shower hat !

Review 50:High quality furnishings Breakfast well presented and high quality Good service.

Review 51:Did not dislike anything really Yes there was some traffic noise as it is close to a main road- but it did not bother us too much. One thing I missed was the provision of shower caps in bathroom....that would have been good

Review 52:The hotel was very clean & the staff were friendly. The food was what stood out above all....exceptional !! We would definitely use again if & when we go back to the Cotswolds

Review 53:1) Small, anonymous bedroom (could have been any hotel, anywhere), felt overpriced. 2) double bed was actually two single matresses put together. 3) Duvet was made up of two single duvets (replaced with a double duvet upon request). 4) Being repeatedly asked if we wanted to make a booking at the hotel's expensive restaurant (felt rather "pushy").

Review 54:The hotel is well located, less than a mile from Stow village centre and with some nice walking routes on its doorstep. The bathroom looked very new, well maintained and was very nicely decorated.

Review 55:Disappointed I couldn't get wifi in the bedroom. Although this was not a great problem.

Review 56:Everything was good. Food was excellent, especially breakfast. Friendly staff. Hotel spotless and very tastefully decorated. Room, although not very large, was warm, cosy and comfortable.

Review 57:Cannot say, there was nothing we did not like

Review 58:Very friendly staff, breakfast was great lots of choice and very good. Rooms average size not over spacious but very comfortable and clean

Review 59:Single duvet covers (but we could have asked for a double if we'd been that bothered!)

Review 60:Helpful and friendly staff, clean and tidy room, good food, good parking, free Wi-Fi, free toiletries, lovely location.

Review 61:The bedrooms were small and a bit scruffy, there were stains on the carpet and the walls were marked and the toilet flush did not stop running and was awkward to pull. Very overpriced, £160 a night was way over the top, £100 would have been a realistic price, plus we were forced to pay on arriving which was unpleasant.

Review 62:The breakfast was excellent. The communal areas were cosy and inviting. The staff were polite and helpful.

Review 63:Off the main road, a short walk from town but not actually in town. Dinner was mediocre at best, and expensive. Breakfast was fine.

Review 64:Lovely place. Very friendly and helpful staff. Convenient location for exploring the Cotswolds.

Review 65:Room was smaller than we like , too much game on the restaurant menu

Review 66:Staff very good, wonderful breakfast, cleanliness which is so important was exceptional and the location was perfect. Thank-you very much

Review 67:The room was quite small considering the price.

Review 68:The hotel is in a good location a short distance outside Stow. The food is of a high standard and the rooms are spotless.

Review 69:Hotel was lovely although just outside of Stow it is within walking distance. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Suite was very spacious, clean, comfortable and contemporary. Restaurant was lovely had a fantastic meal on Friday night. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Review 70:Completely beyond the control of Number Four at Stow was the lack of a pavement for the 100 yard walk down the busy main road to Hyde Barn - but that's a matter for the local Council !!

Review 71:Reception was efficient & we were taken to our room without delay. Our room, no. 102, was very quiet despite proximity to main road & road junction. Room was spacious, clean with air-conditioning & well equipped. We were given fresh milk for tea-making. Full English breakfast was excellent & well-presented. Enjoyed our short stay.

Review 72:I guess my one slight thing was being near a busy road in the morning. However the beds were so comfy it didn't matter.

Review 73:From the minute you step through the door you feel like you are home. Compared to other hotels it is very nurturing. Friendly, helpful staff. A great restaurant attached. Location is great for walks and enjoying the beautiful Cotswolds. Fabulous weekend retreat.

Review 74:Could not try the resturant because fully booked both nights we was there . Had two soft drinks in the bar area and they was expensive

Review 75:All staff very friendly and polite room comfortable clean and quite

Review 76:The smallness of the room, the bathroom facilities and size

Review 77:The restaurant, the courtesy of the staff, the common areas of the hotel, the view from our window, the quietness of the locale despite being near a crossroads, the location in the Cotswolds

Review 78:Everything was fine. No problems at all.

Review 79:Staff were excellent and very helpful. Rooms were spotless and lovely with enough room for a couple. Breakfast was very good and cooked fresh. The bar area was nice to relax with a drink or sit outside in the patio area. The location was great to explore the surrounding towns and villages. I will hopefully be back again.

Review 80:Lacks atmosphere bar closes early so if your a driver and returning from visiting surrounding areas you can't get a drink in the bar and meals a bit pricey

Review 81:Very relaxing, very clean and great breakfast , in a good place for visiting, free parking

Review 82:Static showers except in the room for disabled people.

Review 83:People, place, location, size, cuisine, relaxed atmosphere, staff attentiveness, public seating areas, genuinely helpful reception and it is a non-chain hottel so lots of personal touches. Absolutely one to recommend.

Review 84:Being a young couple, we don't get to go away very often, so this was a treat for us. Both the staff and the hotel really made our break an experience, and we felt that it was money well spent. The service was personal and friendly, food amazing, and most of all the bed was the comfiest we've ever experienced!! Would definitely visit again

Review 85:We prefer sleeping with the window open at night to provide fresh air but the hotel's proximity to two busy roads made this impossible. The air con tended to shut off after a while and the room became rather stifling.

Review 86:Delicious breakfast and dinner. Very attentive service without in any way become irritating.

Review 87:Nothing to fault!

Review 88:A very high class hotel meticulously managed by sisters Caroline and Patricia Losel with help from Caroline's Mother-in-Law...a real family business! The family is assisted by an excellent head chef and together they employ, train and monitor international hospitality trainees who provide an excellent, engaging and friendly but always professional service. Thoroughly enjoyable experience which we recommend to others.

Review 89:Nothing!

Review 90:Ideal location for visiting all of the highlights of the north Cotswolds. Very friendly and helpful management and staff. Food of a very high standard. Rooms delightfully furnished with extremely comfortable beds.

Review 91:This hotel is very comfortable and attractively furnished. The owners are friendly and conscientious about making sure clients have everything they need. The in-house restaurant is excellent. I would definitely recommend Number Four at Stow.

Review 92:The long steep hill into Stow - tried once but not again! The very expensive menu which put us off eating at the hotel.

Review 93:Air conditioning Comfortable bed Lovely bathroom Very friendly and helpful staff Excellent breakfast Lovely decor and ornaments Location in terms of access to many places of interest.

Review 94:Continual Dionne Warwick sound tract morning and night. A bit monotonous, but small bother on the scale of the rest.

Review 95:Clean, fresh, well maintained rooms, patios and dining facilities.

Review 96:Nothing at all.

Review 97:The attention to detail in everything. The bedrooms, with fridge and jug of fresh milk, TV, wi-fi, separate duvets on a double bed (a rare feature), toiletries. The restaurant with outstanding quality on the menu, the staff, the breakfasts, the gardens. I could go on. First time here but not the last.

Review 98:The best hotel we had for our whole vacation, staff was fantastic. Accomodations were plush, and like new. Food in the restaurant was prepared very well and served elegantly.

Review 99:The hotel was recommended to us , and we weren't disappointed. Excellent service all round , the restaurant food was second to none. Will definitely be back.

Review 100:There was nothing we could fault with.

Review 101:This was our second time at Number Four at Stow. They remembered us and treated us like returning family. The food was excellent this time also; staff this time round excellent as well and friendly with it.

Review 102:Really the only complaint was poor internet in our room despite assurances that all would be well after a modem re-boot. Marginally better in the common areas but still not great. An upgrade is definitely needed.

Review 103:The location was great and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel has been re-furbished to a very high standard and although the rooms are not overly large, we had a comfortable and pleasurable stay. The restaurant served a very nice breakfast and dinner was excellent.

Review 104:bathroom door hangs on wrong side and another chair in bedroom would make all the difference. Perhaps the price made my eyes water a bit as the bedrooms are small!

Review 105:Staff and cleanliness. I note the German touch!

Review 106:Room upgraded to a suite which was lovely. The restaurant had a good atmosphere and the food was excellent. Staff very helpful and eager to please

Review 107:Top quality elegant friendly hotel.

Review 112:The staff were fantastic, food & wine very good.

Review 113:Helpful ,welcoming staff and superior rooms . Bathroom amazing !

Review 114:N/a

Review 115:Friendly staff and great restaurant

Review 116:Room could have been larger

Review 117:Friendliness and caring approach

Review 118:Location comfort ease of booking friendly welcome and staff

Review 119:This hotel is not in Stow, just outside but too far to walk Room very small for £170 No mirror at dressing table

Review 120:Very clean Breakfast was good

Review 121:The quality and style of everything in the hotel and the beautifully kept grounds.

Review 122:Location perfect, beautifully decorated throughout, breakfast wonderful.

Review 123:Very pleasant owners and staff. Spotlessly clean. Good food.

Review 124:Convenient location for us. Very pleasant stay - courteous staff and good breakfast!

Review 125:The hotel is next to the busy noisy road. Too expensive. The is closing at 10pm.

Review 126:Excellent breakfast. Nice room but too small for the 150 a night

Review 127:Everything
