Reviews for Higher Tideford Country House

Review 1:we cannot find fault with anything. We were looking for a home from home to relax in and we found it. This is not a modern spotlessly pristine, immaculate establishment and is more the better for it. Its a place where you can relax, feel at home and put your feet up .. once you have found it!

Review 2:If you are looking for a sterile modern characterless place without animals, then this is NOT it. It was a wonderful period house , full of charm and atmosphere with the most comfortable bed we have ever stayed in. The 3 generations of the family were friendly, charming and great company. Basil the dog is adorable. Just a perfect weekend. we cannot find fault with anything. We were looking for a home from home to relax in and we found it. Review 3:On arrival there was no B&B sign, exterior was untidy and the initial impression not very welcoming. Rooms looked as though they had not been cleaned for some time with cobwebs on doorframe, walls and windows. Breakfast was overcooked and burnt with eggs very undercooked. Had to change one room as it got infested with Cluster Flies.

Review 4:Location and people.

Review 5:There was not a thing that I disliked about this place.

Review 6:Friendly welcome in this fabulous old country house.nothing was too much trouble. My evening meal was good and my breakfast was superb. Wonderful comfortable house and I am looking forward to returning. The value for money is unbelievable. I highly recommend this establishment.

Review 7:Initially difficult to find, but once directed, and a landmark established, (The Sportsmen's Arms), access became easy.

Review 8:Warm welcome, quiet location, cooked breakfast. Rooms with balcony allowed smoking.

Review 9:Everything about the stay was a delight, from the gorgeous location of the family farm house and the character and history of the house itself, to our clean and comfortable room and bathroom. There were natural and tranquil grounds to walk in as well a pool and each morning the esteemed and distinguished Basil the spaniel greeted us for a wander around the gardens (ok so he's mad as a fish - but he's irresistible and we fell in love with him immediately). The mum and daughter hosts were lovely - friendly, warm and hospitable and went to every effort to ensure that we had everything we needed, including changing our room to one with a balcony when this became available. The breakfasts were delicious and the food plentiful, including full English, cereals, fruit and yoghurt, tasty fresh bread, even crumpets one day and a ready supply of fresh coffee or tea. The hosts, whilst not at all intrusive, were more than willing to recommend places to visit in the local area as well as booking us a table at the extremely popular (totally justified) Malsters Arms, which is located nearby. I am not particularly a fan of B and B's but I would not hesitate to rebook a stay at Tideford Country House and also recommend it to any other travellers who are looking for peace and tranquillity, comfort, rest and relaxation - oh and plenty of reading material (and a piano for anyone wishing to tinkle the ivories). Genuinely could have stayed there forever!!!

Review 10:A lock on the door would have been nice, especially since we had a sudden visitation from a disoriented guest on our third night.

Review 11:We received a lovely welcome with tea and biscuits. This is like staying with friends rather than a professionally run B and B and all the more special for that. Our deluxe King Size Room was superb with a wonderful free standing bath.We enjoyed the pool.

Review 12:The lanes to the property are very narrow and we failed to see the house a couple of times. There is a sign for Tideford House in an adjacent hedge so travellers need to keep an eye out for it

Review 13:Very comfortable house, large room with bathroom, nice homely feel - cream tea on arrival and very good breakfast. The family are very welcoming. We hope to stay again when we are next in the area.

Review 14:A bit remote from though central between Totnes and Dartmouth.

Review 15:Wonderfully interesting, friendly, welcoming home owner and family/staff. It is about experiencing Devon rather than being a tourist. You definitely get to enjoy driving 'the lanes' in Devon. Loved the dog (Basil) as well.

Review 16:Beautiful location, Beautiful country house and the proprietors went above and beyond to make my stay just perfect. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Review 17:Remoteness and no Tv in room but large one in lounge

Review 18:Made to feel welcome and use of lounge and pool offered. Easy going owner cooked a lovely breakfast and gave information about local restaurants and roads, which are dreadfully narrow!

Review 19:Bad signage. Was looking for country house hotel in tiny country lane and expected a bold sign outside. It was hand done at the end of what appeared to be a farm driveway.

Review 20:Character filled home with warm welcome

Review 21:Having only one night there - We will return!

Review 22:The warm welcome, peaceful rural location, freedom to wander, large pleasant lounge to relax in, use of swimming pool and verhandah, the most comfortable bed and spacious super king room, with quality and dreamy bedding, and an amazing full English breakfast plus cereal, fruit, yoghurt, home made jams, with copious pots of tea also the wonderful meal we enjoyed beside the river at The Maltsers pub nearby.

Review 23:The room was poorly furnished and dusty. The bathroom though clean had mould around the bath and the floor was dirty.

Review 24:The relaxed atmosphere. The owner, mother & daughter were very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was excellent.

Review 25:Alfresco bathroom! I'm a bit shy for standing naked in the shower next to the window. Difficult to find as it does not stand out as a B&B.

Review 26:Warm wonderful eccentric hosts. The place is run by three generations of ladies and Basil the spaniel. It's full of weird and wonderful treasures and bright colours. Breakfast was delicious and a little disorganised but I loved that. It is served around a large family table and we had a marvellous time talking to the other guests. It's not like any other B&B I have ever stayed in but I would definitely go back.

Review 27:Dog seemed run of the house including your room. No locks on bedroom doors.

Review 28:Mother was lovely but running b & b was obviously too much. E.g. Cooking & serving breakfast in her dressing gown.

Review 29:The friendly warmth and helpfulness of the hostesses, originality of the surroundings. Riding in Jasmine, the magnificent Rolls Royce with attitude. We shall return!

Review 30:This beautiful, sprawling farmhouse is something really special. The hostesses were a delight and we were made to feel at home and welcome from the beginning. Friendly spaniel called Basil added even more character to an already lovely place. We can't rate this place highly enough and can't wait to go back again. Spectacular.

Review 31:genuine warm friendly welcome from everybody especially basil! nothing is too much trouble, i was made to feel welcome from the minute i arrived. the location and setting the peace and quiet, wonderful

Review 32:We loved the Quirky house it attractive and interesting in side with excellent accommodation, the owners Diana Jackie Elly not forgetting Basil and Simon were very welcoming and hospitable we had a lovely time, thank you Regards Alan /Pamela, Wiltshire

Review 33:Everything! Made me feel at home, and so helpful whatever you might ask for (directions, ideas, tea, dinner and so on..!). My baby daughter has had the time of her life crawling around and the baby bed was totally appreciated. We had a really lively, lovely, fantastic stay! The house is cosy, charming and in the middle of the countryside which is fantastic for sleeping and relaxing.

Review 34:We were made to feel extremely welcome by the owner. There's a wonderful mix of eclectic styles throughout the house. The bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms were immaculate. This is a real home away from home. Great for a romantic long weekend no matter your age group. Beautiful surrounding countryside for long lazy walks, or if you just want to relax in front of the fire, wonderful for that too. Would recommend highly. Thanks for a lovely stay

Review 35:Hard to find and getting there involves a lot of tiny Devon roads with high hedges. The outside of the house could do with a bit of love and care.

Review 36:we loved all the books and ornaments, the grounds with trampoline, the chocolate cake and the honesty bar! We also had a great bathroom and very comfortable bed. The house has loads of character and the owners are helpful and friendly.

Review 37:That we had to come home!

Review 38:We had an unforgettable weekend at Higher Tideford thanks to the fantastic location and the welcoming & lovely hosts Diana, Jacqui & Elly and, not forgetting Baz of course! You get for your money exactly what it says on the tin!!

Review 39:The owner was delightful, but not really organised to accept guests. It is a private house and she will provide a meal, but has to be notified in advance. It is not at all clear on booking.com.

Review 40:Comfortable and interesting country farmhouse, very welcoming and lovely breakfast.

Review 41:No hot water in the morning! Brrr!

Review 42:A wonderful welcome! Chatty but not at all intrusive.

Review 43:Great location, comfy room, eclectic art and decor. Friendly , especially Basil the dog.

Review 44:'Artistic' disorder in and out of the house Blown double glazing

Review 47:Very friendly staff and nice conversation. Also very peaceful location.

Review 48:Hospitality very good

Review 49:Lovely charming country house, with charismatic welcoming hosts.

Review 50:Gorgeous house. V relaxed and adaptable. Friendly people. Animal friendly. Quiet.
