Reviews for Brisbane House Hotel
Review 1:i feel there should have been a lift for people like my wife who have difficulty with stairs There was a clump of dark hair lying beside bath
Review 2:We were very pleased that we had an upgrade which was much appreciated. All staff were very pleasant .Overall the hotel was very welcoming, comfortable and relaxing. We only wish we had more time to stay,
Review 3:Nothing
Review 4:Great view and comfy room. Nice size but looking a bit tired. Dining room was good and breakfast fantastic. We had evening meal too and this was reasonably priced and excellent.
Review 5:The environment was extremely tired. The bathroom shower head was dirty resulting in a poor flow of water. There fan in the bathroom didn't work. There was damage to the soap tray and no toothbrush holder (presumably damaged and not replaced). One of the lamps at the side of the bed was damaged; it was temperamental to switch on, the glass casing on the base was missing and the shade frame was distorted. There were holes in the carpet in the bedroom. We have stayed at the Brisbane before some years ago and the standards were much higher than what we experienced this time. We won't be returning.
Review 6:It's convenience being in the centre of Largs
Review 7:WIFi doesn't work in rooms, room was tired although ok for one night, bare wires on light fittings, raditor valve missing so radiator stuck on full heat, no full length mirror and double bed was 2 single beds pushed together. It is a pity as the room was large but lets itself down.
Review 8:Staff were very helpful
Review 9:Very low cold water pressure in room. Meant that basin was hard work (esp cleaning teeth) and show had to be on very low to get the right temperature. Shower door let out water slightly - made floor wet. No lift!
Review 10:Good location - near to everything we needed. Nice view - excellent mint imperials and biscuits! TV had enough channels. Bed was comfortable; breakfast nice. Staff helpful
Review 11:Sticky stairs on route to room, no elevator (difficult wit bags and kids), continental breakfast was underwhelming not matching menu on table - no fresh Danishes/pastries (a holiday treat!), etc.
Review 12:Friendly and accommodating staff, beautiful entrance, reception and restaurant. Good size room, able to house double bed and pull out bed AND crib and still had room for bags/moving around. Lovely sea view and lots of parking. Lots of nice cooked options on breakfast menu.
Review 13:Terrible room, damaged fittings, stained matresses, lights not working, bedding that does not fit the beds, the hotel clearly makes its money from weddings , other guests are secondary !
Review 14:Location
Review 15:The cost for the room was well over priced £95. There were rips allover the bed,two chairs not suitable to sit on as they were really badly stained, curtains ripped, insects in both lights on the ceiling. Won't be back.
Review 16:Not much
Review 17:No lift... Had to struggle with luggage up a spiral staircase.
Review 18:The location was excellent & the views out the front were breathtaking. The food was excellent.
Review 19:I'm not sure if £200 for two rooms for one night was a bit steep, there were no extra facilities, I wouldn't normally expect to pay as much as this.
Review 20:The staff were really friendly and helpful, and moved us to rooms with sea views as soon as we had got to our original rooms (which were very small)
Review 21:I had to change rooms as I wanted to stay an extra day which was dealt with very well. However the difference in the standard of furnishings between my first room and the single occupancy room was dissappointing. Much more old fashioned and slightly dated and I also thought the carpet needed vaccuuming.
Review 22:The location was excellent. Close to the beach, walking distance to all the main shops and the ferry to Cumbrae in easy reach too. Food in the hotel was good and staff were very attentive.
Review 23:Creaky first-floor floors- ( there was no problem with other large parties/ conferences/weddings during our 6 day stay)
Review 24:Brisbane Hotel- Food and restaurant arrangements- Outside sheltered terrace-Bedroom size and comfort- Location- and very lucky with magnificent weather.
Review 25:The only things i would say were wrong was not all the lights worked in the room. Didnt make the breakfast as felt it was to early as not everyone is up for 9.
Review 26:The bed was really nice & bath tub was great. The room was very light and spacious. The room had a lovely view. Handy for all the nearby restaurants and pubs.
Review 27:Tacky old phone discoloured on bedside And pillows on bed were uncomfortable
Review 28:Great place and location great also great room number 105 decor lovely four poster bed and jacuzzi bath
Review 29:When checking in with my husband sister and granddaughter receptionist took a call in middle of it and abandoned us. She was talking to someone about how a guest had complained about her! I can understand that. Someone else came along and completed check in. Not very welcoming.. Did not feel wanted and no apology either.no smiles etc Shame no lift either.. Bathroom huge and looked modern but cheapnshower that had no force so it dribbled so very poor, such a shame. Be worth spending money on that aspect alone. Would return definitely.
Review 30:Location fab. Weather! Just luck there as we all know! Views from sea view room and fact windows open. Near everything. Restaurant very very good. Breakfast really good too. Would stay again and have recommended. Loved quirkiness if it. Old building with big rooms and creaky floorboards. Felt welcoming. Comfortable and clean. Deco not for everyone but modern enough. We had two rooms at front so can't comment on other ones. Big plus is parking out front of hotel. Much appreciated and an important factor. Better than at back or not on grounds.
Review 31:Post code and maps don't go to the front of the hotel.
Review 32:Great location and staff are extremely friendly. Rooms are ideal and have everything you need.
Review 33:Rooms a bit tired. Wifi in room poor. To be honest just being a bit picky.
Review 34:Fantastic breakfast. Great sleep. View from room. Staff were just amazing.
Review 35:found hairs in my dinner when i complained i asked if i could just have the garlic bread i had requested with my meal as i didn't feel like anything else after pulling two hairs out of my mouth from the meal before. the waiter then came back with the wrong garlic bread i had requested. i ate it and then he turned up with more bread after that saying he was sorry he had brought the wrong bread very unorganized practically blamed me for hairs in my tea even though i have black hair and they were blonde!! no apology was given. although didn't pay for meal still had to pay for drinks. room was clean but carpet and skirting were very tatty and ruined need replacing furniture all chipped and tatty too.
Review 36:room was big and spacious restaurant and downstairs very well decorated. great bathroom
Review 37:The general decor was shabby. The paintwork was in bad condition. There was a hole in the wall in my room and the wallpaper was torn. The tap on the washbasin was not fixed and wobbled when turning on the water. The carpet in reception looked very dirty. There is no lift. I had booked for only one night, and would not have liked to stay longer.
Review 38:Staff were helpful, specially regarding my food allergy. The hotel is in a great location and looks modern and impressive from the outside.
Review 39:Fire alarm went off on the morning. Nobody knew what to do. Obviously no fire drill training given to staff. Apparently steam from shower caused alarm to ring but nobody on duty knew how to turn off alarm. and nobody did a head count of guests who had evacuated the premises. Serious issue.
Review 40:Situation of hotel very good but noisey.
Review 41:Having no facilities to keep you entertained noise of the wedding function the hotel rooms badly need updated and our room was above the kitchen so it was like a sauna
Review 42:Expensive hotel with no facilities
Review 43:Stayed Thursday & Friday nights. Good variety on Friday breakfast menue. Chose "Full Monty" (fry up). Big mistake; felt like they had sourced the cheapest ingredients. Thought I would choose the salmon & scrambled eggs on Saturday. Couldn't believe it when I saw that there was NO choice on Saturday(apart from a small or large fry-up). Complained and was given the salmon & eggs. disgraceful way to treat customers (I paid £55/night B & B). What a poor impression holidaymakers from outwith Scotland must get. Oh yes, asked for a wake-up call at 07:45 on the Friday morning. No call made. However staff member knocked on my door at 07:45 Saturday morning! Room far too hot and aircon only spewing out HOT air! I won't be back.
Review 44:Leaving.
Review 45:The room was in need of complete make over, wall paper peeling off the walls in some places and just general dirty as the house keeping leaves a lot to be desired . The floor boards squeaked and furniture was from stone age. This hotel rooms need a complete make over and somebody needs to review the competencies of house keeping staff. Management need to test appliances beforehand as shower had no pressure and needs pump attached to ensure correct pressure and house keeping in communal areas needs addressing I get the impression nobody checks these areas
Review 46:The entrance and reception area are really smart and modern and that's where is stops. We booked superior room with sea view which was wonderful. The bathroom was modern, but no pressure in shower. Management need to test appliances
Review 47:No complaints , I could have stayed longer!
Review 48:Friendly staff and their hospitality ,made my stay a most enjoyable one. Yes,it is not a new hotel but that did not detract from my comfort there! Food is excellent too.
Review 49:The bed didn't have a headboard so my pillow was sliding behind the bed.
Review 50:Even though the pillow was sliding the bed was extremely comfortable and the staff were very cheerfull
Review 51:Unfortunately the bedrooms leave a lot to be desired. We had faulty appliances in the bathroom and bedroom. On top of that the extract for the kitchen was right outside our window, and this operated while the kitchen was operating. ie 7 in morning till 11 at night. We reported all this to the manager who didn,t seem to care.
Review 52:Bar area and restaurant at front of house has been upgraded and modernised to a nice standard.
Review 53:only little minus point was the breakfast
Review 54:Small and comfortable hotel with very good situation just across the sea. Fantastic big 'jumbo' bed:) very comfortable. Highly recomended this hotel.
Review 55:The room we paid £110 for when normally its only £55 and they were verydated with extremeley squeaky floors and the mattress on the double bednot even a king size was all caved in and thin, think they need toupgrade there rooms if they're going to be charging this price.
Review 56:The location and the function suite as I attended an all day wedding, breakfast was ok too.
Review 57:We received an upgrade due to a late cancellation. Gorgeous room with stunning views over to Cumbrae. Everyone was really friendly and helpful. Highly recommended. Plenty parking. Situated next to the wonderful Nardinis!
Review 58:Paid for sea view room could only see out of one window double glass unit was all misted up inside don't book room 202 told staff to tell manager no come back at all also had a bad crack right through tiles in bathroom floor
Review 59:Hotel is fine
Review 60:The breakfast menu was significantly reduced after the first morning. The en-suite facilities were good but not thought through, i.e. the towel rail and shower were as far apart as they could be placed.
Review 61:The food, location and views were good.
Review 62:Spotless bathroom and clean white bed matter more to me than decor. The restaurant served delicious food in a room with a sea view and the staff understand the importance of competent service.
Review 63:The radiator in bedroom 104 could not be regulated. My husband missed a clock radio and bottled water in a four star hotel.
Review 64:The small friendly feel of this hotel and the sea view. The shower was excellent.
Review 65:The curtains in our room were torn and the carpets were worn and threadbare. The pillows are grim!
Review 66:The approach is elegant and smart, the lobby welcoming - but then it all seems to go a bit wrong! The first floor is quite pleasant but the second is really ugly and scruffy.
Review 67:bedrooms are clean and comfortable but not deluxe status.due to torn wallpaper and poor quality furniture ie drawers that are off runners and broken
Review 68:excellent location with seaveiws and close to town centre and local amemities
Review 69:Don't take an elderly relative. No lifts, and no safety mats in the slippy showers even after you've been promised one.If you like your breakfast tea and coffee cold and stewed, and self-served from a conference dispenser, this is the place for you. Frustrated guests joked about Fawlty Towers, so poor was the service and quality of food. Lunch was even worse. My sister having a large fish bone lodged in her gum elicited no apology, just an explanation that this happens with fresh fish. The eventual offer of a refund for this one dish was not even honoured when the bill arrived, and had to be forced out of the management. The hotel caters for weddings by the sea. Perhaps an alcoholic haze makes one less discerning.
Review 70:Room required a little maintenance but just little things. What I paid for the room it was excellent value.
Review 71:Staff very helpful, friendly. excellent rating for my stay. New menu is great, food fresh and to a good to high standard.
Review 72:Terrible wifi, room décor dark and gloomy, noise from bathroom, loose bathroom fittings, lack of sockets in the room and sockets too low on wall crawling under furniture to plug in.
Review 73:Food, Staff, Location
Review 74:The room was absolutely not worth £100 a night, £50.at best. The photos used to advertise the hotel are of the bridal rooms. The standard rooms are a huge let down. The bathroom is extremely outdated and looked like it could have done with a deep clean.
Review 75:The staff were very helpful and friendly. The areas used for the wedding were lovely.
Review 76:Room 106, frosted glass window, springs sticking out of mattress, like a cell. Staff always on phone or helping in dining room. Breakfast a disaster, tea from a thermos flask, toaster not working, cooked breakfast arrived cold before cereal eaten.
Review 77:Going out
Review 78:Large room, luxurious shower room. The staff were very accommodating when I had to cut short my trip at the last minute and even though it wS almost 11am before I realised I wouldn't be staying that night I was not charged .
Review 79:The sound proofing between my room (109) and next door was quite poor.
Review 80:The staff were extremely accommodating, allowing me to check in early and get ready for a wedding, return back very late, and cook me a much needed breakfast late the following day.
Review 81:The room was awful too small, didn't like the window blanked out. when I opened the window on a hot day all I could hear was a fan making a very loud noise.
Review 82:The locality
Review 83:Our bed on first night had split slats which was very uncomfortable . Room needed ceiling painted (water stains )skirting needed painting .
Review 84:Staff also food was excellent . Loved sea views from hotel and room
Review 85:Even though room was clean and spacious , it was very cold all through the night, only one of the cast iron radiators was working. But an interrupted nights sleep due to this.
Review 86:The single rooms are tiny and very basic. The bathroom had a loose toilet seat, loose tap, missing screws on shower door handle and a missing plug in the sink and a light over the mirror that didn't work. On pointing these things out, they were fixed and I was offered a reduction for the second night, but the quality of the room was not good. The breakfast was very basic - my friend was served scrambled egg in a cereal bowl!! I asked for an omelette and was told that the chef couldn't do that. Not good for the price.
Review 87:The main areas of the hotel are nice, and I have previously stayed in the Glen Room with a group which was a very pleasant room
Review 88:Breakfast was poor. Single rooms were tiny and tired...old fashioned. Shower head spurted water inconsistently....wifi signal poor. Falsely advertised on Internet as the rooms did not resemble website photos
Review 89:Outside areas
Review 90:Free wi-fi was rubbish but this did not cause a major problem. Right on the sea front, the view from our room at the front was obstructed by the modern addition/extension of the top part of the entrance.
Review 91:The hotel is ideally placed minutes from the centre of town. The staff were all very helpful and pleasant.
Review 92:There was nothing I didn't like. It was my second stay and I will certainly be back.
Review 93:The staff are very accommodating and the location is just right. It is a very good stop-off and a great place for a longer stay.
Review 94:The staff were friendly and nothing was too much bother for them. We were there for a friends wedding and the place was relaxed and staff attentive. A very pleasant stay.
Review 95:broken floor tiles at entrance to bathroom bed was like sleeping on the floor (although they did put a duvet over the mattress when I complained) furniture was very dated wardrobe had paper under the front legs to stop it falling forward breakfast was nothing special, cheap sausage, fatty bacon. do your own toast. had to ask for coffee. room above was very noisy all through the night.
Review 96:staff were friendly reception, entrance etc were really good.
Review 97:No real proper bar area to sit with drink. All tables are dining rather than relaxing. Very thin partition walls in rooms. Noisy.
Review 98:Not too far from station. Restaurant ok. Menu uninspiring for prices, and starter was luke-warm. Single rooms small-room needs decoation to warm up ans en-suite ok. small but adequate for a couple of nights. Great breakfast
Review 99:The beds were very hard! Perhaps my North American tastes are differentthan European but it was fairly hard for a bed. The front desk, restaurant and cleaning staff were all great!
Review 100:They really went out of their way to make my stay as comfortableas possible!
Review 101:Room quite small, bathroom door couldn't be fully opened as it hit bed. Lighting not good for reading in bed. Although breakfast was adequate, fresh fruit would have been nice and even porridge as we were in Scotland!
Review 102:Location of hotel on seafront was good. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Nice large shower. Good wardrobe/cupboard space.
Review 103:Double bed that was actually 2 singles should really have had a decent mattress topper on - the split was obvious and essentially we had one couple sleeping in a single bed. A little bit tatty round the edges - hole in carpet and wall on stairway, few minor chips on furniture etc. Dirty tea Tray.
Review 104:Amazing views out to the sea. Friendly staff. Free WiFi 24 hour reception Good bar.
Review 105:The Hotel was beautiful unfortunately, this did not reach the top floor where we were staying. The furnishings were awful, curtains ripped, bedside lamp didn't work, dowdy decor and we were told it was an upgrade?????!!!!!!
Review 106:All of the Staff, without exception were lovely and really helpful. The meals in the Restaurant were good and value for money. The bed was really comfortable. The location good, with stunning views. Bathroom excellent. Car Park good.
Review 107:No elevator, lift. Told us they had Wifi. But did not work, very dark hallways and stairways, old very uncomfortable bed. Classed as a superior room but extremely poor, shower slippery under foot, dangerous. Overpriced.
Review 108:The location, and staff very accommodating but obviously unaware of what the rooms were really like to stay in.
Review 109:Should have booked for more than one night to appreciate the area and the hotel
Review 110:Very spacious room with great sea views. Ample parking directly in front. Very nice bar/restaurant with good quality food. Great location for strolling along promenade
Review 111:the noise from next door and the wedding that was on with people drinking outside till early hours
Review 112:our room was very nice with a great view and on a great day with the weather
Review 113:hotel has no lift, parents struggled up & down very dimly lit stairs. Lighting in bedroom poor & room too hot
Review 114:When booked price was for B & B. Parents 60th wedding anniversary. When they paid bill advised price included dinner - they were delighted at this. Staff very helpful & friendly. Room had excellent view of sea. All in very pleased
Review 115:The room was advertised as a superior double/Twin. The carpet was worn, the bed spread had stains at floor level, The floor creaked excessively, the curtains didn't close properly and were ripped, damp stains on the ceiling, main light yellowed and cracked.. Generally the room was tired and in need of a proper refurbishment. Not good. Breakfast was just ok, but only one girl serving.
Review 116:The view. Good shower. That's about it.
Review 117:Broken furniture, stained mattress with no protector, unbelievably noisy floorboards. Threadbare stained carpet.
Review 118:Perfect location, beautiful view, excellent friendly helpful staff.
Review 119:Elaborate shower lacked pressure to operate properly. White room entrance door had large black fingerprints near handle on the inside.
Review 120:Bright sea facing room. Reception and staff excellent.
Review 121:The hotel must have been a very nice hotel a little while ago but it seems to have been "let go" and is need of refurbishment. On opening my room door the first thing I noticed were big holes in the wall and ripped wallpaper where a trouser press used to be. Unfortunately my room was very hot and close to some noisy fans. Strangely the bathroom, although OK had no towel rail. At breakfast I was left standing at the door waiting to be served before I got fed-up of waiting and helped myself to toast and cereals. None of the tables had been cleared. The waiter eventually appeared and asked if I wanted a cooked meal, but by then I had run out of time.
Review 122:Friendly staff, good location and value. Easy to find and lots of parking space. The food and service for my evening meal (the same waiter as at breakfast) was very good.
Review 123:Staff all very young and though willing had to be asked, had stayed at this hotel several years ago and remember thinking it was top quality but now needs refurb if charging to prices. damp and faulty plumbing ect
Review 124:Good location for our needs
Review 125:Restaurant not too easy to find. Kitchen closed on evening we planned to dine. Power off in kitchen but no suggestion where to dine, poor customer service!
Review 126:Nice room and generally clean and friendly.
Review 127:Perhaps there could be more staff at breakfast time.
Review 128:We each had a single room, with aircon which was very welcome even in Scotland. Facilities and location were perfect and staff very good. Evening meal was good and reasonably priced too.
Review 129:Once upstairs the place became very dated, tired and shabby. The room we had was at the back, very small and the ensuite left a lot to be dedesired. The bath was old, taps discoloured, tiles, grout and sealant were black with mould. I refused to use the bath or shower which could not be regulated. We're so glad our stay was only one night!
Review 130:The staff were friendly and helpful. From the outside and entrance the hotel looks lovely.
Review 131:I thought the bed was rather too firm and it should be made clear that there isno lift although we were offered help with our luggage.a few more free view channels would be good.
Review 132:Everything, the views were excellent and every one was friendly our bedroom was well furnished and the bathroom was perfect.
Review 133:Main light fitting had no cover for wires, this was a safety risk as wires were also supporting the fitting itself. The cooked breakfast was greasy and not enjoyable at all.The hallways were very tatty with wallpaper lifting off in several places, skirting boards and carpet in bedroom were also tatty.
Review 134:Staff were friendly and liked the Hotel location and parking. The room was a good size and bathroom appeared fairly new and of a good standard.
Review 135:Huge designer sink, but it's too flat (dirt doesn't wash away) Somebody put the shower mixer on upside down. Breakfast would be nicer in the front bar area with daylight and views, rather than at the back under fluorescent light.
Review 136:Huge bathroom with new walk in shower. The view out across the sea Convenient car park outside the front door.
Review 137:Very over-priced -though most hotels were the same during the Commonwealth Games. Substandard room - very small, very uncomfortable bed, choice of being very hot & stuffy or cooler with constant noise of kitchen aircon day & night if window opened. Room upgraded to something more acceptable when we complained but without a word of apology for our inconvenience.. Very poor standard of service in the dining room at breakfast. People having to go to reception to ask for service in the absence of waiting staff. Nobody bothering to clear tables- staff just walking past them. Overall a very disappointing experience which did spoil our impression of lovely town of Largs.
Review 138:location attractive exterior easy parking attractive bar area The one member of staff who was friendly & helpful
Review 139:Room was very hot, outside the window was the kitchen extraction equipment so it was also noisy if the window was opened
Review 140:Bar food, staff attitude and service
Review 141:We booked a "Deluxe Double with Sea View", but the room westayed in was completely different to the photographs of this room typeon Booking.com. Take the photos of each room type with a pinch of salt(for example the Executive Double and the Small Single have the samebathroom photograph).
Review 142:The hotel is in a fantastic location, 5-10 minutes from the trainstation and right on the sea front. Largs has some really nicerestaurants (we liked "Lounge" on Main Street), and a fewminutes from the hotel you can take the ferry to the island ofCumbrae, which is a picturesque and quiet island to cycle around withthe whole family.
Review 143:We booked a standard double at £130 per night. Room was very small with no drawer space. Bedside cabinet door handle broken, windows would not stay open and room was very hot, bath plug not attached to its chain, basin cold tap top missing, no coat hangers initially. I am of average build, but anyone larger would have found it difficult to use the toilet comfortably as it is wedged in between the wall and the bath.
Review 144:Restaurant was very good, excellent value for money. Staff very friendly.
The Fine Print
Please note that the hotel does not have a lift and all rooms are located on the first and second floors.
